An easy class, but this professor tries very hard to make it difficult.
He is unrealistic in the material that he attempts to cover clearly. I would not suggest taking him for humanitites.
This guy is a jerk. No matter what I said or wrote, I was wrong. His quizes are totally bogus. They are deliberately designed to fool you. (i.e. "which of the following isn't not untrue?") Oh yeah, and don't buy any of the books. You don't n
His quizzes are difficult if the students don't study. I studied and I did okay. I recommend that if anyone wants to take this course, they must study for the quizzes.
Study for a quiz? What a novel concept for some!! of course one needs to study to pass a test unless one has a photographic memory. He was helpful. He knows his subjects-Eng. and Hums. quite well and enjoys them. I'd take him again.
British Lit-pretty boring class. Take notes everyday. The quizzes are pretty hard, unless you read and study really good (I just study I guess that my fault). Midterm and Final are what the quizzes covered. Study the quizzes and you will totally get a A. Have to read a novel and write a 6-8pg paper
HE TALKS LIKE WINNNIE THE POOH. LOL. TIME GUYS BY REALLY FAST, BUT OVERALL HE IS JUST A WASTE OF TIME. HE MAKES NO SENSE. ALTHOUGH HE IS A FUN TEACHER IF YOU KEEP HIM TALKING. HE'S VERY AMUSING AND INTERESTING
HE PROVIDES A STUDY GUIDE. USE IT!! MOST OF QUIZ COMES FROM THE STUDY GUIDE. ACED LAST 2 QUIZZES W/O READING BOOK-USED STUDY GUIDE. GIVES WEEKLY QUIZ. MID-TERM & FINAL TAKEN FROM QUIZZES. FINAL NOT CUMULATIVE. WILL TRICK STUDENTS ON MULTIPLE CHOICE QUESTIONS. SOMETIMES ALL ANSWERS ARE RIGHT.

Arnold Webb is the reason I was able to earn my MA degree. In 1989-1990, Arnold took his own time to help me prepare for my graduate exams; for that I will always be grateful. He is a walking library, and he loves literature. We would sit in the cafeteria, and he would question me about and discuss with me topics on which I would be tested. :)

Masterpieces of Literature was a great class. I learned so much in this class!!!!!!!!! Seriously!!
Prof. Webb is a very knowledgeable teacher, but I have to admit that the course was very dry and at times, I had difficulties staying awake. However, I did learn alot in the class because I really had to study for his quizzes.
i enjoy your class, it's very interesting and i actually make connections from your lectures to my life

Alright, so honestly, Webb has a tendency to scare me sometimes, especially if the class is not responding to questions. Then he'll be all nice for a bit, and then BOOM. It's bizarre. However, an interesting teacher for English, though the first bit of the class is killer...we did a ridiculous number of summaries, in which most people failed.
VERY LIBERAL. VERY AGAINST RELIGION. Being a christian conservative was difficult in some class discussions, but he does listen to what you have to say. His books are carefully selected and I enjoyed all of them...discussion in class was decent and he is a hard grader, so work HARD!
class is hard and there's a lot of work
Good teahcer. Actually this was supposed to be a comp class but i read more in this class and wrote more in my reading class. Goes off on many tangents so I would reccomend asking if that you could talk about something instead of taking a quiz. Worked for my class.
nice guy, one of the better teachers I've had, especially considering he's not a PhD yet...selected very good readings for class...has a bit of a weird sense of humor but not too bad for English dept
Better make sure you know exactly what he wants on the research paper or he will fail you...
very boring lectures. very opinionated professor. if you're writing reflects his point of views, you will do fine in this class.
I really enjoyed this teacher! He has very strong opinions, and will put you to work in the books. Keep up with the reading and you will be fine. I recomend this teacher if you are looking to improve your reading or writing skills.
I really liked him. He was very helpful when I asked him questions. He is very passionate about humanities and made it enjoyable.
the worst class I have ever taken in my LIFE!!! Do yourself a favor and never concider him as a teacher for you to take.
webb is DEFINITELY a very liberally opinionated professor...in taking his class you must go in knowing that at one point or another he will offened you or you're beliefs!!!! and i agree...if you write papers based on HIS beliefs you will get a good grade....he DOES NOT LIKE papers written on what the student personally thinks!!!!
i thought this class was interesting, and he as a teacher is good, but as a grader is very unfair
interesting class, smart professor, LOTS OF READING! Quiz every time class meets! SO be prepared! I wouldn't reccomend it if you're taking a full load of courses! Memorize all definitions word for word, has notes for you to read off of, and must attend 3 events,no paper required for our class.
Webb is really boring, but as long as you study for the weekly quizzes, you're set in this class. There was no term paper; the class grade was basically quizzes, midterm, and final. Quizzes can be tough, but as long as you study, you'll do ok.
He lets you resubmit already completed and graded work for a better grade as many times as you'd like. Very flexible with due dates.
For a class that you want to pass, he is strict on his memorizing of definitions. Final is based off of quizzes. You will be offended in this class. He has one view and that would be his. He needs to take a theology class and learn an inkling about the religions that he bashes. Keep in mind that he he is an English major, not religious studies!
This professor is highly opinionated, but will take the time to explain his views at least. As far as the whole religious aspect of his arguments, I will continue to keep it in prayer.
He is definitely has high standards for his students. If you are looking for an easy A this NOT the class to go to. However, if you are someone who really likes English, I cannot think of a better professor to go to. He is by far the most passionate English professor I have ever had. He teaches not what English is, but what it should be.
He's an awesome teacher. The quizzes are incredibly hard, but the rest of the class is fairly easy. Apparently he is usually really strict with his attendance policy but he wasn't for us. He lets you say whatever you want about a novel you just have to able to give a reason for your thoughts. He picks some great books, too.
Good god, don't ever miss class. He is an exceptional english teacher, but he is extremely strict. Make sure your grammer and clarity are immaculate in essays. Even though i recieved an F due to attendance, he completely changed the way I think about literature and I enjoyed every single class.
He was the hardest teacher I ever had. I usually cried when I saw my test scores or quizzes. However, Mr. Webb was very nice and helpful towards his students. He is strict, but that is how employers are. He definetly help my writing improve.
Very passionate about his field LOVES literature with a purpose or lesson. His quizzes are VERY difficult, gives study sheets but they are lengthy and based purely off memorization. Be prepared to do the reading!
Professor Webb is an ok teacher. He gives you essays and a due date, and you're on your own! But like everyone said, he does love literature and is very skilled at it, although he's a bit of a "word snob" (uses huge words that most people generally wouldn't know, even in conversation) but if you need help and go to his office,he is extremely helpfu

Mr. Webb is a hard teacher! I thought it would be easy! Yeah Right! There are a multitude of quizes in which most of the class was not passing but the midterma and final are all on the quizes! I wouldn't take him again...ever
People, people, people!! We are all in college here!!! Yes this is a hard class but you are in college! Pull our head out! Mr. Webb is an amazing prof. It was one of the hardest classes that I have ever taken but I learned so much!!!!
The HARDEST class I have taken yet...but also my favorite. He is so tough but my writing improved tremendously. I do not know if he means to be, but he is hilarious. He is also incredibly smart and knows his stuff! Really nice guy. I would recommend him, becuase although I did horrible on the quizes he saw that I improved and gave me an A!
Extremely knowledgeable in area of study. Nice, elderly fellow, throwback to the days of classic college professors. Don't expect to pass the quizzes unless you study, though.
Mr. Webb is Hilarious! I dont really think he means to be though which makes it even more funny. This class was very difficult. I went into the class thinking my writing skills were above par however, every time I he return my papers they were just torn apart. Definatly made me question my writing abilities. He is very interesting to listen to thoug
He's a cool cat. Everything he says is important, he doesn't talk about pointless things. He's really funny. He expects you to read everything he gives you. His quizzes are difficult but if you read the material and the worksheets he gives you, you should do okay. He takes roll so be on time or he will mark you absent 6+ absences and you get an F.
Ask what will be on the quizes because they are not easy! Fortunately, he will usually only quiz on what he talks about during class, so I did not find reading ALL the material necessary. What bothered me most about the class was some of the content which at times could be disturbing. But he is willing to help students who ask.
He is a very strict teacher. If you take his class be ready to be bored and talk about things that he feels that everyone should know, like cyborgs. Also, he is very strict on your papers. He uses a ruler to check the margins and if you paper agrees with his thoughts on the subject, you will get a better grade, then going against him.
I took Exploration in Humanities w/ Webb over Winter term. He has quizzes daily; they are hard. All the answers for the quizzes were in the packet that is bought in the English Dept. I am going to law school & needed an A. If you talk to him, he is understandable. I went to extra concerts; it boosted my grade to an A. I didnt think it was possible!
Cons: Boring, difficult quizzes, midterm and final almost identical to the quizzes, not very clear, must attend three cultural events (i.e., plays, concerts) and write three 250-word papers on the events, and reads comic books during exams. Pros: Looks and sounds like Winnie-the-Pooh. My advice: DON'T TAKE HIM IF YOU CAN AVOID IT!!
DO NOT DO THIS to yourself!! This class is horrid. He is interesting to listen to in class & is very smart- but besides that awful!!! Does not approve of anything you write, and we read so many books in this class, it becomes overwhelming to take other classes. Quizzes were hard too. Save yourself your time & sanity, take something else.
SUPER hard and im an A student! I got a C! First C at CSUS! I used to love english until I had him.dont take him. I ONLY recommend him if you are a ENGLISH MAJOR, he is VERY SMART, i'll give him that. Main problem i had- he gave me a D on a paper about philosphy so i took it to my phil. teacher, he thought it was A material! Dont take him!
HARDEST TEACHER AT CSUS unless you are Albert Einstein himself, and even then Webb probably wouldnt give you an A. * IF YOU LIKE DITCHING CLASS EVERY NOW AND THEN, DONT TAKE HIM! he takes attendance and after 3 absences he DROPS A LETTER GRADE! rediculous...
This class requires a lot of memory. He gives quizzes once a week and they are difficult. He requires you to remember at least 19 definitions by heart, pretty much word for word. You must remember them from quiz 1 to the final. 2 Exams, they're pretty easy since they are from the quizzes. Must attend 3 cultural events and write a 1 page essay.
I'll put it simply, do NOT take this guy. No joke. Quizzes 2-3 times a week. Grades very very hard. Don't take him.
Worst class and experience. His class is the reason we all dropped out of honors. It is a ridiculous amount of work, and if you do not agree with his ridiculous views, you will not get a good grade, no matter the quality of your work. DO NOT TAKE.
Interesting teacher who will talk the entire class period. Reader responses to do for every day we meet which he grades toughly on, weekly quizzes, a lot of terms to know, therefore requires a lot of memorization.
This was the worst class I have ever taken in my life. He is a stickler for useless information and marks you wrong if you spell something wrong by one letter. one girl even got a question wrong because she did not put a dash between two words. Do yourself a favor and DO NOT take a class with him!!!
If you're considering taking a course with this instructor you should think twice about your decision! He is a stickler and a ridiculous grader! Even though his lectures are clear the content of them are ridculous! Regardless of the quality of your work, if you don't agree with his views you won't recieve the grades you deserve or want.
Worst experience ever. Misspell something and you're wrong. Forget a period and you're wrong. He doesn't engage his students in the lectures, he just talks and talks and talks. If you can avoid him, do so!
I took this class thinking that it would be pretty interesting. NEVER have I been more wrong. His quizzes are basically useless tidbits barely touched on in class, and his lectures will put you to sleep. Seriously, the man fancies himself an orator. He is not. Avoid him at all costs.
He know his stuff..and you will too..He knows the human perspective.."He is human and as he makes you learn nothing human is alien to him.....or us...quizes are hard if you do not remember everything you read or have poor recall as I do..but, he has taught me, to love theater and museums and CITIZEN KANE...also Madame Butterfly..it has been fun...
This class requires a lot of memorizing definitions. I loved the class and the content, but did not like the fact that there is no class discussion. He only lectures. VERY HARD CHoOSE CAREFULLY he will overwhelm you!
Hardest teacher I've had in my 3 years of college and its in a subject I'm good in. I work as a journalist so I must be a good writer, but I only got a 'C' in the class. Unless you have the same exact views as him, you're destined to fail. Hes super hard, tests are hard, takes roll everyday. NEVER EVER TAKING A CLASS WITH HIM- EVER.
No discussion. Only lecture. Extrememly Boring if you are not into the content. Makes you feel stupid for asking any questions. kinda rude. time to retire
he was funny. i mean not in the conventional sense. but he was really nice and helpful. if you went up to him and asked him for help he would help you. very particular about writing. grades on the harder side. but easially a passable class (hons composition)
The outcome of this instructor is really really HIGH DEMAND!!!! Learn a lot from the genesis mind of his ideas and views....Harvord Teacher.........Really!!!!!!
Very difficult but the class is really interesting. He's very funny if you have the same humor as him. He's straight to the point. There is a quiz every Monday and he's very tough at grading but the class is passable.
He made me interested in Humanities. Very funny and helpful. You don't need the book that much just read the course packet, he lectures pretty much straight from it. Quizzes are slightly difficult. Know your spelling and memorize definitions. Vague answers won't cut it. Finals are questions straight from the quizzes which he give you the answers to
I first took Dr. Webb's Intro to Humanities and fell in love with the subject. This semester I took his upper division course, Exploration in Humanities, and thoroughly enjoyed it. As a lector, he's very visual, painting pictures in your head. Easy class, simply pay attention and jot down some notes. The reading is his own - simple studying. Great!
Webb is a great teacher and you will know exactly what is expected of you. His grading is precise and fair. There is a detailed quiz pretty much every class meeting. Just review the assigned reading materials on your own(he lectures from them in class).
Many people say his class is hard, but I personally don't think it is. People this is college! If you read the packet before the quiz you will get at least a B. If you actually pay attention in class you will get an A. I really enjoyed this class even though most of the time it was boring. Dont need the book. Just look for pics for quiz online. :)
His class is OK, you can fail all the quizzes but do good on the midterm and Final and you can probably pass with a B. I just don't like how he tells us that the final is not cumulative yet he surprises you by including some information from the midterm. He's pretty tricky, but he is a great teacher!
I have to admit, never have I worked so hard for a professor in my life. He is by all means phenomenal and very passionate about his subject. I worked extremely hard for the B I had, yes the quizzes were a bit of a challenge, but if you put in the time and effort, you should have no problem. He cares about a student's success. Highly approve of him
Just study a bit for the quizzes, go to class, and you'll do fine. The first few quizzes suck, but once you get the hang of them, they're not bad. Overall not a hard class!
Some will say his lectures can drag out a little, and I would agree. Howerver, he can sometimes make it interesting and what he wants from you is laid out crystal clear. He is fair on his grading. Only thing that I would think to say that is too much is that you have to memorize FULL definitions. Other than that easy and fair class.
For anyone who intends on taking the English CSET TAKE THIS CLASS. Webb prepares you for the test greatly! Take notes and keep your quizzes. The midterm/final is exactly what is on the quizzes just in a different order. Webb was funny and would say off the wall stuff, but he was a really great, down to earth professor. I recommend him.
GO TO CLASS. If you go to class, and just always review the notebook he gives you, you will get a good grade for sure. A good amount of memorizing, but all quizzes come from the notes.
K literally, if you WANT to pass english 2000 do NOT take him. Almost more than half of the class dropped. Yes, he's a cool, funny, old teacher. But he expects a lot from his students. Bottom line, i wouldn't take him.
Did not feel like I learned in his class. He does expect a lot from the students and he's quizzes are basically long tests. He talks about weird things that are unrelevant towards anything and makes you do pointless assignments with horrible topics.
Mr. Webb is a really good teacher, I took two classes with him. he is very helpful when it comes to answering questions. His quizzes and midterm are tricky but if you study the material you will be fine, vocabulary and careful reading. You can get an A if you really put the work into it but you can easily fail if you dont.
He is the hardest professor I have ever had for English. If you do not write things the EXACT way he words them, he will mark you wrong. If you aren't extraordinary in English DO NOT TAKE HIM. I do alright because I love English but it's a struggle.
He is a tough grader, his lectures are long and dull. He wants everything to be perfect, and his tests are a joke he asks questions that do not matter towards the class content. Do not take him again, he is not good. He gets very excited of his lectures, its funny, and every one in the class falls asleep that's how boring it is.
This class wan't too tough, but a lot of people complain about him. If you read your textbook, go over your notes, and study you will do fine. I got an A in the class and had to work for it; I guess people are just lazy & whinny about working.
I've always been good at English and this wasn't my first college English class, so you might think your good at English until you take him. Unless your an English major and bleed English you will hate every minute of it. I studied for the quizzes and tests, got horrible scores all the time because the answers were not word for word what he wanted
Very precise on answers but he tells you exactly what he wants. Everything he says in lectures is what is on quizzes. Gives course notes so you don't have to take any. Must go to class to pass.
Overall easy class, he says quizes are worth 25% of your grade but he never counts them against you. Quizes are the midterm and final and he gives you all the answers. Basically just show up because attendance is mandatory. There is an 8 page final essay but he gives you a lot of time to do it and he grades it easy. Pretty straightforward teacher.
The final had nothing to do with the course & there was nothing we could do except try to write something. He likes to talk all about himself not about the assigned reading. He complained to me about the work of other students in the class. He shouldnt be a professor if he doesn't want to help those who need it.
Have to read the material to get an A, but to pass the class you need to attend class and pay attention to the lectures. There are quizzes on every book but the final is what really determines your grade. I like him as a teacher. He explained really well and answered questions, also quite funny. I would take him again.
Hardest class ive taken in a while because he is such a hard grader
Regret taking his class. If you're not an English Major, DO NOT take him. His answers must be precise and even if a word is out of order on a definition, it's wrong.
Asks very specific questions on his exams so do not doze off. He lectures the entire time so take good notes.
Every time I drove to this class, I drove without the seat belt on so I can die before I get there...
Professor Webb it's a very particular individual. He is a very tough grader, but if you work the way you have to, he will give you the grade you deserve. He is fair professor and I love the way he expresses his ideology. All my respect to him.
Professor Webb was strict but clear in his grading criteria. Pay attention, take notes and read the books and you'll do fine. Not much extra homework.
While he is straightforward with what he wants from you, he is an impossible grader. No constructive criticism. Very negative towards students and their work. Answers to his quizzes/tests must be precise or you get it wrong. Unnecessary specifications on papers that have nothing to do with the content. Would not recommend his class.
all about memorization and test answers must be word for word like his definitions
I love Dr. Webb. His dry humor made his lectures both informative & hilarious. He'd dismiss class early. The class dynamic was clear: we'd read a book, he'd lecture about it the following classes, then we'd have a quiz on the material. Quizzes were based off the lecture and handouts he made. The final literally consisted of all past quiz questions.
He is a tough grader! I have never received a grade lower than a B on all my short responses and essays. On his tests and quizzes, he wants everything word for word. If you do not want to spend 3+ hrs trying to memorize some handouts and tons of vocabulary words, I wouldn't recommend his class.
To pass HONS 1010, you need to READ. A lot. He likes to assign a lot of reading. Basically, write down everything he says, and memorize it. Study the handouts. He gives quizzes every week, and he uses the questions from the quizzes for the midterm and final. Memorize the questions (and their answers), and you'll pass just fine.
He's a tough grader! gives quizzes every week, but the good news is that he may or may not count those quizzes bc the exam questions are based on the same exact questions on quizzes. The quizzes are your best studying guide. He really knows what he is talking about and classes are more like story time. you really do gain a lot of new information.
do not even think about taking his class !
His class is very simple. Read your stuff and you pass and pay attention when he speaks.
Never read a single book, I just read the summaries on SparkNotes. Quizzes--provides info packets for every book w/ ideas & terms you need to memorize--make sure you know the packet & you're good. Quizzes don't matter--only got a couple A's, mostly B's & C's and I got an A in the class--only things that count are the midterm and the final.
Also had for HUM 3000. Expects much out of you. His motto is literally " You get what you earn." This teach is not for the faint of heart. Lots of paper given out, however, focus on studying key times, names, and facts, in his course packet and you'll get an A. He tells you what the key items are, so only works if you focus.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS. I would not recommend this class to anyone. His lectures are extremely boring and you have to pay attention to every word he says because his quizzes are based on lectures and stupid handouts that have way too much information that you don't even know whats gonna be on the damn quiz. Quizzes/midterm/final is all thats graded
No HW, Quizzes almost every Week, SPECIFICS and MEMORIZATION, Takes attendance, anything not covered in lecture isn't on quizzes/final, Lectures are sufficient to pass but highly recommend course packet and book, Know your definitions (-isms) word for word! Must do 3 cultural participation events, Great office hours so don't be afraid to see him.
This course is basically a lot of memorization. If you don't study, especially what he tells you to study, you will not pass. He offers extra credit to replace your lowest quiz scores, which happen once a week. Everything you're quizzed on is from the course packet, pictures from the book, and lectures. The quizzes are your study guides.
You really dont even need the novels. If you use the handouts, memorize the -ism definitions, and study off the quizlet you will be fine. The only thing is if you dont write the answers word for word on the quizzes he will mark you down.
If you take this class be prepared to listen to him lecture the entire time, taking notes is a must if you plan on passing. His definitions and his answers are the only thing correct for his quizzes and tests don't stray from the information given to you. His tests are based completely off the quizzes, so make sure to keep them.
Overall interesting guy, interesting material and lectures. Make sure you memorize the handouts and read the books. Your test grades will show your progress and will ultimately be your fate in this course. Pass the two part midterm and final! Each quiz is to help you memorize material, not to change your grade. Make flash cards!!
I mean okay at first I thought he is just so hard because we had quizzes every single week but then after i realized 70% of your grade is on your final and midterm for which you use the quizzes as study guide. He gives 3 extra credits that will replace your lowest quiz scores with an A. Attendance is 10% of the grade. Lectures are really heavy.
He lectures only and you need the book as he refers and tests you on paintings/pictures in the book. You take a quiz every week on his lectures and be sure to study the lectures, he wants specific answers. Sweet old man!
He talks a lot. When I took the class, no one ever read the books. We just used Quizlet to help with all the quizzes, so the majority of us got As on all the quizzes. The only reason I ended up with a B was that I did not know about the Quizlets until the 3 quizzes, which there are a lot of. The Midterm and Final exam are just the quizzes together.
Very heavy on lectures and you need to memorize things by heart. Be prepared for weekly quizzes.
Amazing professor. Articulate, kind, sharp minded. He expects you to take the time to memorize definitions, and read the assigned books. You are graded on attendance, weekly quizzes, a midterm, and a final. The midterm and final are composed of all the questions on the quizzes, so if you study those, you will do great! 10/10!
