Probably one of the best prof ECC has. Took Dittus the first time around. BIG MISTAKE! Larson is much more involved in the class and her students. If you do the work and put in the effort, you will do great in this class. Homework assignments were reasonable & class exercises were fun, made it easy to get to know other students in class LOVED HER!
Take her if you are taking any other classes. Her class is basically like a part time job. When helpful when asked. Be careful on the first day as she tries to hide as one of the students and reveals herself after having conversations with the students.
Took speech multiple times and dropped it. Took it with Larson and got an A. Need to show up on speech days. Entertaining.
Arial is the best teacher Ive ever had the pleasure of knowing. She definitely makes you work for your grade, but as long as you're willing to give it your best effort, you will do fine. She's quirky, funny, and despite being a great teacher, still manages to act like a friend. Even when you're not the best student, she has faith in you.
I took CMS 101 during a three week course in the summer and thoroughly enjoyed it! Had 5 speeches and one group speech. Just make sure you're in the time limit and have oral citations. Gives (easy) pop quizzes on material from the textbook. If you get 99% in end of semester you're exempt from final. I was exempt and so were many others in my class.
If you're afraid of public speaking, take Larson. If you're not afraid of public speaking, take Larson. In short, just take Larson.
Take Larson and you will not be disappointed. She actually cares about her students. I was terrible at public speaking and with a little effort I ended up with an A with final exempt. She gives lots of extra credit assignments as well. She is a great Teacher.
Arial is a very good teacher, but doesn't understand that not everyone has the same attitude about public speaking as her. She is strict in that if you don't come prepared on Speech Day she will give you a plain zero. Even attending every class is not enough. I think she needs to put herself in someone else's shoes.
Ms. Larson has been by far one of the best teachers I have had here at ECC. She's very helpful towards the students she knows aren't the best public speakers, anyone who says she's not understanding is obviously not putting in effort. She makes speech class a breeze and a fun class to be in. Group speech days are hilarious.
coolest most caring teacher I have ever met, she respects everyone. there are only 5-6 pop quizzes so be prepared to read. if you keep up with your work and actually try it's an easy A. not a tough grader at all. participation matters. if you are able to keep you grade at an 98 you will be exempted from the cumulative final.
Gave students the option to present speeches in different ways, just to help them succeed and overcome their public speaking fears. Genuinely passionate about her job and wants to see her students do well. Knowledgable and has a great attitude every single time, just follow her syllabus and put real effort into your speeches.
Very leniant on grading presentations if you show you worked hard. Projects can be fun+she encourages inventiveness. Lots of creative freedom for presentations, and she encourages getting to know people in the class. You can get an older edition of the textbook for super cheap. Some pop quizzes, but not too bad as long as you skim the chapter.
Makes class fun and informative.
Best teacher ever! Made the classroom into a comfortable environment. Lots of fun, just make sure to participate.
Ariel Larson's class was a lot of fun, and she makes it that way. Miss Larson is supportive and works to help any student complete their goals as long as there is a desire to learn.
I highly recommend this instructor if you absolutely hate public speaking. Anyone who says anything negative about her clearly didn't try or care about the course.
Larson is the best! Her class is really simple if you just follow the guide lines, she has everything practically done for you homework wise with tons of examples you just have to do it again in your own words. She's really funny and really wants her students to succeed.
Absolutely the BEST professor I have ever has. She is very understanding but still holds expectations. She offers extra credit, so if you show up and do all the work it is an easy A!
Literally THE BEST PROFESSOR I HAVE EVER HAD. Super funny, super nice, and very much a "I want you to improve" over "you must be perfect" teacher! Speech is without a doubt my biggest fear but she makes the classroom both comfortable and friendly with ease! Totally would hang out with her outside of class! Bring her a banana and she'll love you!
Best professor at ECC. This is the only class ive ever taken when I felt sad when it ended. Professor Larson Loves her job and her students and wants everyone to get an A
She's got a great sense of humor and always keeps class interesting. There are several impromptu speeches that she doesn't force you to do, but they're worth points. As long as you put the effort into your speeches, you'll do fine, she isn't a harsh grader, and is super encouraging, which is nice if you're introverted and shy.
Definitely take. Best speech teacher! Lots of extra credit opportunities and very reasonable requirements for each speech, a lot better than other teachers! Loved this class even though I hate public speaking.
She seemed cool at first but is a tough grader. I didnt really learn anything and didnt think this class was helpful towards a speech. She just expects you to know the speech and present without teaching it.
Larson was an incredible professor and easily my favorite at ECC! I feel like she legitimately cared about her students and she showed that. She was chill and fun but also fair and made sure that you understood the material and helped you improve. She graded very fairly. I was sad when the class ended. Would definitely take this over anyone else.
Larson is awesome! She makes you want to go to class! Lots of fun activities. She is super chill and cares about every student. I hate public speaking but she made it bearable and gave the class so much confidence in themselves. Really fun group speech at the end of the semester. She is a fair grader. Always easy to contact outside of class.
Larson is the G-O-A-T! The final exam is difficult but that's just me, I'm horrible at taking tests.
She is a really cool teacher. She offers so much extra credit. She loves her students and wants all of them to succeed. She truly wants to make students better public speakers.
She's one of the best professors I had here at ECC!!! So funny, totally would recommend her to anyone!
Larson was by far one of my favorite professors! Shes laid back, but cares a lot about everyone passing her class! She made speech enjoyable and I actually learned a lot that I wasnt aware of before. If you have to take any professor for speech, please take Larson! Shell make your learning experience enjoyable and worthwhile!
Larson is the best! She is by far the best professor I have taken at ECC. It's usually hard for me to look forward to going to class but for this class, I always want to be there. She is very understanding and funny. She gets along with her students very well, and loves to do what she does. I would definitely recommend her to anyone!
Not sure how her score is so good, this was the worst teacher I've had at ECC. The grade you receive is based on her own opinion,so make sure she likes you or you'll get 60% on everything, while your less-prepared friends get 100s. Once our class changed to online she HATED answering anyone's Qs. She threw fits and was so inconsiderate to everyone.
I swear she's writing these reviews herself, that seems exactly like something she would do. She does not deserve a score this good my entire class hated her... sorry. She gave me awful grades for no reason, she doesn't teach anything, and she was straight up mean. Take ANY other teacher for speech, don't listen to these reviews!!
Maybe if it was in person she'd be better but online she's horrible. Not a great communicator. Expects us to know how the online classes are. Not caring and is hard to reach. The class is overall easy but she makes you do extra steps for no reason.
It would've been more understandable if my last semester's teachers didn't teach as well online because their semester got cut short. Larson was the most infuriating teacher to have online. She doesn't respond to emails, she admits to slacking, her approvals of topics sound bias, her help is very nonexistent, gets off topic, and just can't teach.
If I wanted to take a class where I would get no support from the teacher and be confused 100% of the time, I would choose Larson. Don't ever expect an email back or a well thought out response to a question. Its almost as if she has never taught a class before and it shows. You will be given a ton of useless work that has no reasoning.
She offers extra credit, which is wonderful. She is kind of a tough grader at times and says that students are missing items when they are not. Good luck if you take her. She does have clear expectations for her speech requirements that you need which is good.
She offers extra credit, but takes forever to grade things!!!
The class was difficult to adjust to at the beginning, she expected us to know how to everything. Don't ask questions because you won't get the response your looking for or she rude about it. She's a tough grader on the speeches and if doesn't like your speech she will make it clear to you. I'm saving you now before you make the wrong decision.
Having Ms. Larson teach my speech gen. ed. class was the best thing that happened to me this semester. Larson's jokes always made me laugh, and the classes were all greatly enjoyable. Larson is an extremely encouraging teacher, and she was very receptive to my out-of-the-box and silly speeches. If I could take more classes under her I would.
Arial Larson was a really good teacher for this class. She graded tough, but if you put in the work it really paid off. My speech grades improved from C to A through the semester, and I only managed an A because of her help.
This class was pretty easy, but that's to be expected from a gen ed class. Her jokes were pretty cringey, but a few made me chuckle. , Overall, the class wasn't too stressful. A few good speeches and showing up to class made everything go by very smoothly.
Professor Larson saved my butt on this one. I was on track to get a C or D the class at the halfway mark, but I reached out and she worked with me and helped me get up to a decent grade by the end of the semester.
Larson would've been good as an in-person professor however I regret taking the class online. My best description of her is "unprofessional". She treats her students like her friends which is fine for some people. Constantly off-topic and would not stop talking during the final. Speeches submitted via public Youtube Videos which was nerve-wracking.
Larson is a great professor. She provides many extra credit opportunities that are worth a fair amount of points. You only give 3 speeches, but you should listen to the criteria because that is your key to a good grade. She gives detailed feedback on your speeches for a better grade on the next one. You can also email her for questions as well.
The speeches are easy to perform but feel like she is more of an in-person professor. She is fair with her grading, you are in charge of what score you get. She does have a ton of extra credit. Could do better with answering emails on time and have a better organization with online assignments, a little reminder of due dates would not hurt.
Was hard to contact. Does not change any grades even if you give an explanation.
Professor Larson gives great examples for speeches and is a well-organized course. Just turn in all assignments and speeches you can have a solid B minimum.
I swear this professor is rating herself on this website. Do NOT take any courses with this professor!! VERY unprofessional. Doesn't respond to emails if they aren't written correctly. Takes a while to grade things. Does not like/is not interested in compromising with students.
Easily the worst teacher I've ever had. She has a very rude and volatile attitude. She will provide no help if you ask. You will be given a hard time with choosing speech topics; she will reject them for senseless reasons. An unapproved topic will result in major point loss. Her "Rate My Professor" score is unbelievably inaccurate, do not take her.
Shes not responsive in email but she is a cool teacher and can relate to her students. She is kind of unprofessional to...
Larson was a great first instructor to have for a speech class. She was very insightful and provided a lot of feedback. Took a while to answer emails, but an overall great, simple class. Lots of extra credit opportunities.
Pay attention to the last page syllabus!! She also doesn't require much but there are a lot of assignments that have to be done a certain way.
Arial Larson is POWER TRIPPING. She's unprofessional and likes to be called "Larson". If you EVER Call her Ms. Larson she will take unnecessary points off and thinks you are being disrespectful. When really its proper English and shes just... well..... not educated properly on grammar. She is unresponsive to emails and plain out RUDE #sorrynotsorry
This is the WORST teacher I have ever had in my life. DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS. I AM SAVING YOU NOW. She is unprofessional, takes forever to answer, and acts like a high schooler. If she does not like you, you won't pass. She is so quick to judge and grades like her authority and pay grade is high. DO NOT TAKE HER. She is manipulative and annoying.
I had Larson for a summer class. She gave many opprotunities for extra credit and was clear with her grading. Pretty much if you meet all criteria you would receive an A. She also left a detailed review on each speech so that you knew what you did good on and where you could do better.
Do not take if you have an opinion that conflicts with hers. Also does not budge but offers extra credit that requires lots of work.
Larson was great! DO NO LISTEN TO THE SALTY PEOPLE! She was amazing and helped me so much , gave me an opportunity to improve my grade when I was failing. Shes very understanding and caring for her students. I would without a doubt would recommend her to anyone!Shes great !!!!
She is the most amazing teacher ever
Super cool teacher
This teacher is a very easy going teacher she understands that there are more things in life than just schoolwork and allows you to communicate if there is ever an occasion where you find yourself falling behind. She is not too heavy on the homework which is an upside. She is a strict grader, but it only pushes you to do better.
Larson was a great professor, I was a bit nervous about the class in the beginning because I didn't know how it would go for me but it turns out its not super challenging work & Larson always provided lots of help like examples, etc. to help it be more clear for student and she had many different ways we could earn extra credit. Would def recommend
Prof Larson was very kind and enthusiastic. The homework wasn't bad, but she is a tough grader on speeches, so put a lot of effort into them! Good feedback for speeches too so you know what to work on. Overall, I would take this class again.
Larson is a teacher who knows what she wants for her students. When asking for help she will be able to provide the help or clarification if needed. There will be quizzes so make sure to read the mandatory book. She might seem a little intimidating by her text. But she is being professional as she should. Ya know ? But outside of the she is sweet!
She was amazing, she made us feel super comfortable.
The most encouraging and understanding professor Ive ever had. She took away our attendance policy which tremendously helped my mental health this semester and gave such a manageable workload. One of the only classes Ive ever throughly enjoyed. She really is your friend as well as your instructor. You learn kindness and communication here :)
She was alright. I mean she was nice and all, but she was such a tough grader and trying to choose a topic with her was super stressful because if she didn't like the topic she wouldn't let you use it. I don't think I'd take her again and I wouldn't recommend anyone take her if you don't like tough graders
You need to be able to keep up on the mandatory bookwork (quizzes), and the activities to follow each week. If you have a busy schedule, you really have to find time to do everything, but with the no attendance policy she gives in class, we are able to miss days or even hours out of the day to complete other work or even her work. No late work.
Larson connects with her students through her delivery and technique through her speeches and lends a lot of helping hands to her students, giving them pointers, and extra credit opportunities, and understands that people get busy with their day-to-day lives. She is clear with what she wants on homework assignments and will refer to the syllabus.
Very tough grader when it comes to speeches. one slight wrong move and you are done for, she will tell you what you need to improve on but then would find something else to put you down and would hurt your grade tremendously, the extra credit at least saved the grade by a small percentage, a lot more to say but not enough room to fit it all.
I took a summer course with her and I liked how she had a small audience for the persuasive speech. I wish she had done that with the other speeches. She has to approve topics which was quite difficult since most of the topics weren't allowed.
She introduced herself in different way than other professors , Liked how she did small audience for her speeches but the only thing was that topic speeches were so hard to pick . Also, gave a ton of extra credit during class.
Larson was an amazing professor. Her class is really easy to follow. As a summer class this class didn't feel super rushed at all. During the class time we were given time to do our homework so that you barely had anything left to do at home. She also offered a lot of extra credit to help boost our grade. All around an amazing class!
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS, IF YOU DO ONE THING WRONG SHE WILL TAKE POINTS OFF. INSTEAD OF TEACHING US SHE SHOWED US PICTURES OF HER HUSBAND DESCRIBING TO THE WHOLE CLASS HOW HE WAS "HOT" AN ABSOLUTELY HORRENDOUS EXPERIENCE, SHE IS VERY MANIPULATIVE AND SHE IS ON A POWER TRIP. SHE ALSO ALLOWS STUDENTS TO GAIN EXTRA CREDIT BY LEAVING A REVIEW ON HERE.
If you want to pass the speech class, I would not take this class. An extremely rude, and manipulative person Arial Larson is. She takes points off of peoples speeches for not wearing a shirt without a logo, she also takes points off for the way somebody walks up to present. She also takes points off in your in the bathroom for too long.
Worst teacher ever. She admitted to the class that she writes reviews for herself on here because she is such a bad teacher. She also acts like she is in middle school.
Save yourself a lot of headache and take a different teacher.
Took her for speech and she was flat out rude and unhelpful, she took 6 days to respond to one of my emails and she didn't really care for her students.
she plays favorites, she is unprofessional, and she takes random points off for no reason.
Taking this course over the summer especially with the return to in person classes provided a experience that is different from online. She is a strict grader when it comes to speeches and makes it known what you need in order to pass. Overall I would recommend her as she does seem to care about her students and wants us to succeed.
Professor Larson gives lots of opportunity for extra credit! She goes over how you can work to get an A & She is easy to talk to about assignments. She gives you lots of examples of how your speeches should look like with example outlines and videos. Quizzes are easy as long as you read the power points. She gives you time inclass to do homework.
Larson can be a tough grader on certain assignments and speeches but she lets you know all the stuff you need to pass with a high grade. She also gives a lot of chances for extra credit. Class was pretty interactive and fun with the certain speech prompts we had. Her summer class had a smaller amount of time but Larson made it a little easier.
This prof was perfect. This is a professor that was transparent and secure about her rate my professor ratings. Although she stated this course would be hard, she did her best to make the work and feed back help the student succeed
It is hilarious reading other reviews. I was scared when I started her class, but I eased into it. I almost flunked the class, but her reassurance helped me. She will definitely push you to the edge, but it is only to bring out the best in you. I looked forward to her class on some days.
Great teacher, has a clear understanding of the material and is very clear on what she expects from her students. Unfortunately for me i'm doing this review for an extra credit assignment because I put myself in a position to fail by blowing off homework assignments and being a bit lazy. Can be a tough grader for speeches, but solid overall.
She Is very laid back. She goes over what is needed to pass the class. Make sure you follow the syllabus dates. Lots of extra Credit!!!
There are 4 speeches in total: narrative, informative, persuasive, and group speech. The first speech and group speech you do is in front of the whole class and the informative/persuasive is with a small group from the class (about 7 people). Many extra credit points. Larson is very caring and makes the class environment very comfortable.
The reason I think Larson is such a good teacher and liked by her students, is her way of connecting with her students. She helps people with their work and her stories are actually funny and entertaining. She clearly shows an interest in people's work and wants to help each of her students come out of the classroom learning something new.
I really enjoyed her class at the beginning of the course, she is indeed very laidback in the beginning. She takes points of any small detail including if your pants aren't dark enough. Expected to have a fun time during that class but ended up feeling overwhelmed, stressed, annoyed, and just pissed the whole semester.
Very caring, funny, and respectful. Very encouraging and tried to ease our public speaking anxiety. She gave great feedback after speeches, and would post our speech grades almost instantly afterwards. Always wanted us to succeed! Overall a great class, but I do wish that she accepted late work and was a bit more accessible through email.
Reading the reviews I was very nervous to take this class but it ended up being a decent experience. Larson seems to really care about her class and does a good job teaching. She is a little hard on some aspects of grading the speeches but its' not terrible. I do wish she could be a little more available when replying to emails.
Stays strict to deadlines and the syllabus. Also not a super homework based class, just make sure to be prepared for the speeches.
After each speech, I waited after class to see if she could give me feedback. She always gave me detailed feedback on what I did well and what I could do better for my future speeches. Extra credit is up to 50 points. Make sure to write down when the homework assignments are due because I missed a couple assignments because of it.
Larson is an enjoyable teacher who is easy to talk to. She truly wants her students to succeed and ensures this by providing extra credit opportunities. I would highly recommend taking her class.
She is a good professor she cares about her students and gives a lot of extra credit opportunities. She only had us do 3 speeches and if you do your work and not procrastinate then you will be fine in the class.
I like this class. It's a fun environment and everyone's relaxed. Professor Larson gives good detailed feedback and it's helped me get better at speaking. These bad reviews confused me because my experience was very positive. Overall fun and helpful professor and course. Would recommend.
Professor Larson is a very nice instructor and she always came to class with a positive attitude. She was also very helpful if you were in need.
Really funny and nice professor. As long as you pay attention to the work course and the rubric, you'll be good
It was great to be part of Professor Larson's Class. She makes sure that every student's concept is clear during class. After every presentation, she feedbacks on my mistakes. It was a great experience for me to be her student.
She is a very good professor. Arial is made to be a CMS professor. She is funny and a caring person. As long as you do your work for the course and give it your all, you will get a good grade. She is very comprehensive and gives amazing feedback.
She's a great professor, who cares about her students. She gives great feedback and even helps you come with topics on your speeches when you are stuck. She gives extra credits assignments and also impromptu speeches within class. There is multiple ways to get extra credit in her class.
Arial Larson is a kind and inspirational instructor at Elgin Community College. Larson teaches you more than communication, but life lessons in general. She is lenient and understanding and willing to work aside of you on your speeches. The speeches and homework she assigned was not vigorous at all.
Professor Larson was a joy to have this spring semester of 2023. She is enthusiastic and encouraging as an instructor and is there to work with you. She is inspirational and teaches you more than speech. She provides valuable life lessons and is very easy going and fun to talk to.
Prepare yourself for this class because it's like a roller coaster and like a roller coaster there are highs and lows. If you do take this class you will have a good time if you are okay with being out of your comfort zone. You will also be gaining knowledge from someone who knows and loves what they are doing and Mrs Larson definitely knows.
Professor Larson is a great caring respected instructor. Her class is really straight up and work is well organized with a schedule to follow. Major work are the speeches but are really self explanatory you are given enough time to prepare.
Professor Larson was very involved in the class, she was available for help and the help she provided was substantial. She made a class I was dreading taking enjoyable, and as someone who struggles with speaking, I found it was much easier to do so within this class.
Larson was an amazing professor! I always looked forward to going to her class. It's important to turn things on time because she doesn't take late assignments, but she does do a LOT of extra credit! In her class I truly gained confidence in public speaking, something I didn't think I'd ever do.
Larson is one of the best teachers. She is very kind and wants every single one of her students to succeed and get the best out of life. She will always help you in whatever way you may need whether it be with homework or even with personal matters. She pushes you to try and get out of your comfort zone but is still kind on understanding people
There are not many professors like professor Larson, she is a great professor. The class schedule is very organized and Larson is a fast grader. The speeches are easy as well and you are given a long time to prepare for them.
Professor Larson is a very easy going person, she gives feedback that is helpful for upcoming speeches. She also provides provides a lot of time to work on speeches and in an online class she does not require attendance unless it is your speaking day. She also gave many resources for writing a speech such as outlines and her own speeches recorded.
Professor Larson is an excellent instructor, very thoughtful and caring. She makes a point to give plenty of templates and examples to make sure you as a student know what is expected in terms of quality of work. If you make mistakes, extra credit is available to earn. Attendance is not mandatory, but I found her class too fun to miss.
As I had Larson for speech the summer of '23, coming into the course I was nervous about the workload, but I shouldn't have been. She is very organized, caring, and funny. She even gives you a bunch of extra credit options! Even though she is a tough grader, she provides you with great feedback. Would definitely recommend taking her course!
Larson is an amazing communications professor. She makes the class comfortable for her students to succeed. She truly is caring and organized. I took the class during summer, so everything was fast paced, but Larson had everything prepared and scheduled on the syllabus. She gives great feedback that can be used throughout the course to improve.
Get ready for some of the best and worst jokes ever told, sorry ms. Larson. For the most part, the class was pretty easy she doesn't call on people and she doesn't ask you to read out loud, she also makes the class pretty entertaining. What more can I say she's just the perfect teacher.
You have to be on top of your work. This class was not overwhelming for me I enjoyed it and as long as you don't fall behind you will be fine. She offers a lot of extra credit as well to guarantee you can pass (hopefully)
The only thing I disliked about this class was the need for the use of a given outline. I was recommended this teacher by a friend and I am so glad I took it. She offers so much extra credit and the class is as easy to follow as it can get, although there is a textbook for this course you don't need to buy it. Great teacher, I would recommend.
She was real and upfront about everything expected. Rubrics were clear, gave feedback for any points taken off. Assignments like quizzes and discussions are easy if you follow along the given slides and participate. Although no late work taken, she does put out the assignments a few weeks in advance. Fun and enjoyable, not a boring droning lecture.
Enjoyable and fun lectures, no droning. Textbook is optional, I didn't buy it. Rubrics show clear expectations and she gives feedback for what and why points are taken off. Assignments are quizzes and discussions, no late work but all assignments are open 1-2 weeks in advance. Participation matters and lots of chances for extra credit. Loved her.
There isn't much work assigned, so it's very easy to fall behind and she doesn't accept late work, however, she does give tons of extra credit opportunities to make up for it. I will stress the importance of the syllabus and rubrics because those will be your key to passing the class. Overall, she's very easygoing and a great professor

Larson is a great teacher. She is fun and her classes are always interesting. She let us out early almost every day, and she is very laid back. Make sure to do all the assignments on time because she doesn't accept late work. Even if you do miss some assignments, she has a ton of extra credit opportunities for you to earn.
Larson was super kind to her students. Always real and willing to help when you needed it. You can tell she genuinely enjoys teaching. I noticed she's a tough grader, but she provides lot's of extra credit options. Overall, super easy class and worth taking.
Honestly I really like this teacher! This was the class I was scared of the most because of speaking in front of an audience, but honestly she really helped me get out of my comfort zone. There's four quizzes, discussion boards, and 5 major speeches. The class is very simple and straight forward. I would highly recommend this class!!
At the start, this is the class I was most afraid of due to anxiety, but this instructor was there to help each student do the best they can. I felt that the class was challenging, but it helps you in all your classes at the same time. I applied knowledge from this class to two of my three other classes, and I'm getting As in all three classes.
Larson is a great professor, She makes sure she lets the students know what she expects with every speech. This class really helped me get out of my comfort zone because I hate being the center of attention. Larson is a really tough grader, that's the only warning I have for students who join her speech 101 class.
Larson makes a speech class that is usually a very anxiety-inducing and she made easier to process and get used to the environment. She doesn't have too many assignments and the speeches aren't bad as long as you prepare for them, which she gives you plenty of time and support. She has a solid extra credit system which keeps your grade afloat.
I think Larson is one of the better available professors at ECC. Lectures were always interesting and there were lots of times that allowed for teamwork and also self expression. Good professor that always can bring some humor to the classroom.
Larson is a good professor at ECC. She provides good feedback that is beneficial for students in and out of her class. I enjoyed her class, all the material provided was beneficial and enjoyable. She's big on participation, but, it challenges students to step out of their comfort zone.
Larson was a great teacher. Her instructions are clear for all the assignments and she expects a lot from her students so she is a tough grader but she offers extra credit opportunities throughout the semester. She is very funny and tries to connect with her class so much so I definitely recommend her for anyone that has to take a speech class!
She's very understanding and big on helping out.
An overall great instructor. Does give a lot of extra credit opportunities for any points lost. Only negative is she can be a harsh grader but a student can come up to her to dispute a grade if need be.
Arial Larson is one of the best professors I've had at ECC. She is respectful, accommodating, and easy to talk to. She has a good sense of humor which makes class nice, especially in the morning. She is easy to access outside of class. She does expect the best out of you but in an encouraging way. I enjoyed Larson and highly recommend her class.
I was so glad my friend recommended this professor to me! I had a good experience with this class! I found the feedback on my speeches to be the most helpful, as it provided ideas I could apply outside of class as well, and I felt set up for success.
Arial Larson was a great professor to have for my speech class. I was afraid to actually present my speeches, but she had clear outlines and a good grading criteria. She really cares about her students succeeding.
Best teacher ive had in a college setting, very helpful, and wants to see you succeed. You still need to try in this class but if you put in the effort an A is definitely doable compared to other classes I've taken.
Very nice and helpful teacher, I couldn't ask for a better speech class professor. Work needs to be kept on top of but the class is very doable if the work is put in. Arial is very generous with extra credit and wants to see you succeed. Would take this class again if I had to.
Professor Larson is a very tough grader, but gives great feedback on speeches. She took a class that is uncomfortable for many, and made her students feel as confident as possible. While she is a strict professor, she recognizes the fear many people have about public speaking, and gives ample extra credit opportunities to help boost grades.
This class can be very simple if you do the work. Larson is HILARIOUS but she is always there to help you if you need it. She makes you feel comfortable when it is time to present your speech so if you have a fear of public speaking, this Professor is the one to choose. There are a BUNCH of extra credit opportunities so passing this is easy.
Larson was truly a fun professor. Im such a shy person and taking this class was intimidating but she was such a ray of sunshine to keep you away from the nerves and frights of having stage fright I truly enjoyed having her as my professor!
As generic as a summarization as this is, it truly is as easy as you make it. A great teacher who is very understanding and nice, but still grades things seriously and fairly. Also very honest about pretty much anything which is a big plus. Honestly no major complaints besides the harsh grading, but still definitely one of the better teachers here.
She's a tough grader, but you'll likely receive good criticism to improve future assignments and speeches. It's important to attend her class, as she always goes over what she expects by the following week and often gives helpful tips for speeches. She doesn't accept late assignments at all but offers a lot of extra credit!
Larson is a very honest and fun professor. She provides help if needed, gives amazing feedback and also allows you to receive extra credit within class participation and among other extra credit activities. Larson is truly an amazing speech instructor and sees the best in everyone when it comes to speaking within the class.
Larson is hands down my favorite teacher at ECC. She's down-to-earth and respectful, not to mention hilarious. Throughout the year, we have four speeches and a final, Larson is always willing to offer help, you just need to ask. She also provides plenty of opportunities for extra credit. Overall, she's a fantastic teacher. I highly recommend her!

Larson is a great professor and she made giving speeches less intimidating. Her expectations are clear and she is very helpful during the process of constructing speeches and gives great feedback. I think she grades very fair because speeches are supposed to meet certain criteria for it to be effective depending on the purpose.
Larson is an amazing teacher. As a first year student, I was overwhelmed as soon as I got the class syllabus. But I was worried for nothing. She has the ability to make information interesting and I was like a sponge soaking it all in. Do the work, ask questions and this class will be a great experience.
Larson is strict and does not accept any late work, but she offers a lot of extra credit opportunities. I was anxious about taking this class, but she made me feel more comfortable. I like that she does not call on you, but she does give points for participation. She is clear on what she expects. Overall, she is a great professor.
This professor is "down-to-Earth" and is able to connect with her students, creating an open and friendly environment that allows you to grow comfortable as the semester progresses. In doing so she is able to convey the art of performing a speech effectively to her students, making it easy to get over the fear of public speaking.
Professor Larson is great! She really seems to care and makes you feel comfortable in her class as well always open, understanding, and flexible for her students. I really do like when she announces assignments and lets us know in which aspects she will be strict on and how it will affect our grade.
Larson is wonderful and overall my favorite professor as this is my second semester in college. Throughout this course, she gives amazing and helpful feedback, she gives great advice and is helpful in the process and understanding of making an outline and presenting a speech. she also gives a lot of extra credit opportunities throughout the course.
Larson is a rather tough grader. If you anxious on public speaking I recommend her class. We were broken into groups of 6-8 people and only the last presentation in a a group with all peers. In this class there's lot of extra credit assignments,You shouldn't depend on this to pass. Highly recommend this class!
Overall great teacher, very understanding and nice but still takes grading seriously but fairly. Also gives a ton of extra credit opportunities which is really nice, just be sure to do all your assignments on time and you should be good in this class.
I was anxious of public speaking but Larson is a really great teacher. She grades fair and gives a lot of extra credit opportunities make sure to do all your assignments and you should be fine. She is also accessible outside of class incase you struggle with anything. She splits us into groups to present in front of which I liked.
Larson is super easy to talk to and makes speech super chill. If you are generally good at giving speeches, this class will definitely be a breeze. She also gives a lot of extra credit even though she is a strict grader. I never got the textbook but the speeches carry your grade mostly so its fine tbh because all the quizzes are open note
I took a 5 week-long summer class, and Larson helped make it go by very smoothly. The schedule was consistent from week to week, and she made it very easy to get everything done in class. Her feedback is also constructive and helpful when it comes to improving your performance from speech to speech. There are also many extra credit opportunities!
Larson was great, I took her summer speech course and it wasn't all that bad. Be prepared to do a lot of speeches and receive feedback. She's a pretty chill teacher as long as you put in the work, there are lots of group activities and extra credit opportunities. Overall great class and teacher so don't be afraid to ask questions.
I took Larson's 5 week summer class, and she was really helpful. If you need help with an assignment, she will be happy to help you. She also gives a variety of assignments to do for extra credit (at least in the summer). The only thing is do not miss or be late to presentation days because you will lose points that you can't get back!
Larson is one of the best professors. I took her class in the summer, which lasted only five weeks. The class taught me to have a sense of urgency. She is very helpful and gives really good feedback. She is very easy to talk to and will help you during her office hours. Larson does expect you to do the work and your absolute best.
Larson is great. She makes you feel comfortable when presenting. The presentations (during the summer) are in small groups, which made me feel less nervous. For each presentation there is a grading criterion that tells you exactly what will be graded and the max points for each section. Larson also gives extra credit.
I highly recommend my professor! Larson exceptionally helpful and always willing to help. Whether it's preparing speeches or finding sources, she makes the process seamless and stress free. Her grading criteria are fair, providing genuine feedback. Additionallly, she presents her own speeches to help students better understand the material.
Great teacher. Has a great personality and is very passionate in what she teaches. You'll pass her class as long you do all of your assignments and go to class with your speeches prepared. Homework assignments aren't a big time taker as well as the extra credit which she loves to give.
Larson's speech assignments were well-organized and easy to understand. Completing all the speeches is essential for passing the course; missing one will result in automatic failure. There are plenty of opportunities for extra credit. The accelerated summer course workload felt manageable, stay on Larson's good side and you'll be okay!
don't take unless you wanna go home and have to come back within the period wearing exactly what she wants because the whole class didn't look formal enough. this was absolutely ridiculous and such a waste of time and our other option was practically to not get any credit. seriously was stressful for no reason.
Great professor, would recommend it. She's a pretty easygoing professor with a great personality and a passion for teaching. You'll pass her class as long as you complete your assignments and go to class with your speeches prepared. Homework assignments don't take much time; there are lots of group activities and extra credit opportunities.
Awesome professor. Take this class if you dont like homework
Professor Larson is a great professor. She offers a lot of extra credit opportunities in case you are falling behind in her class. However, be aware of deadlines and requirements she provides as if you miss any it can lead to large amounts of point deduction.
Professor Larson is an awesome professor! From the first day of class, it was evident that she was a caring person who was passionate about her work. Larson offers a lot of extra credit points, which is super cool. You will pass as long as you do all of your work and turn it in on time. Speeches are mandatory to pass.
Larson is a great professor who makes the accelerated summer course manageable. Engaging in all the speeches and staying on her good side are key. unstuck AI was a helpful study tool alongside the textbook.

Larson always says to think of her as a life coach. She is very welcoming to all students, makes funny jokes, and gives you enough time for assignments
It's okay if you miss class but try not to class is entertaining and fun to be here and participate.
Professor Larson does an outstanding job at structuring the class, giving everyone plenty of time to complete assignments without making it a heavy, homework-based class. This allows more time to be given to important projects like our speeches instead of being distracted by too much side work.
Professor offers a casual teaching style while also emphasizing the importance of the class and participation. There is a lot of extra credit offered however a good grade is easily achievable through following the expectations/rubrics and completing work on time. No late work accepted.
She was great in my first speech class. She helped me gain the confidence and skills needed to give a good public speech. She was very professional.

Larson was great ! She enjoys our presentations and makes it so fun to participate in class.
Larson is a really understanding and helpful professor. Don't be afraid to take this course even if you struggle with public speaking, she is great at making you feel comfortable and supported. Although I don't plan on a career filled with public speaking, thanks to Larson I feel that I can give an alright speech if needed.
Larson is was a great and helpful professor. She is well organized and shows you how to structure your speeches for your presentations. Always try to engage in activities because it can help you with speaking and with social skills. She also gives extra credit, which is very helpful.
Expectations are clear from the start and there are boundless extra credit opportunities. Grading is fair and feedback is clear and fair as well. Workload is light and most work can be done in class. Speeches themselves aren't intimidating because of how clear the expectations are.
Overall Professor Larson enjoyed what she taught and felt confident that we as students would succeed in her class. Her grading was very interesting she is anal on the formatting of assignments such as outlines and homework assignments. So really look over her syllabus and follow her guidelines or she will take points off.
I took her class over the summer. She was incredibly kind and made it clear what she expected of students. She's very laid back and is accessible outside of class. The assignments were pretty easy, and she made sure that students felt comfortable while they were giving speeches.

She also gives a bunch of extra credit opportunities.

She is super fun and insightful Clear expectations come to class! helps with extra credit and her classes are never boring Take her if you can
Professor Larson is funny and caring and her class is fun if you participate, and she give a lot of extra credit opportunities.
She was awesome. You don't need to buy the textbook. She gave great feedback for all of your speeches. Plenty of opportunities for extra credit. If you maintain around a 99% throughout the course you can be exempt from the final exam/speech. She has strict deadlines but there are enough assignments to help out if you miss one. 100% recommend.
Larson is the best! Honestly! She presents in the beginning of the class and then explains what she's looking for when YOU present. She's so helpful, always available when I came to her for clarification. Speeches are presented to a smaller group so it wasn't so nerve wracking! The topics are interesting! She learns everyone's name. She's awesome!
This class was definitely beneficial to becoming more confident in my speaking. There are SOOO many extra credit opportunities that you should take advantage of and there are a total of 4 speeches, one being a group presentation. The only worry about this class is the time restrictions but its not that hard.
Larson is amazing in terms of letting you know what she EXACTLY what she wants from you with speeches and is always available to give feedback and help when needed. MANY of opportunities for extra credit! Textbook work is super easy and helpful. She's also amazing with connecting to her students in a positive way and makes you laugh all the time :)
loved her. she is funny, kind, and understanding. none of the assignments are like annoying busy work-everything actually makes sense. only 1 group speech but wasn't bad at all. you have time to work on all the speeches during class time. attendance is not graded. overall easy and not a stressful class. i definitely recommend.
Honestly, the professor is fun I love how she teaches, I won't change anything. Also, during speeches don't be late I learned the hard way lol. I love her teaching style she makes every assignment fun and with a twist. 10/10 would take again
Honestly, the professor is fun I love how she teaches, I won't change anything. Also, during speeches don't be late I learned the hard way lol. I love her teaching style she makes every assignment fun and with a twist. 10/10 would take again. She only had one group project that was fun
Larson is a decent teacher, she's lowkey funny and gives out a decent amount of extra credit, but at the same time the grading is pretty rough, if you're late on a assignment or even a proposal on a topic that's 20 points off & don't try to contact her via email or phone because she will not get back to you. I'd take the class again tho.
Larson was Great! She is a great professor and she really cares about her students. There is absolutely NO late submissions, but the work is not hard or timely so just do it.
Overall enjoyed the class !
Loved this class! Larson had several fun and engaging activities, and really made the class feel comfortable when it came to speaking. She gave great feedback and graded fair. Just beware that late work is not accepted at all, but if you do miss something there's lots of extra credit opportunities. Highly recommend!
The instructor is extremely organized and has everything posted for you to do. Everything is pretty straight forward as long as you show up to class. I like that she treats students like adults. I also respected that she does expect you to do your work and if it is not done that is on you.
She made the class less nerve-racking-- her attitude and personality just set the friendly and welcoming vibe for the class. We had in-class time to work on many of the outlines or assignments. We had autonomy on workdays, which was nice. Overall, the class felt comfortable to be in and easy to follow.
I had a great experience with Ms. Larson as my teacher. She was extremely nice and respectful to all her students, always treating everyone fairly. This class is pretty straightforward. Keep up with your class work and take advantage of extra credit. This professor and class do a good job of making you comfortable speaking in front of an audience.
Professor Larson brought a great sense of humor to the classroom, making the course engaging and enjoyable. While her grading can be strict, it is fair as long as you follow the instructions carefully. Overall, I had a positive experience and would definitely recommend her to other students.
