Wonderful teacher, one of the best I've ever had, interesting person.

very defensive, intimidates so it's hard to ask questions, knows alot
Interesting, Sweet lady, but jumps all over the place when teaching, Hard exams
Jumps around in lectures, defensive in-class, super-helpful in office hours

wish she'd give better foresight/preparation training of wat midterms would be like
easy class, fairly nice. skipped most of my classes, still did well on two midterms. i did my presentation two weeks after it was due and still got 80%. the final was hard (only because we didn't get the questions beforehand, like the midterms)
Very nice lady, pay attention in class, she tests on her lectures not on the text book, need extra help, see her in her office...have difficultiies due to outside of school events, she will help you thru the course and be very easy on the due dates.
sweet lady, class is interesting...the start is kinda tidious, but it gets better. no reason why you can't get an A
She is such a nice little lady! Her tests are not hard, as long as you review before! She is easy to talk to, and provides help if you ask her. She is very interesting, and most people in class enjoy her lectures. I loved taking classes with her!!
A. Bursewicz is the easiest teacher I have had. But she is friendly, helpful, and stays on topic. I am taking another class with her this semester. Make sure you take her, her exams are easy to write. Recommended if u want an easy A.
Sometimes i feel her class is very boring but she is actually nice..
what are her tests' format like?!
Very sweet lady, very helpful, and very intelligent! Makes the class super interesting! Easy midterms and final if you take notes! Pay attention to "example" midterm questions b/c many are actual midterm questions! One of my favorite teachers in
her lectures arent boring but interesting. but can't skip her classes cuz her midterms are based on the notes! she does take forever in marking and handing back exams (ex, 1 month). very nice and helpful too. esp if u want extensions.
A teacher who loves her subject. she's great, always happy, and an awesome teacher. one of the best teachers i have ever taken. take her, i don't think u'll regret it. her lectures are interesting, and well-organized. sometimes, she talksfast though.
great teacher. very funny in her own way. Made the class interesting and fun and a wonderful learning environment.
Good GPA booster. she is a very easy marker and very knowledgable. I found her to be quite defensive and a wee bit of a bitter scottish woman. Besides that she is pretty average.
she was okay, but i found that her defensive manner really deterred some from asking more questions and this seriously harmed her teaching capacity - talk about bitter!
she makes you feel like an idiot for asking a reasonable question. boring class, full of her uninteresting personal stories. avoid this class. she marks spuratically and plays favorites
I've taken many classes with Ariadne and she has a wealth of knowledge. Does not like stupid questions, so if she does not like you, that means you ask dumb Qs. HAha. She is probably the smartest woman I know in real life.
Very good instructor. Highly recommendable. She makes the subject interesting. Anyways, it's just good taking Anthropology with an experienced instructor.
Very nice woman, but lectures are all over the place. You never know what exactly is going on, and she tells many confusing and meandering stories. The notes she hands out are useless and confusing, so make your own! Tests are in short answer form.
AWESOME..AWESOME TEACHER!!I took all her anthro courses! If you need to boast your GPA then take as many classes w/her as possible.Even if you don't do well on the midterms/essays, she'll still give a great mark.Just smile n nod in class, n she'll love u!
She is so great!! She is the sweetest lady, so cute, and really easy-going. She is not a hard teacher, and is always willing to help. She is awesome! Loved her classes
The worst teacher I've ever had. She's not clear of what she wants and doesn't offer help when you need it or ask for it. Frankly, her stories of her "field studies" are boring and I dont give two flipping flies about it. To sum it up, if you're going to take this class, be prepared to be bored!
this lady is so awesome!!! I loved her class, and she is a sweet and funny woman. Her class is interesting and she is really easy to understand. If you actually pay attention in class, there is no way for you to be lost. Highly reccomended
She is a really odd teacher. She is all over the place, has no pictures or anything of interest - very boring lectures! she covers material not in the textbooks, but doesn't quiz on any of it, but quizzes on material she doesn't even mention in class. hard marker.
Such a sweet fantastic lady! Took a couple of classes to get used to her style, but very interesting! Any one who complains obviously is just taking her course for credit, and has no real interest in the subject matter anyways.

I took 3 classes with her. She knows is all. I have learned so much in her class. You have to get used to her style. If you follow well her instructions it is easy to get a good mark. Don't be freaked out by her attitude! She's a great lady, just show your interest.
Hard marker, never clear on what she expects and never gives an idea as to what exams are like. I came out with a B. Whether you'll do well is more of a gamble than anything else. She picks favourites.
She is a nice person but she is not a good professor. I get the feeling that she does not enjoy her job and wants to do the least amount of work/preparation for class as possible. She is unclear about what she expects and is not very helpful if you see her one-on-one either.
I have taken two of her classes and she is a very good teacher. Any time that I needed help she was glad to give me assistance. If you pay attention in her class and don't ask stupid inane questions you will be well off. VERY interesting classes.
It is hard to know what to expect from her tests. On the second mid-term it looked as if only a small portion of the class was able to finnish in time. She does not prepare her lectures in a well structured format. This is hipocritical since she excepts conformity to a strict structure for your work
shows up late for exams that are already too long for the time given.Poorly structure lectures.Tests you on things she doesnt teach you how to apply.Includes question on test regarding the term paper before she marks paper and you find out if you even did it correctly the first time.Dont take her
I like her a lot. Just be aware of her personality and don't take offense if she sounds deriding when answering your questions, she doesn't mean anything by it and probably doesn't realize how she can come off (especially as she loves student participation). Hard-ish exams, study your ass off.
Excellent Prof. Knows her stuff & loves it. Great class if you like anthro, if it bores you, don't bother. Teaches clear concepts then wants you to apply them on tests w/ case studies given in class (pay attention to stories!!) & in readings -can be difficult, but take GOOD notes, getting A not hard
She's probably my favorite professor at Langara. She's so nice, very approachable outside of class. And she's so incredibly smart, I learned so much from taking just one of her classes.
great teacher. knows what shes talking about unlike some teachers. pay close attention to lectures and show genuine interest and you should do well.
she is realy nice and helpfull.don't buy her books just attend to her classes and take notes that's all you need for her tests.the only problem is that she only gives you short amuont of time on the exams .her teaching style is more like high school teacher than a college professor but you can learn alot from her .
I found her to be very unorganized. Her lectures were all over the place. Her test questions very very specific but not necessarily on important subjects. She expects information to be given to her in a formulative structure which she seems to have made up herself. She speaks to the class as if it were a kindergarten room doesn't listen to question
I found her teaching style to be quite abstract. I never quite knew what I was expected to take in. She is full of interesting pieces of cultural information and the class was always interesting. Just pay attention and all will go well.
She wastes the entire class taking questions from annoying individuals, she doesnt take the time to clarify what we need to know for exams, she leaves after the bell has rung for like 10 minutes, and we start class late every day. she passes off her judgements as whats right and doesnt listen to other peoples points of view.
i think she is one of the worst teachers..she doesnt explain what she expects, marks hard, picks favourites, boring, rude and intimidating.overall****ty teacher.everyday she starts late.there is this guy in my class who's failing, he sucked up and now hes passing with a B.talk about unfair eh..those who try hard expect a C..drop now, ur gpa will drop.
She's a nice enough person; but not a very organized teacher. Very judgmental and generalizes about cultures. If you take offense easily dont take her class. Test usually have JUST enough time..if you are at all unclear on the material you will not do well. Prepare well in advance..infact, you should do the readings before the first month is over
She wastes an incredible amount of class time going to and from her office. She is a nice enough person and very cheery but she is disorganized, scatterbrained and upon taking this course I lost all interest in ever pursuing another class with her
she is very nice if she is not sick :) but she is not orginized , specially with notes jumps from one subject to another.its hard to study for the midterms and final because you dont know what to study for cuz the questions are not related to notes neither the books
She is an OK teacher. Disorganized in her notes, that's true. Her exams are not the easiest. It can be a challenging course if you do not follow her lectures or attend all classes. I would not take any other class with her. If you are very interested in anthropology, go for it. She is a very knowledgable woman and knows her stuff.
she is very helpful and nice.eassy to earn A grades from her
A nice teacher, but lectures not very clear.
laughs at her own jokes then stares at you until you laugh too
Very easy to earn an A if you go to class and listen. She's very approachable after class. Exams are reasonable.
It was pretty slow and boring at the beginning, but once it picked up I began to enjoy it a lot more. She is a lovely woman, and a decent teacher - ask questions! She knows her subject and is very approachable. She asks the class a lot of questions that seem rhetorical, but waits for someone to answer. No one does and it makes the class drag by.
One of the best instructors that I had here at Langara. She is so helpful and willing to help you till the end. AS long as you come to classes and pay attention, you'll guaranteed to get a good mark.
Wonderful teacher. She is a hard marker and her exams are very, very difficult. She knows her stuff very well which makes her quite respectable in my eyes. Even though her assignments and exams are difficult, she will sometimes surprise you.
she's nice
I don't like this teacher. The class is SO boring. She'll talk about one thing and then she'll go off into one of her stories which sometimes doesn't even relate to what we were discussing in the first place. She's making me hate anthropology. The only positive thing I can say about her is that she knows her stuff very well.
She is a walking encyclopedia; and a very amusingly queer woman. She's a tad disorganized, and content of exams are unclear---the second mid-term will most likely royally screw you. Anal, but lovable.
Sweet lady, but obviously a trekky nerd from way back. Goes off topic often, don't worry about missing classes as long as notes are available.
She's like your crazy great aunt Bertha: you just want to give her a hug, sip tea and chat about kinship nuances... That being said, she's very tangential and takes a very long time to get through material. It was not uncommon to come out of class with 2 lines of notes. Partly because she takes forever to write things on the board...
Very nice and sweet teacher. Very old school though, Won't give even half a mark if vocab word is even a bit off. 2nd exam hardest but very good teacher.
What a painful class....I was really excited to take this class, but I was happy when it was over. She's make a great grandmother, but it's definitely her time to retire. Her tangents were ridiculous, and she won't even use a computer. The woman has been left in the dark ages. I got a good mark, but I wouldn't recommend her to anybody.
well she is definitely different. didn't like the midterm style, hard to understand what she wants, but once the questions are marked you usually do better than you thought. disorganized, goes off a lot, but interesting info/stories. no reasearch paper, the written assignment is reasonable. don't expect to memorize, she wants you to apply concepts
Great prof. easy to listen to, interesting stories that relate to course material. Take lots of notes on everything, even if she says you don't have to write it all down. She will ask for an example in the midterm/final. Study notes and attend class and you will get an A. Prof. often late/cancels class.
She is not very interesting to listen to and not clear about the midterms and test. She does tell a lot of neat stories though, which you should take notes on because her test questions usually require examples. She doesn't take attendance but she does notice if you are there or not and it will affect your final grade so you better show up.
very important to listen to the stories and to remember their general form and relevance. use these examples in test and essay work. pick a myth. culture you are very interested in for your term project and examine the meanings fully. The professor enjoys responses to her questions, and teaches much better with class participation. Show interest
Greatest teacher, if you listen carefully she says some hysterical things. Not a hard marker if you study mildly and pay somewhat attention. Really lovely person, ask her for help and she will give you the answer you need. Take her class!
Yikers! What an oddity!
She's a wonderful person. Definitely an odd duck but in an adorable way. If you listen to lectures you will do great on the tests. Usually tells you exactly what will be on them. She's lived an interesting life and her stories are inspiring/interesting. She's hilarious in her own quirky way. Really a unique soul.
Sometimes she can be a bit patronizing, but i don't think its her intention. She's a very good teacher, although a bit old school. Pay attention in lectures, and don't be bashful to ask a lot of questions, she thrives on it, and class actually gets better with more participation.
Very passionate and intellectual teacher, hard worker uses every minute of class effectively, is never boring. I enjoyed every minute of her class. I like her style, very clear, and interesting. She is very particulate examinations, students have to be interested and study. One of my best teachers, certainly the one I have enjoyed the most.
This is a great class she really knows her material. If u don't like to study and only want an easy course do not take this class. This is an amazing teacher requires students care and effort. I would take all her classes if I could.
She's certainly eccentric and can sometimes have trouble controlling the class, but is very smart and knows her stuff. Says some hilarious things and has some interesting stories. Not a class where you can slack off and get by. Don't ask stupid questions either, or she gets irritated. Does not like repeating herself. Tests are hard too, study!!!!
Great teacher. She is hilarious. You truly have to be somewhat interested in Myths, legends,&folklores. Even if you don't know much about them, you will by the end of the course.Very helpful, overall fun class:)
A lovely woman with a cheeky sense of humour. She's clearly passionate about her field and is a treasure trove of information and interesting anecdotes from her vast life experience. Her classes, however, are not necessarily easy. She has high expectations of her students and exams can be challenging. Study hard, attend classes & you'll do well
Lovely woman with a huge breadth of knowledge in her field. Her syllabus provides little useful information, but the course is quite easy to keep up with if you attend regularly. Old fashioned and a little quirky, but the exams are easy and lectures are pleasant. If you're interested in the material, her class is worth taking.
uugh odd ball. Pleasently stuck in the past, enjoyable if you can travel that far back. Upside she took alot of sick days.
avoid. she cancels class on important days: ex. she said we'll receive our written assignment on a certain day and everyone showed up to class.she's forgetful, and gets distracted too easily.if you want an easy A, dont take her. Only take her when you really want to go into this field because she's knowledgeable.
When you ask her what any test is about, she'll always say 'everything'. She's not helpful at all. She always thinks she's right and will argue with you until proven wrong. You have to attend class to receive her notes because everything she says isn't in the book. About 1/4 of the class dropped out. I think you should too.
"you get the idea."
HOWEVER I would only recommend her to people that are serious about anth. A's do not come easy - her exams are extremely difficult because of the style she uses. Try not to get first class of day, she often doesn't show - save your sleep. All-in-all be prepared to have fun and fail. "you get the idea"...
Was super excited about this course, but int he end I felt like I learned nothing, and the worst part is, that her exams didn't exactly make sense at all. Don't take her courses period.
wow, she is the easiest prof i have ,i start study only the day before exam everytime, but i still got 24/25 for both midterm, essay will be easy if you read the article, you can go to her office and ask if u'r on the right track, but please be polite to her,or she wont be willing to help u
If you know how to write an essay, you will get an A+. I'm an A- student, but in this course it was a breeze to get an A+. I found her to be sort of an intimidating and eccentric type, definitely not someone I'd want to visit for help outside class, but I loved the material and the exams were directly relevant to class lectures.
If I could take another course with her I would in a heartbeat. I got an A+, I'm a B student. Her material is extremely interesting and she hands out bonus marks like candy if you follow her instructions on writing essays! The tests are where you'll be writing essays, I don't remember writing any outside of testing. So in class is always nice :)
