She really knows her stuff and is always willing to help.
She's a great teacher. Extremely bright, but she can still light the fire to learn. I would recommend her very highly. You get what you put into this class.
Good teacher! Easy A! Didn't get the book and didn't need the book. Her powerpoint notes are on blackboard for you. She has a review the day before the test; VERY HELPFUL!! She pretty much goes down the test telling you every single thing you need to know. Just write down everything that she goes over on the review, study that and you'll get and A
What a GREAT teacher!! If you do what is asked of you and be responsible you will get a A. She is more than fair. Any questions outside of class are readily answered by email. I wish she taught Micro!!
I really enjoy taking Dr. Hile class. She really knows her stuff and she wants you to get it too. She likes to test on models but as long as you study what she tells you to you will have little or no trouble with her tests!
Extremely funny teacher! Difficult subject matter is made interesting my her sense of humor and wit. This course requires a lot of studying, but if you do the work you can get the grade.
This class was one of the most difficult i have taken. She is a great professor and without her help I would not have gotten a B :)
Dr. Hile is an excellent teachers. She is organized, helpful, grades assignments quickly, and cares about her students. I would take a class from her again!
Dr Hile is a very nice woman. She is not the best teacher though! She gives you all of her power points - have fun printing out all 800 pages of them. WAY TOO MUCH INFORMATION!!! My problem with her is that she acts as if you should remember the things she lectured about when she covers TOO MUCH info! With that said, I have an A in her class.
I was extremely disappointed with a B, I thought I deserved an A, but I should've studied harder. She covers a lot and some questions in the lab portion I could've find in the book. I had to study a lot for the class. However, she is definitely one of my favorite teachers at W/I. I love her! She's funny and I think she's always interesting.
I laughed when I saw the lady say she "deserved" an A. The class was full of those people. Fact is, if you did the take home tests and actually studied, you would have got an A. You EARN your grade in her class. You dont deserve anything other than what you worked for. She was really fair and a nice instructor. Would recommend to anyone.
Doctor Hile is easy for classes like bio 5 and 20, but for 11b shes insane! She was learning when we were learning which made it difficult, 2 tests were 9 chps with 8 labs (difficult) and the final was 200 quest 31chp 17 labs. she talks down to you and makes things harder then what it is. NOT RECOMMENDED. i loved bio now i hate it :(
I wish more professors had her enthusiasm! She gives you all the tools necessary to earn an A, you just have to put in the study time. Too bad she only teaches 20, would love to take 22 from her. I highly recommend Dr. Hile!
She's a very passionate teacher while still being really down to earth. She expects a lot from her students and her tests are pretty hard, but don't let that get you down! There's a ton of information to take in, but study study study and you'll come out with the grade you deserve.
I was excited to have an interesting Biology teacher who was good at teaching. Things seemed perfect until I received the first test. She goes through much of the information on the test the class before the test but the tests are tricky. You can know your information forwards and backwards and still struggle to stay afloat in her class.
Enthusiastic and great professor! Lots of info to absorb. Three lect/ lab exams. Tells you what will be on exams - write it down and KNOW IT. Gives 5 random pop quizzes. Gives you a packet of questions to do, 20% of those will be on exam. Gives extra credit essay exam at end of semester. Overall, easiest Anatomy class.
Dr. Hile is really fun, helpful and very nice. It's obvious she loves biology when she lectures and is especially helpful in lab. Her study guide for lecture tests is straight forward but the lab test require knowing ALL the material previously covered.
Very smart woman. Provides detailed study guides. DO the study guides and you will do very well on exams. Labs are easy points. Treats students with respect. Bio11b is tedious and takes hours of study, but Hile makes it doable.
Great class. Show up on time because pop quizzes are frequent. Do the study guides, and you'll be totally prepared for the tests.
Took anatomy with Hile. Great instructor. Very helpful. She tried to make the difficult material easy to understand. Would recommend. She made me enjoy Anatomy a lot! Lecture exams are based off her study guides. You need to study if you want an A.
Dr, Arla Hile is by far one of the best teachers i have ever had bar none. A lot of students left lab 10 min into class and wondered why they were failing if you stay the entire time she will give you imperative info for examinations. recommended!!!!
Great instructor! Takes time to answer any questions, explains material well. Has a lot of knowledge, very helpful and professional.
What a great professor! If you can get in her class do it! Her energy and excitement about the subject matter is awesome and easily keeps you focused. You can't just skate on by through this class though she is tough especially in Biol11B but greatest classes I've taken at Willow
She is by far, one of the best professors I've had at Willow. She is very helpful and is open to any extra time for questions. She clearly loves what she does and it shows.
Difficult teacher; missing almost any quiz/homework hurts your grade a lot. A ton of tedious busywork that she grades mercilessly. She's a good instructor and knows her stuff, but be ready to work really, really hard to get the grade you want.
I like Mrs.Hile she is very easy to understand and she is a good teacher.
It's funny how some of these reviews seem to attack previous reviewers. Also the 5 star reviews posted are very short and not specific while the more critical ones are.
Arla Hile is one of the best teacher ever she make her quizzes from her lecture notes and it is very easy her class I recommend that other students take her she tells you what is on the test.
Dr. Hile is an outstanding teacher! Her class may be difficult, but she provides good notes and she tells you what is exactly on her tests! The class itself is interesting because she spends time explaining the material pretty well! Study hard so that you can earn the grade you deserve!!!!
Mrs. Hile is an awesome professor. Her class is not an easy class on where you can just cruise by. You actually have to study and study in order to get the grade you want. She has a lot of PowerPoint lectures but her test are mostly on the PowerPoints and she goes over what you need to study and know for the exams. She is also nice and helpful.
Dr. Hile made this class harder than it had to be she is a great professor on a personal level but compared to other 11b classes this was harder midterms are fair but the research project should have been group work since collaboration is an important skill and would have gained more from it.
Dr. Hile is a great professor and knows her stuff. The class is fairly difficult (the quizzes can be challenging) but the midterms are pretty fair. pro tip: Study the powerpoint slides more than the book and you will be fine. Do the study guide for the exams and you will get an A. You will get a hang of this class.
Great teacher. Makes lectures interesting. good sense of humor. always available. very approachable. doesn't make you feel stupid when you ask her questions (like some other professors). Quizzes every week actually prepare you for the exam. loved her and would recommend her (It's very hard to find good teachers).
Horrible teacher. Goes over the lectures so fast. Says the pop quiz is from the previous two sessions, but that is not always the case. Needs to slow down on the materials. Not supposed to be a hard class. The lab homework was useless and time consuming. Poor teaching methods.
Dr. Hile really is an amazing professor! Her knowledge and enthusiasm about the topic made it interesting and fun! This class was quite difficult and basically has to be a priority in order to be successful. Her tests are challenging and cover a ton of material, but she is extremely helpful! Put in the time and it's a great class.
Hard class fun teacher if you like very excited and eager teachers
This was a very difficult course & very few students received an A. The tests require a lot of reading & studying in order to get a good grade. If you apply yourself you will be alright, but in order to get an A you need to go over and beyond. Hile is always there is you have questions or need more explanation. It is a very fast paced class.
Good professor. Hard class but able to pass.
Dr. Hile is quirky and funny, which makes her lectures more engaging. They go a little fast, but that's just because there's a lot of material to go over in anatomy. Try to stay in lab the whole time because the models are crucial for passing her lab exams. She is always open to questions, so ask her questions when you need to, especially in lab.
Incredibly passionate about the subject. She will help you if you aren't getting it. She has a sense of humor but is down to business when necessary. Just put in the work and take advantage of extra credit opportunities and you'll get a B or an A easily. The lectures are incredibly thorough so the need of the book depends on personal necessity.
Good bio prof! Most of the time warns about upcoming pop quizzes. There for you, just ask! Eccentrically hilarious. Meticulously grades labs, not bad, just pay attention to detail in coloring book. Gives lecture review question packets for homework, they help with the tests. Show up to lab, go even on days that aren't yours. Didn't use textbook.
Funny but serious when she needs to be. Lecture was always interesting. She definitely showed her passion for Biology. Tough grader when it came to labs. Usually announced when there was an upcoming pop quiz. Study her study guides and do the wiley extra credit!
WORST CLASS!!! Depends on her TA to grade all her work! Studied 2 weeks before the test and still did not do good on the exams. Be prepared to study and have no life.
Dr. Hile is the most understanding and helpful professor I've had in a while. She goes over the actual test as a review a couple days before your test for lecture and explains to you what models are going to be covered on the lecture exam. The only reason you wouldn't pass is if you didn't show up to class.
Make sure you do the extra credit, it's enough to change your grade, and pay attention to all the lab homework and the take home practice exams. The lecture exams have a lot of the take home exam questions. The lab exams are tough, make sure you use your lab time to study the models! If you put in your time (lots of time!) you can get a good grade!
Arla Hile is by far the worst instructor I have had to date!! She is disorganized and I feel she doesn't know the subject matter... I strongly do not recommend her!!!!!!!!!
I have read the previous reviews that were given to Dr. Hile. I wish the reviews that had said bad things about her would be taken down. Dr. Hile is the greatest, most inspirational and hilarious professor I have ever had and will probably ever have. To this day I tell her that I wish she taught all my classes. Work hard and take her class.
Dr. Hile is such an amazing professor. She gives tons of extra credit. 10 points for every lab test, and wiley plus which is extra 25 points. EXAMS are fair, Anatomy itself is a hard subject, so expect to study a lot. Dr. Hile does her job with stressing the material to you, she is extremely helpful!!! And i cannot stress that enough.
Terrible teacher... disappointed in her class and knowledge. The professor I wanted was not teaching this class, but I wish I would have waited. I learned NOTHING! And the coloring book!?? Really??!! Are we in kindergarten or college?
Anatomy is not an easy subject but Dr. Hile does a great job of teaching it. Make sure to use the lab time to study the models, take advantage of WileyPlus (EXTRA CREDIT!), study the exam reviews (a good amount will be on the lecture exam), and ask questions if you don't understand something! Dr. Hile will always help you and make sure you get it.
Amazing teacher, always keeps lecture very interesting and funny! Really cares about her students and takes time to further explain things even if one person doesn't get it. Highly recommend her!
Dr. Hile is an amazing professor. I felt so lucky to be in her class. She made difficult concepts easy and fun to understand. I struggled English language and biology classes. Now I felt in love with it. She is so patient and care to her students. So many thanks to her!
Hile's lectures are all over the place. Very hard to keep up with, lots of study time. STUDY THE LAB MODELS IN CLASS, WORK ON THE LAB REPORT AT HOME. Highly recommend getting a different teacher for lab, they grade much easier on the coloring. Hile is a nice lady overall, but my experience was a solid 6/10. Good luck!
Hile was super helpful and passionate about what she teaches, Would take her again for sure!
After taking Dr. Hile's class, I feel prepared to tackle physiology next semester. Her lectures are very clear, and her lectures slides are concise yet informative. Lectures were always engaging and dynamic. To do well, attend open lab to study the models and ask questions. Dr. Hile cares about the learning and progress of her students.
Worst teacher I have ever had. Bad attitude toward students, terrible personality, mean spirited. DO NOT recommend her under any circumstances... Thinks she is an authority in the subject, but it is clear to even myself that she is NOT!
YIKES!!! NOT RECOMMENDED UNDER ANY CIRCUMSTANCE! I DROPPED THIS CLASS & will take it at FRESNO CITY COLLEGE.
Disappointed in this class and the teacher sorry to say she's not what I expected from some of the evaluations that had been posted in the past
not impressed & was hoping for a better understanding of the subject felt like Hile was not helpful or caring would not recommend
Very poor instructor. Disorganized. Doesn't know subject. Avoid.
Not sure what people are talking about , but here's what I liked: I knew what was expected, lecture notes and study guides online, practice exam (wrth points!), always helpful in lab, extra credit available, no surprises on tests. What I didn't like: lots of tedious memorizing (that's just anatomy, I guess), and a few of the pop quizzes were tough.
LAB MODELS for LAB TESTS; LECTURE NOTES, TAKE HOME EXAMS for LECTURE TESTS. I cannot stress the importance of studying these three things because they are about 85% of the tests. Do the extra credit because it'll help you study. This class is all memorization so don't expect to pass if you study last minute (unless you have amazing memory).
Dr. Hile is one of my favorite professors! She really was there to help the students. Going to the open lab as well as staying the entire lab time really lets you have some one on one time with her to discuss upcoming test material. I suggest taking her 100%! It's a lot of material so expect to put in some work! She's a great resource!
First off I would just like to say that anatomy is a very difficult subject to begin with, but Hile does a great job trying to get her students to understand the material. She is willing to help out outside of class, and loves when you ask her to explain something you don't understand. She takes her job seriously and is very enthusiastic.
Hile was definitely strict and grades hard without any curve. She does offer extra credit and offers open labs. She's eager to help if you ask for it. The exams are a little all over the place so you do have to really study everything. I studied a few days before exams like all my other classes and Aced it but you really have to want it.
It's been 23 years since I've taken a college course. I worked full-time and took this class at night. Dr. Hile was definitely an inspiration for me: passionate about her subject and caring towards her students' goals. Prepare to work hard. DO ALL EXTRA CREDIT. STUDY THE TAKE HOME EXAM. MEMORIZE ALL THE MODELS IN LAB. ASK QUESTIONS.
Great teacher! Go to as many open labs as possible, study the models, ask questions, STUDY TAKE HOME TESTS! You get out as much as YOU put in. Hile makes this class fun and is there for whatever questions you have, she only wants to help you!
Human Anatomy requires a lot of studying and memorizing from the student. Dr. Hile is awesome! Gives quizzes after every chapter but hints during lecture what she will quiz on so make a note of it and study. She gives beneficial take home practice tests and uses a lot of those question on the actual tests.
Good instructor. Lectures are interesting. Labs are easy. Miss a class and your bound to miss a pop quiz. Provides study guide for each big test. Only thing that I hated was the coloring book!! The coloring book is what brought down My lab grade. Other than that she is fair and thorough!
I liked her, she was very nice and caring and very smart. It's fairly easy to pass this class with an A or B only if you truly dedicate your time to learning the topics. Listen to her carefully and take notes on a laptop because she talks fast. She's also very understanding to your situations.
First off I'd like to say Dr. Arla Hile is an extremely amazing professor. By far my favorite teacher to date. She pushed me to limits I didn't believe I knew I could achieve. She is very smart and thorough. Don't be afraid to ask questions, even if its the same one 100 times. Study the models, go to extra labs, visit her during office hours.
A lot of stuff to cover in this class so be prepared to study! I definitely did not study as much as I could and got some low test scores and still ended up with a B, which my friends who worked harder than myself still got as well. Dr. Hile knows her stuff and will explain stuff pretty thoroughly. Grades very toughly on labs. I only got one 15/15.
There are pop quizzes, so stay up on studying. Study the tame home test, a lot of it is on your test, the rest is from lecture notes! Labs, study the models. Spend extra time in lab learning the models. Coloring is super tedious, get it checked off with her to ensure a good grade. SHE IS THE BEST AND MOST INSPIRATIONAL TEACHER! Work hard, worth it!
Hard grader on the labs and test are pretty hard, but nice teacher. didn't round up my grade that needed .3% to round up
Anatomy is going to be hard, and it is honestly the hardest class I have taken thus far. She was able to make it easier to learn, if you need clarification she is very proficient at explaining concepts/definitions in different ways. She is really understanding if something were to happen in your life and is flexible. She is also pretty funny!
Hile is by far one of the greatest professors I have ever had. She is beyond passionate about what she teaches and cares thoroughly about the well being of her students. STUDY, it's anatomy, there is no easy way out. Keep up with what she asks from you and you will do fine. Start memorizing the muscles & bones before her class! Take home exams too!
Legend for Anatomy!
Good teacher, very nice and approachable. Only 3 Leture test and 3 Lecture exams all semester with 10 pop quizzes. Not much extra credit available. So study because there are only a little over a 1,000 point available in the class. Lecture test were harder than the Lab exams. She has open labs every Friday so attend if you can.
LOVE Dr. Hile! Yes, anatomy is a hard subject, but she does everything she can to help you learn. Go to open lab every week- it will help tremendously and you will ace the lab exams! Be warned- she grades extremely tough on the coloring and the lecture tests are pretty hard, but if you study you will be fine.
Very disappointed in Hiles teaching abilities and her class in general. Heard she wasn't great, but no one else was teaching it.
Lecture exam and lab exam in the same night, test content should be broken down into 3 tests. Like most teachers, does not consider that students have other classes, work and other obligations. Exam questions not clear or written to confuse. 6 weeks before first exam.
Dr. Hile is one of the most understanding professors I have had the pleasure of learning from. She technically does not assign any homework because she allows you to work on the lab assignments that are due during lab. Exams are also pretty straight forward and if you study (she tells you what to study!) you should have no trouble passing!
Dr. Hile is a total legend. Don't believe any negative posts. She gives you many chances for extra credit, happily answers any & all questions, & is super approachable. Ask a ton of questions & have her check through your labs before you turn them in. Yes, it's demanding, but anatomy is not easy in general. Dr. Hile makes it simple & enjoyable.
Proff Hile is a nice person. The issue with her teaching is she will whisper important thing like what will be on the test, and you have to ask lots of question to help narrow down things that'll be on the test. She had another prof in lab with her, but sometime he'd give us wrong answer it throws people off. Not my cup of tea.
If you skip this class you will not pass. The lecture exam are hard and sometimes I am not sure from where she is basing the questions from. Beware the pop quizzes though and study ahead, TWO HOURS atleast every other day to stay on track. Good luck.
Dr. Hile is an amazing teacher. She is there to help her students when needed. Open labs are available for extra practice which helps a lot. She offers extra credit. This class is based on memorization. The lecture tests are somewhat harder than the labs but some questions from the lecture come from the take-home test. Easy if you put in the work
Dr. Hile is the best professor to take anatomy with. This class is not easy and you have to put in the time and effort, but Dr. Hile makes this class fun and entertaining. She is funny and really nice. There are ten pop quizzes throughout the semester but most of them she told us about beforehand and she gives a ton of extra credit.
Awesome teacher!! She loves science and is SO SO clear on what she expects from her class which is a great combo for this class. She is super fair and gives plenty of extra credit. The material is heavy, put the time in to learn in! Her powerpoints and lectures prepare you for the lecture exams. Lab exams - she tells you what you're tested on.
Dr. Hile was the best professor I have ever had! She truly loves her job and wants you to not only pass, but to pass with an A. You have to put in the work, but she is always there to help you when you need it. I have always struggled with science but she had a way of explaining it so you understand it. I would highly recommend.
Dr. Hile is such a great lecture and lab professor! She always went above and beyond to make sure that students understood the material. She is a more than helpful lab instructor, the best I ever had! She will work one on one with you until you prove to her that you understand. She is also super laid back and personable which is a plus.
Required textbook, never got much use out of it. Gives feedback that's hard to understand/not helpful, especially because everything is online now. There was a few times I would send her my work so the she can tell me if it is correct, and she would make comments that would make me feel dumb. Easy to get a good grade, but not a consistent teacher.
Anatomy is a hard class which is why its one of the last classes needed in prerequisites for nursing. However, Dr. Hile makes anatomy an approachable and understand topic. She breaks everything down to the point where its easy to understand and for the harder concepts, shes more than willing to take extra time to explain until you do understand.
Professor Hile is a caring & understanding professor which is the kind of professor we need during this pandemic. Anatomy is hard but she breaks down the topics well & grades fairly. She responds as quickly as she can to her students emails. She also has office hours 3x a week which shows her dedication to helping her students
Such an amazing professor. Gives great feedback and responds to messages quickly. Teaches in a clear, straightforward manner. Compares subjects to real life things to paint a clear picture of each topic. Her lectures are entertaining and easy to watch. She records her lectures so if you are unable to attend live, you can view later. Kind and cares
Professor Hile made this online course enjoyable! She's available threw email, texts, and phone calls. Not much work/extra credit, but her lectures, labs, and take home exams will help you be successful on exams if you study often! She will explain concepts over and over if you're struggling! She did study reviews on content students requested.
Lab is just answering some questions and coloring in an anatomy book. No Zoom lectures. Tests are heavy, have them for lecture and lab but lab is mostly looking at models and answering what it is. Really hard to learn anything honestly. But very doable.
I think Prof Hile did her best teaching online. Lecture videos were available to watch whenever you wanted. 2-4 coloring pages due every week which were helpful and she will also look over them before you turn them in. Tests are difficult but she gives study guides that cover most of it. Wish the class was in-person but good overall!
Disclaimer: taken during COVID so 100% online Very knowledgable & respected. Her name next to a high grade looks good when applying to programs. NOT an online instructor and it showed. Reads slides and just blasts you w/info. Didn't use textbook. Weekly lab. 3 practice exams. 3 lab exams & 3 lecture exams. Would have liked to take her in person.
1. Didn't use book, use coloring book. 2. Nice & caring teacher. Can text/call 3. Online teaching isn't her speed. Probably a great teacher in person. 4. HW- pretty min. 5. Test : Lab - Study the images she provide Lecture - Study the practice test which has about 100 questions & listen to lecture . Lecture test : 50 questions. *online Covid-19
Absolutely amazing professor! She is extremely passionate about what she teaches and inspires you to work hard and learn the material. Very responsive to any inquiries made to her regarding questions or concerns. Would highly recommend to those students who care about the material they are learning and want to be successful in this course!
Do NOT take a class with her!!!!! She is RUDE and does not care about her students. She makes you feel stupid when you ask her a question. Please avoid her at all cost!!!!!!!!!!!!! If you want an A or B in anatomy take it with another professor. She will NOT help you.
I would take Professor Hile again any day. She was very knowledgeable and wanted us to succeed. If something was going to be on the test, she would let us know and had a lot of office hours for us to go to. 10/10 recommend. I felt like I actually learned.
6 exams (3 lec+3 lab), weekly colorings/quizzes, 5 pop quizzes, 50 point participation. Random xtra credit. Doesn't really teach much in lab. I learned more from Dr. E and youtube WAY more. Lab exams are easier than lecture. Must know a lot of stuff for lec exams. Average lec exam scores were between 67-72%. Not something any prof should brag about
Great professor, the only difficult part of this class is the exams. The rest of the class is super chill and only has a couple of weekly assignments which are simple. The questions on the exams are mostly from the weekly lab assignments and from the models from the labs.
Dr. Hile was so kind and caring. It's anatomy so it's going to be material-heavy. My recommendation is to read before going to class so that it isn't your very first time exposed to the material. Lab exams were much easier than lecture exams.
i absolutely loved taking professor hile. Anatomy is a tough course itself, but professor hile wants to see all her students succeed and helps in any way that she can. She makes sure you understand the material and has a practice exam prior to every exam. i highly recommend taking her!!
Told our class before our first exam that the previous class' average was 59% and sounded like she was bragging about it. Labs are quite literally all self-study with the first thirty or so minutes of her talking. Lectures are atleast PowerPoint and she says everything that is on study guides is on the exams and nothing else. Open lab on Fridays.
Labs were easy, only colorings, but there's NO structure in her class AT ALL. If you are DEDICATED to READING the textbook and HEAVY MEMORIZATION, you could do well. Study guides are little use, only provides practice exam, which only uses 4 questions on actual exam. I don't recommend, unless you can LOCK IN!
Exams are hard but doable and her study guide hardly help. Her class is anatomy but she teaches you physiology also which shouldn't be taught because that's not what this class is supposed to be about. She is passionate about helping you but it doesn't really help when she is a tough grader.
She does care about you and try to help you understand, doesn't really help when she's a tough grader, don't turn things in late because she'll dock you at least half of the assignments grade no matter what. Attendance and being on time matters, she keeps track and at the end of the semester, she'll give participation points according to her notes.
Such a great teacher! Answered all my questions. Lectured so well and so clear that I never had to open the textbook and passed every test. Ultimately your grade depends on how hard you work, but she is very helpful and wants the best for you! I highly recommend!
Professor Hile is knowledgeable, but her teaching style doesn't always translate well online. The course has a lot of assessments, but unstuck study and the practice exams were helpful for study prep.
