Participate in discussions, take notes, do not show up late, and DO NOT use your cellphone in class. If you understand politics good then you will pass. He gives test but they are either what was discussed in class or quizzes in the book, so make sure to read. He doesn't care if you ask stupid question, instead he will gladly answer it and make sure that you and the whole class understands. Also, very fair grader if you are international student .

One of the best teachers I've had in college. Textbook & attendance mandatory. He makes the lectures interesting by involving the class & using real world examples, not just lecturing from the text. Tests are a little tricky & sometimes very long. Canvas isn't used at all; everything must be on paper and given to him in person. A+ professor.

Professor Alvarez is an electric presence in class. His lectures are fun and engaging, making the most mundane topics in law interesting. He tends to go through lessons pretty quickly. He cares far more that you're actually paying attention then grades. As long as you put your best foot forward and show effort you should do be able to do well.

This class made learning about American government and politics fun and interesting. I looked forward as to going to this class. He knows how to balance both learning and fun within one another and I genuinely learned a lot in his class. We only really had weekly quizzes and short essays, which is pretty simple if you know to manage your time.

He was a great professor made the whole class laugh and gave out great examples to the topics/chapters we were on. The only tough thing about this class were the quizzes, you are allowed notes during the quizzes so just show up and takes notes and you should be good. There was one essay for this class it was not hard. I really recommend this class.

Best professor ever! He is very kind and makes all lectures very fun. Attendance is mandatory. Only 5 short quizzes and one paper (but drops lowest quiz grade). Says "book is mandatory" but never used the book unless you really have trouble understanding lectures which is very rare. Make sure to pay attention to lectures since PP's are not posted.

He is a great teacher, but just be ready for his quizzes because they could be a bit hard if you don't study. His way of teaching is unique; he adds scenarios that can be seen thoroughly.

He has a way of teaching where you actually get to understand the depth of the topics instead of memorizing for a semester and forgetting everything afterwards. His quizzes are little hard, though. I would just suggest practicing scenerio based questions instead of paying too much attention in the specfics of the topic to do better in tests.
