Really easy lectures, no homework, and multiple choice exams! Just lots of studying and a comprehensive final, which can be deadly but not as bad as others.
i dont like the exams - too much nitpicking detail. But Arndt is cool.
He's just not teaching material. He reads from the notes basically. Need to focus less on evolution (a THEORY which is becoming harder and harder to prove) and focus more on mechanisms of animals.
He's ok... As long as you go to you study your online notes that he gives...realy..and i mean really good....you are gonna do perfect on the exams...you dont even have to go to his lectures
Very unmotivating lecturer and pushes too hard on the evolution theory.
He is one of the best professors, basically because he does the best notes. Every word he says comes right out of the notes, which will allow you to do better on exams.
Arndt is awesome!! He really helped me get through bio bc my actual lecture teacher was HORRIBLE. Very fun and easy going. Highly suggest taking him.
you'll be fine if you can memorize every single detail of his notes..
Arndt is the poop. Labs were always fun and he has that dry, stabbing sense of humor that makes people who dont understandt it feel awkward. He's the Star Wars lover type, so kinda corky, but he's really helpful and doesn't care as long as you finish the lab.
He is really helpful. He explains the material in a way that you would never forget. If you go to his lectures and read the notes, staight A
Arndt is awesome!! He makes biology tolerable and lab a fun environment instead of dreading sitting on a stool for 3 hours. He has a fun, dry sense of humor and always wears a t-shirt relating to star wars. I liked him :)
most boring and untolerable man on earth, can't stay awake and cant pass a test, good combination
He's the most boring man I've ever met! It was hard to stay awake in his lecture & he prvided no motivation to listen 2 him, until almost the end of semester when he started adding "exta" material frm chp not in his online notes to tests. he also added material 2 test that the biology dept didn't require students to know. Dont take his class pple!!
WORST TEACHER BY FAR!!!! I studied my butt off and the highest i got was a 76 %. Class average was 52 %- what do you think about that?!? DONT TAKE HIM!!!!
Terrible teacher, he adds information into his exams just to hurt students who don't come to the lecture (which is very boring and hard to stay awake in). He also adds on his exams comments such as 'careful this is a trick question'. He wants you to fail if you dont attend EVERY single lecture, don't take him its not worth it for a 100 level class!
He's an ideal lecture professor. Very clear in his notes and lecture. If you study the notes alone, you're bound to get a decent grade on the test. However, one must attend class and pay attention to his examples to go the extra mile and get an A. He's also interesting and passionate about Biology.
Good guy. His notes are pretty straight forward, however you must study each and every detail in those notes. Arndt is ALL ABOUT details on his exams, which are pretty tough. Go to class because he likes to add in a lot of extra stuff.
DONT TAKE HIS CLASS!!He's the worse prfsor ever. Although his notes r clear, if u dont attend the class u're scrwed. If you do attend the class, its so borin that u fall asleep, miss notes&u're scrwed!& if ur not as passionate abt bio as him, u're scrswd!Plus, he tries2 mess with ur mind by sayin stuff like "trick question" on exam.AVOID HIS CLASS!!
Boring as hell. Plus he tries to trick you a lot on his tests. But if you go to his lectures and kinda pay attention and read his notes, you could probably pass his class without ever cracking open the book. If you want an A, take another teacher.
He is a good Prof. He reviewed all the info. that we need to know and also covered x-tra materials to encourage students to attend the class. His lecture was concise and clear and he faithfully responds to all the Qns. Exams were okay if you attend all the class and studied the lecture note.
Pretty cool teacher. Considering the mundane subject he attempts to make it interesting. Unfortunately, his lectures are strain to stay awake through. However, he provides you with the class notes so one can follow along with ease. I found there to be an unusual amount of trick questions on his tests, but overall highly recomend him as a prof.
he sticks to the subject in the class means no fun. the material in the exams will come out of no where. Half of the exam will be on guess. Also in exams you have to pick the best answer means there could be other correct answer and you have to pick the best one that he thinks is right... good luck if u take him.. i would never again
This guy sucks. He is always putting trick questions on his tests, he makes you fall asleep, and he doesn't care if you have any problems with his notes or tests. He sucks at clairfying anything, and if you ask him a question about BIO half the time his answer is "I don't know." Way to go teach!
Dude I highly recommend DO NOT! take this class! I studied my ass off I swear and did not get a decent grade.
DO NOT, DO NOT, DO NOT take him, you will regret it! I have never studied so hard in my life, seriously, and the tests are still impossible to get an A on. I got an A in bio103, and that teacher is known for having hard exams. I havent gotten over an 86 on any of my exams w/ this guy, so... Don't do it!
Tests are based on class lectures. If you do not want to go to class or you want to sleep in class, then this one isn't for you. He gives you his notes - What more could you want? If you need help he is happy to email you right up until the test. If you want an A, you will need to work for it. Lots of info. Buy lots of vitamins and coffee!
If you don't go to lectures or read his notes that he posts online, you're not going to do well on his tests. however, if you actually put some effort into the class, he does an excellent job of explaining concepts in easy to understand terms for non-majors. His tests are a bit difficult, but as long as you study the concepts, you'll do fine.
He posts notes online, but since people stopped going to class he put extra material on tests that he would teach in class. lectures are boring, although he teaches throughly, but his tests are so hard and theres so much material to memorize. The class averages are always around the 60s. No curves or extra credit. Basically, DON'T TAKE HIS CLASS.
what a bore! the only thing to keep you awake in his lectures is his interpretive-dance lecture movements for humor.. hard tests, no extra credit.. but atleast he gives you notes online to study from.
PLEASE DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS..I dont know what is wrong with him.The examz are way over tricky. You have to choose best answer from multiple choice means more than one answer could be right. His avergae grade is 67%.I took bio 103 and 104 with him.I THINK INTRO CLASSES ARE NOT SPOSE TO BE THAT HARD, THEY ARE THERE FOR US TO DECIDE OUR MAJOR.
Don't take this class!!! he doesn't know how to teach!!! come on he's a stat mayor and he's teaching bio!! doesn't give opportunities to raise grade or do better!! he drops lowest test grade of three tests. but the three of them are extremely hard, u will have to guess what to study, it could be the bok or the notes!!!
Even though he posts all the notes online you need to do a lot of studying on your own. Im not sure if going to the lectures will help bc you will be so bored out of your mind you wont be listening anyways..Take another teacher.
Actually a good teacher, ignore the comments of others on this site. the people who failed this class are the ones who didnt go to class. seriously, it was a class of 180 and about 25 showed at the lectures. dont take this class if you arnt going to attend, you wont pass. go to class, read the text the day before the exams and youll do fine.
He made everything very clear in his lectures. The notes and study sheets are available online and very well made. I studied from them completely and got As on every test. It's important to go to class, it's a lot of info and some of it can be confusing. Lots of people complained but that's because they didn't go to class. Don't make that mistake.
He's not so bad, but his lectures tend to be really uninteresting (though take in to account I really didn't like bio.) He's very knowledgable, but you'll have to work pretty hard.
i hated this class, it was mad hard, so boring, tests are impossibly hard, no chance to bring grade up if ur doing badly.
SO HARD! his tests were nuts and he picked favorites in class. he wasn't helpful and he was rude to students. WORST teacher ive ever had.
Teaching style is very hard to follow. Very confusing during lecture. However all lecture notes are posted online along with exams from previous semester along with answers. Class is skipable but still able to pass as long as you study. Once class attendance gets low, he will add little things on the exam only said in lecture.
Unbelieveably boring. just study his online notes.
A decent teacher. Sometimes difficult to understand the concepts.
he's a genuinely good guy and an enthusiastic leturer. the class wasn't hard at all if you came to class, took notes, and studied the review sheets and past tests.
Very organized teacher. If you go to class you will do well. He posts notes online to help and some practice tests. Read parts of the book for more clarification on hard material . The people who complained are those who don't show up. Don't fall behind bc everything links together. Not hardest class I've taken but I worked hard and got an A.
Very organized if you show up and follow his lecture with the notes he hands out anyone could pass this class. Make sure to read the questions on the exams carefully though. Overall easy class to get an A if you put the time in.
I was not interested in Biology, took the class only to meet my science requirement I was nervous about the professor because I read "not-so-nice" reviews now I am glad I took the class with him. Don't even need to write tons of notes, he postes his lecture notes online ahead of time and postes sample quizes from previous semesters, very helpful!
He's boring and goes off on random tangents. I never know what he is explaining.
He is difficult to understand. His diagrams are confusing.
Hard tests. Don't understand what he's saying most of the time. Very boring.
Try to avoid this professor. I've taken this course twice and somehow ended up with him twice. Boring lectures, hard and tricky tests, but... he posts all of notes online. However, I studied my butt off and still got a poor grade. He also has low class averages so keep that in mind.
I always fall asleep during his lectures. Even though his former exams are posted online, they are no way similar at all to the exams he gives out. Likes to mention Harry Potter sometimes. He is nice though.
Contrary to other comments, I actually really enjoyed his class. I think he moves at a pace that's not painfully slow, but I can see where others may find it too fast. All the diagrams are in the book and he posts his notes which are his lectures word-for-word. He's nice and though he may be boring sometimes his tests are NOT hard if you study.
Too hard for an intro class. Rambles on a lot and can be boring, but he's animated which can be entertaining at times. You really have to study and dedicate time to this class, and don't be deceived into thinking it's a walk in the park.
SO BORING!I like biology, but this class makes you less interested. The tests are hard...the class average grade for the last 2 tests were 72%& 74% out of 100 some people. He posts the notes online.Study guides are useless bc they are a bunch of questions spanning over pages of info.Gives 3 pop-quizzes&makes you stay after taking your exam for lecture
Really nice guy but it's a very demanding class. U have to put a lot of effort in if u want a good grade. He has 3 exams (drops the lowest one) and a final. He also has 3 quizzes to encourage attendance. These r really easy since he basically gives u the answers. Also gave away free points on final that helped me end up with a good grade.
He wasn't a bad professor. Lectures boring but tests aren't hard. Book is not necessary. I never cracked it and got an A. Don't waste your money.
A nice enough guy. If you take him, here are some words to live by: 1- do not bother to buy the text. 2- DO NOT**** bother with his "study guide" online. Not helpful, most of its not on the exam, and prints out nearly 18 pages long single spaced in size 7 print. 3- instead, print out the lecture notes and study those. 4- for the final exam, just lo
Nice guy, but extremely boring. I only payed attention during the first lecture, but went to every class in case he gave a pop quiz. Tests are hard and you have to study A LOT for them. He gave us free points on the final though, so I ended up with an A. Overall, he's okay, but I would try to get someone easier for an intro class.
everyone else pretty much has it right. he's a good guy, but boring. don't bother buying the text except for the lab manual, its a huge waste of money. if you study, exams aren't bad. gives you class notes online, so you don't really have to go to class except for the occasional pop quiz. overall, a pretty painless gen ed class.
He is really difficult. I like hard teachers, but he's impossible. Unless you can memorize the book word for woord don't expect higher then a C on the tests. Although the classes are boring they are important if you want to do decent in the class (aka a C). Try not to take him if you cna help it.
As a person hes okay. He tries to be fair BUT his tests are IMPOSSIBLE!!!He teaches like its a 200-300 lvl class instead of a gen ed. His quizzes are easy though.
Pretty boring but you can tell he really cares about his subject. He gives pop quizzes but they are extremely easy. He has his notes online and lectures go pretty much exactly along with them. Overall, a really nice guy and an alright professor.
Had him for 103 and 104, coincidentally. I don't know where people get off saying his exams are hard and you have to memorize text... You can get A's on his exams by using his notes alone - print them out, write down any extra stuff he lectures about. Study those (and those alone) and you will get A's. That's it...
I just had him for summer school and I'm glad I took him. I guess people are just bad at BIO and want to blame him for doing poorly. Those are probably the students that never attended class or put any effort! He practically hand feeds you the exams and his lectures are straight from his notes. Provides study guides. I got an A in his class :)
He is a very good prof. I hate science and biology in particular...but he gave interesting examples and explains everything very clearly - even a two yr old could understand. Go to lectures, that's where all the materials for the exam come from. Great prof!!!
Go to class and study the online notes and you'll do fine. Sure, a lot of dumb Mason students are going to complain about him. What do you expect? They havent flunked out yet.
Professor Laemmerzahl did a good job in teaching infectious diseases. No books were required and all the exams were based on his notes. He does require two papers but they are nothing major and are pretty simple. Overall a very professor to take this class with!
He gets a bad rap because his material "isn't terribly interesting". If you want another science.. take another science. This class WILL be boring if you're not interested in it. Posts notes online, tests are honestly easy. Lowest exam grade? Completely dropped, same with quizzes. Show up, study, get the A. Great, animated professor who tries hard!
Easy to pass! Previous exams are posted online to study from and a handful of questions come from previous exams. Posts complete set of notes online that are helpful if you missed/didn't understand something in class. Has surprise exams to keep attendance up in class that are a serious joke. No need to use the book unless you are confused.
Some may say he is boring but he's not. always makes a connection to the real world, and always willing to answer any question and will go back on material just covered. Tests are not super hard lowest sccore dropped but show up to class since there are pop quizes but they are really easy that are meant for you to show up.
All his tests questions come from his notes, no need to buy the text. Easy to do well on the tests if you study his notes. He gives 3 pop quizzes overall which are easy/no brainer questions.
All 3-hour lectures drag out and can be boring, but Laemmerzahl does a good job of keeping your attention and making the material a bit more interesting. He provides practice tests and lecture notes for students. If you study the lecture notes, you should be just fine on the exams. Great professor for the lecture class!
Gives easy tests and access to all of the in-class notes online. Gives 3 attendance quizzes and gives mostly engaging lectures. He is willing to answer questions and is approachable. Highly recommended.
If I had studied a bit more, definitely would of gotten an A in that class. DO NOT buy the book, I did not touch it at all, never even opened. He gives you all his lecture notes. The pop quizzes were at the very end of the semester. Easy class and would recommend that you take his classes.
Quizzes were hilarious but they were pop quizzes at the end of the semester which was a waste of time going to class in the beginning of the semester. Tests are simply easy. All I did was study the tests from previous years he had up on his website. I got a B overall.
Great professor who tries to make the topic interesting. Attend the lectures and study before the exams and you will pass with ease. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!
Nice guy, easy class. It's not the most challenging class to begin with, but if you don't attend you can fall behind easily. His review material for exams helped me a lot (considering I hardly ever attended class). The "pop quizzes" are hilarious and the lab was relatively simple. I recommend this class for anyone that is taking biology for gen ed.
decent but very boring, quizs were very easy all at the end of the semester
He posts his lecture notes online which is extremely helpful. Take additional notes during lectures and review the old exams he has on the website. Attendance is definitely not mandatory just study the notes and review in the book.
Crazy, funny guy. Sarcastic as anything. DONT buy the book. I rarely went to class or it would have been an easy A and science is not my thing. Take him, I am again for 104. Worth it just to see how hilarious his 3 pop quizzes are.
He puts his notes online and the are very helpful when it comes to studying foe the exams. His exams are easy, multiple choice, but you do need to study for them. He gives random very easy pop quizzes. He's not too slow paced it's bearable and I'd say for a biology teacher he's pretty easy..he's actually easier than my IB bio teacher in high school
Loved him. An easy A.
Incredibly easy teacher. Really not necessary to go to class because the tests are based straight off the notes posted online. (However, he has started using iClickers that require class attendance.) Can ramble on unrelated topics and has some funny mannerisms. Overall an awesome easy class.
Never have to use the textbook, he hates the text anyways! He is extremely easy teacher as long as you read over your notes. His test questions are directly off the notes that he posts online, no trick questions! Very enjoyable class, and he is funny at times but serious.
The best teacher out there. I wish he was teaching more biology classes. I learned so much in his class and it was very interesting. Just keep up with the lecture and don't miss his 3 pop quizzes. Read the practice tests online they are very helpful.
Such an easy class! Here is everything (and only things) you need to do to get an A: 1) MEMORIZE the notes! word for word. 2) attend class just for pop quizzes 3)Review previous exams. Attendance is not mandatory AT ALL but make sure to be there on pop quiz days. Everything he tests on comes STRAIGHT from his notes.
Easy professor, exam questions straight from the notes, no need for a text book because he hates it, 4 pop quizes but they are really easy and thats all for attendance. Def take for the A
Professor Laemmerzahl is one of the finest instructors Mason has to offer. He presented the material in a straight forward and clear manner, at the same time, he had an abundance of interesting facts and made the details as memorable as possible. I really appreciated having the notes available online and the past exams really helped in preparation
Very clear with what he will put on the test. He gives you the bare bones and not the extra bs so its easier to learn and recall the facts on the tests. He is an amazing teacher overall and I enjoyed his class!
Good Professor
Very good teacher. If you go to class, lab and study his notes and old exams you should get an A.
He explains everything extremely well. Just go to class and you'll do well on the exam. Gives an extensive study guide, study that and old exams and you'll get an A. Drops a test and gives extremely easy quizes.
AWESOME PROFESSOR, one of the best. Knows that Bio isn't for everyone and that it's a required course, so he'll work with you. The exams aren't a peice of cake, but he puts study guides of past exams online. Very good professor!
Wonderful professor! He does not take attendance but trust me--you don't want to miss a thing! He has great stories to share, and he really knows the material. Quizzes are designed to reward those who attend class. Take his class!
GREATEST PROFESSOR ever. We need more of him at gmu because other bio professors suck! He's the kinda professor if you study his notes u r all good to go!no need to read the book. hes completely against the book.his quizzes r hilarious. 1)biggest cause of death in US. A)smoking. B)Smoking. C)Smoking. D)Smoking. so can u guys answer?1 of de quiz q:)
Very interesting class. Great instructor. Explain everything very well and you don't want to miss his lectures. Exams are not so hard, just stury his notes and you will be just fine. Quizzes are the rewards for those who come to class. STRONGLY Recommended.
Amazing professor. He is very straight forward with his class and has a great sense of humor. He also seems to care about his students and whether they understand the material. You don't need to purchase the book. On the first day he said he thought the book was inaccurate and that everything would be from his notes which he has online. Take him!
GREAT PROFESSOR. TO all those 100 level bio kids. Dont take bio if you have trouble passing 100 biology. Bio isnt English or Business where you can cruise urself to a degree. If youre not bright go study something else. This Professor is awesome and unlike most other bio professors he actually cares about his students. Everyone I know loves him.
He explains everything and will help you if you need too. Not required to go to class because he posts all his notes online but sometimes he goes over things that are not in his notes. A few quizzes (extremly easy, asks like whats ur name and favoite color) and 3 exams (hard, have to study his notes).
just have to say that, I wish all bio teachers taught like lammerzahl, itd make life easier ;)
He has a great sense of humor. I bought the book but if you go to class and/or know what the notes are about you will do fine. It helps to clarify things though. The tests are pretty hard if you don't go to class but you won't fail them if you just read the lecture notes. He's very eager to help if you need it. I definitely recommend him.
A good teacher. Willing to answer questions and easy to get in contact with. He knows that Bio is a gen ed so he makes it easy for his students. The exams were easy (you should study, but. he simplifies everything). overall a really good teacher who i would recomment to anyone taking this class. pop quizzes are easy--makes jokes in his lectures...
The best stats teacher I've had
Don't take his class if you actually want to learn anything. If you just want to read his old tests and guess what he is going to put in the new ones, have fun!
In this class I actually learned the material. Extremely easy test, straight from the notes we took in lecture, so the catch is you have to attend class. He gives pop up quizzes(like whats your favorite color)he drops the lowest quiz n exam so you will be ok if you skip one. Go over his practice exams, they help alot. I hate Bio but I liked this cl
So so so so so so so boring. Whatever you do avoid his 2 + hour lecture class. Having said that, his tests aren't particularly hard, just study his previous tests and take good notes in class. Oh and wait until you see his pop quizzes.
Love this Professor!! I usually don't like Biology, but he made everything interesting. I got an A in this class by studying his online notes, attending lectures and his old exams. He cares about the students and will make an effort to help you.
durin my last semester at george mason uniersity prof lahmanzi substituetd for my biology teacher for the second half of the semester. my grade before he subbed was a high C by the end of the semster my grade was a low A 92% my grade changed to to proffesor laemmenis productive and helpful lessons
He's pretty easy. one of the only teaches who realizes that it was a 100 level class. doesn't expect much. go to class a lot of his questions are from random things he says during lecture. quiz's are awesome! makes me laugh how funny they are! over all material was pretty interesting. second time taking this class. wish i took him first time around
Great teacher definitely take his class. Three tests lowest dropped, 3 "quizzes" (only for attendance) one dropped, and a final. Really good notes posted beforehand online and they are all you need, book not necessary.
Best teacher I've ever had. Extremely animated, very humorous while still being knowledgeable and serious. Like others have said, 3 exams during the semester with the lowest grade dropped. 3 pop quizzes with the lowest grade dropped also (so you can miss one). Do not get the book, never touched it. Wish I had Arndts for every class.
Awesome bio teacher, he explains everything very clearly and makes it interesting
if you've struggled in biology before, take him! he is very clear during lecture and gives study guides/previous exams for exams. fill out the study guide and you'll do fine. he's a smart professor and is willing to answer any questions you have about bio. he's awesome!
Soooooo boring, don't take his 2+ hour class. Not particularly hard though.
Lectures arent always brutal. Grading is fair but tests can be a bit tricky. Some questions are only from lecture...
I also took this professor for Bio 103 and got good grades consistently throughout both classes. I'm a marketing major and took these for general ed requirements and actually enjoyed the class. He drops the lowest exam grade and the quizzes he gives are extremely easy, he basically gives away the answers. I highly recommend him!!!
I took his biology 103 class to fill a gen ed requirement and it ended up being one of my favorite classes during the semester! He's really into what he teaches which helps us become more interested in the class. The lowest exam and quiz grades are dropped. He gives you old exams and test reviews. I am now taking this 104 class in the spring.
Awesome class and professor! A great science general education class for the requirement. He is very clear in his instructions. He gives a study guide, and the exams are pretty straightforward if you study. Go to class for the pop quizzes. 3 exams and a final. Drops lowest exam
He is a great professor. I had him for 104 also and he is straight forward. He gives pop quizzes in class, but they are easy. There are 3 exams and a cumulative final, but they are all easy if you go to lecture and take notes. I highly recommend him.
BEST PROFESSOR!
Im bad at bio, and i didnt do too well, but im not blaming him. He is a very good teacher and likes what he talks about but sometimes it gets a little boring. Otherwise just study really hard if bio isnt your thing. If it is youll pass with flying colors.
Love this guy!! TAKE HIM. His lectures are amazing and I love his dry humor and weird actions, he makes me lol.Explains really well and provides notes but I still took notes too,it helps.Hardly used the textbook. Exams arent hard if you study for them from his notes and study guides. He drops the lowest out of three exams. HIS QUIZZES ARE HILARIOUS
BEST REVIEW HERE!!! He is very descriptive, explains concepts well, and keeps you interested (if you pay attention). I went to every class for both sessions, and never bought the book and still pulled an A+. Study what he provides for you, go to class and pay attention. Take simple notes, but def. read his provided notes too. Easy A if you try.
Very good teacher, good sense of humor, very straight forward. If you do his study guides (they take some time) you will do well on tests. DON'T buy the textbook! Posts notes online and quizzes are merely for attendance, though they will make you laugh out loud!
Very nice guy, very approachable, laid back! Biology can be a very complex subject, but he made it fun and interesting. there are 3 pop quizzes, which are super easy, as indicated below, and there are 3 exams, and the lowest is dropped. This is my second semester with Arndt, and I enjoyed it very much! Definitely recommend him!
Great professor and also very funny, take a look at his quiz questions. Need to study the notes for the 3 exams and u can drop the lowest one. Final is cumulative; just study all the old exams and u will do very well on the final. Recommand
A class in which you will only have the help of your prayers. The teacher is not clear, class notes needed to be corrected(will confuse you even more when u study for exams),the book will pretty much remain new after u take this class because the teacher only agrees with 10% of what is said in the book. He'll teach u his way so the book =/= class note
I took a 3hr once-a-week lecture with this professor and lived to regret it. It might be because of the long period or because of my lack of interest in the topics, but I found myself leaving early nearly every class. He'd probably be a fine teacher in shorter increments, so if you do take him be sure it's not a 3hr class.
I really liked Dr. Laemmerzahl; he has an great sense of humor! I did relatively well in the class with not really paying attention. Make sure to read the directions in the tests! Also, all the homework comes from the book so you'll definitely need it. Some were very tedious because he would change the data.
Couldn't have asked for a better professor for this class. I loved his sense of humor and although the material isn't exciting, he covers all of it very thoroughly. The homeworks are tedious but very helpful. His tests are half open-book/note which is wonderful, but knowing the overlying concepts is crucial.
Weekly homework, mostly easy but very tedious. Material is not exciting (and his voice isnt either), but it is an easy class. His tests are relatively easy (half concepts closed notes, half open book with problems). Attend class and take notes and you'll do fine. I highly recommend him.
Professor does not use power points which really helps. He normally does not end class early so don't count on it. Barley used the book except for the homework and tables. His notes need correcting but are helpful and found on his website. Print them out and take them to class. Tests are half closed half open notes. Take good notes for the test!
He really knows what he's talking about and he really has a passion for statistics. Notes are online so that really helps. The class gets confusing at points so you do have to study on your own. Exams seem simple but the questions are extremely specific. Not hard but tricky. Exams feature VERY specific points from the material. Great professor tho.
He's extremely passionate with the suject. Quizzes were only for attendence purposes. Exams had a lot of material and his study guides are really long so plan to study for hours. The Final had a some questions from the previous exams word for word, some re-worded questions and some new material. I'm not a Biology fan but I highly recommend him!
Professor Laemmerzahl is one of the best professors I ever had. He made the subject, Biology, so easy to understand and follow. Class will never end early which sucked. However all his exams are super easy - if you just memorize his notes - you will get an A. Do not buy the book. You don't need it. Def take him!!!
Excellent. He's very clear and easy to follow; his lectures were actually fairly interesting, which is rarely the case with statistics. Paying attention and doing the homework is enough to ace his exams, which are pretty straightforward. I initially dreaded statistics but I actually enjoyed the class.
Laemmerzahl is easily my favorite teacher I've had in college. He is so clear and so obviously passionate about what he teaches. I loved his lectures and his goofy, albeit kind of dorky, sense of humor. He's incredibly articulate and informative. I really hope to have a class with him in the future.
He is a great statistics teacher. I got a 100 on a few exams.
He's a horrible lab professor for bio 308. Expects you to be able to write ecology papers that could be published. Takes off points for the smallest things. Will take off points for grammar on paper but when you ask him what's wrong with it he says "I'm not a English professor but I know that this is wrong". Makes lab harder for no reason.
Good lecturer, easy to understand and nice guy. Advised to sit close to the front cause his handwriting is bad, but he always willing to answer question and clarify. His exams are a bit tricky, it might just seem like that due to lack of studying. Don't think I'll take him again though.
Cool guy, interesting lectures if you pay attention. It's really hard to listen to him for 3 hours though. I went to class just for the quiz points. If you just memorize his previous exams and his notes you will do fine. I just sat in the back and played pokemon on my computer all class and got an A with minimal effort.
So easy. Never went to class. Studied the night before every test and still got an A.
this professor is not really cool. Lots of things that he doesn't know, he would just say those are weird. His teaching is not really good as well.
If you pay attention to most lectures, this class will not be hard. His lectures are clear, and interesting. He posts his notes online. Tests come in two parts. The first is conceptual (no calculator), the second part is open book, open notes, open calculator. The first part is harder. He does not make you memorize long, complex formulas. Good Prof
As an accounting major who was required to take this to graduate I was pleasantly surprised. Labs and in class quizzes great grade boosters, HW was from notes and exams straight from notes, no funny business or guessing games! Recommend!
best professor ever just study his nots and you will get an A , and you do not need to write the notes he upload them for you in the black board .
Go to oral reviews even if you think you are doing well if they are offered. They go into specifics of how things are graded on the exams. Dr. Laemmerzahl sounds like Casey Casem when he lectures. He is good about answering questions and very available for questions during office hours and e-mail.
He's pretty straight forward, pay attention in lecture and recitation you should pass. His test are decant and you are allowed to use your book and notes, but don't rely on them too much! DO NOT BUY THE NEW 4TH EDITION of text book, he's super nice and lets you use up to the 2nd edition! That is where you home work will be!
Professor Laemmerzahl really knows his stuff! Statistics isn't an easy concept to grasp so if you have absolutely no background on it outside of the usual (mean, median, average, etc), then it would be in your best interest to GO TO CLASS! HIS LECTURES ARE ENOUGH TO GET YOU AN A! AND MAKE SURE YOU DO THE HOMEWORK! Wonderful professor!
Laemmerzahl's really chill and gives three exams (he drops one exam). If you go to lecture he goes over his online notes and does sample problems which really helps. The homework that's due every week in recitation is usually similar to what you see on the exams. He's kind of boringdull but concepts are easy to understand because he explains well!
This guy really knows what he's talking about, and he's good at breaking it down into plain english. You should go to class to get the participation points (in the form of the easiest pop quizzes you'll ever take), but even if you don't his notes are crystal clear and they are all you need to do well on the exams.
Biostatistics is a obviously a math heavy class. Dr. Laemmerzhal has set up this course in a way where success is definitely reachable. He pot all of hi note on line. If you are feeling iffy on a section before a test, definitely attend the oral reviews and you will be good to go.
I LOVE ARNDT. HE IS THE BEST. If you make flashcards, read over the notes, and do the study guides, then you WILL ace all the tests. Additionally, he does give pop quizzes but they are the easiest quizzes you will probably take during college. Make sure you do well in lab and remember the homework; you'll breeze the class with an A no problem!
I respect him so much! He's an awesome teacher. He had all of our notes and study guides up on his website so we could follow along. He grades his tests the day of and all questions on the test come directly from the notes. I took his class during the summer, so we had pop quizzes, but they are easy! (really easy)! Super straight forward and fun!
You will be in class the entire class period. He knows his stuff and is very interested in teaching it. the tests were based off of tests from previous semesters but NOT THE SAME tests. So some studying is required. I HATE biology and got a B+. His quizzes are free points and do the homework, I lost my A because of it.
I hate Biology, but this instructor was awesome and fair. I did not fall asleep once. He was clear and answered any and every question. The exams were hard, but he gave you all the materials needed and provided study guides. You will need the text, so please read and do the required online homework.
He made the topic interesting. Quizzes to reward attendance (he gives the answers). Online homework- NEED the book and perhaps online to get them all right. If you skip class or leave 1/2 way through (1 day class), it will be hard to understand the volume of material missed. He uses stats to do all grades so it's difficult to track progress.
Show up to class since he gives (easy) pop quizzes. His lectures are long, but thorough. The exams are pretty tough if you're not really into science, but not impossible. I thought he made biology pretty accessible. He gives study guides and old exams to study from, as well as outlines for lectures. I'd recommend him for 104.
He was good at applying the information to real life scenarios, and that's always been helpful for me. BioStat isn't a very exciting class, but he makes it alright.
I love the Laems! I'm a psych major and took him for 103 (and 104) during the shorter summer session and I couldn't have asked for a better professor. I enjoy bio, so maybe that's why it came so easily to me, but read his notes a couple times and you should be good to go for the tests which are all multiple choice. His pop quizzes are hilarious!
Took both Bio 103 and 104 over the summer with him. Be sure to print out his lecture notes before class so you can follow along. Homework wasn't hard but Mastering Bio could be a bit of a pain at times. Overall, the class was very easy. Just go to lecture, do well in lab and study for the exams and you should be fine. Pop quizzes are hilarious :)
Professor Laemmerzhal is a very helpful and nice professor. He teaches very well in class and tests yr knowledge based on what he teaches in class. He is very fair. His exams are based on what he teaches in class and the assigned homework problems . Thus, as long as u do the homework problems and spend fair amount of hours studying u will do well.
This professor is not as clear about the material as he could be and tends to dance around how many ways a problem could not work rather than giving the straight forward explanation. Being very dedicated, passionate, and attentive to people's concerns during lecture, this professor is decent with just the tangential issues that complicate things.
If you learn best by having every single facet of a problem explained to you in detail, take Arndt. If not, still take him and just don't go to class and study his notes for the tests, you'll likely get the same grade. He uses R as part of the curriculum, which made me really happy as an aspiring data scientist. Would recommend to anyone.
He's a great professor, very sweet and cute. When I went to visit in office hours tho he seemed abrupt. Isn't always available. Talks a lot- but good because makes you understand the material. Always asks if audience has questions- people don't usually ask but its nice.
Very engaging and provides numerous examples of statistical problems. If you prefer step-by-step instructions he is a good professor in that sense. Started to go to class A LOT less but his thorough notes will do just fine. Notes are very extensive but easy to follow along. Exams are half open book, half closed.
Although attendance isn't mandatory, he gives pop quizzes and those points are very helpful for your overall grade! I enjoyed his lectures and think he was a great professor.
Great Professor! do all the homework and really understand it because that is what is on your exams . Also, make sure you come to class cause although you can probably get away with just the notes, the notes were a little confusing at times and going to class helps. SUPER amazing lecturer and great for recitation! Approachable and fair.
Dr. Laemmerzahl is awesome! No textbook; he writes the material for the course and it is presented in a very clear and comprehensible way. Attendance optional but necessary if you want to do well, 3 exams with open-note sections! Recitation has weekly assignments. Put forth the effort and you'll definitely do well - I learned a lot in this class!
Ardnt's cool. Has notes online that r ez 2 follow by urself (no textbook; can skip lecture if u understand them). Lecture's slow/boring (follows notes exactly) but helpful if u don't understand the notes. Tests are short (half closed book about terminology/ideas from notes, other half open book about ?s similar to the hwk) so u got plenty of time.
Honestly, an amazing professor! Would recommend. Just come to class and do the homework, the tests couldn't be easier.
One of the best teacher at GMU! Take his class, you won't regret it! His lectures are very helpful, you don't need a textbook.
Very easy class and professor. 3 exams (lowest dropped), no textbook, one 1 page paper (not formal at all), and one final presentation. This course is the synthesis course so I would choose this one for an easy A. His notes are simple, typed up like an outline and uses those to make the exams. Memorize notes, pass test. Kind of boring dude, but hey
Nice guy, can get a little off topic and sometimes won't go over something because it's "too difficult" but he's a pretty good teacher, definitely cares about biology. Attendance isn't technically mandatory but sometimes he gives super easy pop quizzes, where you'll like have to write your name or answer questions on stuff you just went over.
Professor Laemmerzahl is great at explaining things, your only grades are from the easiest pop quizzes (write your name on a piece of paper) and 3 exams. He posts previous exams which are pretty similar to the actual as well as all of his notes. He is a solid choice if you are not that great at Bio because he makes things easy to understand.
Dr. Laemmerzahl is an amazing professor! His class is very straightforward, so if you do the work there's no way you won't succeed. His notes are easy to follow & he explains things thoroughly. Definitely take him!
This is my guy. Awesome class, lectures are a little boring but its def worth going to, pay attention and you will do well and learn everything you'll need. Awesome notes to read before tests. Overall great guy, super nice and friendly. Would absolutely take him again if I could
He is honestly one of the best professors I've had at Mason so far. I HATE SCIENCE but he made this class really interesting and bearable. He also posts notes but you need to attend the lectures to get the full feel for them. His pop quizzes are HILARIOUS and super easy! He will keep you till class ends but he does give a 10 minute break in between
Amazing guy! Lectures were funny, but not mandatory if you've had experience w stats before. First exam was wonky-didn't know what to expect. Got a 97.5 on the final- very good teacher. love his website. R program a little difficult-recit is mandatory. homework needs to be printed for recitation. notes he writes in class are okish, online better
Lectures aren't necessary if you have experience with statistics, yet they are enjoyable - he is easy to listen to and has a good sense of humor. There are 2 midterm exams and a final, so the grades are relatively test-heavy. Homework is very straightforward and provides a nice cushion to your grade. Overall, would recommend.
Interesting teaching and lecture style but notes are very clear and posted online. He's pretty chill. Homework is due once a week but it's direct and follows the lectures.
All of the notes are online, and the tests are half open note. The online notes can be confusing, so make sure to watch the examples during lecture, but it's also safe to skip lectures. Definitely do the homework, it usually takes a few hours but you have a week to do it and it is really similar to test problems.
The exam was very hard and unfair,Homework is worth only 2 point,He forced us to memorize formula, and what each sign meant,What worse is, he didn't tell us in class which one we had to memorize,Even if half part is open book, it is very hard, Doesn't give enough example in class, You only have 2 exam and 1 final, do bad on 1 and you failed
If you want to take statistics, take him!! His lectures are amazing and you will learn if you listen to him. His tests are pretty easy if you study the materials he covered and the recitation class is also helpful as well.
Professor is kind and knowledgeable. 3 exams (last exam being cumulative), homework and surprise quizzes. He doesnt take attendance. He provides with own notes on his gmu website. *You will need to get online access code ($90 to $130 depends), plus book (which I never used, rented $60), and if you need the lab book $100. Wished I knew this before
Really liked his class. Attendance wasn't necessary but there were random quizzes that he'd do to see who was coming to class. Really knowledgeable and you definitely learn a lot just by listening. You have to buy the textbook/get the Pearson lab access to do HW assignments but those were fairly easy too. Exams were easy if you studied his notes!
Best Bio Prof. His lectures went smoothly and he also gives you an online work sheet to follow along with the lecture which pretty much is like your study guide. Tests are multiple choice and we had random in class quizzes that were super easy. You also have online homework that is easy and helpful. TAKE HIM!
One of my favorite professors at GMU. He doesn't give any minuses on final grades either which was real nice (if you get a 90 that's an A!). Attend the lectures, they're pretty interesting and funny but take notes. Do well on the homework because in my opinion the homework was harder than the exams. It's easy if you already know some statistics.
He cares that people pass and does what he can to help anyone. He is easy and one of my favorite professors
DO NOT SKIP RECITATION! It's easy points. Rect stuff is basically what Dr. L gives on the exams. So if u attend and do the hw u should be fine. Also find others who took his class before, he doesn't change up his exams alot. 2 parts to the exam. Pt 1 is closed book (no real math stuff just conceptual) and pt 2 is math stuff. Open book. He was good.
Awesome professor. I highly recommend taking his class. His notes are great and his lectures are very helpful. He cares about his students and will help you with anything. The tests are very similar to the examples in his notes and the homework. There's always extra credit on the exams.
Topics aren't difficult. He tends to go off on tangents, so the notes can look disorganized. His notes online have everything he says in class, I'd still recommend to go. It won't hurt if you miss a class or 2. Hw isn't difficult, just tedious sometimes. Tests aren't ridiculously hard, but not easy too, have to know the content and do the work.
Overally this course was easy to follow, follow the syllabus you should be good. The exams are heavy; trick question to purposly throw you off! No book needed. Now for the Professor, he lack empathy for student's that reached out for help. He is insensitive to student with on going personal problems. He's very bluntly rude in emailing! The Worst!!!
Lectures were boring and he was hard to understand. There was really no need to go to class, except on test days, since he did his lectures straight from the fully-written out notes he provided for the classes. Definately not one of my favorite classes, but it was required so I did my best and I passed with a B.
His lectures are really interesting- he's probably the 1st prof to not make me fall asleep during a 3 hour lecture. There are weekly hw assignments but he gives plenty of time to do them and they're really easy. He has straightforward notes posted online, as well as past exams so it's not hard to study. 3 exams and a final, lowest exam is dropped
This professor is amazing. Show up to the lectures. Yes, they are slow, but they build off each other. I suck at math, but he made it super understandable, even after switching the class from in person to online (COVID). If too many people don't come to lectures he'll do pop quizzes. In person tests were half open note (conceptual vs math).
Arndt was a good teacher and tried to make the 3hr lecture engaging by making jokes here and there. There were random pop quizzes that were extremely easy, which encouraged you to actually show up to class for easy points. The exams were hard and the majority of us did not do so well though. Once moved online due to COVID-19, class was easy.
Very Unprofessional in emails.
A great lecturer, even for a 3 hour class. The exams were tricky, heavy, and we were tested on a lot of material/concepts (be ready to study a lot). 3 exams, lowest one dropped. All the notes and study materials can be found on his website. Use the notes to follow along. After switching to online, class got easier.
No textbook, not enough practice questions, too few grading criteria. Okay lecturer, but he tends to go on tangents too often.
He assigns too many assignments (twice a week to be exact) and he is very strict when it comes grading. Also his exam is quite hard.
professor Arndt is a solid choice but a VERY THOUGH GRADER.
Took this class to fill in my mason core for science (I'm an accounting major so I hate science), and this class was a breeze. Definitely take it if you're a non-science major. Lectures are heavy but it's expected for the amount of content given. There are two tests and a final but he provides study guides; also homework is so easy (on quizlet lol)
He is not nice! Grades assignments by a very few criteria. I am not a big fun of how he teaches as well.
It would be great if he is understanding. I found him discouraging.
He is the worst professor I have every had, very rude don't expect any type of teaching, he doesnt do anything exam has nothing to do with lectures and homework, he just want to get it over with in his recitation he ask four people to and leaves right after. if you care about your GPA DO NOT TAKE I promise you will hate everything about this class
Arndt is the man. I took asynchronous Bio 214 over the summer so I never even got to actually interact with him live, but his lectures were always enjoyable and you can tell he is a good guy. The biggest pro of taking his class is the big packet of notes he supplies, and his tests are open note. He also doesn't believe in giving minus grades.
This professor is amazing. I can only speak for the intro class (BIOL 103), but his lectures were very straightforward, and the guy is wonderfully organized and responsive to emails. I didn't read the textbook, but did listen to every word of the lectures as the exams were basically questions from the lectures verbatim. Definitely recommend!
Hes not that accommodating nor fair.. I expected since hes a math teacher to be more understanding of why we ask the questions we do instead of getting upset when we ask them.
Professor Arndt is great. the class said it would meet once a week but it did not at all. you have easy hw every week and 3 exams all open note but short time so u need to study a bit. he has no webcam that why he gives small time. you know your grade right away when submitting. everything was very clear and exams are not hard at all!
He is an amazing lecture. Most of the grade the class is base on two exams and a final exam. If you like learning about biology I will take him. His lectures are fun to listen.
I took Biostat with him online and he was so helpful. Though lectures were recorded, he went over topics in-depth and gave super helpful examples to make sure topics were understood. There are two tests and a final, which if you do recitation homework and take notes should be easy. Prof Laemmerzahl is so knowledgeable on this subject and caring!
Had him as a biology professor and he doesn't even have a background or degree in biology. not accommodating or understanding at all. Don't take this professor.
Hes awesome! you have 3 exams that are open note the whole semester each worth 125 final is 150 and online HW is 100. total 500. everything is graded by the system because its all multiple choice so you know you grade directly. very easy to follow, and he is very caring and respectful. issue is exams are 45 min and final is 1 h and 15. must study
I took his course online and over the summer. All his lectures were recorded and could be watched any time before the next homework assignment was due. The lectures were very well explained and the professor explained the material in a very digestible manner, including humor and realistic scenarios to further our understanding.
Hes so bad! Literally the hw never matches the test. Everyone is literally failing his class and he doesnt even care about it. You can watch out to during office hours but hes not useful. Get another professor!
I'm pretty surprised by many positive reviews on here, because this class is certainly not easy. I have watched every recordings from the lectures, took extensive notes, I even read the pdf notes, and still did not do well on exams. The homework did not correlate with the lecture at all--there were some things which were not explained in lecture.
The recitation is very helpful, but that doesn't correlate with the exams for the lecture portion that he teaches. You can understand the homework for the recitation and still do very poorly on the exams. Watching the videos and attempting the practice exams do not help you on the real exams as well.
Easily the worst professor at George Mason University. His exams are extremely hard and his lectures are just him reading off a paper. If you want to take biostatistics, take anyone except this guy because you will struggle. Easily the worst experience I've had in a class.
Pretty difficult class and the professor is not enthusiastic, he is very dry. His exams are pretty hard and for his lectures he just reads off his notes. If you have any opportunity to take Bio Statistics with another professor, take that opportunity. Avoid this guy at all costs. Did not enjoy him what so ever
DO NOT TAKE HIM. The tests and the homework do not match up at all. His lectures are long and uninformative. The exams are online but you cannot backtrack. He is not very accessible and has limited virtual office hours. The lab and the lecture are like two completely different classes. Please for the love of god do not take this mans class.
Honestly, there were a lot of pros of the class like it was async, no textbook, and the tests were pretty much all multiple choice, taking notes was easy from his videos. Content wasn't very hard because of the homework given. But, I can't say that I enjoyed him or his teaching. Very sidetracked and takes long time to explain, had to 2x video speed
He doesn’t help students out when you ask him. He doesn’t like that students ask him questions so he wants you to ask your classmates. His exams are insane and don’t match the homework assignments. Please don’t take this professor. You can tell he’s just tired of being a professor. Please look somewhere else.
Honestly, one of the best professors Ive had. I enjoy that all homework assignments are due Saturday evenings, so I never lose track. You can tell how passionate he is about biology as it shows through his lectures. He really encourages class discussion and provides many opportunities for it. Overall, excellent choice for BIO 102
His lectures are boring and doesn’t have office hours so you can’t even ask him for help. His exams are very difficult and each question is worth like 8 points. His recitation instructors do not know what’s on the exams so your basically learning everything on your own. Tuition money was wasted. Do not take him!
Over all, wonderful professor! He is really just a sweet man. He has a tendency to get of track just little from the material, but that stuff is always on the test anyway. His study guides are very straight forward. I was very nervous to take a bio class, but this professor made it a walk in the park. The class wasn't too easy and it was too hard
Lectures are well-explained & recorded so you can watch at your pace. He generates his own notes for the class, so you don't have to worry about trudging thru a dense textbook. If anything is unclear, go to his office hours with questions prepared and he will help you! Very clear about what to expect on exams. Great prof & really nice guy!
Grading base on 3 exam drop the lowest score, 1 presentation and 1 disease summary. No comments for the presentation and did not post any grade online except the summary, which graded base on few things. He provided the outline for the summary and I followed as listed but got bad grade. Only knew the grade after he posted on Patriot.
save you gpa and do not take him!! Lectures are not informative at all, so you have to wing the homework assignments which you also have to present a couple times in the class throughout the semester. Exams are very difficult and he is a tough grader. I have noticed he has a bad attitude and makes it clear he does not care about his students.
Can easily see that he loves his job. Lectures were captivating despite personally not being big on biology. Lecture grading was simple, homework due Saturday with 3 exams, each of which are memorization, with the final being questions from the first two. Fun fact - he studied at mason 4 years after it was built. Would definitely recommend.
Just don't bother taking this guy. Take the other bio-stat professors. I have no idea why he even has any decent reviews. Save your GPA by taking someone else who is more helpful. This guy is not the nicest man when asking him questions and does not care about you. Don't even bother
If you see this guy please avoid him at all costs. I would say more about him but It's not even worth my time. Any other professor is better.
This guy is a completely useless professor and is so mean and rude to his students who ask for help. It's unfortunate that his guy even teaches this class because it is not an easy one.
Textbook available online for free. Required for hw questions. Exams are in line with HW and notes. Exams have a closed book and open book portion.
Honestly one of the worst professors I've ever had. His exams were nothing like the homework he gave or the example problems, so our class did terrible. The only good thing was that his lectures were good and easy to understand, but what's the point if exams aren't like lectures? If u could take this class with someone else, you should.
Professor Laemmerzahl personally is a pretty chill guy. The only problem is his lecture style. He reads directly off the notes that he has posted, which come directly from the textbook. He also does not round exam scores (even when the class average was below a passing score). If you can self teach, then it's probably fine, otherwise good luck.
HORRIBLE HORRIBLE HORRIBLE. Hands down the WORST PROFESSOR I'VE EVER HAD! His exams were EXTREMELY out of left field, not related to the questions he did in class or in the homework. The lectures were all over the place and downright horrendous. DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS!
Professor A was pretty straightforward. He is a tough grader when it comes to hw but with exams they were like the hw questions. He does have office hours and his lectures are important in order to understand the concept. Took him over the summer which was do-able but make sure if you don't understand ask questions! He's caring and very helpful.
Dr. Laemmerzahl made lectures about statistics so interesting and was able to give so many real world applications and examples. I was never bored in his class and enjoyed going. His tests are very similar to homework and problems from notes. His notes are straightforward and simple to understand as well. His posted notes also follow lecture well.
He grades on three exams and a weekly homework, the exams are half closed-note and half open-note, which are pretty straightforward if you study. There is not a curve, but the exams contain some extra credit questions. His lectures come straight from the textbook that he wrote and gives to the class for free. A nice prof, wants you to succeed!!
Be prepared to memorize tons of informaiton and pages, he does not also tell you what to read and what to not read.
He doesn't give homework and the tests are nothing like the lectures unless you're able to memorize 30 pages worth of information. If you ask him for any accommodation, he will say no. The class average was 50% and he doesn't put any grades in until the end of the year. Please for the love of god, save yourself the trouble. Don't take this class.
Took his class last summer and it wasn't anything out of the ordinary. He was very clear with grading and expectations just make sure you are there for any of the pop quizzes as missing them can have a huge impact on grade. Very engaging instructor.
Wonderful Professor. The calculations part of test are open note but conceptual parts are not so read through through the wonderful notes he provides. Also, make sure to attend lectures. He has a way of not making them too boring. Finish all the HWs for a unit before the test, They help a lot. He also provides very good final exam review.
he gives you notes he made that are basically an outline of the textbook, hw is easy points, and he is efficient with his lecturing. we finished content a few weeks early and didn't even have to go to class till the final. he gives a lot of study material to help you quickly and efficiently study for his easy exams.
He's very fair with what is expected. Two exams and the final. Your highest exam score will count for 30% and the other will count for 15% (Not including the final). The lectures themselves were pretty decent and I found them entertaining at times. He really brings bio into the material taught. Know when/how/why to use the different tests!!
Hes an amazing lecturer. The only issue with this class is that you will have to memorize A LOT, with no cheat sheets for exams. However, if you show up to class and just listen to his lectures you'll already have enough studying for his exams.
He is both extremely intelligent and friendly, which is unfortunately a rare combination. The final exam is nearly identical to the midterm exams, with around a third of the questions being the exact same word for word. He shuns the textbook, but I agree because he is so much better at explaining. He often says "let's not get too sidetracked."
Professor Laemmerzahl does not take attendance. He's never had to do this before, but claims that a pop quiz can be given if attendance drops too low. The professor provides very clear and thorough notes. All exams are open note. All notes must either be written or printed to be used on the exams. The professor also welcomes any and all questions.
His lectures make you wanna sleep but the class is easy if you do the HW and print out his notes. Barely went to class.
I took Biostats 214 with Dr. Laemmerzahl and I enjoyed it. Laemmerzahl just has a likeable personality, and speaks very clearly during his lectures. The homework he handed out was not too hard, and the way he worded questions felt like actual problem solving and not just random garbage. Exams weren't bad if you were prepared.
Professor Laemmerzahl's class can be hit or miss. Lectures are textbook-focused, so self-studying is key. Exams are fair but unforgiving. Struggled at times, but unstuckstudy ai and the free textbook helped a lot. Overall, not the most engaging, but doable with diligence.
He's passionate about what he teaches. I guess this class is supposed to be easy but I didn't do as well as I wanted to. He did say that most students end up with an A or B though.
I didn't like statistics coming in, but he made everything really clear. His lectures were very organized and I highly recommend looking at some of the materials in his textbook before he lectures so your familiar with the concepts. His test were pretty easy, just need to know the concepts and learn how to do the test that you were taught.
why am I spending 8+ hours just trying to do the homework on R this is so stressful and I literally cant stop crying bro. my head hurts so bad I literally cannot.
Your grade will probably depend on who instructs your lecture -- Laemmerzahl only supervises mine. I'm one of those kids who only shows for exams, but I have an A currently due to the quality of the lecture notes. Do tons of practice problems, they really help. Go to recitation if you need help!
Great professor, he knows most people aren't bio majors and makes class easy. He even ended class 4 weeks before the final. 2 tests(15%+15%), which are memorization-heavy, but everything can be found in his notes . The final(25%)was just questions from the 2 tests, with the answer choices shuffled. Easy HW worth 20%. Don't miss the lab(25%)
Stopped attending lectures and just studied the lecture notes he posted, passed with an A. The final is literally word for word exams 1 & 2 + reworded questions from them. All MC questions. Studied only the previous exams and got a 90 on the final. Take him if you can, easiest A of my life genuinely. Great professor.
You don't even need to go to class—just study the review sheets and you'll do great. Exams come straight from them, and the final is just a mix of the first two exams. Homework is light. I studied last minute and still got 90+%. Highly recommend.
I really enjoyed taking his class! His notes are a bit all over the place, but the homework definitely reinforces what you learn in class. The R sections are unnecessary in my opinion, but its straight forward if you know some coding! What he teaches you is on the exams, nothing extra. I recommend him!
Good teacher but exams were difficult.
Easiest core course i've had ever. Professor's style was exactly how I like: old school style writing on board with minimal tech involved. Some may not like his style tho. Just be ready to do around 7/8 questions in homework every week and a few hours of studying before the exams.
Old school style of class with minimal tech involvement, but does provide very good notes and review pages for each lecture. Homework is long and tedious but prepares you very well for exams. Exams are short and partially open note, and are very similar to HW problems. Tough grader for HW. Overall, great professor, but difficult material.
Great professor, hard topic. He posts full notes of class & always gives a test review! He is a bit of a yapper, but in a good way! He does give access to a free textbook. Tests are half opennote, half closednote (hard stuff come in the closed part -sad- ). He's always willing to answer questions! 12 HWs in total, 1 per week, it takes a long time.
I genuinely think he bots his reviews because I promise you no one you ask will agree with a 4 star rating. Most irrational guy ever he's just so awful avoid taking this with him at all costs. Like I seriously found religion during those exams when he'd be stomping around and moving ppl for absolutely no reason. Never again.
