Grades are not properly assigned to your assignment...& I didn't get a bad grade. Hint:When picking a company to analyze the indurty pick one where you can easily obtain info or else your screwed. Otherwise, I learned alot from this class.
this guy is a Really hard marker. ur GPA will not see him coming!! Also, assignments were marked unfairly.

If you're looking to do well don't take his class. You have to devote 15+ hours a WEEK to this course, and then pray that you're damned lucky just to pull a B. Don't even look for an A cos the highest mark is a B+. You leave the course feeling less prepared for the real world than when you entered.
You obviously have to work hard in any bus800 class but he marks much easier than the rest
Clear and extremely helpful at his office hours. Make use of them and you'll be on your way to at least a B in the course
May seem tough on the outside, but the trick is, get him at his office hour! He'll tell you everything to do and actually give you examples on how to do them! Its possible to get a decent mark in his class
Not as bad as everyone says he is....seems tough at fist but he really isn't especially for this course...you have to put effort into this class regardless of the prof ;)
Just went to the first class today. He seems like a nice person and definitely a tough, strict marker (he said so himself!) He's totally hot--looks like Ethan Hawke!! too bad he's not tall enough though. :) Good luck and work harder!!
He looks rather young, somewhat like an Ethan Hawke lookalike, but just shorter. He seems pretty intelligent and the class is interesting.
Hes a good guy and really wants to help his students learn. Marks hard but, you helps you learn from your mistakes.
highly intelligent, this prof def knows what he's talking about (at times i dislike being in his lectures for the fact that i feel dumb while he's him speaking about business). why isn't he a CEO? being a project based class, its a "get it right the first time or..." grade, which isnt too helpful.
Honestly, if he didnt have a vendetta against the students, he would be great but his high expectations are just unrealistic. Seems to know his stuff but his feedback is negative, not really constructive and sort of bias. The class itself is enjoyable, just not with him.

Everything written on this site about him is true. He is an Ethan Hawke lookalike, he does know his stuff and is definitely a tough marker. Attending his class was good as he provides a lot of input and stimulates the class discussion very well. A hint to future students: do the quizzes provided in the textbook and you'll be fine on the tests.

HOT HOT HOT TEACHER... VERY HARD MARKER AND DOESNT SEEM TO WANT TO HELP THE STUDENTS DO WELL, BUT HE IS VERY SMART.
Yeah, he's really hot. He's also very intelligent. Don't be fooled though, he expects a lot and he's a very tough marker. The upside is that he makes you expect more from yourself.
A very unique professor. He supplements readings with relevant examples, his life experience and applied theory. His strong business background and genuine interest in current events lends to both his credibility and his effectiveness as a teacher. His lectures help you understand the link between the classroom and the business world.
I LOVE him! I think I may also be IN LOVE with him. Very HOT professor! He is also intelligent, charming and witty. He is actually making my last semester enjoyable. He's the total package.
The guy's not there to make friends. He uses repetitive examples and is not helpful. Classes are painful. Avoid if you can!
don't take this guy lightly. he knows everything about everything (he thinks so) and no matter what you say, you're screwed. you would enjoy it if you sat in the class just for fun. dont get fooled by his niceness in class, he will get you on the assignments. overall, this course has no value added and is just a way for ryerson to stress you out.
The course is not a hard as everyone says. Do the work and you will do fine. This prof hates excuses.
The reason why Ryerson is still not among the best Universities is because of lazy and unqualified professors like Gervais. He reads off the slides and cannot think outside the box. He uses examples repetitively only because he cannot handle change or think when it comes to being creative. He marks very hard, and is unfair!
When I registered for this class, I had high hopes of learning about strategic management but was completely disapointed with this professor. He marks very hard, expects more but gives little direction. He is unfair and practices favouritism. AVOID this professor if you want to actually learn and do well. He is very lazy & unfair!!
easy class. just take notes in class. study from your notes, slides, book = 70%. easy B. pretty sexy girls in class! woo hoo!
As long as you particpate, you get 10/10. Easy Midterm/Final. Fun class. You learn how to talk/discuss--helps you with your future/confidences.
This professor doesn't answer his emails and could care less for students. His M/C test have errors in them online and when you mention it through email he doesn't respond. Not a helpful professor but an easy B.
this class is like easy!! He's not that bad. Everything is like online.. midterm, final =) they were easy!!! Participation is need though, so try to particpate as much as possible, so you can get like a 10/10! I think i got a B+, but he gave me a A- instead ^^

GREATLY ENJOYED HIS COURSE! I'm surprised to see so many blue faces... I had him for the spring/summer 2006 term, and thought he was a lot of fun! you have to work for an "A" (I got a B), tests were a bit tough but the major project was so much fun!! Loved all the in-class examples ... and he is very easy on the eyes :)
the class is very interesting, but the quizes, miderm and final are very hard, you need to know every single detail from the book and readings. his power points are quite useful, the simulation is fun but you don't have any idea in the first quarters on who that virtual market works. by the time my team figured the game, it was over. study hard!
WANTS TO FAILS YOU.. NO MATTER WUT U DO
He's a very smart guy, he brings to class current market trends and makes the class keep up with the news. With that said, he does test you on every little detail. There are pop quizzes, the questions are tricky. Class average was a C+. You have to earn your mark and study his slides and read the text. Simulation game = waste of $$$.
Ew, he is so NOT easy on the eyes.
1) BlackBoard is to facilitate the ease of communication. M/C quizzes and tests should be dropped off, scanned, and uploaded into BB in a few days at most. Why make us wait? 2) If the exam starts at 12:00pm, its rude to keep us waiting until 12:30pm. 3) You are a good prof, but need to manage your service level in more detail.
A very hard marker but as long as you do the work (he does acknowledge those who do) he will be very fair in giving out marks.
Nice professor, puts a lot of effort into his lectures to stay current and relevant while making things interesting. Makes class enjoyable by making it relatable. Tests are somewhat difficult as it is hard to determine what to focus on from an informal lecture and questions are ambiguous. Overall smart prof and good class is.
He is hard but he is much better than other BUS800 insturctors. If you show your work he would give you marks.
Final exam average was a 36%, and guess what? This prof doesn't even bell-curve or adjust the mark. Final class average overall is 56% and there is no adjustment. Save yourself the trouble and DON'T take this course with this prof (I'm an A+ student, BTW, so I know a hard teacher when I have one). Too much information to memorize. Impossible.
This guy is a real piece of work. He makes you buy a $70 licence to play an online game which, depending on how your team does, can wind up getting you a D- or and A+ which goes 30% towards your grade. Picture getting paired with a group of morons.. say goodbye to 30% of your grade. He is a total scammer, and you should NOT take this course.
I didn't like this prof. His "online game" is kind of a scamming agreement that he's obviously worked out with the company - he more than likely makes a profit off of it, and with 400 kids to a class, $65 a pop goes a long way.. and of course it is mandantory. Also, he isn't hot at all. In fact, he's actually kind of homosexual.
Good prof and down to earth. knows what he's talking about. great class discussions. fair but easy market
Ecellent prof if you are interested in actually learning something. May not be the easiest but you will get something out of it.
Excellent Professor! Classes are very interesting
Great Course!!! I would recommend it if you actully want to learn anything at Ryerson, in the Mareketing Major. I found all other marketing courses at Ryerson weak, some were a joke. But this one was very good. He teaches it very well and he is very reasonable with marks if he sees you are giving the course 100%.
This class is an absolutely waste of time. There is so much work, and the teacher makes you MEMORIZE 20 finance formulas which are sooo irrelevant. So much work and he doesn't help with explaining with to do. Don't take it.
he teaches mkt 723 way better than mkt 200. uses his own experience to explain concepts, which is very helpful. i would've certainly advise totake his service marketing class.
You have to earn your mark with Armand... this is NOT an easy course. He adds lots of supplemental readings and you have to really study the textbook as well. Way too much extra reading that he tests you on, but overall good course and good prof.
Read the supplemental readings, they are on exams, as well as the appendices/case studies/stories from the textbook. Final was harder than the midterm, and it also included finace questions (CAGR) and calculating GDP. I took course online and it was ok, he was very responsive to all postings and gave a lot of feedback.
Good prof...young and knows a lot. Stay up to date with the lectures and you'll be fine
He's kind of arrogant but he teaches the course well. The quizzes/midterm/final are medium to fair in terms of difficulty but he gives you about one minute per question and sometimes it takes that long just to read the questions. I'm also not a fan of the page restrictions he has on the two assignments.
Armand is not a easy prof, but he's not hard either. The key to getting the most out of his class (and an A) is showing an interest in the subject. He is willing to help, you just have to show initiative during class and office hours. His lectures are also up-to-date and relevant.
Easiest course ever! Read the book and make sure you know the definitions. If you're taking the class online, make sure you participate on the discussion board, and stay on top of the little simulation game that you have to do. Other than, the final assignment is easssyy. The midterm is EASSYYYY and its online. And the final is a joke. Armand rocks
Great Teacher, fruity in his discussion but definitely knows his stuff. The problem with this course is the reading, If you don't have time to read the textbook and memorize the millions of definitions your going to have a real problem with this course. By the eight week we were at Chapter 20, and we didn't skip any chapters. Big Load
Projects are the best bets. Midterms are Ridiculously HARD!!!
Very moody. comes across as cocky and gives hard exams. likes to show off his MBA and expects the same effort from students. course has lots of material to cover so be prepared.
Very hard marker. And you'll be fed up with his attitude in no time. He likes to put you down and make you look stupid whenever people ask him questions. Also, there are tones of materials to cover. Be ready to read the whole book, 800 pages of powerpoint, 20+ videos, 60+ Course Materials and Course Documents.
This guy should not be teaching in Ryerson. Never respond to emails. The workload is insance! He will constantly made you watch videos over an hour long. Over 70 supplimentary reading which you will be quiz/tested on. And it is not uncommon to have 3 things due in a week. Unless you have to take this, AVOID!!!!!
heffa down heffa down
Horrible Teacher. Tries to confuse students in order to make himself feel better about his complete incompetency. His answer every time he is asked for help, "Its hard! Thats all i can say!"- and the material is simple. At the end of this course there is a standardized MAmetrics exam-he made up his own test and didn't use the standard. DO NOT TAKE!
Garvis is an extremely hard marker. No textbook use, so very difficult to keep track of material to be learned. He`s not helpful in answering question. Overall not a great professor.
Overall good prof. Go see him in his office for assignment help! Tests were alright because he will give you feedback on quizzes. Assignment marks were always low(probably because of the TA).
Awful, worst prof I ever had, do not take any course with him.
Nice prof but a little condescending and sarcastic. He keeps high expectations of his class and the material tended to be all over the place in terms of different readings (textbook, articles, and excel files). The final exam is entirely on finance which you almost have to teach yourself. He does help, but more is required for such dense material.
Worst.Teacher.Ever!
The way this course is broken down makes this prof and the course itself relevantly easy.. The workload is pretty heavy and tests are only 40% from the online text involving mostly logic.. honestly metrics were the only downside of the course involving finance related formulas.. If you keep up with the work you should be able to score a B minimum..
this is the first marketing class i received a "D" in my entire 4 years at ryerson. Midterms are 10+ chapters and the finals 15+ chapters. All his projects are math oriented. He's very sterotypical and is very moody. Easily the worst marketing professor at Ryerson. My entire class didn't do well. His instructions too.
Not a good professor at all can not teach concepts.
Unreasonable on all levels. Avoid at all costs.
A man who is confused about basic business priciples (ie thinks synergy is the same thing as efficiency), who painfully attempts to describe these principles and also introduces his own untested ideas into the course. He offers no help to students trying to understand his concepts and then actively tries to trick students on exams. Serious Loser.
Doesnt' seem genuinely interested in helping students. Wants students to learn independently; but why come to class at all if we can learn at home? Provides lots of examples during lectures though that keeps the class interesting.
First class I thought this prof would be great, he told us of his pet dog "Lil' Bitch" and mozza sticks. By the end of term I really disliked this guy, he was a very poor teacher, didn't explain himself or the course well and his reply to any questions was a rude retort about Excel. I would avoid if at all possible.
Seemed great at first, lectures were interesting. Once we got to the lab part of the class, he rushed thru everything and got frustrated when students didn't understand. He left lab an hour early every week, even when we didn't understand the concepts he was teaching. Very saucy and not very helpful.
Do Not Take! Exams are ridiculous... AVOID AT ALL COSTS
The WORST teacher I have ever had!!! Horrible at teaching. There was no book to learn from and his slides consisted nothing but random pictures that did not relate. His labs were ridiculous. He refuses to help students at all times, does not answer e-mails and just overall should not be teaching. Bitter man! DO NOT TAKE HIM!!!!!!
This is a bird class for those who are not majoring in marketing. All you have to know is add and subtract using excel and you are guaranteed a B
He is a really good lecturer but that's about it. You kind of have to help yourself he tries to trick you on tests. if you can avoid taking him please do especially if mkt is your major. I ended with a B but could have gotten much better with another prof.
Brutal.... all over the place, too much useless coursework due weekly!
I took this course online and the amount of work is ridiculously high in comparison to what each part is worth. He does not assist at all when you ask questions and didn't even show up for the final exam. He made a lot of errors on his outline VS online communications and it made things even harder to follow. A complete disappointment.
A lot of work but fair. Was skeptical at first while reading reviews, but after having him for an upper course, I realized people are just lazy. His course does take some effort put into it but it's at a University level and not so ridiculous. Funny and helpful as long as you try, very willing to help those that put the effort into it.
had him for marketing 100 and 300, he gives out bonus marks for filling out surveys. hard marker when it comes to projects and don't bother emailing him though, the majority of the time he'll just respond with "it's in the course outline" or something stupid like that.
This professor is absolutely useless. Have him for MKT300 and am most likely going to fail the class. He tries to manage 2 classes in 1 hour and teaches neither. Doesn't explain concepts and is present in the classroom for about 15 minutes maximum. Change your prof if you have him!!!
Meh! If i could give a better descriptor i would. He's not great, not horrible. You don't need to even see his face if you don't want to, the course isn't hard.
Boo! I didn't need his help in the labs, they were not related to the lectures. Not to mention I never showed up and still pulled off an A.
Why is he so disliked? Honestly, his MKT300 metrics labs are incredibly easy. The 2 lab tests are almost exactly made up of various questions from the weekly lab homework. He gives fair lab tests and even bell curves them. He does seem like he may have an attitude though, but it's minor. He is quite easy and honestly, those who find him hard, why?
Not a good professor. Does not teach. If you can teach yourself you are golden
Doesn't really teach. His lectures seem rushed and are usually 15 min. long. Didn't give enough time for the two tests. I did find it funny how he would let everyone come in and sit down before telling us we had to wait outside so he could get the room ready for the test lol.
Took this class online. This is the worst class I have ever taken in my 4 years at Ryerson. This is suppose to be an easy class, but this class is horribly organized. I am absolutely disgusted with the it was set up and prof was not helpful at all.Nothing is explained. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS ONLINE. DO NOT TAKE THIS PROF.
Very interesting lectures, but the tests are difficult (need to memorize 18 chapters), the group project was a nightmare and he's incredibly unhelpful and vague when you ask him a question. Do not take if you want a good mark.
Before anything, let me tell you, I am a Dean's list student so I do not normally come on this site to complain. Armand Gervais is rude, uninterested and uninteresting as a professor.I just had him for this course in the summer semester via online and he did nothing in his power to make the course any more than "here's the text, read it" AVOID HIM
He is a nice guy, and he knows the industry but he is not always prepared re. his slides and would benefit from using current events and media to keep the course interesting like H. Moore. Make sure to be in class during the Metrics!! not everything is on the slides for this and there are tricks. Midterm was easy but Final was hard. Study!
If you have the misfortune of being placed in Armand Gervais' class - for the sake of your sanity, SWITCH. Had to re-teach myself all his lectures, questions on quizzes about material NOT covered, rude, and doesn't know how to explain his OWN lecture slides. Overall WORST class of my university career.
Terrible prof. He won't help you during lab and he is always off topic during lectures. He tries to trick you on the midterm and exam. He will not properly explain the math. Basically had to teach myself everything. His slides are completely pointless they are 80% pictures. If you have him, SWITCH!
I actually did well in his course. His lectures are pretty interesting too. I found the metrics part of the midterm was harder than the exam metrics but for the theory part of the exam he uses a lot of questions from the articles he posts and off his slideshows so make sure to read those thoroughly! He's not easy to persuade. Overall not a bad prof
He lectures well and keeps things interesting, however, none of that reflects back to his tests and exams. He doesn't use the textbook, and there is literally no way of knowing what is going to be covered besides what's on the slides (which isn't much). Writing one of his exams is like shooting in the dark, you might hit, or you might miss.
There is a lot that you will need to study from the textbook. Try to find the textbook's powerpoints online posted by other profs. Midterm, exams, & quizzes are multiple choice. I found them to be fair. But be careful of what group you join. Get into groups as soon as possible! The course wasn't bad as expected from the previous comments.
The final project was pretty hard and lengthy, so good luck.
His lectures are really interesting so I actually managed to pay attention through the lectures. The metrics are fairly straight forward so those are easy marks to get. But even after doing all the metrics and attending all his lectures I found myself with a bad mark. I guess if you study hard he's a really good prof to have.
Armand is a great professor and esp for anyone who's interested in majoring in Mkt, he's a perfect choice. In my opinion, metrics was the easiest part of this course & Armand made it seem so (Ppl who enjoy math that is). Go to all his lectures that include his metric worksheets b/c he gives BONUS participation marks (10% of your mark)
He's very friendly in classes and has an amazing personality. He get the class involved in a positive and non-awkawrd way, which makes the class a lot more interesting.
Professor Gervais was really great at involving the class during his lectures. He relates a lot of the material to real life situations. Make sure to know your metrics and theory (from slides and related articles) in order to pass. The course itself was harder than I expected but if you do the practice quizzes it helps a lot.
This course was much harder than expected but still pulled off a good mark. Class was completely useless, all you gotta do is practice the metrics and read his slides.
I've had Armand for a few online MKT courses. He is the best prof I've ever had in terms of managing an online course. He comments on every student's discussion board postings and answers questions. He is a tough marker and the final group project is long. Final was all mc from textbook so readings are important.
Armand is one of the worst Business professors I have had in my three years as a student at Ryerson. As an accounting student, I know what it takes to do well in a tough class, however, Armand made our class near impossible. The group project was very unclear and took ALOT of time, and I mean ALOT (like having a part time job). AVOID THIS PROFESSOR
Understanding, great professor!
Prof Gervais' lectures are great. He is concise and articulate about every topic. He always provides good examples. But beware, his midterm and final exam are pretty tough. He also marks the group project pretty hard.
Armand is one of the worst Business professors. His midterms and final exam are extremely tough. Class was completely useless as he doesn't teach any of the metrics.
Does not teach well. Slide are useless and going to his lecture mean listening him talk for 2 hours.
Worst prof ever!! He doesn't teach the metrics part and ironically its the most important part of the course. His power points are full of useless pictures and company logos. His exams are really tough and there are no reviews for the content part, metrics practice exam is useless . He tries to trick you on the exams !!! Test book is useless
It's an easy course, but exams are really long. For final be prepared to read 14 pages in under two hours.
This class was harder than expected and I would only recommend it if you are good at math. Metrics quizzes (weekly) are totally different than test metrics but if you use common sense you can figure it out. Don't get the textbook, completely useless. Attend lectures and you'll be good with the content. Start the group project early, takes forever.
Bright guy, but loves to hear himself speak. He cut the semester short by a week and gears exams for students to get a C. You will work your tail off for an A. You HAVE to go to class for CMKT300 because much of what he talks about is on the exams, which are tough. Would not recommend.
This professor did bring some personal experience to lectures, however I walked out of this class learning things on my own. There was not much use for attending classes and the textbook only covered 60% of the course, the other 40% was tested on things students were not aware of. For example he would go out an article for 5 minutes then test us.
He's terrible. Just terrible. If he's the only prof teaching this class, wait another semester.
Engaging lectures
Easy material but dont take it with Armand. I ended up with a D when I attended every class. Students who didn't attend ended up with a C. The assigned textbook is a struggle to read. I wasted my time trying to read it when the questions on the midterm where from the slides/articles/matrics. The midterm and exam are long, and final paper is useless
sassy and fierce (if you have him you'll know what i mean). Cool guy, his slides suck though. Knowledgeable about the material. Doesn't answer emails. Overall decent prof, you got to like the material to some extent to do well in this class.
the slides are confusing, hes not there for you, and the final exams are hard.
Prof Gervais is really rude and unclear with all motives. He tries his best to engage but fails miserably. Do the weekly quizzes and youll find the metrics portion of midterm/exam easy to do. The content questions are out of left field and he gives no explanation for them. He doesn't reply to emails. I would avoid this prof for this course.
Talk about not caring about the students! What a joke of an educator... Did well in his course, but not thanks to him. His final exam doesn't even cover the material he gave us to study. I did well on the exam thanks to the fact that I was good at solving the problems on my own without using class taught methods.... Since those methods don't help..
Prof Gervais breaks this class into 2 segments. Lecture and Lab. Study the concepts, pay attention and read the articles - they are on his exams. He provides lab time to finish the homework and he is there the entire time to help. He's very organized and comes prepared - expects you to do the same. Put time into the group proj and you will do well.
Took online - he aims for a C average. At least submit the weekly quizzes so you can get the feedback from them. The final exam is extremely time sensitive. Lets you bring in an Excel file for it - which is helpful if you add the right items. Copy down the questions/ answers from the midterm - it will save your life as there are many identical Qs.
Clearly does not care for his students and has so much attitude. The homework portion is very easy, however, his exams are very dense. Honestly, made me want to switch majors after taking this class.
Terrible, expect to teach yourself the whole course, all he talks about in class are fun examples of ad campaigns and spends about 2 mins each week on the math portion which is the portion that is most difficult to learn. Taught myself the whole course. & This isnt from someone who is bitter as I got a 90 on the midterm from working my behind off.
Never heard of a professor completely ignoring student emails in which students ask him questions. Absolutely ridiculous, Ryerson needs to have some way of monitoring professors, Also insists he will not answer emails after 12pm on friday until monday morning but turns out he just never answers them at all! Made me want to switch universities.
Awful prof. Not at all helpful, almost rude demeanor. Makes makeup exams absolutely ridiculous, and none of his powerpoints are of any use. He drones on during his lectures and never gives a straight answer to a question. Don't take the class with him.
Worst Professor ever! He is so rude. Doesn't do what he says he is going to do. If you attend his class, nothing he says is going to be on the exam. He only talks about himself and his personal stories. If you want to pass be prepared to learn the whole course yourself.
He's rude, and doesn't teach much of the course material. If he's the only one teaching the course, consider waiting a term to take it with another prof.
this prof made an entire powerpoint slide about how many coffee machines he owns yet he won't teach any of the metrics
his ppts are vague and you won't understand them even though you go to class. Midterms and finals are fair if you practice all the online metric questions.
Armand Gervais is an interesting professor. While he can be an interesting lecturer at times, he is often talking about content that is completely unapplicable to the course. I reccommend you guys avoid taking him. Gervais is also unwilling to make compromise or go out of his way to help students (example: does not reply your emails).
not a good person, nor a good prof.
Tough teacher, but fair. Focus on the metrics as they are worth 60% of exams, and understand the main powerpoint ideas. The assigned articles also have a few questions on the exams. If you work hard and do all the assignments you should be able to get a B but theres a lot of self teaching
Mean professor. Content irrelevant. Expects you to read articles, textbook, 80 page powerpoint slides, complete quizzes and modules. Not enough time for midterm or final. Did well in the course but failed because you have to pass the final to pass and I didn't have nearly enough time to finish the final. Does not care about any student whatsoever.
Expect this prof to always seem angry and rude in person. He also sounds this way in e-mails. Make sure to do the metric quizzes every week because many of the midterm and final exam's questions are similar to them. This entire course was a whole lot of self teaching so if you are not comfortable with that, I would avoid taking it with this prof.
Armand is a good lecturer, hes very engaging and makes the class interesting. But he does not care about his students at all and makes his midterms pretty difficult. The textbook for this class is useless and you have to self teach the metrics. His slides are mainly pictures and hes theory comes from random readings he posts.
Really won't see a difference showing up to the lectures versus not; I'm pretty sure the people who don't show up do better. Very dense, blunt and dry lectures. Need to learn all the metrics (math component) on your own. Not very accessible, inside or outside of the classroom. If you do get a chance to speak with him one on one, he won't care.
I think this course is designed for students to do most of the learning on their own, as I've taken the course with Martin before dropping it. He's definitely better at explaining the metrics and theory (the students just have to practice on their own time to get better). He did provide extra practice questions and answers on excel as Martin didn't
Course expectations were straightforward; content, not so much. Materials range from lecture slides to using Google (no sarcasm) to source formulas for metrics. Expect to teach yourself everything and on your own to pass the final exam - which you need to pass the course. I did well in this course without him. This should tell you everything.
He simply doesn't care about his students
I have never taken a course online before - and now I never want to again. Literally would learn off powerpoint slides, modules, youtube videos, and googling everything. He does not give any info about what will be on the midterm and final. The simulation was hard to pick up on at first. Exams were all multiple choice, and there were weekly metrics
Emailed him a few times about metric practice Q&As he made mistakes on and he kept backing up faulty math. Theory and metrics should've been WAY easier to comprehend, but the organization of this course was atrocious. He would test us on content from PPT to YouTube videos (some not even up anymore) to modules to company reports... CONTINUED^
Asked for specifics of Avis Co. but provided us with a 150 page report & no notes of what to focus on. The final was horrible if you didn't have the entire course in your excel file. Did well because my group was #1 in simulation & spent weeks making excel file. Would've failed the midterm if it weren't for the metrics, which you learn yourself.
I had little need for interaction and the course requirements were clear for the most part. My only complaints are not about Professor Gervais, but rather about the way online courses are run.I prefer actual real-life classrooms. Also, in my group project I ended up doing it all myself, which seems to happen w/ online classes.
Doesn't care about his students, not helpful in the slightest, and the hardest exam I have ever taken. DO NOT TAKE ONLINE COURSES WITH HIM. Do not recommend going through his course, in order to pass you need to pass his exam which is again so terrible.
Basically useless. Everyone stopped attending his lectures after the second class because it was a waste of time as he doesn't even get through his slides. you can tell he doesnt want to be there and doesn't offer any help on the group project, in which nobody will get 100. Exam was very difficult to do in the time frame unless you knew it all.
Anyone can grade really well, but you have to do the work. 1. Master the metrics calculations because the exam qs are harder than whats in the modules, pp decks, and quizzes. 2. Create an exhaustively comprehensive Excel file (include content) for the final exam! 3. Win the Simulation ( group project). Read the Help File.
He doesn't teach anything at all in class. He'll put up a 50 slide PowerPoint, and spend 75% of the class on one slide while he goes off topic about his life stories. Once the class is done, he'll probably only have covered 10% of the content. He doesn't reply to e-mails, and doesn't explain concepts well even if you ask him for extra help.
DO NOT TAKE CMKT 723. As it is, it's tough to take online courses but atleast profs make the effort to explain their expectations and guidelines in the online classroom. The final is 50% of the grade, and his marking on the group case was UNREASONABLE. As a 4th year business student, I've never been more furious on the lack of communication. Thanks
Honestly just switch profs if you get him. Awful prof that doesn't care if you pass or fail his course. He isn't helpful, and will give you attitude at all times. Narcissist too, guy spends the whole lecture talking about himself. Makes an 8 am even more unbearable.
Solid prof. He knows his stuff and teaches effectively. The only thing is, he can come off a little harsh and cocky but that's just the way he talks. Would take again.
Had this prof for MKT 100. Not a very nice person. All he does is pick out one or two concepts from the chapter to explain. Do not ask him any questions either, as he is a very rude person and will make you feel stupid. Should definitely learn some social skills.
Worst prof ever. He doesnt answer emails and is very rude and condescending. I dont understand how hes a teacher considering how disrespectful he is to students. If you get him as a prof, switch out.. definitely not worth it.
My biggest regret of uni so far is not switching out of his class. Metrics are everything and he doent teach them, and feeds you bad formulas on d2l. Wont respond to emails, mean spirited towards students. Lecs irrelevant, should have skipped and taught myself metrics. There is not enough space to say everything wrong with his course. Dont do it
Does not appreciate the work you actually put in. Received a 20% on a group assignment with the duration of 12 weeks. Unfair marking. Tests were fairly straight forward as long as you do the weekly quiz.
Pretty tough class overall, but fairly marked. Prepare to work for it, there's a lot to do. Every week, you will have a module, a textbook chapter, a powerpoint, a quiz, and a group assignment decision to do. All of them are critical. I was a bit upset at the midterm and final exam, there was a lot of theory material that was not covered anywhere.
The final came out of no where and had questions from random articles, even if you get 1st place in the group simulation the highest grade you can get is a 95. The only hope of passing is subscribing to coursehero for the semester since it will have all the quiz and midterm answers. Also he doesn't answer emails and you teach everything to yourself
Just no.
I was afraid of this class at first because of all the negative reviews but he is actually understanding. He took the initiative to change the mark distribution for the assessments to make it more favourable for students. I'm just worried about the stimulation, we worked really hard and improved a lot but we're still kinda last. Hoping for a 70!
Armand was a decent prof, mid term was hard but the final exam was a joke. pretty easy class.
Honestly with this professor it's a self-teaching class. Get a good group and win the simulation or at least top 3! put in some work, read the guidelines every week and you can do well. If u are looking to take mkt online & get it over with it is possible to get a good grade without his help, just understand the metrics & put in the work
asked for help and his response was I cant tell you, go figure it out yourself. He did not care about his students as well as he is condescending and rude. 100% do not recommend taking him if you hope to learn anything from his class. He once spent half a class talking only about his coffee addiction.
He barely teaches the theory portion and there's no textbook for the theory (there's a textbook only for the math/metrics portion) so on the theory portion of the quizzes, I simply guess 70% of the time. This guy also does not answer questions and he's rude. I wish I had more characters left to explain why I dislike this guy so much lol
so far the worst prof I've had
Horrible teacher, by far the worst one I had. Gives zero sh*ts about your grade. For the simulation group project, took it into his own hands to place me into a group with only 1 other partner, even though it's a 4/5 person assignment. I had to drop the course because of A GROUP PROJECT. End of the discussion, pray you don't ever get this teacher.
I had this course online obviously, and he just went through his slides during the lectures. He does give some real life advice which is nice, but he doesnt really teach us the metrics. For tests were basically on our own as he just tells us to review stuff and thats it. Theres also a group project worth 30% and he doesnt really assist at all
Didn't seem to care about the class, just showed up because he had to. The marking for the group simulation was unreasonable. Doesn't cover the theory portion of the class well at all, making the quizzes and exams a guessing game.
The worst professor I think I ever had! Throughout the whole course, he tested us on things he DIDNT TEACH. when asked about it, his response was "you should know the answers". someone make that make sense!!! he also refused to answer questions about an assignment that was worth 30% of our mark. he doesnt care about his students.
knowledgable person and gives great advice, and gives us workbooks to help with metrics but he does not teach theory at all. Had to guess most of the theory q's on quizzes and exams bc they came outta nowhere. does not answer questions saying "we should already know the answer". Choose a group WISELY for the simulation, its worth 30%.
Clear instructions, and provides helpful videos to go over the week's assignments.
Horrible prof. Don't waste your time taking him. Teaches harder and tests harder than all the MKT 300 profs. Dumb marking scheme with the final weighted the same as the simulation. Was at a 4.0 (including the final) but the simulation dropped me to a 3.33. P.S. Don't have useless group members. He doesn't help outside of class as well. BAD PROF
Oh No oh No Oh No No No No No No Oh No oh No Oh No No No No No No Oh No oh No Oh No No No No No No
Overall easy class but a tough grader and doesn't care about his students.
literally the worst prof. the pinned rating is so obviously him trying to increase his ratings. i wouldn't believe any rating on here above a 2. does not care about his students, does not care to answer questions, and tests you on things he does not teach. his lectures are pointless and the simulation is graded UNREASONABLY. do not take this prof.
Group project was worth 30% of your grade and he refused to give any help for the hard assignment and it your group does bad, you can get a zero !! Would not take again.
Armand doesnt really take the time to explain concepts and flys through his lectures. The midterm and final were relatively difficult as majority of the theory questions were from supplemental reading not from the slides. The group project was simple and easy if you put the time in.
Doesn't teach just read the text book. Mostly revisions of CMKT 100. Tests have multiple errors with no revisions. Waste of money
He can come off as harsh and a bit cocky but overall just make sure you are up to date on everything being taught and revise before class. That way youll be able to get more bang out of your buck
One of the worst profs i have had. threatens to lower marks on projects if you ask for clarification on grade, will not let you email him/respond to emails you send, and if he does its a one sentence, rude response. thinks he is better than students in every way. will yell at you in class if you ask a question, bc its taking time away from other
I won't lie, he seems kinda rude, but for real I literally only went to one lecture and never went again and still got an 80 in the course, so just read the textbook and take the quizzes and you'll be fine. The group assignment is absurdly easy. It was made a bit more difficult because of quarantine but post covid you should be fine.
WORST prof at Ryerson. I got a 59% in his class and asked him if he could boost me to a 60% he replied "NO." He is a very hard marker. To be honest he did not like my group and I becuase for the group assignment he took away many marks for things we did hand in. Avoid him at all cost. Also this course is easy if you have other teacher. Run from him
Worst prof I've ever had. If you are not a fan of reading clutter slides and listening to unpleasant, monotoned voices, run away as fast as you can. I'm okay with self-learning if the prof is incompetent, but even his materials are all over the place and lacking. As a summer course instructor, he had only one job, and he even fails at it. Bummer.
The worst prof I ever had- I love marketing but he made me hate it. During the course, he tested us on things he DIDNT TEACH. He copies all his quizzes and they don't match his slides or the textbook- when you ask him about it he will make it your fault. You can tell he does not care about learning and only his paycheck. Avoid classes with him!
One of the worst profs ever. He is rude and condescending. DO NOT TAKE HIM I REPEAT DO NOT TAKE HIM!!!
Honestly his tests and mid terms was super easy. metrics videos explain the math portion very well, but hes lectures on content dont. His powerpoints dont contain any of the content tested on the exam. grading scheme for group project is insane, two groups get 50% or 0 under 5th. if ur group places low make sure exams are 90s or youll lose ur A.
This professor is actually a perfect example of what is wrong with education. He is rude, judgemental, egotistical, snarky, and misogynistic. He has zero empathy or compassion for students and he approaches learning in a one size fits all way. Many people have complained to the school about him, I don’t know how he’s still there.
i see a lot of bad reviews for armand but hes really not bad at all. hes pretty funny, his lectures are entertaining and he talks clearly. hes also pretty accessible outside of class. he keeps you organizaed and on top of your work by giving to do lists every week. midterm and final are not the hardest either
Do not recommend taking a class with this prof, I had a bad experience he isn't understanding at all. RUN I REPEAT RUN.
RUN. do NOTTT take a class with him or you will regret it. not understanding at all, barely answering emails, and just overall horrible. if you could take a class with another prof, do it.
Horrible. When it says run. ACTUALLY RUN. He is a horrible teacher/ Doesn't teach the class, only talks about himself. Exams and midterms are extremely hard. Try to avoid him at all cost
Teaching-wise, Armand is not that bad. His lectures are not that long, and are pretty engaging. He's not just reading off slides- so in that sense he's fine. But Armand... oh Armand. He's quite a tough dude. He is very strict, and his exams are not at all easy. Be prepared to work your butt off if you have Armand as your prof.
Make sure you know how to do all the metrics! Midterm and final are all 50/50 in terms of theory and metrics. Also, pay attention in the lectures! He'll go over some real-life examples of company's, which can appear on the midterm and final. Also, pick a simulation group that actually does the work. The simulation is 30% of your grade.
The only professor Ive ever heard of to fail many students with a 0 on a big assignment, even when showing up, doing the work, and trying your hardest. Does not teach you everything you need to know and will not set you up for success. Extremely unaccommodating and uncompassionate even under extreme circumstance.
Not the best online, but significantly better in person. Inciteful with plenty of real world experience and has interesting lectures.
He does not care about his students and makes it very apparent that he is not afraid to fail you. Students should go to his class excited to learn, but all we do is go in fear. His class midterm average was a 54!!! How is that possible when the other class were getting 80s and 90s. RUN.
Not happy with this prof, ace the test and exam but failed to stay long enough on the website he required, paid extra and didn't get my credit. Very horrible response on email and bossing students.
At the beginning of the semester I thought he was fine but I was clearly wrong when midterms came around when the class avg was a 54% with no bell curve. The second midterm was very similar adding up to 50% of the course mark. His course is very confusing as you have, textbooks, lectures, prerecorded lectures, metrics that are all unrelated. RUN!
He truly needs to grasp what it means to be a professor because he clearly did not do his job correctly. None of his exams were based on the notes he gave. I t to advise you to avoid him and change professors if he is teaching a course. Overall, he is incredibly egotistical, unpleasant, and lacks so much as a lecturer that he does not deserve it.
He does not clarify anything about the course material and is a difficult grader on purpose when he does not explain or assist. He purposefully raises the exam average, which is unfair because it jeopardizes your entire grade and past grades. He increased the exam from 30% to 40%, which was absurd.
AVOID taking his classes. He had a challenging policy where passing the in-person final was mandatory to pass the course. However, there was insufficient time to complete the metric questions, and the content questions were confusing. To prepare for the metrics, focus on studying the weekly quizzes. For the content, review your notes from MKT100.
RUN!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I can tell he is an expert in marketing field, but doesn't mean he is a good professor as he is so arrogant and the way he talks makes me feel very uncomfortable. His class becomes my biggest stress for the semester and I would never recommend or take any of his class again. AVOID HIM
Does he have experience? Meh. I didn't drop, but I'm expecting to fail, due to the weird midterm and final. The paid-for 30% simulation being part of the mark SUCKS. I hate the group aspect and the way that it's marked (if you don't place, it's a 0). Material's all over the place! Sometimes, a prof is just there for a paycheque. Good luck avoiding.
to put it briefly, he's an amazing person and lecturer.....however, the way he organizes his course, and how his tests are formatted are quite unfair and all over the place.
Course is all over the place. Midterm and final questions are random. Simulation is worth a lot and is possible to get a zero on even if you put a lot of work into it. Avoid if possible.
He is an egotistic person and deliberately made the exam more complicated and tricky. He seems like enjoying having low average on his class and please please avoid him and take other profs the other semesters if you can.
The worst professor I've ever had the displeasure of being taught by. Tests are lazily thrown together. He couldn't even book a final exam date! (Exam done 2nd last week of class not the last week?) No real effort shown throughout the semester along with a terrible attitude towards his students. Only there for his paycheck. AVOID AT ALL COSTS.
AWFUL... I have no more words to say for this person but avoid at all costs please.
how did bro keep his job? Mans been here for 20 years being disrespectful to students and failing them based off a group project that you can't even pass with. Yea the project can fail u not pass you. You still need the midterms to pass ontop of the project. This isn't mentioning the lectures. If I mentioned that, this review would be taken down.
Armand will spend almost 2 hours talking about HIS real life examples and not speak or show anything that will be tested on. Tenure, oh tenure. How much I hate it. If you enjoy a professor who is high on power and low on student success..this is the one for you!
Worst prof I've ever had. So inconsiderate and arrogant, not to mention he doesn't try and help his students pass instead he wants us to fail. His lectures were based on no relative test content and he made us do everything outside of class. 30% is a group project & you can still fail even if you do your part each week like I did. RUN.
Professor Gervais lectures lacked depth, offering scant knowledge. Unfair grading and evaluations created frustration among students. Moreover, the professor's rude demeanor further diminished the overall learning environment. A subpar experience that left much to be desired. Should be removed from the faculty..
Professor Gervais lectures fell short on content, providing minimal knowledge. Unjust grading practices and harsh evaluations left students dissatisfied. The professor's rudeness added to the negative experience. Overall, a subpar learning atmosphere with room for improvement. Horrible, will instantly drop any class if i see his name as the prof.
The weekly quizzes are not on what you learn from his lectures and the lectures don't teach you the metrics. You need to watch his videos on D2L and teach yourself the metrics. The simulation project is horrible and he marks you so bad if you don't come in first place, even if you did all the work and didn't place badly.
His lectures are extremely engaging and help with theory. Unfortunately, he only teaches theory. Metrics is left to the textbook and some pre-recorded lectures. The class is called Marketing Metrics. He doesn't teach the metrics.
All the previous reviews are my experience summed up. Great lecturer, however teaches none of the metrics in class (which is 80% of your grade). Rigid in his ruling and deadlines. Be prepared to spend hours weekly on the group project, only to end up with a mediocre mark if you're not ranked first place. Goodluck.
Worst Prof. Switch out if possible, if not please know: 1) Group Project software does not follow its own rules. If you do not get a good rank, you will loose 10-12% marks in total 2) Miderm, finals had lots of questions from supplemental readings and some MKT 100 Concepts. Metrics are fine if you do his weekly quizzes and watch all his videos.
You should go to class and take notes, because this professor's tests will have questions related to the lecture. Besides, for me, the theoretical part of the tests is difficult, and the metrics are ok, not too bad.
You will need to attend every class, as there will be a quiz at the end and you will need a password to access the quiz. So if you want to get points, you must attend. In terms of teaching style, this professor is ok.
he is worst at teaching and grading. dont want others to take him as a instructor
RUN, RUN, RUN. If you wanna do well in university, especially well while majoring in marketing this prof is not what u looking for, the midterm exams are awful, the questions are complete nonsense and the teaching method is all about reading out the slides and showing you random videos from youtube, this is not what you came for! Makeup midterm?BYE
He's an interesting guy; pretty funny with his witty jokes. He tries to make class interesting with videos and demonstrations and examples. Final exam was killer because there were about 15-16 chapters. Use the online tools he provides and try and not to come late!
Prepare to teach yourself material. Good luck with the simulation as well, it is not fun. His exams are very random and challenging, sometimes studying does not really do much, the metrics are insane and the MC are random.
I don't recommend him. Cannot teach properly, not teaching metrics, you have to do it yourself. Was rudely asking why I was 15 minutes late (attendance is not mandatory by the way!), the exams are heavy and questions are random. In class lectures are basically useless, you have to rely on yourself. He is not interested in his own work I would say.
evyerthing except the midterm and final is online and easy. his lectures are just not necessary, often doesn't cover course material and just trails off on something unrelated to the course but related to marketing in general. wouldn't recommend going to class but take him as a prof if you're good studying on your own as everything else is online.
Saw him slap a kids hand today while collecting exam papers yuck
What kind of prof doesnt teach metrics or content but talks about his bmw and flexes that and ontop of that I was baffled to see him slap an exam out of an asian boys hand lol very professional of him and TMU
Great guy, terrible prof. Expects you to learn everything on your own, goes on about related but irrelevent tangins yet refuses to lecture for longer than 75mins (in a 3 hour class). The class is only hard because he refuses to help where its needed.
RUN AWAY WHILE U CAN!!!!!!!!!!!!!
worst experience ever.
He doesn't help you at all. Does not teach the metrics AT ALL in class and only teaches like 2% of the other concepts in class. Expects you to learn everything on your own but makes it impossible to. Doesn't respond to emails, is not understanding of any of your problems and would never ever take him again.
This is a metrics class, but he is too lazy to teach and instead tells you to watch his recording. It's a 3-hour class, but he refused to teach for more than 75 minutes. Mid.
He was good for MKT100. I didn't mind him in MKT300 EXCEPT for the group simulation (25% of the grade), which was graded hierarchically; even if all teams did well, the lowest-ranked could get ~50%. so rigged. if he offered help where it was needed, that'd be nice. you teach yourself metrics in both 100 and 300 with the video lectures he provides.
The midterm was fully online while the final was a regular in-person physical exam. There is a group report you have to do on a restaurant which was fun and then a presentation on the report. Attendance isn't mandatory but his lecture slides are a little convoluted so I found using the textbook easier.
Doesn't care. Worst time ever.
