he is a good prof. idk wut theese kids are telling you but i have received 2 A's on essay's. he does get off subject once in awhile. good teacher. tells you everything you need to know.
Ok, so if your a girl and you take him you will most likely get an A. He grades according to the impression you make on him, so make it a good one. He thinks he is really cool and does get off topic, but over all if you do what your supposed to do you will either get an A or B
I did well in his class, though he is an ass, sarcastic, and teaches the way he wants it is an easy grade and believes C is below average so an ok writer will get a B
bring books pay attention on wat he is lookin for! get ur grammer looked at bc he takes of points for small mistakes. be on time bc he makes sure who is. particicate and u'll do great!
He has a nice personality
Great professor! He assign's about six essay's and gives you plenty of time to complete all of them. He always lets you out of class early and makes sure you understand all of the assignments.(DON'T FORGET YOUR BOOK!) He might seem rough at first but its just an act, stick with the class you won't regret it!
One of the easiest english classes I ever took. Light reading, very few papers. Most assignments were discussion. Easy tests. Not very engaging or interesting though. Grades are relatively fair, but do reflect his opinion of the student somewhat
He's good. He's knows what he's talking about. You;ll do fine if you read the test. Beprepared for pop quizzes like evry other day. I recommend him.
Good class and well taught. You need to pay attention, be prepared, and try not to make the same mistakes twice. He tries to be intimidating and acts arrogant but he really is a good teacher and means well.
Very disorganized but if he likes you, you're fine. Read the text and speak out, a lot. If you're a girl and you talk you'll get at least a B. Pretty easy class overall. GET THE BOOK!
ummm he's ok but i do agree with everybody else on the grading scal, he never gives A' and he is a bit of a jerk because he will call you out in front of the whole class call sometimes, and his grades do reflect his impression of you.
Brockway may come off as intimidating, but he's a nice guy. It was a bit discouraging at first but I can genuinely say I took in a lot and improved as a writer once the course was over. If you get an A in his class, you've earned it. You just have to figure out what he expects from the students. Bring your book and don't miss any classes.
Best Professor ever, and real easy on the eyes.
Great professor but he does not teach the MLA format or require it. He allows 3 absences ONLY. He gives type of paper to write, you choose what to write it on and have generally a week to write it. Only problem is that he influences his personal beliefs in the classroom. If you are religious or conservative, he will insult you.
If you're looking for the smartest English prof. on campus, then Brockway is for you. If you are majoring in English studies, he WILL provide you with lots of knowledge and insight to writing and literature. Not an easy grader, but pretty fair in my opinion.
I took his class last year, and even up to now he has been the best teacher i have ever had. He's very helpful and takes time with each student to explain to them what they are doing right/wrong. He has an excellent teaching technique. I've probably learned the most in his class than any other class i've taken in college thus far.
Had this teacher for ENC 1101 and 1102. By far the best English teacher I've ever had. He gives you the grades that you deserve, and if you try your best, you will be rewarded. He's clear with his expectations and if you happen to exceed them, you will get an A for sure. The best way to get an A from this teacher is to teach him something!
He is a very good teacher, he keep the class interesting and he very helpful. However, it is almost impossible to get an A in his class. He still an awesome professor.
i was freash out of high school but i was always a fairly skilled writer but he took me to the next level. his grading is very light, and and really appreciates getting to know his students. tip if he gets to know you then the class gets even easier.
Professor Brockway really takes the time to thoroughly explain everything he is teaching and honestly just makes it fun
Once I got into his class I was wondering if I looked up the right person on rate my professor. All the comments were so good but this guy is very strict. Strict grading. You better be a good writer because he compares students work to English majors. Great if ur going into English not so great if ur just trying to pass. Have fun with Shakespeare !
By far the worst teacher i have ever had. No help what so ever. If you ask him a question he just has some kind of sarcastic answer like hes the smartest person in the world. He doesnt realize that some people arnt english majors. DONT TAKE HIM
Prof. Brockway is a fantastic teacher. He took my writing to another level; I have learned so much from him. I would highly recommend him for Enc 1101 & I cannot wait to take him for 1102. GREAT TEACHER!
Prof Brockway was tough but fair, he wanted us to succeed and inspired us to challenge ourselves! He helped me better my writing skills and kept the class interesting with jokes and relating the material to our lives.
Was a very nice teacher. Jumped around alot which made it seem like he was confused. Dont miss class or he will take points off your grade. Overall easy class.
You can tell he really cares because he tries to motivate students to improve their skills and knowledge. He tries to avoid lowering the level of class discourse and work just to suit pedestrian students. Offers plenty of extra help. Students not wanting to be bothered by any kind of meaningful educational experience should look elsewhere.
Lots of papers!
if you struggle with english DO NOT TAKE HIM. he is by far the toughest grader i have ever met. yeah he wants you to try and do your best but when you do its not good enough. you have a 2000 word paper and i worked so hard and spent hours of my life writing it and actaully tried and i got a c+. he is so hard dont take him.
Good teacher, but would get off topic quite frequently and he does make you work for your grade you really need to make sure your papers are well written.
best english teacher. he is a funny guy, and his teaching ways a great. to pass his class, all you need to do is look at the syllabus because he lays out what you need to do for that class. follow the syllabus and you will do fine. there are papers that you must turn in, and re-write. he gives you feedback on both papers though.
Absolutely worst class Ive ever taken. He is so rude and talks about students behind their back. DO NOT TAKE!!!!!!
Professor Brockway spends too much of the class talking about himself. His ego often gets in the way of his lessons. Passing is easy because tests are made at a high school level. He demands a lot of respect but doesn't feel the need to reciprocate it to his students. Most importantly, he likes to talk down to his students in a condescending tone.
Professor Brockway is a tough grader but honestly is full of knowledge. He definitely knows what he's talking about and if you're trying to improve your writing skills his feedback will surely do that. Go to him if you need guidance in your papers and he'll provide it. Not an easy A but work hard enough you'll do well.
I am currently taking his class and love the way he has taught it so far. the reviews I read for him are certainly not accurate at all. the people who made those probably didn't do well because they didn't show up or did poorly because they refused the help. I personally struggle with English and I am glad I took his class. you should take it too!!
Art Brok is the bomb. He may seem like a bit harder... but its just to make you better. #litisfun
Pick neutral subjects for the paper, if he disagrees with you he won't give it over a B. Need to do more than what's asked to get an A. He grades the papers harshly. Not terrible but I wouldn't take him again.
AWESOME professor!!!!
I loved Prof. Brockway, but his class is not an easy A. He makes you work for your grade, but will help you IMMENSELY every step along the way. He wants you to truly learn and do well. He will work with you outside of class whenever you need and communicates very well. One of the few classes I felt actually learned something in. Very friendly guy!
Overall he's a great teacher. I took him for enc1102 as well. He's not tough, he loves when students come during his office hours, lectures are quick, and easy papers. There maybe alot papers to write but small word count easy. At the end l, all the feedback makes you become a better writer. My first paper was an C- and my last paper was an A.
DO NOT TAKE HIM IF YOU'RE JUST TRYING TO GET EASY CREDITS. Take him if you want to improve yourself. He is a very strict grader. He kind of arrogant but is very knowledgeable about English. Can be a little rude sometimes. Be prepared to stay the whole class time. You can only miss 3 days. You'll have about 6 essays most of them 1000 words.
Good teacher. there is work. easy stuff. just make time out for the papers.
follows his syllabus closely, humorous and talkative in a good way. Clearly in love with himself. He also rambles off into how great he is and how much he has achieved. Can be a little boring and dry but at least he tries. Not an excessive amount of work to do, textbook is mandatory.
Tough grader, Lots of Essays, one group project, boring subjects!! Expects you to be on his skill level. DO NOT RECOMMEND
Read the books! His class is easy as long as you read the material and listen in class.
I just wish he would talk less about himself and how great he is. It would be helpful to understand he is susceptible to flattery.
He is strict about minimum words which is a bit annoying because you may finding yourself having to stretch your paper to reach the minimum requirements whereas some teachers don't put a minimum on word count and I find it easier to produce well-constructed, solid essays. He is good about giving feedback and helping you with your paper.
He's good professor. Make you work hard for your grade but if you speak with him about your paper he'll definitely help you. Take him but don't be lazy.
Prof. Brockway is an OK guy, but he was very tough on grading. If you are shy and don't like speaking, DO NOT take him. He always talked about how great he is and how much he knows, and sometimes had an arrogant vibe to him (if that makes sense). He definitely makes you work for your grade. DO NOT TAKE unless you're a good writer.
Took my first ever college class with Brockway; had never written an essay before and he helped me learn. Always had positive feedback, was always helpful, and is the best professor I've ever taken. He's tough on you because he wants you to improve, so be prepared to go above and beyond. Not a class to lay back and relax in; you work for your grade
Second class taken with Brockway, more advanced than ENC1101. We handled tough ethical and philosophical topics, and he encouraged us to think hard and come up with original ideas. He gives you a rubric so you know exactly what you did right and wrong, where to improve, etc. Always willing to lend a hand, but tough on you so that you get better.
LIT1000 was the easiest course I took with Brockway; you read a lot, and do a lot of analysis of short stories and poetry. Funny guy, great lecturer, tries his best to keep you engaged, will always help you out and give you advice on your papers. Highly recommend, but he will be tough on you for your own good; he wants you to succeed.
Excellent, professional teacher. Capable of providing helpful instruction for students at any level. Always helps make you a better student if you are willing to put in the work.
Brockway was a great teacher. He gives good feedback on papers and wants to help students improve. He also does his best to portray the material in an interesting way. Despite usually struggling through English classes, I did well in this class and time flew by. He is funny and helpful and gets the students involved in their own education.
Highly recommend this class to anyone!English is not my strong subject but this teacher made the class so interesting that I really wanted to keep up with the reading. Seriously best teacher Ive ever had. You do have to work for your grade but it is so worth the extra effort to have a teacher that is knowledgeable, passionate and entertaining/funny
Professor Brockway is very knowledgeable in his field. However, he is a very tough grader and isnt always clear about exactly what he wants. The class can sometimes be extremely disorganized. Professor Brockway can also be too into himself at times. Overall, he was an average professor. Not the best, but also not the worst.
Overall great teacher, he does make you work for the grade but it is worth it in the end. He is straightforward and genuinely wants to see All his students succeed as much as possible. What you put in is what you get out of it. I was able to get amazing feedback on my writing and am more confident thanks to his class.
I literally rearranged my whole schedule just so I could take Professor Brockway again. Great lectures, funny guy, and overall a good teacher. He won't be laid back when grading your papers but his feedback is very helpful.
He was. Really hard to follow him with all the reading and him talking so much in circles. Really dreadful if you dont like talking.
Dr. Brockway is a great professor. He has a lot of knowledge and personal experience of the subject matter for the course. Read the material assigned. Assignments had clear instructions, follow them and you will do well. It is obvious he cares about you as a student and has a low tolerance for students that don't respect the course and their peers.
Hes a little eccentric but if you try he is more than willing to meet you half way
Professor Brockway is tough but fair. Though slightly braggadocios in his reading/writing competency, he is very respectful in giving students feedback. Read a book he provided & produced summaries/responses, along with some pop quizzes. 2 major papers (1000 word/2000 word). He makes you earn your grade, but if you care & put effort in you'll pass.
I took Professor Brockway for LIT1000 and overall good professor. He is very knowledgable to the material and was able to simplify things. Make sure you always do the readings as he may randomly give you a quiz. There is no reason why you shouldn't be able to pass this class if you put in an effort.
Professor Brockway brings the characters in literature alive. He makes learning fun.
If you are used to rude teachers that try to use student's imperfections and small failures to make a point, by all means take him. If you like people who brag of themselves and make small, snarky comments that are rude of students who are just trying to learn-by ALL means take him. I've never encountered such an annoying professor until this term.
Professor Brockways class was one of the best Literature/English courses I have ever taken. He is extremely knowledgeable on the material and encourages lively conversation during class lectures. Youll have to put the work in, but if you want a professor that actually cares enough to read your papers and help you improve- then take his class!
I absolutely loved taking his course. He is awesome, gives papers back with plenty of suggestions to help raise you grade. He allows re-writes on some of his assignments. If you read the syllabus and readings, write your papers, and show up to class, youll pass and learn more than a thing or two. Im planning on taking him again soon.
He is a great professor. I have learned and improved my writing skills.
I had a stressful month with this professor. Being a quick summer class, every week a considerable sized assigment was due. He makes you work very hard for your grade and says a B is considered success, which I do not agree. You'll definitely improve your writing and interpretation, but be ready to work very hard, do not miss any classes or be late
The class is fairly easy, you just have to be sure to turn in any assignments on time. He is a pretty tough grader. Sometimes he made inappropriate comments that came across as weird when he was trying to be funny. Not very respectful. Does not give clear guidelines of what he wants, so in turn, you get a bad grade. Makes an easy class hard.
Hes a good teacher but you have to be in class to participate. Also hes open minded to conversation if you are in need of help
Prof Brockway was an amazing professor to take. His teaching is a mix of being sarcastic and serious. This makes the class fun and interesting to come to every day. He has a lot of 1 on 1 time for each student so it feels like you're getting your money's worth.
Brockway is someone who you think clearly states what he wants on assignments, but you will never amount to his standards. I have no idea what an "A" paper looks like (I don't think Earnest Hemingway would be able to get that grade in his class). He is rude in his commentary when you actually ask for help, and makes you feel inferior to him. DROP!
I recommend taking Brockway's class if you are into very heavy lectures. He does talk a lot but it is all in good means. He truly wants every student to do their best in his class and will help within reasonable circumstances. Be cautious though, he does grade tough but it's for your personal benefit. Listen to what he recommends, and you'll pass.
I took this course over 6 weeks this summer and it was a lot of writing papers for the short period of time. The course is based around the show Rick & Morty which you have to watch and write about. COVID made this an online class. Class would be much better in person because it is more beneficial to be able to speak in a group and interact. Great!
Honestly a great professor. The class is fun and very unique. If you do your work you will pass. Participation matters so he will call on you. There are a couple writing assignments but he gives due dates from the beginning of the semester so if you stay on top of it you are good.
This teacher will help you to improve your college composition skills if you are willing to work for it.
Loved Prof Brockway! Very engaging. One tip-- PARTICIPATE! You will learn so much more in his class if you participate in class. Thorough teaching. Only a few grades, but everything was relatively easy. This prof is great at explaining and teaching, and he is hilarious too!
class LIT2050 is a solid choice. Easy, rick and morty centered, lots of fun. EASY
I took this class Monday/Wednesday mornings and it was honestly a great class to take! The class is a little difficult if you dont do the homework but if you pay attention and participate in class you will be fine :)
GREAT PROFESSOR! super funny and very smart!! he cares about all of his students and wants them all to pass. He loves when people engage in the conversation and loves participation.
the thing you have to worry about is the analytical paper very picky just do not wait until the last moment. there is only 8 assignments all writing so very few room for error but easy at the same time. if you like rick and morty it is a plus i do not so it was bit more difficult. so up b/c attendance is like 20% or something. Nice guy overall.
Unless you love writing off of prompts that are extremely unclear, and when questions are asked about said prompt, his response will make you feel like you don't know anything. His way of teaching is that he knows everything and no one can be over him. Do Not Recommend!!
Professor Brockway is a truly amazing professor. He actually cares about his student's success in his class and will work with you through comprehensible lectures. It's evident that he genuinely wants you to become a better writer. No unnecessary or impossible assignments will be given and he makes sure that you understand the material/assignment.
He's super straight forward. Definitely a good dude who grades very fair. Participate and ask questions when you need to. You should definitely take him, especially if you ARE NOT a LIT major.
Terrible, inconsiderate, awful professor. Ill never forget when my grandma was having surgery and I had to leave class early he said what are you, the surgeon? Easy class sure but an awful person.
An annoyingly arrogant professor that often threatens his students with poor grades. He makes you feel dumb, lectures are hard to follow because hell go on tangents. Every story we read he would find a way to make inappropriate remarks, then say we were immature if we were uncomfortable discussing it. Work is easy, one assignment a week.
Professor Brockway is very sarcastic and witty. The class involves a lot of discussions and you will do better if you participate. Your grade will depend solely on your papers and how well you do. If you like to write and have a good laugh he is the professor for you.
Participatation is essential. Keep up with the deadlines and do the readings and their follow-up assignments before class and you should be fine. Lectures are always interesting in general. Actually made me like literature.
told the entire class on the first day if they scored a 2 or lower on his diagnostic they were probably dropped on their head as a baby, discouraging, to say the least. super picky and a tough grader but at least he's aware of how tough he is, likes to brag about it. not compassionate or an empathetic person at all and sometimes rude.
Like the ratings say he may come off as rude but he is a great professor. Do your work and be respectful and you will be fine. If you do not put in any effort, he will notice and that is how you get a bad grade from him. He is strict but you will be fine as long as you follow instructions. So, I do recommend Professor Brockway.
one of the few professor that actually want you to do well. he always takes his time to help you. his lectures are always fun, never a dull moment in his class. he gives alot of feedback and when he does, use it!! he always makes sure you reach your full potential. one of the few professor who actually want to help you and tell you the truth.
Professor Brockway was patient, kind sand extremely helpful. It was because of him that I completed and passed this course. I did not have a book with or on me, he provided one from his personal library books for the course to help me graduate due to a late processed Fafsa application. He took his time to explain, breakdown, simplify the material.

He was a great teacher but very smart mouthed at times. His lectures were very informative and thorough.
I've enjoyed professor Brockway's class for many reasons. He explains his lessons well and is helpful if you have any questions. he also does in-class group discussions that correlate with the rhetoric you learn for that week. You will do well in his class if you follow his instructions and turn in your work on time.
his lectures were absolutely horrid which is why my rating is so low. He rambles on and on and goes off topic and mentions sex/religion every other sentence which is annoying. He boasts about his knowledge on literature and very self oriented. As long as you complete your online assignments and show up for class with a camera, you should be fine.
Toughest grader there is, doesn't even give feedback on how to improve on your essay, his lectures are pretty boring and put me to sleep take a different professor
He is rude. He rarely stays on topic. His lectures are boring and go off-topic. As long as you complete your online assignments and show up for class with a camera on time, you should be fine. He is strict, but you will be fine if you follow instructions. He lets you know how strict he is at the beginning of class.
Definitely not an easy class but I didn't find it difficult to get an A. Don't get me wrong, those lectures are tiresome but as long as you show up & do your work on time you'll be fine. Not too much writing in this class, only homework most days was reading a short story.
This professor keeps lectures engaging and encourages participation. While the workload can be heavy, using resources like Unstuck AI along with the textbook makes it manageable. Overall, an interesting class that's worth taking if you're willing to put in the effort.
He explain what he needs to explain. A lot of group projects and there's is no going back from back. He's strict and lets you know that for sure. Attendance in his class IS FOR A GRADE!!!!!Overall 5/10
Lots of long essays and homework I must say. Attendance is a must. I was passing his class the whole semester with an B and on my last assignment he accused me of plagiarism, I reached out to discuss it with him he did not respond to my emails and dropped my final grade to a D I think he just likes to fail people!
His lectures can be long and he will talk in-depth about even easy things. However that is his job and he does say good info sometimes. Only had like 3 papers the whole semester so no biggie. No homework just working on our writing. Attendance is for a grade so make sure you show up on-time with camera on and participate, he is not difficult.
Never making the mistake of not checking my professor's reviews. DON'T recommend. I've never had problems with a professor until his class showed up and that's when false accusations came along.
Good professor. Impossible to get 100% on any papers, but he'll still score you high if you tried (80-95). Strictly against AI and plagiarism. Don't take the class if you rely on AI, he caught a fourth of the class for trying. Easy points in the summary quizzes! 100% participate in class, it's a requirement for ur grade. Overall very educational!
Professor Brockway is just Professor Brockway, he's kinda strict but he can understanding. We only had 2 papers technically and the final. He's very much against AI and attendance is mandatory. Overall he's an okay professor never had a problem with him and he's work wasn't over the top, he's just very passionate about his job.
