Very interesting discussions in class of todays relevant events. Take good class notes because he takes a lot of the test from it. A lot of reading. Very helpful and easy to talk to. Great class!
He's probably the best political science teacher you'll ever have in college. He lectures on what is in the book then relates it to contemporary issues. Take his classes!!!!! They are the BEST!!
He is very nice and cute (for the women!!!!!!!) I really liked his class, and he is funny ! still we have to work hard to pass ! good luck !
Professor Hessami is an excellent teacher. His clear and evident command of the course material allows for the student to comprend the material with more ease. His class lectures are the perfect complement to the textbook. Professor Hessami is passionate and inpirational about teaching and it shows!
good teacher.
I took this class because I was interested in the subject matter. I now become stressed just by thinking about it. Two extremely hard tests and one huge paper. He is also very hard to understand and is apparently always right. He teaches the class as if it were at Yale, not MC. Iranian Republican.
gREAT cLASS
good class, but its kind of hard to take him seriously since his voice and linguistics bear a striking similarity to Maurice Chavez, the crazy guy on the spanish station in Vice City
This professor was extremly disorganized. He caused students to be behind schdule from the start. His grading had mistakes in it and was inconsistent. Hard to understand in audio, and slow to reply via email, infact did not reply to some messages.
This man is soooo gorgeous. MmmmmmmMmmmm. Good teacher, too.
Great Professor
AWESOME

Hessami is only incomprehensible when your an idiot. And idiot is not one who doesn't know, but one who doesn't want to know. Hessami is perfectly clear, except people are typically to indcotrinated to admit tothinking like an ass. His tests all have the same gimmick, he says something in class, and he wants you torpeat to him in the essay. EGO!
He is the bomb! very informative class and and very exciting too. easy guy.
Very good professor, sometimes confusing, he can bounce around several topics and lose his point. Best to take his philosophy class before going into political ideology.
I did well by reading and taking notes. I never went to him for help but Im sure he would take the time to help his students. He is very passionate about the subject and makes the class interesting. My class was a small lecture type with online quizs. He expects students to contribute their thoughts and debate subject matter. Are you Capishing Me??

I took his ideology class and it was amazing!! I love him and his class. He has a diferent way of teaching but if you pay attention in class and keep up with the reading you will ace the class. Highly reccomend him as a teacher.
Not an easy A, but very rewarding. He's very passionate in his lectures, and it makes it a wondeful class!
He was a great teacher and he kept my interest. Although, he wasn't an easy teacher he was very helpful and clear allowing me to understand theories very easily. By far he is the best teacher I've had all year.
He's a fantastic professor! He explains things SO well, and he knows what he's doing! If you want to learn something, then I highly recommend taking at least one of his classes. I even signed up for another one of his classes, and I'm looking forward to it!
Hessami is a great teacher who is passionate about his subject. I liked going to class just to hear him speak. Paying attention in class is important: TAKE NOTES! I think anyone can do well as long as they put the effort into the class. But if you need help, I think he's a bit hard to pin down after class and may not give the extra time.
This class is a MUST for anyone interested in political science. I normally HATE waking up in the AM, but this class made me want to get up. As long as you read (most of) the book, learn the vocab, and attempt to pay attention in class (which really isn't difficult), you'll get at least a B. Also, be prepared to ask questions about the reading
Western Political Thought - great class, great professor, very knowledgable and interesting - only take it if you like the subject, and you like thinking
He's a nice guy... but I didn't particularly enjoy this class. I found it a major pain. It felt like he jumped all over the place with his lectures, making him hard to follow. I suppose if you really love political science you'd love thinking about the questions he asks, but I personally didn't.
Surprisingly fun and engaging professor. He comes in and says "Any questions?" and teaches around your question. Tests are a little awkward, but his teaching style makes you want to attend and do well. I thought he was really cute too! ^_^
Prof Hessami is an extremely intelligent political analyst. His definitions of concepts, philosophical questions and unique perspective on Politics will motivate you to think. Take his class.
The tests consist of one or 2 essay questions, so if you dont know the answer you basically will fail the class. Speaks very fast, and not always clear at times, his explanations will only confuse you more. If you are a structured learner who likes study guides and in class notes, this is not the class for you!
He's not the typical textbook professor, but he is genius. Probably the most brillant teacher I've ever had. His class made me think a lot and everything he says is confusing but in a good way. It's inspirational and motivating.
Take this class if you want to hear about this professors personal life and his egotistic feelings.
Very engaging! Make sure to stay on top of the readings! His tests are based on a combination of the reading material and his lectures so also don't miss class-he points out the really imp. stuff during his lectures. Ask questions and make sure to ask about the significance of your terms!
Hes a tough grader, he just lectures. He doesnt use the text, the only good thing is that for the first test he will give you a chance for a revision.
He just doesn't know how to teach. Although he has knowledge of the subject. His classes are impossible to consume for a regular student. His first comment was like "Drop my class cuz u not gonna pass" Make ur conclusions ppl...
He is the best professor I have ever had! I love the way he engages student in the course. He is passionate about what he is doing and makes you feel passionate about the subjects to. If you do the required reading before the class, attend the classes,be active you will be in a good shape. DONT HESITATE- HE IS THE ONE TO TAKE CLASS WITH, YOU WILL
Overrall Hessami is a great teacher. I took his winter session class and it was more than fun. Take Hessami if you want a libertarian point of view.
Pay attention in class and read and you will get no less then an B.
One of the best teachers I've ever had
Been set too high on his tower, just because he speaks on the radio. Talks way to fast, impossible to get a hold of either by email phone or appointment. Lots of reading, little graded assignments, but don't expect help or explanations from this prof.
makes you think out side the box. superb teacher if you like political sience like i do. if your not into political and philisophical stuff your not gona like him
this guy is so awesome!
Prof..Hessain, da best prof in mc...he is just soo cool and helpful...funny...take him, u wont reget it..I was always concerated in wateva he said, because he knws his subject and partial because he is sooo hot!!!:)..hessaim is jzt cool prof..although he talks continuously for 2 hrs, u wnt be bored! nd he lets u re-do the midterm exem..Take HIM!!!!!
Dude teaches strictly lecture. You do the reading, people ask questions on the reading, and he does his lecture based on those questions.
This guy is too smart for MC.....He should be teaching at MIT!!! This class is 100% textbook reading. You do the reading, people ask questions on the reading, and he does his lecture based on those questions. FYI: His hand writing sucks!!!! Its like scribble. you might have to take a second or two just to figure out what he just wrote on th
Take his Western Political thought class. Its pretty hard but very very very LEGIT!
o godd...i do not know where to begin with this prof. he was reallllllly smart and knew all the material very well, but if you are used to the conventional way of learning..with notes and stuff....hes NOT for you!! everything he teaches you is based on your questions and he teaches like all over the place...i personally thought he was really hard!
Please avoid at all costs. The class consisted of a midterm paper, midterm exam and final. Only for political buffs, even then, just avoid!!
Grades hard, expects you to read the book. I didn't and still got an A but I know a lot of people in my American Government class struggled. I don't think they were ready for a "real" college class. He knows his stuff and if you are interested you will learn a LOT.
Any class you take with Prof. Hessami is not going to be easy. But its not hard to get an A. He's a very socratic proffessor so going to class is extremely important. You have to be into what you are learning, its never going to be a piece of cake. Focus on the readings and not the Text book as much. You have to make sure you take a lot of notes
Very Good Professor. Clear and to the point. He is curious about what people know, and wants everyone to understand. VERY SMART and his class is not easy, you must pay attention and take a lot of notes. It is very obvious that he is passionate about his subject and it translates into a good understanding. PAY ATTENTION TO HIS DRAWINGS AND DIAGRAMS!
Hessami is the best professor I've ever had, hands down. Completely changed the way I think about politics and the world around me. TAKE A CLASS WITH HIM. It's not easy, and his teaching style is all over the place, but his class is a fantastic experience.
Prof.Hessami is like no other professor. His philosophy class..AWSOME!..you def. need to use critical thinking if youw want to pass any of his classes!..but overall, his classes are very rewarding because he def. knows his stuff and makes you analyze and applied concepts rather than reading and memmorizing! Two thumbs up!
One of my favorite profs. He lectures but the class is very interesting and he encourages questions. You have to know your stuff to do well in the class (READ) but he makes the lectures/discussions interesting so you would probably want to read.
HESSAMI is knowledgeable and a brilliant political scientist. His class discussions are extremely interesting, mostly because he applies political science to world issues. I've taken 3 classes with him. He is no easy Professor, but he helps you use and apply critical thinking. If you're a Poli-sci major you MUST take a class with him. Make sure to
Dr. Hessami is the reason why I decided to become a Philosophy major. He is simply brilliant. Reading the text and assigned excerpts are a MUST. His classes will challenge you to think. Classes are based on questions, not the traditional 'PowerPoint and Fact' circus show. This guy actually requires 'thinking' if you want to get an A. Totally worth.
He is one of the worst teachers in the world.
always right... or so he thinks! the other comments about him being all over the place and disorganized in his lectures are all true. He's helpful if you go meet one on one with him though
just one thing: Read the book that is the only thing u need, also critical thinking is a Must
Only take him if you are good with abstract thinking and no layout or structure to the lessons. He is very intelligent, but hard to understand and he will go off on a tangent like no one i've ever met. If you need order and clarity, take another prof.
His method of teaching is different. He doesn't give you any lecture notes. His teaching method is you ask him questions & he lectures on it. You have to read! You will be lost if you do not. Overall great professor & insightful. I got an A but that is because I read & did all the work. The exams are not hard, but you need to study. Great Professor
This teacher does nothing to accomodate students. He is very rude and confrontational when students ask for clarification and help. I have wasted my time and money and I regret taking Hessami's class. Hessami gives quizzes on content that he did not even teach. DO NOT take his class he is not a good teacher.
His method of teaching was not useful for me. For one test he asked us to write about something that was not even in the textbook or lectures.
He acts like your not supposed to ask questions. He seems very immature. Instead of being there to teach the students he gets defensive when students call him out for his lack of clarity.
I enjoy political science. I have always done well in the class except for when I give a lackluster effort. He never responds to emails and he doesn't help prepare you for exams because He doesn't make them until the morning of. The final he lied to what was going to be on it. He is unclear and boring and discourages participation. he sucks hard
He didn't know our names. That is a sign of a bad professor. His class is SO boring because he beats to death the same things and doesn't ever change anything. he scribbles on the board and expects you to understand. I've NEVER been right in his class only, "not quite". DON'T TAKE
He doesn't teach like a normal teacher, but I think his method was interesting and good. He is like most doctorate teachers, kinda disorganized, but passionate and loving of their topics. He changed many of my viewpoints and opened up a world of knowledge. Very good teacher, as long as you can read scribbles and always read the text.
Handwriting isn't the best, but he gives great explanations, the lectures are interesting, he has a sense of humor, and is passionate about his subject. Not always crystal clear on assignments, but overall he is helpful if you ask.
I being an organized person was bad with this class. He is very disorganized and has bad handwriting and expects you to know what he is saying right away. Got a C because my grade was made of 3 grades in the semester and I didn't fully understand the assignment and he didn't clarify. Do take him!
Everyone hates on this guy, but I really enjoyed the class! True his handwriting isn't the best, and he's from Iran so he has the accent, but overall a very funny and nice guy. Not totally organized, but brilliant! He knows his stuff. Take notes on pretty much everything he says though. Overall just show up to class and take notes you'll do fine.
This is professor that turns the learning experience on its head and challenges you hard. He is brilliant and his command of philosophy and history, and his ability to illustrate his points objectively are impressive. Best class I've taken in college. Bad Point: Worse handwriting you could ever imagine.
Hes really blunt and direct and may offend some people but he is brilliant and a great lecturer. Plus hes a hottie with a body
Without a doubt one of the best professors I've ever had. He's got a great sense of humor and has no problem being blunt. I genuinely looked forward to every lecture; he's brilliant. If you have a problem with attendance or reading, don't even bother taking the class. He may not require you show up but his exams sure do. Definitely recommend.
You have to pay attention and ask questions or you won't survive. Graded on midterm, final, and 1 paper. Tests aren't too hard if you read the book and listen. Paper guidelines are vague. Hard to talk to him outside of class, but in class he's very clear. If you're willing to work for him, you'll be fine.
He is one of the most brilliant professors I've ever had. Some people complain that his lectures don't follow the typical college structure that most other professors use, but I think this is a testament to how knowledgeable he is. He forms his lectures around the students' questions
Smart guy, funny, but lazy. Barely has any office hours and half the time he won't even read the assignments you turn in. He expects you to put hours into the class but doesn't put in any effort himself. I spent so much time studying and had an A, but the exam had NOTHING to do with what we learned in the semester so I got a B overall.
Great professor. I had him for a long lecture and he kept the class’ attention the entire time. I would highly recommend him.
This professor was awful. Of subject matter he is very smart and his lectures were precise. But his communication awful. He is condescending.I am very disappointed. He did not stay on schedule, 5 week condensed summer course. He changed the syllabus MID semester and added 4 quizzes plus lengthened the final paper by3 pg!Ends in one day no exam post
Awful teacher. Made mistakes in the course and blamed the students. Refused to review with students as promised in syllabus. Changed final paper from 2 to 5 pages. Posted the wrong quiz for one section. Audio files for course we're not current they even referenced questions ask by another class.
This class is a challenge. I recommend that you take a philosophy course prior to enrolling in PS121. Dr. Hessami bases his lectures on questions from students, so read the material and come prepared to ask questions!
Hessami is definitely smart. Having said that, his grading is rigid. You must read the textbook otherwise your grade will suffer.
He is quite a good teacher and I've learned quite a lot. But the way he grade exams is crazy. Exams themselves are not difficult but there are certain details he wants for the answer and if you don't give him exactly that, you'll be screwed, he won't even care what else you wrote. That rule applies for the paper too.
on the first day of class professor Hessami told us that even though this is a 100 level class "he doesn't teach 100 level classes" and the difficulty reflected that sentiment. PRO- he is a smart professor who will give a much more in depth background and view of the material CON- he can be a little insulting, so you better have thick skin.
This class was perfect just out of high school. Taught me how to deal with a combination of complex material and a bad professor. It changed me as a person. Professor Hessami is a conundrum, just like his teaching style. Dude showed me how to NOT rely on a professor. A good thing in the long run. I learned a lot, but not from him.
Overall could have been more concise in giving us a guideline for what to do. Felt lost most of the time when studying because I was never sure what would be on the exam. I've also had your western political thought class before and the papers taught more and were much more precise in instruction.
Not the best professor, smart for sure, but vague in what he wants from his students. Exams had no guidelines or study guides that could help. The papers were also unclear in instruction and direction.
Cool teacher interesting course. Needs more graded assignments.
One of the few classes that has changed how I study and how I think. A hard class that will reward you if you put in the hard work.
Smart guy horrible handwriting
Really hard, but if you can keep up it's good. Be prepared to get a bad grade at first.
A very smart professor, but he's very vague in what he wants from his students. Exams had no guidelines or study guides that could help (he doest have notes or ppt, talks are about current events). The papers were also unclear in instruction and direction.
A very enlightening college experience. This was the course that inclined me towards majoring in Philosophy. Lectures are fast paced but very entertaining and easy to follow. Attendance may not be mandatory, but reading the assigned material absolutely is. Professor is a liberal grader and very willing to help if you show any enthusiasm.
The definitive course to take if you want to learn how and why political systems come to be. After this course you will not only be a better thinker but also understand the essentials behind contemporary politics (and realize how poorly your friends do). Assignments will challenge you, but since the point is to learn, retakes are often an option.

Amazing!
He is the best , he is the sexiest and most brilliant professor I've ever had. He is the BEST .
He is the best professor everrrrr !
Pretty good.
Despite having high standards, Professor Hessami is understanding and is willing to work with students to ensure that the work they turn in is the best they can be.
Taking his class would be your investment. Hessami is real with you, knows how to interact with his students, has the hugest storage of knowledge in his head and has a ton of experience to offer guidance and advice for his students. This man means business!
Taking his class would be your investment. P. Hessami is real with you, knows how to interact with his students, has the hugest storage of knowledge in his head and has a ton of experience to offer guidance and advice for his students. This man means business!!
Professor. Hessami's lectures in Political Ideologies were very thought provoking. His class allowed me to gain a better grasp of the political world, in which I hope to build on in the future.
He is amazing. If you take the time to do all the reading you'll be good to go. I'll definitely take his class again it was worth the investment.
Because lectures are mainly guided by the quality of students' questions, preparation is crucial. This is one of those classes where you need to allow yourself days to make sense of the material and really sit with it. While he has several office hours available, it gets discouraging fast when he keeps bailing on them.
He is a very tough grader and expects student too much! This was the only C in my entire life. I would not take him again at all.
He is a very tough grader and expects students too much! This was the only C in my entire life. I would not take him again at all. No study guide for the exams! No clear grading criteria
You learn a lot in his class. He obviously knows his material. However, he is a tough grader and is not clear on what he expects. Involvement in class and working hard will not help, if you get a B on the paper and don't do well in his ridiculous exam, you will get a C in the course.
Everyone should have the chance to have such a worldly professor, knows his stuff, very interesting lectures, always making things relevant.
Took on line and there was no direction. He would not post items to get to and fell behind, so the last 4 days of class I literally had 4 quizzes, a final, and a paper due. He posted audio lectures but NO interaction with on line class and NO feedback. The final was a joke.
This was an on line class. He gave very little direction, no personal interaction with the students, not good at answering e-mails, no feed back on your quizzes. Not a good on line professor. But his grading was pretty easy.
Probably one of the worst teacher's I've ever had. No one has ever less deserved a PHD, much less a classroom. He failed our entire classes midterm without so much as writing a word of why or how on a single paper. People here seem to think he "knows his stuff", he doesn't, it's an act put on for community college students who don't know any better
This was the hardest class I've ever taken. I read every night like he told us to but whenever I asked a question he said he couldn't answer it. He also doesn't give an explanation for his grading. He knows his stuff but he's doesn't help you know it and makes you feel inferior for not knowing.
If you're a slacker. Don't take this class. If you actually care about PS and want to learn, this class is for you. Take the time to read to book, take notes on it and then take more notes in class. Yes he is a tough grader, but he wants to make sure you truly understand the material. If you've taken philosophy this class will be much easier.
Good lectures, in depth study into the topics of the class. Difficult tests and assignments.
Professor Hessami knows his stuff, but seems to think he is speaking to an audience of his peers rather than community college students who might never have taken a 200-level class before. His lectures are fast, with brief pauses to ask 'any questions?' or 'you get this, right?' to his bewildered class. Do not expect praise just for 'having a go'.
Just... Don't do this to yourself.
He is very knowledgeable about the subject but can be a bit difficult to follow at times. Definitely need to read the materials to do well, and since there are only three graded assignments for the whole semester (the midterm, an essay, and the final), you need to do well.
This class was a lot of fun, but be prepared to take notes during his lectures, and read all of the text that is assigned. and the things you learn will be really interesting
Very good professor. Knows his material and is very good during lecture.
Great professor knows what he is teaching , very flexible on essays , nice professor but dont take him for granted
Really good professor. You need to read the material to understand what is going on in class. There is a lot of reading and few grading assignments .
Essay prompts are vague. Only had 3 assignments the whole semester so you need to work hard. You NEED to do the readings. Lectures are all over the place and a little redundant, but they're still very informative. Overall, the class is really what the students make of it so be prepared to ask questions!
After reading some reviews here I was a bit anxious about taking this Professor for my International Relations course. But it turned out really nice! Professor has a very exceptional method of teaching: he doesn't overload with homework/quizzes, but requires students to read and critically analyze the chapters, and answers all your questions!
He knows his stuff and will give you a lot of extra credit opportunities. Just make sure you read!
be prepared to read the chapters and ask questions.
If you really want to LEARN and STUDY, then definitely take his class. If not, then do NOT take it.
We have 3 grades, the midterm, the term paper and the final exam. Take the readings and the class very serious because if you don't and you mess up just one of those assignments then your grade is toast.
he is a nice professor
Knows the content, and is very good if you actually want to learn new facts. Wish he wasn't such a tough grader, half the class failed the midterm, although he does give you chances to get your grade up. Would totally take another class with him if he didn't grade so harshly. Only assignments are two exams (including the final) and an essay.
Get ready to read the textbook. He's a great professor. The only reason I wouldn't take his class again is that I'm not a fan of his teaching style, but I did learn a lot in his class. I found his grading to be fair.
Get ready to the textbook like your life depends on it.
Read the chapters, coming to class is a must, relates the course with real life situations in the world. Very informative. I recommend everyone who is a Political Science major to take this class and also for the students who have a different major it will give students a perspective and information on what Political System is through out the world
Good teachers just wish he had lecture slide to review after class as a study tool.
All of the classe were lectures without a use of a powerpoint of other visual aid. He uses class time to disccuss and answer questoins about assigned reading, so readings are a must if you want to enjoy the class. He has a great sense of humor which made his lectures intereresting and engaging
Professor Hessami is probably the most interesting lecturer I've had. His enthusiasm and humor make even the most sense subject matter very palatable. He's an incredibly tough grader, but is easy on revisions and extra points. Never took roll, but missing even one lecture was very detrimental.
He is very well spoken and delivers the material in a way in which each student will know what he is talking about. You have to be prepared to actually read the textbook, because that is what he will discuss in class, essays and test.
Dr. Hessami is clearly knowledgeable about the course's content. He structures his lecture based on student questions so students should always be prepared before coming to class. Although he doesn't take attendance, you WILL be at loss if miss one of his classes! He is a fantastic professor who forces you to become engaged in class and to think
Aram is a genius professor who loves to make you think critically
Good class, I just wish to have some lecture notes
Only notes are what he writes on the board so if you are someone who needs material to be clearly spelled out, take another prof. Doesn't really care about you or your grade but he is a good prof. Or at least does the bare minimum to be a good one. Will help you out but you have to ask, it's not offered. I'm happily taking another class of his.
Dr Hessami is a very good professor and his lectures are very good once you are able to understand his various diagrams.
He knows what he's talking about, in terms of IR, but what he wants out of his students are very vague. He can get kind of sidetracked when he uses a lot of examples.
The Professor makes sure you take notes, but his board handwriting is much to be desired. It is difficult to decipher what he has written, leaving most of the studying to the text, which he loves to ignore for notes that the book doesn't cover. If you miss out on those details he gives you, you will forget and they will appear on a test.
tough grader, but reasonable, really funny and understanding and laid back, participation is important,
Great choice! He's a little odd sometimes but I like the fact that classes are open panels and always tries to steer student's opinions towards the topic.
Very text-book oriented. Lectures are based on what is on the reading assignment. So the quality of the lesson will be based on the question asked by the students
Amazing professor but expects a lot out of you. He's a genius and I've learned more from him then any other professor ever but again his class is very difficult. If your up for a challenge you'll really get a lot out of this class.
I highly recommend this professor to those, who are critical thinkers. The professor is full of knowledge. It is important that he knows how to express his valuable information to students.
I took this class as elective in the summer and i really enjoyed it. I don't understand the other students complaint regarding this class. he is a very easy grader and most of the class probably got As. Not to mention I did learn alot. The only downside is he has horrible unlegible hand writing.
I'm insulted to pay for a class taught by such an impotent and incoherent individual. I've never encountered anyone less deserving of a PhD, how he obtained one is beyond me. Hessami is frequently late to class, can't complete a sentence, illustrates with stick figures, no tests, extremely lazy, losses papers, and so much more. (3.6GPA TAKE HEED
Hes one of the best professors who Ive ever had.
I had the opportunity of being in his class. It definately was helpful because i learnt plenty of useful information which will be helpful in regard to my future career.
Interesting course but you have to previously read a lecture before each class.
Dr. Hessami is a tough professor, there was only three grades and he expects a very específic answe to his questions with no study guide. However the answers are all in the book and the notes just have to know how to apply. also he is really good at making sure all questions by students are covered and included
Tough grader with few assignments. Book heavy.
Have a little background about the course he tries the best to explain materials but students might not be used to his teaching style so make sure you are reading to study or read hard and come to class with questions.
Does not come with a lesson plan for class
Dr. Hessami is here to challenge you to critically think. It is hard, but Ive learned more in this class than I have in any other class Ive taken Im my college career. He has amazing lecturers, and the readings are always very important. Thanks Dr. Hessami.
He's well prepared but he is a hard grader. Pay close attention to whatever he goes over during class and take good notes. Also make time to do your own research (Google) about what was discussed in class because the book will not help you on exams. Listen carefully to his instructions and ask him questions for clarification.
Hes one of my favorite professors at MC. I like the way that he teaches. Through participation in his classes, I learnt very well about the basic principles of political philosophy.
If you pay attention and do the readings, you will learn more in Professor Hessami's class than any other class you've ever taken. You only have three assignments that make up your grade for the whole semester, so you really need to know the material well, and there's a lot of material to know.
The class difficulty depends on the effort of the student. All learning resources are available and the key points on each reading are well explained in the syllabus. The only professor I have had that truly makes you think critically.
His lectures rely on the students reading the material and asking questions that he can answer, there are only three grades, a midterm an out of class essay and a final. However, there are opportunities for you to improve your grade and get extra points. The exams are based on what was in the readings and learned in class.
His class will teach you so much about the way the world works. Paying attention and taking notes will help retain so much. Missing class means you missed a good chunk of information. Critical thinking is mandatory in this class.
I think without a doubt one of the best teachers I've ever had in my entire life. His lectures are always interesting and are always based off of students' questions on the readings. He challenges students to think critically, which is key on the essay & exams. Also taking good notes helps wonders for the exam. He is also an avid fan of pound cake.
I took his POLI 206 class and loved it. There is only one paper, and two exams throughout the course. His lectures are great, and very engaging. A lot of people think he's tough, but he's actually very kind, and is willing to answer any questions you have. He's a great professor to take if you're serious about learning politics or philosophy.
Amazing prof. Lectures are engaging but requires you to read the readings beforehand. Makes you think in a different way about politics, very open-minded & funny. The class is hard only if you don't keep up with the readings but the readings aren't bad.
great teacher. very knowledgable and gives helpful feedback. the class is a lot of reading and isnt as hard as some make it out. as long as you do the readings youll be fine.
The Best Professor to ever do it. The reason I decided to major in politics. Intellectual class and requires a lot of reading. I would not recommend him to anyone that isn't passionate on politics or philosophy. I still attend his volunteer lectures. Exceptional teacher!
Doing the readings are important but being in class is even more important. You probably won't understand the text but he explains everything in class if you come prepared with questions. Don't expect an easy A but definitely expect to learn.
He's a good professor and explains everything in class if you ask questions, but if you don't do the readings you will have a lot of trouble. One of the ways he teaches is by the basis of asking questions, so be sure to ask a lot and you'll definitely get a lot out of his course
great professor, has a very modern way of teaching. very knowledgeable & makes you think critically. if you dont think critically, keep up with readings or ask questions then you wont do well. wants really specific answers to his questions (think critically)
Mr. Hessami is one of the best social sciences professors at MC-Rockville. In order to ace his two tests + one paper, be sure to read/follow his requirements very closely. Otherwise, you'll learn a lot from his class and point of view.
very intelligent teacher and even if you arent a polisci major, he makes the student really interested and excited about learning political science. you learn a lot in his class but you really have to keep up with the reading. he expects a lot from his students but understandibly though. quirky prof.
amzing teacher but exams are hard. i guess thats only because you have to take good notes to do good on the exam. but overall very good teacher, lots of reading but so worth it.
uh the dude gives hard, specific work but damn if this isn't one of the best classes I ever took, I learned a bunch, it was so hard tho only take it if you're willling to put in work, but also it was great
Teaches correctly; explains what you don't understand and makes sure you fully learn what he's setting out to teach you. An affinity for pound cake is also a plus!
The material was very straight forward but the class was disengaging. The professor's directions were sometimes unclear and point deductions were arbitrary and a bit outrageous. He was also pretty non-responsive (very rude.) His in person classes might be great but do NOT take him online. It's awful.
This was my second class with Dr. Hessami and I am gutted that there is nothing left for me to take. Western Political thought has profoundly changed my life, and the way he teaches by Socratic method is a guarantee that you will learn a lot from him. The readings assigned are original, which is also appreciated. He's the best teacher at MC.
Taking an online class with Professor Hessami was very difficult. Online class resources are of low quality and are not updated until the last minute. Best way to pass the accelerated online class is to watch 24/7 for pop-assignments, as he will not schedule them. Do not criticize his methods, as he will give you a bad grade out of spite.
Overall the course was terrible didn't reply to emails nor give feedback on work. I dropped the class because of his lack of communication. He is an extremely tough graders with no feedback. Sending us samples of other students work isn't proper feedback.
Best online Professor. He provides additional audio files and feedback on discussions. He responds to text messages as soon as he receive on the time indicated. Amazing Professor!
Overall Professor Hessami is a good teacher. He really knows his subject and answers questions asked in class clearly. Reading is mandatory. If you don't read you will fail. He is a tough but fair grader and really makes you think critically about what you are learning. He mostly talks in his lectures and doesn't use any slides so pay attention
He really knows his stuff but there is only 3 assignments and he is not very helpful with assgiments.
Listening to this guy's audio files and youtube videos is like watching a bad episode of drunk history. At the very least those are funny. He takes off so many points and gives vague feedback. Any comment saying hes good or the best prof that MC Rockville has must be mixing him up with someone else. Get rid of this dude
I like his class. He makes you think a lot with the questions. His explanations are really good. Just be prepare to write a lot and Be very mindful with your answers.
This man is silly with his on the floor antics. He uses the Socratic Method of teaching. So always ask questions. For his class you have to do the reading requirements and must come to class to hear his lectures too. I learn so much from this man and after I took his class I became a better critical thinker. It will be tough but well worth it.
Aram is a tough grader, but his classes are amazing. If you pay attention and take good notes you should be fine.
Tough grader but very fair. Be prepared to read and take plenty of notes, I would recommend tape recording his lectures and listening back later as he is a very fast talker and not very cohesive. Overall good professor but could be a lot more coherent while lecturing and more specific in the syllabus.
This teacher was one of the worst I have ever had in my academic career. Turned in all six of the required papers and ended up failing. I have a 3.6 gpa and have never failed a class. When I asked for feedback he just said to read and I would understand. His feedback was vague and demeaning. Stay away.
I don't know what his class is like in person but DON'T TAKE HIS Poli105 ONLINE!! The reading is easy and the lectures informative, but there are essay-based tests practically every 3 days. He is very picky grader, gives NO feedback, and gives a timed 40 minute, 50 questions final exam that is stress-inducing. I barely made it out with an A.
If you are taking this class such as elective, forget about it. You will have quizzes asking you to define political terms. Trust me, to receive full credit, one political term should be defined in many pages essay. The book has almost 400 pages, and you will have to read it. There is no relation between your final exam and the quizzes.
Best professor on earth when it comes to philosophy and politics, if you don't like authoritative learning then don't take his class because lectures are heavy and there is a right answers to good questions.
He is a really great professor who cares about his students and what he teaches. He puts in a lot of effort to make sure everyone understands and is open to any questions. You have to read everything he gives in order to do well. His lectures are really interesting and thought provoking. 10/10
While attendance is not mandatory, you should be aware that the classes themselves are the most helpful tool you'll get to understanding the text book.
Professor Hesami is a great teacher. He gives very good lectures so that the students understand the material. If I could take the class again, I would definitely take it again with Professor Hesami.
Do not take him he's terrible. He did not teach a thing. He simply had us read the text and submit weekly quiz responses. Does not provide a study guide for his final exam and it's timed. When students asked for a study guide he simply said "read the chapters". Sorry but reading roughly 200+ pages doesn't help my honors courses were easier.
Ok heres the deal.. You need to read the text book if you don't you will fail. You need to answer each test precisely, this is not an easy credit course, he will not hold your hand, be ready to put in the work. If you are OK with what I just said you will pass the class.
Hessami is often opaque regarding exam/assignment guidelines. Basically you're on your own. But his curiosity and enthusiasm are infectious. One of the few professors who motivated me/prepared me to progress in my education at MC.
As long as you read the textbook you will do fine, that is, if you survive the textbook - that thing is deadly. Super interesting class though, and you can tell that the Prof really loves what he teaches. Make sure to come to class with questions and participate if not you will get roasted. Regularly review the material to do well. Good movie recs.
Dr. Hessami is an expert in the field of International Relations. You 100% should read the textbook, and I'd recommend making a list of questions while reading the book -- you'll need it for the lecture. These lectures inspired me to pursue international politics and study international law. If you have the chance, record them for future projects.
You need to read the textbook and ask questions during class. If you don't ask questions he thinks you didn't put in the work. Hes a tough grader on his quizzes but is exceable during the quizzes for clarification. His quizzes can be based on his lectures given in class so make sure you understand them.
Professor Hessami knows what he is talking about. He is definitely a liberal and his political views slip into his lectures but he doesn't impose them on you. For the quizzes, if he says write a short essay he means write a short essay. If he says describe in detail he means describe in detail. If you do that you'll pass. Overall good professor.
He tends to talk in circles, no clear train of thought. participation matters. Weekly quizzes, but just paraphrase the chapter in the textbook you'll be fine and he's available to help. The class isn't such a big time commitment.
Easy to reach outside class hours. A few audio lectures really need to be updated to something more recent than the mid 2000s. Lots of writing, but nothing particularly difficult.
Dr. Aram Hessami reminds us that education's purpose is much more than job security. His course taught me how to think critically. He provided tools to question our social-political world, while inspiring the curiosity to ask. If POLI221 were mandatory, I believe our political discourse would be more genuine, intellectually serious, and just.
ATTEND CLASS. Has great lectures but speaks fast and from memory. Take notes on how he defines vocabulary because that will be on the exams. Read and take notes on the reading assignments. Only graded from 2 exams and 1 paper to write. Didn't seem to have any bias to any particular ideology so learning was objective.
Professor Hessami was great! I really enjoyed his class and I learnt quite a bit about several ideologies. However, his lectures are a bit hard to follow sometimes. But as long as you read the textbook, you should be fine.
As long as you can define, describe, and state the significance of things you will do well on tests. Make sure to write down the definitions of things when he says them in class because they will be on the tests.
He is a tough professor and grader but has the knowledge to help you learn about American Government. Everyone's experience is different. Make sure to take notes, show up to class, ask questions and reach out for help if needed. Complete the textbook readings and follow along with his syllabus. It'll make all the difference if you do!
Take notes! I had 50 pages of digital notes that I will carry over to other courses. Bring questions and read the textbook. Challenge the textbook and his ideas -- his lectures are Socratically constructed and require critical thinking. He doesn't use PowerPoints, so notes are as valuable as ever. I'd tape record lectures to prepare for the exams.
I took his Poli sci 203 class and it was bad. The two main things are he is bad with communication and has no structure to lectures or the course. He never makes announcements there. He will tell you in class but do not take it for face value because he changes his mind a lot. He has no real syllabus or a plan. He is not very organized.
I took his Summer 1 POLI203 class and even though it was accelerated I really enjoyed it. He gave very good lectures (through recordings as it was distance) and was easy to get in touch with. I also really enjoyed doing the assignments, and he puts out the best answers for each exam. You will need to take down a lot of notes, but it's still great.
Hessami isn't a bad person, but his teaching style is insufferable. He has no structure in his lecture, just scribbles on the whiteboard.
While this was a distance learning class, Professor Hessami mostly posted prerecorded lectures and assigned readings each week. Sometimes, they were posted a bit late, the lectures were in audio format with attached slides, and sometimes, they were vague. However, his lectures offer another perspective, which is great for overall learning.
Extremely disorganized with arbitrary grading
Don't take him unless you really have to. He is an extremely tough grader. Not organized at all. Not clear with his grading criteria. The quizzes are NOT multiple choice, they are all written assignments. Basically, weekly essays on the topics. If you do not site the textbook properly, he will automatically deduct 50 points from your quiz.
He is a decent and knowledgeable person but not good professor. I suspect he once was a more effective professor, but time might have taken its toll. Not organized, with arbitrary grading that takes forever.
The modules were simple enough, but he is very disorganized and unclear on grading criteria and also the instructions were very inconsistent for the final term paper. He says texting and calling is best but he is not responsive no matter what contact method you use. The textbook teaches you the most and all quizzes were written, no multiple choice.
I don't recommend taking his online classes. He wasn't accessible outside of class when I tried emailing him. His grading was tough and unpredictable, and he didn't provide feedback for the grades which was even more frustrating. The final exam was timed for 40 minutes and had 50 questions, it's not enough time. Pick a different professor
- Responded to my emails ONCE in 13 weeks - The textbook teaches you, not the professor - SAQs for chapter quizzes - Poorly written instructions for assignments - 40 mins for 50 multiple-choice questions on the final exam - Uploads incorrect quizzes and gives 0s to those who don't complete those incorrect quizzes - Save yourself and don't take him
Such an interesting class. It is really important to take notes and be present of course but the professor knows the material really well and makes the lecture memorable and enjoyable. If you interested in politics I would definitely recommend it!
Best Class I ever took. if you are interested in the political field I would definitely recommend Aram Hessami. He knows the material very well and you will gain a lot of knowledge and perspective from the course
I'd absolutely take this professor again. The class feels like a true university course. Attend every class—exams are based more on in-class whiteboard notes (more like doodles) than the textbook. Participate actively and ask thoughtful questions. The professor is very knowledgeable, but don't expect grades to be regularly posted online.
