You do a lab every week during the 3 hour period that feels like busy work, he gives short lectures and is very reserved in helping the students while being a very picky grader (taking quarters and halves off 10 point assignments over the smallest things). He doesn't want it to be an easy A but if this is a GE for you I recommend another teacher
I took biology in high school and received an A and there was no extra credit. Then I took it here and even with extra credit, I didnt do as well as I anticipated.
Apollo is very nit picky with his grading. He does not lecture us well, but expects us to know all the material to the T on his exams. Apollo is not helpful and not approachable. In the lab he seems like he hates to be there even more than us. He is not excited or eager about the subject so I didn't understand how we were expected to be.
DON'T EVER TAKE ANY CLASSES WITH THIS PROFESSOR! He is vague when explaining things out to us, and when we would ask him a question he would just answer back with a question causing us to doubt ourselves more about what we are supposed to learn. I and many others would agree that his teaching style is very boring and unmotivated.
This guy is unreasonable. If you try to email him, he wont get back to you ever. Hes really nit picky about things in lab even if there was no time to finish it, hell deduct points just because. He also doesnt put in grades fast enough so beware of that if you need to calculate everything for an A.
He is a good teacher but it is a flipped classroom so you have to be willing to put in time and effort outside of lecture. I only have him for lecture and not lab so it might be different. Class is once a week and there are 2 easy homework assignments per week. He is animated when he talks and his lectures are recorded.
He is literally the worst lab TA ever and does not help out when you need it. Does not respond to emails. If you're looking to pass do not take him. He is the most ridiculous TA ever.
very tough class, mandatory lectures. I studied super hard for tests and never really did that well.
This teacher was the worst. He cut our exam times in half after the first exam in the middle of the semester but kept the number of questions the same and took away the book too. He does not respond to student feedback and does not care that his actions hurt a lot of his students that were suffering in the COVID scare. Do not take this teacher.
DO NOT take this class if you want to actually learn biology or get an easy A. This class will have you spending an entire semester wondering why teachers can be so terrible and why you are in college in the first place. do yourself a favor and take another teacher.
This professor is completely unreasonable. This professor's ethics are morally questionable at best.
DO NOT TAKE FOR BIOL100 LAB! He teaches it so bad that you have to basically rely on yourself & peers to understand the lessons. 5 exams, multiple assignments, lab reports AND you have to create your OWN EXPERIMENT outside of class then present it. Also, you have to go to Living Coast Disc. Center to answer a thick packet of questions. Good luck!!!
He gives too many assignments for an online class. He tells you to not stress out and that his class is easy. But it's not. He says that if you email him he will respond right away. He has only respond to one of my many emails. Do everything you can to not have him as your professor. He has lost my respect and my colleagues respect as well.
For a class taken during COVID, it was good. A typical week in the class consisted of textbook readings, homework based on the textbook, and 2-3 pre-recorded lectures with a couple questions in the video. Then the tests are about every 3 weeks and require lockdown browser. He's very good and connects the lessons to current times.
For an online class, there was no communication at all. He doesn't respond to emails and when he does it's defensive and not helpful. He posts stuff late and not all at the same time. Everything is through mastering biology or canvas quizzes so the work isn't hard but if you need help or have questions he won't help.
All his lectures are recorded and fairly short but essential to watch. His tests are like 60% from the lectures. He presented material in an interesting way and I learned a lot of good life skills/information. Not an easy A. The homework is not too long and helps cushion your grade from tests, which are difficult. Overall a solid choice.
ok so i took apollo's class during the pandemic and honestly the lab was a little draining. waking up at 8 am was not the business.. there are better ta's to take not because of the time but his attitude was just bleh. lots of prelabeling and takes 1000000 hours. be prepared. i mean this is anatomy and all i guess
This class was my hardest class during fall 2020. You need to do the reading and study for the tests or you will not pass. His lectures are detailed as well.
I do not want to be harsh, however, this is a teacher whose teaching methods need to be reviewed by SDSU. Dr. Kacsinta included questions on the tests that we never learned from his lectures, the textbook, and assignments. If we are supposed to gain knowledge sources, then it should clearly be stated in the syllabus. He never responds to emails.
This class is really tough. It's not impossible to get an A, but you really have to work to get it. Poor communication and doesn't grade things properly. Honestly, if you can choose another professor, then choose another one. Tons of reading each week with even more work. I don't recommend.
He is good at sending/replying to emails. Other than that, not much of a personality. This class has weekly homework assignments and 4 exams. The final is NOT cumulative. Going to class is optional. Very strict with deadlines/no late credit. I found this class to be the most time-consuming with homework.
He chose to make this class asynchronous so I honestly know nothing about his personality. Basically all of the work came from quizlet. He takes a while to grade work that isn't multiple choice.
This class was so hard. I felt like when taking tests, there was a ton of info that I missed. Wouldn't recommend.
If I could give a zero I would. Tons of HW/reading, no study guide, test EVERY Friday w lockdown/camera (summer session), tests are poorly worded w material not covered. Most difficult 100 class youll ever take. I get straight As & got my first D on exam one. Half the class dropped the first day. Do yourself a favor & take literally anyone else.
He is awful. Ive emailed him three times so far this semester (says that is the best way to contact to get a 24 hour response) and he has never responded to any of them. Also awful at grading correctly and grading before module exams. DO ANYTHING YOU CAN TO NOT HAVE HIM.
We use Learning Catalytics and he uses this as participation/ attendance. He grades these based on if you got the right answers. He never answers emails. He does not care if your wifi doesn't work and if it doesn't then sucks to suck.
HE SUCKS! IM BREAKING DOWN THE NIGHT BEFORE MY TESTS! HE DOES NOT TEACH PROPERLY! THE ONLY PERSON WHO WAS HELPFUL WAS THE TA. I AM PASSING ONLY AND ONLY BECAUSE OF HIM
Probably the most work I've ever done for a GE. There is only one lecture a week which hardly covers enough material, so most of the learning is done through the textbook. Also, the exams were tough, don't expect to do good on them if you just attend the lectures and do homework.
Class is passable but its difficult b/c the professor doesnt offer help and thats why his ratings are low. Exams are difficult but do-able. I got an A in this class and suck at science so my tip would be to study EVERYTHING the textbook goes over. I believe I only did so well b/c of this and the TA who gave us many resources. Shoutout Sebastian.
On the first day of this class I cried. Basically all you need to know.
Professor is a joke. Gives more homework than any other class I have taken.
AVOID IT! The absolute unfair professor I've ever had. Doesn't allow late work or redo assignments, doesn't provide study guides, you only have one chance to do video quizzes, and on exams you have to use a lockdown browser w/ webcam and you only get one chance to answer the question (once you click your answer that's it)
This guy never answers emails and does not grade lecture questions. The tests can be ridiculously difficult and lengthy with no study guide. My class only received a TA to help with studying for the tests two months after the semester began. Do anything to not be in his class
His exams were way too difficult. I always managed to get Cs/Ds on tests no matter what. He was switched half-semester bc of complaints. After switching, I got a 98% on my first exam. Tips: remember questions from assignments that seem irrelevant, listen to lectures, and use Quizlet to study. I do not recommend this prof find another class!
the worst professor ive ever had. no room for error, late work, or redos. exams are online with lockdown broswer and webcam. AVOID AT ALL COST!
Honestly this class wasn't hard. It's only hard if you don't read the textbook or dedicate time to studying before the exam (which is something you need to do for any other class). I feel like so many people complained about him because they want everything handed to them. I even remember someone crying about not having a study guide. So pathetic!
Do not take this Professor. I registered for Bio100 online but dropped not even a week in. 6 week summer session, five exams, all proctored with lockdown browser and webcam. Homework due every week, no late work period. Not a nice guy, very mean and condescending. Does not care to see students succeed. Take any other professor for this course!!!!!!
The worst professor you can ever take. Expects us to read 20 chapters a week, memorize all of them and then take a test every Friday without any notes or anything. Mind you this is a 100-level 6-week summer class. Does not help you at all.
Took this class during the summer, which made it even more hard because it was fast paced but it wasn't too bad. As long as you do the homework assignments you should pass the class because they count for a big portion of your grade. The tests are unnecessarily hard, which is why everyone doesn't like this professor.
Avoid Professor at all cost! He is a horrible communicator and has unclear grading criteria, dropped my grade down when translating from canvas to credit.
what ever you do, don't get this professor. He's bad and the exams are hard for no reason.
Took 212 in summer and did rly well by studying slides and going to Friday review. Prepare to study for hours, lectures/lab were really fun but he does assign alot of prelabeling to make sure we get thru material fast in lab. He's kinda aloof at the beginning but is super chill about questions and genuinely wants to help, all you have to do is ask
I haven't even finished the class, but this is the worst class ever. Prof never checks or responds to emails, doesn't accommodate, literally gives the worst exam questions (with webcam), and is the worst at giving lectures. If you're taking his class, REPORT HIM to the department of science. I hope they replace him. Worst biology teacher ever. RUN.
Whatever you do, do not take his class. You will be fighting every day to keep your grade up and he will never email you back or assist you in any way. He is also quite condescending
Pretty simple & easy class. There is a total of 5 exams at the end of every module. Exams are on a lockdown browser. The final is not cummulative. You watch lecture videos weekly & do MasteringBiology homework which are mostly MC. Barely put any effort in the class. Not bad for a second choice since I didn't get Ekdale. Courseload < 2 hours a week.
This professor isn't professional whatsoever. He never responds to emails and isn't accomodating. I failed the first 2 exams, but eventually started passing the other exams (I got 96% on the final). The subject is great, but don't get too confident because the professor gives out trick questions. I'd advice you taking a different professor.
Do not take this teacher. he is very much the worst teacher on this campus and purposely fails his students. he also falsely accuses you of cheating. you are better off taking a class in person rather than taking this professor because hell just screw you over at the end
This class is pretty difficult online. Kacsinta doesn't send out announcements for tests or homework so make sure to check the syllabus because he doesn't allow makeup homework. His lectures are pretty straightforward and so is the homework, but the tests are pretty impossible. Be ready for questions that don't have to do with the material.
i don't know where to start. he does not teach. he gives out questions that aren't even factual or correct, trying to tell me that 70% of the body isn't made out of water but calcium? yep, ill never forget how that was a question, and no, calcium is not the most abundant compound in the body, like isnt this a known fact? dont take, unhelpful
nothing to say other than get this man fired and outta sdsu. im not paying thousands a dollars a year to take a bio class where the teacher never makes an appearance a single time, and is impossible to get in contact with
This guy is easily one of the worst professors here at state. His exams are extremely long and difficult with a lame excuse for a study guide. Your best bet is to do really good on the HW assignments and pray you get above a 60 on each exam. One thing he did succeed at in this class was making me proud that I did not become a biology major.
Easily the hardest I've ever worked in a class. The only good thing I will admit is that I was forced to actually digest the material cause of the ridiculous studying required to score OK on the tests. And this is supposed to be an intro class to the non-majors which is funny, it for sure scares away the non-majors from ever taking biology again.
This class was honestly a lot of work and I wouldn't recommend but is doable. The tests are very challenging if you didn't stop to take note of a very specific sentence of the readings or homework. I 100% recommend to READ THE TEXTBOOK and take notes because the lectures were vague and pretty boring and unhelpful.
Doesn't offer extra credit opportunities, exams are worth a lot of points and you can't miss a single assignment without it affecting your grade. Deadlines on Thursdays. I wouldnt take him again, he tests on everything (lectures, readings, videos) and on specific things we didn't focus on or that may seem random. Don't take him.
Does not help students understand materials at all. Exams are tough and no makeups or extra credit opportunities. Grading is based on a weird scale and doesn't match up to pearson scores. Would not advise taking his class.
He is not helpful at all. Homework is easy but tests are not because you are on responds browser and you are being recorded. They are difficult and everyone does bad and it drops your grade so much.
This is the worst professor that I have ever had in my entire career.STAY FAR AWAY! If all of the other class options are taken and he is the only one left, DO NOT TAKE.Better off taking over summer school. Also, very ironic how he has all these tools in place to keep you from cheating on exams, yet he gets all his material off of quizlet. Horrible!
Nothing late is accepted due to being an online class, tests are long, timed, and difficult. Lockdown browser is required. One of the worst structured classes.
I don't know how a professor could care less. Still, in 2024, uses lecture videos from covid with audio errors in them. The homework is stupid, but not his doing. For some reason, his completely online class makes the weeks work open Monday, and due Thursday. I don't get why it isn't just due Sunday. The homework auto grades, so he does nothing.
sdsu needs to hire some more bio profs, all of them are terrible. i had to retake this class because i was not allowed a makeup exam for an emergency, so i took this over the summer. all the lectures are old and extremely long. the homework is so picky, and he will not answer your emails. do not take this class if you can
The absolute worst professor I have ever had. I did well on every assignment other than the exams and I don't think I'm going to pass. The textbook is boring and so are his lectures. No late work on anything, and some weeks he has over 17 assignments due. Horrible professor, do NOT TAKE.
Took this online class in the summer and all of his assignments pisses me off! Communication was horrible and studders half of his prerecorded lectures.
Horrifying. accused me of cheat
I really really dislike this class. His homework is so picky I will choose the correct answer but it's just not the correct answer that HE wants. Plus there are so many readings and assignments and if you forget one you can't make it up lol!!!!! like what even is that? this class, it's assignments, and its exams are so annoying please don't take it
I wish I could personally talk to him and just beg him to change career. I get so frustrated thinking about how much it costs to attend this school only to have a terrible professor like him teach this subject.
objective questions given during lectures using learning catalytics. sucks at explaining. Constantly repeats information. Obscure topics on test (ex. From video number "blank" what was the main topic. for context we would have about 5-8 videos per homework assignment and weekly homework assignments).
Absolutely insane that SDSU keeps this guy as a professor. Ridiculous amounts of work, no way to make anything up, ultra-specific HW answers that if you get wrong you can't redo, and doesn't even respond to Emails. How can you call yourself a teacher when your exams average failing scores? Learn from my mistake and NEVER take this guy's class.
I literally wish I could rate him a 0. literally the worst professor I have ever had, he never answers my emails, and is just the worst communicator ever. The HW and tests are unnecessarily hard, and he is actually no help when it comes to preparing for exams. Do not take him how is he still employed here.
Worst professor I have ever had. Do not take this class. Does not work around athletics.
He's a horrible teacher who never explains anything and doesn't reply to emails. He assigns a lot of reading and homework questions that are honestly just tedious time-consuming, and provide no help for the exams. His exam questions are incredibly niche and impossible to study for. Genuinely wish I dropped out of this class while I still could.
Assigned so so much reading and homework. Put the lectures in 2x speed or else you are wasting your time. Exams had lockdown browser but were multiple choice.
he puts stuff on the tests that he doesn't cover and the TA doesn't know whats on the tests. dont take this class
Lots of work and studying is needed to pass this class. No one gets 100% on the tests and they aren't curved. It's possible to get an A if you do all the readings and are a good guesser as the test questions are very specific. Homework is a lot and based on accuracy. Don't take this class if you want a good grade.
He is a horrible professor ALL AROUND. Lectures are useless and he doesn't even spend enough time on each slide to take any notes. Releases homework at ridiculous time. Tests are wildly hard.
This professor claims that his exams will be on the material we have previously learned in class yet decides to go against his own word and quiz us on material that has absolutely no correlation whatsoever with what we've learned in class. Simply put this way if you would like to hold on to your sanity, I suggest that you not take his class.
This teacher is really hard on tests and asks things that are related to the topic but also so specific. You have to really
Do not take if possible. Lecture videos are all years old and contain outdated information. He will not respond to your emails and he couldn't care less about this class. At least 3 hours of homework a week and the tests are difficult with lots of questions about things that were not covered in his lectures or the readings.
I eventually lost motivation to learn because the weekly workload felt overwhelming and never seemed to pay off during tests. The material didn't stick, and I couldn't shake the feeling that the whole class was just an exercise in busywork.
He's the WORST biology professor! His lectures are recorded during COVID, the information he talks about in his lectures aren't correct and on top of that he will not respond to your emails. Theres no point in studying he barely covers anything he told you to go over for the exam. If you can take this class with a different professor do that!!
Worst BIO teacher on campus, doesn't relate anything in his lectures to the actual exams. Theres no point in even studying at that point. Doesn't respond to any emails. His lectures are years old and don't have any updated information. Not a good teacher if you want to enjoy biology.
i'm just glad i made it of there alive. if you ever get the chance to look into his soulless eyes, you'd see the empty evilness behind them. please for the good of humanity please change professions and stay far from here. your only hope is to hide and pray he does not find you. if you genuinely value happiness and your GPA, don't take this class.
Don't get this professor. Failed me because I looked off of the screen too long on a test. He doesn't look back and review the lectures, so if you don't do well, there is nothing you can do. He rarely responds to emails, and when he does, he is snarky and unwilling to help. The respond browser is out to get you.
Unless your the next coming of Charles Darwin, good luck getting an A in this class. Half the stuff on the tests are things you'd never seen before, or silly "gotcha" questions. I didn't have any interactions with him some i'm not sure how he is as a person, but the class is pretty awful. You can squeeze by with a B- with some luck on your side
His class is difficult. His tests weigh a lot on the grade and each one is 125%.The hw is long and tedious. He doesn't cancel class in advance and sometimes posts the reading last minute. The questions on the test sometimes are something we didn't go over. He speeds through lectures and doesn't give enough time for students to copy the notes down.
Horrible. Didn't respond to an email that I desperately needed a response to as it was about the online exam. Lectures suck and he stutters through them and the tests contain random questions that were barely related to the lectures or homework. DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS.
tests are a little difficult and pretty much take up the whole grade. Tests have spelling, grammar and other errors in them. The slideshows during lectures are the same as years before probably covid, and have errors. Half the time in class activities have errors and are confusing. not great
The test questions were so absurd I would actually laugh out loud because no matter how much you read the book/took notes in class NONE of it was on the exams. clearly does not care about his students learning. I don't know how he still has his job. Its a waste of time and money unless you absolutely love bio and already know lots about it.
did not learn a single thing and just took what i learned from high school into this class. goes through the slides so fast and lectures are on really general information. test questions are not at all similar to the learning objectives and are SO hard to study for no matter if you look at lectures or textbook.
NEVER take him. So much reading and homework due every week. His lectures are outdated, and he kept stuttering, making it harder to understand. You have to keep your camera on during exams. Exams were super difficult, even after studying for weeks. STAY AWAY from this professor because he can not teach nor care about students.
Listen to the lectures and take notes and you'll pass. Readings recommended but not necessary. I honestly don't understand how everyone says the tests are hard. I never studied for more than one day and the exams were fine. If you have to take him because other professors are unavailable, just know you'll pass if you give like 7/10 effort.
never ever responds to emails. many many videos that are years old. the things he talks about in the videos are not going to be on the test, the test questions are absurdly irrelevant and difficult to deduce an answer. he posted the videos we were supposed to watch, the activity, and the homework literally a day before the test.
Worst teacher. Learning catalytic's are actually graded and not just participation even tho the q's are about stuff we haven't gone over yet. Test questions are horrible and random. Very hard to study for because there isn't accurate study guidelines. Doesn't help at all. Graded on just exams so bad test=screwed. Very hard to being your grade up.
The workload wasn't bad but. He NEVER ever responds to his emails. One of my homework assignments transferred into canvas wrong after I scored a 100% and showed up as a 0. I emailed him FIVE SEPARATE TIMES over the span of two months because he wasn't responding. To this day, I never got a response and the grade was never fixed. Uninvolved teacher.
tests have nothing to do with text book
Exams were really strict with lockdown browser and being recorded. They were also difficult and often had things not covered in lectures. Check the syllabus for exam dates because he doesn't put them on canvas until the night before. As long as you do the homework you should be fine to recieve an average grade even if you do bad on exams.
Honestly, his ratings shouldn't be this low. Yeah, there's busy work and not all of it shows up on the test, but it took me 2-4 hrs/week. The class was fully online but still time consuming. Exams were hit or miss. I studied Quizlets I found + HW and got a B. Also, he replied to my email as opposed to other peoples experiences here lmao.
This class was ok, i checked his rate my professor late when i was alr enrolled and noticed he had many complaints. Since this course was summer it was heavy and lots of hw but doable just manage your time wisely. Dont expect him to answer your emails back lol.
I don't even think this guy knows hes supposed to be teaching this class. He won't respond to a single email, so don't even try; I've emailed him nine times and he has yet to respond to a single email. His "lectures" are reading from a slide and his tests don't cover anything. The cast of dumb and dumber could do his job. Needs to get fired!
Sometimes, there is only one thing you can do: run, run as fast and as far as you can and never, ever look back. That is the only advice I can give for this teacher. Don't fall for the pile of gold, it is a trick.
