very clear with material.. very good teacher
very very good teacher, one of the best teachers i ever had. can make even ancient christian text very interesting, makes class fun, very nice man
He knows what he's talking about. Makes theology interesting. He's intense (because he's so smart) but don't let that intimidate you. I learned a lot in his classes. He's a cool cat.
he's so sexy when he is teaching. I can't stand it. It makes me want to do well in his class.
Dr. Telly is an intensely smart man, that always brings wit and charm to his classes. He didn't drill us with Christian views, but instead explored many insights to religion in itself. And for the icing on the cake...he's incredibly good looking.
Does a very good job of tracing reason and faith through Western thought. Provides a complex context and is very knowledgable, interesting, witty, and fun. His is one of the classes that I did not stare at my watch (even though it was three hours long)
He is one of the few teachers that made a lasting impression on me at Fordham. He is smart and well- spoken, and is willing to explore all angles of any given concept. Plus he's super sexy.
Dr. Telly has a great knowledge and passion for what he teaches. His class is somewhat difficult, but very interesting and he's good at clarifying information. I found him to be a fair grader as well. Plus it doesn't hurt to have a professor who's hot.

HE'S AN AMAZING PROFESSOR, He's very passionate about the subject matter and absorbs you into his lectures no matter how boring the topic is.I really recomend him if you dont mind working a little more than usual but on the plus side he's good looking

I don't know why everyone is raving about Prof. Telly's hotness. He is a very nice, sweet man who is very helpful and engaging. And yes, he is very passionate. But I must say that some people take the degree of sexiness a bit too far.
super smart, super sexy...i havent missed a class yet..and my attendence leaves a lot to be desired in most classes. He is a great professor..and very passionate about his class. He will work with you to get you to do well..which may include office visits
Dr. Telly is the man, he is so helpful. I had a project for another class and he was more than willing to help me out.I recommend to anyone who needs the faith and critical reasoning class for core to take it with him, this class is far from boring!

He is by far the most inspiring professpr at Fordham.Having him for Faith made me want to be a THEOLOGY MAJOR!!!He is amazing, charming and the best all around. not to mention he is exceptionally sexy. Take his class. You won't regret it, even the guys.
best professor i have had at fordham, no contest. his lectures are riveting and somehow seem applicable to every day life -- even for the irreligious.
Telly is the man. Can't add much more to what has already been written.
Dr. Telly is the BEST teacher at Fordham, hands-down. So glad I took his class! He's so passionate about what he teaches-lectures r awe-inspiring. The man is beyond brilliant & his love of knowledge will rub off on u. He gives an appropriate amount of work & is ALWAYS willing to help his students
This is one of the best professors at Fordham. If you don't take him, you don't know what you are missing. Makes theology so interesting.

quite possibly the best prof i will ever have... telly is the best
He is the most awesome professor of theology in Fordham. Always helpful and ready for a chat. Not to mention quite handsome. Sadly, he's a married man. :( still a great professor though. u should take him if you get the chance.
I cannot stress this enough... take Telly. Easily the best teacher I've ever had. There was one class I wanted to stand and applaud him. Makes himself very available to help with class or just to chat. You will never find a better professor!
He's married...damn
a fair professor, very helpful..
This man needs to be my husband.
most likely the best teacher at Fordham. Ridiculously intelligent, went to MIT. easy going and more than willing to help. i'm not a fan of theology but i loved his class. Sometimes a bit boring but what could he do – religion isn’t exactly a bundle of laughs. he also has the sweetest name... I LOVE HIM!
hes just sooo hot. it really does suck that he's married, but oh well. lucky woman
I know everyone loves him but I found him to be an extremely arbitrary grader and overly strict on attendance and really demanding as far as participation and office hours goes. Not the worst teacher at fordham but far from the best.
Awesome teacher. Use his office hours because when he says they are open to you as a student it is really true. He will clarify ANYTHING.
dr. telly is living a lie
i love this man. take him great class!!! just take notes and do the readings and easy A
cool guy, although he does come off as really intense...not a bad course, actually quite interesting and thought provoking
Interesting teacher overall. Tests were difficult, but very do-able if you kept up with your readings and reviewed.
Great professor- friendly, intelligent, very helpful. Make sure you keep up with the readings and review them for the exams.
I had absolutly no interest in this class before I took it, but left with the idea to minor in theology. Very nice man, very easy class if you do the readings and study for the tests. (He tells you exactly what is on them.)
He really ignites an inerest in the subject where there was none before. Perhaps not for everyone, but even if you don't begin to like the subject, you'll at least like the class. A lot of e-res reading (which does appear on tests), but he doesn't teach directly from a text book.
He is an amazing professor. I would like to live inside his brain. The fact that he is brooding and sexy does help. I didn't miss a single class...how could I, when I knew I would have two hours with a gorgeous genius.
Whenever we made eye contact in class, I thought I would faint, and probably would have I hadn't been sitting down. I hope he didn't notice that whenever I was called on, it would take a minute or so to "wake up" from my daydreams. Nonetheless, it was a great class. I still learned TONS!
Brilliant and HOT!
i adore telly. Hes engaging, brilliant and an amazing professor overall. If your not willing to work hard don't take the class. Work load is a bit heavy but all worth it. You will learn alot. And not sound like everyone else but yes he's HOT!
I came from a Catholic high school and hated the idea of taking theology again, but Papanik made it so enjoyable. He makes it so interesting - I walked away from the class genuinely wanting to know more about the subject. Tests are fair - he tells you what to study. Do the reading and you'll love him.
Hott. Oh he's a really good professor too
INCREDIBLE. So much love for this man. I'm not religious at all, but I learned so much and he gave me so much insight into this subject that I really found fascinating because of him.
Professor Papanikolaou is definitively one of the greatest professors of my lifetime and I shall never forget the valuable things I learned in his class. I was dreading taking theology but he makes you really think about things you probably haven't thought about before. He is a genius in his field and is genuinely passionate about his students.
Dr. Telly is incredibly brilliant without being pretentious. He welcomes any question, and is available for extra help all the time. He makes his expectations clear. I hate theology but really liked his class because it was so thought provoking and understandable. Definitely take him if possible.
Outstanding professor. I had no interest in religion at all and his class was so engaging. I learned a lot, and am so happy I took this class. Do the readings and review the notes and you'll get an A. He is always around for extra help and appreciates students who seek it. He is brilliant, definitely take him!
Bottom line: he is amazing. He approached so many difficult and sensitive topics with grace and clarity. I once hated religious studies but his class made me think in completely new ways, without him ever shoving ideas down our throats. Do the readings, he tests them. Exams are fair but you'll need to study.
Such a great class. Dr. P is warm, passionate, clear, and a deep thinker. It's clear that he's spent many many hours considering God and life. I not only learned a ton about religion, but a ton about myself and how I think. Do the readings, follow instructions and you can't go wrong.
Prof. P is wise, thoughtful and engaging. He has deep knowledge of the Orthodox tradition, and his presence is highly valued at Fordham. Take him if you can!
Very Good, explained with relative clarity. Helpful enough even though I was not so interested in the class.
Was literally dreading the theology requirement and now theo is my second major. Dr Telli is brilliant, insightful, and engaging. He seems intimidating but is quite approachable. He is the absolute best of Fordham. YOU MUST TAKE HIM. I would take his class again if I could, it literally changed my life.
Took faith and critical reason with him. Don't worry slackers, it's okay to take him as long as you're a good bull$h!tter. I didn't do the readings but I skimmed them before the tests and I did pretty good in the course. Plus he's reaaaally nice to look at. He cares about his students. You have to go to class
One of the best teachers I've ever had. The tests are easy if you take notes and study them. At least skim the readings, though some of them are worth reading through. Dr. Telly is incredibly intelligent and insightful and will make you look at theology in a new way.
He has the biggest ego in the world. I can not handle it. Incredibly biased yet tries to pretend everything he says is completely analytical. Random references to pop culture that no one understands. I took him because of his great ratings, he is currently my least favorite professor ever. If you love to memorize names and fall asleep go ahead.
Show up. Read the materials before the test. Do the journals. Do the extra credit. Say something in class about the novels. He goes over the last part of class at the beginning of the next one. For tests, he tells you what to study and if you talk to him in Office Hours, you know what points to write. Can be unclear but he will clarify for you
He is such an amazing professor. He legit gives you everything you need to know, you just have to listen, participation is a biggie, office hours you must go, and study study. Read a lot but its not that boring. He is a big help tho.
Professor Telly actually cares about what he's teaching and knows what he is talking about. His lectures are well prepared and tie in well with the text. The class is reading heavy but are definitely interesting if you like Theology. The first half of course is more history heavy and very enjoyable. Would take again! Recommended for Theo 1000.
Dr. Telly has been one of the best professors I have ever had. He really loves what he is teaching and really engages his class. He does assign a good amount of reading but it all really gets you to think. He is funny, kind, he cares about his students, he likes to tell jokes but he also really pushes his students and makes you think.
I was really dreading theo 1000 because I've had bad experiences with all my other core classes thus far, but Professor Telly made me seriously love this class. His lectures are so interesting and engaging, you can't help but learn when you listen to him. He's also extremely fair on exams, no curveballs. He's funny and I really recommend taking him
Though Telly is a very good professor, I found him to be somewhat condescending. I think he genuinely cares about his students and wants them to do well, but he comes off a bit arrogant. He also interrupts students an unacceptable amount of times.
I had a great time in this class! Dr. Telly was very specific about what he wanted for the Freud paper, and as long as you knew the readings the exams were manageable. I thought that the class itself was really interesting, and Telly seems interested in student feedback in discussions, although he occasionally is so interested that he interrupts.
An incredible theologian, better human being, and great lecturer. I had no interest in theology before--now I'm think about a second major. Class was discussion based, he'll listen to what you have to say, but you've gotta be assertive (he's got a unfortunate habit of interrupting, but he'll catch himself). Great class, take if you can.
An incredible theologian, better human being, and great lecturer. I had no interest in theology before--now I'm think about a second major. Class was discussion based, he'll listen to what you have to say, but you've gotta be assertive. Great class, take for the core if you can.
Dr. Telly is the reason I decided to double major in theology. He is such a fantastic lecturer, and he genuinely wants us to contribute to discussions so he can hear what we have to say. Readings were very interesting and thought provoking, and his supplementing lectures were amazing. I can't say enough good things about him. Amazing professor!!
Dr. Telly is one of the best professors I've had at Fordham. I took his class as a core requirement but ended up really enjoying it! While the workload can be heavy, he takes time to make sure all students can visit him in office hours and helps them through the work. Can seem intimidating because he's very knowledgeable, but very kind.
Great professor! Very knowledgeable and an engaging lecturer. Quite a few readings but you can get away with not doing most of them. Is very clear about what will be on the midterm and final. Midterm and final are multiple choice, short answer, and essay but you know exactly what to expect. Will definitely take him again soon!
exams were extremely long and stressful. he would email the prompt at 8am and expect it to be handed in the next day at 8am. our final had three short answers and five essays. if youre looking for an easy A do not take his class. dont know how he has a 4.5/5.0 rating.
To get an A, you need at least a 97 or higher for this specific class. You will have to read a book most of each week and write a reflection. You are lucky if you are reading only a except of a passage, which happens sometimes. Around 3000 word for the midterm and final. If you want A, you will have to put in some serious work and grind.
These past reviews made it seem like Jesus Christ himself was teaching this course but my god that was not the case. TONS of readings. 8 journals/reflections + 2 midterms + final. His lectures were good but hard to stay focused. Also, his grading scale is disgusting and evil. 97+ is an A, 92-96 is A-, 91-88 is B+ etc. You have to work HARD
Professor Telly is one of my favorite professors! His assignments made me think about the world differently and I learned a ton from his class.
Professor Papanikolaou can come off intimidating however, he really isn't. He wants you to do well in his class and he makes it clear what needs to be done to achieve the grade you want. You need to do the readings he provides, will go over some in class, and highlight the important ones that you NEED to KNOW. Exams are based on YOUR NOTES!
If you're not in class to takes notes on the lecture, you'll miss a lot. Most of the exams are based on his own notes rather than the reading.
Intimidating at first but, is one of the best professors I've had thus far. He is helpful and understand with extensions and has clear standards set for grades. He gives good feedback and study guides for exams. Always helpful in office hours. Just pay attention in class and communicate with him and you'll be fine.
Probably one of my favorite classes at Fordham. The content was enjoyable and lectures were engaging and revolved around student interest. Tests were fair, and readings didn't feel like busywork. The teacher was available outside the classroom and showed genuine interest in individual students. Content was applicable to everyday life.
Great teacher. He's very smart and very caring, but there is a lot of reading involved in the class.
Dr Telly is a great professor and wants you to do well. There is a lot of reading and homework but his lectures were often interesting. He balances your grade out well with homework and extra credit and exams. I would definitely recommend him if you are not interested in theology, he makes the class fun to learn.
I don't understand why his ratings are so high, worst class and worst teacher I've had. Everything is vague, grading scale is horrendous, unhelpful with questions. You can tell he has a big ego and just likes to hear himself talk. Assigns a ton of books to read but doesn't go over them in depth. Confusing even if you try your best and do the work.
Great professor. Lots of reading, but if you do the work you'll be in good shape. GO TO HIS OFFICE HOURS because then he will really like you. Super nice despite seeming intimidating at first, he's a pretty funny guy sometimes and will make really random or niche references that makes the class laugh.
This man is pretentious (but ultimately good natured) and the midterms and final are pretty hard. However, when push come to shove, he's going to come in clutch a lot more than your average professor. Also, if you have a chronic illness, he'll be accommodating.
Dr. Telly is a really caring person and genuinely wants you to do well. He is super knowledgeable about the material and is an extremely respected professor. Makes classes interesting for people with no prior knowledge. Take his theology class if you have to fulfill the requirement.
Where do I start... Narcissist for sure. Has no empathy for students. Ego in the skies. 7+ readings plus 500 words a week. VERY CHALLENGING. he takes his job VERY seriously. it's too much information to actually learn. I cried a lot. just take another professor.
I struggled heavily throughout the semester, failing my midterm and I was on track to fail. However, if you have the drive to make an academic comeback its possible with this class. You have to show that you care about this class so do office hours. participate and EC. After class ask him questions and make genuine convo with him. Went from D to B+
weekly prompts 500 words and stuff during the lectures didn't align very often. Also, he'd present a question at the beginning of class, frame it as incredibly important for the exam, then not give a clear answer? There were some concepts that I enjoyed and I couldn't grasp onto why he was so incompetent at teaching them. Wouldn't recommend 3/10
He is so so sweet and caring. He comes off as very intimidating at first and I thought I would not like his class but omg I loved it. I never went to his office hours and I didn't do all of the readings but I did study my *ss off for the midterm and final but honestly pretty easy material. Very understanding and appreciates any effort
The tests were mainly memorization. The lectures were good as they built on each other and covered the same material repeatedly. Is good with office hours and genuinely tries to help. Gives many good extra credit opportunities. The journal entries and reflections were a bit annoying. Grades average. Class is interesting, nice guy. Lots of reading.
Dr. Telly's teaching style is really refreshing to see. He's a very engaging speaker and cares strongly about the topics he teaches (which is evident when he lectures). Participation is part of the grade, but it's really easy to get those points in. The course involves a lot of readings, but he reviews them during class. I recommend this class!
Awesome, funny guy who clearly loves theology and wants his students to succeed. He does not use Blackboard and relies heavily on lectures and readings, so go to class. He typically emphasizes which readings are important for exams, so you don't necessarily have to read them all. Lecture style is a bit confusing until you understand his style.
Favorite core requirement I've taken. Dr Telly is a great professor and cares about his students learning. He lists what will be on the exams during lectures. Gives study guides. Dont miss class, participate and maybe go to office hours once. Try to do most of the readings or at least look up summaries and you will be good and learn a lot!
Very intelligent professor. Course focuses on religious theory and philosophy rather than world religions. Phones and computers are not allowed. Lectures vary in engagement. Heavy reading load. Exams cover large units from books and readings, with limited guidance and no online notes.
