ummmm he is an alright teacher except the fact that he grades harshly. if you skip a lot of classes your going to get screwed over. he lets u proofread ur essays to get a higher grade. basically if u kiss his ass then u'll do well.
He is one of the greatest professors that GCC can offer. He is passionate about the topic, and the students feed off his energy. He also wants each student to succeed! He is open to helping each student on each essay. Essays are basically from class discussions and he makes sure you know exactly what is expected. Great teacher! Loved him...
He is one of the best professor in GCC. He makes the class very interesting and very easy to understand. Take his class and you won't regret.
Taking Mr. Corbett's English 102 will give you an experience u will never have in any other college english classes. The course is about Dostoevsky, and the subject is really very hard. He does not lecture a lot and wants to hear what you feel about your reading. The class does not follow usual acadamical formats. But it is Dostoevsky!!!
Passionate, engaging, and helpful. Very reasonable. I was worried because I was absent twice and late some other times (you have to go to class... he is a stickler for attendance) but my grade wasn't lowered...I still got an A. Good class discussions. I would take him again.
The most passionate english teacher EVER...comes to class everytime ready to discuss the stories fully...his assignments are easy but he is a hard grader...i really enjoyed his class...highly recommend him=]
this teacher is great...hes so nice and is willing to help you with anything.. i took him for fall 2007...he is kinda hard though...be prepared to work really hard..i got a B in his class even though i worked really hard
He's a hard grader but he's willing to help you improve your writing skills. He made English interesting. Absolutely recommend him.
He is not a bad teacher, except he seems too hard. He spend the whole 1st day of the class, explaining in 30 ways how you will not get an A. Nice and willing to help you, but he is a tough grader. If you are not pretty good at writing i wouldn't suggest him, you will work and end up with a B! very difficult to get an A in his class.
He is a nice guy and is willing to help you, however, he is an VERY hard grader!! If you want to get an A be ready to re-write and revise your papers a million times. Unless you are an exceptional writer and very analytical I would rethink taking him. He is nice; but tough!
sweetest guy in campus. the text is amazing, it really makes you think. he is extremely helpful and understanding. he is tough on grammar so beware. average grade for essays were c's and some b's.a's were uncommon and hard to achieve. he is lenient on due dates for essays and lets you rewrite and turn them in for a better grade
He is not open minded when it comes to your creativity. He shoots it with a shot gun. I do not suggest you take him if you do not live in a book. He seems like a nice guy but when he makes comments on your paper he is pure evil , no strings attached. Your ideas must be just like his or EXTREMELY supported with facts and analysis. good luck lol
Mr. Corbett is one of the smartest teachers on campus. He is hard and if English is your major then he is the guy for you. if you are looking foran easy A then go with someone else. you learn so much and have very interesting discussions. I surely recommend him. If you work hard, trust me it will be rewarded. Good Luck
eventhough i attended everyday to his classes, i did not like it. he is a hard grader who thinks your ideas has to match up with his ideas!if not then you get a low grade
Great teacher and cute too.
UHHH I LoVe Him, he is sooooooo juicy and hottt!!!!! Ramona...
Really chill down to earth guy. Very approachable and will sit down and help you with your grade.
I had him for both 101 and 102 and he is probably the nicest guy you'll ever meet. He's extremely helpful, and although he is a tough grader, if you put some time into your essays (taking his comments into account) then you should do well in the class. He returns every essay within a reasonable amount of time and always makes very helpful comments.
You really dont do anything in his class, just read poems and take quizes on the reading. You write a couple of essays and no final exam. He grades pretty hard though on his essays.
He's real nice and if he has critisism, he says it in a way not too damaging to your ego lol He tries to be as helpful as he can, giving you ideas and suggestions. I don't see what ppl mean by creativity, most times he let us discuss and talk about everything. He's also fun and social, not a rundown teacher yet, still new lol And, yes, cute. ^0^
This professor was very difficult. The reading quiz questions had very little relevance to what was actually read. He is a very tough grader. Within the first week of school he personally dropped students and then mid way dropped some more. I would not recommend his teachings.
he is passionate about teaching. the movies and readings he gave us were challenging but he let us talk them over in class and responded to our comments to give all of us ideas. i asked for help and received a lot of encouragement and support. you really gotta try in his class to get an A but it's worth it and he'll help you become a better writer.
His class is easy, in the sense that all you do is read and write but his grading is weird. He always says he wants students to write what no one else is going to write about but if you have an idea that doesn't agree with yours he shoots it down.
Ok so if you want to do well in his class you should participate often and write "decent" essays or write extremely analytical and creative essays. He definetly likes people to speak up!
Extremely helpfull. Unlike horrible english teachers, he will NOT wait halfway through the semester to assess your writing and comprehension ailities, thus he begins to help teach/coach you within the first week of class!
One of my favorite instructors. The time and energy that he puts into grading so that you can improve is astounding. His insight and passion for literature is infectious. Love him. Take his class. You will be better for it.
incredible teacher.teaches clearly and discusses topics with such passion that you want to actually pay attention.grades not too hard but definitely not too easy.when he grades he is actually putting effort into it to better your writing.picks great topics to read and write about.quick to respond to emails.great teacher, take him, wont regret it
Incredible professor!! Loves the subject and cares for his students. He is SO helpful and nice. You write alot of essays but he's clear about exactly what he wants and he's a fair grader. Class was a little boring but he bring alot of energy. Take him I'm sure hes the best english 101 prof to take at GCC
This professor is very hard to please. If your essays (always responding to stories) are perfect but not parallel to what he thinks the story your responding to was about, he'll give you a B on it. He wants everyone to think like him. He's nice and everything but he can be very tough when it comes to grading. Pretty hard to get an A.
Professor Corbett is extremely passionate about this work. He enjoy deep class discussions however it is very difficult to change his primary opinion. He's essays are always based on class discussions and reading assignments. I enjoyed his ability to be helpful at all times during class and he's prompt response to emails. I recommend him.
He goes into depth with everything and leaves little to nothing to write about and expects an essay with new ideas. He is a hard grader and takes his sweat time getting essays back. Overall he's an okay teacher. It is really hard to get an A in the class because he wants things to be a certain way and if they aren't his way you aren't right.
worse teacher i have had not willing to help students.... hard class to get a grade in. talk to much. don't recommend taking him at all. and even if trying to succeed in class he still makes you feel like its impossible
You will learn a lot from Mr. Corbett, however I can't help but feel that he has a problem with people expressing their view points. He tends to view things in black and white and when you try to show a different angle he will dismiss it. Kind of odd for a college professor but I still enjoyed his class and learned a lot from him
Professor Corbett is fantastic. He is so passionate about the material he teaches which in turn makes his class very enjoyable. His grading is very fair and he is always open to helping out with essays or answering your questions. I have no negative things to say! He is a wonderful professor, I highly recommend him.
Pretty chill and easy going instructor. He will often accommodate to make the workload easier on you. He modifies the syllabus to prevent you from having such a big workload. Very understanding and his quizes are quite simple and straight forward. There is literally no excuse to not get at least a B in his class.
He is one of the bestttt professors i have ever had!! He is very willing to help and his tests are very easy. Participate in the class discussions .
Professor Corbett is so passionate about English, making an english class enjoyable. It is an english class, so get ready for some papers. But he goes over them slowly (rough draft, peer review, etc). And he's there for you when you have any questions at all!
He is so boring, the entire class is just a talk with him and students about the material read. So if you're shy, you wont pass. He's also expects you to write about what he says, if you go off in your own thoughts you're immediately punished for it. This is a critical thinking class not Ara thinking class, save yourself the trouble& don't take him
Took him in a short session and I can say that he had planned everything out in a way where students weren't stressed. Enjoyed his class. Highly recommend.
Mr. Corbett is an awesome teacher. He is always willing to help students and his lectures are easy to understand. His responses are short and as long as you do all the work and reading you will get an A. He keeps you engaged and gives take home final at end of semester.
Good man. Great teacher. The key in his class is to do the readings and writings on time. Do not skip classes or you will miss important info and could have trouble catching up. Likeable guy, great sense of humor. Also had him for English 102. I was surprised because I found a lot of authors I liked and read more of their stories on my own.
This class looks like easy but it is not. A lot of personal issues involved. I don't recommend.
Took him for Hum 105, he's a great professor. Very clear, very helpful. I really learned a lot. Got an A in his class.
Awesome professor. Really opened my mind to different perspectives. Class is straightforward, and he's a very lenient grader. There's not much notes in the class because he explains things so clearly. Really no excuse to not pass this class
Professor Corbett is overall a hard grader but if you give it your best and follow all his guidelines then you'll be ensured to do well in his class. Make notes from his lectures of what he likes seeing on papers and what he doesn't because this lets him know that you are paying attention in class and incorporating what you learned in the writing.
He is an okay teacher, with a basic lesson plan. The readings are very boring and the essays are the same.
His lectures are really boring, but not because of content. He tries to be really upbeat, but the way he speaks is kind of drone like. Reading is Mandatory! There were a lot of chapters from the book and lots of quizzes to go with them.
Professor Corbett is a great professor who really wants his students to do the best. His passion for the subject is clear and participation in class discussions can earn you extra credit at the end. He isn't an easy A but if you do all the work and listen to the feedback he gives, you can do it.
Hands down one of the best professors I've had at GCC. He really devotes a lot of his time grading each essay and making sure you're aware of your mistakes. This class involves a lot of work in order to receive an A, but if you do all the assignments, and score good on the quizzes from the readings, you'll do just fine. :)
Best Professor Ive had in GCC ! very passionate , veryyy veryyyyy helpful ! highly recommended .
Professor Corbett is a really nice guy and he legitimately loves the works, but he doesn't stop talking and his class lasts FOREVER. Beyond that, he doesn't allow for differing narratives; he subconsciously herds you into completely agreeing with his point of view. His class is structure less but he's an easy grader. Lots of homework & reading tho
Ara Corbett is a very smart professor, however he expects EVERYTHING YOU DO to be his way or its the high way... super tough grader
One of the greatest professors at GCC. Very engaging lectures and discussions. I took Humanities 105 Honors during the summer. Lots of reading is required. However, as long as you keep up with the workload and contribute to class, you'll be fine. Highly recommend you take the class.
Took his class in the summer and it was doable. You have to read 2 novels and there are reflections for the readings. Plus a group project and the final(in class essay). The class is mixed with cinema and human struggle. I thought it was a good mix and enjoyed the class. Do your reading and you'll be fine!
Mr. Corbett by far is my favorite professor at Lacc. If you have the chance to take him for 101 then do it without hesitation. It's a English class, don't take it if you are going to complain about reading and writing. That's the point. His does give assignments obviously but they aren't hard. Just remember to participate because it's important.
I AM SO LUCKY TO HAVE FOUND SUCH A DEVOTED ENGLISH PROFESSOR IN GCC. HE IS SO PASSIONATE ABOUT ENGLISH, HIS BOOKS ARE V ERY INTERESTING. SHOW UP IN CLASS, DO YOUR HOMEWORK, AND USE THE FEEDBACK HE GIVES YOU TO IMPROVE YOUR WRITING AND YOU SHALL PASS!
He's a good guy, but his classes can be boring. He loves teaching 102 so he's always in a good mood for class. There's lots of reading and writing and pop quizzes on the readings that he has you do. If you love poetry then take his class if not, you'll be really bored. He's willing to help you when you ask for help. He's good but a little boring.
Great teacher! Might hype the reading content a bit but the good thing is that his required text is like 10$! He's homework is easy & he helps you out if you reach out to him. Totally recommend him!
Professor Corbett teaches with passion, I never found his lectures boring. His homework is based off of great films. The quizzes and final are based off a good book, and aren't tricky. He follows his syllabus, so his class is very structured. He is very easy to talk to, and is always understanding.I highly recommend this class, you can get an A!
He's an amazing teacher but I would not recommend taking his English class during the winter. He gave us two papers that are rather hard to write and considering the semester is so short it really stresses you out. I do recommend him though, he's very passionate about what he does and his class is really interesting.
Very funny and inspirational professor. Extremely passionate about the material he teaches and he wants you to really dive into the elements of the material you go over. Be very specific and descriptive in his essays. Write something interesting and hell love it and award you with good grades.
His lectures are insightful & sometimes funny. He's very helpful during office hours, and if you're stuck on something, he's got your back. You have to do the assignments in advance because if you procrastinate, you'll definitely not pass the class. He's one of the professors who actually give feedback and will tell you what you should improve on.
Such a passionate professor. He makes all the students speak and express their opinion. Very straightforward about papers and what to expect from the class. Very nice personality and always eager to help all the students to get good graids.
I was taking him for winter but decided to drop. He is an extremely tough grader on essays. Most of the class got Cs on their essays and half of them were honors students (its a combined honors class) He marks you off for expressing your opinion and wants you to write what only what he wants. Not even my actual English class was this annoying.
Pretty tough class in a short session. His essays were not difficult topics, but he was a tough grader. I liked the films and books he chose for the class. We had a total of 4 essays, an in class final, plus 3 books to read ín five weeks. I would have preferred to take him in a regular session. Cool professor though.
Passionate professor but such a tough grader. I really enjoyed his lectures and discussions. He gives you good feedbacks and always willing to help. I would recommend taking him if you are really good at writing essays.
Contrary to popular belief, he does NOT mark you down for writing new ideas. I write my own interpretations in all of the papers and got perfect score every time. As long as you dont miss any detail (even the tiniest ones) and support your ideas, youll get an A. You can tell that hes very passionate about the texts. Highly recommended!!
He broadened my mind and cinematic perspective. He loves participation. He's very charismatic
Passionate, entertaining, and time goes by relatively quick. However, on the first day, he emphasized on being counterintuitive. Intuit nature will be graded to be poor, most of the time. I'd take him if you're more into observing details, instead of expanding on your own ideas, patterns, or narrative.
worst professor I have ever had in my entire life. gives terrible feedback on any paper you turn in. comments on papers do not make sense whatsoever. DO NOT take his class.
Do. not. take. this. class. We are halfway through the semester & EVERY SINGLE PERSON IN THE CLASS HAS A C. He doesn't give any clear guidelines as to what he wants for his essays. U turn in ur final draft, he returns ur paper with a billion comments that don't make any sense. You revise it & basically change everything, yet you get the same grade.
It was only halfway through the semester and all student in his class expecting C. So tough grader, does not matter what is your idea about the paper, your ideas must have to match with his one, otherwise get ready for the C and D.
Mr. Corbett is amazing. He welcomes all ideas whether it be in an essay he assigns or when it comes to discussions about the readings. He encourages his student to speak their minds. As long as you watch the movies he assigns and read the books he gives you, getting an A is not impossible. I would definitely take this class again if I could.
Really nice professor! No textbook just a novel, pretty cheap. Pretty easy class just do your work and youll get an A
Chill and relaxed professor. His work isnt hard its mostly just using your creativity. Just show up and do your work.
Criteria is clear, do what you are told and you will be fine. If you dont have the patience to read, good luck. Tests and papers are based off of books and movies, read/watch them if you want a good grade! Also pay attention to what he says in class. Dont be afraid to ask questions he is glad to help. He also likes students who participate.
Professor Corbett was a great teacher! I would love to take him again. You must read and do the work to pass. The classes are heavy on discussions so don't be afraid to speak up in his class. But I learned so much and would recommend to anyone willing to do the work to take him. He has so much passion for the books and movies that were assigned.
this professor is GCC's gem!!! I definitely recommend him for anyone who is taking humanities!! I never thought a zoom class would work for me but he makes it sooooo easy!! get ready to read long pages but believe me his quizzes and homework are so fun and makes you want to do it. MAKE SURE YOU PARTICIPATE!!!! this is half the way to your A!!!
Really passionate teacher, but be prepared to write papers every week about very vague prompts. Some of his assignments are worth little to no points, so if you miss one it impacts your grade by a lot. Make sure to participate during lectures !! Allows you to resubmit revised work for a better grade. Wouldn't recommend if you aren't into writing.
Had him for my summer course to kill some time and I think it was well spent. He is one of the most passionate teachers I know and is here to help all of his students out. He is a tough grader (average grade is a C). If your ideas are not well thought out he will chew it to shreds. Participate, be thoughtful, and you will do enjoy the class.
Do not take his class! The grading does not make sense! will ruin your academic report
His appreciation for all things literature is contagious. If you don't love reading, you will.
