Lectures straight from overheads. Read thoroughly; test questions often tricky
Good lectures and examples. Doesn't discuss reading all that much but she does test on it. Easy A if you study and show up to every class.
She is always willing to help. Her overheads layout the test questions. Tests have 2 essay questions, but she gives hints as to what they will be. She also give about 10-20 points extra credit. Pay close attention to the studies she talks about.
Pretty basic class if you actually go and take notes. Outline structured on overhead, easier to follow along. Tests aren't too hard as long as you take time to study. One of the few Psych teachers I actually learned from. Interesting info!
Highly recomed. She lets you out early 90% of the time and tests are not difficult if you go to class.
Dr. Asuncion is wonderful. Very kind, straight-forward, and helpful. Psych 154 was a walk in the park; 191 is a little more difficult. I'd recommend her highly.
Her class is straight forward and she gives out study guide for tests. I like her style of teaching.
she is really good
She is awesome!!! She knows exactly what she is doing. Asuncion is a wonderful professor and teaches very well. She is organized and thorough!! She tells funny stories, fair grader, great test giver, and a fabulous person in all.
Had summer session 2003. Reasonable workload, challenging tests. Have to work for a B or above. I heard her semester class was harder.
She's a great teacher. Very knowledgeable and gives great examples. Her lectures are very organized and easy to follow. Exams are a little tricky, but she does offer EASY extra credit assignments. My favorite class of the semester!
She is a great teacher! Her exams are a little hard, but she gives a lot of easy extra credit to make up for it. You have to actually attend class and read the book to get an A. Great personality and very sweet. She will help you succeed in any way she can.
She's wonderful. She's easy, caring, and clear. If you go to class everyday and memorize her notes, you will get an A. She's also a psych advisor and will help you with any questions.
She is a great lecturer, but don't let that fool you into thinking this class is easy. She has a good sense of humor and will do what she can to help you, but you have to memorize a lot of theory and researchers or you're screwed.
One of the best professors I've had. She keeps you interested and gives great examples. 154 took in summer and was a breeze. 191 easy if you just go to class and read book. always gives extra credit opportunities.
One of the best professors I have ever had. Lectures are very organized and straight forward. Exams are a bit tough but should not be a problem if you attend lecture. Good sense of humor and gives extra credit. Recommend taking her class.
Her class is really hard but she is an awesome professor.
She is such a sweetheart and her nice personality makes somewhat boring material a lot more interesting. I would recommend her for social psych. Just read, go to every lecture, and study, and you will get an A no problem.
Probably my favorite psychology class thus far, thanks to Asuncion. Nicest professor on campus. Tests slightly difficult, but if you take notes in class (all notes are on overhead, so you just copy it down), you barely have to read the book. Professor gives good study guide and tells you important things to know before each exam. Highly recommended
She seems genuinely interested in both her students and the material and translates it well from dry textbook to more exciting real life. I had her in Summer '05. I got B's on most of her tests but got an A- for the class via extra credit points. For a good grade: Take good notes, especially what she says to remember, do ALL extra credit she offers
she's a genuinely nice and caring person. her lectures are pretty boring, but if you listen and read the book, her class is pretty easy. she's open to questions and very approachable. one of the nicest psyc prof
i have her for psyc 191 this semester and cant wait....i loved her social psyc class....her notes were easy to understand and everything was very straight foward
I took Psy-191 with her, and loved the class. I now come in and help her with the class ever semester. If you are in the class, maybe I'll see ou there.
I took it over 3 weeks in the summer semester and it was intense, but she is such a wonderful teacher that it was very easy to learn. Shes very clear and concise as to her expectations and relys on your interpretation as well as what the book says. Shes op
She is a very intelligent and knowledgable professor. I took 2 of her classes because i enjoy her teaching style and she teaches interesting subjects.

Loveable 'lil instructor, you agree?
She will challenge you but will make it benefitial for your educational career. Gives you extra credit opporutnities. Totally recommend her
Really cute and bubbly personality. Makes lectures interesting by relating topics to real life stories. Class notes are really important for the exam
Awesome teacher! Also, if you're looking for research experience, she's great to work with. I'm taking another class with her this semester and I'm sure it will be as great as the last one!
Her class is very challenging, but you'll do okay if you go to the lectures and *gasp* actually read. She's awesome and very understanding when it comes to personal situations that come up during the semester.
Awesome teacher. Tests are multiple choice, you get studyguides, very fair, draws from both lecture and textbook. Very good lectures, clear, great sense of humor, very approachable and helpful. Great for psyc majors or non-majors alike.
Great professor! I would take her again. The class was really enjoyable and time went by fast. Her tests are easy if you do the reading and go to lectures.
This class was REALLY boring. If you can pay attention during lectures, you would probably do fine, but the material is repetitive, redundant, and makes totally unnecessary distinctions. If you think you might be high in prejudice, then take the course. Otherwise, dont waste your time. Find other Upper Div GE.
She is very structured. Bases her tests on lecture and book. Very clear and easy to understand. She was a good professor, but I did not enjoy the material. I thought it would be a more interesting class.
she is funny and nice. she uses the over head, breaks all the concepts down, give examples w/real life, and is very clear. There are three short essays though out the class which are eassy to write b/c they are all about ur self. the final is just on the last three chapters.
I loved this class!! Very clear lectures, easy assignments and professor uses sense of humor to ease up things. Pay attention, take good notes and do 3 papers and you'll be fine. Highly recommended.
Dr. Asuncion is a fabulous teacher. She has awesome lecturing for a class at 9 in the morning. her lectures are highly interesting, and she is very passionate about teaching social psy. highly recommend her. tests are mostly from lectures, book reference is minimal.
Great and friendly professor! Would recommend this class to anyone who needs to satisfy upper GE area S. Even though this is a psychology of prejudice class, she is very unbiased and speaks very well in difficult topics. Assignments are okay (in-class, a few essays, group project, 3 exams). Open to what students have to say. Take her!
She is very nice
Interesting class with comprehendible material. Just go to lectures and students will do fine. She's funny and always on top of things. Really enjoyed her class.
She Was an excellent teacher. you have to do the work. If you don't do the work then you won't pass. She is very effective and her class was very fun. I am glad I took her class.
I would definitely recommend you take a 121 class with her. She teaches the social section, and runs the class as if it was a grad course. The beginning you worked with a grad student (or professor in psych department) then she lets you go off and do your own project. She is always there to help you in office and via email. Great teacher overall
Great teacher! She's funny and makes the lectures easy to pay attention to. Go to class since majority of material covered in class is on the tests, only a little from the book so you do need it. 4 simple papers, 3 test and the final, gives a good study guide so tests are easy if you study. overall an enjoyable class, you should take her.
Very good teacher
You had to come to EVERY lecture. Most of the exam is based on lecture material. If you miss a class you will be lost. It's important to mention that she will NOT give you notes if you miss class under any cirmcumstance. You snooze you lose! She plays favorites too and her lecture is so boring--old overhead not powerpoint.
You must attend every lecture in order to get the notes for the test. Some test questions are from the book, but most are from lectures. She is really easy going and makes listening to lectures fun with all her personal stories. Grading is fair, when a curve is needed she will curve but only by a couple points-IF NEEDED. Very interesting class!
Attend every class to do well. Book is hardly ever used. She is well-spoken, competent, knowledgeable, and approachable, but not such a nice grader. Often times you'll get papers back with a 3/5 or 4/5 score on it and she will have 0 feedback marks. This is her style, so get used to it. She's very friendly, but don't think she's an easy A. no way.
Dr. Asuncion is very nice & helpful. Just do the assignments then you will be fine.
I thoroughly enjoyed this course with Dr. Asuncion. She is very understanding and accommodating. I loved her sense of humor, and her class actually made sense. You must study for the 3 exams, and final (non-cumulative). We had to write a few papers, but they are very manageable. She is very well-structured. I highly recommend her.
Great Professor. Yeah she used the overhead, but her notes are simple. Use your notes and you?ll do fine. 4 papers (Extremely Easy) 2pgs long. 4 multiple choice test (Supper Easy) just review notes from class and light reading.
Very easy teacher to take classes with...uses over head notes which can be boring and there are a few group assignments. She is an easy teacher to understand and talk to, she also gives extra credit opportunities...the tests are a bit difficult but if you study hard enough you will ace them
Clear and concise, well organized. Not too much work; few reasonable paperworks, fun to do project, and three exams. Good quality overall.
Good teacher. Mixes up the assignments. Relies too heavily on knowing details of studies that may not be very applicable to real-life. Exams were a challenge.
This is my second time taking one of Prof Asuncion's classes. I like her. She is very clear and easy to understand. Her assignments are fair and so is her grading and tests. It's an easy class if you come to class, take notes, do hw and tests. Pretty straightforward...nothing to it.
Great teaching style. No book require. Very easy to understand and willing to give extra credit if needed. Overall, i would rate this prof. a 9, she is great professor. Test are M/C and based on lectures, so make sure to go to class. If not, you'll miss out alot of info.
I love her! She makes you interested in the class, explains assignments clearly. She lectures very well and you don't really need to read the book except for what she tells you you need for the test. She's super funny and very approachable. You must go to class, because everything is based off lectures. There is a lot of work, but worth it.
Got to attend class or read the book. Book is a easy read. She doesn't give slide access like other teachers, she said it forces people to attend class. Wrong! I just thought this was strange, but she is nice and funny...I recommend her.
super amazing teacher, extremely well organized and helpful. ya she doesn't put the slides online, but she does give you ample time to write them down in class, which i prefer anyway. just study and come to class to get an A.
She is an awesome teacher although she is not a big fan of giving her lecture notes to students. if you miss a day of class, you probably missed out on at least a couple exam questions
I freakin' LOVE Dr. Asuncion. She has a really great sense of humor and her lectures are great. I had her for a 7:30am (yikes) lecture and I learned SO much from this woman. Highly recommend.
Her lecture are engaging , humorous, and clear. I actually enjoyed coming to class. Attendance is mandatory to take notes. I felt well prepared for EVERY exam. Exams are MC and 2 short essay questions given ahead of time. There are four 2-3 pg papers about your experiences in life and that's the whole class. I absolutely recommend her for SocialPsy
Great, enjoyable and interesting professor. Involves everyone and encourages class participation. As long as you pay attention, do the readings and take good notes(she doesn't give out the ppts), a grade <=B+ is very possible.
Lectures are boring and she doesn't post powerpoint slides. You have four 2-3 page essays on your feelings however her grading for the assignment is ambiguous. She post 2 study guides one for her lecture and one for the book, which was useless cause half of it wasn't on the test. Overall inconsistent professor and boring lectures.
Arlene is silly which makes lectures interesting. She really knows her subject. My only complaint is that grade is based heavily on tests. If you aren't a great exam taker than you won't get an A. Not much extra credit or other assignments available to boost grade. 4 midterms totally 200 pts and 4 papers totaling 20 pts. tests are not easy. study
Dr. A is so down to earth, so nice, and really approachable. Her tests are NOT easy. Study notes and read book. She is great! Love her, take any of her classes that you can.
Pretty much agree with what everyone has been saying. Yes she does not post slides up so attendance is mandatory to do well on the exams. Before each exam she tells you what to review in the textbook. Essays are extremely easy! I always got a 4 or 5.Overall really nice professor!
I do not recommend taking her class at 7:30am. It is hard to pay attention. She really knows what shes talking about and delivers the information well with nice examples to make it easily understandable. 4 exams with essay questions that are hard. She is very approachable and super understanding. She wants all her students to succeed.
I rcvd worse grades on exams than I thought I would. I attended every class and took notes, but some chapters in book I breezed through due to time constraints--So read text. I appreciated the relevant studies she cites throughout the course, and thought they were very helpful in relating the topic to real-world. I found essays easy if studied.
there will be no slacking in this class. Mandatory note taking and tough exams. Better study up- if you don't you will fail. The good thing about a challenging class is you actually LEARN. Funny, kind, hard-working woman. I took her twice and learned the most from her.
There's no way you can't get an A in this class if you just put in the effort. She gives you the essay questions for the test ahead of time and basically all of the info you need for the MCQ and essays are in her powerpoints. Just make sure you show up to class because she doesn't post them online and review her study guide ahead of time for an A
Knows her stuff. Go to class!!!! she does not post her lectures so you must get them from class. would totally take her again. very funny and makes material very relatable. take asuncion!!!!!!!
SERIOUSYL! Take her class, she is the best teacher and has the best lectures that I had before. She gives great examples to make you understand better. Also, her tests are from her lecture so you better attend class to get her lectures. Be careful, the 3rd test is not from her lectures, and you don't need textbook for sure!
I loved Dr. Asuncion. she is very funny and love what she does. The exams are a bit hard but if you take time and study you will do well. The other assignments were pretty easy and she offers extra credit. I took her for 154 and 191. I recommend her!
She is so funny. Her tests are pretty hard though. 4 tests, 4 papers (3 pg max). Extra credit opportunities. I usually get A's in my classes but after bombing the 3rd exam it was impossible to get an A. Just one of those classes that you have to study a lot for and you have to be a good test taker.
My favorite professor, ever. Exams are clear, no tricky wording or questions. She basically gives you the exam before hand because her study guide is spot on. She also gives you four possible short answer questions before hand. Her lectures are funny and entertaining. Class attendance is a must because she does not post lectures. Just take her!
Professor Asuncion is a great teacher, she's passionate about what she teachers but I do have to say her tests are hard. She bases your overall grade on your tests, if your biggest weakness are tests I recommend do not take her class. Her tests are hard but if you do all the assignments plus extra credit guarantee at C.
Dr. Asuncion is one of the best teachers at SJSU. She makes her lectures very clear and fun. Expect to laugh every class. She gives extra credit opportunities depending on possible research participation or guest speaker lectures. Tests can be difficult but as long as you go to class and study notes, you should be fine. 4 Papers are easy and fun.
Lectures aren't posted online so you def have to attend in order to get the material. She's super nice and funny, tells you stories in order to help you relate to the material better and gives a lot of EC. Her exams are MC and short answer (she gives you possible questions beforehand). There are also 4 easy papers to write, 2pg ea. Kinda easy A
awesome instructor, funny, interesting, and has good stories that relate to the material. a couple of short papers, a group project, three tests. definitely taking her again.
Dr. Asuncion is kind, and very knowledgable about social psychology. She is super organized and very thorough. There are four exams and she gives great study guides. There are also 4 mini papers throughout the course of the semester. Be sure to show up for class because she doesn't post her lecture slides online. Would love to take her again!
So I took her because she has one of the highest ratings on this site but other than being hilarious and gregarious alike her lectures are quite monotonous and rarely involve serious discussion between conflicting ideas. I thought this class would be more discussion and innovation, but it's a bunch of projects and long lectures which aren't online.
Long lectures, lots of material but still got let out early most days! She's hilarious, always throwing in jokes during lecture. The syllabus had all the assignments and points clearly laid out. Test are very straight forward multiple choice with two essay questions that she gives ahead of time. Great, interesting class. Easy A if you attend class.
Dr. Asuncion is a very kind and funny professor. Her lectures are quite lively and she keeps the material interesting. She's very understanding and she cares about her students. There are 4 short papers and 4 exams (none of which are accumulative). We are in college, so yes, this class requires reading and regular attendance. Highly recommended!
WHAT CAN YOU SAY SHE IS PRETTY AWESOME, AS MY FIRST SEMESTER AT SJSU I HAVE TO SAY SHE IS PROBABLY MY FAVORITE PROFESSOR AS OF NOW. SHE IS SO ANIMATED I LOVE LISTENING TO HER LECTURES. SHE DOES HAVE A STRICT NO LATE STUFF BUT SHE IS SO UNDERSTANDING! BEST PROFESSOR EVER! HOPE TO TAKE MORE CLASSES WITH HER.
if you're on the fence about taking her... do it you won't regret it. She is a really great professor and her lectures are very clear.
She's a good teacher but you will have to work a lot harder for an A compared to other classes. each test is only 30 multiple choice questions and 2 free response, her test are pretty difficult so youll need to study her lecture notes AND the textbook. gives 2 study guides per test which is overboard tbh. this is NOT a class you can just breeze by
Asuncion is the most approachable teacher I've ever had at SJSU! She has a laid back teaching style. There's one media group project, one 5 page interview project (you can conduct on close friend), and mini 3 pg papers along the way. She provides the written questions that are gonna be on exams. OH, she ends class early almost every single day!
She is nice and funny, but her lectures are pretty dull and she does not really care to hide it. She is intelligent and well spoken. Her tests are difficult, never got 100%. You need the LECTURES and TEXTBOOK. Many hidden answers in the textbook. She gives study guides, but they aren't helpful enough to skip class. There are group projects & papers
DR. asuncion is a great teacher, funny, and very nice. I would definitely take her again. Class is pretty easy but the tests do require a good amount of studying.
Prof A is amazing! She is very intelligent about the subject and makes the class fun with her humor. The only thing I don't like is that your grades are not posted on canvas throughout the semester. Attendance is not mandatory but she does do random in-class assignments for points. If you read and study, the class is an easy A!
Shes a great person and professor. but her test are extremely hard. You have to study really hard for them both lectures and book. 4 Exams and 4 writing paper and any random class activity that counts towards participation point. Not an easy class to take but shes a good professor though.
Dr. Asuncion is a fantastic lecturer. Entertaining, funny, engaging, and has great examples for the concepts. 4 papers and 4 tests. Papers are very easy and take from your own experiences. Her tests however. Understanding the concepts isn't enough, you need to have specific memorization of the minute differences and select between close options
Dr. Asuncion is my favorite professor at SJSU. She delivers the information well and has a great attitude. She is very clear about her expectations and provided very interesting content. Have to show up to class because she doesn't post her lectures on Canvas. Tests are a little difficult, make sure you study!
nice professor because she sticks to the syllabus but even after receiving full credit on all the assignments and doing all of the extra credit it was so test heavy that I was not able to receive any grade higher than a B. I had to ace all of the exams to receive an A regardless of acing all of essays, projects and assignments. Do good on the exam.
Professor Asuncion really cares about her students. She has a great sense of humor and she's very approachable. Class slides are VERY helpful for the exams. Make friends with someone and share notes/work on study guides together.
Dr. Asuncion is a great prof! You will have to attend every class, however, her lectures are worth it. She uses slides (helpful) and uses examples to elaborate on various topics! Textbook is necessary. Amazing class! :)
This course is completely online and asynchronous. Every module includes her lectures, study guides, a discussion post, an assignment related to the content, and SOMETIMES a short paper. The modules are to be done in about 3 weeks so it is not too overwhelming (I've gotten them done all in one day). There's work to do but you'll definitely learn!:)
Professor Asuncion is one of my favorite professors I have had at SJSU! Her lectures are so interesting and she gives great feedback on your work. She really cares about her students and wants them to succeed. I will definitely be taking her for my 191 class!
Her class is pretty straightforward. Watch the lecture videos then do the discussion, the papers, and the quizzes. There's no big paper or big assignment. Textbook is not that necessary. Just watch the videos and you'll pass with flying colours.
The class is asynchronous and overall very straightforward. However, there is a lot of reading and lecture videos to watch weekly for this class. The lectures have good content but the professor's voice is monotone and sometimes that makes it difficult to really focus on the information being presented.
AVOID! I had her for 2 classes and both classes I had an 89% (she doesn't round up). For her 191 class specifically, be prepared to write a paper every week. She's somewhat a hard grader too. Make sure to apply course material to reflections. You HAVE to watch her lectures if you want to pass. She gives too much homework compared to other classes.
Class scored an avrg. of 65% on Quiz 2. We all messaged her saying to extend the time for quizzes. She said no, continuously blame us for our poor scores. Practically said that it's our fault that we scored so low. It was a class situation and she refuses to accept that she's a horrible prof
The class itself wasn't difficult but the quizzes were slightly hard. If you have good study habits, you should be fine. The worst part was the video lectures which consist of 2-3 videos per chapter and each video is approx. 40-50 minutes long. A lot of extra credit opportunities. Dr. Asuncion is a great professor!
Need to watch the lectures and take notes as well as read the book to do well on quizzes. Offers a ton of extra credit so do it. Took it online and she tells us not to use notes on quizzes but everyone does. Def would be harder in person. Not the worst class I've taken but not easy.
I thought this class was going to be easy, but boy, was I wrong. The quizzes were hard and the questions tend to be tricky and misleading. We're not allowed to use our notes & book. On top of that, she told us to figure it out ourselves. She gives boring feedback on our essays. Lectures are as long as movies. 10/10 regret signing up for this class
Professor Asuncion is such a great professor. Many students complain that her lectures are too long but that is only because they are very informative and full of information. If you watch all her lectures you will for sure be able to take the quizzes. Also require a little bit of textbook reading. This class is difficult but professor is great.
Class average for exams were a C. Half the class struggled. HW/essays are easy but exams are difficult. She makes it tricky and very wordy. I did terrible on first exam but rest well but I had to spend time studying. Even with studying its not easy and not enough time so have to rush. Take notes on EVERYTHING. You must watch lectures to pass.
Lectures are usually easy to understand. Can be slow so I would watch at 2x speed. Essays/assignments/discussions are EASY. My problem is with her exams. They are TOO difficult and not enough time. Tricky questions. Half or maybe MOST struggled with exams. She refuses to accept that she is the problem! Online is hard but AVOID taking in person.
She is awesome teacher and person, but the test are tough
Only take this class if you must! Professor Asuncion is knowledgeable but assigns 5-8 videos per module that are about 40 minutes each. 2 study guides per module at least 5-10 pages each, but then she says we cannot use them for exams. If you are taking this as a summer course, I would recommend this as your only course. It is an overload of work.
super funny and caring lady! Lectures are kinda boring, but go cause she doesn't post them(make friends and share notes). Not a lot of work, a few mini papers(2 pages), 3 bigger ones, EC, and 3 exams. Not a lot of work, but do study cause the exams do impact your grade. Papers save you, so follow the directions and do the EC. Interesting content
Technically good, but tests are hard. Write down almost everything from the video lectures (they're long, 40 minutes), You'll need those notes. Study guides are also helpful. There are about 4 essays but they are only 2 pages long. Doable if you are willing to write down the notes that you can refer to later. Don't procrastinate. Take online.
Asynchronous class: watched 40 min YouTube lectures tests and quizzes were kinda difficult if you didn't read the textbook 4 short essays about your experiences, not hard
Amazing online class! Little written papers but they are mostly opinion based so there is no extra research needed. Lectures are good and she gives you a timeline so you know when lectures should be viewed by. Take this class!
Had her for the first five-week summer session. Everything was straightforward with the course, fun and easy. There are 4 Exams in which the final is included, discussion post (no reply to student's post required), 4 essays (2 pages max), and 3 extra credit assignments.
Professor Asuncion's class is straightforward but challenging. The lectures can be long, and the exams are quite tricky. For success, watch the videos closely, take detailed notes, and use Unstuck study alongside other study tools. The work is manageable if you stay on top of it.
Dr. Asuncion is easily one of my favorite professors, she is caring and funny. Her class is challenging because of the content and how test-heavy this class is. Make sure to attend all lectures as they are crucial for exams.
The lectures are long and boring and made me think I have narcolepsy. Tricky tests make it hard to get an A even if you study. The teacher seemed exaspartated and fed up with us. Talks about how looooooong she's been at SJSU. Wants to retire.
Love her! One of my favorite professors here at SJ. She is hilarious and prepares you well for all assignments and exams. Pay attention to lectures (go to class) and always review her study guides. Exams and quizzes can be hard if you don't look at her lectures notes AND the textbook.
The class was manageable and well-structured. I enjoyed doing the essays, she focused the prompts on relating the course material to your own experiences. Everything was reasonable, and her grading was pretty quick.
