Great teacher! Interesting, funny, my favorite prof at McGill.

So funny! Great sense of humour and odd facts make lectures enjoyable! (wow!)
Prof. Fenster rocks my world!

The most amazing prof.Very easy to talk to and his lectures are very interesting
Hilarious, Loves James Bond!
told to many stories, didn't teach the facts enough
Very nice professor, and helpful, among one of my favourite professors I've had
No Comments
Great prof with a great love for chemistry. Exams a bit too specific, though.
makes learning fun!
Really interesting lectures, but real hard exam
LECTURE ON MONEY WAS VERY INTERESTING
No Comments
an absolutely wonderful prof - really knows his stuff and makes the lectures interesting. Brings context into chem
great classes that let you chill for a bit.. take notes on the stuff he says in class and study it an you'll be set

SUCH A GOOD PROF!!Interesting, clear, funny... remember, it all starts with NO
very helpful... most friendliest professor I've met.
Fenster was funny and informative. Also, approachable too!
Brilliant like shwarcz, but without the arrogance. Really a great guy and prof.
Good teacher, but when historical asides comprise 25% of the midterm, it gets hard to study. Make sure you study them and do the practice problems he assigns.
GREAT PROF
Brilliant. One of the best. Too bad I didn't study...
Cracks a couple of good jokes and does his best to make class interesting. Shouldnt test on pointless chem history but more on useful course material
So interesting. Just as cool as Schwartz but he isn't arrogant like Schwartz. So easy to talk to and he is such a cutey! Much more approachable and he is really funny. Out of Schwartz,Harpp and Fenster, Fenster is the best!
great prof .... just write down everything he says!! he likes to test on the interesting historical facts he brings up in class. if you know them its an extra bonus on the midterm though.
Really funny, really brilliant!
I'm not big on chemistry, but I almost wanted to do a major in it b/c Fenster was such a great proff. Definately take the World of Chem. classes that he teaches. Bottom line: He's the best prof I've had at McGill
he's a superb prof ..the slides are really good and the interesting stories he tells u during the lectures keep to comin to the classes..
I personally find that he is the best out of the 3 profs: Harpp, Schwarcz & Fenster. He's funny, genuine and very clear. Very willing to help...and the kind of professor who would actually remember your name and say 'hi' to you!
Fenster is an amazing prof. He could make any class interesting. He is definately my fav. at McGill.
Decent teacher, but I don't really care about Bopal India, or the Radium Girls. Just teach me chemistry not history; save it for WoC where people like that uselessness

He's my favourite prof ever. He's so nice & friendly! His notes are fab, his classes are interesting and he genuinely loves what he's doing, which is very contagious. He always ties in the material with real life, which is what university is all about.
his exams have nothing to do with the course material, i didnt like the way he teaches
Great teacher. Makes the class fun and motivating. Very helpful slides.
Really Really great guy - interesting and funny. This class isnt too difficult either... alot of people didnt do so well but they didnt put in the time. VEry interesting subject matter appealing to non-science students and science students alike.

ok...but not too great.
He is a great prof. I love his slides and little stories. But you have to take notes on his stories, he tests you on them. He has a great pace and is overall a great teacher.
i want him to be my grandpa
Fenster is the man. He knows everything! If you can have this guy as a teacher you won't regret it.
Hate his teaching style. Felt like i was being treated like a 3 year old. he whizzes by theory and calculations to tell stories, then tests you equally on both. You end up having to explain some things to yourself. Although he may be good at teaching some courses, really too divergent for chem110
super interesting!he lures you into the world of chemistry
so interesting
I hated the class, but Fenster is a genuinely good guy. The midterm is ~20% stories, so don't expect a test similar to that of Wiseman's. If you already know chemistry, just print off the slides, listen to the lectures online, and take notes.
I very much enjoyed his section of the course...he made it interesting with his stories, though at times he overdid it, I think. The trivia questions on the midterm were a bit annoying, but better than calculations. Really a wonderful lecturer. I am loving chem so far! thanks Fenster and Wiseman!
Way too many stupid analogies that we were tested on. Most of them didn't even have to do with the subject. They were just his random rants
Fenster is the best! His part of the course is the most interesting.. I liked him so much better than Schwarcz
He is a?.....funny teacher...! Good guy, interesting, hardish questions but he's my favourite out of the three teachers for World of Chemistry.
Funny and interesting
I wish we could run away together. I am completely in love with him.
He's a great teacher, his stories are really interesting and he makes Chemistry somewhat less boring. You have to do some studying on your own to do well, but he is quite clear and helpful.
Amazing professor. The best I've had so far.
Fenster is good, and his stories are interesting, but I wish he would just test on theory, rather than on random stories he tells in class. Still, he's a decent prof, and his lectures are pretty fun, as far as chemistry lectures go.
Best Prof ever! Extremely interesting and helps out by mentioning whenever something will be particularly imprtant for the exams. The exams are a little difficult, lots of studying required, but if you do the work you'll do well. FENSTER ROCKS!
Not too hard. Very interesting lectures. But take notes!!!! He tests on random stories
Areil Fenster is a Prof whose passionate about what he's teaching. He makes the material fun by providing real-world "FYI" notes, and fun historical discourse, while still keeping the course at sufficient difficulty. Plus, he's very helpful outside of class, Awesome prof.
His lectures are really interesting and when he's covering boring technical material he spends a lot of time going through examples and making sure that concepts are clear.
I'm in love with Prof. Fenster!!! He's funny, caring, dedicated and interesting... and so good-looking!! Go Fenster!! xxx
Fenster is really awesome! He's so nice, so funny and he really knows his stuff.
very cute.. lol pretty easy exams but too much little details
Fenster is cool!! I love the way he focuses on real-life applications of what he teaches in class, so it is easier to understand where these concepts come from and why they are important.
Great prof, tries alot to bring humor and does it well. Also does magic tricks to distract us from time to time. Nothing wrong with the guy. I'd look for other courses he teaches...
Fenster is a really magical prof - literally. I mean, he actually does magic tricks in class. He was kind and helpful, and had a lot of really interesting side stories to share. Great guy.
Good prof. Clear, Interesting lectures. I wish my grandpa was this nice.
prof fenster is really cute.his lectures were generally well explained and interesting.this is not as easy a class as people say so beware.you need to put in a lot of work and memorize little details if you want to do well.
he is awesome

I hated chem before university, lets just say I can tolerate it now. Fenster makes coming to class way to fun. Alot of great scientific anecdotes like "Now, Lets talk about love," amazing!!!!
I LOVE THIS GUY!!! He is the best chem teacher ever! we makes comming to class interesting and fun! I actually want to find another course he teaches and take it. Oh and I hated Chem b4 uni as well.
He's a sweet old man who loves chemistry. Excellent prof!
he is an amazing prof. he makes chemistry easy and fun.
what a great teacher, clarifies stuff really well and makes his lectures interesting.
I always enjoyed attending Professor Fenster's classes. He makes the information fun and interesting (he ate chalk one day to demonstrate his point on stomach chemistry) and I often find myself referring to something he said in class. GREAT PROFESSOR! LOVED HIM! Hope to take more of his classes.
Great guy. I love his accent and his humor.
AMAZING PROF!!! Makes the information VERY interesting and a lot of fun! Definitely take a course with him if you can.
Interesting professor.
He was the funniest chem teacher. His midterm was hard, but the his part on the final was easy. There's no need to go to class, but make sure you watch the online lectures. I never went to a class, and still got 97% on the final.
Talks about nuclear power plants. Showed up one day rocking a backpack, baggy jeans, and a hoodie. How much more ballin' can you get?
I thought he was a nice guy. Interesting stuff in his lectures, pleasant, made chemistry a little more fun. But it wasn't really helpful exam wise, and I forever have a bad impression of him for putting in the side stories and asking about a James Bond villain in the exams. My fault for not catching it in class maybe, but I just don't like that.
Simply a great prof.
I got this prof for CHEM 110, CHEM 120 AND CHEM 150, and I never tired of him. GREAT prof. Fair exams. Clear lectures. If you follow all his lectures, you won't have a problem on the exams. I noticed that he regurgitated most of his interesting side-stories from CHEM150 for the org component of CHEM 120 though.
Had him for CHEM 110 and 120. He was GREAT. So friendly, and really made an effort to make lectures interesting. Convinced me that chemistry could be fun (I was not a fan before this class). You don't HAVE to go to lectures but it's worth it!!!
AMAZING! I looooovvveee fenster. he adds really good details to all his slides and his funny side stories make coming to class enjoyable.
Fenster is the BEST. I had him for CHEM 110, 120 and 222. He's my favourite prof at McGill by far. He explains things clearly and goes on many interesting tangents that relate to what you're learning. He tells lots of jokes and makes the class enjoyable. My 2.5 hour class seems like it's only 30 minutes long! His lectures + textbook notes = A
Fenster is McGill's best. Period.
SPRING BROTHER
baojun
He's a pretty good teacher, but tells too many side stories in class as opposed to teaching chemistry. Normally I wouldn't mind this, but he likes to put (very specific) questions on the midterm about these side stories. At least he knows what he's talking about and it's easy to learn from him.
BEST PROF. I LOVE FENSTER. never really loved chemistry, but fenster makes it unreal!! best stories and magic tricks ever! just - on the midterm, he put a lot of questions about his asides and history, so make sure to study that! i definately recommend a class with this prof. he is one of my favourites! :)
This professor never been my prof but his lectures online helped me get A in my ochem class. He is the best. He made me fell in love with ochem by relating it with the real life! This prof made me understand ochem! He gives a bunch of sample exercises, he explains everything clear and he has patience!!!Thank you prof Fenster!
lots of students enjoy his lecture, and the materials are interesting, but because of his accent it's hard to understand. He barely mention the textbook and the exams he made were horrible.Once he asked the leading actress in a movie.
it's like a history class, dates and events, about nuclear bombs. so go to the lectures and try to remember! he spent two lectures on bombs but just rushes through all the theories, and it sucks.
Had him for chem 110, 120 and 181- best professor at mcgill hands down- he's clear and tells the best stories... people complain about his "history" questions but he is really just trying to complete the picture... it's a pleasure to sit in his class!!!
Had him for CHEM110 and CHEM120. Simply put, he is my favorite professor so far at McGill. No one was more fun than Fenster. Fenster and his demos are engaging and fun. His exams are fair. Just remember his stories during lectures.
Love him!
Great Professor! Things were a little dry in CHEM 110, but thats because the material was itself a bit boring. Fenster is really great when he does O Chem in Chem 120, and going to the lectures is actually really enjoyable!
BEST PROF. Fenster is amazing and extremely interesting.
Take his Organic Chem course during the Summer! Such a great prof, tries to (and succeeds) in making the class very bearable. Smiles a lot and is helpful outside of class. His exams are challenging, but fair. On a side note, not so many side stories showed up on exams this time.
LOVE HIM. One of my fav proffs so far. He is hilarious as makes difficult concepts easy to grasp. Easy to do well as long as you listen to lectures and do practice problems!
I hate his history lessons. I do not mind back stories being provided to support his lectures but testing for them in exams is ridiculous in this course. The answer is not something that you can logically reason out - it is whether you memorized it in lectures or not. And there is A LOT to memorize since he tells a lot of back stories.
Took this in the summer - though classes were near to 3 hours long, they didn't seem that way! He's super helpful, cute and funny, and makes sure that the class understands concepts by doing lots of practice questions - in a pedagogical manner. Exams were very fair, a little tricky, but the mark you get is what you worked for.
Fantastic professor, enthusiastic, clear, great lectures and presentations. Unfortunately only teaches 1/3 of the introductory Chem 110/120 lectures, but you can pick an optional course called Chemistry of Food and Drugs if you want more of him. Exams were challenging but fair. Highly recommended.
His anecdotes are really cool! Pay attention to them, as he will usually put 3-5 questions on his (multiple choice) exams about stuff that's not exactly chemistry but is related to chemisty. Don't panic though, on a 100-question test 4 questions won't kill you. BTW, Ariel Fenster is a GOD. From mount olympus. And he's one of the ænir.
Very fun lectures. The side stories are fun as well, but watch out since they definitely do show up on each exam (like around 10 Qs?). Other questions are very fair. Just listen to the recordings, take notes, and you should be good. He's very helpful and cheerful as well.
well he keeps it interesting with some good demos and tries to tell some stories that relate to the topic at hand ( although sometimes they don't but they're still interesting). Go to class, listen and do the recommended problems and your set.
love this bitty.
Hands down one of my favorite profs at McGill. He explains the concepts well and brings Chemistry to life with his side stories (which are usually related in some way to a good chunk of his exam questions). He made me much more interested in Chemistry.
Great prof! Cares about his students, cares about teaching, loves his subject.
Great Prof. Tries to make class fun and throws in some jokes. Explains material well. Goes into just enough detail so you really understand the concept but doesn't go into pointless minutiae. Studying the notes he gives and doing some problems will assure good scores. Actually makes chemistry interesting and you will look forward to his class!
he is probably the most interesting prof I have had so far... :))) people say he has a lot of questions on side stories, but it's actually not that bad :))
HE IS THE WORST PROFESSOR I HAVE EVER HAD. NEVER MAKES ANY REFERENCES TO MATERIAL, GOES OFF ON POINTLESS TANGENTS THAT AREN'T RELEVANT TO THE CLASS. YOU WILL ACTUALLY BE BETTER OFF NOT GOING TO HIS CLASS AND READING THE TEXT BOOK.
Best professor ever! Passionate about his subject, makes his lectures extremely interesting, great magic show performer. In my opinion tied for the best first year science prof. People somewhat complaining about him testing on side stories (interesting facts that are not in the textbook), but if you attend class you'll have no problem.
great
Great prof. He is clear, funny, and makes the material interesting. People are afraid of being tested on his side stories, but he does not test on them! At least not anymore! They are good for when you need a brain break in class.
Fantastic, really made the class interesting, and the only side stories he tests on are interesting and completely relevant to the material
He's great! His side stories are interesting and keep you from falling asleep. I really enjoyed his lectures despite not being the biggest chemistry buff.
Leats favorite lecturer of the WOC crew but they are all very good. This is a very interesting course but beware, no0t as easy at it looks. Buy the NTCs and re-read them and you should be fine.
terrible because he focuses on side stories and not actual content
Interesting and patient with people asking questions in class.
it's like being in kindergarten all over again. I loved his lectures. You just sit back, watch videos, listen to super interesting side stories and actually learn! Personally, my favourite chem prof.
Fenster is the tsar bomba in the world of chemistry. Made me laugh every class. The Man.
Listen to his stories and don't bother reading the text.
legend!
His jokes are hilarious. Makes good use of his time. You will learn a lot when you attend class.
Fenster incorporates Chemistry into History making for great lectures and an even easier time trying to learn the material. Solid Prof!
I love Fenster!! he is a great prof. His exams are super easy. Make sure to listen to all the details in his stories during lectures because he puts the stories in the exams. The materials he cover are really interesting too!
I took World of Chem Drugs with Fenster, and he was fantastic. Very funny, genuinely nice and sincere man. There is no textbook so you must attend class, but attending is enough as long as you take your own notes. He is very understanding, also, that not everyone has a background in chemistry and explains things for the common arts student.
Awesome prof! Has fun demonstrations, and explains things clearly. Listen to his random stories though, they appear on the exams!!
His classes are really interesting! The course in general is a great one but I loved Fenster's lectures and his little stories that always had a twist in them :) He's a great prof to have :)
Great Prof! He's very clear and classes are interesting! Fun class
HE MADE ME FALLIN INLOVE WITH CHEMISTRY!!LOVE HIM!!
Very good prof
This teacher deserves an award. He is outstanding. Makes the material very interesting and loves his job. I have taken 2 of his classes and loved both of them. Would highly recommend.
He's such a cutie and funny.
Fenster is an amazing professor, like just watching his lectures brightens up your mood and his CHEM181 lectures were so clear and enlightening, making it really easy to study for the exams. Love this prof, he's adorable and his humour is amazing!
Loved this prof!! Chem 181 is a very easy course as it is online and open book now but the profs made it even better. He is very funny and brightens up the room. I am a management student so not at all into chemistry but the course is very interesting and the prof is adorable!
