Good Class!! learned a lot about my peeps! although she is very biased...Funny and down to earth...she really enjoys teaching
She is completely awesome!! She's very passionate about history and the class is 90% lecture but very fun and insightful & she tells you exactly what will be on the test as she writes the notes on the board. The biggest assignment is the research paper and it can be on anything you want. I'd love to take her class again.
dispte the fact that she is very good looking, she is also one of the best teachers at Mt.Sac. She makes history fun and intresting. pay attention during lecture and take good notes in class, it will help. Take her shes AWESOME!!!
One of the best teachers Ive ever had! Extremely nice, and very understanding. Teaches true history, not just the typical biased American side of it. You have to know your stuff though, tests are mostly short answer but easy and she is very open minded. Definitely recommend. Be ready to talk because she loves to hear your opinions.
Professor April Tellez, is the BEST! I was amazed at the amount of information I retained in her class. Her passion sparked an interest within me like no other. She is so cute and extremely loveable. If you want the most our of class, take her. I HIGHLY, HIGHLY RECOMMEND HER!
SHE DID A GOOD JOB FOR HER 1ST TIME TEACHING. THE CLASS WAS INTRESTING. I LIKE HER PERSONALITY. DOWN TO EARTH
she is the best.. she is very caring and understanding , i could of done better but she was still nice in grading.. and she is VERY pretty so thats a plus =]]]]]
Professor Tellez was excellent. I truly felt that this class was very eye opening. I definitely recommend her. Btw, she is a cutie =OD
She is amazing! I hated history before taking her class. She is a great person I would recommend her any day!
Great teacher, great style of teaching, down to earth person who really likes what she does...
She's a full blown activist she's pretty awesome if your into fighting for inequalities but don't miss class because you'll regret that you didn't see her beautiful face and most likely regret it when testing comes in. She's very passionate about what she does we definately need more of these professors
Very cool teacher! You learn alot and she is not boring. Tells you things the way history really happened, she doesn't candy coat things.
she is very cool and funny, you have to read a lot but if you read your books and study for the test are going to pass.
She's so down to earth unlike other profs. She teaches perfectly well. Not an easy class but you put just a little effort. Go to class, do the readings, and study for the exams and you'll pass. I mean this is COLLEGE not high school. Plus she's kinda cute 2. TAKE HER! You won't regret it and you'll learn something.
I hated history before taking this class. She made it possible not only to have a passion for history, but have intellegent conversations about it. I would take any class she teaches just because she's a great teacher. She is a little unorganized and I didn't get back my last 2 tests. BUT!!!! She is a great teacher and great person.
she doesn't bs around. tells you as it is.
I'm taking her hist1 class this summer and so far it's awesome!!! This teacher is a true activist. She has no clue how much of an impact she has on her students. The way she teaches makes the class feel comfortable and the lectures are highly engaging. I recommend her to ANYONE who needs some inspiration. True nobel prize winner!!!
I had her for the summer and her class was beyond awesome. loved her!!
I love this teacher because she is so passionate and brought history alive. She made history fun and she talks about important issues in history emphasizing in native americans and minorities. Take her class you wont regret it!
Wonderful professor! Gave great lectures and gives great information on the subject! Made you proud to be chicano! Take her Mexican American class its great!
Hella cool!! Very pretty!(: (which keeps u interested) A really caring and warm hearted spirit, you could tell when she talks about different ppl. Plus she wants to start a Museum of Tolerance for Native Americans which is awesome people need to help w/that! Got me way more open minded and thats rare. Free Leonard Peltier!
Wow, this woman is awesome. The way she teaches is filled with passion and really captures everybody's attention. Everything is great EXCEPT she is very unorganized. Yes, that makes her filled with surprises and spontaneous. But please, somebody volunteer to organize her stuff for her next time!
April made this class so interesting ..I dreaded taking history but she is pationate about everything when it has to do with history
Awesome Teacher!
Not much of a professor. Always late to class. Lecture is always disorganized & filled with constant irrelevant conversations about her personal life. Lecture is just a huge waste of time because you NEVER get tested on it. Exams are ALWAYS at least 80% on the analysis/interpretation of Zinn history books. I have much more to say but no more room.
Everything that comes out of her mouth has to do with race. She is very gung-ho about Mexican/Native American history. Claims to support all minorities and oppressed peoples, although she NEVER talks about any group other than Mexicans and Native Americans (as if they're the only oppressed minority in the US). She gets very annoying and repetiti
I took a summer history class from april back when she was teaching at SBVC. She is an amazing teacher and a very kind hearted individual...and the fact that on a scale of 1 to 10, 10 being SUPER HOT she's a 14 also helps..in all seriousness, april tellez is what an amazing professor
yes tellez is a passionate cool person, but she is horrible as a teacher.shes always late, never organize and full of excuses for not having work corrected. lectures are always un prepaired,off-topic,and point less, cause their never on test.she lives in her own lil world and will share it with you.shes completly clueless of what students needs are
Made history fun, interesting and time fly by in the 3 hour class i had with her over the summer! Great personality, always smiling, energetic, and passionate about history. Best class i have taken at mt.sac. Had to do 1 pg journals which were easy.Tests not hard. VERY interesting class!!!
Great heart warming teacher who inspires her students!
She is a really good teacher! you can tell she's very passionate about this class...Mexican American History. and if you need any help she's more than welcome to help you out in any questions you have.
honestly, my favorite teacher of all time. i love this lady. 'nuf said.
wow Ms. Tellez by far is the best professor I have had. Very passionate about her subject. I definitely recommend HIST 40 to everyone.
really good teacher! makes class fun, and actually cares about the subject! highly recommend her!
great teacher! has a passion for her work and enjoys helping out her students as well as getting to know them.
tellez is cool.. but you really got to pay attention.... she IS a feminist! and what that guy said about you being uncomfortable if you are white... it prolly will make u feel uncomfortable... but i really dont know...
Easiness4 Telliz is a beautiful intelligent Professor who grades somewhat easy..Just read the books , study for exams, and a few in- class assignments and presentations.. CAUTION: she is a Feminist, but definitely NOT a male basher. She takes PRiDE in Chicano History and helping make students more knowledgeable about their Culture and History.
Fun and lively teacher. I really enjoyed her class and truly learned a lot! Enjoyed her lectures because she always made it interesting to listen and told stories sometimes too. The only thing I didn't like was the journals but they're easy points; just lazy to do them.
Her class was painfully easy. She get's off track a lot so her lectures aren't worth much. You'll learn more from reading the book than going to class. I wouldn't recommend her for serious students or for history majors because you'll just be frustrated for 16 weeks, she's great for an easy A though.
GREAT teacher! I didn't want to take a history class, but I'm so happy I took this class! You really learn a lot and she makes class fun and exciting.
Best teacher, easy on grading just keep up with the readings and study for exams..and you will be fine..hope you enjoy her class:)
Ms. Tellez is utterly likable, but does tend to get off track and waste a lot of time. no bueno in summer session. She admits her class is very biased but she explains that it's because we've heard enough glorifying American history, so I'm okay with it. Summer was VERY EASY but tests were based almost exclusively on lecture so don't miss class!
Professor Tellez truly belongs teaching at some Ivy league university. She is so erudite and scholarly that I actually looked forward to attending lecture everyday as I learned SO much! She teaches you to be critical and not accept everything as sheep. Def one of the most enlightening classes I've taken. Highly recommended, and take detailed notes!
LOVE this professor! She's so inspiring and passionate about teaching. This class will truly open your eyes. She's just the nicest person too.
Prof Tellez is pretty much BOMB.com! She is passionate about what she teaches which makes lectures interesting,I look forward to going to her class! There's never a dull moment & she genuinely cares for her students! So many people try and her class, and she has many students including myself, who have taken her for more than one semester, c'mon now!
Ms. Tellez is a wonderful teacher! I looked forward to her class every Tuesday for my fall semester. She is very entertaining and i would recommend her to everyone 100% my history class was never boring(;
She looks like the young, hip, Latina, Marie Osmond. Professor Tellez embodies what an education should be. She teaches the REAL history.. forget all that nonsense you learned before. She's truly passionate about what she does. She's so good that the University of Oxford invited her as a speaker. Her class is really enjoyable and FUN! Take her!
Amazing professor. Her class isn't at all about memorizing dates but rather learning concepts with substance & the real truth. Lecture is never dull. She's passionate & fun. She has a lot of knowledge & is so humble about it. Read outside of class to do well (they're easy reads)! Can run off on tangents & be unorganized, but you'll love her.
The content of the class was really good. However, be prepared for a professor that doesn't answer emails and is a little aloof on how to better help her students succeed.
TALKS WAY TO FAST very unorganized never give assignments back :(
Very unorganized, goes off topic in lectures, not a good Prof. for those that REALLY want to learn. She wastes class time talking about personal issues and viewpoints. She postponed the test twice, and due to the unnecessary conversations she didn't cover everything in study guide and crammed the last of the information the day before the test.
Shes a really nice lady, her lectures are very interesting, she can get a little of topic but she makes sure to teach the class what is needed, overall shes a really cool professor, oh and really pretty (:
Doesn't give assignments back on time and is late to class.
She is awesome! One of those teachers that have an impact on your life. She says it how it is. I am not a history kind of person but she made it interesting. She is very passionate about her job and students. It's not that she's off topic, she takes the time to answer questions/doubts because she cares. I recommend her.
For sure one of those teachers that inspire her students. I took her class a few years ago and did well because teacher was so cool I wanted her to not be disappointed. I recommend her class to everyone . She made history fun.
She is the most passionate person I have ever come across! I loved her energy, helpfulness, friendliness, and even her tangents! Her tests are a challenge because its hand written BUT study hard and make sure you actually DO the reading and you will be fine! Do not think you will even be near a passing grade without doing so!
Mt. SAC is so blessed to have Professor Tellez! She is extremely knowledgeable about History and probably one of the youngest in her profession. I recommend everyone to take advantage of her while she's here! You will leave the class with a better understanding of the world you live in and able to make changes! :)
Scatterbrain. Extremely difficult to get hold of. Poor communication (e-mail). Grading scale is very unclear and confusing. You won't know your grade until its posted online. Late to class, goes off topic A LOT. Great as a person, but not so great as a professor. Not recommended.
She may be a scatterbrain but it all falls down on your notes. If you really don't care about Mexican American History its a bore. Take good notes write down EVERYTHING and for sure you'll get an A. I did shes passionate, funny and amazing I recommend her to everyone
Great teacher. Very energetic. As long as notes are taken on EVERYTHING she says in class, you will achieve a satisfactory grade. Mostly unbiased. Speaks the truth and only the truth. Her Native American History class is an eye-opener. GREAT overall.
She is by far the best professor ive ever had! She is so energetic and sweet. She is very clear on topics and its easy to understand the lectures. Highly recomment her :)
Ms. Tellez is one of the best instructors I have taken here at Mt.Sac. Her lectures are always interesting and I always looked forward to attending her class. She is honest about History and you will have a different awareness and understanding of what really happened in America in the beginning.
Professor Tellez is the best history professor i have had! She is great, she will really change the way you see everything. She will actually help u to think on your own, and to make your own judgments. There is not alot of homwork, her tests are not multiple choice, more opinion based. She is great!
I LOVE her! She is an amazing professor. She will open your eyes to the reality of History. She does NOT blame anything on one culture. You're in college, it's called critical thinking people! Lectures are very interesting and you are expected to read and understand the material. Definitely recommend taking her class.
Fantastic professor, makes an effort not only to teach history in a clear and unbiased manner, but also tries her best to make the class interesting for everyone in attendance. I have every intention of taking another one of her classes.
She is a very good teacher if she actually teaches. Most lectures go off topic to something about her. She is a scatter brain who will never follow syllabus and never replies to emails and the next day she'll say she couldnt log on to the website. Oh yeah she also misses a lot, and she loves her students who complement her. Easy A
If your going to commit to a U.S. History class, take Ms. Tellez. I cannot describe how wonderful she is. She loves to talk and get to know her students. She teaches history from a much different perspective. She's probably one of my favorite professors I've ever had.
Best professor I've ever had. Very helpful and gives you every opportunity to succeed.
PROFESSOR TELLEZ, she's a great professor and passionate in her teachings. I recommend her to anyone. Homework there's homework. FINALLY, there's two books needed for this class. She's a great professor
Great professor. I recommend her to anyone she is very passionate about her teaching. She takes the time to clarify anything you might not understand the class. I have taken her twice different classes but did not notice a different. She is a great professor, very friendly and nice
Great professor, she knows what she is talking about and has a passion for the subject. she's hot too ;)
Truly a life changing class. She is such an amazing class. She teaches the perspective of minorities and common people. A lot of reading, but tests are easy just might give you carpal tunnel HAHA Lectures all over the place, but still easy to follow. Love her, love the class. Hated history now I want to take more.
Took her class fall of 2013 and Lethe tell you she was all over the place. We were behind on our scheduled work so we had to cram so much on certain lectures. But overall her class was pretty easy if you do the reading and it is a lot of reading from 3different books. If you don't do the required reading then you pretty much set yourself to fail pretty much. So take good notes and read read read and for sure you will pass.
Tellez has a great personality but don't let that fool you into believing that her class will be easy. She's passionate for what she does and in order to pass her class YOU MUST READ, if you aren't going to read, don't bother, for you are pretty much setting yourself up for failure. Nonetheless, I would recommend her, I learned a lot from her.
Her personality is amazing!Everyone loves her! But the downfall is, she never takes attendance, very little assignments. You would think this is a good thing, but its not when you only have 3 hard test that determined your grade. She is VERY passionate about history!
I loved her! She clearly loves history and loves teaching it. Even though she does not take attendance, if you don't go it makes it much harder. As long as you show up and try it's an easy class. Also, talk to her! She likes students that actively engage in her class!
Easy A can get off topic but she makes class very interesting and tells it straight forward
She is energetic, knowledgeable, relate-able, fun, easy to get along with, and she is passionate at what she does. If you don't look for any of these in a professor, then I highly suggest you choose from the pool of plain, bland, un-inspiriting list of professors that teach history. I recommend her to everyone.
Professor Tellez is all over the place. Her lectures can sometimes get confusing because she gets distracted. Do not let that take away from her capabilities as a professor. She is passionate about what she teaches. She tries to make class fun by interacting with her students.
Personality wise, Prof. Is all that you've read here. Very knowledgeable & passionate, ect. As for the class - only 3 exams + Multiple choiceessay portions, points for participation that are equivalent to a letter grade (speak up), and that's it. It's an easy going class, but don't expect to breeze through. You have to work very hard studying!
She was usually late. On 4 different occasions she said she would email us and didn't. The class lectures are somewhat informative, but she gets to caught up in personal beliefs. MOST IMPORTANT SHE NEVER SHOWED UP FOR THE FINAL!! No email, no letter on door, and no notice. Only 3 tests, which is nice, unless you a bad test taker. Never bought book
The beautiful Ms. Tellez has an amazing personality & seriously passionate. She taught me so much. If you take another history class, u'll be missing out a lot by not taking her. I had a great experience, but she's a tough grader. With studying, I got Cs on my test but she still gave me a B &I had poor attendance cuz of my son. April Excellent!
April Tellez is a well educated professor and will lecture you on everything you may need to know about History. She will be late a few times, that is forsure, and may cancel class a bit. Her test and quizzes will contain multiple choice questions but also a written portion on the readings, so make sure you keep up with the readings.
awesome professor! i have never rated a professor before, but I just had to for her. She is full of energy and makes class fun! she will be late, but as stressed student the extra time is more than welcome. She truly care for her students.
She is a good professor but teaches from her own perspective. Late often and cancels class sometimes but a very easy class.
no quiz only midterm and final. she doesn't take roll but you gotta show up class. She plays videos in class sometimes and it relates to the exams. 2 papers but not too hard. She is really nice and helpful ! take her !
Goods looking smart and helpful
Pay attention and study and the class will be a breeze. Midterms and final are all written (Essay). For this class we had one in class midterm and one take home midterm and the final was also take home. She misses class quite frequently. She's certainly not the best but also not the worst.
Learned A LOT about the Native Americans, ( It's not bad, but I didn't enroll for that course ). Test were essay style, easy if you took good notes. This semester, was frequently late, or absent. Which was upsetting to me, it felt like I wasted my time and money. If you want an easy A take it If you want to learn more history take another one.
She was an awesome professor, she clearly knows what she is talking about. Although she may go off topic sometimes, you just have to bring her back yourself and she'll continue teaching. Take REALLY GOOD notes and the exams will be a breeze. Visit her Office ours and she will practically give you the answers for whatever question you as her! BOMB;)
Tellez is very passionate about history. Although I took US history her main focus was native Americans. The only time I learned about Other time periods in history were in my book readings. She missed class a lot which I did not like since it was a once a week class. Take her for an easy A.! And for more insight on native Americans
Ms. Tellez is such an amazing professor, very insightful! Plus she's a cutie :)
AMAZING professor when it comes to her teaching. Very passionate/intelligent. HOWEVER, very unorganized. Received an A on all my work and only ONE B. Grades came out I was given a C. She didnt answer emails and when school contacted her she only raised it to a B. Very discouraging considering the work I put in to get those As and Im a history major
Ms. Tellez is very intelligent and knows her stuff. However, she is very unorganized and cancels class way to much, so we miss tons of reviews. I enjoyed her class, she just started to get lazy towards the end of the semester. Also she does NOT reply to emails!! I asked her about my grade and scores (since she cancels class). NO feedback! Terrible
I thought she would be better than my last history professor. She cancels class frequently. Alright not the best & doesn't reply to emails or isn't in her office in the mornings as it says on syllabus.
Great Professor !
Conflicted because she is an awesome person - she's very nice and very passionate to what she stands for. However she does not follow the syllabus (we only went over half of the material, gives late feedback on tests/papers, & is not in her office hours or does not respond to emails). If you want an easy A, take this class. But if you want to learn
Very intelligent woman and passionate about history. I've never been so interested in a lecture and only missed once because I looked forward to the classes. She is a little unorganized and we never got through the syllabus. As long as you read the books and take notes, you will pass! I'd take her again.
Professor Tellez , is very inspirational unlike many other professors. I have never been so thrilled to take a U.S History course.
I enjoyed this class. What I didn't enjoy about Ms Tellez not responding to emails! I had questions for her and she never replied. She is always on her damn phone in class. I came to learn!! horrible professor and poor feedback ( never in her office during office hours) oh yeah! she also cancels class frequently! I don't recommend at all.
Amazing professor gives amazing lectures that makes you want to learn more about history. She missed a few times but if you put in the effort in doing the readings she assigns you will pass her class. Ask her questions after lecture and she will work with you. I score a D on my first exam and a B on the second and still got an A. Plus shes hot!
She's the best professor! take her!!
Ms. Tellez is such an amazing professor! She is so passionate and knowledgeable about the subjects she teaches. She speaks quickly and can get a little sidetracked but it's only because she wants to convey all points to you as well as tie it in to the present day. She keeps you engaged and participating in the class. Love her!
Tests are usually long essay tests. TAKE good Notes. You have to read Latina Legacies but not the whole book be prepared to write a paper on this book. Her lectures are very interesting & informative as long as you take notes you are set. She is a very passionate professor. I would take all her history classes but I need to transfer.
currently in her summer course & i am learning absolutely NOTHING. don't get me wrong she's a nice lady who definitely knows her stuff but she writes down like 3 points she wants to go over on the board then proceeds to get sidetracked & talk about herself or preach to the class. i honestly lose braincells in this class I'm sorry but stay far away
I took her for AmericanMexican History and I was super excited to learn about my own history because I am Mexican descent, but I learned absolutely nothing in her class she was always cancelling class and arriving late. Its such a shame tho because she is actually very smart take it if u want an easy A but if u truly want 2 learn take another prof.
What do I say about Professor Tellez? Horrible professor! STAY AWAY!! Did not learn anything only about her life. Absolutely terrible.
As a HS student taking college classes, I have to say that this class was my favorite class I've taken so far. She cares about the students, and gives good lectures straight from the heart. You are required to read, but it isn't too much. Reviews are right: Cancels class & leaves class when putting on videos. Don't let that discourage you though.
So, I took her for the summer. She honestly is amazing! I loved her and never got bored, she dosent do PowerPoint, so it's mostly lecture and videos but even so I felt like I learned so much, take notes and read the book and honestly you'll pass, her tests arnt to hard if you do your reading and notes
Ms Tellez is an awesome person. once you get into how she teaches, be ready because you gon' learn today :) she does not give power points or traditional notes often, kind of bounces back and forth but the information does stick because she is very passionate about history and will tell you what you need to know to pass the class, understanding
Took her Mexican American history class. She is amazing & very passionate about the knowledge she possesses. Great lectures, just make sure you pay attention and take notes! A few reviews on here speak negatively about her because she is at times late or has cancelled a class. So what? She's on top it and sends emails on further instruction!
Read, Read, Pay attention and study and the class will be a breeze. Midterms and final are all written (Essay) and may be take home. She misses class or is late quite frequently. She's certainly not the best but also not the worst.
I was recommended by another student who has taken Prof. April Tellez, HIST 1 class, and I am glad I did. She is am amazing prof. All I can say is come to class, she will show a video which at end all you have to do is write about it not too long in your journal, (total of 10). Her lectures were great and she knows her history. take her class
Nice and knowlegable in her subject but the class has it's flaws. Required 5 books 1 for a paper and 4 others we read 1 or 2 chapters of each for 1 test question on the final and midterm. Late to all her classes except 2 by more than 10 min. Claimed to give extra credit which was never received. Slow replying to emails. Test not multiple choice.
I have never wrote a review about a professor before and I've been going to Mt. Sac for awhile now. I feel like Ms. Tellez deserves recognition for everything she does. Yeah she does cancel class often but she has a busy life outside of school. Overall class is easy grade is based one exam, a research paper, journal entries and a take home final.
Very inspiring. She does skip class a lot at it was worrisome at first, but it's honestly not much of a big deal. Check email for skipped classes. Two big projects, midterm, journal, and a final presentation. Very good class to take, I recommend. Don't buy the books expect for the one you have a project on.
Prof. is the best at mt sac. You'll learn allot in class. She'll miss allot of class and comes late but no big deal you'll still learn allot. One midterm and a final exam (easy) and two papers. And you'll watch videos of hist from the past. Take her you won't regret it. And she's the most nicest and understandable teacher you'll ever have.
She is a very nice professor, is always for the oppressed and right cause. She goes into detail with everything and history. So feisty and will speak her mind, open minded but won't stand to hear someone if they're disrespectful. She grades fairly, good feedback, and if you participate you will pass. Her tests are not tough book pprs are short read
The best educator I have ever had. She's so inspirational and super understanding of students. She isn't all that tough but she does want you to participate and work for your grade in the sense of opening your mind to view things differently. Highly recommend taking one of her courses, she'll definitely make a big impact on how you view things!!
You're put in groups &introduce yourselves to one another then present in pairs in front of the class & that's all you do on the 1st day without even getting to the syllabus yet. This class is heavily discourse-driven so beware. Also there will group projects/presentations plus class debates & field trips too apparently. Oh & 3 textbooks required.
We were not following the syllabus. Lot of time wasted. Heavy on hour long videos. Bought books that we never used. Im a Chicano and Im upset how the class about Mexican America history is being treated. Being treated as an easy A. Its a shame to see thats all it is. I disconnected from the class early. Im saddened how the class is.
Tellez is probably one of the best professor's I've ever taken. She is very passionate about her students and history. She also makes it a fun learning atmosphere for her students. I would definitely take her again. You must take her.
April is the best you wont regret taking her class! Easy A hardly any homework just show up for lectures I promise you that you wont fail only if you dont do the blue books or the presentantions ! Super easy fun class !
Tellez is by far the coolest prof. She is really there for her students. However if youre going in to gain some knowledge about the subject, not the class for you. She really doesnt teach, but talks about her personal life and her experiences. I missed several class sessions + assignments and still received a B.
She's a nice person. But when it comes to class lectures, she talked mostly about herself. If you take her, you won't learn anything about history. you're most likely going to learn about her and her personal life. She assigned us two books, but we hardly even used them. Overall, good person, but she's not a teacher. She's more like your friend.
So, i was always afraid of history but Pro. Tellez inspire me to take more history classes. Simply the best lectures are very interesting and she makes small talk, loves her profession and cares for students.
Professor Tellez is one of the best professors I had taken. Her lectures are straight tho the point and very interesting. No homework just a midterm project and the final. Very easy stuff to do nothing hard. She cares about the students future especially for the minority groups. I have always had an interest in history, Highly recommend.
great teacher! very caring about students. Everyone that says they didn't learn anything, obviously wasn't paying attention in lecture. I learned alot.
Super sweet and inspirational. Easily one of the best professors Ive had. She can be a little disorganized at times and cancels class pretty frequently but she does teach very well and I actually learn in that class. I just wish she didnt make us do so much group work lol.
She is by far one of the best professors at mt sac! A true Gem. She is willing to help if needed and understand that life can get in the way of school sometime. She does have a lot of group work, but four brains is better then one!(: I would definitely recommend her.
Loves and cares about her students and people in general. Despite the fact that she runs late quite often, skipped class a couple times and talks about her husband and kids quite a bit, great teacher! Enjoyed her lectures, but she does make you get four books which you really don't need. Do the work required A!
Shes a nice person. Extremely aware of social issues which was refreshing at first. Shed make you analyze events and articles but with the same general questions. Towards the end, she relied heavily on videos and articles. The class grew to be boring. It is an easy A but I would not take again.
Tellez has been one of the most influential professors I have ever had. She is truly passionate about her craft and it's contagious! I hated history until I took her class over the summer. She emphasizes the experience of POC and the injustice that has influenced our society today. She really makes you question your own position in society.
Tellez is a wonderful professor, very nice, and such an activist. Mt sac is a Very active school, and she fits right in. But don't be lazy and expect a good experience.
She was really nice and understanding all you need to do is do the journals attend class study for quizzes and you'll be just fine
I absolutely love Prof. Tellez-Wagner! She is very knowledgeable and a very understanding person. When I looked at the syllabus I was scared because there are two presentations but she well prepares the class and she might even extend the date if necessary. She made such a big impact of so many of the students in my class (including myself)!
(online) Relatively easy class. You've gotta do research and use the textbooks. My friend sent me the PDFs for free so ask around. Lots of writing.. She's not a harsh grader, and I can tell she's really nice.
Online class, she expects too much for a history class. Too much writing. I write less than this in an English class! A 2 page museum paper, A reflection paper and 13 weekly discussions. And Every exam is a written essay!? Including the final! On top of that, the expected reading that comes with it. I don't think this class is a good option.
Not a good option if you choose to take online. Its a lot of writing and watch long videos. Overall, i didn't learn anything.
Well most students will tell you that April Tellez is a hard class. I'm taking her class 4/20/2019 and it's not a hard class at all. Doing the essay for any history class is not that hard than taking a English course. The only thing that maybe is hard but not really is "time". The only exception is if someone is working or have kids.
Winter 2019 online. I was hard 6 weeks but I learned a lot I really like professor Tellez. Easy to understand her syllabus and what needs to be done each week. Lots of videos and lots of reading but it was very Interesting so I didnt mind. Being 8months pregnant working full time with 2kids. But I passed with A
It was a lot of writing, but it was easy ish. There's a free pdf of the textbook. There was a lot of assigned readings, but I didn't read anything until I needed quotes for the papers. I still passed with a 90%.
From the two in person history classes I've taken with her she starts the semester by having you get a Blue book which you do journal entries with each entry being 10 points each easy points if you just do them. Very rarely there are tests and her final is an essay/research paper super easy. TAKE HER IN PERSON CLASS FOR EASY A
YOU WILL LOVE HER. Very sweet and respected woman. I took her Mexican American History class and definitely deepened my knowledge about my roots. You will learn so much and actually want to go to class. Her assignments are very few, not hard, and very interesting. She is also very caring and supportive. Just do yourself the favor and take her class
Very sweet and respected woman. I took her Mexican American History class and definitely learned a lot. You will learn a lot and will lovey to go to class. Her assignments are very little, and easy , and very interesting. She is also very sweet, caring, funny and helpful. Definitely recommended.
SHE IS AMAZING!! I took her for the history of Mexican Americans and honestly enjoyed her class very much!! She really has a passion for teaching us our history and that's why I enjoyed her class! There are no quizzes and only one exam which is the final exam! would highly recommend her!
From what I read from others she is a great in person teacher. It almost seems like she is trying to prove a point about online classes. She makes it extremely difficult to succeed. Some weeks you will be reading 2 chapters from two different books. Discussions are about 2-3 pages and all exams are written about 5 pages total. DON'T TAKE ONLINE!
I took her class and recieved an A. I hate history too thats why I took this subject online during the winter in 2019, however I found this course pretty easy you you just have to write reminders and dont slack off as you would for any class.
Great professor! I don't understand how she grades things at times, but her instructions are very clear. If you read, watch the videos provided, and do exactly what she asks, you will pass her class with at least a B or even an A.
April Tellez is a wonderful teacher and she is very passionate about history. I never liked learning about history but she made everything feel like it was worth learning. The only tests she gave my class was the midterm and the final. Only about 6 major assignments are graded but they are not very difficult.
Emailed her to try to add one of her classes since I saw that a couple of them were not full and she never replied. Sent her and initial email and then a follow and never received a response to at least say no. Find that rude.
I loved the way she had so many short videos and movies to go along with each assignment. The movies she assigned were so interesting and not boring. They gave a helpful visual that helped complete the discussion boards. I took this class online and was very easy. Not sure about how her class is in person. Hands down take her for history. Easy A.
Every week need to discuss about five questions, and about ten sentences for each. She said she will post her discussion questions at 9 am on Monday but never on time. Midterm is nine essay questions. A primary paper for at least four pages. Overall, she is a good professor if you want to practice your English skills.
Don't take her class. She said she will post her discussion questions at 9 am on Monday but never on time. She set the wrong answer to the syllabus quiz. I told her and she agreed that my answer should be right. When I send her mail to get the scores back, I never received a response to at least say no.
Good professor, but a lot of work. I took it over winter with another class and it was a bit of work. Lots of reading and writing because nearly all the work is for weekly discussion posts. Midterm and final were a lot of writing, but not too difficult. She does provide free textbooks and you will learn a lot but get ready to read and write!
I got an A in the class but i would never take her class again. Get ready to read multiple textbook chapters a week, 3-6 long Essay Questions per week with minimum 10 sentence responses. She ALWAYS posts her work late. It would be 3 or so days into the week before she posts assignments. Requires 2 books. Midterm and Final are 20+ essay questions.
I took this class online and it was great. There is a lot of reading but it's not boring and the assignments are straight forward. There's a free response assignment and discussion board post due weekly. There's 2 papers (easy) and a written midterm/final exam. It's not hard to get an A, but you have to do the reading and stay on top of the work.
There was definitely a lot of reading! I was struggling with my Chemistry class and I ended up dropping to a B since it was hard to keep up, specially since she would post the assignments late. Overall it is a great class, very informative and interesting. I think she does a great job explaining Chicanx History.
Hours worth of videos and reading. She posts assignments late all the time. Changed the listed point system from the syllabus. Some answers to her ?s are not even in the videos or reading. She will not email you back regardless of how many times you email her. Don't expect full credit on anything or any feedback as to why you got docked.
Do yourself a favor and don't take her! Hours worth of videos and ridiculous amounts of reading weekly. Her discussion posts are far from discussions, they are essays. I don't think I've ever had to read and write so much in my life. Not even my English Honors classes had me do the amount of work she gave out. By far the worst professor I've had!
I took Professor Téllez during the whole COVID-19 situation. She assigns so many videos to watch and a lot of reading. You have to have 3 books, plus she always assigns articles to read online. Her discussion post are about 6 questions;however, each question must be answered with 10-12 sentences each + a reply of 5 sentences to other students.
have learned so much from this class. she gives us extra days and is considerate. Its simple watch the videos, do the readings and answer 4 questions by the end of the week. questions are very easy because she gives you the materials and even more than what you need so its easy to elaborate. dont take her class if you do not have desire to learn
Took the abbreviated course which was a lot of writing (3 pages for 7 weeks, mid term was 11 pages long). A lot of reading and additional material to watch. However, the material she provides to complete the assignments listed in the modules helps a lot, but I still had to do additional research to understand and explain my responses
Unprofessional, inconsistent, unethical. Does not respond to emails and is consistently weeks behind on grading. Posts assignments and exams late. Rarely gives any feedback as to why she docked points off of an assignment. Does not adhere to any of the set rules she set for herself in her own syllabus.
Does not respond to inboxes, plenty of reading, no feedback on work.
The questions she assigns for the assignments are ridiculous and on top of that EVERYTHING has to be a 6-15 sentence minimum. Within that minimum she adds another one; i.e 3 paragraphs. If you're able to answer the question clearly less than the minimum, why prolong the work?! Even English courses don't make you write this much. Never again!
By worse the worst professor ever! So unprofessional with emails. Plus all the bs reading that she gives for a GE CLASS which is unnecessary!! 3 books you have to read which is ridiculous and you feel overwhelmed. Oh btw 2 exams for mid term and final which are not multiple choice. I dropped the class because it was overwhelming. Take womens HIST!
This professor is fine but the amount of work is dumb and if you couldn't handle lots of work, you should be considering dropping out and moving on with your life! Zero recommendation!
She doesn't give any feedback and doesn't respond to emails. She grades almost months after and understandably life happens but doesn't give updates at all as to when she will get the grading done. She gives terrible amounts of work and expects great detail but gives no feedback. Not a fan.
As a person, amazing. Very engaging and entertaining. Loves talking with students and appreciates if you talk with her casually and engage in conversation about anything, whether it be small talk or about the academic topic at hand. Loves participation. Absent a lot though. Lots of video lecture/notes. Graded largely on exams/large projects.
This class was fairly simple, and had clear instructions for the homework and exams. In this class you do have to read and write a lot, as well as buy 3 different books which is a bummer. Although with all of that the work is still easy, just time consuming, and you have to do one essay which is 1.5 pages-3 pages. 7/10 class.
This professor is good. Her assignments were very simple and gives good feedback. Her class does have a lot of reading and lectures, but as long as you do her work and handle her class, you will get a good grade.
I took this class in Spring, joined late and wasn't really expecting much. By the end of the first class, I was ready to learn for the rest of the semester. Notes aren't mandatory neither is attendance, but both increase your chances at a better grade. She is very kind and caring for her students she understands life happens and is willing to help.
Very opinionated lectures that sometimes go on and on. Watch many short and long informative videos and have to memorize them for tests.
The professor never responds to her emails. Worst human being I've ever been made aware of. She should be fired and never receive a teaching job ever again.
Grades WEEKS behind, and extremely vague feedback but grades on completion. Never responds to emails and assigns an unholy amount of work. She always posts stuff late but won't give extra time to complete it. Doesn't follow her own syllabus rules or show understanding/compassion with technology issues. Do not take her class unless you have to.
I enjoyed this professor a lot, because she made History 40 (Fall 2023) fun and interesting. She gets very into her lectures. We had 2 essays based on videos and lectures and 3 multiple question reflections. Our class got lucky bc she took away 2 essays and our group project bc we were kinda behind and sometimes she would run late or cancel class.
She's considerate of others and puts her students' needs first. She's passionate about the subject, and teaches history in a way that focuses on the people's experiences other than talking about dead politicians. Lectures are always interesting. Makes you really think about the world we live in. 10/10 definitely recommend.
I loved this class. Lots of reading, but it's all super interesting. Assignments are pretty easy to complete if you read the sources, but the questions asked do require you to look introspectively. Professor is easygoing and compassionate. I really enjoyed this class!!!
I took Professor Tellez for winter and I love to say her work was really easy, lots of reading yet interesting. she also gives you a week and a half to submit your assignments. She gave many videos for you to study and the text books are digital so no need to purchase anything. just follow her syllabus and you'll do great!
I was frustrated with how many sources this prof uses. Honestly don't take her class because she puts you through a scavenger hunt every week with unnecessary "sources" that don't even have the information for the weekly discussions. It makes class not accessible. I'd prefer to have one textbook. Does not take late work either. Take someone else!
DON'T TAKE HER CLASS. She posts assignments late despite not accepting late work at all and assigns an absurd amount of work with inaccessible sources and vague instructions. Seriously, take a different professor for HIST 8. It's insane how much work you have to do for basic assignments due to her incompetence.
100% recommend to take this professor, we had 3-4 free response questions every week with reading and some videos. I also learned so much from this class which what was I was hoping for when taking this class. The videos really stuck and I remember so much. Great professor!!
This class has a heavy workload, but using unstuckstudy alongside the textbook can really help manage the assignments. The professor is organized, but slow on grading. Take advantage of office hours to get clarification on expectations.
Lots of learning; more writing. Weekly discussion boards, 3 page paper, midterm and final. Discussions: 5-6 in-depth questions (8-10 sentences minimum for credit). Final was killer: required so much reading, cross-referencing and analyzing videos. Do not procrastinate! She warns: min. 3 hours+/weekly. Thorough and thoughtful analysis = A+
Professor Tellez is a great professor who teaches a very applicable history class, instead regular multiple choice tests, you answer the questions in depth with evidence from the text. The only issue I had was that she said something about Project 2025 which people are divided about, and she did not allow students to discuss their opinions on it.
Professor Tellez is an amazing professor. There is definitely a lot of reading but if you push yourself , you got this . Don't procrastinate , and make sure your discussion posts are detailed . The tests are all hand written with no multiple choice. You got this !
I warn you, if you procrastinate you will not pass this class !! Professor Tellez makes you read a lot, if you take notes it will help with homework and the many discussion boards you'll need to do.
I am so impressed. This course was actually so interesting and I can see the evident interest she has with her students successes. This class, I feel, follows a format that prioritizes learning over good grades and it is VERY effective. I learned a lot and have faith that there are good professors out there still.
Relatively easy class! You have 4 questions due every Sunday about the material she provides for the week. One MidTerm. One essay. The Final Exam was 7 questions. I had 18 assignments in total. Plus, this class is really interesting. You learn about the contributions of women that historians have left out of history books.
Your grade will matter solely on short and long open-ended questions. If you can synthesize the material and write a coherent and compelling answer to each question, this will be an easy A for you. If you lack those skills, you can either challenge yourself to become better in her class, or take a few English courses first. I definitely recommend!
If you come to class every day and pay attention to lecture you will pass. Her exams consist of things she talked about in lecture, so take some notes about important historic events she talks about. Txt book is free.
If you are looking to take a history class do not take her!!! By far one of the worst classes I have ever taken. She is not a tough grader, but there is a lot, and i mean a lot, of readings. She gives an unnecessary amount of sources, textbooks, articles, and films, that are needed to answer the discussion questions every week. Dont take.
Stay away from her at all cause. She doesn't respect your opinions and will brainwash you.
I took her ethnics studies course and let me tell you... you will be reading for hours, discussions are all 8 sentences per prompt (in some cases it was 3 prompts), then reply to two class mates with 4 sentences. Overall she pushes an agenda and doesn't allow the freedom of expressing opinion. Class is an extreme overload of work as well.
Very nice professor but it is a lot of writing. Discussion post every week 2-5 questions each 8 sentences for each answer. Two reflection papers that were fairly easy and a midterm and a final that include multiple choice and writing. She gives a lot of sources so you're going to spend some time trying to find the source to answer the question.
Honestly she's not a bad professor that most comments say she is. All you really need to do is turn in the work on time and follow her instructions. She was nice enough to give me feedback on some things, but boy the amount of reading and films you watch. Overall good class.
Loved Professor Tellez! She's not a tough grader, so if you're failing, then it has something to do with your work. Her exams and discussions are fairly easy if you proofread the lecture notes and watch the video she provides. She loves it when you give real-life examples and show how much you care about the subject!
Prof. Tellez's lectures are really interesting and engaging. She does take a while to grade and post assignments, but we only had about 5 assignments total including midterm/final. I fully recommend taking this class if you're interested in learning more about women's history or even if you just need the history credit.
LOTS OF WRITING.Discussion post each week(2-5 questions/4-12 sent. each).Midterm and final were writing only, no multiple choice. She gives a lot of sources to search through to find answers to questions so you will be searching for some time.Material was interesting and she does give you enough time to finish the assignments.
I took professor Tellez 8 week in Fall 2024 and although it wasn't the best class, I got through it. There were no lectures, just reading, completing 42 sentence discussions every week and Essay tests (which I liked more than memorization tests). You should know Mla format and how to cite if taking this class. She also was a loud Harris supporter.
This course was asynchronous. It was a lot of writing and pulling from information. She was consistent with grading most of the time. she provides all the sources from books, articles, and videos. I HIGHLY suggest writing throughout the week and not just the night before. Long essay answers are the only assignments you will receive. Prepare.
