Very Very lazy. Uses transparency machine to teach instead of board. Poor handwriting and it gets all clusterd together so very hard to follow. No partial credit. Never even leaves his seat to teach. Is very fair and does make the class fun. Would be good if not so lazy. Would not use for lower Math
Cool little guy.Tells you everything you need to know.Really fair, really nice. Take the notes and go to all of your classes for a good grade.
I TOOK WALDMAN AND HAD TO DROP THE CLASS. HE IS NOT VERY CLEAR, USES TRANSPARENCIES ALL CLASSTIME AND PLEASE DON'T ASK ANY QUESTIONS. HAS HIS OKAY DAYS BUT HAS MORE BAD DAYS. HE HAS HIS FAVORITES IN THE CLASS SO WATCH OUT. I WOULD NOT RECOMMEND HIM TO ANYONE ESPECIALLY IF YOU HAVE TROUBLE IN MATH.
Made the class interesting and fun. Would definitely take other classes if he were teaching them.
Extremely helpful - Very good with relaying difficult information - Patient - Understanding of peoples struggles with math
A.J. is a great professor. He teaches math, which for many people is a difficult, scary subject. He really cares about his students and it shows. (He is also quite entertaining.) I would highly recommend him to anyone who needs this course for their degree.
Awesome at teaching.
A.J is hands down the best teacher that I have ever taken. His tests are easy, he tells you what to study and and gives you two extra credit problems with every test. At the end of the semester he takes those two problems (5 tests), and makes that a seperate quiz grade. It is impossible to get anything lower then a B in his class. Take A.J.!!!
Do not I repeat do not take Waldman for any Math class. He sits in back of class makes his favorite students teach the class. Oh and if you dont understand do not ask he will send you to the lab.
Does use a lot of transparencies, but will help you as long as you follow along. Don't waste time acting up though, cause he does have a point where he will get fed up with it. (which is fine, b/c we are there to learn after all) Doesn't have a problem having jokes or a light atmospehere. Will help you without a problem during office hours too.
I think AJ is one of the best Algebra teachers I ever had. And I've had a few because this is my third time taking the course! I would definitely recomment ANYONE take him. He makes classes fun and interesting.
Just stay under 'the radar', do his homework, participate, and everything is great! Really fun learning environment and is willing to help you if YOU JUST ASK. Don't hesitate to stop him during his lecture to tell him you don't understand.
1 word- AMAZING. if anyone says he is a bad teacher they are stupid. he is the easiest and explains things clearer than any teacher! love him.
The WORST math teacher I ever took. Unhelpful and egocentric. Seeing his nature, he probably posted all the good remarks on this site himself. If you like masochism then he's the one for you!
actually it is his SMART students who post these comments. He explains everything and is absolutely amazing.
It's 2006 and you white out your silibus and write over 40% in pen then run off copys?? Not a good start. Use MS word!!! Not very efficient at teaching remedial classes. Yes I suck at math but he expects you to do simple algebra in you head and will not work it out on the board in steps. If I were proficient in Algebra I could do that "simple" mat
He was one of the best math teachers i have ever had. Very helpful!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Very weak professor. Very biased! Dislike foreigners and he is decendent of foreigner himself. I dislike his New York strong gheto accent. Very hard test and he is not helpful. I think he should learn how to teach.
Bad professor and make stupid jokes during class. Not clear and lazy teaching. His Brooklyn accent is annoying and he is not very helpful. I desteted his teaching. Don't take him if you dislike a boring hard class and a not helpful professor.
He's a great teacher. He is very helpful. He is easy to understand and excellent communication skills. If you need help he will tutor you.
Great teacher, Just show up for class and you will pass!!!!!!!!!!
professor waldman is definitely a good teacher. whoever wrote that other garbage obviously had a bad week..or semester. i took his class in winter 06 and received a fair chance to get a good grade. the material is hard and it didnt come easy for me. i'll be taking calculus in the summer. i wish he was teaching it. see you around professor
Professor Waldman is what makes the college tick. Professor Waldman takes the time to try and teach his whole class. Professor Waldman gets an a+ in his teaching style and testing. Thank-you Professor Waldman for being for being up-to-par when I needed it. Professor Waldman is a great personal instructor.
Math can't be easy without appropriate experience that can guide you through chapters. But if you have the 'WILL', you'll definitely have to take A.J. He's the one of the professors who actually care about class. You < Math but You + A.J. > Math. Good luck
Ohh my darling AJ!! BEST teacher @ BCC. Not too much homework, tests arent bad,& he gives 3 x-credits. Unless youre completely incompetent you will pass. I took him for pre & algebra and if he taught anything else i would take him again. AJ + you = fun. He also lets you go early and HE GIVES OUT CANDY! Need I say more. LUV YA AJ XOXO
Overall a good teacher. Tests are hard & don't reflect what was taught in class, but he does show short-cuts and provides answers to the final exam to study from. He also is laid back and lets class out early. Interesting fellow. If you're horrible at math, don't take him; if you're average or better, you'll do alright. Lots of extra credit.
nhelpful, only helps people he likes. A few in class liked him, but most thought he was terrible. My advice is find another teacher, you'll do a lot better.
Terrible and terrible. Not helpful. Lazy in my point of view. His masters is not in MATH and he is teaching it. Crap! How come a college give a position to someone who has no credential for it. His classes are boring and he is a horrible teacher. I hated his class. Hard tests too.
Arnie is a great teacher. You will do well in his class as long as you put forth some effort. He is more than fair, usually lets class out early, and is a funny guy. If you have to take math at BCC take him. Hands down one of the best professors I have ever had, and by far the best math teacher I have ever had a class with!
The best math teacher ever! He made everything very easy, and gave out candy in class! He made learning algebra as fun as possible. I wish he taught the higher math classes.
Best professor around. He is caring and works with all students to try to make them understand so that they can pass this subject. He gives alot or attention as long as he believes you are trying. He is the most understanding of all of the professors that I have had. I hope the school gets more professors like him.
good teacher, will help you!!!!!!
the best teacher..... must take.....
Funniest teacher in the world. Makes class interested in what he has to say. Relates algebra to real (albeit bizzarre) life. Very clear and very good at explaining in a different way if you don't understand the first time
Terrible. I think he writes his own reviews, because I talked to only a couple of students who liked him. Treats people like a bad middle school math teacher.
same student probobaly keeps bad mouthing him because she has nothing else better to do... great teacher, gives out candy in class and will help you out and let you know what to study for......this other student obviously didnt want to learn because she spends her time gossiping and writting nast things...... find out for yourself take his class...
Do not take him, very sweet man, funny and friendly but a bad teacher. Spends a lot of time making unnecessary jokes, doesn't know the subject that well. Teaches only what you "need" to know, students leave class clueless. Extra credit opportunities to make up for his lack of teaching skills. Very, very lazy. You will pass but won't learn.
Very funny teacher, and really wants his students to succeed. This class is mostly pretty easy, but can be a little tricky to prepare for, because he tends to change the rules and expectations on you, sometimes just based on what certain people in the class want. Mostly a good class, though. Just do the homework and you should be fine.
I liked him. He was funny and teaches well. I would take him again if i could.

This guy sucks! (Really.)
do not take him if you math is a weak subject for you. He is a very nice and funny man, but not a great teacher. He goes over examples out of the text book, following the steps in the book. He does not go in detail and explain how he got to a certain point. His exams are very difficult, you need to spend a lot of time studying for this class.
Not a bad teacher and knows what he's talking about. Just pay attention and take notes and you shouldn't have a problem.
Professor Waldman is a great teacher! He is very fair when it comes to grading and gives you other ways to earn points in the course other than just exams wich is a big help!
Mr. Waldman is a great professor, he knows what he is talking about, and if you pay attention and take notes, you will do great, he is very willing to work with people and wants to help you to do your best.
awesome guy. anyone that attends downtown campus knows about this guy. excellent math teacher. crystal clears. really helps you. gives you other oppurtunities to earn points as well. gives you candy daily!!! awesome guy. 2cd year with him. teaches 3 or 4 different classes. awesome. best teacher. jokes around. his classes are a great enviroment
Prof. A.J is the ideal professor a student should have. He cares for his students. He provides every opportunity for a student to pass. There are some professor who would look @ their students as hopeless, but he holds his students in high-esteems. I am thankful for his teachings. I would recommend to choose professor Waldman for math.
OMG I love this guy! he is a great math professor! Tests come from the hw. gives you a chance to earn a good grade with extra credit points! Phenomenal teacher take him!!
I should have dropped him the first day of class; but I decided to give him the benefit of the doubt--I was wrong! Should've followed my firts instict I really struggled in his class. He does explain well and does not take the time to explain how he got to a certain point. I spend countless hours on the internet becuase I was confused in class.
u will pass even if u suck at math He is a very nice and funny man, but not a great teacher. He goes over examples out of the text book, following the steps in the book. He does not go in detail and explain how he got to a certain point. His exams are very difficult, you need to spend a lot of time studying for this class. if fail test do extra cre
I would not take him again, ever! Great as person, BAD PROFESSOR would not recomend him to anyone. I had to drop the class just like half of the people in it. Class start with more people than usual because everybody heard good thing about him, but half way through almost everybody had dropped the class.
this Professor!! I dont know what to say about him because some examples you have to figure out how he got to the point.. i advise you not to miss any classes during the middle of the semester because you be lost with his explanations of the assignments and make sure you do the hw. he say you dont have to but it will help you by getting the extra c
Great teacher and great guy. He requires a paper, a portfolio and homework examples during class on the board, by doing this it's almost to not get a C or higher. He makes class a lot of fun by playful banter between students and loves it more when it is returned. Attendance is important, but he lets you attend any other class he teaches.
Great!
Unbelievable professor!! I took MAT1033 two times before with other professors and failed. This professor was humorous, made us 'want' to go to class, and helped out extensively to ensure we understood the material. I highly HIGHLY recommend taking this professor, especially if you have difficulty with Algebra. But,"show interest!" Good luck!!
Great teacher.
he gives u plenty of opportunity to get a good grade! u must study because he isnt the most clear and descriptive teacher. he doesnt baby u, he expects u to already know things. makes jokes and gives out candy. good guy but i think he is a little fustrated from teaching so long. pay attention, do homework and study!! thats the only way to make an A
He may be funny and give candy, but his instruction is very unclear. I had to learn almost everything by working it out for myself. Sometimes I even had to get instruction from prof's online. I refused to take him for Col. Alg. FYI - I got a B. Just be prepared to work and do a lot of self-study, because you won't learn the material from him.
Great Professor, gives you many ways to pass the class other than just based on exams, teaches only what you need to know, took him for Intermediate Algebra MAT1033, and registered again for his college algebra class MAC1105
He teach so he can understand and that is not great for the student
I just got my A from Waldman to in College Alg to follow up my A in Int. Alg. If you aren't goot at Math and need at minimum a good C then take him. He gives so much extra cred outside of tests that it is impossible to not get a C or better. I only wish he taught higher than Algebra.
He's a good teacher, but he works too fast. You have to ask him to slow down but he probably wont hear you because of his noisy projector. I got a B in the class but had to work really hard for it. I recommend him if you actually want to learn something not if you want to get a good grade.
He is a fast-paced teacher, uses the book alot and gives alot of homework. The homework is not mandatory but if you want to pass you need to complete it cause his lessons are to quick. He's funny and likes to pick on people in class in a joking way so that lightens the mood. You'll get a B or A but with alot of self-effort
Prof. Waldman is a decent professor. If you want an A you have to do the non-mandatory homework he assigns. Also he teaches straight from the book so sometimes it seems as he isnt on the same level as other professors. Does offer lots of extra credit though and makes class awesome.
he is good and funny.. = )
He is funny, and nice, gives out candy to every student every day. He really likes to see his students pass his class, he gives tons of extra credit, his tests are not that hard, you just have to study for them. I highly recommend this teacher to those who struggle with math.
Okay I'm real bad at math and I got a B. He's a really good teacher but you have to pay attention and its best if you do the homework !!! He's pretty nice when he's not being grumpy. He'll joke with the class and give candy to wake us up. He's very smart at math and I think he does a great job teaching it.
OMG!!! i hate hate hated this teacher... he's goes to fast and didnt care much if you dont understand something.. math isnt my favorite subject but he mad me hate it even more... if ur not a math wiz.. dont bother taking this class me and my best friend ended up dropping out... and he favors boys..
Uses outdated handouts. Goes too quickily even though I am great in Algebra. Doesn't do reviews. Hates to repeat himself. Not helpful at all. Goes too quickly and doesn't like to go back what he has already done.
DO NOT I REPEAT DO NOT TAKE THIS MAN'S CLASS. YOU WILL FAIL NO MATTER HOW HARD YOU TRIED. HE DOESN'T GIVE THAT MANY QUESTIONS ON THE TESTS SO IF YOU MISS TWO YOU'RE ALREADY AT A "C". HE DOESN'T LIKE TO REVIEW AND GETS ANNOYED WHEN YOU ASK QUESTIONS REGARDING THE LESSON....I DO NOT RECOMMEND HIM TO ANYONE.
This Professor while knowledgeable on the subject does not take the time to explain in detail. He skips the long method of solving a problem & jumps into a shortcut leaving you confused. Become loud & irate when you question him to explain. Does not believe in reviews prior to tests except finals. Breezes through the material way too fast. AVOID!
This teacher is a nice man, and gives unnecessary assignments to help students pass. However, if you are not strong in Algebra, and would like a professor who will help you understand the concepts, I do not recommend this professor. Especially if you are going onto higher levels of math- unless you don't mind teaching yourself.
I thought he was an excellent professor! He didn't move too quickly and explained the material well; he also cares a great deal about ensuring that his students pass. I'd definitely recommend him.
ALWAYS TAKE GOOD NOTES BECAUSE HE TRYS TO TEACH US THE SHORT CUT OR AN EASIER WAY TO SOLVE THE PROBLEM. HE ALSO GIVE EXTRA CREDIT. HE IS GREAT!
I took this professor for Mac1105 here is the deal. IF YOU ARE A STUDENT WHO ONLY NEEDS TO TAKE MAC1105 TAKE HIM he is an EASY A. I mean you still have to work hard its math but its easy if you study. If you have to go into higher levels of math DO NOT TAKE HIM because he does not prepare you. I am in precalculus now and regret taking him.
I ABSOLUTELY HATED math until I took it with Prof. Waldman. He gives plenty of extra credit, and genuinely wants you to pass. He never makes you stay the whole class time, and tells you exaclty what to study for tests. He jokes around and picks on all the students so time flew by. 100% Easy A or B, and believe me I'm terrible at math.
Professor turned me from a person that thought I could never learn algebra, to a confident student in math. I highly recommend him because he is approachable, very fair, makes you laugh and he genuinely cares about his students passing.
AWFUL! Do not take this teacher, especially if you are not strong in math! He is unclear in his explanations and is absolutely not willing to help. He's obviously not interested in teaching anymore, and could care less if you fall behind. He tries being funny, but it just comes across as arrogant and rude. Avoid!
Took his College Algebra class. I had to drop it after the first week. He is rude and unhelpful! he walked away from me mid-conversation!! he is an old man who thinks hes cools but trust me is not getting any!!! STAY AWAY!!!!!
Worst professor i have had at bc so far. He makes you feel stupid and makes fun of his students. I couldnt ask questions in his class because i was scared of being called stupid. Gives 5 quizes and 4 test. be ready to take notes from the minute you walk into class until you leave. RUN RUN RUN.
I HATE math had to take all 3 prep classes in other classes I am a straight A student he made math easy for me amazing teacher he jokes around and you have to work but in the end you'll get it and be able to understand upper level math if you want a grade handed to you don't take him if you want an attainable A because you understand it take him!
Any student complaining expected an A to be given to them and not earned. Very fair tests and tells you what's on them. Lots of extra credit.
It is a hard material, but he gives many, many chances to increase your score. In the end of class he gave present for A students. Nobody failed. He is very funny. I loved this class but I studied a lot.
He was very helpful, always asked if we understood. Always had a positive attitude.
Don't take him, he gets off track really easily and make the class hard to understand. He tries to be cool. But if you don't understand math, get another professor. Even if is the last one to choose from. Nice guy, but not a really good teacher, goes all over the place with his shortcuts. Go Away!
He's an ok prof, but I wouldn't recommend him to anyone. He rushes through everything, so you are force to TEACH yourself. He can be mean/rude to some of the students sometimes. I did well on the exams, but that doesn't even matter... your final does.
YOU HAVE TO TEACH YOURSELF... He skips steps while solving problems to make it shorter, so he leaves you confused, like, "how did he get from point A to point B?" I wouldn't recommend him to anyone. He's rude too, and likes to put students on the spot.
He is an excellent professor. He gives you every opportunity to pass the class. As long as you follow the syllabus, take notes and do the homework assignments you will pass the class.
He is an excellent and caring professor. He gives you every opportunity to pass the class. As long as you follow the syllabus, take notes and do the homework assignments you will pass the class.
He's an excellent professor. Explains well the lecture and if someone doesn't understand, he has no problem in going back and explains again. His tests were what he taught in class. I totally recommend his class.
Great professor! Very funny and witty...make a boring subject like math fun. He is very helpful and caring. He'll go the extra mile to help you achieve a passing grade. He's been voted professor of the year. I've taken two different courses with AJ’s (as he prefers to be called), and would recommend anyone who wants to learn to take his class too.
I've been out of school for seventeen years, and this professor made algebra easy for me. The book is necessary for homework and practice, but he actually teaches you everything you need to know. A lot easier than following the book. I did notice that a lot of students in my class had no basic algebra knowledge and I could see their frustrations.
Great teacher! Keeps the class entertained but still sticks to the lesson. Gives lots of notes & homework but it'll all help you pass. Just STUDY & show up and you won't have any trouble
At times was unclear but he was available for extra help.
I highly suggest prof. Waldman. It wasn't until my MAC2233 that I realized how good prof. Waldman is. I literally flu trough six weeks of calculus and got an A but only because I learned algebra well. He will actually teach you everything you need to know. Start your portfolio on Day 1 and keep up with HW, you will learn algebra for life.
