At first He comes across as an easy going professor. Then I found him to be pompous and demeaning. If you didn't laugh at his jokes he would add on meaningless assignments pior to a test. His theories on world economy and global consequences were bizarre.
great teacher! His classes are boring, but he grades easy and makes jokes. He loves the raiders.
This class isn't hard. There are 2 quizzes(50pts each) & 1 midterm and a final(100pts each). 1 project(50pts) Take his lecture and lab at the same time because it's much easier when you take both at the same time. The lab is a piece of cake.
Good Teacher, Fun Class, Keeps you up and interested. I recommend his class. He's pretty cute too...well his cuteness grows on you.
Mr. Mendoza is an awesome teacher. He is very passionate about Geography and you can tell through his teachings! I highly advise you take this class for a science course. You'll enjoy it!
Mr. Mendoza is an excellent teacher and he is everything but stupid! It is obvious that Geography is his passion and that he enjoys to teach it! The person that wrote the previous comment is retarded and probably never studied and failed!!!!
Great teacher, you dont need the book I didnt buy it and I still passed. Just take good notes and getting a B wont be a problem.
I really enjoyed Mr.Mendoza's geography class. He was always helpful and was an understanding teacher. I liked him so much I am taking his geo 102 class along with the lab. He's test arent to hard but not super easy but if you follow directions you should be fine! I would recommend his classes.
mr mendoza is a very intelligent man. he knows what he is talking about and his lectures are very clear and easy to understand. his class isnt really based on many points so you need to make sure to do your part and study for the quizzes(2) midterm and final. would recommend.. great teacher
Mr. Mendoza is a pretty cool guy. He cracks jokes a lot, and uses a lot of analogies to teach geographic processes, which are also pretty funny. His class is easy given that you show up, pay attention (or read the book), and do the few assignments that he does assign. Reading the book will only sometimes be a necessity, but of course, won't h
Awesome teacher, and fairly easy to get an "A" if you come to class everyday. Don't be absent because 99% of the material comes from his powerpoint presentations. Follow directions and ask questions if you're confused. If he tells you how to get an "A" on the final, listen! All i had to do was bring what he asked, and he sent us home with an "A".
Mr. Mendoza is one of my favorite parts of Cypress College. There's so much to say about him. Smart, funny, as well as everything you want in a teacher. Anyone who goes to Cypress College needs to take Mr. Mendoza's World Geography class.
Great class. He's a eay teacher. Make sure you bring all your note and tab up your book for the final. People who did that on final day just had to show him and got an automatic A on the final. :)
Such an amazing teacher. He's really flexible and understanding. You'll ace by just attending class and bringing your materials. He's funny and keeps things interesting.
Seriously one of the most laid back teachers ever, hes real chill..one of the easiest classes to pass..just make an effort and youre good..get youre**** done early and you leave..havent had him..take him..
To be honest, I wasn't sure about his class; but as time went on I really enjoyed it.
He is the best teacher i have had at cypress. I hated geography before going into his class, now i love it. He does power points, and the tests are simple if you are not sleeping in class. Great teacher, go raiders!
Prof. Mendoza is a great teacher!! He's so intelligent..he makes learning fun..he's easy on sore eyes as well..
What a difeence a professor makes.I attempted to take this class with another prof. b4 him and had to drop because I have never been so bored in my life. Mendoza is the furthest thing from boring considering the subject. He made the class interesting and he is totally funny and very easy to talk to. If you need to take 102, he's the only way 2 go.
He is really cool, interesting and must really love geography as he is very passionate about it! Classes started pretty well but were rushed at the end. His lectures are great...don't just write down his slides, listen to his lectures and read the book (even thoe it is boring!). Big time Raider fan!
hes not hard but has stupid jokes and gives stupid projects like eat with your group to understand the culture more and write a billion word essay on it with a presentation. if your the type that hates pointless assignments, dont take him
Mendoza is a great teacher...he's passionate about geography and has an ability to make you passionate about it as well...taken a few of his geo classes they're all good...
Professor Mendoza is a unique professor; he teaches the subject matter with a great deal of passion. He uses many personal stories and analogies to clarify many intricate concepts. Lecture is a bit challenging because the exams encopass many convoluted questions, but there is unlimited ex. cred to do. Just show up and study lightly for the quizzes.
Mr Mendoza is a great teacher.
Likes to talk a lot. He is a funny guy, but I agree with the guy below. the food assignment was pretty stupid. Especially bcause my group was lazy and I ended u doing most of the work. Easy A if you do all of the work and go to class though.
great
Well there is unlimited extra credit, but be prepared to work your *** off. You must read the book! His testa are difficult, in my class there was only 1 A on the midterm... He likes to show a lot of pointless videos.
He loves Geography, and it shows. Tends to ramble about some things but it a really nice guy. You need to study for his tests but there really isn't too much hw besides 2 current events and a dinner project which is pretty cool. Interesting class, I like Geography though :)
Good Teacher very helpful! Young, funny and energetic. Seems like an all around nice guy.
Damn fine teacher. I changed my major after taking his classes. Clear, concise and has a great sense of humor.
Really crazy professor!
This professor is always late for class, and never finish class on time!!
He makes his lectures funny because sometimes they can be boring and overwhelming but his class is easy. You have to study your notes and book to get an A on the exams-they're scantrons!
very passionate about his subject. he is very funny and tries to make the class fun....he is like a cool guy.
Very passionate teacher but hard to follow lecture for 3 hours. If Geog. is interesting to you then take this teacher.
Will def not bore u,passionate about geog. Tests are full of questions that he doesn't review in class.Must study very hard for his tests!Endless x-tra credit.Obviously thinks he's the most intelligent person in the world--making up for the fact that he's not teaching a hard science?
LOVE HIM! He's a great teacher! He totally loves geography and loves to teach it. His classes are pretty fun, he encourages students to engage in conversation. I would totally recommend this class, he's very reasonable and helpful. I don't think he's stuck up at all!
He's a great teacher! His exams are not that easy, you got to study the right material. One of the best things i enjoyed in his class was the food project. I had fun. Take him only if you're not a slacker.
okay really i dont know what all the fuss is about mendoza!! he just jumps into subject matter expecting the student to know what it is prior to taking his class....never lets us out on time and tests are extremely hard!! take another prof.
I took this guy for the Summer, and he's anal and has a "No Quarter" teaching style! We did in-class exercises that were stupid. And he overemphasis information, like talking down to the students in a way. Mendoza loves to talk about his life and tries to use it as an analogy, but it goes on way too long! Try Doak, Kristen, or Nicholas instead!
okay teacher. you have 2 go to class because if he sees that people aren't going he takes attendance give a lame inclass assignments due next class day. if you weren't there the day he took attendance, than you cant get credit for the assignment. lame current event papers. talks about his life alot, and ends up rambling off topic. constantly bored
Class isn't hard. the three hour class had no homework. Sometimes the labs were confusing. Super anal about everything. Nice guy, but his mannerisms bothered me.
I just got done taking his class + the lab right after and I think he is awesome. He is really funny and really knows what he is talking about. The tests were hard for me, but I did not have a textbook and I just did the assignments and I passed. He gives a lot of extra credit, which is easy and kind of fun. Seriously, take him. - john :D
It's much better to take him for the Lab instead of the Lecture class. All you do is show up with your Materials/Lab Manual and do the In-Class Assignments. The weekly quizes are straight-forward as long as you do the work. A safe bet if you need this for CSU Gen Ed Requirments ;)
This guy is boring for one. Second, he tries to talk like he's so knowledgeable about the subject but he's not fooling anyone. He is a butt about attendance sometimes but lets certain people get away with it. Sometimes he gives quizzes on book material to punish those he does notice aren't attending and he DOES boot you for not attending. Ack!
Mendoza is a great teacher. He is very passionate about teaching and geography which makes the class exciting to be in. The class itself is normal workload but there are generous extra credit opportunities. Take this class!
Very nice guy. If you plan to ditch don't even attend college... idiot down there, easy class, just pay attention and take good notes. The book use in class is recommended, very helpful it you take lecture with his lab. Very easy just do your work, not even hard. There are many things to cover so missing class will hurt. Do the Extra Credit!!!!
class was pretty easy... did good with hw and test.. and retarded group project... i missed only one day... the last day of class and this fool gives me a C!!! i almost shat myself!
Mr.Mendoza is a great professor. He really knows his stuff and he can definitely teach it. All that YOU need for this class is to be consistent, study for the tests, and relate his stories to the material. Extracredit and doing your class work is a must though there are few. Definitely take this class, youll learn alot and get a good grade too.
Easy class!! Study. Be on time. Pay attention. You get what you work for
Good teacher, nice guy. Fairly easy class. He is kind of arrogant with an "I'm the teacher, you're the student, bow to me!" attitude at times, but he's fair and nice other than that. Make sure not to miss!
Show up to class, pay attention, and do the homework. It's really as simple as that. His tests are exactly what he said in his lectures and he is very generous with extra credit. Take his class.
very chill teacher but knows what he is talking about. ties in his past events with the lecture to help you remember. lenient grader and ec include good amount of points. only 2 current events and like 4 tests that are hard only if you dont study the notes. lets you use one side of a notecard each test and one test is open book with your group.
Mendoza's cool, you cant really mind him. Hes down for you to do whatever in class as long as youre not disturbing anyone else. You should read the material if you want an A or a B but if not class lectures are enough to pass if you pay attention. He has a certain type of humor, but its enjoyable. Recommend.
Mr. Mendoza is a great Geo teacher. If you have problems getting to class though, do not take him. He covers a ton of information each session so if you miss once, you'll be way behind. I learned a lot from him and he was very helpful when I asked. If you're a responsible student, you'll do fine. If not, take someone else.
Geography = Mendoza, i took him for world geography, physical geography and lab. THIS IS THE BEST GEOGRPAHY TEACHER IN Orange County!!
I love him! everyone should take his class!! He's cool and fun.
Best geography teacher at Cypress! Take notes and read the book and you'll be fine. Lectures are very interesting. Don't text in class or you'll be sorry! He will kick you out, he's not bluffing.
Professor Mendoza is a Geography expert and has an obvious strong passion for it. His tests are fairly easy and his lectures are straightforward but you should read the book. Warning: Don't go into this class expecting to learn where countries are. That is not what this class is about. Prepare to learn about tilt of the earth, plate tectonics, etc.
Mr. Mendoza's geography lab is just busy work but you MUST show up every session with your book and supplies for full credit on each lab. If you miss a class, he allows you to do ONE make-up assignment. There are short quizzes before each class which can ruin your grade if do poorly on too many of them but I recommend taking him for an easy A or B.
This teacher is just OKAY. Yes, the class is an easy A, but there are a couple of things about this class that I didnt care for ( no break during class, spends a lot of time talking personal stories). I couldnt find his passion for teaching, it felt like he just does it because of the easy schedule. This class is OK, I couldnt recommend either way.
Fast pace and fun. Go to his classes and you'll learn new things about our planet Earth. He is friendly and enjoys teaching. Overall, great class.
Great class. Take good notes and LISTEN because he adds stuff that's not necessarily in the book, but his energy and lame jokes made class fun. Ya, he gets on a tangent about personal stories, but some are pretty hilarious. Lab was easy, too. Attendance is really important for a good grade. Definitely would love to have him again.
Class was pretty straightforward and he tells you what you want. Physical Geography covers more Earth Science topics like Atmosphere, weather, earthquakes, volcanoes, but still some latitude and longitude. Pretty chill guy... tells random stories which can get annoying sometimes, but class was still really easy
Great professor! He makes the material seem easy beyond belief even though its not. Gives alot of side stories but they were interesting and funny. not much use of the book. RECOMMEND the lab with him too. Attendance is MANDATORY!! take the SI and its a A+
hes the coolest professor i've had so far. his tests come straight from his notes in class and are really easy to take.
This man needs to grow up and get it together with the grading! He needs to organize his syllabus so that people know when the test DATES REALLY ARE! He's not funny, and YES! he does spend almost the entire time telling personal stories that no one cares about. He tries to act like a smartass,****s annoying. This class is annoying, good luck!
Even though he didn't show up a couple of classes himself (due to "ill"),or came late for the classes, he is severe with students'. He uses the old textbook. Take this class at your own risk!
love his style. integrates stories to make learning fun.
right now, it is almost final month, and no one in his geol 102 is getting an A. Even though those Asian students could not. the best student's total grade in his class is 89% right now. he does not even offer extra credits. what is worry with him? he need you to watch video in class, and answer video questions in exams. the worst professor!!!!!!!
Great class. Great teacher. One of the best teachers i've had. Take good notes and LISTEN because he adds stuff that's not in the book. Some of his jokes are lame but it helps make the class fun. Sometimes he talks too much about stories but they almost always relate back to the topic. Attendance is a must for a good grade. I would take another clas
Took his night class in spring last semester. He is a cool teacher but passed by studying on my own. not very helpful and likes to talk alot and likes to go off subject. notes are simple tests are easy you just have to study and try and you'll passs with a B
THE BEST TEACHER EVER!!! He uses real life stories to understand the material. The first test u bring a cheat sheet. I got a HIGH A. TAKE THE LAB! As long as you attend, u will get an A! Easiest lab EVER! He is funny. Only 2 writing assignments and they are 1 1/2 pages MAX! He gives EXTRA Credit! MY FAV TEACHER!!!
Great teacher, read the book, DO NOT TEXT during lectures... and your golden... Got an A, doing all the extra credits...
Really nice person and makes a boring subject fun. I would recommend him-study for the tests and your good.
Bottom line is he keeps you interested. He adds humor and passion to his lectures and examples of the outside world to bring everything into focus. He gets comfortable every now and then and slips in a cuss word or two :/ but all in all a really good professor.
Great teacher
Mr. Mendoza is great. The subject has it's highs and lows...I loved some parts of it, but other parts of it (like different kinds of soil) are just so dry. He is really funny and brings in great real-life examples and analogies to help things make sense. I'd take him again in a heartbeat!
Generally funny guy, but barely pushes it with jokes. The material is pretty boring, but he does a great job with clarity and is extremely careful. On top of that, there are even study sessions available before each test that even offer extra credit so you really don't have an excuse to not pass. The majority of the class is in-class notes as well
I never ever write reviews but seriously this is the coolest teacher ever. I took this over the summer and managed a B. I looked forward to this class every day, cause Mendoza is so funny and cool. I think my downfall was that I kept reading the book, but the tests are really all about the lecture notes. Take this teacher. He is RAD!
I took him over the summer & I must say that he's very good instructor! He's very nice & is so funny! Attendance is MANDATORY it helps your grade A LOT! All his exams are pretty much based on his notes. Study the notes b/c all the answers to the exams are literally in the notes! I didn't buy the book and never read it and I still passed his class.
Attend SI sessions, they're very helpful, Andres is wonderful. You can't go wrong with Professor Mendoza is very passionate about what he teaches, making me want to learn more about the subject and his analogies are great. Best college professor I've had by far.
2nd class I've taken with him. He's just cool and knows how to teach. You have to attend daily. As long as you try you'll get full credit for the labs. 5 question quiz every week but easy to get a B even if you bomb them. Effort goes a really long way so don't worry if you have a hard time understanding the subject.
Mendoza is an awesome professor. It's safe to say that mostly all of the questions on quizzes & tests come from lecture notes. There are 2 quizzes, 2 tests, 2 written assignments. I only used my book to study for my final and only invested about 2 hrs of studying from the notes I took from lectures before tests. I got a B. I recommend you take him!
MR. MENDOZA IS A WORLD OF FUN. HE HAS A FUNNY, SCARASTIC HUMOR ABOUT HIM, BUT HE IS PASSIONATE ABOUT HIS FIELDD AND WILL OPEN YOUR EYES TO ITS MANY POSSIBILITES. HIS TEST ARE STRAIGH FORWARD, AND FEW ASSIGNMENTS ARE EASY.HIS LAB IS HANDS ON BUT SHOW UP EVERYTIME AND U HAVE AN A. LOVED THESE CLASSES.
he's really funny and cool. i definitely recommend him. he actually made geography interesting. plus he likes the walking dead. awesome.
Mr. Mendoza its a cool teacher, but you guys have to work to make him like you. If you get on Mr. Mendoza bad side hell its going to be one tough semester. However, if mr. Mendoza likes your class most likekly he'll give you guys chances of extra credit, easy exams, etc.
Good teacher;king of sarcasm; hate his attitude, but he KNOWS what he teaches. overall a good teacher. dont miss any classes or your grade will drop. and dont be stupid, he wont like you. and hope you are in one of his good class, bc if you are final is an easy A
This is the worse class ever and probably not the best teacher either. He seems like a good person out of class but as a teacher I didn't like him. His exams have nothing to do with the notes and lectures. I don't even know how I passed. Don't let other comments on here fool you like they fooled me. And he is such a Leo. Full of himself.
I was interested in learning about Geography in more detail, and this course has taught me a lot! It's not a class where you cram everything in one sitting and then forget the information after the exam. This class requires reading and 1-2 hours of preparation for the exam, but if you attend the lectures, you'll be very prepared for the tests.
Before taking this class I was not really into geography, but right know as I am finishing it I LOVE IT. You can learn so much in a great way about what's around you. As long as you attend the class and study for tests (2 quizes, 2 tests, 2 papers) you should be totally fine. Prof. Mendoza is super funny with really broad knowledge. A++
professor Mendoza is really funny and I immensely enjoyed his class. Tests are relatively easy as long as you study and go to supplemental instruction. He gives lots of extra credit and there is little texbook use required. The only thing I didn't like is that he doesn't give study guides, but he is a tremendous teacher and I would recommend him
There's a total of two exams, two quizzes, and two papers. My best advice is to attend class, skim the book, and take good notes. He also provides extra credit for attending s.i., which is highly recommended.
I took the lab from him, he's a great teacher, knows a lot about his field. His lab isn't too difficult I never found myself having to stay longer than maybe an 1 hour 30. I took his lecture before however and i was not into that. His lecture is definitely for geog majors bc for a 100 class it was way too much. Great guy though, very helpful too
Professor Mendoza knows how to break down detailed concepts and explain it in a simple and understandable manner. He is very enjoyable. His class contains alot of information, Im not going to lie,but he gives you an array of opportunities to improve your grade substantially. I would say your grade is a true reflection of your effort in this class.
Good professor; passionate about his class; makes it interesting. Not the hardest class, but not the easiest. Fair treatment. Good attitude and uses personal experiences in examples.
quite the talker. There is more verbal lecture than notes. Prepare to read and rely on the textbook to teach yourself some concepts that he skims over. uses a lot of class time telling personal anecdotes that don't always relate to class topics.. overall, class isn't too difficult but S.I. definitely helps
Be prepared to put in solid effort to do well in this class. The content is heavy and not the easiest but his lectures are much more engaging than the textbook. He's tough but wants you to do well. He's very knowledgeable and passionate about the subject matter.
one of the best classes I've taken. He's a great teacher that knows what he's talking about. he also is pretty entertaining, makes lectures fun. take notes, do the assignments and study. tests aren't easy, make sure you put in the work. he is very clear about everything, make sure you show up for class and also read before hand.
Interesting course material. But the instructor doesn't know how to effectively convey the material. Apparently, he's been teaching for years, but just about everyone in the class agrees that he really shouldn't be teaching at the college level at all. Lack of course clarity and overall rude disrespect toward students says it all.
This professor is sarcastic but pretty funny. There is plenty of vocabulary to learn, therefore, reading the chapter is a must. He is clear in the syllabus regarding chapters to read, and the two essays he will assign. Taking LOTS of notes and reviewing the questions at the end each chapter will help with the tests.
best prof in geography! Very happy-go-lucky person. He loves Walking Dead. He used a lot of examples to understand more on his lectures. Be ready for 2 essay paper, midterm & final, but if had good notes and attend SI and u are good too go. Attend his class always, attendance is important to him. Gives a lot of extra credit.! Will take it again!
Take Prof. Mendoza. He's awesome and hilarious. One of the coolest teachers I've ever had. The tests can be a little tough but there are a lot of extra credit opportunities. Expect two short research papers, a midterm, and a final. I passed with an A and never went to the S.I. sessions once. Not a hard class if you show up and pay attention.
Easy class. I never even did any of the readings. Material is pretty boring, but it's not hard. Despite popular opinion, I actually dislike his personality. He can come off as condescending at times. He really likes to use analogies for everything he teaches. Like really. Take the class and you'll find out what I'm talking about. Lots of ec too.
Prof. Mendoza has been the best Prof. I've had throughout my college career thus far. Yes he can be intimidating, but his way of teaching (through analogies) makes it easy to retain info. If you're not willing to put effort or do the work, don't bother. He has a wonderful sense of humor and genuinely cares about his students.
Professor Mendoza gives amazing lectures full of analogies, too many in my opinion, although that makes the material better to understand. He gives an extra credit in case of need. Follow directions, read the material, study for the exams, be on time, and you will be fine. Take the class with him, if you want to learn.
Hey, I'm a Geography major with a few other Geography courses completed with all A's. You'd think I'd be able to get an A in this class since after all, it's my major. WRONG. This professor is awful. He goes out of his way to demean and flunk students. I retook this exact class at Fullerton and got a A. Go figure.
Professor Mendoza may not be that funny but at least he tries. He lectures with humor and tries to keep you interested. He also offers plenty of extra credit making it easy for you to earn a passing grade. He's not a tough grader but is very specific about his prompts. he also takes role for participation points.
One of the best professors I had. Teaches with full of passion! I am not a science person, but he made me so interested in geography and the importance of it. He takes out his time sometimes to give us good stories that actually enlightens your mood in humanity. His lecture is amazing and always full of information, love this class
Just don't.
He's cool then hes disrespectful and rude. Very unpredictable person. His way or the highway, Wasn't too hard of a class though show up and do the work.
Prof. Mendoza is really funny and tries to make his students understand his lectures but when you try coming to him for some answers he always has a very rude tone. The class is simple but his exams have questions that weren't even covered in class so you have to read the book at home to catch up.
This class was very interesting however it was a lecture class so it was often hard to pay attention the whole time. Definitely read the corresponding textbook chapter to the lecture because the test will be based on the material from the book and the lecture. He assigns 2 reports and about 2 quizzes. Not test heavy. Good teacher.
Professor Mendoza is a good instructor but can be harsh and rude at times, he understands geography really well and is a smart person but can get upset when you ask stupid question.
For a lab class it was pretty challenging if you think this class is a walk in the park you are dead wrong, he makes you work for your grade and sometimes run the lab class like is for geo major, but overall the class is duable.
Great teacher, recommended
Prof Mendoza makes this class really interesting. I took his lecture and lab class and passed both. Be prepared to take a lot of notes for his lecture. His tests are not hard just make sure to study your notes. His lab is a little difficult but doable. Overall great prof, very passionate on geography and humorous.
Selling McKnights Physical geography textbook 3rd california edition for $65. This is the updated version of the 11th and is better. $65 price negotiable text me 714 479 2837. There are several assignments where the textbook is necessary because you have to cite from it. Overall a decent class and is fine with the book. Not too hard of a grader.
Mendoza is a great Geography Professor. He teaches the subject with a passion, he mainly does all the talking during the lectures which is great because it allows you to take notes. He does give you extra credit opportunities through class work, and by attending SI. Don't skip class it will bring your grade down. (INSERTS THUMBS UP EMOJIS HERE)
Professor Mendoza really cares for his students'! He lectures with a great passion for Geography and also integrates other sciences as well - at times when needed. The amount of concepts and terms can at times be overwhelming but during his lectures he points out analogies that make it easier to understand. Learned a lot from his class, must take!
Professor Mendoza is very passionate about his topics. Lectures are often long, but they're very informative. He can come off as rude or harsh, but if you talk to him outside of class you can develop a great relationship with him! Super helpful and understanding. Makes you want to become a geographer lol :)
Prof. Mendoza makes his lectures so much fun and makes you want to come to class. For his midterm, he gives you everything you need to know so you are ready for it. He made me love geography!
Mendoza is the coolest teacher I have ever had, and his Geography Lectures are rarely boring. Super easy class, but you learn a lot. I wish he didn't only teach Geography, because I want to take another one of his classes. 2 quizzes & 1 midterm, and the final wasn't a test, but a paper that only had to be 550 words! I got an A! Take his class!
Mendoza's Geography Lab was incredibly easy. His lab is supposed to be about 3 1/2 hours, but was so easy, the room was empty within an hour and 1/2. No homework or tests, but super easy 5pt quizzes on reading at the beginning of each class. The in-class work can be done with a group, which makes it even easier. The book WILL be used every class.
Professor Mendoza is very passionate about his teaching and keeps you engaged the whole class. Two quizzes, two 550 word papers, and one final. make sure to take clear notes throughout his lectures because his powerpoints can sometimes be a little vague but overall the class is an easy A.
Not a tough class. Just do the work and youll be fine, even then hes pretty cool about grading and tests
He really inspired me to look into Physical Geography more. I loved his passion for his class. One of the funniest most kind spirited professors I have had in college!
He is a nice professor sometimes. Does not always take role but, when he does you get points. He has 2 writing papers and lets you pick your own topics from certain chapters and has a total of around 4 tests. Overall it is not a bad class but, if you definitely want something more entertaining maybe he is not your correct professor choice.
I took Professor Mendozas class and lab and they were both great. Hes very clear on what will be on tests since he doesnt give study guides, also very clear on what he expects on our papers. Extra credit for going to SI is also available which is a win-win! Loved taking his class, definitely recommend.
Wonderful teacher! He really knows his stuff. There are only 2 quizzes with two typed 550 word report, really simple and very easy. He allowed a note card for the quizzes. One midterm and one final. Didn't really use the book much, but its handy. Lectures are powerpoint. take good notes and you'll pass!! gives points for attendance. his lab helps
He is a good professor. Attendance is a large portion of your grade, so I wouldn't miss class. Lecture is Power Point based and he knows his stuff. If you attend class and do the projects as assigned you'll do fine. Attending the SI class is extremely helpful and he gives extra credit points for attending.
Truly a great professor. His lectures are amazing and he's very funny. I like how he's honest. Attend the SI sessions to earn extra credit. The sessions are also extremely helpful. I love this professor and I would definitely take him again.
I've taken his lecture and lab. He's a really great teacher, he loves what he does, he is very helpful when you need help. just do the work and you will be fine!
great professor, wants students to succeed, & passionate yet thinks gas must be free bc when he cancels class he wont send an email
He knows what he is talking about but it just goes on forever. Sometimes he even seems sarcastic/mean and makes me feel stupid for not knowing something about the class already. That is why I am taking this class! To learn! Take it with someone else.
I took him last semester and he goes off on tangents about political topics which is completely unrelated to the class. He is overly passionate about this subject to the point where he makes his students feel stupid about not knowing the material; especially when he singles students out.
Never again. Take something else. Just made me feel stupid for not knowing what he thought the right answer was.
Passionate ab material. his humor is not for everyone so if u take everything seriously, cant tell when sarcasm is used, and just dont get dry humor be aware but dont let that stop you. class is easy and lectures arent a drag to sit through. he cares and wants u to succeed and it shows. one of the best professors tbh he's set the bar high up for me
Two written reports for the entire semester (EASY). TAKE NOTES - he never uploads the lecture slides to Canvas nor does he provide study guides. He takes attendance randomly, but u don't know which day, so attend everyday. If he likes the class he might cut u some slack on the final. ATTEND SI FOR EXTRA CREDIT! Boring class if ur not a geo major.
If you need a science class, I highly recommend. 1st quiz we had a notecard. Midterm was takehome, but essay was in class. 2nd Quiz was double the points for our report, so no 2nd quiz. Final we had a notecard. If you go to SI before each big testing day, youll surely pass with the sg the tutor provides. Read lab before class, or youll get a B.
I took Geo at another school with a horrible teacher and was a bit scared to take it again but Mr. Mendoza is great. He explains everything well, also what he teaches you is what's on the test, no surprises. He also gives you a chance for extra credit and you also have tutoring available. Must take!!! Great teacher!!!
I enjoyed this Professor and would recommend him for another student.
Course was above and beyond my expectations as we adapted to a sudden shift in education experience due to COVID. Very impressed in the method an online lab was developed, one that should be an exemplar for all college online labs. Prof. ensured the students stayed engaged and on task at specific times while being avail most hours via email.
Professor Mendoza is fantastic! He obviously loves his subject and cares about his students doing well. One textbook required. 3 quizes and one midterm - all simple if you read and know the material. His PowerPoints for his lectures are really well done and easy to understand. I only wish I could have taken him in person. I highly recommend!
Professor Mendoza is an okay professor. He's very into what he talks about and gives you helpful information on the lessons he teaches. One thing I didn't like was that we had to either form study groups or participate in online tutor sessions. This class is heavy reading and very little homework. He is understanding and will give you options.
Professor Mendoza is a pretty chill guy. Attendance is mandatory because he gives a mini quiz at the beginning of the labs. Lectures are on PowerPoint and easy to run through. Homework assigned by him isn't too difficult to do and they help when taking his exams.
he think hes funny and waste half of class time talking about his personal life. He tries to be funny and makes jokes. His teaching style is one i do not like. The way he talks just annoys me. I cannot learn from this teacher. His voice and how he approaches the subject makes learning difficult for me. As i feel he is a drag. I fall asleep in class
Mister Mendozas class is a lot of work for a level 100 course. Too many papers, pop quizzes and more. Although lecture material is not necessarily required to mirror the exams, Mister Mendozas material is off-base. There were many subjects on the tests that were not on the syllabus nor mentioned in class. Thank you.
Professor Mendoza is an excellent instructor. He cares about your success and explains projects for the lab and the lecture class was the same. Absolutely pleasure to have as an instructor
very old fashioned. makes you turn in work by email and one page at a time to check your work but gives no constructive advice. he just says its completely wrong or just restates the question like that helps. one time he just responded with "count with your fingers". plus he doesnt post grades or points at all. you have to ask to see your grade.
take another class if you need credit. Mendoza assigns hw based on the textbook, not relevant to the tests, and requires you to email him the assignment in order to provide feedback. however, he responds very quickly when you ask a question, but it's not worth it. def choose another class.
It is so hard to take his class online. Its run thru email and for the lab it was hard to take alone at home trying to figure it all out. Im sure he might be nice man otherwise but not everyone learns the same. I dont think he understands how to correct without repeating, or being passive aggressive. Had to buy an $80 book for a 1 unit class :(
No real lectures. Whatever learning material was provided did not help at all for the assignments or tests. Exams are poorly structured and written oddly. Took an asynchronous class and he keeps all grades to himself so you have no access to it. When it came to the end of the semester, he refused to email anyone their final grades.
I thoroughly enjoyed Professor Mendoza's Geography class. At first I didn't really understand his teaching style because he seems to go on mini tangents during class. If you're a sports fan, you'll like his tangents as he tries to relate it back to the class material. He grades pretty fairly and is pretty passionate about wanting students to pass.
Very passionate on what he teaches, but not too passionate where you get lost trying to understand what he means. Not too hard of a class so long as you pay attention to his lectures and write down some notes. Lab was intersecting too, where it was mostly written work, but easy and he helps if you need it. And he gave me gum so yeah, good class
Professor Mendoza RARELY gives homework and his lecture isn't too hard to understand. He gives 2-3 freebie absences and will excuse more IF you give him a good reason ALSO YOU DON'T NEED TO BUY OR USE A TEXTBOOK. You will pass easily if you don't procrastinate and be absent a lot. EASY A-
Mr. Mendoza, is a great professor, the lab is super easy. Every class starts with a 5 question quiz followed with a little lecture than break up in groups and do lab work. I recommend his lab if you want an easy A
Professor Mendoza really cares about his students. His online class is set up to deliver homework via email so that way he can work with each student to help them understand any trouble areas. Weekly quizzes and homework, as well as one or two reports to do. Overall great class, and I learned a lot about Geography.
I took Professor Mendoza for his Geography class and Lab for Geography simultaneously. It was a lot of information, but I learned a lot. Weekly labs, quizzes, some tests, and assignments are updated weekly. He gives great feedback, submits work through email, and really cares about his students. Would definitely take it again.
Overall good. He requires all assignments be sent to him via email, and we have to email him to see our grades. Which is weird and I don't understand the point in doing all of that but I guess it's not really a big deal. He is however very helpful with assignments and will always respond if you reach out to him.
Professor Mendoza replies to all your emails if you have any questions, which is great! I think is very weird that all assignments must be sent by email and not thru Canvas, which is difficult to keep track of your grades. I did not enjoy the system of the SI mandatory classes, the schedules were weird and classes were constantly canceled.
Professor Mendoza replies to all your emails if you have any questions, which is great! I think is very weird that all assignments must be sent by email and not thru Canvas, which is difficult to keep track of your grades. You must purchase a new book to be able to do all the assignments and labs. The book is too expensive!
Easy grader for the most part. The email thing is annoying, but it is what it is. A lot of homework but it's usual. Quizes and tests are easy, open note usually and no lockdown
He's very understanding and really knows his material. 100% would take again
Professor Mendoza is helpful, but the class setup can be tricky. Assignments via email rather than Canvas makes tracking grades difficult. The required textbook is pricey. Unstuck ai and ChatGPT were handy for study prep.
I took both his geograpy class and lab at the same time. Highly recommend doing that if you need a lab you can easily ask him questions about it also, the class aligned with the lab. Science is not my strong suit but his class were genuinely so interesting that the readings and lectures were fun. Gives many opportunities to redo lab hw or essays
As a non-native, I struggled when taking his in-person class because he talked so fast :) I would recommend you join his SI lesson; it is very helpful to review. He has a lots extra credit. No study guide for exams. Just take note and listen to his lecture, and you'll easily get A. I think online classes are much better than in-person.
Took Proffesor Mendoza in the fall of 2023 semester. Lab is very easy, he explains what we will do for the day and then do the lab with your lab partners. He checks to make sure you did it right and once it is correct, he gives you full credit and you can leave the class. His lab Geography 102LC is an easy A.
A well intentioned professor that cares for his job. However, he is archaic in his methods, using only gmail as correspondence. That means all assignments are submitted through email and grades must be asked for through email. Canvas exists only to house lectures and quizzes. Very frustrating despite his kind disposition.
Average day would be off slides and taking notes from it - has 5 tests(midterm and final) - 1 paper(2 pages or less) - does not post on canvas about anything including grades(you have to email him for it) He makes the lecture light and funny tho
I loved this class, i was initially worried it was going to be boring but e makes jokes all the time and teaches very well my only recommendaiton is to attend the si meetings because there is no study guides for the exams and also take good detailed notes. makes the topic interesting to learn, assignments aren't hard just pay attention and its an A
