good teacher... go to class
The ****
Great
Good teacher, does a great job teaching a huge class. Go to class and go see him for office hours. Oh yeah, and the tests are pretty hard. Do the online quizzes always!
awesome
Very good professor, the most helpful I've had yet. I actually like going to class and that doesn't happen often.
he's really great!! go and take the class!
YOU HAVE TO GO TO CLAS!!!!!
Great Professor
I have learned SO much in this class
He actually makes economics interesting to learn.
Great Teacher! Go to every class. Do the online quizzes and practice exams... they really help!
Best professor at URI he really cares about students, he likes to advise students in all majors. He helped me out and gave me a good grade also!
Very knowledgable, but watch out for his political biases.
Very unhelpful if you go into class not knowing what economics is. He does not teach economics..he talks about nothing, there is nb book and exam questions are confusing and difficult!
The exams are Soo easy just try harder. Mead critize almost eveytopic. Love the discussions, it a large class there could be 2000, so always keep up witht eh discussion. I am addicted to them
if you do the readings and pay attention in class then you should get atleast a B
Mead, is a very nice guy, and extremely intelligent and open-minded. His tests are extremely difficult, and you must pay attention and do all the work, even though he is very easy on doing the work. The class is hard, but Mead is a great guy.
Professor Meade is an excellent teacher. If you go to class and pay attention you should be in decent shape, but his readings are what will get you a good grade, and the review quizes.
Given that this class has 300 students, I beleive that Prof. Mead has proven how good of a teacher he can be. I hate organized schooling, but I love this class.
crap i had no idea how much money i was loosing by commuting to school Im such an idiot. thanks Mead you've opened my eyes
He is a great teacher and very helpful if you have any questions. His class is fun and if you do all the readings you will be fine for all his exams. Great class
He teaches a great class and talks to students like adults, not like little kids. He explains things that are relevent to our everyday lives and makes examples that we understand. Example: The economics our the tuition we are paying, and the job growth when we'll graduate. Great professor!!!!
good professor however hard class. Tests are extremely hard even though you can use the book. Very opinionated however a really good professor to take econ with as long as you're up for a challenge.
I think this class would be ok for someone with more math and ecn background. I had none and i got a D+. I put in some effort. This class is an ugly blemish on my transcript. Grade just based on exams which are very hard.
Great guy...he really cares about his students and the material he teaches. You really learn a lot about economics and is a great teacher.
This man is way too ambiguous and I would honestly like for him to start teaching the curriculum before the semester is over or I am going to get an ugly grade that I will take no blame for...you get paid to teach us. I have been taught little i see in the appropriate review quizes i have taken.
Liberal views, but backs them up. Goes off on tangents in class, you will need to read online stuff to pass exams. They are open notebook, and if you do all the assignments and extra credit, his grading is very reasonable.
Great professor, cares about his students and his subject. Very easy to talk to and his classes are interesting.
good professor and motivator. loves his job and interacting with the students. sometimes he doesnt realize that we are trying to learn economics and not master it. tests are long and quizical so its a toss up to tell u whether to take him
While I have adjusted to his teaching style over 2 semesters, I think he has been teaching this material for so many years that he has almost completely lost touch with what it would be like to be a student trying to learn it for the first time. Tests are hard because you have to think not remember.
Really hard tests. He is very interested in what he is teaching and enthusiastic.. but class seems to last FOREVER!
He is a great professor. Very understanding and cares about his students. I learned alot and would recommend him to anyone, although some people have a hard time in his class.
Don't even think about taking this class unless want to bring down a gpa. Tests are probably possible, show up to class to hear him say how "you'll go nowhere in life" and if this guy tells you how to make money ask him why he is still teaching if he knows everything, cuz he's not doing it for fun
I thought that he was an amazing proffesor, even though his tests are a bit hard. If you go see him, he will explain everything to you. He makes you think for his tests, but i think i came out of his class with a better way of thinking and find myself a better individual for taking his class.
Tests are ridiculous, every question is a toss up regardless of if you think it was right...You leave your exams thinking you did well but then you realize you failed....You can not STUDY for his exams, it does not matter how long u study for
The class is very difficult, alot of material is covered. If you go to class and pay attention you can do fairly well. Very difficult to get an A in, even with alot of effort. Mead is a very interesting professor, and going to class isn't that bad, actually interesting and you learn something. The tests are very difficult.
Awful teacher, horrible tests, you get NOTHING out of that class. It is a waste of your time and money.
Class focuses on learning and not spitting out information. Do not take if you want an easy class, this class takes work and thinking. However Prof.Mead is extremely helpful and will do anything in his power to help you. You get what you put into this class. Hard work, Asking for help when needed, and reading on time are key to doing well.
Although it was a challenging and tough course (read the readings people!), the edge was taken off because Mead is a really good guy. one of the first professors I have had at URI who truly cares about his students and wants to see them succeed in life... makes himself very available to students for whatever help/advice they need
Difficult teacher to learn from because he does know the subject matter so well, that he tends to forget that most of u shav enever seen anything like this before. But he will curve the grade up almost guaranteed.

he'll pick on you if you arent attentive... he pulls names off cards. if you get caught-****. hes a****sometimes, sometimes ok. you need a good, straitlaced prof. for the ecn basics. you actually need to know this****.. even if you arent in economics.
Great teacher, wish i still had him. His class was fun to go and interesting. If you put in the work and do the readings his grading system is very fair. Tests can be tricky, but all in all his class was pretty easy
Great teacher, he really has a grasp on the subject...wants you to learn the material..he is very challenging, yet rewarding...
Bad but sexy hair. Blows in the breeze.
Great professor fun class he will pick on you though if ur not paying attention just do the work and readings and you'll be fine but the exams do get hard also easy to talk too
he knows what he's doing
GREAT GUY...VErry helpfull....LOVES ECN and his students
Mead really is a great professor. He explains the subject matter in depth and uses very interesting methods of getting different points across. He cares about the students and wants to see everyone do well. Make sure you do the work and ALL the extra credit opportunities. He is probably the best teacher for Econ 201. I highly recommend him!!!
this class is NOT an easy A...hell it's hard to pull a B...i busted my @$$ all semester and wound up with a B+...he is a great professor with ALOT of knowledge...if you want to learn econ and get lessons on life, then take this class...if you're looking for an easy A, look elsewhere...his other downfall: hardcore one-sided liberal
Fall '05- Mead seems like a real hardass but he's really not bad. If you don't do well on a test you can TOTALLY bring your grade up by talking to him. The class is based on tests, some homework, and posting comments on WebCT- maybe not an easy A, but definately a do-able B. As long as you show up and try you'll do fine in his class.
Tough class but I learned alot. Lots of reading assignments. Professor Mead knows his stuff but won't let you get off easy on the tests. If you like a challenge and want an economics class that isn't boring this is the man to take it with.
Tough class, knows a lot about ecn but only interested in teaching you the liberal side of things, tests are verrrrry tricky. Do ALL the extra credit, you will likely need it. Do not take if you have strong conservative views-you will get very aggrivated
One of my favorite professors. He is tough, but has a lot of knowledge on economics. Very interesting class, you learn a lot of useful information that will change your perception on the world. Tests are tough but open book. Great class to take

mead how about mean
raging liberal. all he does is tell you how he feels about current(and past) policy. i went to class everyday, did all the work (even the extra credit) and didn't learn a thing...and now I've got to get a B on the final just so I can get a B- in the class.
Pretty good professor, definately knows what hes talking about. Do the work and pay attention, for the most part is interesting. You can get an easy B or hard A.
Prof. Mead is by far the best professor that I have ever had. I took ECN 201 for a requirement and loved the class so much I took ECN 202 for fun! Mead is there to help any student that wants it, not only with his classwork, but with anything they may need (like resumes etc). If you took any ECN class, take it with this guy. You won't regret it!!!!
Mead is a good teacher, but a tough teacher. I took ECN 201 with Mead and did very well.I did very well in the beginning of ECN 202 but torwards the end the exams just seemed to get unreasonably hard. Exam 3 and the final were extremely difficult and I went to all but 1 class, every reveiws session, did all the readings and assignments. Tough class
Mead is the man! His class may seem difficult but if you go to class and pay attention you can easily pull a B. Just make sure you do the assignments right away and well because they get hard and greatly help out your grade. Exams are miserably insane, so do the extra credit
Very good teacher. Challenges students to know the material. Class is difficult but not impossible. Theres a lot of information and I learned a lot more than my grade reflected.
GREAT TEACHER!If you are into slacking off this might not be the class for you but let me tell you this teacher is awesome. Hes a great guy and is extremely smart He will challenge you and its important that u do all the extra credit He made economics interesting to me and is very flexible with meeting arrangments If u want to learn take this class
This guy is awesome. He does his best to help you out even if you have a large lecture with him. Count on this guy to not suck.
Mead is amazing! Take lots of notes, do all the review quizzes/exams online, go to reviews, do all your hw. It's not at all an easy class but it is the best class i've ever taken and Mead is unbelievable. He wrote me a recommendation too and will do anything for you if you do what you can for yourself first. Take this class!!!!
Great teacher..very helpful..does not mind taking time to meet outside of class..funny..enjoys teaching. His tests are long, but mostly focus on common sense. If you go to class, the tests are not hard..and you can use your notes. Read the syllabus, do the few homework assignments he assigns, and pay attention in class, and you'll be fine.
His class is tough, his questions are the long and thought out type, material can be tough BUT he applies just about every subject we talk about to the real world and whats going on around us so it makes sense to us...he makes it interesting even when the subjects arent...and he always bends over backwards to help you anyways that he can
Might just be the best teacher i have ever had. Applys all material to real world application, challanges the mind, and requires you to think out side the box. The material is slightly difficult but extreamly helpful. TAKE THIS CLASS!
he is SOOOO hott and i LOVE him!!!!!!!!!!
Alright, this is not the teacher you ever expect any sort of support from. You spend 100 hours doing work you really HAVE to know youv done well because he wont tell you. He is brilliant, but his constant need to make students improve leaves little room for encouragement
He teaches everyone the main concepts in a real world prospective. The exams make you think and are challenging. His class is not for the easily embarrassed, but they are interesting and humorous on many occasions.
EXTREMELY hard tests.....He also likes to pick on students and won't let you answer "I don't know".....Take only if needed
Interesting teacher, relates well to students, but I thought his class was very difficult to understand, exams are quite different from what he teaches. Economics is a difficult class anyways.
took 201 and 202. will not find a better prof. at URI. Class is not easy but not impossible. Must work hard for A complete assignments and attend class a C. He is extremely approachable. Relates topic to things relevant to our future. you will learn in this class. Give extra credit has a great web CT. Had no interest in econ now an econ major
-Intimidating teacher but very helpful during extra help sessions.
EXTREMELY HARD CLASS!! (depending on semester, listen around for him, too much to type out)... great class, i learned alot and he's a fun teacher who scales allllot!...
Before taking this class this had absolutly no intrest in economics. But he does a good job making the class interesting, even though his tests are very difficult, he does offer extra credit and is more than willing to help students. If you have to take economics take it with Mead..(you probly shouldn't if you have strong conservative views)
HARD teacher. unless ur very interested in economics, i advise you not to take it with mead. although a difficult teacher in terms of exams, really relates to the students well. but nonetheless, his exams are difficult. my advice is if you ahve to take the class, go to all of the study sessions and memorize all of the practice exams
Very Interesting class if you like business and economics. He really tries to motivate students to have a passion in life. Show up for the exam reviews, and go to class and your set.
Insightful teacher. Take this class to broaden your mind. Very effective approach to economics- a must if you are interested in the subject. I took the course online. Exams make you think- just make sure to read all the material and you will be fine.
Not helpful at all and was intimidating and would call on people in front of hundreds of other students. The class and exams were extremely hard. Every week was a study class outside of the main class to help you learn the material and even after going, the material was still hard. Not sure I learned much of anything even though I went to both.
Really interesting teacher with a lot of knowledge and a lot to say. The class is easy if you can pay attention and know how to ask for help if you need it. Overall, you can learn a lot.. the easiest way to succeed is to just show up. A lot of exam questions are from previous exams.
My favorite class of the simester
a very hard teacher who calls out people in front of everyone and does not take "i dont know" for an answer.... in fact he hates that
SUCKS!!! CALLLS OUT PEOPLE IN CLASS AND DOESNT CARE IF YOU DONT GET THE MATERIAL AT ALL. DOES NOT TEACH ANYTHING AND YOU LEARN ABSOLUTELY NOTHING
Macro was a hard class. Buy the printed book he tells you about, go to class, take notes next to the mini slides in the book. Sit in the middle of the rows and don't wear any shirts that have wording on them, he will spot you out! Histarical though, will crack you up.Great guy to know for the future. Can also use all your notes and book on all exams

Good class where you learn a lot. He really makes you think but all in all- that's not such a bad thing is it? The exams are much easier if you do all of the readings but he does drop the lowest exam score. Do the work, show up, ask for help if you need it. He's interesting and approachable and doesn't let you get away with BS.
I don't care what anyone says, Mead is amazing. He's a really tough professor but if you go to class and do the practice tests, you'll be fine. He's always walking around and getting in your face... some people hate it, but it keeps things interesting. If you ever need help, see him after class or in his office hours hes a really nice, helpful guy.
Great teacher. Calls people out but it's funny. Sort of difficult but he makes economics interesting. Drops lowest exam and you only have to do 4 assignments, so it's really not bad.
i didn't even know what economics was before taking this class. mead's obvious passion for the field enabled me to learn a lot through this course. as with any class, if you're willing to do the work, think for yourself, and speak up in class, you'll do well. mead hates the answer, "i don't know" it's better to offer an (un)educated guess.
Mead is the man. Anyone that complains that he is to hard should drop out of college! He drops the lowest grade, curves fairly, provides extra help, and gives you 25 gimme points for assignments. He is an inspiring and motivating professor. If you are one of those people who thinks he's to hard, you should look in the miror and repeat after, I suck.
Mead is awesome...if you want to learn alot about economics take it with mead, if your not interested at all consider someone else. Easy B hard A if you study and read the readings.
its obvious that mead is posting all these good comments about himself because no one in their right mind would write that about mead
Nope, this is a student writing this. He's an EXCELLENT teacher-got an award for it. Useful material and you MUST attend class and offer an opinion or thoughts. Definitely makes you think and you work for what you get. I'm hardcore conservative but the class definitely left me open-minded. I STRONGLY recommend this class!
VERY very hard class. Exams are EXTREMELY difficult and EXTREMELY tricky. If it wasn't for his generous scales, most people would have failed. Mead has a passion for economics and loves what he teaches. Do the practice quizzes and go to the review sessions because this class is insanely difficult. If you're gonna have him, stay strong & good luck!
One of the better professors at URI. Very fun to learn from. Uses his own powerpoint book that you follow along with and can use on all the exams. Concepts are really taught well. Very understandable. His style of teaching was one of the best I have seen at URI and his stories are a good way to break up the class. Learned a great deal.
Really hard class. He's a tough professor. But a pretty good one. God cannot describe his enthusiasm in economics. I strongly recommend going to the review sessions and doing the practice quizzes and exams. He's a really nice guy for putting all those up and he curves our grades very high. But look out for his exams, they are very tricky.
This class is mad hard. Honestly the assignments are ridiculous, if you dont know the answer to something he rips you apart. The tests are basically all tricky questions, even when you know the answer you may still get the answer wrong. My advice stay away if possible. Hes a real nice guy but the course is just to hard.
Great professor. Gets you very interested. But the exams are RIDICULOUS. Still a very hard class. Be prepared to get your mind ripped out when you try doing the readings. But Mead is a nice guy, he has so much enthusiasm and passion for economics. This class is not for the academically weak. It will challenge your mind like no other class before.
I read these people comments prior entering this class. Guess what? He's not as hard as people said here. If you think he's hard, then -- either you don't put enough time in studying (about 7 hrs/exam is fine), or college just isn't for you. This class requires some critical thinking, but mostly common sense. And do the Practice Quizzes+Exam!!!
Professor Mead is truly a passionate teacher. He loves economics and teaching. His class isn't as hard at all. If you put time in doing the practice exams and quizzes (take notes from them, try to understand the concept of each question), go to the review sessions - you'll do fine in his class.
If you don't want to get called upon, stay low key, but if you do...sit in front. Also if he see's someone with a logo shirt or a brand written across your shirt or hoodie he will say "Hey Polo, yea I'm talking to you, tell me what you think about this question? Mostpeople say I don't know and if you say I don't Know you are screwed! He's a fun guy
The class (and Mead)come off a lot harder than they actually are.Just do the readings/ practice exams and you'll sail through the tests as long as you're of reasonable intelligence. He is pretty insightful&brutally honest. It's really quite refreshing compared to most boring, monogamous academic classes. Don't fall asleep in class, he will find you
Mead is the man, when it comes to econ. He knows his stuff, really really passionate and he will make you work hard. he is a funny, insightful and VERY intelligent person. If you go to his office hours he will help you with class work and then he will give you a few life lessons that you should take from him.
Art Mead is the man! He is my favorite teacher at URI and has made me enjoy every minute of his econ class. His teaching style is tough compared to other teachers because he actually makes you do work! whoa! But regardless I learned a lot from his class and I hope to have him in future lectures. Best Econ teacher I will ever have!
You dont even have to study for the exams if you go to class and listen to what he says you'll understand it. His exams are all taken from the book or old exams and he gives you them, so just review them and do the online practice quizzes Easy B
Professor Mead is definitely one of the best professors I've ever had. He strives to encourage his students to learn how to think critically, and he applies what he teaches in class to past and current events. His class is rigorous and does require hard work. Do all the readings and assignments, and put forth effort. He admires diligent students.
Professor Mead is definitely passionate about economics. He is very intelligent and does a good job getting the point across. But I found him to be extremely intimidating and hard to approach. He called on me in class and made me look like an idiot when I was really paying attention. I did fine in class but didn'like him as a professor.
Don't sit near the aisles - that's like asking to be called on in an auditorium filled with 300 people. He's really into the material, and the usage of examples helps his lectures become interesting. The exams are mult choice and open-book, but you have to know the concepts forwards, backwards, upside-down and in arabic in order to do well.
Professor Mead is the best professor you can have at URI. He's intelligent and dedicated to his subject & his students - no text book! He gives you all the resources to do readings and work online, & gives all the information needed for exams (difficult, not impossible.) GO TO REVIEWS!!! He's VERY approachable, but he expects diligence in return.
LISTEN I GRADUATED IN MAY 2008. I HAVE A GOOD ENTRY LEVEL FINANCE JOB IN NYC. PROFESSOR MEAD IS ONE OF THE ONLY PROFESSORS AT URI THAT PREPARED ME FOR THE REAL WORLD! LISTEN TO WHAT HE SAYS HE KNOWS WHAT THE ___ HE'S TALKING ABOUT. ESPECIALLY IF YOU WANT TO PURSUE A CAREER IN FINANCE. MATERIAL ON HIS TESTS ARE ALSO ON THE SERIES 6 AND 7 EXAMS!!!!!
great guy! if you need any help in econ just go ask him, i had him twice and now im going for a minor in econ and went to talk to him... he has a great care for his teaching ability and is very willing to help students, unlike other professors on campus. only bad thing is his classes always fill up first because he is so awesome!!!
im a solid B student art mead made my life miserable. I dreaded going to class, terrible experience.
Mead is not only incredibly attractive, but he is a very decent guy. His classes are a little difficult, but as long as you go to class you do fine. And he is very helpful if you go and talk to him. His teaching method is interesting, he ties in current events. I took him for ECN 201+202 and was happy I had him and not anyone else. Pure genius.
Prof Mead is a great teacher although he enjoys humiliation and intimidation as his style of teaching. He often selects blondes to respond to his questions, so dont sit near the aisles or make eye contact unless you are paying attention!
I'm not gonna lie, this guy was the worst professor I've ever had to deal with. He doesn't respect students or their viewpoints at all. In my experience he called out people on completely legitemate views during class and didn't even allow an opportunity for rebuttal. If you don't subscribe to his view on things, you are evidently wrong. Oh well.
He's a very hard teacher, but fair. As long as you do assignments and keep up with the reading you'll do okay. His test questions are extremely difficult because they are in depth and it's hard to pick out the question. You'll learn a lot!
Professor Mead is a great teacher. He really prepares you for the real world, especially in the business aspect. Yes, his tests are hard, but I definitely recommend taking this course with him.You only have to do 4 out of the 9 assignments and they are pretty easy. Then it's 3 tests and a final. If you do well enough you can be exempt from the final.
Professor Mead is a great guy but very demanding. Funny with good teaching style, especially in such a large class. Tests are extremely hard but his grading is fair. Many are not motivated to go to such a large class but he makes it worth it.
He thinks he knows what he's talking about, but really he blurts out wildly opinionated statements in an effort to sound controversial and thus intelligent. I had to restrain myself from calling out everything he said.
Its alot to take in during class, but if you slow down and supplement the lectures with readings, you should be fine...Tests are pretty hard, but once again, he provides plenty of opportunities to learn the material, whether it be through online material or extra sessions. He's a good guy, but kind of arrogant. A good teach. for such a large clas
Dr. Mead is a great professor; he does what too many other teachers/professor's in this nation do, he holds students accountable for what's being taught in class. If you don't understand something, go see him at his office hours. He has a strong, but rational opinion, so know that all who hate on him probably don't understand the concepts.
I dreaded going to this class after all I had heard about him, but he ended up being a really great professor. Definitely recommend this class for the experience. Tests are wicked hard, require A LOT of studying. Go to office hours and review sessions, they are more helpful than the lectures. He does a good job with such a big class.
Stay away. "Readings" and Assignment are extremely confusing and going to lectures is pointless if you cant understand the readings.
Mead makes his class harder than it needs to be. Much harder. But, from what I've heard about the other ECN202 teachers at URI, unfortunately he's prob your best bet.
Good class, keeps u awake at 9:30. Assignments are easy if u do the ones early in the semester. Test r tricky but not impossible. last unit is dry but everything else is barible. Be sneaky with ur cell phones and dont draw attention to urself if ur gonna skip later. Dont be afraid to offer opinion in lecture.
Professor Mead is probably one of the best teachers you will ever come across. Most kids complain about him because they aren't willing to work hard. He's probably one of the most realistic and intelligent individuals left teaching. He doesn't baby his students like most teachers, but encourages them to do well.
Professor Mead is one of the best professors I've ever had. He held my attention for the 9:30 class. He goes above and beyond teaching the basics. Students who really don't like him should have looked for the easiest and most boring professor they could find. Professor Mead provides EVERY opportunity for a good grade in this course.
This class is not easy, but not impossible. Test are difficult but he offers study sessions and office hours if you need help. The study sessions were a life saver. Don't sit near the aisles if you don't want to get called on. Definitely the best class and best professor I've had so far!
Take Mead, if you are willing to put in the required effort to pass a college leavel ECN class. Some of the stuff is difficult to understand, but most of it is pretty straight forward. You can easily distance yourself from the other 200+ students that don't give a damn. He provides ALL the opportunities to succeed. Great guy, interesting lectures.
This class is only difficult if YOU make it to be. Prof. Mead offers plenty of oppotunities for extra help, his office hours are very reasonable and his study sessions help greatly. Go to the study session and do the extra credit, the extra question on your exam grade helps greatly. Great Professor and class if you are willing to learn and study.
Professor Mead is, without a doubt, one of the best teachers on campus. I had no interest in Economics, but his lectures were interesting and never boring. People who are saying he is mean or rude are the people who shouldn't be in college, and put 0 effort into the class. Wonderful man.
amazing
I had mead my 1st semester of freshman year. He was by far my favorite professor, but his class was my hardest. He makes lecture INTERESTING, but it IS difficult to understand. If you are willing to put in the effort & go to class you should be fine. He offers help outside of lecture. He's funny, but sarcastic at times. Overall, a great professor!
Such an amazing, inspirational professor, really makes econ interesting. Really great guy, very helpful during office hours, and the review sessions are fantastic as well. I so want to be an econ major now.
Mead is an awesome guy. I took the class as a senior about to graduate it by far it was the best way to cap off my time spent in college. This guy is the real deal, has excellent lectures and keeps you on your toes. He dishes out a dose of reality to those that need. It was not a hard class if you paid attention. Afterall exams are open book.
He is funny at times, but such a bad teacher. All he talks about is politics, he doesn't really teach the material that you need to know. The exams are really hard; I would have to just guess on every question.
Mead is one of the best teachers at URI. He is able to keep your attention and knows how to make the class interesting and relavent to your life and future. I got alot our of this class and I enjoyed it.It take a little work to do well but DO THE REDAINGS!! and you will get a good grade. I found this class very useful.
Really fun instructor. Not a lot of assignments. Has a reputation for being hard, not bad at all if you pay attention. Time Value of Money is probably the hardest thing you'll have to understand, knowing it before-hand helped a lot, so maybe read up on that before classes start. Turn off your phones and pay attention or get ready for humiliation.
This guy will teach you how to use excel- incredibly valuable. Engaging lecture with group projects that actually have a purpose. You know why you're doing things in this class. Definitely helps you with learning how to give effective presentations. He's an excellent professor- highly recommended. Can't wait for how to lie with numbers!
The man loved his politics. But help teaching course related topics you wouldn't get by going to class. Nice guy... when he wants to be. Avoid taking this course!
Mead really knows what he's talking about and is a great guy out of class, but he flies through the material. Be prepared to study and put forth your best effort.
Picked interesting readings, kept the class on its toes, made us laugh from time to time, will put you on the spot and notices everything in a lecture hall of 350... but he definitely will help you out. Not many assignments (do the readings!) and the exams are a little tricky but passable. Final is optional if you have a certain grade- but take it!
Art is such a baller. He's on sabbatical for a little while, so for those who are idiots, you are spared. As long as you're real with him, he's real with you. Absolute OG
Great guy. Very encouraging and knows what he's doing. Interesting readings. Wish I had tried harder last year. Not bad to look at either haha.
He will pick out certain people in the class and use them as examples, sometimes in a good way and sometimes not. He's nice and helpful but don't piss him off because then he won't be very generous.
This guy --> Awesome. Inspiring, interesting, relevant, helpful, useful, important, difficult (but not impossible). As a graduating econ major, I can honestly say he's had a huge positive impact on my undergrad career, and I would recommend his classes to any person interested in learning, unlearning and relearning. Wonderful guy, wonderful class.
One of the best teachers I have encountered on this campus. Incredibly insightful and his ability to use modern examples and apply it to course material is awesome. Not an easy class at all though. Go to the review sessions and practice the study questions.
My first day of class I sat in the front row. He asked me what my major was, I said "Engineering undecided". He said, "Well, do you know that in 4 yrs, there will be a glut of engineers- so you won't be able to find a job?" He did actually apologize for his stunt in class. I was mortified and angry. But he was right. This was in 1985.
Uses modern examples to relate the concepts to their real world applications and if you do well enough you don't have to take the final! He tends to pick people at random to harass with questions from time to time but if you pay attention and read the material the class should be easy. Highly recommended if you like concepts over mathematics.
Mead is a very difficult teacher and i would suggest staying away from him if possible. He can be a fun teacher but he loves to make examples of students. He goes through his powerpoints very quickly at times, can sometimes be boring.
do the readings and you'll be golden for the tests. i got an A in the course, but it definitely took some hard work to get there.
Summer class. No extra help/study sessions. KEY: READ EVERY WORD OF EVERY READING. Range from 6-30 pages long. Approx 5 readings per exam. Exams are extremely difficult. But if you approach the readings to understand concepts and not memorize you will do well. I LOVED him and look forward to 306. I received A- and did not have to take the final.
Awesome Professor!! Probably one of my favorites at URI. He's a little crazy but once you get used to him he's the best. The exams can be a little tricky. but He has regular office hours and reviews for the exam. Come to lecture and you will do fine. If you skip lecture and sleep in class he WILL call you out. I really liked going to this lecture.
I took his online Macro class this semester. He is pretty arrogant in his responses and no matter what your opinion is, he will always make sure you know he is smarter. Easy class to get an A in, just always take the "liberal" view of the economy because if you write anything republican-toned, he will rip your essay apart.
Such a difficult course. The amount of reading required is ridiculous. He is obviously a smart guy but expects everyone to keep up with him. The questions on the exams are very tricky as well and all seem to have multiple right answers. If I had known his online class would be like it was I would have dropped it early on.
In this course he is trying to prepare us, not necessarily as Economists, but as PROFESSIONAL workers for the "real world." He will drive you hard, constantly asking questions that requires your critical thinking and occasionally offending you, don't take the latter too seriously. **Don't just do the work to get by, do MORE work to impress him.**
This class is terrible. Just sits there and lectures. Avoid at all cost and take different professor. Tests are open book but are very hard
really really really hard!
The amount of work for five classes in one. terrible
Great Teacher! He's not easy but he gives you incredibly detailed readings that actually do a good job explaining the concepts. Then he gives you practice tests that end up being almost identical on the exams. You can't slack off much but he'll teach the hell out of economics to you
Mead is one of my favorite professors at URI but this class sucked. It's just frustrating to take because just when you fix what he told you to, he gives you something new to fix. Don't take this class if you don't know excel and don't take it if you think it's going to be anything like his ECN 201 or 202 because it's completely different
Instead of teaching he stands there and rambles and expects you to learn EVERYTHING on your own. If you take this class, only take one or two other classes that semester because he expects you to do the amount of work for 3 classes. His tests are unreasonably difficult and he even admits that they are very hard and that he tries to trip you up.
Terrible Teacher. Ridiculously Hard… Unclear about everything and way way way to much reading and material. He expects you to know the most random things. Only take him if you a hundred plus hours a week to devote to his class. Especially online. I'm an A/B student and I'm probably going to get an F becuase this class is so ridiculous
Took both his econ courses, had a great year with him. Good teacher, very smart and will help you if you put in effort.
SO HARD. Do not recommend at all unless you are majoring in economics. Very unclear. Extremely intelligent professor but cannot communicate to students well. Had no idea what was going on all semester. I'm an A/B student and this was my worst grade I had received at URI (C-).
Favorite professor at URI. In addition to a great introduction to Economics, professor Mead develops students for life after college. He asks tough but important questions and helps you develop important business skills. Definitely take his class!
Good professor, helpful if you attend office hours and ask specific questions. A bit hard to understand in bigger lecture classes, however if you ask him or the TA they can explain anything to you. BUY THE TEXTS, he lets you use them on exams
Great teacher, if you want to learn about economics he is the guy for you. He is great at his job. Tests are tough but there college exams you have to expect that. Most of his material is based off of lectures. Go to his office hours, speak up in class it will help you later on.
This guy is an amazing speaker. He really inactivates you with his lectures and makes sure you're paying attention by using a sheet of names to call on people. He gives you plenty of chances to get infant of the class to talk about certain things. His lectures are literally lifesaver when it comes to learning the material. Great teacher.
His lectures are interesting and informational. If you can, introduce yourself to him, make sure he knows your name. Do the readings, do the assignments, review quizzespractice questions for your exam, and most importantly GO TO CLASS.
Economics is a tough subject, but Prof. Mead tried to make the class as realistic and life like as possible. He used current events to underline certain economic principles. It was easy to talk to him about the feedback of a test, and if you presented your logic clearly enough he would grant you that question. I thought he was very reasonable.
By far the one of the most brilliant & interesting person I've ever had the pleasure to meet! His lectures are amazing & he makes you actually want to learn & take an interest in economics. He's funny, sarcastic, smart, articulate & weirdly attractive - basically everything you want in a professor. But if you hate reading this class is NOT for you
Very smart teacher who makes class more realistic and understandable. Favorite teacher in the business school. Take him for both 201 and 202. get at least an 80 on every exam and do every assignment and you get exempt from final with an A.
Art Mead is tough but fair. He is very smart and has a passion for teaching. He makes difficult topics more relatable to his students.
Taking him for an online class and I'm ready to give up. He may be a good professor for in-class lectures but his quizzes and exams are nearly impossible to get a B on. Nothing comes directly from the book. Expects you to have A LOT of background before coming into the course, which I didn't so I'm very lost. Way too advanced for a 200-level class
This is by far one of the most difficult, unclear, and time consuming classes I have ever taken. I am an intelligent person with a high GPA and I feel completely defeated by this class. Despite multiple attempts at quizzes and discussion posts, I still feel myself drowning. The amount of reading is insane, and there is next to no positive feedback.
Had Mead for ECN201 and 202. He's probably one of the most blunt and real professors out there, he doesn't sugarcoat anything, which is good. His courses do require a lot of effort on your part, it is not an easy A. But if you manage to stay on top of the readings, and listen in class, you shouldn't find his class extremely difficult. Worth it.
Overall not a very hard class. His class is realistic and tries to apply concepts to real life. Pretty much explains everything you need to know in class. Some concepts can be confusing but if you take the time to learn them they should come to you without much difficulty. It is a decent amount of work but not entirely difficult. Also he is helpful
Great professor. Many people complain on here about how confusing he is. In reality, he isn't confusing, he just expects you to think and use your brain which is why it is considered a tough class. It's not like chemistry where you can memorize information, you need to think through situations. He explains how to do this very clearly.
Very passionate about economics. Be prepared for a lot of work outside class. If you're a marketing major, do yourself a favor and don't tell him. Will call you out in class--saying something: even if its wrong its better than saying nothing. Overall, not hard if you put in the effort.
Mead is a tough teacher. There is no way around it. Keep up with the reading!!! it is all in black and white in his textbooks that he wrote himself. Go to his office hours. Show him that you care and he will do the same. At the end of the class you will truly feel like you have a grasp on ECN. He does his job! you just have to do yours.
Tests are very tough. You need to apply the terms you learned in order to well on the exams. He's available to help you if needed.
Professor Mead is a very intelligent economist who has a tendency to act tough and mean during lecture, but if you visit him after class or during his office hours, he's kind and approachable. The biggest secret with his class is to "lean in" by answering questions and participating to earn his respect! Do the readings and fill out the handout!
So the dude is super smart let me tell you that. I hated him at the start of semester he comes off almost rude and searches for you on the class. He will call on you and embarrass you, so pay attention. I didn't do the readings and got an A-, i did however take full advantage of the handouts. Dont wear logos. He's a real standup guy in office hours
Art Mead is a really smart guy which can be intimidating. If you lean in, he likes to call it, and participate he will repay you in your grade. Take good notes based off of the handout (textbook), which he wrote entirely himself and get ready to read. He is extremely helpful during office hours. If you actually want to learn econ he is your guy.
He seems tough and harsh at first but he's nice when you meet him one on one. He likes to see a face show up at office hours. I advice you not to sit along the aisles or wear logos to class. Always have an answer and never text in class. Take this class if you really want to to learn something. His classes are cheap to take as well.
After the first class I wanted to drop out. However stick with it because you'll end up loving his class. He made the subject interesting by applying real world examples all the time. Considered switching my major that's how interesting he made it. Has a good sense of humor and his exam questions could trip you up but he's always available to help.
Very unclear, extremely long readings each week, quizzes are almost irrelevant to the readings, and discussions seem pointless. I currently have a 3.7gpa, but thats down the gutter because of this class. DONT take it.
If you want to actually learn something in college, take Art Mead for economics. He knows his stuff. He can be a little tough at times, but he appreciates when students show effort, and tends to boost grades if you show up for his office hours. Overall a great professor if you want to get the most for your money here at URI.
Challenges you as a student and really makes you work hard for good grades especially on the quizzes. Most of the class is just common sense. Will teach you a lot and is surprisingly helpful. Class may seem hard at times but is completely worth it. Would highly recommend both Mead and the class.
I took Prof Mead's online class thinking it would be easier than the real lecture, it wasn't. Definitely the hardest course I've ever taken and it was very confusing to learn on my own. Went to him for help once and he was helpful but the subject in general is confusing. Get ready to put in a lot of hours for this class if you want a good grade.
He'll call you out and purposely make you look like an idiot in front of everyone. I got an A in the course, but no thanks to him. He talked more about his own political beliefs and current events than about topics that were on the exam. Also, BUY HIS STUPID HANDOUT BOOK THING. And do the readings before each quiz.
Mead is crazy. He loves to call out people and then make fun of them for the rest of class. He has a weird thing for red heads and will literally use red headed people for every example. His exams are rough and his book is the most boring thing ever. Only good thing is that the exams are open note, otherwise I would have come out with an F
Great professor. Very knowledgeable. Engage in class conversations. Know what you're talking about and you will be sucessful. Don't worry about your grade, if you work, and show effort, you will pass.
The worst teacher I have ever had. When he is not wasting time complaining about Trump he is being very rude to students. I took this class seeing if I wanted to be an ECN major and he made it a hard no. Take any other teacher than him unless you wanna have a terrible time.
You will get what you put into the class
It takes some time to adjust. Learn how he teaches and what he wants you to do. I suggest going to his office hours. He's an easy guy to talk to.
Not an easy A... not an easy D either. You REALLY have to be on his mental level to pass that class, and if you're not exactly like him you will have a hard time learning. Just remember Lunch Isn't Free
If you put in the work in his class its not challenging at all. Has plenty of office hours and study sessions that I highly recommend attending. Exams are very straight forward and everything you would expect to be on them.
Comes across as intimidating in class, but is nice and helpful if you go to him outside of class. Make sure to read the readings and take good notes in handout because the handout can be used during tests. Go to review sessions before tests/quizzes. Is a tough class but teaches important critical thinking skills, looking back it was worth taking.
Mead is a great guy. Buy the handout and you really don't need to take many notes. The quizzes are online and are usually done with friends. Six assignments that are horribly easy. Three exams that focus more on common sense than economics. I'd recommend befriending a TA because they're the easiest and most knowledgable resource.
Art is one of the most confusing human beings i've ever listened to in my life. He tends to talk to the class as if they've all studied econ for 50+ years like him. I always had a hard time understanding what he was talking about although he wants students to do well. Sends TONs of emails, but helpful. Go to review sessions, take good notes.
Macroeconomics with Mead is the first relatively difficult class you will take at URI, that said, it is amazing preparation for upper level courses. He doesn't make you buy an expensive book, just the cheap paper book he wrote himself. He can be intimidating in class, but he's a great guy to speak with during office hours. One of the best at URI.
Had him both semesters and was a struggle. Have to pay attention in class and listen. Print out review problems and put them in handout. Nice guy but tough material. It is not just information you can memorize it's all critical thinking. I got tutored weekly and went to review sessions before exams. Overall lots of effort and not an easy A.
Professor Mead is very big on thinking critically so you will learn how to in the course. Have three tests and if you get a B- or higher on all three you get out of the final. Have online quizzes basically on each unit, work with a group and you should be fine. Also have 7 assignments to do throughout the semester. I recommend taking this class!!!
Buy the handout!!!!!!!!!! For ECN 201 you can write notes till your hands fall off and can use them on exam 1,2,3 and the final. The printed out version of his text is optional because he posts everything you need online. Go to class for key things he says because his lectures are the tests. You have to work for it but he makes you want to care.
Makes the material way more complicated than it needs to be b/c of the way he explains things. If you have him as a teacher the book will not help you at all b/c his exams are mostly charts. You have to read his questions 3 times before you can even understand what he's asking. The group quizzes are nice but everyone is just as confused as you are.
Worst professor ever. He wrote the handout and made things impossible to understand because of the way he teaches. I did horrible in that class purely because of his lack of explanation. He is a very smart man and passionate about economics but if you dont answer things the way HE would answer them you're gonna get everything wrong. dont take him
Both courses were challenging but I recommend taking Mead's Econ classes. Make sure you buy the handout, you can use it on all of the exams. Theres a quiz on Sakai for every unit but they're not bad. Go to class. I recommend going to the review sessions with the TAs because they explain things better and it helped me a lot. Do the review questions.
Prof. Mead was definitely the hardest professor I have had at URI. This class has taught me more than any other course I had this year because of the amount of work that goes into keeping up with the class. However, because of the difficulty of the course, I believe that I have a knowledgeable background of microeconomics.
Dr. Mead was a great professor, I learned a lot in his class, but I definitely had to work for it. Exams are very important in doing well in this class, but you get a freebee because he drops the lowest of your three exams. The final exam is optional if you get above a B- in the class, so get your assignments/ papers done and do them well.
This professor is not the one you want to take. Moves at a very fast pace and balances the students for not knowing his content. You know it’s bad when he has to re open the a quiz for everyone to retake it because everyone had failed it.
He was mean and I didn't even know what he was talking about half of the time. He writes his own text book and I don't even know how you would study for exams. I stopped studying and would get the same grades as I got before.
Inspirational lecturer. You get out of that class whatever work you put in, and he recognizes effort. Recommend going to office hours and review sessions.
You have to put in the work or you won't pass
Professor Mead is knowledgeable but not a good lecturer. He shames students for not knowing new content and doesn't offer help outside office hours. Consider another professor for this course.
Professor Mead's class is challenging, but engaging if you put in the work. The textbook is optional, but his handouts are essential. Attend class, use unstuckstudy AI for study prep, and you'll gain a solid grasp of the material.
He is retired but he was okay when i had him. Lowkey bullied students, funny but mean and intimidating really passionate about his course. Took so much to get my grade, and heard it was way easier with other professors.
