She should take an english class. Doesn't speak nor understand it very well. Doesn't listen. Goes off on tangents in class for HOURS, HARD HARD TESTS! All this combined with a VERY poorly laid out curriculum, TAKE ANYONE ELSE!!!!
Completely disorganized, lacks focus, difficult to understand. WANTS to be helpful, but is ineffective. Massive amounts of course work. She wastes huge amounts of time each class, then keeps everyone late.
Everything they say about this teacher is true. You will have a hard time learning with her.
Don't listen to these crazy people! She is so sweet! She cares about her students. If you don't understand her, it's because you aren't listening. She is very helpful and understanding. If you can't hack the schoolwork than steer clear of Hollywood!
Prof. R. is AWESOME!! She is super professional, incredibly intelligent, & cares about what she does. Always on time & clearly explains things. Consistently available to make sure students succeed. If you're a serious student, she'll show you the way.
Cool teacher. She does seem a little bit lost at times but she is always ready to help you if you need her. Her class is pretty easy as long as you do the work.
I was very interst in take the class before I meet her.. Then I tranfer over to the Broadcast Dept.. There is a engish Clarity issue and use of class time..She means well but should need to learn how to Teach and Lead..and enjoyy input from others.
FIRST OF ALL YOU DO NEED TO GIVE THIS TEACHER A BREAK SHE DOES NOT GIVE MASSIVE WORK A COUPLE ASSIGNMENTS A MIDTERM AND A TEST AS LONG AS YOU COME TO CLASS AND TRY YOU WILL DO FINE JUST SIT AND LISTEN BUT YES IF YOU ARE TAKING A NIGHT CLASS YOU WILL ALWAYS BE THERE UNTILL THEY END BUT SHE IS NICE K
Probably one of the easiest classes you will ever take. Course requires consistent attendance to class lectures and almost no course work. Grade is based on one midterm and one final, including one oral group presentation. Take it for an EASY A. One thing is for sure, she will not let you out early.
Overall she means well but... Tests are easy. Not too much homework except a paper and group project. Sometimes it would take a while for her to get the class started because she had difficulty controlling the class. Sometimes held up the rest of the class while she got people to shut up.
Warning do not take her classes unless you really have to. Go with Swelstad I have taken both. She means well, but unless you are an expert before taking the class you will not understand her catalan accent. Also the class ends at 10:45 if not later. It will not be rare if you stay after 11 at night. TAKE HE ONLY IF SWELSTAD IS NOT TEACHING THE CLA
Okay will everyone leave this teacher alone! Class ends @ 9:50 not 9:45,& she doesn't keep you past that, she doesnt let you out early either. Attendance is a must, 1 midterm and final, along with a paper and a couple of homework assignments. Not a big deal. Midterm and final are not hard at all. Aside from her funny accent, pretty easy class.
Very nice professor! She does keep you till the very end of class and covers a lot of material in one night so attendance is a must. Had 1 final and 1 midterm with a few assignments in between. No complaints on my end!
A strict bureaucrat. Criticizes for the sake of criticizing. Assigns busy work often. Not recommended.
a good professor all the way through. she will go over things if you don'y get it the first time around. yes you have to attend every class because she covers alot in her lecture. but probably my favorite professor.
i love this lady and her funny accent shes the bomb. she always makes me feel good even when i answer wrong. Her class is laid back few tests and assigments very easy if you want to be there!
She often treats students like babies, as if they are too stupid or irresponsible to learn without tons of structure and rules. She is married to rules when they hurt learning and creativity. I would suggest avoiding her classes if at all possible. She talks about grades and tests incessantly as if this is all that matters.
Great teacher. Very organized and strict. A little bit of a bureaucrat but once you get past that she is very nice. She tells you about everything that will go wrong with your project and repeats it until you are sick of it. But, it's for your own good and she really cares about making everyone's project the best it can possibly be.
She tends to treat students like little kids and seems to like giving them a hard time. Fails to properly articulate the subject due to lack of communication skills. However she does knows cinematography pretty well. The class is four hours long and she will keep you there the whole time.
very weak communication skills (terrible accent), too self-confident, scares you of hardness, but easy as long as you are able to understand her and take the notes like a sound recorder. possible A. the class is always 5 minutes over whatever posted in the schedule. Good Luck
Not for the faint of heart. There is ALOT of work, 3 texts you have to bring to class, you will be leaving early, she is hard to hear and understand, if you're not good with accents. But if you are serious about filmmaking, you will learn.
She is very easy and gives us every oppertunity to get an A in the class. I am retaking the course aftergetting a D with Daccurso and am currently getting an A in the online class. She is really sweet and cares about her students.
If you like being tortured for 4 1/2 hrs a week take this class. She is rude and does not like student imput. Asks if there are any questions and then acts like you are bothering her. She would rather listen to her own voice all night. Makes what should have been a fun class a total nightmare. Very passive aggresive. Avoid if possible
By far the easiest course I have taken yet. It is on-line and she is super easy. Not a great instructor but not too bad. She can give a crap about her students and although, I have been at City College Cinema program I must say that she is terrible compared to the Professors there. At City, they actually care. Here at Valley you can get an Easy A!
I love cinema and felt that this teacher kills that passion with her condescending behavior. She is knowledgeable, but her accent is distracting. She runs her class like a gulag, and has been named Il Duche (Named after Benito Muselinni - Hitler's Italian counterpart) If you love cinema, then please do yourself a favor and skip this class.
The worst teacher in the history of bad teaching. I don't know whether I'm in a cinema class or ESL. She should learn English before "trying" to teach at the college level. She is lazy about grading papers. The one upbeat moment was when she had a guest speaker. Made the class worth attending. Bottom line is, she is terrible and ruins the subject.
I took her class online and boy is she easy. All you have to do is log in and participate. I am getting an A as of right now and I did not even buy the book. Just google all the questions for the test and you will pass with at least a B on the exams.
She is an excellent Professor who really cares about her students succeeding in class. Tests are made for dummies and just ask basic questions. I took her a year ago and it is actually one of the only easy A's I have ever gotten. I too did not get the textbook because she tells you everything that will be on the examination before the examination!
this teacher should quit teaching before she drives someone insaine! she has a horrible accent. you ask her a question, she asks you to ask her some other day and when you do you get the same response. she was one of the worst teachers i have ever came accross. she yaps away so much even when she has a movie playing, its like shut up already!!!
I took her for cinema 105 and 107. In class, she is actually harder and more annoying on-line. On-line you really do not have to hear her annoying voice nor go to any class that she just rambles on and on. I got an "A" in cinema 105 but 107 I am hoping to get at least a "B." Way harder to take in class. Attendance brings your grade up a lot! Easy.
I got an A in her class with relative ease. I never bought the textbook and all I did was actually listen and watch the films in class. She is very helpful and easy. I disagree with the comment before mine, I think her on campus class is exceptionally swell. However, I never did take her online. If you can get past the accent than easy class.
I thought the book was required, not recommended??? She is really laid back. Coming to class is optional and all you really have to do is participate and ask questions. Sometimes she is nice and sometimes she is really rood. Overall an easy A. I got a lot of help on the assignments from the book but the tests do not really require studying the text
Since this is an intermediate class dont expect it to be the easiest class in the world, at times you may not understand things because of an accent but shes always open to questions and is very helpful so this shouldn;t hold you back.3 tests and 3 assignments, pretty easy class and if you pay attention you will learn a lot, notes>book
Class is 2.5 hours of taking notes nonstop & then you get to watch portions of TV shows/movies. We did not see an entire episode/movie the entire semester. Has a heavy accent & can be hard to understand. No book, all notes & there were items on the test we did not cover. You must sign in and out each class & you will NEVER leave before 10PM.
super easy class. took it online got an A almost no work. i wish we had studied more recent cinema but it was a lot of the beginning of cinema
Horrible teacher, wastes a lot of time, can't control the class and then makes you stay late. Will NEVER let you go early, even if she is done teaching. Accent very heavy, hard to understand. When you ask questions, she telss you she will go over your question "Later" and then never does. Learned more about history of TV than aethetics.
The class I took was online. You don't need textbook for this class. The material to study is all online(in etude portal). THis class is an easy A if you do all the works including her special credit assignments given out each week. Go for it and add another A for your GE classes.
Not a very good professor. Does not make the material comprehensible. Very vague, on what to study for the tests as well. In short don't bother with her, shes just not a good professor. And I'm almost entirely an A student so don't second guess as a disgruntled slacker.
Great professor, take notes, study and participate and you will do well
I have taken Many classes with her and enjoyed all of them, she cares about her students and if they are understanding the material. If she says she'll answer your question later and doesn't ask again and she will. I have never had a problem with her accent and the people that do I think don't grasp what she's talking about to begin with.
Taking online version, prof is very flex & chill. Movie content is enjoyable, luvin' it. Very engaging due to historical roots & cinema. No complaints, is everything an online class can be. Two thumbs up. :-)
This is one of THE best online classes I have taken. The subject matter is the best, prof is great, no complaints. Two thumbs up, highly recommend. :-)
This class is a well rounded general introduction online class to cinema-- very gud class. Prof is a very nice lady, subject is interesting and entertaining. This is a MUST online class, will not regret, highly recommend. :-)
A heck of a teacher who knows her stuff. DO NOT be absent from this class because comprehensive slides are shown almost every night of class and they can help you for the test. She's isn't keen on giving study guides before tests, it is her plan to treat you like an adult meaning that if you don't study you fail her class. Got a B, but not easily.
Great online class. Interesting assignments and movies. Professor is good and understanding. The tests are long though but not hard 100 ?s but the quizzes prepare you to do well on tests. Just participate on discussion and do well on tests. Best online class for sure!
I've had her for a couple classes and generally liked her, but she can be EXTREMELY rude and condescending. She ripped my project apart, didn't have one good or nice thing to say about it, but did not criticize other students' work the same way. Extremely rude person.
She loves movies and she shows it in her class. But unfortunately that is clouded by the lack of organization. I thought the class would be based on the book and lectures but found out there was an online component.I learned a lot but certain things frustrated me. Read the book and take notes in class and have a great memory and you will pass.
Well structured class. 3 exams with extra credit. one paper in two parts with potential to improve grade on first part when demonstrating improvement. Three online exercises. Extra-credit for online participation. Online component includes practice quizes and study guide modules. Class has screenings of the subjects. Instructor is very helpful
Production class for 1 minute movie. 3 exams, and production materials. Lots of fun. Great professor - always available to help and provide assistance. When my movie was on life support after my talent left halfway through shooting Prof Rodriguez helped me pull off several miracles to save the movie - very generous with her time and support.
It was a fun and tough class! I have taken the cinema 101 class and the 115 soon. I must say she is a very nice professor. She will assist you whenever you have problems. I learned a lot from her class and it was an honor taking her class.
I took her online class, i was really excited at first due to the fact that this was my major, however she is completely unorganized, constant spelling errors on timed tests and overall random questions from the text, which was already a bad text book as is, i was really disappointed at the class and lost most of the time.
Prof. Rodriguez is a highly knowledgeable. motivating and helpful instructor who's passionate about what she teaches. If she has any drawback is that English is her second language so some idioms are occasionally lost on her, yet she is very accomplished at teaching in English
Great Professor!! I took her course this summer & enjoyed it, shes extremely knowledgeable and understanding,This class can benefit for the sociology majors also, I highly recommend her to anyone.. TAKE HER!! :)
Great Class! Took the summer course. Professor Rodriguez is passionate about film and it shows in her teaching. The films she choose to screen were diverse and helped in learning the material required to know. I enjoyed her lectures as well. I highly recommend this class to anyone interested in Cinema. This is not brain surgery people!
While her intentions are good and she is passionate, she is unorganized and her information is outdated. She does not give out correct information that is currently relevant
She avoids answering questions when she doesnt know the answer. does not like to be corrected. wastes a lot of time, can't control the class and tmakes you stay late. You will never leave early, except when she rarely gets sick.
Honestly, you did not have to buy the book for the online class. I passed with an A thanks to Google in the Spring of 2013. If this is your major then I suggest not taking the online class.
I took her for summer of 2013. It was great, really easy, and I enjoyed the films we watched. She had a huge selection to choose from. I completely recommend taking her for summer. One 2 page essay on a film and the exams are based on the book and the movies.
Fun if you like cinema. BIG TIP: Her final is on the movies that you watch in class. I had no clue, didn't pay attention and knew nothing on the final. Still received an A+ in her class. No hw. I had one paper and half the final was a take home packet. Very very nice professor. Attendance is 100% mandatory, signature taken at the END of class.
horrible class. waster an entire semester in here and at the end of the semester she had lost 3 out of 4 of my assignments. i spoke to her and told her how i didn't have the assignments she handed back and the essays were saved on my old computer and she gave me no sympathy even though she was the one who screwed up. really dislike her do not take
Worst class ever. I didn't learn much. She ask questions regarding the lecture and that is how we learn. Everyone would constantly get answers wrong so there was hardly any point to participate. She spent way too much time answering questions that we not necessary. Overall nice teacher but not a great class.
Professor Rodriguez is really nice. But thats really the only positive thing I can say. Her tests are 100+ questions and they are repetitive and don't always make sense. The information she teaches is outdated and boring and especially in the 3 hour class it drags on forever. We watch useless clips for half the class and the other half is boriiing
I had 4 classes with prof.Rodriguez: Media101, cinematography, editing, and directing. Her teaching is very clear, and organized, very helpful subject matters. she always has time for her students kindly, even after late night classes. What I can say about her is she loves teaching and spreads her love and knowledge with all her energy.
The clips, resources, discussions, and passion to introduce as many films/directors to students is met with a key learning technique of "viewing" the material during the time it was made. (It's a HISTORY class; be prepared to drink in the black and white. No Transformers!) Rodriguez is accessible, helpful, and really wants her students to learn.
Rodriguez covered and gave a decent refresher to all the material that you take in other classes. Exercises were designed to train you to think like a director. Two guests came into class very helpful. Rodriguez even made herself available to give assistance to students, including myself for feedback, taking Cinema 123 that she was not teaching.
Prof Rodriguez is passionate, thorough and extremely knowledgeable about what it takes to be a director. She is so helpful too. She makes learning fun and cracks jokes that help you understand the subject better. This is a class based on theory on how to work with actors, crew, and producers to achieve your vision as a director. What a great class!
Reading the book is extremely helpful but if not just make sure you come to her lecture and take notes. She is very helpful if you ask her or make an appointment with her.The assignments are very easy,so don't overthink them! Just do it. 2 writing assignments I actually did a day before class and got full points. Open book for 20 min during final.
This was the first semester for this class and I can only imagine the next time it is taught it will be even better for the lucky people that will be taking it. Rodriguez is dedicated to helping her students learn, and if you attend and take notes, you should have no problem passing with a good grade. Expect film clips from across all film history.
A lot of her exams felt like trick questions because of misspellings or information that was not consistent with the book or lecture. A majority of her feedback or comments online came off as patronizing; it is if she is too use to talking to students fresh out of high school. As an adult, it bothered me. Not a bad instructor but just average.
While her lectures tend to drag on and her instructions can be somewhat confusing at times, overall I'd say Rodriguez does an excellent job of teaching her class. The course consists of 3 tests and a two-part research assignment. There aren't many tests but they are tough. STUDY! Overall, it's an easy class if you're willing to put in the effort.
This is an exceptional class if you want to learn the differences between various film genres. The class is a must for anyone who wants to work in the film industry. Rodriguez is passionate about her students and the film industry. Make sure to read the book and pay attention to her notes in class to pass the tests. She is an excellent teacher!
Her 101 is the same as MA 118? Rated G only. Painful to go through the last semester. Ended up going to another college in order to get some other classes that don't require her standards of teaching. Not much hands on with anything that not on a handout or text book. Very little time with actual software or cameras unless you want to rent or buy.
Good editing class going over the fundamentals of editing theory and Final Cut 7. Instructor designed course to ensure we had lots of practice time. There are only two projects that are required in editing, and you will learn or in my case re-learn Final Cut 7. It was a good refresher. Rodriguez is always available to give feedback and talk.
I took her class in 2015. The only difficult thing about it was her accent because sometimes it was difficult to understand specific words, but just ask her to repeat herself and she will. she doesn't have a strong accent, but once in a while there is a word that I didn't understand. Other than that such an easy class.I suggest you sit at the front
Professor Rodriguez is a helpful and passionate filmmaker and educator. Her experience in the industry is such that you feel fully confident that you are learning the appropriate material to prepare for higher-level classes and a career in the industry. She is patient, sweet, and caring to each of her students.
I've taken a total of five classes with Rodriguez, and in comparing this class, it's perhaps the hardest of them all. With that said, the professor will help you get to your A, and attendance and participation for C 101 counts in a big way. It is a lab class, despite being 3 units, so be prepared to learn a ton of information, and have homework.
I had the opportunity to take the first section of "Diversity in Cinema" at LAVC, and Rodriguez brought her usual charm, lectures, and format to a great class that should appeal to both Cinema and Sociology majors. Rodriguez appreciates participation in class discussion, and will drop the lowest score of three exams. Lectures are key to passing!
Why do they let one teacher monopolize the only Cinematography class? Disappointed about the lack of collaboration and teacher disengagement. I passed the class and then went to shoot a project several months later and was embarrassed to realize I didn't know what the ISO on the camera does. Four months wasted. Would not take again.
Prof Rodriguez tries to be helpful but the way the class is run makes it difficult to learn. There are no in class camera or audio exercises, only written homework leading up to shooting a one minute movie. required to edit on IMovie 6, not the latest version. My project ended up overexposed! Would have benefited from hands on learning. Skip it!
Tyoical for a community college cinematography class. Spend more time doing paperwork then shooting, had a student who does a web series teach the practical exam - not quite clear what his role was and very little direct access to equipment. Prof Rodrigruz is pretty clear on her expectations but that's the only thing I can say about this class.
Not sure what to make of this class. Took it awhile back. Had seen the movies made previous year (didn't realize Rodriguez was not the teacher) and was impressed. Some lighting and camera exercises. Felt I could have learned more. Final projects came out okay. The teacher can be helpful but you have to really hound her. Okay class - not great.
First class we sat around talking about editing - the teacher is constantly asking the students question instead of giving answers! Becomes confusing back and forth after awhile. Would prefer a clear definition. Lab hours are irregular to practice on Final Cut 7. Later heard from other students that this par for the course. Could have been better.
Easy A. Not sure why the low reviews. Piece of cake! No practical knowledge of camera or audio required - just doing storyboards and taking a few tests! You don't have to know to know lighting or screenwriting till 115, shot my project on my IPhone and edited in IMovie! Fun class. Prof Rodriguez makes it hard to not pass the class!
Editing class on Final Cut 7. Project one is student documentary that has to be edited in Lab but Project 2 is an episode of White Collar that is not copyrighted so can be edited at home? Teacher can be a help but often refers students to lookup the answers in the text book. show up to class because labs hours are irregular. Ok class.
Very long class. Four hours in the evening with non-stop lectures. The schedule says lab but it's all theory and on the board. Teacher is hard to understand and can be condescending. She asks students questions instead of answering them or refers you to your text book. Difficult to learn - not an easy A by any means.
MA 118 is a theory class - not a production class. You will not work with cameras, actors or create a final product to go on your reel at the end of the semester. Activities are the same as in Media Arts 101 - marking scripts, floor-plans, ect . . . you might as well just take Media Arts 101 and get to make a movie during the semester.
Cinematography is not my strong suite, but apparentely it is not the teachers either. She can be rude and condescending. She also assigns groups and is unable to manage them. Way to much fighting. Your group can litterally destroy your grade. If the person responsible for the camera in your goup isn't on the ball entire goup loses a grade.
Not a good teacher. You will not learn how to write a story, how to time your 1 minute movie for accuracy or any of the real pre-production work like call sheets, scheduling, test days. You will not learn to use a camera in class or audio. Your project will have poor technical quality and teacher will blame you for her poor teaching.
Rodriguez is good at teaching non technical classes like history. Go to LACC though if you want to actually learn something. I read some of the reviews and they're pretty accurate. Very condescending. Shouldn't be teaching anything to do with cameras.
Allot of reading. Make sure you take the Cinema 101 section of this class, enrolled as Media 101 and had to get a section transfer because Only the Cinema sections transfer. Basic class - no practical demos in class though - all theory. Passed with a transferable grade but again make sure your in the right section to transfer to a four year.
A number of difficulties - tests include misspellings and abbreviation of filmmakers names. Some questions were subjective, the teacher considers Fred Astaire to be a filmmaker. Also tests are strictly timed online so once they start you can't stop. You have to challenge the teacher on her mistakes or you won't get credit.
Lectures are four hours long. The lab time is all lecture and talking about technical - no practical demos. Very long class. Teacher can be hard to understand. Often answers questions with questions and tells you your wrong. Tells students to look things up in the book. Shoot a one minute movie with no camera experience whatsoever. Long class.
Teacher give extra-credit. Probably to make-up for the bombardment of technical information that unless you already know the camera comes at you like a tidal wave crashing down. Teacher does have an accent that can make lectures difficult to understand. You will have one day to shoot your project and have to get teacher permission or you fail.
Unusual teaching method. The first assignment is to write a one minute story but not in script format so you have no idea how to time it. Teacher suggests reading it aloud and using a stop watch to time it - not the most help. Has a thick accent in a four hour lecture class - that goes on and on. Very unusual class.
She is the most challenging professor I have ever had. Her classes are pretty lecture heavy which I wish could be different. But she deeply cares about her students real world success. Tons of work. But her multiple choice tests make it easier to earn a good grade. READ YOUR BOOK. Your grade is affected by attendance and participation as well.
Not really sure what the class is for. All theory and no practical directing activity - you don't make a movie or work with actors. Even the exercises use a movie from the 1940s, why not something from present day? Felt like a waste of time.
I found her to be a good profesor and would definitely take her again. For cinema 107, she gives us all the notes through slide show, so just copy them down and study it and you'll do good, so the book isn't really necessary, but if you really want to learn material throughly, I suggest reading it. And near the end, a paper analyzing a film.
Media Arts 118 is a very heavy lecture class for the serious film student, that focuses on Directing Theory. Road to a good grade: Don't miss more than two classes (this is a once a week class), and participate in discussion! Do both, and tests are a breeze, and the papers very light. Rodriguez is a fantastic and caring professor, who has heart.
Not sure why we even have this class. It's media arts 101 without the cameras, doesn't transfer and the professor uses a movie from 1940s! Couldn't we learn from today's movies about how to do today's movies? It's a very outdated class that also doesn't involve any working with actors or production. Kinda pointless.
The class can be an easy A, but I didn't like the teacher. She could be rude and condescending at times. Had difficulty hearing and understanding her - thick accent. The class is not movie watching either - there's alot of boring talking. Glad I'm not a cinema major and was only taking it for a GE.
If your a lower income student this is not the film school for you. Theres no equipment, no help and no support services. This professor suggested that I network with other students to borrow their personal equipment if I didn't have my own. Why should other student's let me use their expensive camera? Not state of the art like they pretend to be
Media Arts 101 is not in CSUNS matriculation agreement! They don't tell you this. They do not do in class lab time or camera exercises only lecture and the schools website is wrong - there is no equipment available to use for your projects. You must own or rent equipment. professor can also be snappish and rude. Skip LAVC, take the class at CSUN.
Discussions were constant. But you can make things up and get a great grade. The tests were meh, some were kind of difficult but overall you use the modules to find the answers. She drops the lowest score of all the tests you do take so do great on 3 of them and fail one you'll do fine. She responds pretty quickly and is understanding .
Took her online I would again but online she gives extra credit which was great I was behind , just get the book and do the work before the due date .
Wonderful lectures! Prof Rodriguez digs deep into her lecture material, even distinguishing between Kammerspiel and German Expressionism. There a few tests and a few papers and she will answer questions about the test material even upto right before the test if your confused! Tries to screen as many movie clips as time allows. Highly recommend!
Prof Rodriguez is an excellent teacher in her lecture classes. Enjoyed how much material she covers and her willingness to go over content. Would take again.
This class counts for IGETC and is a required elective for all the media arts certificates! I ended up dropping it last time to focus on other classes and regreted doing so. Prof Rodriguez is in her element teaching all the amazing and often overlooked contributions of women and minorities to film. So happy they are offering it Spring 17!
No patience and not very inspiring.
You are graded on participation. She loves having you give input during her lectures. Write down everything she talks about, it's on the test. When she says "hint, hint" put stars next to that, it will for sure be on the test! Easy A if you attend class, participate and study for the tests. I learned so much in this class! I loved it!
Professor Rodriguez is a very diligent, knowledgeable and skillful teacher. She knows her cinema subjects. Her lectures are very thorough; she likes class participation and input from students. She makes you THINK.
Online Class - It was alright but I was not blown away or felt like I learned a whole lot. The discussions barely count for any points which I found odd. Not difficult class and you can drop your worst exam grade. She is nice though and she really loves film.
I love Prof Rodriguez! Yes, of course you must be ready to use your mind and participate in her classes. I took Cinema 103 - Diversity in Cinema. She is very knowledgeable and respectful in the way she speaks about the subjects she covers. Not a lot of hw, but studying for the tests is a must. Anytime she says "hint hint", it will be on the test.
Skip her. You either really like her or really dislike her. You will know first day which group you fall into. I had no trouble in class, but the toxic atmosphere between students who like and dislike detracted from the learning environment. Had to study alone. Tests and papers are college level. She does make extra-credit available on tests.
Stressful. Do not take this and General Eds at the same time. Class meets twice a week but only worth three credits! Low enrollment with possible cancellation AFTER semester starts. Mandatory - You have to get green light to shoot your project. Students kept not getting green light over minor things. One day to shoot. Take it at Pierce College.
Cares about her student passing her class she replies to your messages if you have any concerns/questions, always posting on the website to make sure ur on track even reminded us of the assignments all the time. She allows multiple options for E.C, allows you to drop one of the lowest test grades, read the book/modules and do your discussions!
I took her Cinema 105 class online and it was very easy. She's really nice and helpful too. You have 3 tries on the quizzes and no time limit. You just need to read the modules as the quizzes follow her modules and not on the book. Some people bought her book but it is expensive. I didn't need it and still passed the class. Take her if you can.
Professor Rodriguez was one of the best teachers I've ever had. Her class was challenging but it was worth it. She is so caring and patient and really teaches the subject matter. I will definitely be taking her again.
Took her for Diversity in Cinema 103, and I have to say it was a blast. Lecture was simple and clear, just take notes on everything and pay attention, watch the clips from movies she shows, maybe watch some movies mentioned in the class if you're curious. You WILL pass as long as you pay attention. Learn a lot and it's easy and fun.
Not really a subject I was interested in, but the class ended up being informative and the Professor was great. 3 tests (lowest score dropped) and 1 paper. Show up to class, take notes, and you'll pass.
she is funny, kind and very informed on the topics that she teaches. This is a history class, so there may be topic that one could find "boring". the class is mostly a lecture, but powerpoints are very clear and she loves class discussions. there were a few test and one paper. extra credit for attending outside events and on the test.
Her lectures last almost 3 hours despite promises of films to watch. Its the Seinfeld of film classes, a class about nothing, except this is no joke. Try to avoid this professor at all costs, other professors are more difficult but actually engage you. Which makes it easier to get through.
This is Diversity in Cinema. This amazing class really changed my point of view. I see life different now. I can understand a much wide horizon of diversity an opinions. I think this class has to be mandatory in every institution of art. Thanks Professor.
She is such a sweet professor. If you skip class, do not plan on passing. You're studying the beginning of the camera all the way to cinema in the 70s. You have 3 tests, one paper. Tests are 100 Q and 15 bonus. You do need the book. Take note of everything on the slides. Don't hope that she cancels class, she never does. She is never mean, amazing.
Average class. Wasn't difficult, as long as you do your work you'll be fine. A couple of extra credit opportunities. Leaves extra resources just in case you are interested. There were a lot of tests, so you must study. I didn't buy the book, you'll do fine without it.
I found her to be absolutely wonderful. She tries so hard to do the best she can and she is accommodating, always available for questions, and replies quick. She is very clear on what she wants from her students and gives extra credit. If you can join her optional zooms, she would love to have you. Remember to follow instruction and read modules.
Overall a fairly average professor. I ended up taking a second class from her, but I ended up getting a fairly condescending email that was not appreciated. The class itself is super easy. As long as you read the textbook and skim through the modules you can get an A. Couple of extracredit opportunities were given. I was fascinated by the material.
This was one of my favorite professors at Valley College, She cares about her students and makes sure you understand the work. She is organized and gives the best notes at Valley Colllege. I ended up transferring to a 4 year school and still the day , the foundations I learned from her classes have stuck with me such a Filmmaking and Directing.
Easiest online class I've ever taken she gives quizzes every week or so but they're super easy and open book and so were the exams and the final for this class
