I reccommend people take her for 100. Her assignments are unlike other English classes , you can actually be a little creative. She is also very helpful. Too bad her Eng 101 is on a Saturday.

I liked Ms. Contos so much. She is the most articulate teacher that anyone can have and is very inviting to all viewpoints. Be prepare to think in her class however because there is a lot of work in it. I rate this among one of the best classes I've taken

I took her for English 100 and 101 and got A's. I was a terrible writer until I took her class. She taught me everything! I would like to defend her from those harsh comments. Anyone who thinks she is hard are lazy and did not put in enough work. She is the best english teacher I have ever had.

I took for my English class and loved it. I got an A in her class and found her to be very helpful. I really learned how to write in her class. You will have to put in some work and many people in my class said that the reading load was heavy, but I learned to write in ways that never would have thought.

I never liked reading. I never liked writing. This professor change that for me. Though not the easiest of graders, I survived and passed all three of the classes I took from her. She really wants you to learn. How many teachers do that these days?

Best professor that I have ever known.

I am taking ENG 099 during summer and I LOVE IT! I can see that she really cares about students and wants us to actually learn. She proofreads your essays before turning them in and give you an oppurtunity to rewrite it. Her class is not boring, and you can actually learn! Very recommended! I will take her again for my other English classes.

She is awsome! She gives relatively a lot of work, but you learn! She is very clear about what she wants from essays and try to give oppurtunities to raise our grade. I am getting an A in this class. Take her. You will learn.

good teacher, but her 4 hour saturday class gets really boring really fast. grading is mostly focused on 5 essays with a few short essays assigned. she's willing to help you with your essays via email and after class so you get a better grade.

Contos is very nice you could sleep through the class but make sure you read the writing techniques on your own, and write ur 5 essays and pass. she allows essay rewrites. i found myself bored and fell asleep nearly every day. if your a student like me who needs enthusiastic teachers to get really enjoy a class....not a teacher for you...

I loved her. She is a very nice person and wants to help you do well. Essay rewrites are mandatory, but she gives you clear ideas on how to make your paper better after grading your first final draft. I would definately take her again!

She's is the coolest Eng prof. ever. I'm taking her Eng 100 at the moment. I'm learning alot on how to write a good paper. Class REquirement: 4 essays + 1 Final(Research paper). She grades fair on the paper. +5points extra credit on every rewrite essay. HIGHLY RECOMMANDED for an easy A and knowledge about writing.

Sweet lady. i became a better writer because of her. I hadn't written an essay in like 3 years and i made an A in her class. DO THE RE-WRITES! that kept me at an A. lectures can be a bit boring but she gets the point across and its easy to understand! she's awesome!

She is a very good teacher. The techniques that she uses helps you look at English from a different aspect. I learned how to become effectively more detailed in my essays. nothing too bad that I can say about her. take her you won't regret... unless you're lazy.

Bring your textbooks to class or else she will mark you absent. Do the re-writes. This class is mainly writing essays, no oral presentations required. She likes to go on off-topic rants. Can be very unfair with grading.

Contos is such a sweet professor. I'm glad i took her for 100 because you learn ALOT. Its a really easy class if you just attend because there are in-class exercises worth 5 , and take 2-3 hours to write a paper. Do the revisions; all you have to do is just change what she changed (even though she says she wont give you credit if you do JUST that).

Her lectures are boring as hell, but she'll go out of her way to help you become a better writer. She's extremely passionate about what she teaches. Quizzes aren't something you should fret about because the essays are 80% of your grade; do try to write them well. She grades everyone based on their individual writing skills. Books are mandatory.

She is AMAZING. Very sweet! Very helpful. I had her both for English 100 and English 101. She really cares for her students and wants them to learn. She'll do her best to help you. Finally,a professor who tells us things that we can use! She is not for the text-messaging-in-class addict, the one who needs instant gratification or the one who insists on leaving class more than 3 times in one session. Do us all a favor. Stay out of her class and other ones. Contos is a fair grader with results in the students who care.

If you are complaining about the difficulty in this class, then you are probably just lazy and didn't do the work. Yes, there are six essays, but they were only 2-4 pages each! She even lets you re-write each essay you do for additional points!

A pretty easy A not because she is easy but because she is structured, clear on what she wants,helpful and is not too tough of a grader. Minimal homework and the essays are layer out for you, plus you can rewrite them all. I am so sad I can't have her again because she changed my whole view on writing. AMAZINGGG PROFESSO TAKE HER.

Tough essay grader. Wants every word on your essay to be perfect. Felt like i was gona be an author after. 6 essays. one research paper 5pgs.essay rewrites=5pts. Bad thing is every essay comes after the other no room to breath. Not bad, but if your not an essay person pick somone else. Barley gave As on essays. RARE

90% of your grade is based on essay. Most people average a B on each essay, rewrites worth 5 points but it's hard to get full 5 points. She's REALLY chill, lectures are boring. 6 essays total and one 5 page research paper. If you are a good writer then this class shouldn't be a problem. The only problem is the deadlines and essays after another.

In-class quiz, Passionate lectures, Her choice on essay topics are very abstract and require deep thought. Overall she is a great professor. Rewrites will help your grade.

Without any doubt, the best English professor I have ever had. In just 16 weeks, I learned more in her class than all four years of English classes. Professor Contos is very approachable and extremely kind. Be prepared to work, however. Essay process requires time-management. You will learn a lot, however. Amazing professor. Highly Recommended.

best professor. 3 take home essays, 3 in class essays, one midterm and few essay quizzes. the quizzes have only a few points and the midterm is super easy grammar test so dont worry about them. you will work hard and get an A. in fact I'm an international student and been here for only a year but i got an A. not easy but really helpful. take her!!!

Super awesome and sweet teacher! She is extremely helpful if you are unclear on something. Some quizzes And one midterm test. A total of 6 essays, 2 in class and one being the research paper which only needs to be 4-6 pages. She encourages you to be creative with the papers. I learned a lot from her. Great teacher. Just get all the work done on time and keep up with all the assignments and you should pass. Don't take if your trying to do nothing.

Professor Contos is the best! She knows a lot, and does a great job communicating what is expected of you on each essay. Getting a B shouldn't be too hard, but if you want to get an A, be prepared to do some work. Definitely the teacher to take for English 100!

Contos is literally AMAZING. I spent years avoiding the necessary english classes needed to graduate, English and tons of writing scared me. I was intimidated. Glad I chose her, I love writing now. Best thing a teacher can have is passion, she loves what she teaches and her energy and enthusiasm rub off and make the subject interesting. TAKE HER

Contos' class is extremely easy. Really, you only need to show up and do the essays. the essays are not hard what-so-ever. She also allows optional rewrites for every essay and you can get up to 5 points extra. I highly recommend this class, especially if you have a difficult time in eng. do the rewrites!! extremely easy A.

Professor Contos is a great professor, clearly passes all the information you need to know. She will always help you if you have any questions, and she gives a 5 points extra for any essay rewrite that you will make after its been graded (the rewrite is easy since she tells you what your mistakes are when she's grading it).

Take her if you want to really learn the material and get something out of an English class.

4 take-home essays (including 1 big research paper as final), 1 in-class essay, progress reflection after each essay, rewrite for up to 10 points, some in-class writing (usually paragraphs), 1 grammar mid-term (pretty easy). Cons: Professor Contos usually gives a B on essays. No extra credits at all. Pros: Expectations are clear. She is helpful

Extremely good English teacher. Best English teacher I ever had, shed light on many of the questions I have had for many years. A little bit hard if you aren't amazing at English, but she marks your entire paper red to show you all your mistakes.

Not a difficult class. Everything is straight forward. 4 essays including 1 in class , so 5 total.

I have never enjoyed an English class more in my life. Professor Contos is so precise and clear with what she wants from you. The Adios book assigned for class is so interesting you'll voluntarily read it. Honestly one of the most caring, nice, and knowledgeable English professors out there. 100/10

Definitely, an english class that was worth it. Very clear structure of the class! Loved it. I got to learn a lot. Tip: ask for essay samples to get an idea of what she wants. I got above 90 percent for all 5 essays. She's a decent grader

Good teacher, tough grader! 5 take home essays and 1 in class. No exams. She does not provide your grade until after the semester is over, even If you ask. However, you can forecast your grade by taking your average total on the essays.

So the grades are like 95% based on essays alone so if you dont get As on all the essays its pretty difficult to get an A in the class. I took her twice and Contos is genuinely the best English teacher Ive had. I am a much better writer thanks to her.

Really harps on sentence structure and punctuation, but will make you a better writer. She discusses story highlights making essays easier - she won't say "write about this" so pay attention. Take notes. She doesn't post lectures. Discussions don't require responses; do it for extra points to help your grade. She actually cares about the class.

4 take home essays, 1 in person essay (midterm). She gives out very few 10/10's. Got 9/10 for everything and feedback was ok. Writing is 95% of our grade, 5% is reading check quizzes. Some discussion boards worth 1 pt each. Had to buy 4 novels to complete essays (cheap on amazon). She's a nice person tho. No office hrs unless you email, old skool

The stories she chooses are interesting and she gives plenty of time for you to read them. Her grading on the 5 essays is pretty clear after essay 1. Her lectures give the tools needed for students to make the best effort towards their essays. Not an easy class, but one that you will greatly benefit from.

Update: I pass with a B---> Good professor, has informative lecture, willing to help if you put in the work! Don't regret failing her class because I learn a lot, Old school teacher and a little bit unorganized in a canvas bunch of files where you have to search for nonetheless worth the time and money TAKES HER!
