pretty easy going teacher, great sense of humor
She's a very nice teacher. She goes through the book by doing powerpoints so you take a lot of notes but you learn a lot. Helped me become comfortable speaking in front of class.
She was a great teacher. She is very straight up with you and tells it like it is. Ask for help and she will give it to you.
I LOVED HER!!!! She made class fun and interesting. She made you feel at ease with speaking in front of the class, and made your fears seem to go away. I stutter on and off, and especially in front of a group, but I still looked forward to class every week! I was completely at ease. She is wonderful!! TAKE HER CLASS!!! YOU'LL LOVE IT!!
Very good class. I took it this summer and it went by fast. She is very clear on what she wants and is extremly fun and has a great sense of humor. If you need to take a communications class and kind of fear it, take her!
When it comes to experience for a teaching job, Mrs. Hebert has it down. Her previous experience in acting makes her a definite choice to listen to for better speeches.
Not bad.. 4 speeches. The longest one being 8 minutes. Talks a lot about Star Trek. Fun teacher.
She understands speaking infront of a class room is not easy, and she makes you feel comfortable when you have to present.
She's really easy going. I have bad anxiety when it comes to talking in front of crowds and she understands this. She is an easy A. She does laugh at her own jokes a lot. But for an A on your transcripts I'd recommend her.
Hard not to like prof A-Bear (that is how her last name is pronounced). Her COM-102 class is totally on the boring side, but she manages well. Heavy use of textbook and slides, exam review VERY useful.
Highly recommend April! Most people dread public speaking but the majority of the class was put at ease with her techniques and lovely personality. The key to giving top-notch speeches... practice in front of a mirror many many times! Also do not procrastinate drafting and editing your speeches!
OMG!!! words can even explain how cool she is, just TAKE HER CLASS you will love it. :D
April is completely awesome and a great teacher. She helped me over come my stage fright. 15 chapter exams and 4 speeches total. Do the work, listen in class and you are guaranteed to get an A in this course !
Shes a very helpful and nice teacher. No final theres only 15 exams which you can use the book. She makes you feel very comfortable when your up there giving your speech. Highly recommend her.
She is an awesome teacher. I am grateful to take her class. I would recommend her class to anyone that needs to take communications. She does make it fun and it is so worth taking the class. She truly is an awesome teacher.
Awesome teacher! You do three 5-9 min speeches throughout the semester. She explains each one very clearly. I hate public speaking but this class was actually pretty cool and fun. TAKE HER CLASS! She's funny and great!
I just recently took her class and loved it. Too bad I had to drop for personal reasons. This teach is very easy. You would be an Idiot not to get an A or B out of the course. I am retaking her.
great fun and nice professor. she helps you with anything and is honest about any topic. she gives you more than enough information to do a proper speech and take the test. you did not have to read the book because she went over it so well.
Professor is an "actor" and does well when she's in front of the class, she speaks well to keep it interesting and has tons of knowledge! I would recommend taking her however, when reaching out for help, she doesn't have alot of patience, she expects you to pick up what she puts down..so beware of the brush off!
She made public speaking not so bad for me. Class was direct and her textbook is very helpful. Chapter quizzes and four short speeches.
make sure you show up. and do the easy online homework... she has a ton of energy and always answers any questions with enough info to cover the book. i suggest it highly
one of my favorite professors, even though I despise public speaking!
I really enjoyed her carefree attitude, she doesnt try to be anything but what she is. she's also very understanding about stage-fright, but she will force you to do what needs to be done. this is exactly what some of us needed. what you learn in that class will help you more than you know, so dont drop it! it's definitely worth it.
She was pretty awesome. Group Communication always doesn't sound too exciting, but the assignments were pretty simple. She is laid back and will help with anything!
She is a great teacher! She is extremely helpful and encourages your thoughts. I would strongly recommend taking her class. She does grade on attendance, so show up!
Hate public speaking, but teacher creates a comfortable environment.
I hate public speaking and never thought I would get the required class done. This teacher made it accomplishable! I am so happy I took her class! She was always very helpful and very encouraging. Take her if you have a public speaking fear!
If you do what is asked it will be an easy class for you.
You can't get out of the speeches, but April makes them as painless as possible. She's quick to answer questions & creates a comfortable environment for speaking. I took the hybrid class & most of our quizzes and lectures were online - easy-peasy! She gives helpful feedback, grades right away, and tells you exactly what she wants. Great professor.
I loved this class! Professor Hebert is a great at making the students understand, and making the public speaking class a comfortable environment. She is very clear on what she wants you to do and is always there to help her students who are having a hard time.
She is very nice. She is very helpful. She is patient and friendly. I recommend you take her class, you learn a lot of information in a fun way. She helps us become extroverted in society.
April is not intimidating if you're afraid of public speaking. Just practice your speeches. 4 speeches and a few easy quizzes. She gives examples of what every speech should look like, all you have to do is write it. Turn it in before speech day and she gives feedback to fix any issues. I was nervous but it was an easy class. Practice!
April was amazing as a professor. She makes this very nerve-racking class easy and doable. There are 4 speeches for the whole semester and 1 open book quiz. Speeches will require a formal outline as well as speaking notes and visual aide. If you participate in the public speaking festival you get an automatic A on the final.
April's class was great! I am terrified of public speaking, but I really enjoyed taking this class! If you follow the speaking guidelines and halfway pay attention you'll definitely get an A! I would take this class again.
I took this professor for my Hybrid COM101 class. Very easy class! She's very specific on what she wants. She gives a big range for what your speech topic can be about. Makes you feel comfortable giving speeches. Lots of ways to earn extra credit. Always offers to help if you need it. Highly recommend her class.
This is my second class with Professor Hebert and I love her just as much. Class consists of mostly lecture but she is upbeat and keeps it interesting. Weekly writing assignments that are very informal. 3 tests throughout the semester with 2 chances of extra credit. Easy grader, easy class, I recommend her for sure!Don't use the textbook at all
Never once opened my textbook. She has online lectures which cover the main stuff. 3 easy in class presentations and 1 recorded speech. Final is online and open note/book/internet. Only homework is practicing your speech. She gives good feedback on how to get better with each speech. Super chill and easy class. I dreaded COM101 for no reason!
She is a good teacher, tries to be funny but most of the time is not. i took her in a hybrid class so the classes felt very long and boring. She always lectured always on topic but it just got boring after a while. only three test online and one post weekly on a discussion board. also one 250-word essay a week, so overall very easy class to get A
I took COM101 in the span of 4 weeks this summer, and it was easy! There were only 4 speeches (last one turned-in online), 1 extra credit quiz, and the final is online. I only opened my book once, so the book isn't necessary. Professor Hebert is an energetic and nice lady. Don't be intimidated to take this in 4 weeks with her. Just do the work!
Teacher is very straight forward be ready to speak and do not skip any class because will affect you more then what you think. She have no filter so if you are not someone who can take hight criticism don't take the class. Easy grade if you are willing to work for it and do all the comments and assignments.
I thought she was great. I took a hybrid 8 week class with April. But I passed with an A. Attendance is important. But it's a public speech class what do you expect? Best professor I have had at CSN hands down. Would take her classes again. She's very nice and understanding of life happens.
April was an amazing professor! She's very caring and easy to talk to if you ever have questions or need help with assignments. She's also very easy going and funny and you could tell she cares about how you are doing. Also, she makes it very clear from the beginning about what's expected when taking her course and what she wants from work/projects
Online class is clear & well structured. Feedback/responses to questions are quick & I never had an issue reaching out & receiving an answer. Just follow the video lectures and do all the assignments given & you'll be fine.
Ms. Hebert was a great professor. I had a personal issue come up during the last in class speech and she understood and worked with me. If you pay attention do your work and ask questions you will pass without a doubt. Showing up to class is a good thing but she is very understanding and not judgmental.
April kept me informed throughout the semester by sending gentle reminders about assignments that were easy to miss. Her grading scale was very clear and adhering to the structure while including specific content is all you gotta do! Does not really do late assignments so no procrastinating!! Awesome professor! Would take again!
Com 101 was a class I dreaded for the longest, but with Hebert it was much different. I did get the usual speech anxiety, but she gives great feedback and cares about you improving as you progress through the course. Every speech gets easier as you become more comfortable with the material.
Super easy class. Every week, there was a 250-word assignment, which was super easy, she is an easy grader. There is also a weekly discussion.
Great professor, she is super laid back and funny. She always is clear with what she expects of her students and gives great feedback. There are 4 speeches, and a couple quizzes. Definitely recommend this class.
This class was great. I have become more comfortable with public speaking because of it. Professor Hebert was so caring. She truly wanted us to do well and would not grade too harshly. I recommend taking this class.
You will need to buy an access code, but just buy it from the csn bookstore, it is cheaper. 4 speeches, but they are not bad. She really prepares you! There was extra credit opportunities. I received an A on each speech. I had one class per week, easy. Make sure you go to class for credit. Online quizzes are easy, and I did not read the textbook much
April is a great professor. I would highly recommend to take her online classes if you have busy schedules outside of school like a full time job or have a family and children to look after because of the class flexibility. Her exceptions is pretty straight forward. As long you read the syllabus and do the work on time, you should be fine.
Took this spring 2020. Easy class and very good teacher! Took her also for communication 102 and was also very good. Highly recommended! Speeches arent that bad.
Com 102 was an easy class especially with Professor Hebert. Shes very caring! Every week youll have a discussion, writing assignment of 250 words, and answer some questions of what you learned that week. Do the work and youll pass!
3 speeches. Took a hybrid class and you should too. Less work than an in-person class. Tests we reviewed beforehand and she basically gives you the answers. Very nice teacher! No finals didn't use the textbook because she was that good at reviewing. There are lessons online to complete also. Very easy.
A very very sweet professor! Very understanding. With the conversion to fully online due to the coronavirus, she understood that it definitely affected all of us and made assignments very simple. When I attended in person before all this, we took tests online at home once a week - very easy. Overall easy class, you learn allot! Highly recommend
I took her for com 102 and for com 116. ( I passed both her classes with an A+. ) With this professor in order to pass her classes is work ethic, consistency and she really cares a lot about participation. So if you take either online or in person. Always participate! The only way to fail is by no self discipline and not consistent.
April is really kind and she has a really nice flow to her course. There's chapter homework weekly that essentially is a mandatory study session. Then there' one reflection on the chapter and how you apply it and fun discussion that requires one response. Overall easy and genuinely interestin. Great lectures too if you are more of an audio person.
TAKE THIS PROFESSOR! Professor Hebert is extremely on the side of HELPING students succeed & get A's. If you put in even just a bit of effort for this class, you'll get an A, trust me. The only two more time consuming assignments other than weekly assignments r a small argumentative essay & a bigger argumentative essay, but they r simple in nature
All you have to do is try. You really cant fail unless you literally just dont complete your assignments. Professor is very helpful if you reach out.
The environment is very welcoming, we all hate speeches but she's an easy grader and doesn't judge. Got full points on all 4 speeches and reflections, she makes everything clear, and is always willing to help. You must take her, she's a great professor and it's an easy class as long as you do those outlines for the speeches :)
Professor April is awesome. She has amazing lectures and an amazing podcast. Participation is key. She is caring and very understanding. Homework and assignments are intuitive.
I took Dr. Hebert's class once a week and was very anxious at the start about the fast pace of the course. However, she was able to create concise lessons that made it very easy to write speeches around. She will give great feedback, and honestly, as long as you genuinely try to present your speech, it is relatively easy to get a good grade.
This class is an easy A if you keep up with the assignments. I was nervous because it was a half-semester class, but it was easy to manage. I'd recommend this class to those with jobs while in college. Do the extra credit, I ended the class with a 103% because of it.
I consider an excellent professor one who pulls information from many sources and uses free resources. I would consider a good professor someone whose videos aren't 2 years old. Her videos are 5 years old, and her focus is just on her podcast which is FREE. $90 for smartbooks assignments, which are the most boring, repetitive assignments ever.
Really easy class as long as you keep up with the assignments for each discussion. They were given all at the beginning of the year so you could pace yourself really well. Her lectures are fun and she made them entertaining.
Literally easiest A I have received. As long as you try and submit your work, you will do well. 8-week course had two chapters a week with each chapter having an assignment, discussion, and reflection. I got 100s on every assignment I submitted. She let me submit late after a mistake. Great professor, I highly recommend!
Easy A in this class. Hardly had to present on camera even tho this was an online course. Just purchase the main textbook and its smooth sailing. Exams were not too tough and I did extra credit, which greatly helped my grade. Take her when you have the chance.
This was overall a very easy and informative communications class. She is very clear on her directions, and it is easy to get an A if you put in a little bit of effort and meet her rubrics. The thing people in this class mainly struggled with was timing their speeches, so definitely practice your time on your own. Very kind teacher, and easy class.
Great class, 4 speeches overall, you get graded on attendance!
Professor Hebert is kind; as long as you make an effort in your speeches, you can achieve an A in her class. Also, she has a pretty awesome podcast. If you enjoy them, give hers a chance. She provides excellent lectures and more than enough time to complete your speeches. Motivational is the hardest if you are not video/video-editing savvy.
I really enjoyed Professor Hebert. She is very passionate about Interpersonal Communication. There were a lot of assignments, and they were due every Tuesday and Friday, so it felt like you were doing work quite often. The work itself is not very difficult at all. Some very interesting subjects. No speeches in this class. Take professor Hebert!
The class was not what I expected. It was actually better than expected. Just follow the grading policy and submit assignments when they are due. She is quick to respond to emails too. I could of gotten an A but I forgot to submit the final paper :(
This class was fantastic. I took her 8 week course and she graded very leniently and we had 6 assignments due every week (2 smartbooks, 2 discussions, and 2 short essays). As long as you did the work you should do good in the class, and I loved her lectures.
I took this course over summer 2024. The course itself is relatively easy. I would recommend to see her lectures. She isn't very lenient when grading. Assignments are turned in every week: 1 discussion post + responding to someone. A 250 word answering her question and a quiz through McGraw Hill. the book is +100 dollars and mandatory.
Not a very good professor at all. Takes off points for stupid stuff. Not fond of her teaching style at all. Her lectures are bland and make no sense. She never answers any emails. Avoid taking her and take this at UNLV instead.
Not a good teacher. avoid taking at all costs.
This was an incredible course, and I would recommend this professor. She used the same layout for each chapter, which included a lecture video, a Smartbook assignment (we used McGraw-Hill Connect), a discussion, and a written assignment. Also, you needed to respond to at least one classmate in each discussion. Best COM professor!
Professor is okay. I did learn a lot, though. Assignments are relatively quick and final is open note and book.
I loved this COM class! It has changed the way I have shaped my day to day conversations. Each chapter had a lecture video, Smartbook assignment, and discussion. I was able to interact with others in the class and see viewpoints I was not familar with. Take this class if you can!!
Took Ms. Herbert's COM 102 class for the 2025 Spring Semester for 8 weeks. There were SmartBook assignments, discussions, and written assignments, and pay for the textbook. There was a final reflection paper and extra credit. I enjoyed the discussion posts because they changed my way of thinking about everyday communication - take the class, easy A
Absolutely great class! Super informative, the assignments weren't too lengthy, and the professor is really kind. The discussion questions were actually interesting, and the written assignments were as well. Overall, super simple and informative class! Lovely professor, take her :)
I loved taking Professor Hebert's class! In COM 102, you will have a lecture, discussion post, and reflection due every Tuesday and Friday. Everything is really manageable, you just have to make time! All her assignments were actually interesting and informative, this is your sign to take her class!
Professor Hebert was one of my favorite teachers. I wasn't a good speaker at the start of the semester, but through her class I learned a lot and improved greatly! There were also extra credit opportunities, like visiting a librarian for a speech, which were 10 points, and there was one pop quiz worth 20 points of extra credit!
