The worst!
She's not too bad!! I got a B!
Nice enough lady, but class sucks. You effort will be put into staying awake rather than learning. Use the book to teach yourself because all she does are a few examples. Difficult tests. You will have to force urself to attend class.
The worst teacher I have had at JMU!
Not good!
Going to this class was the worst part of my week, every time. ABSOLUTLY HORRIBLE experiene, so unwilling to help outside of class, I have NO CLUE where those 2 others are pulling 5's from, but I worked my butt off for a C, and I mean WORKED. DO NOT TAKE!
Very unfair grading!
worst teacher ever, doesn't understand her own notes, and can't understand the english language
I don't know where she came from but I would appreciate it if she went back. A hard professor! NEVER NEVER take this class unless u are wanting 2 stress out over your GPA 24/7. NEVER NEVER TAKE THIS CLASS!!! I WARN YOU THE DEVIL WOULD EVEN HAVE TROUBLE!
I must have met a different lady than the rest of the people who rated her. She isnt satan, and her english is fine. She gives partial credit which many math profs dont do, and she drops the lowest 2 quiz grades and even the lowest exam grade. i would recommend her for this course.
math teachers get a bad rap, but this woman is the most ineffective teacher i've ever had. she refuses to answer questions, she just shrugs, SHRUGS!? she's pretty much just a distraction. If you get her i'm sorry, just read your book and memorize EVERYTHING, and ignore her as much as you can.
Nice lady. Her accent is not helpful in a math that is very language-based. Is kind of a smartass when you ask for help, but she will help you. Do homework problems and go to class. Not the easiest, but you can make it through if you put forth the effort.
I was interested in statistics before taking the class; at least willing to pay high tuition and buy an expensive book, attend class, listen to professor and do homework. Casiple seemed to hate the subject herself, and now so do I. Stick to courses where the prof likes the material!!!
Her accent is perfectable understandable. I think most students here are just looking for an excuse for their poor performance and do not like her high standards. I found her to be easy to understand if you studied and did your work. "T'is a good reader that makes a good book."
Most AWFUL professor at JMU. Granted, I hate Math, but, when I have a teacher who actually TEACHES, I can do well. Arlene Casiple is NOT that person. She does not want to help and will think you're stupid if you don't get something. IMPOSSIBLE tests, unclear lectures, and she will TORTURE you!
SHE IS NOT THAT BAD! You MUST read the book and understand it, but she's clear in her leacture, and her accent is very understandable, and she answered my questions when I needed help. You can do well, but you must go to class, pay attention, study, read and answer questionsin terms of the problem.
She explained the concepts well in class and I understood the main points. However, you have to study alot if you want to do well in this class. If you work hard and memorize things that she wants you to include in the problems you can usually do ok.
Horrible.
the material in general isn't too tough, and the book is pretty helpful, but the main problem is her inability to vocalize/explain the overall concepts in class. If you are not a math person and do not understand math vocab, stay away, because all she knows is math vocabulary.
My friends all take stats and don't like it. I concur, but while they get good grades and spend less time studying than I do, I get poor grades and study my ass off. She is a nice lady and whatnot, but the teaching is subpar and the tests and quizes are hard, no striaght forward questions.
not as bad as everyone says...if you go to class and ask questions you will understand it and her..very helpful, and moves quick but if you do the hw on time then you wont fall behind
I don't know what everyone's talking about, this class is not difficult. If you go to class and do the homework on time, you will be fine! She's the nicest lady and very willing to help you. She's also really funny and approachable. The tests are fair and she never tries to trick you.
Statistics is a hard course in itself, but Casiple gives you enough examples to get you through the homework, which is lengthy, but will help you tremedously on the exams- 2 midterms, one final. Her accent is fine, you can completely understand every word she says. She's not as bad as everyone says.
STAY AWAY FROM THIS CLASS!! I placed out of this class on the entrance math exam that you take the summer before freshman year, so I thought it wouldn't be too hard. WRONG ANSWER. She will make you want to kill yourself on the steps of Burruss Hall everyday that you go to that class. BAD! BAAAAAAD!!
She speaks very proper english and you barely can tell she even has an accent. She is an excellent teacher and explains everything very clearly. You'll have about 6 quizes to help your grade and 2 tests. I definetely recommend her.
DO NOT TAKE CASIPLE!! for the love of god, do not take casiple... if you are trying to maintain sanity or a good gpa, i would NOT recommend this woman/creature... she gives ridiculous random hw quizzes, takes off points for miniscule mistakes on tests... basically. DO NOT TAKE HER!
she goes fast when explaining new material, but if you do the hw on time and ASK QUESTIONS you will do fine. She will answer any of your questions, so dont hesitate. Tests aren't bad and she drops the lowest quiz, hw, and test score (if you did good on the final).
DONT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR. She is a nice lady, but she cannot teach. She will help you if you want, but if you want a grade better than a C or even D then you have to be on top of everything and know everything. Meaning you even have to read the textbook . . . in math
Please steer clear. I know A LOT of majors have to take stat, but try not to get slotted with Casiple if you're in honors. She's nice, but she is VERY nitpicky on tests. I just saw someone get a 50% on a quiz where she got everything right. Also, class is the most boring thing ever, and she has an attendance policy. PLEASE stay away. The smiley faces are WAY too overly tolerant.
I'm not very good at math, so it may have something to do with it... but she isn't a very good teacher. If you're not good at math and need a professor to explain things well, you shouldn't take her. There are better professors as JMU in the math dept. However, she seems nice enough.
Don't take her
She is very kind and has good intentions. Sometimes she tells stories of her past which kind of keeps class interesting. She only takes attendance when she remembers to. The quizzes and exams are not too hard, but they do require some outside studying. Overall, I don't see any reason to avoid her as a professor. YOU COULD DO FAR WORSE!!!
Terrible. Doesn't allow scientific calculators which are necessary for a lot of the work. Math was always fun to me before taking this class.
Although she is very nice and willing to help, she is not a great teacher. She goes quickly and usually is vague, but will stop and answer questions. DO THE HOMEWORK, and the tests and quizzes will not be hard.
She was incredibly hard and didn't teach the material, I had to learn it myself and I still didn't do well on the quizzes or exams. I advise not taking her.
Very nice person but unfortunately she is horrible at teaching during class. She is helpful if you visit her during her office hours and ask her specific questions. Tough class but studying hard will get you through.
She is really sweet, but if you don't follow her then stats is going to suck for you. She doesn't teach and if you can't teach yourself then kiss your grade goodbye. She is smart and knows her stuff but that doesn't mean you will know any part of what she knows when you leave the class.
Nice person. provides many examples. do the homework and you'll be fine. there's nothing suprising on the tests if you do the homework and go to class.
You may have read such things as "Satan reincarnated on Earth" or "complete ****" They are all true. DO NOT TAKE HER. SHE SUCKS. AVOID AT ALL COSTS.
She is a great teacher. Anyone complains about her teaching is simply an idiot who doesn't deserve to be a college student. If you study a bit, you'll be fine. She is so nice, so take her class!
The class itself is hard, no doubt, but Casiple does her best to help you out. Go to her office hours so she can help you out and understand where you're coming from. You have to do the homework to get through the class. The help center in Warren really saved me. She isn't the easiest, but she's not the worst.
An extremely difficult class. The final exam was torture. She is willing to help, but I found her help to be useless. If there is another opening, avoid her. Nice lady and does tell an off-topic story here and there, but not worth struggling through. And anyone who lies and gives her 5's in everything shouldn't be a college student.
Her material isn't that hard to understand, she tends to explain well. She is just hard to listen to for an extended period of time.
take my advice and avoid this professor. stats is required for almost every major and there are much better professors out there.
Not going to say that her class is easy, but she is very clear when she teaches topics and very helpful when you don't understand. good at explaining things. checks hw for accuracy and gives quizzes every few chapters. SPSS projects are basically free As if you just do it
She's really not that bad at all. You just really need to go top all the classes. I don't like math that much, and Im pulling a B plus-A minus. People whine because they do not put any effort into it. Take notes and its really not that hard at all.
one word. horrible.
She was pretty hard and her lessons were a little hard to follow, but she wasn't as bad as most people say she is. If you ask for help she will help you. Just study A LOT!
Since I have to keep it clean, I will keep it short - no way should you take this professor!
Simply the most confusing and worst lecturer I have ever seen. I have been very happy with my other professors at JMU, but this one really is horrible.
Not the best teacher......she's better one and one. If you take her class you will be spending alot of time in her office getting help.
Casiple is a terrifically nice lady, but her lectures are unbelieveably vague and not at all helpful or informative. I took Stats at my last school, and we are through with half of the chapter before I realize that I've done this before. Her quizzes and tests are very difficult. Do all the homework to even have a prayer for this class.
This is class is very difficult. She is one of the only teachers that does not let her students use a graphing calculator to get through this program. There are quizzes every week (including homework quizzes). The tests are so hard, you have to study for hours. She is a difficult teacher. I do not recommend taking this course from her.
Things start out slow and it seems tolerable, but after the first exam (which is after you invest way to much time to drop) you realise that you really have no chance to pull an A. If you have a stat background you should be fine, but if you do not or are not strong at math you definitly need to get out of that class.
I really like her as a person, but she is a very difficult teacher. Her lectures seem helpful while they are in class but then when you get home and do the homework it makes no sense. Her exams are so hard...they are almost intolerable. If you are good at Stats you are probably fine but if not, I would try to get another professor.
****in mongolian philipino ****
DO NOT TAKE CASIPLE! She can't explain anything! Skipping class, even with a good excuse, results in a 0!!! Lots of homework! Templates are terrible, you have no idea what to do! Pick somebody else, even if this means 8 AM!!! I hate her intense!!! Seriously, I hate her!!!
A lot of people say that this class is really hard, but as long as you go to class and take a little time to study she really isn't that bad. It isn't hard to get a C or better. The only thing that sucks is she collects homework and its like 1 or 2 at random from all of the homework you did for one chapter.
this class was horrible. she can't teach and doesn'tcare if you fail her tests..no curves...but if you want to pass you better be in class everyday...there are random homework checks which suck...her test average is around a 63...take an 8am class before you take her
Im still wondering why I don't have an E yet in this class. No attendance policy, but if you don't go you'll be lost. 3 exams, lowest is dropped. homework quizzes, announced chapter quizzes. Easy C, hard B/A. Sweet lady, I wouldn't take her again though
Boring prof. Just go to class, try to pay attention, read the book. Exams are easy, she uses hw probs. Do your hw! Random hw checks. She talks about a lot of worthless stuff, makes u zone out most of the time.
Only take this class with Casiple if you want to spend an entire semester teaching yourself the material and yanking all of the hair out of your head. She knows her stuff, but can't teach it. Assigns homework... randomly will ask for only one of the hardest problems from the HW to grade. Tests are very hard, no extra credit offered. AVOID!!!!!!
Do you homework for the homework checks. I fellt like I understood everything very clearly in class and while doing homework but then tests would be impossible and I would just be so lost. Not an easy class if you want a good grade but she is a nice lady and I never really had a problem with it.
If you can teach yourself the material from the book then you will be fine. Otherwise, find another teacher. She moves at an EXTREMELY fast pace and before you can think of a question to ask she moves on to the next thing. I was on chapter 7 when my friend who was taking the same class with a different prof. was on chapter 3.
Was worried in the begining, but turned out to be a great class. She is a good teacher, and gives lots of examples during class. two exams and one cumulative final.Get her if at all possible
RUNNN!!! She's impossible. She gets annoyed when you ask her to go back and clarify something. She isnt helpful at all and the book is the only way to learn the material.
OMG! please avoid this woman if you ever want to pass stats. She has no idea how to teach I am sure she is a nice person and all but her communication skills are terrible, she assigns all sorts of homework....which yes she collects and then grades without ever going over it in class so umm if you didnt get it too bad
Casiple is a very nice woman. She is also the hardest teacher i have had at JMU. Unlike most statistics classes, she does not let you use a graphing calculator. Many kids in my class did not pass. If you arent great a math find a different teacher
Casiple is a very nice and genuine women. She doesn't explin things well. She does move at a fast pace. She collects homework throughout the semester though she tells you when. Her quizzes and tests are very wordy..must read carefully. If need help go to MATH HELP CENTER. Casiple is willing to help, but just isnt good at explining. Not impossibe.
Be prepared to teach yourself. Sit in the front row so it's like she's teaching to you and you have a better chance of understanding. If you ask a question or a question wrong she looks at you like you're stupid. She doesn't explain the material well at all. All her examples come straight from the book so just read the book instead. Hate her!
She is a nice woman, and is willing to help you if you see her during office hours. However, she does move very quickly, does not give study guides, and gives you almost no way to know how you are doing until you're already doing poorly. I survived with a B. Getting a good grade is possible, just stay on top of things. You do have to work.
all the negative comments are true. really nice woman, just can't teach stats! you take notes from a power point which she gets straight from the book. i was amazed that i got a B in the class. do as much hw as you can and go see her during office hours if possible. if at all possible, do not take her!!
You have to pay attention and ask questions in class. the class starts off kind of easy, but don't be fooled because it gets hard really fast! it helps to go to the math lab if you don't understand things
First of all, she is extremely hard to understand because of her accent and mispronounciations. Secondly, her tests/quizzes are completely impossible and are not what she teaches at all. For an example, my friend and I read the chapter, did the homework, took notes, and went to class and got a 60 on a quiz. Thirdly, she makes you feel stupid. RUN
DO NOT TAKE HER CLASS IF YOU WANT TO PASS MATH. shes hard to understand, she doesnt teach anything and her tests and quizzes arent on anything she teaches in class.
listen to everyone here. maybe nice lady, honestly dont know why she teaches. all her ppt's are made by the book, if u ask her for help well, let me know. tests are difficult to understand, plus the accent..if u know ur not good at math, this is not the "teacher" to get. basically, dont take this class unless u dont need to be taught.
I would recommend taking statistics with another teacher if possible, if not... get a tutor or go to the learning center for help, because you're going to need it. She just reads out powerpoints. Not very good at explaining so that we know what the heck we are doing. The midterm wasn't so bad, but I seriously fear the final...
Terrible Teacher. Plan on teaching yourself. Doesn't answer questions. AVOID!!!
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS! shes crazy and you cant understand anything she says. her tests arent worded right and theyre very hard. avoid her
This class is incredibly hard mainly because she goes through the power points so fast you spend the whole class trying to remember what was on the previous slide. She is helpful outside of class, but during class there is no time to ask questions. Tests are HARD because of the wording. She is a nice woman but AVOID THIS CLASS!!!!!
She teaches because..? I have NO IDEA what I've learned this semester. She teaches by the book then makes up her own Q's on tests that are in a different format/wording making it hard to relate to how you learned it in class. She can't write in English at all so I never understand what she's asking for on quizzes/tests. Horrible, avoid!!!
Worst Teacher Ever
STOP. NO NO NO. OK NOW THAT I HAVE YOUR ATTENTION, LET ME REITERATE MYSELF. DO NOT TAKE THIS TEACHER. RUN IN THE OPPOSITE DIRECTION.
Don't you dare
Just don't. If you see her name for course availability, just pretend it's not there. You will hate yourself and your choice forever if you take this professor. She talks and all you hear is "Blah blah blah..." she miscalculates grades and cannot teach for beans. I do not know who hired her, but they should sincerely rethink their decision.
GET OUT GET OUT GET OUT NOW!!! This teacher is the WORST do NOT take this class.
she was horrible... stats is tough she made it impossible if you want to do well take another teacher
would not recommend even to those who are good at math. listen to the other 5 million people on here who have said it...DO NOT TAKE!
Worst teacher I've ever had in any subject EVER. I quickly realized that Casiple would not be a helpful instructor. She does not like explaining things to her students, she talks down the them, she is not available outside of class, and she doesn't explain one of the toughest geneds well at all. DO NOT TAKE HER STATS CLASS!
quite possibly the absolute WORST professor you will ever encounter in four years at JMU...
I'm really interested in knowing who gave this woman a job. She is the absolute worst teacher I have had so far; she cannot teach the material, and what she does teach is not even on the tests. AVOID AT ALL COSTS.
soo... Everyone told me not to listen to ratemyprofessor because people only write on here if they don't like the teacher. DO NOT TAKE HER! GET OUT GET OUT GET OUT! everything that everyone has said about her is the honest truth. she is terrible, not worth a damn teacher.
Only take this teacher if you are willing to do a great deal of self-teaching. She's very nice and willing to help, but really hard to understand (not because of her accent, though). Prior stat knowledge would definitely be helpful, but avoid this teacher.
absolute WORST decision of my life to take this class! Math is usually my favorite subject and while I understand that stats is not like usual math, I was surprised at how dreadful I did. She is a very nice lady but she is incapable of teaching, especially on a college level. Thanks for bringing my GPA down, Professor Casiple.
AVOID HER AT ALL COST. She can NOT TEACH at all. People say to read the book but even then it's hard to understand it. She doesn't explain anything well at all. If you have to take her get to know the math help center really well and ignore what she says cause it will just confuse you more. Good luck if you have to take her
Arlene cannot teach whatsoever. She confuses the material and makes it more difficult than it is in nature. Taking this class only confused my prior understanding of statistics. She should be fired because she does not know how to teach. Nice lady, terrible teacher.
Good grief this woman shouldn't be teaching. She rambles and goes through her powerpoints like its a race. (granted they're on black board)avoid her. it's not worth it. RUN.
Don't. you. dare. DON'T EVEN THINK ABOUT IT. RUN IN THE OTHER DIRECTION! when you see her name for course availability pretend it's not there. just don't do it or you will HATE yourself. she is the WORST teacher i have ever had in my LIFE not kidding. i wonder who gave her a job because they should be fired along with her. she is just plain awful.
HORRIBLE HORRIBLE HORRIBLE class. Everyone was constantly confused. The entire class spent the morning of the final in the math help center freaking out. She makes you buy and right a paper on a pointless book right before the final, which is ultimately just a waste of time and money. Don't even consider taking this class. Don't.
DO NOT REGISTER FOR THIS PROFESSOR. SHE IS HORRIBLE!!!!!
Casiple seems like a nice lady, but she should not be teaching Statistics. She could do research work in Stats and be fine. She doesn't clearly explain what you're learning. She also flew through SPSS like everyone had used it before. Follow the other reviews here and avoid this class. She makes Stats harder than it has to be.
HEED THIS WARNING YOU WILL FAIL THIS CLASS. And if you dont it will sure as hell bring down your GPA with this professor. SHE CANNOT TEACH. The online time you should take her is ONLINE WHEN YOU DO NOT SEE HER (ps if you do take her online she is virtually impossible to get a hold of).
She is a very confusing teacher and doesn't seem to know what she's talking about. Even if she did know what she was talking about, she didn't know how to explain anything at all. I FAILED THIS CLASS so I'm going to have to use a repeat-forgive this semester, but luckily I found another teacher. Don't take her, it will pull your GPA down and stre
If you don't have any background in statistics, do not take her! I took her last year and got a D. I using one of my repeat forgive grades on her because it is my lowest grade in a class so far. Im currently taking L. Xu and she is fantastic, so take her!
Really nice lady, just a bit confusing. If you have at least a decent bg in math and are willing to put in the effort on your own you'll be fine. I have an A so far...just do the examples and hw and it's not bad. Wouldn't highly recommend her but she's not impossible...
DON'T take stats with this teacher!Terrible! Never clear about what my overall grade was. Didnt put midterms up in time to withdraw from the class. I put a lot of time and effort into trying to do well and got nowhere. She's a nice person, just would NOT recommend taking stats with her. Avoid at all costs!
Difficult to understand Statistics with this professor. She may have a good knowledge of statistics, but isn't very good at teaching the subject. If you can get into another class taught by another professor, I recommend that you do it. Also, I don't understand why she doesn't allow the use of a scientific calculator, when other professors do.
After looking at all of the previous comments on this professor I decided to still give her a try, figuring that I could just teach it to myself, of worse comes to worse. But I was sorely mistaken. I would AVOID AT ALL COSTS. Needless to say I dropped right after the midterm.
A really nice woman, but a pretty confusing Stats teacher. If you've taken Statistics before, the class is definitely manageable between her help and using the textbook. If this is your first time with Stats I would try to get someone else.
She is absolutely horrible! I gave her a try figuring that everyone was overexagerating. THEY WEREN'T! She can't speak english well and moves way to quick to even copy notes. she jumps from subject to subject without actually explaining stuff. she grades hard and wont answer questions. AVOID HER CLASS.
Hard teacher. I highly recomend being exceptionally good in algebra/stat before taking this teacher. I failed midterm but was able to pull to a B- because of a high score on final(was not easy), which also replaced my midterm grade. Attendence is not mandatory but I highly recomend going to class, so you don't miss anything.
This professor is really hard. I managed to pull of an A- because she replaces your midterm grade if you get a better grade on the final. If you go to her office hours, she is a lot more helpful than she is in class! But overall, you really have to work hard for a good grade.
The lectures were kind of hard to follow, but the quizzes and tests weren't that bad if you looked over the notes beforehand. I absolutely raped the final just by studying her notes for a night so it's definitely a helpful class. If you put forth a decent effort you'll get at least a B.
I don't know why she got such awful reviews. She's a sweet woman who does a great job explaining through notes and reinforcing through example problems. However, I am quite strong in math so I may be biased. She's also adorable with her little asian accent. I wish she taught more classes...
I didn't think the class was that hard. She doesn't always explain things very clearly but she spends a lot of time on each subject to make sure you understand. The quizzes are easy as long as you go to class. She usually types up and prints out notes for you.
She has a difficulty actually teaching the class. Many times she would give us exercises or quizzes and expect us to do it even if we hadn't learned it. Much group work, where a paper from the group is randomly selected (social loafers rejoice). She has wonderful intentions and is very nice, but not the best professor.
She is a sweet lady, but not an effective teacher. She is very hard to understand most of the time, and does not explain things thoroughly. She expects us to do many things on our own, even when she hasn't taught it yet. We have many assignments in a book, which is completely useless. Suggest you have prior knowledge.
The class was difficult when it did not need to be. She was all over the place with her lectures, and did not really teach. I would reccomend not taking her for stats. Not a very easy class.
I don't understand all the poor reviews. She is SUCH a sweet lady, yes she may be a bit fast-paced but she mixes it up which is what I liked. The quizzes are straight from the book questions, as long as you read the book and do the extra work you should be fine. One of my favorite teachers, I really enjoyed having her as a professor.
She is a very nice person and provides notes for you. However, her tests are on material you never cover in class and are extremely difficult. Nice person, awful professor. Avoid this class at all costs!
Avoid taking this class with prof. Casiple
Not an easy professor. One of the hardest I've ever had! Her tests are nearly impossible. Try to get another professor!
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR. she does not explain material well at all. does not know what she is talking about.
Great teacher! So helpful and Stat220 is pretty easy enough by itself. She's one of those teachers that knows the materials so well that she immediately understands what you are asking. Tests are easy because with her handouts, she tells you exactly what will be on it!
Overall, I thought her class was fair, it was not impossible, but it was also not really easy. Most people did fairly well as long as they put in some time to study. The only thing about this course that really bothered me was that it was really hard to figure out my grade. Especially because the homework is worth a decent amount.
nice lady but a terrible professor, she has no idea how to keep things organized and her tests are hard, try getting another professor because i ignored the rest of the comments here and just took her and i really do regret it
As everyone has said: nice lady, awful teacher. I got B's on the midterms and I only missed one class, and I just found out that I failed my final. Will probably have to retake. Avoid her, seriously. She's not worth the stress.
NIce lady, she means well but she cannot teach. Her homework was useless, her lectures were all over the place and her tests had material on it that was not taught. I got Bs on all the tests and then somehow failed the final which is odd since the final is cumulative. If you took stats previously you may get an A... I would stay away if possible.
Prof. Casiple knows what she is talking about, but is a very fast-paced teacher. She does not pause for you to take down what is on the board, and she just goes on teaching. She is a hard grader, and wastes time in class showing random things on the internet that don't relate to our material at all.
She is an absolutely lovely lady. The class is oriented for people who are not interested in any kind of math and she perfectly understands that. She tries to explain course in very simple manner. She gives out a lot of notes, that are extremely helpful when you study for tests. She is also very responsive and attentive to her students.
AWESOME TEACHER! Explains everything really well. No need to study or prepare outside of class f you attend and take notes in class. Really easy class
She's a nice lady but she doesn't explain things very well. Gives many pointless assignments that are never talked about again. Test questions are worded completely different from all the materials she gives you to prepare for them. One midterm, one test, and cumulative final. Many online quizzes, a few in class quizzes and homework assignments.
Honestly, shes my favorite teacher ever. Everything is taught so clear and she even takes the time out of her day to give us most of the answers before the test! Everyone must take if you want the easiest A of your life!!
You're probably reading all of these thinking "oh they just hate her & are ranting, she can't be that bad" SHE IS She goes way too fast w/the material, grades harshly, none of her tests/quizzes are like the homework she gives you. She's very unclear & not helpful, she didn't recognize me when I went to office hours 3mnths in the semester. DONT TAKE
Awful. I'm a competent math student who took stats in high school and I hated her class. She was a nice woman but an awful teacher. She moved through material way too fast with little explanation and didn't show us our grades until 3 weeks before finals when it was too late to try and improve them.
Don't take her. She was not able to relate to students, and her lectures did not correspond with the material. Tests were extremely hard. She was awful about responding to emails, and was not in office hours.
Definitely don't take Casiple if you aren't a math person. She's a nice person, but has no sympathy for partial understanding and does not give partial credit for questions even if you show work. She sometimes forgets to announce online quizzes so I ended up with a few zeroes on them which she did not sympathize.
Wow! She is awful! I do not recommend taking her class. She does not know how to convey the material for the course along with the fact that she does not have a syllabus. She also requires you to read a novel for the class and complete a project that does not pertain to the material of the course at all.
Horrible teacher! avoid.. She will not help you, or explain concepts you dont understand
DO WHATEVER YOU CAN TO NOT TAKE THIS. She is very unorganized and confusing. She has an accent, which makes her lectures hard to understand. Math 220 is an easy course but she makes it dreadful. We had to read a book and do a project on for a grade, which did not help our stats skills at all. I have aced every math class before this class.
It's appalling to see such indecent professors sometimes at such a great university JMU. Casiple has extremely tough tests, and went through notes faster than any professor you'll see. Definitely take another professor if you can. Elem Stat isn't supposed to be this alarmingly hard. Also responds to e-mails right before class.
I'm surprised JMU would even allow such a horrible professor here at this reputable college. Her exams are tough, you take them pretty blind sided, also all the material in class you need to know, expect to teach it ALL to yourself. She has an attendance sheet so we're forced to show to class, even though she does absolutely NOTHING during class.
I struggled in AP Stat in high school and never once struggled with Prof Casiple.
She just reads from the notes, sometimes doesn't even lecture but instead just makes you do a fill in the blank or just answer questions for the chapter, which ends up being your notes for the chapter. She's not the best at explaining and she doesn't grade things the best.
Casiple is a nice woman but her classes are both boring and don't prepare you for the tests. The tests are ridiculously hard, especially for an elementary statistics class.
This class really isn't bad at all! I think her lectures and notes explain exactly what she's looking for on the tests and quizzes, as long as you are paying attention. She is really nice and makes class enjoyable. The quizzes are easy, the tests are pretty difficult but as long as you study, you will get a good grade in her class.
Professor Casiple's lectures are all over the place. She jumps from chapter to chapter, putting homework online for some and for others having us do the work in class with our groups. She sometimes teaches, but be prepared to do a lot of the learning on your own because she runs through the material very quickly & assumes you know it.
You literally have to teach yourself the material. She gives you a packet to fill in notes and then gives a quiz on it, and THEN teaches what we already had to learn on our own. I have a B in the class but thats because I'm taking initiative regardless of my professors uncanny teaching methods (to put it politely). DO NOT EVEN THINK ABOUT TAKING IT
She is the worst professor I have ever had to deal with. I have never struggled so hard in a class for no reason. I received 100% on each quiz and then failed the tests. Absolutely ridiculous. Avoid at all costs!!!!!
She's not bad at all I barely take notes I just fill out the worksheets she gives you and i haven't had any problems. Her quizzes are identical to the sheets se gives you. As long as you go to class and pay attention you'll be fine. The lowest test grade ive gotten was a 78. There aren't many tests though.
I love math and she made me hate it. The class was easy and quite boring. The tests were unreasonable and she is an incredibly tough grader.
Honestly, Casiple is nowhere near as bad as everybody makes her out to be on here. Her information is straight forward, but you do need to look over things outside of class. Don't buy the text book, just buy the access codes so you can do the homework, and that comes with an ebook if you really need the book for some reason. I would take her again.
Professor Casiple really isn't as bad as I thought she'd be based off previous ratings, but I can definitely see where people are coming from. If you're someone who struggles with math, you will struggle in this class. You basically have to teach yourself and she isn't helpful during office hours. I only have a B because math is my best subject.
She's a really nice person and her quizzes and homework are really easy but her tests usually don't reflect what you've learned. I spent several days studying for a test and got a 60, if you aren't a skilled math student I would not recommend.
Avoid this professor if you can! She's a nice person, but really just not a great teacher, especially if you're not a math person. I got A's on all quizzes and homework assignments, and yet managed to do terribly on the tests, which are unreasonably hard and short, and very rarely pertain to information learned in class.
The class average on the final was a 56, the high score was an 86, and she didn't curve. Had an 86 going into the final and ended up with a 75. I'm a good student and was convinced that despite the poor reviews I would do well. I was mistaken. Avoid this woman like the plague.
Easily one the worst professors I've ever had. She gives an insane amount of notes (which you think would be helpful) but then her tests rarely cover things discussed in class. You pretty much have to teach yourself. I had a B all year and ended with a C- after her final. DON'T take her!
One of the worst professors I ever had. Did good on homework and some quizzes but no one ever passed her tests! Do not take her!
She does not care if her students do well or grasp the material, and doesn't take the majority of the class failing a test as a sign. Avoid if you want to learn something or get an A, because the highest grade in our class of 40 was an A-
DO NOT TAKE CASIPLE. The material is basic and relatively easy, but she makes it impossible with her exams. I taught myself from the book and got straight A's on the online assignments, but the test she creates, you will not do well on. DROP IT.
Prof. Casiple is a sweet lady and she knows what she is talking about. She tells you exactly what is going to be on the quizzes and well prepares you for the tests by telling you what sections are not going to be on the test. She also gives handouts with the notes on them which you just fill in. I had no prior knowledge of Stats before this class.
Throughout the year your grade might be low, do not let that fool you. The final was fairly easy and they way she grades, the final will bring up a lot! Just do the easy stuff and you will pass with a good grade
EXTREMELY unclear. basically does not teach, you better hope you can teach yourself from the textbook. I failed the class and have to retake and put forth huge time and effort. Went to office hours and was not helpful. tests made me cry........
Basically your grade is connect, and two tests and a final. She is pretty clear, but I felt iffy about that class. She definitely teaches pretty good, but sometimes I was still confused. She's not tough tho.
She was not helpful. The tests were insanely hard and had nothing to do with the topics in class. Retaking this class again even though I took stat in high school. DO NOT TAKE MATH 220 WITH HER
Her tests are impossible, I did so bad in them. If you understand the concepts and have them memorized you'll prolly be fine, but I always stressed out and got confused by her tests. She told me our class had the best average of all her classes, ours was a 76... You could have in A in the class but tests will screw you since there are 2 and a final
AVOID! She does not use Canvas, so knowing your grade is a guessing game. She assigns work but does not count it towards your grade. In class you basically teach yourself.
she grades so specifically like you are supposed to know every vocabulary word like she knows.
Did not like her at all. I taught myself the entire course it was terrible. I would not recommend her to anybody. She is very unclear and confusing and she doesn't use canvas at all!
One of the worst teachers I have ever had. 105 has easy material that she taught in the most confusing way and it made the class really frustrating for someone who already hates math. You work in groups the whole semester. Nobody in my class got above a C on the midterm. The website she uses for homework is too confusing. I tell people to avoid her
She was horrible. Did not teach the class at all and when she did never explained anything. She gives really long lectures and the whole class was lost throughout the whole thing and she would not reexplain or stop. Gives tests on material not covered.
Casiple is very helpful if you ask her things.
She really has no interest in her students. She has no idea how to explain the material in an interesting way. She doesn't really know how to teach in general. If you don't use the notes you will not pass the class.
Her class is easy but she makes it harder than it has to be. She expects you to know every single vocab word in order to full credit.
Casiple is a good professor. Sometimes what she says is hard to follow but if you ask questions she is willing to help.
Easy class. Online homework. Her examples from class are the ones on the homework and quizzes and tests. Not engaging to the class in the least. Crickets chirp when she asks for the answers to in class notes/guides. Mandatory attendance. Takes forever to grade. She knows her stuff, just doesn't know how to present it in an interesting manner.
Casiple is a sweet lady, but she is a terrible communicator of her information. The class itself isn't all that hard. There's a bunch of online homework assignments but you can keep redo-ing them until you get a 100, and some online quizzes as well but both just boost your grade. Very hard grader however. Overall, wouldn't recommend taking her.
got 100% on quizzes and hw based on accuracy, but tests are a completely different level of the material she taught. Explains concepts in a manner difficult to understand and grades very harshly. I recommend you avoid her.
I've had to take stats a couple of times now. Casiple is very clear in her explanations, but you actually have to listen. The subject is dull so its boring. I would recommend her
I wouldn't take Casiple if you didn't take MATH105 first. She explains things really well but she definitely expects you to come in with some prior knowledge. She runs her lectures by giving out printed notes that she fills out with you as you go. The tests are tough but study well and you should be fine. She's 100% willing to help if you need it
Only class I failed at JMU. Definitely try to take someone else.
This class was okay. two exams and a final, a bunch of open note quizzes and online homework that is all very manageable. She is not the best at explaining things, but all the material is easy to pick up once you do practice problems.
This professor does not do a good job at explaining the information in a clear fashion and does not update her grades pretty much ever. It is finals week and the grade book is missing more than five grades, one of which was an exam. A lot of the learning is self taught outside of class.
Worst math 220 prof. i took ap stat in hs and already knew most the stuff we learned but if you dont do it her way u fail. i failed almost every test in this class. there is no chance for ec. online hw and test help your grade a lot but dont have anything to do w how she teaches in class Waits to hand back grades so i thought i had a B but end w C-
By Far the WORST TEACHER AT JAMES MADISON. Don't take her.....
This teacher is awful. If you take her be ready to basically teach yourself the whole semester. She doesn't update or dive deep into concepts that should normally be focused on. The quizzes online are very tedious and sometimes they are wrong. On multiple occasions I got the answer right but it counted as worng.
The book teaches better than this teacher. She just solves the problems at her own pace and does not stop to help other students. Her class normally consists of watching TED talks that have no tie to the lessons. She is awful at letting people know deadlines as she operates on a completely different site than canvas. You will struggle in this class
It must have been a mistake that JMU hired this professor. She literally makes it more difficult when teaching. I could teach this class better and I'm still a student. She is very picky as to the way we go about finding info and it of course has to be the hardest way to solve the equation
She does not explain the material well and her exams are different than what she has been teaching. Would not recommend her
You have to learn the material yourself. She provides note packets, but they're only slightly helpful. She gives help if you ask, but she's not very understanding and doesn't explain things very well. Be prepared to study a lot on your own in order to learn the info on exams.
I was good at math in high school and so i took her thinking I would be able to do well in her class despite the bad reviews. Don't make that mistake. This is by far the hardest class i've taken. Online quizzes are tedious and difficult. 2 exams and a cumulative final, all of which I failed. You will have to teach yourself. Avoid at all cost
She's fine, nothing special. Essentially she walks you through a few examples and then you do online problems for homework.
If I had not of taken stats before this class I would have struggled greatly in her class. She only gave a couple tests that really affect your grade and is not very clear in her lectures when teaching. She does give decent notes. I wouldn't take this class if your considering it.
I was worried about this class when I read these reviews at the beginning of the semester. However, I was pleasantly surprised by how good of a teacher Professor Casiple actually is. Yes, she assigns a lot of homework but she gives ample time to complete it and her note packets are very helpful as well as the online textbook.
Prepare to teach yourself in this class. She lectures the entire time and doesn't explain anything. Online homework is so frustrating. Tests are hard and theres no corrections. It was hard to stay awake for this class, honestly a waste of time even going because you'll just be teaching yourself later. The material itself not that hard.
She will call you out if you are wrong and has a deep accent, therefore hard to understand.
This class is not impossible. You actually have to try hard in this class, but it is not difficult material. You need to do the homework, read the textbook, understand the material on your own, and DO PRACTICE PROBLEMS!!!! If you do all that, you'll be perfectly fine! Casiple is very is difficult to reach outside of class so attendance is mandatory
Prof Casiple is nothing like the reviews on here. She is very nice and a good professor. She creates the notes so you can print online and bring to class, and posts the finished version after. There is online homework that isn't difficult. She is available outside of class. Only a couple tests. You get out what you put in!!!
Professor Casiple teaches the concepts very well and you don't have to put much work into the class. Just make sure you keep up with deadlines with the online homework. Online textbook is required for the homework, she gives you notes to fill out in class. Recommend!
I was dreading her class after reading her reviews, but she wasn't a bad teacher at all. Most quizzes were online and you were given multiple attempts to take it. She explains things in a lot of detail so you can understand it.
I really couldn't understand her teaching style, she didn't make the expectations clear within class, she is one of the only stats teachers that doesn't let you use a scientific calculator. I only took her class because it worked with my schedule and it was a huge mistake. Half my friends failed.
she is not the worst professor ive had at JMU but her class is very slow paced and its so hard to focus on what she is saying because she speaks improper enlglish (rambles) and the class has no chance to participate to better understand the material. the only assignments are homework quizzes and online math assignments due usually once a week
Her offices hours are short and she is hard to get ahold of. When I do reach her, she is nice but always seems like she is rushing me out of her office and won't answer all my questions. Big mistake taking this class online because I have to teach myself everything and go to the tutors often. Forgot to announce a test once. Midterm was tough.
She's a very very nice professor who wants to help but she is EXTREMELY boring and its difficult to understand what she is teaching. She mostly just does the math problems herself on the board but doesn't explain well what she is doing. If you're not a great math student its VERY difficult
you only have homework periodically and its all online. in class is easy because you just fill in notes as she goes along with you. there are only three tests though so have to make sure you know your stuff
not a super hard class, but I found that the in-person tests were way harder than the online stuff. even in office hours, she doesn't make much sense when I tried to ask questions. She is pretty specific with what she wants on the projects and graded them harshly. She also took my formula sheet during one of our exams for no reason
wish I would have taken in class. In person test are way harder, and SPSS projects are impossible to do well on.
This class was honestly terrible. No graphing calculator allowed, class is stop-and-go, nothing is graded clearly, nothing is explained clearly. She's helpful in her office hours, but you have to ask very pointed and direct questions. Avoid at all costs.
This class was very difficult. The in-person tests were so much harder than the online problems and examples. She graded harshly and was very specific. I would not recommend.
Just a terrible class all around. We take a ridiculous amount of nots that in the end dont even help us because her tests are all on things that she doesnt teach us. dont take this professor, waste of time and money.
Stay away from this class at all costs. 5 Online Tests, 3 In-Person Tests, Loads of Homework, 4 SPSS Projects. In-Person Tests are a lot harder than Online Tests. Trust me you do not want to deal with this!!!
This was the worst class I have ever taken. Take another Professor if possible because you will cry after every test. Her lectures are painfully boring and her tests will make you feel like an idiot. Her tests also are grammatically incorrect which makes them hard to understand.
Prepare to teach everything to yourself. The textbook is expensive. She gives out notes and tests to them/the textbook. She speaks very technically and often interjects herself, making it hard to follow and for someone not math-oriented to understand. She has very few grades besides homework and very rarely grades them. Deadlines are absolute.
While an extremely nice person that gives decent lectures, the downfall of this class is that we only have 2 tests and a final which are rated extremely high!!!!! Make sure you do well on ALL tests and study extremely hard for them!! Or else it will be extremely hard to get the grade you want in this class.
She was alright but not great with in person lectures. When we switched to online class, she could not have been more apathetic or uninvolved. She made us learn everything online and told us to ask our fellow classmates questions whenever something was hard. She also took FOREVER to grade everything. I could not in good conscience recommend her.
I had a different prof for the first half of the semester and after everything got switched to online Casiple became my teacher. Do not take her online class. The tests use Hawkes Learning and it is so complicated to use and install. The homework took me two hours every time, and I still didn't get an A for the amount of work I put in
Switched into her class online halfway through the year. Hawkes Learning System in unnecessary work. She seems nice enough and flexible with it though. Its just so much homework and the tests are kind of hard.
If there's a Math 220 professor with better ratings, take him/her. Professor Casiple is a nice person, but she doesn't teach effectively. I basically taught myself the entire semester. The homework load is extreme. I spent around 9+ hours a week on her assignments alone. After the pandemic, I basically didn't have a Statistics professor.
I got switched to Professor Casiple mid-semester. Although I have nothing against her personally, Hawkes Learning System ruined my grade. The practice tests are nothing like the actual tests and HLS stops helping you towards the end of the class. All they really do is tell you to "relook your work".
I was switched into Dr. Casiple's class mid-semester due to COVID. We used HLS, where homework assignments took me HOURS!! And yet, none of my hard work is worth it because the tests are hard and my grade went down. She's nice, but doesn't respond to e-mails well cuz she doesn't answer everything you asked. I didn't sign up for this, you shouldnt
ive honestly been blessed to have a great experience with casiple during quarantine. my original prof quit once we went online so he got replaced with her and i basically cried cuz her rep sucks. we used an online learning platform and the tests were exactly what we learned. so easy. got a 97 on the final. the tears were in fact not needed
She's a really nice and pleasant person, but just not an effective teacher. Once the semester went online, we taught ourselves everything. She wasn't accessible outside of class, and didn't provide good feedback. Really inconsistent with what she wanted from us which made things difficult.
I don't really know where to start. She isn't a bad person or anything, but when she talks she just sort of talks to herself. It's really boring. I pretty much taught myself this entire course and then during the lectures I zoned out while she doodled stuff on her virtual notepad. If you're competent enough to watch videos/google, you will pass.
If you have this professor become organized with your peers quickly. Much of her content requires self teaching. She isn't flexible as a teacher and won't move deadlines no matter the circumstance. She teaches content the day after its due as homework. May she be a lesson to those who wait to apply for classes.
She is very nice but you are going to need to teach yourself. You will pay for HLS and do practices/mini quizzes almost every night. Youll have chapter quizzes every week. In class she will not go over anything you taught yourself, she will only do word problems or talk about future lessons. Very nice, just be aware you are on your own.
This class is not as much test heavy as it is quiz heavy. Everything we learn we have to teach ourselves since she teaches lessons during lecture after they were already due on Hawkes. She is bad with emailing and her reviews are NOTHING like the test/quizzes. I do not recommend her at all as a teacher for this course.
If you love teaching yourself, then this class is for you. Otherwise, this class is difficult. She loves to do notebook quizzes that are 15% of your grade which she takes forever to even grade. Joining class just makes me more confused than ever so I have to resort to teaching myself. The test are the most difficult part and the most impactful.
do NOT take her for 220! She is very nice and means well but so so much work and impossible to do well. She has us using SPSS for projects meanwhile SPSS is not compatible with Mac computers as of right now. Also not understanding, I had to take my roommate to the hospital in the middle of a quiz and she wouldnt let me retake it!
Hated this class. She just throws the info at you and expects you to understand. The quizzes aren't too hard except she throws questions on them that weren't on the practice quizzes so you have no idea what to expect. I recommend taking a different prof.
The amount of homework assigned is wild, be prepared to spend at least a 12 hours each week on HW alone. The tests aren't terrible but there are only 3. However, she's a very sweet woman who clearly cares about statistics. I don't think she's bad at all, it's just a very time-consuming class.
Professor Casiple is one of the sweetest people I've seen here at JMU. She has a very mild personality which means that her lectures can be very boring, but they are not essential for doing well in the class. The homework can be a lot at times, but it is great at successfully teaching you the material and matches the tests exactly.
Arlene Casiple is such a sweet lady, and she would do anything to help you. I don't know if my difficulties were because she moved really fast, the fact that I suck at math, or the fact it was online. It was definitely a rough time at some points, but she is very willing to help you. She does go fast, and her accent can be heavy sometimes.
Lectures SO boring!! Info learned in lecture was barely on assessment I felt like. Used Hawkes Learning to literally teach myself the entire course. Very homework heavy, literally everyday. Barely any quizzes or tests until finals week where she assigned a quiz, 3 projects, a test, and the final! do not take her.
She made us take an online exam on Respondus+Monitor and then have our phones set up on Zoom behind us with our screen in view (i wish this was a joke). She is a heavy grader and has multiple assignments due a week. They are not listed in canvas and are due on odd days of the week (I.e days we don't have class or weekends)
The last week of classes she crammed in so many assignments that she never mentioned before. Goes way too fast during lectures and what she teaches just doesn't align up w/ assignments. Basically taught myself the whole semester. Easy to fall behind b/c quizzes and tests get locked if you don't complete assignments on time. Better teachers to take.
She crams work in the last week with no warning ahead of time. Her lectures are pointless to the homework and tests. I taught myself all semester. Avoid her class at all cost
Do you want to pass your math class? Then DON'T take this class. She is so off topic and what she teaches in class, isn't on the test. don't get me wrong, she means well and is a sweet lady... but she is the worst teacher I've ever had. You have to teach yourself. You literally don't need to go to class. good luck if you have her.
DO NOT TAKE. study guides were nothing like the test. i never went to class because she goes over things way too fast. taught myself basically. homework is worth more than the test. 3 exams with few questions but many parts.
Very caring and sweet professor. LOTS of homework grades that are very easy to get a 100% on (multiple tries, answers available.) Very few tests. Textbook is online through Cengage with the homework. Material is very easy. Can be a little hard to understand her explanations sometimes but it is easy to work out.
Ms. Casiple is a very nice lady but not the best teacher. Lectures are long and repetitive, but attendance isn't mandatory. The tests are HARD and are nothing like the homework or notes. You have to buy WebAssign to actually do the work which costs $90 in addition to the textbook that you have to buy. Wouldn't recommend.
She does care about her students, but is one of the worst math teachers I've ever had. The homeworks and reading quizzes are nothing like the tests, and some of the grading on the tests is very confusing. She overcomplicates simple things, and it can be incredibly frustrating.
Statistics is the easiest math curriculum and Dr. Casiple made it like learning rocket science. I rarely went to class (most of the material can be found/learned online). Overall, shes a really sweet person, but overcomplicates the material.
She would give us reading quizzes on information she never talked about and we had to use 20 pages of the textbook to figure out the reading quizzes. She basically talked the whole class and rarely gave us practice problems to try on our own. We got one study guide over the course of three tests, and the tests were on 6 chapters at a time.
The quizzes are easy, some homework is tedious and the test are so so hard. She is a sweet caring lady but I regret taking this class.
She’s a very kind woman and her class goes by fast. She isn’t the best at explaining math concepts though, so really you need to do your own studying. You have to do 2-4 quizzes and HW assignments a week for the textbook chapters, but she offers extensions on all of them. Not too hard, but not an easy A. She’s a very lovely person though.
She gave out lots of formula sheets to help guide you while doing homework. During class time, she often just went over examples, so it can be a little boring. Most assignments were submitted through ALEKS and were relatively easy and not time consuming. Overall, a very easy class and a responsive professor.
DO NOT TAKE HER! I can't express this enough. The homework she gives is online and relatively easy, but the exams are extremely difficult. Her lectures aren't very helpful as it's just copying down notes she writes on the board with little to no examples, so there's not much chance to learn. If you're stuck with her, prepare to teach yourself.
The homeworks are pretty easy and help your grade out a lot but the tests are nothing like what she goes over in class. Her teaching can be a little confusing but she teaches you a lot in such a short time. Not horrible but not great.
I mean if you want to just pass a class with a C take her. I hate math and the homework is literally 60% of your grade and not nearly as hard as the exams. You can literally fail the exams and pass all the homework and walk away with a passing grade.
the tests are very hard, but the homeworks(online) and chapter reading quizzes(online) are relatively easy and good grade boosters. you can absolutely tank the tests and do well on the homeworks and quizzes and end with a C. she makes the topics overly complicated and personally, confused me more when i asked questions. mostly taught myself
The only thing keeping my grade up are the online homework and quizzes that you have to take with the online textbook. Though do not be fooled, because what you learn in the textbook is not what you learn in class. She is a nice person, but she is one of those professors that know too much about the topic to teach it. The tests are really hard.
Her class was not difficult but not easy, if you attend lectures you will pass and understand the class. She tends to go off topic easily or not finish a topic and move onto the next in which you have to teach yourself or go to her office hours which aren't the most timely. She responds to what she wants email wise but she also does care if sick
FIND A GROUP AND STICK WITH THEM! Trust me it'll be easier to do the SPSS projects together than alone. The content itself isn't hard, but the exams will kill you. The exams are so freaking hard for no reason, she grades them so harshly. Easiest math class I have taken, but she doesn't know how to explain things. Find someone else for this class.
Go to office hours!!! She is really sweet and pretty good at explaining things, and one-on-one time may help you understand the content better. Her exams are relatively difficult, but not impossible. I didn't do amazing on them, but the homework points helped A LOT so be sure to do them (they also helped me understand stuff a lot better)
I had Dr. Casiple for 105 and 220 and I am terribleeee at math so I really struggled. She's not the worst, not overly kind, not rude. As long as you do all the HW, you should pass, it's majority of your grade. It's usually hard and time consuming, but she'll accept it late and you get redos. Office hours helped me.
Lots of online homework but overall an easy class. In person is repetitive. Very nice professor though.
Lots of canvas homework but if you do it you'll be ready for the tests. Attend her lectures or you'll fail her exams. She's really nice and funny but its clear that most kids take this for the gen-ed or pre-req credit and she knows it. Just participate a few times and she'll love you
You can tell that she cares about her students but I often found myself getting lost in lectures as she would sometimes go way off topic or they were just boring. The class is easy if you put in the time to understand the material but if you don't attend lectures the tests are really difficult. Not super terrible but not great either.
Professor Casiple is super kind and designs the class so that you have a really good chance at passing. Some people rarely show up and only take the tests but going to class is a lot easier than having to make up the work you missed. Homework is a huge portion of the class and helps you stay on track with all the content so you wont fall behind.
If you struggle with math I do not recommend this professor. Shes very tough and the work load is extremely heavy.
Never learned much from going to class. The homework and reading quizzes helped but the class seemed pointless at times. She's bad at explaining topics and moves on too fast. Tests are difficult, but not as bad as I originally thought. She makes it a point to tell you all the things you can do to improve your grade.
Professor Casiple really is a decent teacher. She can be hard to follow at times but she is very open to reexplaining things if necessary. Her tests can be hard if you do not study, but there are lots of homework assignments to help boost your grade.
Prof Casiple is a decent option for math 220. She can go fast on lectures, but she will answer any questions. There are reading quizzes, ALEKS hw, and group assignments that will help your grade. There are 3 test including the final. Compared to other professors, Prof Casiple is a great option!
Prof. Casiple is a nice lady who seems to care about her students. I needed to take Math 220 for my major and thought an online/hybrid class would be fine, but I would have preferred to take a fully online or fully in-person class instead. I would not recommend her as a teacher, especially if statistics is new to you. She goes VERY VERY fast.
Professor Casiple was a decent choice for Math220. She expected us to teach ourselves a lot of the course material which is almost impossible if you are not familiar with statistics prior. Her tests were extremely difficult and even the layout of the exams were challenging. Do well on the homeworks, no one in my class did well on exams.
She does not explain anything well at all. It is pointless using ALEKS because none of it is related to her tests. She is easily accessible outside of class time, but she still does not do a good job of clarifying anything and truly makes you feel dumb. The tests are extremely hard, especially test 2. DO NOT TAKE!!!!!
I think the reason her ratings are so low is because no one likes math and I agree but I did not find her class to be that difficult. Shes good at explaining why equations were used etc etc and will happily answer questions before or after class. She gives 3 hw assignments a week and quizzes are like once a month. Personally I'd take her again.
Dr. Casiple was one of the most boring lecturers I have had the privilege of taking a class with. She is confusing and often explains things in an ineffective manner. The homework is very easy and weighted heavily and she allows you to replace a test grade with the final grade, but one of the tests has far more material on it than the others.
Prof. Casiple is a great teacher. She is super understanding and willing to help you if you need it. Stats is hard, but she does a great job breaking down the concepts and taking time to explain things, as she doesn't rush through anything. Lots of homework, but it helps you learn the material faster. Highly recommend.
She wasn't too bad of a professor. I took this class after 105 which helped me understand the material. She goes in depth in each lecture for each chapter we are on, and she uses Aleks for our reading and homework assignments.
DON'T TAKE. She doesn't explain anything, and just makes you copy notes down from the board and no one can ever keep up. When you ask her questions you're most likely not getting a good answer. The tests are so hard and ALEXs is so much work. Avoid.
Expects you to know the material before each class. Doesn't explain things well at all. There are 2 exams and a cumulative final which are all 30% of your grade. If you have a question it will most likely not be answered. Honeworks are all on ALEKs but the way it and she teaches is different so it's confusing. AVOID her.
She is a very nice lady but a horrific teacher. She constantly makes mistakes and is very confusing. She assigns an absurd amount of homework that takes a stupid amount of time. Tests are hard but only around 3. I have always been solid at math but the class made me feel like my math skills regressed. AVOID HER.
Casiple is a wonderful person but her teaching methods are very difficult. Our homework consists of a crazy amount of work on ALEKS that is time consuming and barely touches your grade. You are expected to know the material when she is going over it and she moves very quick. The tests are very hard and don't really match up with her study guides.
DO NOT TAKE THIS PROFESSOR. She doesn't curve, she lets the "aleks" program teach you the material and then goes over it in class a different way (very confusing), she blows through notes, and doesn't explain very well, and the tests are very different than the practice. Tests are big in your grade. My class average on the first test was a 39/100.
This is the worst class I have ever taken in my entire life. Please do not take this class unless you want to rethink your entire life. AVOID at all costs.
If you wanna learn, run. makes ALEXS teach you in the hours long worth of homeworks, then she goes over something differnt at class and only does every other few problems. If you really want to learn everything in this class you cannot blink, you miss half the topic. good lyck she sucks cant teacher at all.
I'm taking Math 155 and currently have a C-. The ALEKS modules are a waste of time, leaving no room to study for the three major exams. The reading quizzes are time-consuming, and there's no extra credit despite attending office hours and tutoring. Also the final is cumulative. If you're not great at math, I wouldn't recommend this class.
ms casiple is very kind but also out for blood every time she teaches she zooms through notes and than the final is worth alsmot as much as alll of the tests in total I cried walking into test #2 actually
Professor Casiple is a very nice lady and actually quite funny. However, her lectures are very quick and she doesn't offer a lot of helpful feedback. I was never that good at math in high school and I found this course to be pretty challenging. She is not the worst choice in the world, but if you have the option I would recommend switching classes.
Tests are in person and closed note. she assigns a ton of work. She often assigned work Saturday afternoon/evening and made it due on Sunday night. She is very hard to reach, I think she emailed me back once the entire semester. The only way to get an answer from her is to go up to her after/before class or during office hours.
DONT TAKE HER CLASSES.
This class is very homework heavy, including reading quizzes and a lot ALEKS practices to master in just one week. The homework didn't improve my understanding nor did convos with her helped. Often work was based upon material that was not covered in class. I felt so frustrated with this class and it was so stressful. Not worth it.
Please do not put yourself through the work of this class if you do not need to. ALEKS is the stupidest thing in the world, if anything, I think I know less algebra now than I did when I started the class. You have to teach it to yourself, which meant you had to do the reading quizzes based on your own teaching skills, not hers. AWFUL class.
SO MUCH HOMEWORK but if you put an honest effort into the modules and reading quizzes, you'll do fine on the exams. She can go kind of fast during lectures which can make her difficult to follow. The way she explains things can also be confusing, but she answers question. She's not mean or particularly bad; Her teaching is just kind of meh.
This teacher was beyond impossible. On top of hours spent using ALEKS doing modules, her lectures strayed from the modules you use to teach yourself BEFORE she teaches it again to the class. There were multiple occasions where she would admit that "ALEKS teaches it this way but I like this way better". She was nice, but DO NOT take her.
Her style of teaching is very hard to follow. The class is set up so you learn at home with the textbook and then review in class. LOTS of out class work.
Dr. Casiple is a very sweet caring teacher, the class is loaded with homework and quizzes that you need to complete before class they can be very tedious. Her exams are very hard and you only have 3 the whole semester, they do not align with any lectures or anything. Although she is very sweet her class is horrible
Very sweet lady. I did not pay attention in class after the first month and eventually started teaching myself the material. Her lectures are confusing and she is not much help with questions. Weekly online quizzes and homework through the textbook.
She's a lovely lady but her class consists of her filling out the handout rather than teaching it, so you will have to teach the material yourself. There's also online homework every day that will do nothing for your grade and the 3 quizzes are very heavy and extremely difficult (also no cheat sheets and there'll be maybe one at home review sheet).
Nice professor, lot of copying down papers. Have to teach yourself the work. Explains okay, but can't answer questions if you're confused. Lays out the exam format and what need to know. Quizzes that are not in the syllabus
homework heavy
Essentially fills out handouts with us in every class. She often does not explain what we're doing, though, it's a lot of thoughtless copying and pasting on the student's part, which makes a math class extremely difficult to excel in. Tests are MUCH harder than hw and handouts. There are also frequent quizzes not listed in the syllabus.
She's really not as bad as everyone makes her seem. She is a really nice professor, a little strict on retaking if you miss an in-class quiz and it was an unexcused absence, but she drops grades at the end of the semester anyway. A fair amount of online hw, but not bad, takes maybe 15 minutes. 3 in-class tests and then the final.
Overall she is a very sweet lady however, her teaching is hard to follow. She is all over the place and what you learn in class is very different from the tests. On the tests you have to think outside of the box on top of understanding the concepts.
Lots of thoughtless note taking, you'll have to teach yourself most of the material because she doesn't really “teach”. Lots of homework as well. She does drop some grades at the end of the semester which is nice. Gave me zeros for assignments I definitely did but she doesn't discuss grades until AFTER they're finalized?! Try to avoid this class.
Prof Casiple's class relies on you doing the online textbook reading/quizzes. Her lectures in class are mostly review, and she hands out worksheets every class. She has a very helpful grade replacement system. I'd argue that she tries her best to be clear, and she's usually understanding. In-class/group worksheets DO impact your grade, be in class.
Casiple wasn't bad but the tests are difficult cause they are mainly open-ended which makes it hard to get a high score. There is a good amount of in-class work but we were put into groups which helped. She likes to tell stories which makes it fun sometimes.
I don't know why she has such bad ratings, really enjoyed her class and found she was very good at explaining things
