Very easy prof for Java level 2. All tests are open books and she gives ample time to complete assignments and programs. She curves, so take the class somewhat seriously and you'll definitely get an A. She usually showed up 5-10min late and always let class out early! TAKE HER!

Solid Prof, take her! This was my second time having her. Once again her tests and assignments were very clear, and easy. she also gave a fair amount of time to complete them. We did not use the book at all, so don't buy. Very easy, got an A and learned alot!

Good teacher, she means well unlike most CS Professors at MSU (Take note Benham!) Course work might be challenging but she does curve (or just gives out random decent grades, but overall pretty good!

Good professor. She's nice and you can understand her. Lectures right off the slides and lets you go early if you get through them all. A lot of material covered and wasn't sure what to study for tests. Tests and the project weren't hard but was a lot of self learning from the book. Takes attendance.

This teacher was best! She is very clear on the material, helps you a lot if you have no programming background. Her tests are easy, 1 midterm and 1 final. Roughly 5 to 6 Assignments. Very nice and friendly, also funny at times. Loved her class! She curves grades too! Easy A. Definitely recommend taking her for CS courses.

Dr. Varde is one of my favorite professors in the Computer Science department. Most assignments are group projects that you have to present. She has a clear grading criteria on every assignment so if you follow it, you will pass with flying colors. She is also really funny and makes class enjoyable!

Principles of Data Mining is a course like stat, mixed in with machine learning/algorithms. It sounds hard but trust me this is a very interesting class and is a trending research area/field. The material is pretty straightforward thanks to Varde's way of teaching, she encourages participation and is always willing to help if anyone is lost!

DataMining class was one of my favorites throughout the whole college career. I learned a lot! Dr Varde makes you present every project in front of the class but it's totally worth it because you learn even more while trying to explain to others. If you want to improve your skills, not be stressful about the class and enjoy it, definitely take her!

The highlights of Dr. Varde's courses are that she makes you do presentations in class for almost all the assignments. You might find that overwhelming initially, some of us get nervous, but she is very encouraging & really builds your confidence! Me & my team-mates learned a lot from that experience.

She made AI very interesting! Lots and lots of work all semester, but totally worth it. Gives many group projects, so pick your partners well. Take part in college activities & practice playing Towers of Hanoi. She gives extra credit for that kinda stuff, pretty good at that! Learned a lot from this course, Game theory was my favorite!

I highly recommend this class. Dr. Varde gives you group projects involving Data Mining tools, which also involve team presentations. My experience in this class led me to publish a conference paper. Overall, I had a very positive experience with this.

I took CS595 in the summer of 2018. This class was instrumental in getting me started in the area of AI. You can get a decent grade with moderate effort, but you also have a chance to work on amazing projects if you are serious about getting into AI. Dr Varde cares highly about her students.

Dr. Varde is one the best professors at Montclair. I took her AI course & we learned so much! My favorite part was Game Theory. I recommend that course to many of my friends, but sign up soon as her classes fill fast!

She is very easy; most assignments are presentations given by groups of students in class. This was a hybrid course for me so we had class once a week. Some weeks she cancelled class. Not much material was covered. Midterm and final exam is online and open book, lockdown browser mandatory. You'd have to try to fail this course.

She makes Data Mining seem fun & easy! I checked out her home page & she does lots of good research stuff. Pretty cool, I would work with her if I did my MS here. I liked the class projects & it's good that she makes you use a nice tool called WEKA to analyze the data. Some Java coding too....

She is my favorite prof! You gotta take database systems with her. She talks to you like she is your friend. And she really knows her stuff well. Replies to emails even at midnight.

She is the best professor in the entire Computer Science department of MSU. I'm so lucky to have taken her class. She really cares about her student's academic as well as professional growth. Dr. Varde uses real-time examples happening in today's world of technology to tie it back to the course being taught in database systems.

I am so inspired by Dr. Varde! She publishes in cool places and makes us feel motivated. Her final course project was my favorite, it made me work on my research stuff and implement that in her machine learning classes. She'll give you plenty of HW all sem, so be prepared, she'll grade it well & really likes it when you present your stuff!

Dr. Varde recorded videos for us in the online data mining classes & they were so helpful! She also did some Zoom meetings and encouraged us to present our work, and was there to answer our questions. Her Canvas announcements were very detailed & helpful. Learned so much about data mining in her course!

Dr. Varde is a great professor and was very understanding to our situation in a pandemic/online course. Discrete Math was super hard and she knows it's a hard course. She offered valuable feedback, answered emails quickly and was very available to help. She offers extra credit. You do have to put in the work, but it's more than doable.

I took Dr. Varde's machine learning course in Spring of 2020 and it was one of the best courses I have taken thus far. My background is in Earth Science, so I was a little hesitant to take the course, but Dr. Varde was always available for office hours and was more than willing to help with topics outside of my expertise. This prof is excellent! We started the semester with lots of knowledge on machine learning. She has a a good interactive lecturing style & makes students do presentations. Even after we went online, she gave us her best with her video lectures & Zoom meetings. Gave us lots of assignments, made us present by Zoom. Learned a lot from her course!

I took Data Mining with Dr. Varde in Summer 2020. Due to COVID, the class was predominantly held online. Dr. Varde uploaded great presentation videos that made learning and studying for the exams extremely helpful. Dr. Varde is always available to answer questions via email or schedule a time Zoom with you! Highly recommend and learned a lot!

I took the online CSIT504 class. Dr. Aparna is a great lecturer. She is so considerate. She was lenient with us by extending the test dates, gave explanatory comments and extra marks. I started the class with no clue as to what Discrete Mathematics was all about. I ended the class with a good grade all thanks to the efforts of Dr. Aparna.

Due to COVID, this course was held online in the summer. Dr. Varde uploaded lecture presentations that provided all the material with clear explanations. Projects assigned really helped learning the material and professor was always responsive through emails if any help or clarifications were needed.

Dr. Varde's machine learning class was the class I learned the most in. She's my favorite professor as MSU! She teaches well, cares about students and is always ready to help. This class transitioned to online because of COVID but was still great. Lecture presentations were posted and group projects were presented on zoom.

Took her class as an entirely-online asynchronous summer course. She was so responsive to emails, willing to provide extra help, and made sure we understood the material. The course format makes connecting with professors difficult, but she really went the extra mile to make sure everyone learned. Take her class!

I took Intro to AI as an elective for my Computational Linguistics program & I'm so glad I did. Dr. Varde explains complicated subjects with the ease that only comes from being incredibly knowledgable and passionate about the field. She pushes for group work which allowed us to not only learn from her but from our classmates too. Great class!

I took data mining with Dr. Varde and learned a lot. She was extremely understanding of COVID-19 circumstances and was willing to accommodate my needs. Although her class was challenging, I learned translatable skills for my data analyst position. I suggest attending the optional meetings. I would recommend anyone take any of her classes.

Taking AI with Dr. Varde was a great experience. Classes were recorded so we could go back and watch as we needed and she was available outside of class whenever needed. I took professor Varde for both data mining and AI. Given the unfortunate circumstances of the pandemic, both classes were taken online. However, I learned more in these two classes than I have in many other courses I've taken at Montclair. She is undoubtedly one of the most caring professors I've ever had, and shows genuine interest in your work.

Dr. Varde's Machine Learning class was a top-notch overview of the ML field. She emphasized team projects where you could really get your hands dirty in the subject. (There were also two exams covering academic topics.) This was an online course, due to COVID, and she handled Zoom very well. Interested in ML? I highly recommend her course!

Dr. Vardes Artificial Intelligence class was a clear, thoughtful intro to AI. She provided tons of informational resources on the subject and put a lot of effort into her async lectures (remote due to COVID). There were a couple of exams, but the team projects/presentations were the heart of the course, validating my AI career goal. Two thumbs up!

I found the course difficult because I have math challenges, but Dr. Varde is patient, knowledgeable, organized, and gives accommodations to students who need them. As a PhD student from the Environmental Science, computer science is not my strongest skill, however, this course was excellent as an introduction in AI, Machine Learning and game theory that helps me with my research. The professor was very kind and allowed us to explore our own ideas with homework assignments. One of my favourite courses by far!

I am a 2nd-year Ph.D. student in Env. Science & Mgt. & this AI course was a refreshing one. Dr. Varde connects to all the students from different departments & I never felt that my background was any hindrance to this course. It was easy to communicate with her, the classes are interactive, assignments were in groups, & easy to score well.

Professor Varde explains the course material thoroughly and effectively. She also responds very quickly to emails, so she's likely to answer any questions within the same day. It's very clear that she wants her students to succeed, as she helped prepare me to present work I did as part of her class at a Sigma Xi student symposium.

I took an AI class with her. Class was project-based + midterm + final exam. We had 4 projects and a final project. She is really flexible + provides great ideas for different project topics to work on + really flexible on the programming language you could use. 5/5 stars for her, amazing professor. Chapeau, as Germans say!

The course is not easy, however, the group project and kind professor help a lot. It is a face-to-face class. When the students can not join the class due to the current circumstance, the professor also provides enough help to let them do the presentation.

What is unique about my professor, Dr. Aparna Varde, is that she makes the most complicated topic seem so easy for us. She smilingly takes questions and never tires which inspires confidence in the students for being more interactive. Indeed I would always remember her for dispelling my fear of learning algorithm which is now my favorite pastime. S

One of the most amazing prof at MSU; organized, prepared, helpful, and able to break things down to an understandable level. She is, without a doubt, strict, but that is what makes her awesome and I had an opportunity to work with her on a conference paper, guided us through the process and it was the first time for us and it helped us a lot.

Professor Varde was amazing in both lectures and outside of class. I have came to her multiple times throughout the semester and she always took what I have to say with understanding. She is a very caring and smart professor. if I ever get a chance to take her again will definitely do so with no hesitation.

As a Student of Computational Linguistics, AI is a course that I need to take to graduate, a difficult course for anyone without a comp sci background but Dr. Aparna simplifies the complexity of the concepts for comprehension. I strongly recommend her class. As an international student, I don't feel like an outcast in her integrated class

This was a great class. The concepts she covered were diffcult but she broke the concepts down well and left videos up so you could review the lectures in your own time. I also enjoyed the application of the concepts she did it was fun to watch the algorithims work
