Not a good professor, good personality but when it comes to teaching he can’t explain anything. I wouldn’t recommend you taking him. Class consists of him writing out the problems he works on a sheet of paper to the board. He’s like a machine just photo coping the paper to the board. CAN’T TEACH.
BEWARE!!!!!!
If you want a teacher that wont answer questions because, he is to lazy, he already worked a similar problem, he thinks its to easy, or he thinks the problem is to hard. And a teacher who stops grading homework in the middle of the semester because he does not have the time. than take his class.

arciniega is really not bad compared to others. he explains examples clearly and if there are questions, he's willing to stay late and meet during office hours. He offers exam reviews that are exactly like the exams and grades with a curve. as in any cal class, an A requires some effort.
I disliked the class, don't recommend for other students.
Not helpful at all. Will not explain concepts if you miss a class, you will have to meet privately with him. Does not like to answer questions. Works problems, but does not explain concepts and leaves out steps when working problems.
he's ok but he just doesn't know how to explain it clearly. You feel as if you're the stupidest person if you ask a question and you don't get it right the first time. Students do help though, but he tends to get overprotective to whos in authority, so watch out. Just visit him and he'll help out.
CAN'T TEACH!
reviews: 60 questions long for six question tests. half of the review questions were word problems and only two on the exams yet they were worth 30 pts a piece. unreasonable work load. Emphasis put on memorizing things instead of learning concepts. monkey see monkey do attitude. TERRIBLE TEACHER
He's really helpful if you go to office hours to ask questions. He expects a lot out of his students and an A requires a LOT of studying, especially after the first exam.
Yes, very true! That review sucked! I hated it. I stayed up late for 3 nights and by the third night I stopped caring. He's not too good on teaching, but he does give partial credit. His reviews are terrible and he can't spell. I gave him a poor grade on the survey and his TA is worse. He can't speak english! Take him only as a last resort.
Not the best calculus teacher that I have ever had. His teaching style is very abstract and I would not recommend this teacher if you don't catch onto calculus very easily.
not the best teacher in the least. don't know if he means well but messes up alot. when you ask for help at his office he does little to help. he APPEARS to be very shy and quiet, but is not. but doesn't seem to help the situation in any way. would not look at you when speaking, if any speaking took place. overall bad, don't take unless necessary.

Exams DO NOT reflect course material. His exams are extremely hard and he grades very harshly. One small mistake makes an A become a C. I had straight A's for two years in a row and struggled to simply pass his class. Absolutely no help in his office hour, if you as a question he simply reads from the book. Take only as a last resort.
Exams are impossibly hard, you don't feel prepared. He grades very harshly. One simple mistake, and an A becomes a C. Take only as a last resort.
Great teacher, lots of examples, answers questions, willing to help outside of class. Do your homework, read the book, you'll do fine.
He seems very tough in the beginning of the semester but i think its just to weed out those students who are gonna drop anyway. He gives you reviews to study for the exams and the exam comes straight from those reviews with only a few new questions. He is more than willing to help. I would definitely take him again. As long as you put forth the eff
AWESOME professor!! Having transferred from a junior college to UTSA, I didn't know what to expect. This professor laid all my fears to rest - he's the BEST! Explains things in depth, uses examples (and variations) from the book to explain step-by-step, and the exams are identical to his reviews! I would definitely recommend!
Still taking his classes!! STILL AWESOME!!
He is useless. Wanna know why? Everything he wrote in his lectures is exactly the same as the book. Offers nothing new to say except "The test will be on the date of..." The take-home final test was a nightmare for me. If you are really brilliant in math, take him...it's an easy A. Otherwise, go be strolling along. LOTS of HW, QUIZZES, and TESTS.
He's not a bad teacher like many say. You'll do well if you study;I got an A. If you don't understand something, you can go see him and he'll explain it to you. I did all the homework that was assigned...it wasn't tedious or anything. One of the downsides, however, is that he doesn't explain concepts so clearly; that really annoyed me though.
Goes over every section. The class gets easier as the semester progresses because he ends up with a lot of take home quizzes.
He's a great teacher! You do have to do your share of work but its a math class what do you expect? He does have quizzes every week but they're only 2 questions, Homework is every week. Tests aren't bad as long as you do homework. examples done in class help a lot also. Plus, easy grader on tests.
This guy is truely amazing... It was a really hard subject for me until I signed up for Arciniega's class and made a B. He's very understanding and allows makeup work as long as your not BSing. Work load is high so you cant stop going to class or not do the homework. Every part of his class is important!!! But its definitely worth the effort. =)
He is a very nice guy, but he is not a great teacher, and I think he's know it. His lectures are extremely fast paced and often confusing. To compensate, he grades his tests and quizzes very easily and will give you extra points on homework if you ask. It's not hard to make a good grade, but don't expect to learn much in his classes.
This professor is very easy going. He will let you make up work and his tests all have a take home part. If you take the time to understand the homework the quizzes are easy. He gives credit for at least trying the problem. He teaches like you would expect a math professor to teach, all chalk and little chat.
There are very few upper division math professors that are this good at teaching, but he is definately one of them. He goes through problems and tests are written (instead of multiple choice). He is great at explaining and should you be confused about something he will go into further explanation. Definately one of my favorite professors.
My class was mostly online and extremely easy. No limits on HW and that made the tests extra easy if you feel my drift... found a loophole in mymethlab ;)but he's a cool and funny teacher. most likely easiest calc 3 teacher at UTSA. I got an easy A with little effort... hopefully it doesnt f me in the a.
Took Real Analysis I, took all the tests early, did the homework and the take-home quizzes, get an A. Simple as that. I read the earlier reviews and was surprised by what was said. Either he is another Armando Arciniega or a completely changed man. Subject is hard, not him
Basically teaches directly from the book, but usually modifies examples slightly to promote a better understanding of the material. Grades VERY leniently. As long as you do all the homework, (take-home) quizzes, and know what you're doing on the exams, it would be very difficult to receive any grade other than an A.
Funny guy, very easy going, and willing to help. Everything is online (awesome) but the final is not. Do not take him if math doesn't come easy to you. This is the first time I've taken Calc. and i will be retaking it next semester. However if you have been through the material I'd say go for it! super easy A if you know what you're doing.
He doesn't know how to explain math! His accent cannot be understand. in the syllabus he told us everything online expect the final (25%) He gave you two attempts for each test and unlimited time and you can save your answers and complete later. Finally he said the final will be online so you can get A while you are at home but without knowing Math
the class was very easy every thing is in mymathlab, the homework, the quizzes and the exams. Note, I take the class in 5-weeks summer
I loath that I had to pay to take this course AND for mymathlab. No point in going to class. Hes super nice but super lazy. Use mymathlab for everything, hw,tests, even the final. Basically taking an online course. Encourages cheating. Bad teacher, easy class
Most everything is online and pretty easy. Funny guy (if you even decide to attend. You can probably pass with minimal attendance) however, barely helps you individually. Emails to him will go unanswered for days at a time and when he does finally respond it's likely he'll just have you meet him in his office. Easy class, but not very helpful guy.
This developmental course was really easy for me to understand, although the professor has a strong accent and writes really unclear. The homework was easy to complete because it was all submitted through My Math Lab, and he made up reviews for our exams after we completed the first one.
Attendance not mandatory but I highly suggest attending class. Quizzes are take home along. Test are easy if you study the notes and the test also have a take home portion. Recommend taking Arciniega for this course, he is also funny!
His class wasn't difficult if you went. If you missed a couple of days you could get the notes on blackboard and catch up. Funny guy, loves cracking jokes and makes class interesting. Exams were about 6 questions open ended. Very lenient on grading, as long as you got the concept you were fine. Have an A. Recommend him if you want a relaxed teacher
This is a tough class and he lectures very quickly but you get used to it. Not much time for questions or interaction. HW due weekly, take home weekly quizzes also, but its not hard if you keep up. Very specific on what he wants and the tests are easy. I like this prof a lot, makes it seem easy. Must have the book. Don't get behind & you'll do fine
The class can be an easy A if you use your resources correctly. He only gave us 10 quizzes and 10 assignments over the semester, in addition to 3 exams and the final. As long as you don't screw up those few grades (because he will NOT let you make it up), you should be fine.
Arciniega the best Prof I have had @UTSA. I got B Cal 1. however its much essay if you don't missClass. Homeworks and Quizzes are super essay and it's online thru MyMathlab. and 4 tests also it's essay and it due in class 50 min. the only hard is the Final, but you should be fine. I would strongly Recommend him. take him and you'll by happy ;)
Easy class if you take advantage of it. Lets you use graphing calculator. Goes somewhat fast and is not very interactive with his class. If you have taken calc before and have somewhat of a grasp, take him, easy A.
Took him for Foundations of Math SPRING 2015. I had heard how hard the class normally is; it was his first time ever teaching it. The material proved complex and intimidating, he managed to explain it well enough and helped me actually learn as well as earn a high A! He lectures quickly, grades appropriately, and allows a cheat sheet on every exam.
Dr. Arciniega is very clear & direct when teaching. Take notes! HW due every 7 to 14 days. Quizzes are take-home (1 to 2 probsproofs). Some assigned problems are directly from class notes. He gives an in-class review for exams. Grades fairly & quickly. I so wish that he was teaching the rest of my upper-division math courses.
His lectures are clear and understandable but overall I don't recommend him. MyMathLab won't be beneficial to prepare for tests, he uses the old fashioned way.
never been to class . i still passed with an A . i would recommend to take him.
Good personality, but terrible teacher. Everything is online I might as well have taken the online course. I learned more from googling answers to questions than what he taught in class. His hours are non existent if you work during the day.
Great Professor! His lectures are easy to follow, and the homework/quizzes are on MyMathLab. He knows the material he is teaching and is very helpful with questions. His test come straight from his reviews, and his in class review before the test let you know what is going to be on the test. Great Teacher and I would love to take him again.
Failed the class, but not his fault. Class was 90% MyMathLab (including quizzes) and 3 in-class tests and final. Explains pretty well, but don't make my mistake and forget about MyMathLab. He has a little bit of a Spanish accent, but nothing too major. Never lets class out early, and often starts immediately, so arrive early.
Very nice professor, but hard course. It's really up to you to do well. Online hw is significant part of your grade. It really helps to do it, so stay on top of it and you'll do well on exams. He lets you have a formula sheet with anything except solved problems on it, but be careful about relying on it, it will hurt you in Cal3! I recommend him
I took him for cal 1 winter of 2016. I started to take Calc 2 with a different professor. I dropped. So i am taking arciniega in summer of 2017.. Fun teacher.
Arciniega is pretty hilarious. He is extremely punctual and sometimes will start a minute or two before the class is supposed to start. He is a challenging professor with a heavy accent. He is math wizard and he teaches that way so he expects you to know everything. He also moves extremely fast. Be prepared or you WILL be left behind.
Overall he is a pretty decent teacher. He shows you how to do the math, but doesn't do the derivations (which sucked for me but for others is fine). He's pretty helpful and accessible. In addition to that he's a pretty nice/funny guy so class isn't a chore to go to (in my opinion). Not amazing, but decent.
cal 2 isn't an easy class at all, so you really have to keep that in mind when taking this course. He moves quickly so my suggestion is to just stay on top of everything. Good news though, he does youtube videos that slows everything down. Hes available outside of class, gives partial credit on exams, and also has a sense of humor.
He wasn't very good at lectures and went through each lesson SO quickly. He does upload YouTube videos of each lesson, so that's nice, but sometimes the answers are wrong on his own work. His test are all open-ended and he is pretty generous when he grades.
He is difficult to understand through his thick accent. Most of the lecture problems that were done in class had errors. Bring the book to class and be prepared to teach yourself to get through this class.
Gets pretty in depth on lessons and clearly knows his stuff. Despite the actual material being quite difficult, he is incredibly lenient and understanding. Would definitely recommend for Calc 2. Definitely my most fun teacher.
Mr. Arciniega lectures on bunny speed and when one lecture question takes up two chalkboards it is very hard keep up with him let alone comprehend what you are writing in your notes. Here is the trade off... "easy" tests. Out of all the lecture examples he puts the easiest ones on the exams.
Dr. Arciniega was really rude and really emphasized the fact that our class was so "easy". This class was really demanding and he obviously didn't care. Class was mandatory but unbearable and boring. Material was easy but putting up with him was not. I would have gotten an A if this class didn't have so many outside obstacles added in.
Prof Arciniega is great. He is Mexican and makes a lot of jokes during his class so it is very enjoyable. He goes at a fast paced just because there is a lot of material to cover and Calc 2 is a hard class either way. He offers extra credit and is very understanding. Definitely recommend him for calc.
Calculus 2 is hard in general, but he makes it enjoyable. He tries to make the class as fun as possible and explains everything in depth. He has office hours where you can go if you are struggling or have any questions and he also gives extra credit for tests. All the homeworks are online.
Some of his reviews say hes hard to understand but hes not. Hes very easy to understand when he lectures. Calc 2 is a hard subject but his lectures were very good and exams were reasonable and not impossible. He offered extra credit for every exam even the final. The final was only 15% of the overall grade. I would definitely recommend him.
Mr. Arciniega tries to make class as enjoyable as possible and always offers extra credit. If you enjoy only going over examples during lecture, this is the class for you. Personally, it took me some adjusting in the beginning but eventually the class was easy as long as you really study the review and do your homework.
Dr. Arciniega is an amazing calc teacher! You will need to attend class as its mandatory but he is super funny and that breaks up the example heavy lectures. The HW is much harder than the tests are so if you can spend a good amount of time working through HW sets you will find the tests super easy. Outside of class he is fun to talk to as well.
I took him for my Cal II class during summer. He was a great professor and you have lot of chances to get a good grade by doing the homework and just coming to class. Before class starts, he will go over any problems we have. His lectures are clear and understandable. His tests were fair and he is easy with grading.
The Professor has a thick accent but after you get past that he explains things very clearly and makes calculus 2 as simple as possible. His tests are very easy and homework is 40 percent of the grade.
Arciniega is very nice, and the teaching is fairly average. The homework tends to be harder than the exams so as long as you go through the homework and try to understand the problems then you'll be fine.
Very cool teacher who can easily explain things, do and understand the homework and you will be fine.
Honestly, I don't think he's a bad professor, he just isn't compatible with my learning style. His teaching style is more like explaining the concept quickly and a summary of what's going on in the example. I learn better when the teacher starts from the beginning of the concept and writes along with you. But that's my fault I guess.
To be honest, I really struggled in his class. During the first few lectures, I noticed that he mainly teaches through pre-written notes with very few examples actually worked out. Students are allowed to ask questions at the very end of the lecture, as he records the session. I just think that his teaching style didn't work for me.
His lectures were not helpful at all when it came to actually understanding the material. He only did what he had to solve homework equations. He didn't always explain what he did to an equation and expected us to just understand it without help. Asking questions were not welcomed as he stated, "We just weren't paying attention." Not recommended.
This class is really easy because of the way the grades are set up. The prof's teaching style is mainly to show a prewritten problem and talk through it. The ones he does solve live are riddled with mistakes and the class will have to correct him routinely. You are better off just using Khan Academy instead of attending class. The class is easy tho
Our class started online then transitioned to in-person. I struggled when we were online and his teaching style was a hard to adapt to (talks through prewritten notes), but class is very doable. Tests are just like the HW, do it and you'll be fine. He records his lectures and is very willing to help during office hours. Gives extra credit
I think he gets more flak than he deserves sometimes, but overall he's amazing for calculus I. His notes are pretty much exactly like the homework, walks you through everything and also offers extra credit for each test (up to 10 pts). If you do the hmwk and test reviews you'll ace with more than a 100. But it is calc so expect the usual toughness.
Great professor! Every class you walk through the homework and that is how he teaches the material. If you have questions look at the notes on blackboard and you should be able to find your answer. He is easy to reach out of class. Up to 10 extra credit points on each test if you complete the test review.
I was very skeptical for the first few weeks when this class was online due to the pandemic, but in person it got much better. He leaves time at the end of class to go over an area someone might have issues with, and is always willing to give extra help. He also makes sure to make his lectures fun so they don't get boring. I recommend this prof!!!
The first few weeks were online and at first, he was pretty bad at answering questions or doing problems, but as soon as we came back in person it was like a different professor. He would go through almost all the homework questions and would not mind going even further into depth if you came into his office hours. He was also really funny.
Worthless. I didnt learn anything from him. I disagree with the other reviews saying hes different in person vs online. Im counting on learning calculus 1 while Im in calculus 2. Notes are awful and impossible to read. Never available outside class and tells you not to ask questions. Do NOT take him.
Attendance isn't mandatory Lots of homework You have three tries on your test and gives a ton of extra points
Goes through lessons too quickly, has very messy handwriting, and expects you to listen, take notes and understand what he is doing all at once. He goes through homework problems, solves it out on his own and expects you to understand what he did, all while an absurd amount of mistakes is made.
In class the whole time he will work on homework problems that are exactly like the homework assigned to you. If you're good at calculus you can do them at the same time as he does and have no homework to do. He does make a lot of mistakes when solving problems and his handwriting can be messy, so it can get confusing at times.
Funny. Does homework in class for steps. Up to you to learn & breakdown the concepts. Ask questions. Uses equation shortcuts, so learn them. Wants to see you pass. DON'T CHEAT! Practice way beyond your "I've got this" point & without notes. Webworks is horrible. Use paul's math notes & prof. leonard (YT) for clarifying concepts. Go to class.
Class is not hard for the most part, I'm able to easily solve hw bc he does examples in class. He doesn't really explain the concepts, just shows the work but that's really all u need for an A. He cut me some slack after I failed a few hw assignments after being sick, since I emailed him before they were due, he omitted them from my grade. He's nice
He was a great professor i took him for both cal 1 and 2
Dr. Arciniega is amazing! I came into Cal 1 with low confidence from Trig but he really showed the fundamentals of cal to succeed. He records all his lectures and uploads his notes. Those helped to reference back when I got stuck on homework. He also makes small jokes which makes his lectures fun to attend.
One of the best mathematics professor I have ever had. He explains concepts really well over a multitude of problems, but you need to attend class in order to get the learning from him overall. Very humorous as well.
I took his Cal 1 class last semester and was so pleased that I took him again. He uploads all notes and lectures. Homework is long but cal 2 is not an easy class. He was always accessible for office hours, even without an appointment. He was fairly quick to answer my two emails throughout the semester. I wish he was teaching more math classes
This was an amazing class. He made calc II understandable, and I love that he did problems with us. I took calc I here and had a terrible experience, so I was worried about calc II, but because of this professor, I passed! He is easy to approach and always happy to help his students.
Professor Armando was a spectacular, understanding and effective teacher in this course. Unfortunately, the TA for my particular course was a very nit-pick grader who made incompetent and laughable notes. When I was fed up with the TA's laziness, I discussed it with Mr. Armando. He taught me the correct material and helped me in partial credit. -AG
Professor Arciniega was a great Professor. Calc 2 is not an easy class but he goes over examples with us that are similar to the homework. He also gives us hints on what's going to be on the exams so that helped a lot. There is a good amount of extra credit opportunities that can help your grade overall. He's nice.
If you care about truly understanding Calculus 2, don't take this professor. He just tells you what to do and how to do it, not why. He had a rough time explaining the "why" every time I asked. But, he taught you what you needed to know to pass so he's not all that bad. Extra credit opportunities for tests and does the hw in class as lectures.
His lectures are just going over problems in web work. If you don't show up to class you're going to have to intuit how to solve the problems because the notes on their own are not very explanation heavy. Tests were some of the easier questions from the homeworks.
if youre absent more than 4 times he drops you out of the course. his lectures are just him reading the textbook and going over homework problems. hes also a tough grader on the exams
One of the better cal 2 along with reza, exams were graded very graciously and offered a ton of extra credit. Only take him or Reza for cal 2. The other professors are way more strict
I took a summer class, which honestly was not that tough. Class was M-Thursday, as long as you show up and listen, it is pretty easy to understand the topics. I got the grade I got, because I have been having a hard time focusing and personal reasons. Dr Arciniega is funny, and is not a hard grader. If you fail this class, it's on you.
Honestly amazing professor. I was worried about taking Calc II as a summer course, but Dr. Arciniega made it 100% doable. He explained things simply and was always willing to help students who had questions. Exams were mainly the easier questions from the homeworks and he gives a good amount of extra credit out.
Professor Arciniega is a solid choice for calc 2. Calc 2 was hard, but this choice will benefit in the long run. He mostly goes over webwork problems during class days with exams every 3-4 weeks. If you go to class, takes notes, and do the homework, you'll be fine. Take advantage of the extra credit for exam reviews. You will need them.
Overall solid professor. Attending class is very necessary for your success. He often gives hints as to the type of questions to expect on the exams. Do the exam reviews for extra credit it's comforting knowing you're starting the exam with 10 "free" points. Try your best on the first 3 exams, cause the final is humbling.
Despite Calc 2 being tough, Prof. Arciniega makes it manageable. He goes over examples in class and gives helpful hints for exams. Unstuck study was a great study supplement alongside the free textbook. Definitely take this class if you want to learn the material well.
He know math good, washer method is not for washing machines.
He does not explain concepts very well. 90% of the time he is doing problems straight from the book and he goes quite fast. I had to use youtube to understand, especially for material covering areas and volumes. Homework is quite manageable, but the exams can be a challenge. He has exam reviews you can do for extra credit.
Calc 2 is a difficult subject, but the prof. made it understandable. I did better in calc 2 than in calc 1 thanks to him. He goes over webwork problems in class and teaches in a way that is easy to comprehend. Math actually made sense for once. The review is extra credit, and really helps a lot, some of the test questions are on there! Take him!
Straight up goated. He made calculus II so manageable and he teaching style by just working out problems is what made me understand a lot better.
Definitely one of the best professors for Calculus 2. He's got a great sense of humor, gives up to 13 extra credit points per exam, clearly explains how each test is graded, and goes over plenty of examples. The textbook is free on OpenStax. Homework is not much, but it can pile up very quickly, so you cannot procrastinate on any assignment. 10/10
Dr. Arciniega was an amazing professor and was hilarious. Lectures are mainly going over practice problems which were very helpful. Easy A+ as long as you show up and participate.
Coming into Calc II I thought I was going to get a C maybe a B since I only got a 4 on the AP AB Calc test, but no Dr.Arciniega explains the topics really well and provides a lot of examples in class n online which are helpful. Test are relatively easy and have lots of extra credit but even without it my lowest test was an 80 so not bad.
he's so funny whenever he teaches and just does practice problems every class to teach material. thought i'd hate calc II, ended up loving it because he made course so easy and manageable. def best professor for this course.
Dr. Arciniega was super nice and clear on how the class was. I loved how the classes consisted on solving problems, and exams had really similar problems to those solved in class or on the reviews. He also gave a lot of practice exams, formula sheets, and extra credit for the exams. If you do you homework and practice, you will do great in class.
Class was very difficult, indeed, but he made it so easy to keep up, understand, and excel in the topics that it was no problem. Awesome professor, great sense of humor, and loads of extra credit, he really wants you to pass this class.
Dr. Arciniega is a truly fantastic professor. He explained problems in a way made difficult concepts pretty simple to grasp. He is very helpful when answering questions, and is hilarious and relatable. He offers lots of extra credit for exams, and though there is a bit of homework, it is manageable and he works through it with you in class.
Dr. Arciniega is a great professor. If you learn best through practice problems then you are in the right place. He goes over plenty of problems from the free textbook and the HW. Furthermore, he offers extra credit for each exam, including the final.
Dr. Arciniega is an incredible choice for Calculus II. He gives out SO much extra credit on exams if you do your practice problems before your exam. He's also hilarious and his lectures are easy to follow. He goes over a lot of homework examples in class, so don't skip lectures. There is a textbook, but it is completely free online!
Awesome teacher, he'll move a little fast but as long as you pay decent attention and complete the webwork, you'll do great. He's great every class, offers extra credit, and his assignments are really good for understanding the concepts on the exam. Definitely would take this teacher again.
