Awesome lesson plan ideas (emphasizing importance of opening activities). Spends a class period going over very informative info regarding the teaching profession (i.e. contracts, salary scale, interviewing, finding a job, etc.).

The man is GOD. He has come up with a solution to everything. He is very interesting and tells stories instead of lectures. The last time he gave a B was 1992. Take him! You are dumb if you dont.

Awesome teacher. he is extremely nice and very funny. as long as you study the 4 "study areas" for the tests and go to class you should have an easy time getting an A. take him hes really great.

He is a very fun teacher. He understands how students always have lots of work, and he tries to limit the intake of homework. Easy A if you do the readings and keep up w/ the labs!

For a night class he is very good to take. Tells stories that you can actually get interested in and therefore, NOT fall asleep! That is a skill!

Go to class. Study what he tells you. Go to lab. You'll get an A. He'll also entertain you in the process.

Dr. Smith is a great guy. He is so entertaining the time flys by in a otherwise boring three hour night class. There are a few projects but most important are the lesson plans. Make sure you do all the work and lesson plans assigned and you are golden.

Funny Guy! Take his class, he is hilarious! Class goes by fast with him teaching.

Smith is the man! He helps you even if you dont attend class! He understands that students dont always attend class sober and will not make class very challenging... class is rewarding still..!

I never thought I'd be interested in rocks! Doc Smith makes sure that the material he's covering can relate to our lives, because he knows that the class in a gen-ed, and we're not all aspiring geologists. Take this class!!!!!!!!!

Dr. Smith is a great instructor. He wants you to come out of the course with some basic understanding, and he succeeds. He gives study areas to make sure you know what you need to, and he really makes it interesting. After his class, I'm considering a minor in geology.

the greatest of the greats.actually as incorporated a stand-up comedy routine into his lectures to hold the students interest.he's an expert in his field and has the rare ability to transfer that knowledge to his students.he wants you to suceed in his class and have a fun time doing it.don't miss this class,it's the best w.c.u has to offer.

I loved his Teaching Science Class. I learned so much. His experiments were great and I loved every night of class. Great Professor so lucky if you take his class.

Gruff, brilliant, and fair. Understands that teachers need to be a bit of an entertainer to hold student interest over a 2.5 hr class. Best ed class at WCU

Most amazing teacher ever!!

Dr. Smith is wonderful teacher. He does very interesting very cool experiments that really engage you. It is worth taking him at night. You will have the most fun and learn so much with him. He gives you practical information on job finding ect as well. I loved his class.

Dr. Smith has to be one of the best professors I've had at West Chester. He made science (my least favorite subject) fun, interesting and relevant to everyday life. His breadth of knowledge is amazing. If you take this class you will learn a lot about science and even more about what it means to be a great teacher.

Great professor! He made a night class interesting. Doc Smith was really into what he taught us. He wanted us to suceed. Do the lesson plans and you're set. Mid-term and final consists of 5 lesson plans. I recommend this class, but he is hard to get!!

Great Man! He wants you to do well. Labs are easy, and he is helpful. Takes attendance but not unreasonable about showing up. Mid-term and final. He gives "study areas." No homework. Books are useful to help look up information for study areas. Need lab manual. I suggest this class.

Tells it like it is. Prepares you to teach science in THE REAL WORLD! It will be a sad day when he retires.

Interesting lectures. Powerpoint notes that are not on blackboard, I suggest to bring a computer to get them all. 2 Tests, he gives "study areas" which are basically the questions, so if you prepare answers for them and re-iterate that on the test you will get an A. Labs are graded as handed in. Lab quizzes are done with group.

Best teacher I've ever had at WCU

THE BEST PROF @ WCU! Very Straight forward, laid back guy who knows geology and knows that the students don't. He wants to you pass with flying colors and at least take 1 thing away from the class. I wish more professors were like him. TAKE HIM IF YOU HAVE TO FILL A SCIENCE GEN ED!!!!!

AMAZING PROFESSOR!!!!!!! keeps you interested, engaged, and awake in a three hour night class. TAKE HIM you will not regret it. one lesson plan (so easy) a week, midterm and final are five lessons plans. easy grader too!

GREATEST TEACHER AT WC!!! very fair guy. makes sure he's sending out quality teachers and teaches us whats important. great lesson ideas, strategies, lots of lesson plan experience. WORTH IT!!!! he is so entertaining! i would recommend him to ANYONEEE! THEE BEST =)

Dr.Smith is by far one of the best professors I have EVER had! If you are in the teaching profession - you HAVE to take him - he gives you so much useful information specifically for teachers and it is not limited to just science. I HATE science - but he made this class awesome!!!

Geology doesnt seem like the most interesting subject to most but with his teaching skills and humor (however outdated) he makes the class so much fun. I highly recommend taking his class.

AMAZING teacher. Very funny, manages to keep lectures entertaining. Labs are very easy. mid term and final tests are take home and you had a week to complete them. Took this as a winter course. Take him! No matter what class you have if it says Arthur Smith, take his class. You won't regret it. He's amazing and loves his job.

He is awesome! For a 3 hour class he makes it fly by by keeping it interesting. I learned the most about TEACHING in this class than any other class. He doesn't sugar coat anything, and wants the best for his students. I wish I took him during the regular semester instead of during the winter session! GREAT PROFESSOR!

Obsessed with his class. I completely hate west Chester university and after taking Dr. Smith's class I have done a 180. He reminded me why I want to be a teacher again after the past year of hell at this horrible school, with a lot of awful teachers (which is ironic). I wish I had him for every class, literally the smartest man alive!

Dr. Smith is awesome and I highly recommend taking him. He is very knowledgeable and has tons of stories and examples to support the curriculum. He also taught me so many other aspects of teaching that will be very beneficial in the future. You can get by without purchasing the 2 textbooks, we barely used them.

Dr. Smith is a great teacher. I had to fulfill a science requirement so I took Intro Geology. Being an art major, I had no interest in the class, but I am so glad I took it! He make the subject matter interesting and easy to understand. He is beyond helpful. Take him before he retires. Geology rocks and so does Dr. Smith!!

Dr. Smith is my favorite professor at this school. His lectures are pretty simple and he often times will stray "off-topic" and relate the current lesson to an event in history which is honestly really interesting when he does. The guy loves to make jokes and is super friendly. Great guy, wish I could take the class again! TAKE THIS CLASS! EASY!

Seriously if you have the opportunity to take this class take it. He's really good at teaching, labs are quick and usually pretty fun, and it's an overall good class. I had him from 4:30pm-5:20pm tues and thurs and then 6pm-8pm and I would still take it again. He gives clear feedback and he's just a good professor in general.

Dr. Smith is great. He really taught me how to teach science to kids. I was engaged the entire class period. I learned more in this class than I have in all of my other classes put together. 100% recommend.

Probably the best professor I've ever had. Dr. Smith has so much wisdom trapped in his brain, he can't help but let it out and spread it to his class. His lectures are interesting, as he makes everything relate-able. He has high expectations for his tests and lab activities, but he makes clear what they are and will help you along the way. Super nice. Has a sign in sheet so at least write your name down if you plan to leave. His lestures are always funny. Super glad I took this as a science gen ed. Our final and midterm were take home exams (as in take home I mean 4 questions). textbook is not necessary, if you at least take notes you'll pass.

Dr. Smith is hands down the best professor I've had at WCU. Makes the subject matter interesting, relating the topics to current events or events from history. Hilarious, friendly, seems to care about his students. Only 2 take home exams all semester. He has high expectations for them, but still straightforward. Wish he taught all of my classes.

Take Doc Smith when you have the chance. Easy going guy, even easier professor, but at the same time, is very knowledgeable and wants you to succeed.
