Dr. Ari Ariyaratne is a great instructor! His knowledge and passion on his subject and hybrid teaching method makes his course exciting!! Very helpful and nice guy!!!
Great teacher, only troubles I had with him was his accent. A lot of people in my class dropped because it is VERY difficult to understand him. Besides that, he's nice, he hates when you skip class, he tries to help as best as possible. Don't buy the book, he didn't even want us to read it, he only wanted us to read his online notes. Book is $150
Being in Dr. Ari Ariyaratne's antropology class was a great learning experience for me. I highly recommend this great professor!
Dr Ari is a good teacher, he cares about his students and explains material well
GREAT TEACHER WHO CARES ABOUT HE'S STUDENTS
Prof Ari was an okay teacher but didn't time manage the 3 hour class very well. Too many offhand stories not related to class. Also his accent was very hard to understand the material.
Dr. Ari is an excellent professor of anthropology! He is very intelligent and helpful.
Hard to understand the first few classes but you get used to his accent, he's a really nice guy and obviously loves what he does. Loved the class, would definitely recommend taking.
great professor and very helpful.Highly recommended
His accent is so hard to understand. After a couple weeks you pick up on it. Quizzes were online. He gives out a study guide for the midterm and final. Which is an essay format. PPTs on blackboard. Also, he wants his students to succeed. Good teacher, just show up to class so you won't get behind.
awesome teacher, took online 16 week. 1quiz 1discussion board 1journal every saturday .. very easy, intresting material, used textbook for quiz, gave all information you needed thru blackboard. consider this the most easiest class i've ever taken, this man is very smart and helpful also. take!!!!!!! easy a
Awesome teacher! loved his class - he is sometimes hard to understand but he will repeat the word or subject until everyone understands.
Took Dr. Ari's 16-week 3-Hour class. He knows a lot about anthropology, obviously he got his doctorate, but I don't think he is the best at teaching it. Not the best lecturer, & hard to understand. He does provide a lot of good information online, but if you're looking for a professor who will keep you engaged during class, I do not recommend him.
Dr. Ari is an extremely intelligent and passionate professor. He offered knowledge pertaining to the course far beyond of what was just required of him. Class was taught in a well-read and open-minded manner. I HIGHLY RECOMMEND THIS GREAT PROFESSOR!
Super easy , dont go to class, barely study, will get you an A. He is also very easy on the eyes as well.
Ari was a great professor. He is a very intellegent man and made learning very easy to comphrehend. His clas is easy and requires mininal work. Take his clas for easy A.
Easy prof, you get used to his accent, not a lot of work assigned, don't bother buying the textbook, he's a nice guy and will crack jokes as long as you're respectful to him.
Great professor! Great class!! Highly recommended!!!
I loved this class. He's an awesome teacher that knows his information. He made sure everyone got the notes they need for his lectures and the modules online really helped. I would highly recommend him if you are taking cultural anthropology.
This felt like a college level class indeed. He is very knowledgable, kind, doesn't put up with loud people and their phones. The only drawback i could give is that his accent is about as thick as a hockey puck on top of three other hockey pucks. I thought of it as a good thing though, because i was forced to pay even more attention. Real nice man.
Ari is a great professor of cultural anthropology. Very smart, helpful, and nice guy.
As long as you read all the assignments you can really get a lot out of the online course.
He has very strong an accent..His lectures are long and borings, and releted to the quizes online..He does not prepare for anything..
He is truly an excellent professor with a wealth of info. on anthropology.
Very helpful, great with feedback, overall kind-hearted person!
Great professor who wants his students to excell. Highly recommended!
He is so passionate about his job. Loves to help his students and very knowledgable. His accent is very thick but you get used to it. Taking notes during his lectures are crucial and will help you big time on the tests. He has a lot of interesting things to say - worth your time. I loved him!
Overall very easy class, you must show up and participate! Must read chapters assigned!! There is a language barrier, but if you have any question or need additional clarification, he is more than willing to repeat himself. He is truly an amazing teacher, lets you out early SOMETIMES!!! He will do 'Mock' quizzes, so you are guaranteed to pass!!!
Thank you for a great summer and a fun final class at COD. You are amazing DR. Ari!
Professor was really helpful and was extremely understanding! Highly recommended!
I enjoyed taking this class and learned a lot. My professor was knowledgeable, helpful, and wanted his students to succeed.
Never gives up on his students, and he is always fair.
You can easily tell the difference between someone who is teaching just as a routine part of the job and a professor who teaches because he loves teaching. Dr. Ari loves teaching and it shows!
I like his sense of humor! I really learned a lot!! Cultural anthropology is interesting!!!
Very friendly and knowledgeable professor!
He is an awesome intelligent man. Very respectable. He can be hard to understand sometimes but he is extremely organized and so cute with his apple juice everyday. Easy A study guides are almost exact to the tests! Book not necessary Just show up!
The professor was so well organized. I appreciate that very much. My life is very busy and he is very clear with his expectations and the course syllabus is also very well organized.
Dr Ari is awesome. He shows respect and patient to every students. His quizs and discussion board are pretty easy, and you will get the good grades on the test if you take notes and review those before test. His lectures are organized and clear! Highly recommend!!
I like Dr. Ari and his teaching style! He is intelligent, friendly, and understanding! I highly recommend this professor and the courses he teaches for COD!!
This was one of the classes I truly loved. The professor was very helpful and caring. A great class and a great professor!
His appearance is tough but he is tender at heart! A good-looking prof. as well. Don't miss class meetings and take notes on his lectures. You should be fine!
He is intelligent and friendly!
Dr. Ari is a great professor of anthropology. If you need cultural anthropology intro class for your Gen Ed, he is a great choice!
You cannot understand him at all, moves way to fast through the class modules and doesnt keep class updated on what we are working on. Just avoid at all cost if you need good grades
Dr. Ari is an amazing professor of anthropology. Do not skip the class meetings and take notes on his lectures. You should be fine!
Dr. Ari is an amazing professor of anthropology. Do not skip the class meetings and take notes on his lectures. You should be fine! Online Quizs and Discussion.
He is a nice guy who cares deeply for his students. If you are struggling, he will go out of his way to help you pass. However, he has a very thick accent which makes understanding him difficult sometimes. Also, exams made up 70% of the overall grade! That's too much for a general education course.
He is a great guy! Very friendly, helpful, and understanding!! Make sure to attend class meetings and take notes consistently.
If you need a course in social sciences for GenEd credits, an anthropology class of Dr. Ari is one good choice at COD. He wouldn't make you disappointed. A professor who cares of his students!!
Organized! Informed!!
Great Lectures! Entertaining!!
If you need Gen Ed credits Dr. Ari's ANTHR1130 is a good choice. He is very helpful and understanding! I am so glad I did take his class.
I would definitely take Mr. A for any anthropology class. he is so genius and easy grader. Easy A+ for his class. his quizzes are always online, open book and unlimited time. He actually cares for his students and want them to succeed in his class. attend his lectures and quizzes are based on his lectures. Highly recommend taking him.
He is one of the best professor I had in my first semester of college. He cares for his students and highly respects them. He has good stories during the lectures that will never make you feel bored. Easy A I highly recommend taking him. Easy Grader. Will go beyond to help each and every students in class. Updates on blackboard as soon as possible.
Helped me understand humanity in the way that the themes were delivered online and through in-class instructions. Being able to watch videos and read stories made the content easier to understand. Ari is a kind and intelligent professor. Good-looking too!
Best professor I ever had in my college life, a great example for others!
Dr. Ari is an intelligent, talented, articulate, and caring professor! If you are falling behind in your grades, he does everything within his power to bring you back to the fold. A great professor!
Dr. Ari is an amazing professor of Anthropology and you will not be disappointed! He cares for his student success!!
Dr. Ari is a friendly, intelligent, and caring Professor! Took ANTR-1130 (people and cultures of world) for Gen Ed credit. You have to buy four textbooks, but they are very cheap and from e-bay or Amazon you can buy for a few dollars each! Any edition is fine! Four in-class tests, don't worry he will help you to get them done! Easy A!
I took ANTHR - 1130 (people and cultures of the world) with Dr. Ari in last fall. He uses 4 text books but they are available as PDF. files free of charge. Even if you want to buy them, buy from Amezon or E-Bay for a few dollars each--really cheap. Any edition is acceptable to him. 4 in class close-book tests, and you can get an easy A. Go for it!
I enjoyed some of the lectures however sometimes it was difficult to understand him. The textbook is not required. The study guide is almost exactly the questions you will receive on the test which makes studying for the tests easy. Overall it's an easy A, as long as you show up to class and use the study guide.
He is a great professor who is sympathetic to his students!
Thanks, Dr. Ari for a wonderful semester! Learned a lot, and received the grade I anticipated!!
Professor Ari is a great teacher and the video's he uses to explain his points are always very helpful. With his help, I earned the grade I anticipated!
Very good professor, has an accent so beware but he is still very easy to understand, online quizzes every week and only a midterm and final
As an online anthropology class, I expected to have to read some boring textbook or something. Instead, the assigned books were really interesting and I definitely enjoyed learning about the selected cultures. All books are cheap on Thriftbooks or other used book sites. 8 weekly quizzes with 5 questions each and two papers means an easy work load.
Professor Ariyaratne is a real one! He is super chill and extended many deadlines because some people were just needing more time. Quizzes are relatively easy and finals are pretty open ended. Definitely take him for any anthropology class.
I took Antro 1130 online and it was great! There are 4 books you have to buy and they are each or few dollars or even free. You have to take a bunch of 5 question quizzes throughout the class and there are 2 exams. He emails you the questions for the exam in advance& you have to answer them in essay format. Just read the books and it will be easy!
Awkward but a very nice guy. Notes are very straight forward and are the answers to the tests. Breaks concepts down in ways that are easy to understand, therefore, if you understand your notes to a tea, an A on the exams are easily attainable.
Professor Ari is very knowledgeable about anthropology, and he is a caring professor. His textbook is easy to follow and complemented with the course beautifully!
8-week online class, quiz each week, and a midterm and final. Quizzes aren't terrible, some answers are easy to find. The bulk of grade is from midterm and final, sends these a week or two before they are due and you just answer 4 out of 6 questions.
I took Prof Ari. for an 8-week course and it was a breeze. Every week you are given 2 modules to work on which include a quiz (questions are very similar to the textbook he wrote that is required for the course), a discussion board, and a journal. His grading is very easy as long as effort is put in. Only complaint is email response time.
Talks slow, basically a NET class, just skip the 4 hour class that just reiterates the book or goes on and on while not explaining where he is
This course opened me up to multiple worlds I had no clue about before, and for that, I am deeply grateful, Professor Ari!
This was a really great course and I really enjoyed Professor Ariyaratne that I took two of his anthropology classes. We did read different ethnographic novels for the class and took a quiz and it helped understand the topic even more. Overall enjoyed this class.
Prof. Ariyaratne initially struck me as boring; however, the longer the class went on, the more I realized that he is very passionate about this subject. He does everything he can to ensure that all of his students get a great grade, although the midterm and final exams are worth 60% of your grade. Very easy grader with intriguing lectures!
I enjoyed this taking this Anthropology course with professor Ariyaratne. Everything was straight forward and the class was well organized. The quizzes were a little tricky but the other assignments were pretty straightforward. He is very helpful and very nice, I felt like I learned alot and I didn't feel overwhelmed. I recommend this course.
I truly enjoyed this class, and it strongly connects to my other favorite subjects like sociology, psychology, and political science. I also had the advantage of due dates as it was very predictable and easy to remember, and that helped immensely with planning my schedule. I was also very relieved that the tests were relatively straightforward.
I am very happy with my experience taking this class with Prof. Ari. The textbook is very detailed and thorough and offers great explanations. I feel like I am leaving this class with a different, better understanding of the world and its inhabitants.
The textbook he wrote and this class he taught harmonized well. I enjoyed the class and got the grade I wanted to get. Professor Ari is super cool and he cares. Take him if you are looking for Gen Ed credit! You won't be sorry!!
he was an amazing professor! i wasnt very good at keeping up with the class work but he graded it fairly and was very sweet. there was usually a small pop quiz at the end of class but if you pay attention it is very easy and he loves participation!
For this course, I expected to have to read some boring textbooks. Instead, the assigned books were really interesting and I enjoyed learning about the selected cultures. All books are cheap on used book sites. 8 weekly quizzes with 5 questions each and two papers mean an easy workload. Great class! Learned a lot!! He is a caring professor!
Awesome! He does something called mock quizzes every class, but he goes over it so you get an 100% each time. The only homework was discussion boards that he grades really easily. The final was also a discussion that had to be around 3 paragraphs, but barely anyone was and he still gave full credit. I would definitely take him again!
TAKE THIS PROFESSOR! I literally went the whole semester without books and still got an A! weekly quizzes based on the books worth 3 points (which I failed most) but the midterm and final were worth 35 points and they were so easy, I was able to ace both just by the videos and prompts provided by the teacher. He doesn't respond to emails though.
He is a Great professor! I truly appreciate having a professor who is so passionate about his subject and has so much experience! The textbook he wrote testifies to his cutting-edge knowledge of anthropology!
I took Professor Ari's ANTHR 1130 second 8-week class at the COD's Addison Center a year ago. It was great and he is a nice guy who cares about his students. Take him and you won't be sorry!
