Horrible teacher was a waste of time and money for this class. Very arrogant and clearly wasn't interested in hearing what anyone else had to say or think.
I loved the class because it was really interesting and I thought he was a nice guy but his tests were almost impossible to take. He doesn't test on facts, just concepts. The whole class is super confusing. Taking notes is impossible because nothing is clear. I don't think he's a great teacher...
This instructor wasn't you average instructor. He tested on concepts, didn't make it clear as to what to study and made the test insane. Overall he is a nice person but that did not help with understanding. I studied hard and still felt unprepared for the test.
Mr. S is one of the most intelligent instructor I've had. I liked listening to him lecture. But his tests are much too difficult. SOC 101 is an intro class, it was not necessary to be so difficult. I know a lot of people didn't like him as an instructor. I probably wouldn't take any more of him classes.
Smartest professor I had my first semester at Tri-County. Emphasizes the importance of inspiring interest in class, and not just giving out good grades. You get out of the class what you put into it. I really enjoyed his class even though it was my most difficult one.
Fantastic teacher very intelligent the material is not easy and the tests are somewhat hard. This class is not an easy A but if you decide to take it you will learn something and you should pass. Only 4 grades for the class Exam 1 & 2, Final, and Participation. Plus an attendance bonus. Did not use book, or that online crap. Would recommend.
Never lets you out early, and will talk for the entire time. He is very smart, but if you don't pay attention, you won't pass. His tests and quizzes are extremely hard, but he grades on a curve. Be sure not to miss a class, or else you'll miss out on 10 bonus points. Take notes on everything. Speak up in class, because he grades on participation
He give extremely difficult exams that sometimes don't reflect notes on a socially correct level for a SOC-101 course.
You'll start off learning easy concepts & examples, you'll be glad about not having homework write papers. You'll take 1 of just 2 exams. The questions will make you feel like you've never been to a single class, & you'll fail no matter how longhard you study, you'll take the 2nd exam & do worse. Great guy, horrendous professor. DO NOT TAKE. RUN.
He is very nice and really smart, but he makes his class way harder than it needs to be. He will talk the entire period and go off on tangents that have nothing to do with the course. His three test he gives are basically impossible to get even a C on. i would not recommend taking any of his classes.
3 tests, a participation grade, and an attendance bonus make up your grade. Had 20 questions on all tests. Listen when he lectures, the extra reading on BB won't hurt to read, nor selections from the book (on your own) as they all can be test questions. Doesn't assign homework, but this class is not an easy A. A very intelligent instructor.
To begin the class he tells you that perfect attendance the whole year means 10 bonus points for your overall grade. Sounds great right? Tests are 6 multiple choice and 5 essay questions. He teaches the class with PowerPoints that have one word on each slide. After the first test he then tells you usually half the class drops.
If you are expecting an easy A class that is spoon fed to you, don't take this class. If you want to learn, and are good with putting in a bit of work, you will probably enjoy this class. Interesting topics and lectures. He does a great job of making the topics relatable and easy to understand.
I took this class because it fit in my schedule. Little did I know it would turn out to be my favorite class of college so far. Anyone who is actually in college to learn and get something out of it will love this class.
Worse professor. Before the 1st test he says that he doesn't understand why he should make a test on what he teaches. Worse class. Nothing he says makes since and the questions on his test are opinion based. If you don't share his opinion you will get it wrong. Do not take his class!!!
HORRIBLE Class and professor! DO NOT take this professor! Your grade consists of 2 tests and a final! His lectures are long and drawn out and he is NOT helpful when asking questions. Do not take him!!!
The class consists of three tests; two exams and a final exam. The tests are set up with six multiple choice and four essay questions. If you keep perfect attendance, he adds ten points to your final grade, so go! Take plenty of notes and read the book and you should be golden.
Really knowledgeable, and pretty funny, but make sure you come to class! His tests are not impossible but you definitely have to pay very close attention and read! he's a nice guy and will explain everything to you if you ask, but be sure you participate and GO TO CLASS!! lectures are extremely long though, and powerpoints can be confusing
He's not your typical teacher & this is not your typical class, if you go in expecting to fail then you'll fail. If you go in with an open mind, participate in discussions, take notes, ACTUALLY read, you'll be fine! Going into depth about your answers is make or brake, make it work. Possible 12 extra pts on final (aka 78C to 90A). New outlook on
Its definitely a difficult course but the material is really interesting. It makes you think outside the box.
This professor is the worst!!! There are only two tests and they only have 6-7 questions on them. It takes him forever to get grades back to you. Also, he makes you feel as if barely passing is what you should expect out of his class and normal. Don't take it!!!
Literally, one of the worst. He doesn't really make any sense, you can barely take notes, and he only give two tests and a final. He does give an attendance bonus thats factored into your grade. But if you miss at least one day and lose that bonus, say bye bye to your grade. i WONT NEVER take this teacher again. if you value your GPA, stay away!
Do NOT take his class. The notes are unorganized, & the lectures are rambling at best. The quality of his lecture does not prepare you for the tests. He does keep the class interested, & there is a lot of group discussion, but the lack of order keeps you from learning. The tests are totally inappropriate given the lectures. RUN AWAY.
Sechandice has a brilliant mind. Through his Sociology class, its opened my eyes to not judge a book by its color and view any person place or situation without bias. Hes a true sociologist from studying his class reactions to lectures/class debates on Socialism vs Capitalism. I recommend this class highly !!! Take good notes!!! They work!!!
This teacher is literally the worst. This class killed my GPA. His tests are worth 90% and participation is 10%. You only get two tests and a final. You could work so hard and still fail. If you value your GPA DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!!!!!
Very smart guy. I learned a lot in his class but he really needs to figure out a way to make sure that some students can get A's or B's more easily. I feel like I deserve an A or B but am not going to get one even though I listened to every lecture intently. He values academic rigor a lot.
Hes a brilliant man, and while his lectures tend to ramble and be somewhat chaotic I have never enjoyed a class like I did this one. READ THE BOOK. He also appreciates participation a lot and will like you more.
Great teacher! The class is difficult but definitely worth it. People complain about this class but that is just because they are lazy he makes you work and really learn doesn't just hand out grades. This course will make you a better student.
I enjoy the class and look forward to each meeting.
Definitely my least favorite class EVER. Sechandice ruined my learning experience for this subject. He is a terrible professor. If you get him, RUN. DROP THE CLASS. He claims that he will give you ten extra credit points if you show up to each class (which is nice) but definitely hard to accomplish especially when sick. He rambles a lot also. RUN.
A top dollar education at a bargain price because Mr. Sechandice is committed to teaching without compromising high educational standards. If a student wants to skate by to mediocrity then this class is not for that student. If a student wants to learn and acquire the critical thinking skills needed for a successful life, it is not to miss!
Top dollar education for a bargain price. If a student wants to skate to mediocracy then this class is not for that student. Mr. Sechandice is uncompromising in his commitment to high standards and cares in helping to develop the critical thinking skills necessary for future success. His class is fun as he skillfully brings Sociology to life.
Hes smart and he knows it. He has a kind of "holier than thou" attitude that rubbed me the wrong way. At the beginning of the semester he claims that he will completely blow your mind and change everything you thought you knew, and if your previous values are still what you believe, then you didn't learn anything. That also rubbed me the wrong way.
Very misunderstood teacher, If you do your work and listen youll do fine
Just listen and go to class youll be fine
This professor truly cares about his students
He is very smart, sometimes need him to slow down to understand. However he truely cares about your education
He assigns groups to help with studying, If you follow his guidelines you will be fine.
Just show up and do the readings and you will be fine.
This man is probably the most intellectual teacher in this school and is very dedicated to his craft and his students. He is a respectable, down to earth individual once you get to know him, but may appear pretentious or intimidating at first. If you attend class regularly, participate in discussions, study for exams, etc. you will pass. 5/5 *****
The content is easy, however, the class was very difficult to pass because his cockiness got in the way of his teaching. He a very intelligent professor, but lacks compassion, strategy, and communication skills. He expects students to answer questions EXACTLY how he wants it, and if every word is not the same as his words, it's considered incorrect
Do not take this class. It would be easier to just take it online. Tests that don't relate to topics, quizzes are only one question for a 25 page reading. Gets off topic super quick. If you take this class, RUN.
If you get him, drop the class immediately. You have to pass one of 5 reading quizzes in order to pass the whole class (even with a 70 or above) and the quizzes are about one specific detail from 25 pg essay readings. I even got a quiz reading right (he literally said on the paper "I can tell you read this") but I got all wrong. It's all or nothing
This class seems like it should be easy but his tests are nowhere close to what you talk about in class. He is also a very hard grader. If you don't answer a question the way he would it's wrong. When a 70 on a test is a good score you know there's a problem. You can tell he's very knowledgable his teaching style just isn't effective for me.
Just do not take him. Do not do it. Not a good professor and the class will not teach you anything. RUN.
Went into this class expecting an easy gpa boost, was completed wrong. Only 3 tests that you will not pass because the content on the test is not even remotely mentioned in class and those are your only grades. Do not take him as your teacher you will regret it! RUN
I have never met a worse professor in my life. I have always done well in school and will always put in the extra effort to get the grade which was why when I heard that I shouldn't take this professor I thought I would be able to handle it. I was wrong, this professor is a total hypocrite and doesn't care about the effort you put in. DONT TAKE
He stresses the crap out of you, talks a lot, and you never have a clue what could be on the test, LOTS of reading. He does seem to think he is doing us a justice by challenging us, but he stresses you out. GO TO HIS OFFICE AND DISCUSS ANY CONCERNS I am convinced that that's how I got an A, by showing I cared!
One of the worst professors at Tri-County. 5 quizzes, 3 tests. Each quiz can only be passed if you answer one question about a specific detail in a 25pg reading giving a night or two before. Rambles a lot, loses topic, and flat out lies about knowing topics. Take online, dropped my GPA so immensely, I lost 3 scholarships with A's and B's in others
Terrible professor. Huge waste of time and money. I missed the deadline to drop this class and paid heavily for it. I spent an hour and a half every class confused because of how wild his lectures are.
Absolutely horrible.
Probably the worst professor I've ever had, he started our semester with announcing that most of us would be dropping by the first exam, and he was correct. He rambles on random topics, where you won't know what you're learning. He does not provide any notes, and doesn't really teach during the lectures. No one knew what our first exam was covering
WORST TEACHER EVER. No matter how much you pay attention, take notes, and study, the information on the tests is NOT what you learned in class. On top of that, there are only 3 exams for the ENTIRE SEMESTER. No quizzes, homework, projects, or anything else. So, if you do bad on the exams, you're screwed. I'm warning you now... DROP THIS CLASS.
THIS IS UR WARNING TO DROP!! I read all the rate my professor reviews before and I was like Ill be fine- wrong. Never in my life have I made a C. There were 2 tests (6 questions each) and the final exam (12 questions). Thats it no other grades besides a participation grade. You can study everything and still fail. Highly do not recommend.
Tends to gloat over students not doing well in his class. Lot of "fluff" in his lectures and makes it hard to pull out useful information so make sure you have the textbook!
probably the worst professor I've ever had. Spends the entire class period discussing one topic that you will never see on the test or gloating about how great of a professor he is despite most people failing his class. There is only 3 tests that are 10 questions that make up your entire grade, and no matter how hard I studied, I failed them all.
This was my hardest class for sure! You had to take your own notes based off of what he was talking about, but most of the time I was lost! We only had time for him to explain one topic but it was so random I had a hard time paying attention. Also, we had maybe four tests and that was all of the grades you received (super hard and unrelated)
I would not recommend taking this class at all!!! You are only graded on 4 tests. He is awful. I tried asking him for extra help s and he was not helpful. He knows the information he is teaching just does not teach it in a way for students to understand. I ended up dropping it. Everyone else in my class got an F. Drop it before its too late
Please take his class in person! Loved his lectures, very personal and related information well. tests based off critical thinking and application to sociology as a whole not based off his lectures. If you ask questions and apply his lectures to real life you will do well! His participation grade weighs the most! use an aggregate way of thinking!
A really great teacher, 10/10 very interesting class and is very sweet. 10/10 would take again.
Uses lectures almost exclusively, which does nothing to help visual learners. Terrible habit of going off on tangents and speaking in circles. Poor bedside manner and generally rude. Berates people with professions he deems BS and unnecessary, including people employed at his own workplace such as counselors and success coaches.
He spends the entire class talking about random stuff and its very hard to tell what to take notes on. His tests are very short but he does give quizzes based on readings that do not count against you but can give you a 1% boost to final grade. Says the only males with eating disorders are models and spend 30 minutes saying therapy is wasteful.
I am and have always been a straight A student. I am an intellectual and would deem myself as a top tier academic. With that being said, this class is a joke. The entire class period is spent just listening to debate and people talking amongst the class. The tests are horrific and you never know what to take notes on. There is no way to study.
By far the WOSRT professor at this school.
I wanted to like this class but I could not follow the teaching style of this professor. He starts each topic as if he is reciting a speech, and before you know it he is rambling on about the most obscure topic. As a result, his ability to convey the material clearly is inadequate. I felt unprepared for every test.
It might be interesting but It doesnt help your GPA at all. He tends to talk about things that are irrelevant I am a good student and I studied for hours for his tests and barely passed plus he only has like 3 tests (majority grade) and a quiz (1%) for the whole semester. You have to remember every Minuet detail. Its a lot as an intro class.
Aristide has the weirdest grading scale in the world and you will feel as if your failing the entire term. Though with the curve you receive a 65 on every test will leave you with a B. The lectures are comprised of a debate the entire class period in which you only have to present a concept and be able to logically back it up. Best prof I ever had.
He’s got a lot of hate on here, but the legitimate only way you’ll fail is if you never pay attention/take no notes. He’s not off topic during lectures, he just uses real world context to explain different concepts. There’s a huge curve on every exam, basically no homework, and he’s a great teacher.
If you only miss 1 day of class, you get 10 points added to your grade. Only 6 question tests. No notes, you have to remember everything he teaches and write down everything he says. Can do poorly on every test and make it out with an A, but it's a 50/50 chance. If you can't learn like that then don't take it. Rambles a lot.
literally dont understand a thing this man says and everyone in our class agrees. I've never met such an arrogant person that teaches so poorly.pls drop before you regret it
We cover lots of material & tests are short. We did have choice-only tests, & only 3. We chose this as a class, & people are free to ask for help. The class can be hard for those who don't put in effort. He does talk a lot, but he is passionate about his job, & I like that. Don't take a college class if you aren't ready for college-level work.
he only lectures. no phones or laptops allowed in class. we only take 3 tests including the final, so very test heavy. his class is interesting but notes are hard to take as its hard to get straight definitions, addittionally, he does socratic method teaching so majority of your grade is participation in class. gives attendance bonus(10pts to final
Very lecture heavy class but it is relatively interesting he was pretty cool most of the time but the test were very difficult but he does give big curvesand are very short luckily he gives you 10 points added to your final grade if you only miss 1 class and also has a participation grade so make sure he knows your paying attention and try to talk
I absolutely loved this class. It was such a breath of fresh air compared to all my other classes. We were able to have open and interesting conversations. Some of the things that were talked about were confusing but as long as you continue to participate and actually listen to what is being said you will pass with flying colors. Highly recommend.
he uses his opinions majorly to teach class. i wish that there was more definitions worked into his pp or a study guide because i feel like he would be a great teacher if he added more facts or information to back up his lectures. he does give major curves which is nice with having no study guide and gives 10% to grade if you only miss 1 class
Worst class I've experienced at Tri-County. The whole class basically thought of this class as a joke, because it felt like one.Nothing was graded on time,no assignments just 3 exams and a participation grade. He'll dock your participation grade for anything. The test questions didn't match up with what he teached.Wish I would have dropped the class.
Worst professor I have ever encountered at tri-county, I had to miss class due to surgery and he was not willing to help me in any way for it. He wouldn't even excuse me for it saying it didn't matter the reason. He went on random conversations all of class and we never actually learned the material he graded us on.drop this class if you get him.
Aristide is a very interesting man, he acts in ways I've never seen. He is very good at conversation and is a good man but he should be a not teacher and should be a researcher instead. He is very close-minded with students and his grading policy is out of the world confusing. He made the easiest class the hardest.
Mr. Sechandice is a smart man but he is an AWFUL instructor. Extremely rude and prideful, says he believes in diversity of opinion but discourages ideas that he does not agree with. No homework only 3 exams worth 30% and 10% for participation. His exams are a joke and impossible to study for. He will grade you based on his opinion of you!
This professor blatantly grades based on his opinion of the students. He says that all opinions are valid but says you are wrong if you disagree with him. He is so confusing about what is going to be on the tests and absolutely impossible to study for. I do not understand how he is still able to teach. DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS!!!
Ive had many bad professors in my life. However i would choose those professsors over and over again before i even thought about choosing this guy. Please. RUN. do not take this class if you want any justice to your gpa. drop the class as soon as possible. this class will get you nowhere and harm your academic education.
you CAN do this class but it wont be easy. His classes are fun if you listen and talk, participate. Tests are 10 question on a whole unit, be prepared to study A LOT. He is easy to make an appt for and talk to, always willing to help if need be, you just have to ask. He is not as bad as people make it seem, VERY hard class but you can do it.
He regularly says untrue things about people just to get his point across. The last class we had with him was him ranting about how every year students failed his class and how were all lazy and just wanna get by. I'm genuinely shocked that this teacher doesn't have the brain capacity to realize he's the issue. Also tests are impossible to study 4
I took this class, looking forward to it, but he ruined the whole semester. He made class miserable, degraded me, and just made me feel worthless. I highly recommend not taking this class. i have left in tears from this class almost every class day.
Took him for social issues in sport. PowerPoints are extremely vague and expects you to memorize pages and pages of reading for the tests, which he does little to prepare you for. Goes off on tangents for most of the class and only really converses with his favorites. Extremely sarcastic if he doesn't like you. Do not recommend.
You DEFINITELY have to be an auditory learner to take this class! His lectures are honestly just a google slides with 1 term each and him going on a rant about it, makes it harder to prepare for exams and your never really sure what to write down as notes…
While he is clearly a very well educated man and I did enjoy his Social Issues in Sport class, he is probably not someone that I would want to have as an instructor again. Very small number of assignments, no true metrics for grading, and his exams are extremely hard to study for. Lots of long articles to read.
Aristide was a pretty solid professor. His exams are curved, but they are relatively short (6-10 questions). As long as you don't skip class, complete the readings, and actually soak in the material, you will do just fine.
Grades answers based off what he would answer. Grades everything as failing then changes it at the end to keep you anxious. Reuses content and doesn't adjust or fix anything at all and just justifies it. Do not take if you are open minded or want something not outrageously nerve wracking the whole semester.
Professor Sechandice never really talked about class material in class. Study was absolutely more important even though attendance is mandatory.
Extremely intelligent and talks about a lot of fun things. Unless you engage in the conversation you will hate this class. He likes to give you a lot of chances and is very well read and changes the way I think to be more open minded. Only complaint is he makes u study with a partner which I couldn't do due to a 35 hr work week. Brutally hit me
He spent a whole class period showing v
I enjoyed the class and the material was interesting, but he seems to grade based on personal opinion. He says all views are valid yet dismisses yours if you differ. His exam expectations are confusing and hard to study for. You can pass, but it's much harder than it should be.
This class was hard, and the grading policy/studying for tests doesn't make sense. But I loved this class and I learned a lot of info about being a better student. I struggled personally through my semester, but I felt like Mr. Sechandice really inspired me to continue with my studies without me even speaking to him much. Highly recommend
Sechandice is very knowledgeable and makes class interesting and engaging. Participation is graded!! Lots of readings that are important for understanding the course, small number of assignments, long lectures, study teams were a pain at times, and studying for his exams was hard. Taking notes was key for me. Overall, I would take this class again!
