Well she knows it all so she thinks!Address her only as scholarly professor!luck
Great teacher. Really cares. Awesome class
BORING~~RAMBLING~~ Have fun taking notes and listening the know it all!
Lectures are straightforward, she loves the subject. take notes & you'll do fine
my favorite teacher b/c she makes you think and cares a lot!
Very nice...but really tough & tricky tests
she's alright... but you're missing out if you're not in the Honors discussion
If you take notes & attend all lectures, you'll get an A. Very smart & caring
Very jumpy, hyper, but a decent prof
The last test: HA! There is a word for it...it was a BIOTCH.
fast talker, concentrate on overheads, get a helpful TA, try to pay attention
have no clue where she gets the test questions???????
Very hands-off... take good notes and hope for a good TA.
Knows her stuff, but speaks quickly; good prof.
waste of time class. has no idea what she's talking about.
where does she get her test questions from, tests ridiculous, quizzes easy(TA)
beware of service learning projects, lots of work,w/ little recognition
get to know her and talk to her. she will tell you what she wants to hear.
someone needs to get rid of this woman, off in her own world, awful prof
good lectures, but hard tests...do good on the quizes
this teacher sucks, she is all over the place in her lectures. Do not take this class!
very knowledgeable but relays the information too fast in class; you must use your notes to study so make sure you go to class
Interesting subject matter, but lectures are horribly unorganized. GO TO DISCUSSION SECTION
This was the worst experence that i have had since comming to this school. Vaness is very unclear, and speaks very fast. Her tests are 100% out of her notes which are very hard. Don' bother with the book, it is useless and she doesn't test from it
Terrible, I do not recccomend, tests impossible, she sucks
Talks way to fast; jumps around topics; lectures unorganized...make sure you attend section
She is very sweet. Make it a point to speak with her sometime before or after class. You do not need to write down everything she says in lecture, she is a fast-talker. She is clear on what is important. Do not buy the book, you do not use it!
She's VERY difficult to understand! She NEVER stays on the topic, talks really fast, rambles, and she doesn't care about her students. If you need help, go to your TAs. Also, BUY the course packet even if you have to beat up the people in the bookstore.

Somewhat interesting subject, but Veness ruins the class. She talks too fast, gets off subject, and doesn't help. tests are hard and questions can come from one sentence she says in the lectures. Return your text book, study HARD,and go to class!
colloquim course. field trip to wilmington 'interesting'. but good in the end. class all discussion and nothing more. a few papers. ok course.
Very interesting, tests come from notes, tests are hard but very interesting, go 2 discussion, easy quizzes
Nice, goes off in tangets, airhead but very interesting. The only sections that are mandatory are ones with quizzes. DO NOT BUY BOOK!!!
Very interesting class. Good lectures. If you know how to take notes, you'll be fine
April is... different. She's sometimes way too smart and loses the class in the process. She's a super nice lady though, take time to speak with her. She knows her stuff, and really does want you to do well.
Great prof to work with, she is real nice person. Does ramble a little bit, but I skipped a month of class and got a C+.
She's the babbling brook. Never shuts up!! Go to discussion and the quizzes are easy points. I never went to class during the second half of semester and got a C+. Good enough.
Classes extremely boring but easy. Go to discussions, they pretty much tell you everything on the exams. And dont buy the book, it's worthless.
Go to lecture!!! Do not buy the book!! There's no point to it. Just go to lecture and take notes. Every quiz and exam is right out of the course packet and lecture. Book is simply a reference. Class is easy.
Veness is not very respectful of students; she told me I was lazy after I had spent 6 months working HARD both in and out of the classroom and everyone in our seminar had to re-write the same paper at least 5 times (each time she wanted us to do it in a different format). She is not clear, gets off topic, & changed the syllabus several times.
Horrible class, very boring. SPeaks about 150 mph and unclear. Her notes are a mess and no power points so either pay attention and right fast or your done. Dont take this prof! Tests have tricky questions
love her
Dont buy the book, maybe an atlas. Just show up to class and try to follow.
Loved her!
im an education major, and a geography class is required for my major. ive taken a few of them... they all suck, but this was actually the easiest. Go to every class or make sure you know someone who does, there is no text to refer to (dont buy the text youre supposed to, she doesnt use it) Tests SUCK, but the quizzes are easy and help your grade
This class is all writing and has no exams, but we write about the least interesting topics possible. She has also decided that future students in this course will have their first draft grades reported, so don't think you can slack on them. She's pretty nuts and talks your ear off
This class is all writing and has no exams, but we write about the least interesting topics possible. She has also decided that future students in this course will have their first draft grades reported, so don't think you can slack on them. She's pretty nuts and talks your ear off
Dont take this class unless you plan on attending every lecture. She uses overheads and not a powerpoint. she speaks a mile a minute and makes it very hard to take notes. The quizzes are somewhat easy but the exams are impossible unless you wrote down everything she said.
This teacher is terrible!! Her notes come straight from her mouth as she thinks them up which makes the notes very scattered and they are nearly impossible to study from, even if you do attend class every day--DO NOT TAKE HER!
Probably the worst professor I've had. She's disorganized and talks really fast, making it hard to take notes, but that didn't bother me as much as her unwillingness to answer questions during class. She says that memorization is below college level and then give you 20 maps to memorize. Don't be like me and ignore her ratings. Avoid the class.
This class isn't nearly as bad as people make it seem. yes she talks very fast and is very unorganized but if you go to class and write down the important stuff, you'll be fine. as for her quizzes. "omg she makes u memorize the world in 2 weeks." cry me a river. anyone who doensn't know the 7 continents and 4 oceans by now, you shouldn't be at ud!
It's true that she speaks quickly, but it's because she is so clearly pasionate about what she's speaking of, and because she wants the students to understand the relationships events have. She doesn't use a textbook, so make sure you take good notes. Make sure to study for the quizzes/tests because there isn't much else she grades. Maybe a project
This professor was great. sure she talks fast, but she repeats all the important concepts a bunch of times during a lecture and gives you multiple examples. There's no textbook but that means you have to attend class. map memorization is not so bad, topics were all interesting. overall really nice lady who is passionate about her subject
If you can think logically, then you'll be okay in this class. She does talk really fast. Be ready to take a lot of notes because there is no textbook and the online readings she has you do are pointless. She isn't very helpful outside of class either-she talks really fast even when having casual conversations. But she does want people to do well.
This class was great. As said by everyone she does talk very fast but its not something that will stop you from learning anything. No text, it was not nessesary. Go to every class is the best advice that can be given for this class. discussion section also helps alot
No book in the class. Quizzes and exams are supposed to be on notes. Very hard class. She talks very fast and very unorganized.
One of my favorite (maybe my favorite) professor at UD, and I'm a senior. The class was much more interesting than I was expecting, and she was very helpful. She wrote me a letter of recommendation for law school, even though I asked her for it only halfway through the semester. The class is only hard if you don't do the reading.
She is a very nice lady. She is very dedicated to her job but there is a lot of extra reading. She loves to talk and if you take her on a tuesday or thursday, its extra long. Easy paper grader and gives the class no less than a C. However, if you have a question, dont ask. 1 question in an email= literally 10 paragraphs of explanation. No book
I'll start by saying, you pretty much need to attend class to do well. Discussions help but only give a basic summary and not the more in depth details needed for a test. All talk, no book. I've never noticed her talk fast, but it can get boring at times. Only a midterm and a final on the last day of class.
She is a VERY nice lady and is extremely helpful if you ask. and thats why i hate to leave this comment but. this class was my nightmare. its a 100 level class, but should be a 400. It was so hard, there is ALOT of material, and it is very in depth and takes ALOT of work, time, effort, 2 exams and 4 quizzes. it was a struggleee for me!
she is the nicest lady in the world! the class was just so hard. I tried so hard and still did terrible. I have an a in every other class. Also there is no book which makes it even more difficult!
awesome professor. Came into the class thinking it was going to be all map memorization. Turns out I learned more from this class than any other class ive taken at ud. She is really helpful and explains everything really well.
She is the worst professor I have had at UD. Could not follow her in class and couldn't see her antiquated overhead slides. Also, most of our required reading came from about.com and wikipedia. I cant believe I paid to take this class. I can read these websites on my own. DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS!
awful :( One of the most un-helpful profs ever. just sends you to the TAs.
Veness was a great professor, incredibly passionate and always knowledgeable. Unfortunately she had a very loose curriculum, which required way more than simple memorization. The class is interesting but incredibly hard.
Veness is very interested in her students and she knows a lot about the subject matter. The only problem (and it's a big one) is that she doesn't get anything accomplished during class time. She just seems to ramble on and then the students are left to do all the work on their own.
I think she is a wonderful teacher. To do well in the course you just need to attend classes and go to every discussion session. She does repeat herself often, yet I think this only helps with enforcing the message. The quizzes were amazing easy and anyone who studies for 30 min. the night before the exam will do well. She also curves.
Class is not mandatory, but there is no text book. There are only four tests and they are extremely confusing. If you attend every lecture you should be fine, but its a difficult class. The one good thing is that she curves EVERYTHING, including your final grade by about a full letter grade.
Professor Veness is definitely very knowledgeable about the subject matter, but the manner in which she presents the class is very unclear. Bring your laptop to class. There is no textbook, and writing down basically everything she says won't even ensure a good grade on the test. Maps to memorize are ridiculous and tedious. She curves though.
This class is incredibly difficult. Avoid if possible! Attn ETE majors: You have to take a geography class and they are all awful, but she is so hard to understand. There is no textbook and barely any notes. Bring a laptop, it's impossible to write everything down. REALLY study maps and try to get old tests/quizzes from people if you can.
She talks extremely fast, doesn't have a textbook, and repeats herself a lot. Those are literally the only negative aspects to this class. She tries to keep it interesting by giving case studies. Tests and quizes are pretty easy. Online homework is very basic. If you go to class, listen, take good notes, and do the readings, you'll be fine.
She uses words over and over again. Hard to follow and hard to tolerate. Avoid at all costs.
Do not take this class! She is a terrible professor. I never missed a class and always took notes and studied and I am barely passing. She rambles in class and is very unclear about the material we need to know. She also talks down to us, and is constantly criticizing us. Everyone I know is failing. Avoid at all costs!
Veness is a great professor, I don't know why everyone is being so harsh on her. Out of bitter spite I guess. Don't let these horrible comments sway you from her class. GEOG102 w/ her is a great breadth req to take. Its really interesting and she teaches it really well. Just study the maps and write down what she says in class and you'll do fine.
This class is A LOT of reading and writing. I don't know how it doesn't count as a writing requirement. 5 papers, 3 of them are research papers 7+ pages. Not to mention she assigns them like a week before they're due so there's not much time to think about them. Gotta read 2 books and do discussions on them plus alot of articles. Grades easy though
I took Human Geography with her. She's alright; she's super nice but her lectures are repetitive and a bit unorganized. There's no textbook but lots of online readings. Attendance isn't mandatory but the assignments are based on the lectures. 4 Sakai exercises, 2 quizzes, a midterm, and a final. Not recommended if you're looking for an easy A.
Veness is a great professor, regardless of these comments. She really cares about her students. I've taken 102 and 310 with her and I truly admire her. She is NOT, in any way, an easy A, but her classes ARE very interesting and thought provoking. Take for group B or C requirements. This class is a LOT of reading and writing, nothing else.
I would strongly recommend that you avoid this professor.
Class was hard but interesting. She is a tough grader and isn't too clear with what she expects in her papers. Overall, learned a lot but a lot of reading and papers.
She repeats a lot of words and is also very hard to tolerate. She talks as if we're stupid. I went to about half the classes and still passed, so it's easy if you have a solid background in geography. Avoid her if possible.
I was very scared to take this class after reading the comments but it ended up being my favorite class this semester! Veness is very knowledgeable and while she does often dart from topic to topic, it's easy to discern what it important from what is rambling. Overall she is very fair and the class is extremely interesting.
A very good professor, and the course isn't that difficult if you have done all the readings she requires.
She uses a overhead projector still and is very hard to follow. She gives a 30 page syllabus with links and articles that is very unclear, but used often. Her tests are very hard and she expects you to know a ridiculous amount of information, but she is very smart and passionate about the topics. GO to the TA's review sessions. Not an easy A
Always speaks about a curve that she plans on implementing at the end of the semester and NEVER followed through with it…makes you memorize maps that she barely covers in class..TA is amazing I would've failed if it weren't for him
I would avoid, just because her lectures are boring as hell. Gives 3 exams, which are extremely tough. Sakai exercises also take quite a bit of time.
Tests are extremely tough and specific, especially if you don't have a background in geography. She gives about 45 maps to memorize that are difficult to interpret. Her syllabus is crazy long and not at all helpful. You have to go to every class and write down everything she says. She still uses a projector and goes on tangents. Avoid if possible!
Class is really boring and the exams are really hard. I showed up to every class and only got a B-. Too much material thrown at you at one time.
Class is extremely hard. She throws so much information out at one time, and very quickly. She has you memorize an insane amount of maps and information for 15 point quizzes.
Veness is a nice enough lady, as long as you don't have a direct conversation with her. Not only is it nearly impossible to have one-on-one meetings, but when you don't know the information she's incredibly condescending. Tests are impossible and not about what the lectures were on, which took up the entire class period. Would avoid at all costs.
For a simple breadth requirement course, its practically like a graduate level course. Answers for tests and quizzes are very vague and highly debatable. I would not recommend this course based on the level of reading involved. So many files. Plus the grading criteria is not defined at all. Sometimes lectures spiral into tangents that arent useful.
I showed up to every class, took TONS of notes, studied for everything, and did all of her horrible homework assignments and only got a B. Her lectures are extremely long and filled with information and there's even more extra reading to do on your own time. Lectures are interesting and she definitely taught me a lot but AVOID THIS CLASS IF YOU CAN
This class requires consistent attendance and attentiveness. There are many, many articles and maps assigned as required reading from all corners of the internet. If you take this class, keep up with reading and ORGANIZE YOUR MATERIALS. Failing to combine notes from lectures and required readings into one document will kill you come exam time.
