Worst professor I ever had. EVER.
Definitely bring something to read!! This class only gets more boring as it goes along. Be prepared to learn the information on your own.

Incredibly easy, but quite possibly the most boring person teaching here
Had him last summer and was a good teacher. He made accounting easy to understand and related it to common sense. Tests were challenging but were just like the homework. Class was a little on the boring side, but not as boring as others I've had.

class is not that hard but Barkman is a terrible profesor. All he does in class is go over the homework from the night before in the way that will waste the most time. Buy the study guide because some of his quizzes are straight from it.

Arnold Barkman. That name sounds ridiculous doesn't it? This is the deal, the class is required, he is a **** and there is nothing you can do about it.... Except commit suicide. DO IT! DO IT! DO IT! DO IT!

The guy is so weird. Thinks he is Fcking hilarious and the sad part is that you wanna laugh at him not with him. Wears repulsive outfits at the gym, which in turn induce nightmares. The guy is strange and class is a waste of time. A SAD creature.

i think dr. barkman actually cares for what his students learn. he will bend over backwards in order to help you learn the material, ie: brings in props every day, etc. always willing to setup a time to meet outside of class. he also sets up the class so that the quizzes can only help your grade.
That previous review gave me a good laugh... thank you, I needed one. This guy is HORRIBLE! One of the three worst professors at TCU (along with Dr. Elliot for Econ and Dr. Lockhart for Political Science.)
Arnie Barkman is a good prof. His crap gets old but hes a good guy. He does the homework in class. I never study until the day before the test, and i'm probably going to get an A.
I like this guy... I don't know why everyone rates him so low. He tries to be entertaining in class and makes the subject seem very simple! His tests aren't too bad and the quizzes can only help your grade. I would take him again!
I think he is a great professor. EXTREMELY helpful and understanding, will do anything to make you understand the concepts. A very friendly and fun person. His tests are ok, you have ot study a bit but they are not bad.

Amazingly bad, this guy doesn't know how to teach whatsoever. I had the grave misfortune of taking him, and I regret every minute I spend in that class. His tests are nothing like the material covered in class, or the book. He is a poor poor teacher, and certainly not one I paid 3000 dollars to be taught by. Avoid at all costs.
Wastes the first five minutes of class each day muttering sentence fragments of random thoughts he had over the weekend. Explains things in such a simplified way that it is horribly confusing- If you are smart, you will REALLY hate this class. Not overly hard, but curveballs on lengthy tests can quickly screw you over. Buy the study guide!!! You may have to order it online, but test questions come right out of it. Most people gave up early, but if you stick with it, anybody can make a B. If you are an accounting major take him or Cobb because the others may give you a good grade but have fun in Cost when you have no idea what is going on.
I don't get all the hate for this guy. His jokes are lame, but he knows his stuff for sure. He'll drop your lowest test if you make a higher grade than it on the final, so 1 bad test won't ruin you. Study his old tests and the book examples, COME TO CLASS and there's no reason you can't get a good grade. He's much better than I thought he would be.
The worst teacher I have ever had in my life! If you are a business minor you are screwed b/c he does not take ppl w/business minors seriously, said from the HEAD OF THE DEPT...yet he is still employed at TCU and is the ONLY acct. teacher for the new general business MINOR courses next semester?! Aviod taking him...not worth the wasted time/MONEY!!
Terrible teacher. Spends more time rambling on about other stuff than teaching. Assigns homework, but barely goes over it. Had to teach myself everything and luckily got an A, but regardless avoid this class!
All these people must be idiots. Barkman was a hell of a teacher. Ten times better than Laurie Wood. You have to be pretty dumb not to make an A or B in his class. Great Teacher.

I had to get a tutor and I still do not understand what is going on. His test are so much harder than the practice test and he pulls random stuff from the book for m/c. I HATE HIM

Nice man, but horrible professor. Assumes everyone is an accounting wiz. He is hard to follow/understand, and you cannot read his chicken scratch he writes on the board. He wears dumb ties that he likes to make not funny jokes about. Going to class felt like pooring vodka on an open wound. If accounting is not your forte then get someone else.
He is SUPER hard to follow! he teaches way different from how the book explains. Don't take him unless you know how to do accounting very well.
horrible teacher. i like accounting and get it partly but the tests are hard,too long, he is useless, and so rude. he should be fired by TCU or should quit. he had to be evaluated in class by a different prof. because he is so bad! he can't get fired because of seniority so just avoid him at all costs.

Heres the deal with this guy: he expects you to read the chapters before class and then you do 2 or 3 problems a night. When class time comes he goes over these problems in an utterly and completely different way than the book and expects you to be able to translate his chicken scratch, and his tests are formatted in the way he does it, hes useless
Our Managerial class got screwed Cobb taught first 3 weeks and everyone was golden. We all got As on 1st test. Then Arnie comes and literally the only word to describe how he writes is chickenscratch. Good thing is he puts his old tests on ecollege. I only studied those test and HW probs right before tests and made at least a B. hes just weird
The most ridiculously goofy professor I have ever had, this really gets in the way of his teaching, which is not great. He explains the material in confusing ways that are hard to follow. Take another professor.
I LOVE BARKMAN! I dont know why everyone is bashing him. he is my favorite college professor so far. he is super nice and quirky. i suck at accounting and i'm making a high b. TAKE BARKMAN IF YOU WANT TO LEARN
the worst teacher to take for managerial...i think its safe to say i learned almost nothing from him...he is one of those people who knows that material but does not know how to teach it to you
I loved Barkman! His previous tests online were really helpful, and he's always willing to answer questions. Loves teaching accounting, and is willing to work with you.

Barkman is hilarious! He does a great job of explaining things from many perspectives and is ALWAYS available for extra help. I am taking him again for my additional accounting classes... Take Barkman to learn and to have a great time in class. He is a hoot!
A nice man who seems to love accounting, however he is not that great at teaching. Makes simple concepts a lot of harder than they need to be. Furthermore, the practice problems and homework set you up for complete failure as the tests are much more difficult.
Barkman is an awful teacher, he tries to explain relatively easy material in ridiculously hard ways and makes things hard to understand. He does not teach, he just throws up some numbers on the board and expects you to understand it. Unless you are an accounting major/ actually can learn the material all on your own DO NOT TAKE HIM!!!
Do not take him. The only plus is that you can get a 100 on the myaccoutinglab online for your homework grade. I literally learned everything myself from the book. hes funny but this helps none when it comes to the class. cuts corners when teaching (i.e. messy and abbreviates) which makes it hard to learn. expects too much out of students.
Do not take professor Barkman. He is terrible, degrades every student that comes into office hours unless they are getting an A in the class, cannot explain the information in a way that is comprehensible. Heard close to 10% are retaking the class because they failed.
DO NOT TAKE BARKMAN. He will ruin your semester. I took this class and failed it (along with many of my classmates), thought I sucked at accounting, retook accounting from a different teacher and made an A. Barkman makes concepts much more confusing than necessary and can't teach whatsoever. AVOID AT ALL COSTS.
Alot of unfair complaints about him. As long as you make an effort to pay attention in class and read the book for the parts you need help understanding, the concepts aren't that difficult and are explained pretty well by Barkman.
I really enjoyed Dr. Barkmans class. I think that if you do the homework problems before class (they literally take 15 minutes) and then check your work in class it really helps you prepare for the tests. There are 4 tests, which I studied a fair amount for. The material is not that difficult and if you have questions he is always willing to help
Mr. Barkman seems to have overall good intentions, but does not teach the material well at all. He rushes through the chapters & throws numbers up on the board expecting you to understand. Very misleading when telling you what to study for the tests. This class is not an easy A or B.
awful teacher. abbreviates everything on the board. from ny. quizes are easy, but the bulk of your grade is from tests. gives you a blank sheet and asks for financial statements.
Dr. Barkman does a good job at providing real world examples and explaining the material, but his tests are extremely difficult. Questions are poorly worded and do not make chronological sense. Just b/c you didn't go over it in class doesn't mean it won't be on the test. I went over all HW (book and online), aced all quizzes and have managed a D.
DO NOT TAKE HIM! Type of teacher where you either get him or you don't. Lowest grades on last three tests were 17, 25, and 30. He's very arrogant and office hours aren't helpful. Keep up with online hw's!!
I don't know what all the complaints about Barkman are about. It's accounting so it's going to suck regardless of who you take. The workload isn't too bad just keep up with the online hw. The tests are hard but that's to be expected.

Horrible teacher…you teach yourself…I had to hire a tutor…many of my friends spend hundreds of dollars on tutoring…wish someone else taught accounting to minors

I ended up with a B-, but it was WORK. I've never had such a difficult class in my life, and I'm typically a minimal effort all A student. Do the readings and hw problems before each class. ALWAYS. And study your butt off and do the online problems. If and ONLY if you do this, you'll pass the class.
Dr. Barkman is not a good professor. He continually makes unnecessary jokes in class which waste time and he essentially does not teach anything. In class he rambles and just goes over homework problem answers. He's the only option for Intro to Accounting and an A is attainable, but prepare to teach yourself 90% of the material.
I don't know if Barkman is even teaching next semester, but if he is STAY AWAY. Typically when I see poorly rated teachers I think to myself "I can manage." Unless you already grasp accounting before this class, you will struggle. Tests are much more difficult than homework. He hardly teaches. Just be prepared to teach yourself.
