STAY AWAY FROM THIS CLASS. I never leave ratings on this site but I need to warn people. He is a very bad teacher, and does not care to explain or meet with you outside of class. You have to read his text book and it is just as confusing as his lectures. He is the worst professor I have ever had.

I really don't want to be mean but drop this class if at all possible!! Waaay too hard for a core class but even as a phil major it made me want to change majors. It's just math with words, not philosophy. He just talks AT you for an hour and 15 mins, no time for questions or help. Hardest class at Loyola w/ a bad teacher.. sad

He uses a book he wrote as the class's textbook, meaning that the book and his lectures are the only sources you have on the material. His lectures are confusing and complicated. It's almost like a math course. I didn't learn anything useful about Logic in this class.

Logic is a math class. Tests involve memorizing and applying formulas, don't expect different. Go to every class and take good notes, talk to the people around you. If you don't get something someone else might. Prof can be kind of boring but just approach it as a math class and do your best, you'll be fine. His rating is low but don't be scared.

Professor Vander Nat is a pretty good teacher, and Logic is a decent class to take for your philosophy requirement at Loyola. However he spends maybe only 10% of the class teaching, the rest is him repeating sentences and talking about logic in a way that doesn't make any sense. He gives you the HW answers but the exams make no sense which sucks.

One of the easiest classes I've taken! Went to maybe four classes, learned the material the night the hw was due, reviewed the day of the exam, and secured an A- ! He's a bit boring, but is really good at reiterating key concepts. Homework is due every class at 11:59 pm but not difficult at all and outlines each assignment and exam well.

As someone who is not into philosophy, I'm really glad I took this class to get my phil core out of the way. It's a pretty easy class. HW due every class that takes about 15 minutes and can be done from the book. Lectures were dry + somewhat hard to follow so I felt like I taught myself a lot, but the material is pretty straight forward so not bad.

This course was ridiculously hard and so boring. He is so monotone and repetitive, as well as such a slow talker. Everything is so detail oriented and one little mistake can screw up your whole answer. The homework is hard and confusing and is graded for accuracy. The class itself is terribly boring, unnecessarily nuanced, and unapplicable to life (and he doesn't make it much better). You can tell he's well-meaning, knowledgable, and caring but his explanations are so lengthy and exhaustive it's sometimes difficult to follow. A good professor, to which his tests and the entirity of the class are just logical proofs. He makes it quite digestable, though, as long as you pay attention to the important bits (he can go on tangents quite a bit). Not a hard class if you can put everything together in your head, which is just philosophy. More math than theoretics though.
