Hes a really good teacher. He knows his material. Classes are very interesting, and hes a really nice guy.

He's the coolest guy ever! Very clear and helpful, very fair. He invokes good class discussion and always patient.
such an awesome professor..cares about his students and actually knows what he is talking about. I highly recommend any of his classes
Professor Dobrin is great. His class on Moral Education was well taught. He is much more interested in getting you to be personally involved in the subject matter than he is on testing you on it. Class discussions will definitely keep you interested, class is not a drag with him.Highly recommended!
This guy is a complete JERK--STAY AWAY
arthur is an amazing professor and is very, very knowledgable in all that he teaches. not too much work but keeps you busy (and you won't mind the readings.) hardly any tests at all if the class does the work they are assigned. take his classes! you'll get a great experience and gain a friend.
made topic interesting
The most amazing teacher! He is really there for his students and he cares so much!! He has traveled the world and really wants every student to do well! He is worth taking no matter what the class!! Best teacher I've had by far!!!
He's a good teacher. I recommend him, but the SUS Core class is too long, so if his class is in the morning, like the 8:30am class im taking, i wouldn't take it. It drags on for a long time.. but overall hes a good teacher, he's a very well-rounded person :)
Dobrin is one of the best professors I ever had at hofstra. He is very intelligent and understanding and wants to hear everyones opinions about the topic thats is being taught in class. He is such a good influence towards his students. If you have anything bad to say about him, you clearly do not know what you are talking about. class taken : ethic
very helpful
Great man with alot of knowledge to be bestowed upon to his students especially with regards to ethics and the lessons of life to be general. H makes you think about your own feelings and decisions to see if you really have the propper clarity of the things that are important . Great man great personality, treated everyone with respect.
Made business ethics actually interesting too discuss. Also encouraged group discussion w/out getting too deep into theory. All in all, good professor for the subject matter.
Class was fun. Discussed his short book and case studies. Great feedback on article write-ups. Easy to to get a great grade if you show up and participate.
great professor......learnt a lot...very clear inhis teaching and made class very interesting.....
Taking Prof. Dobrin during the January session was well worth it - even though the class was 3 1/2 hours two nights per week, the class went by without a yawn which by itself says quite alot. I would highly recommend taking Prof. Dobrin to anyone is has not yet taken MGT 200. I wish he was teaching other classes in the MBA Program!
Great Professor!! Knowledgeable and keeps the class interesting.
Professor Dobrin is a great professor. I highly recommend him. His ethical and moral views make his classes extremely interesting. Everyone should experience his classes and teaching style.
Briallant, and a superb teacher, but more than that -- Prof. Dobrin is an exceptional human being. A jewel of Hofstra.
This class was very interesting and I learned a world of knowledge from this course. Although Prof Dobrin was a complete ****! He is pompous and arrogant. Both him and prof Schwartzman who is retired are rude morons. Even though both knowledgeable they were very arrogant. You also do a dumb group project. Let other kids determine your grade!!
Great professor, if you are to take a class in the SUS program you should really aim to get into a class with Dobrin, he is very helpful and understanding and teaches great life lessons.
This guy is fantastic, the best professor I may ever have.
This professor teaches great lessons about life and his visits to Africa with his wife. He has a tendency to be rude and extremely arrogant. Professor Schwartman is useless. I found his class interesting because he has great knowledge of the world domestically and globally; however, he is not a fair grader when a group project is presented.
I hate this guy. He is absolutely ridiculous & his books make no sense. His books are only published in India because no one in the US would publish them. He had to pay to get his books published. He belongs in the Philosophy department but they put him in Humanities because he knows nothing. Other professors even make fun of him! Stay far away fro
An unbelievable professor and possibly the best one that I've had in my 3 and a half years at Hofstra. He truly cares about what students have to say and he makes his class a democracy, not a dictatorship. Those that say he's a jerk don't know what they're talking about. Awesome Professor, awesome guy.
Nicest guy on earth!!!!! Teaches his books so he know everything about them. CLass is interesting
I'm pretty sure that if given the chance, he would clone himself just to make out with himself- he's that self absorbed. Not a bad human being, though.
His classes are all discussion, and I don't like that EVERY assignment is on Blackboard. Every week we have a discussion board due at midnight the day before the class, and we have assignments based on the chapters - all due at midnight the night before the class. Not a great course overall, and the textbook is terrible.
I think he allows really half-baked reasoning to fly in his classroom... so many times I sat there thinking 'he's actually allowing this spoiled little student a say on highly sophisticated ethical subject matters?' I took this class to learn about journalism ethics, not to hear Hofstra students' opinions. I don't think he's a great monitor.
You HAVE to take this class if you want an A that is easy and a pleasure to earn for this requirement.
Love love loveddd this class-- dobrin was good, definetly a bit full of himself at times and he had high expectations but was always willing to help. definetly take ethics in the modern world if youre in SUS you learn a lot from both dobrin and green and the issues you talk about are easy to relate to yet challenging. would take it again if i could
LOVED THIS CLASS-- if youre in SUS take ethics in the modern world. dobrin expected a lot but was always willing to help. not too hard of a grader, him and professor green worked really well together. the issues we talked about were easy to relate to yet challenging at the same time. loved it-- would take it again if i could
Loved this class~ I took a Saturday morning class, and actually enjoyed waking up early to attend.
this guy only likes you if you agree with him
He talks a lot in class and is kind of boring, but is a very helpful person. It is a solid class and reasonably easy. Just read the books and you are fine. You get to use your notes on tests too.
This professor is dedicated to teaching to the students to the best of his capabilities. He makes it interesting and relates it to the students as best as he can. Although there may be many lectures he makes them interesting and has a positive spirit which is encouraging in class.
If you need to take JRNL 001, take him. His class was easy, just write 500 words on his podcasts using the different approaches, which he goes over in one class. The midterm was the same as the HW assignments, just a bit longer, and weighted the same, as all the assignments were out of 100 points. The final was optional, but as long as you've done the assignments well, there should be no need to take it. Also, you need to attend class and participate, as they are factors to your grade.
THE CLASS WAS VERY INFORMATIVE! I appreciated learning about the history of east africa !! The professor is helpful and assignas alot of reading however there are not tests! just essays on the reading
The class is super easy but extremely boring. You learn everything you need to know in the first week of class. There are 2 papers due a week, which gets tedious, but provide for easy As. No tests or midterms. Attendance is mandatory and put into your grade. Overall, a waste of time.
One of my favorite professors at Hofstra! You go in not knowing what to expect, but each class is a new life lesson. Readings are difficult to understand at first, but the following class he explains everything perfectly. No tests, Midterms or Finals. Easy A, TAKE HIM!!!
Great professor, fantastic writer. His stories are captivating and lead to enthralling class discussions. No papers or exams, attendance is mandatory. Overall, a great professor for what can be a grueling subject matter. Worth taking it with Dobrin!
I learned a lot in a interactive and engaging way. I highly recommend professor Dobrin. He is nice, fair, and straight forward.
Course material is very clear, and professor is very clear on what is expected. He will not add any additional work, but expects participation. Excellent class, as long as you keep up with the assignments, you should have no issues.
Directs his class in a thought provoking, intelligent manner. I've had very intellectual conversations in this class than ever before. However, he can be impatient and unclear at times but keeps his students updated very well. Overall he is a solid professor. You've got nothing to lose from taking his class.
Went into this class barely interested. The class is media ethics but Dobrin teaches it in a way that applies to all aspects of life. This class has made me think in ways that have literally changed my attitude and outlook on life. TAKE THIS CLASS/PROF DOBRIN. Just do the discussion board assignments and participate for an easy A.
NO NO NO. I really can't stand this man. He seems like a really chill, cool, old man until the end of the year when you find out he's secretly extremely strict. DO NOT use your phone in class or your grade will be severely penalized at the end of the year. Also his feedback is completely useless. I will NEVER take his class again.
He's not a chill guy at all. Pretty big nerd who feels the need to stick it to everyone, probably because he got picked on in school. Most of the class is based on dumb hypothetical situations that he forces you to discuss. Bored to tears when he speaks. Class was awful and his grading policy is worse. Stay away.
Professor Dobrin was engaging, intelligent, and friendly. His one requirement - participate! If you cant participate in a masters level course, you should be removed from the program. I hope to take another course by Mr. Dobrin. He also has a very interesting past life, and often tells the students about it.
Very sweet man, laid back, with a passion for ethics. Class discussions were always interesting, and almost force you to think differently. No tests, no quizzes, no final, no papers. Class is based on discussion board responses. As long as you do the online assignments, talk once in a while, and don't miss a lot of classes you WILL get an A.
Loved this class and Professor Dobrin! Take it in intermission if you can
There are weekly homework assignments in the class which he collects and grades. Attendance is mandatory (he lets you miss 1). Class participation is also required and is part of your grade. There are no exams at all. Dr. Dobrin is very knowledgeable about ethics and has published multiple books.
Great professor. He really makes you think about ethical situations you may face in the business world. The readings that he makes you do are very interesting, although not all are related to business. There is no midterm and no final, only 1 page assignments that need to be submitted before every class. Attendance is mandatory.
take this professor for media ethics! i knew nothing about ethic until i took this class. plus there are NO TESTS i repeat NO TESTS what so ever. all you have to do is submit a short homework online before class which is usually just based on your opinion.
He's a nice man and all and has great experience on like everything but he is unclear on his assignments which brought my grade down because I was never sure of what he was expecting cause he was never really so clear on due dates and etc. He takes attendance very seriously so you must attend like every class
Took this class off of reviews I saw here. Great professor, very inspiring and insightful. I received a 97 (A) in the class by giving in depth responses to our only form of homework which were journal entries (about 500 words) three times a week. The reading were interesting and the book he wrote you read is great. No tests, midterms, or finals.
I took Dr. Dobrin's winter intersession class for Ethics. I would highly recommend taking this class as a winter or summer class with this professor. You really won't hate going to this class like some of your other classes. I thoroughly enjoyed it. It makes you think in a different way both in the workplace, at home, and in society.
If you keep an open mind, you'll like it. If you find yourself frustrated or not interested, you'll find a handful of people to complain with. Overall, most people respect him. He's very intelligent and pretty laid back. It's better when everyone has something to say. The class is whatever you want it to be. Do the homework, and show up.
Professor Dobrin is one of the best professors in Hofstra. His lectures are amazing. It was my first time taking a religion class for an HP credit for Humanism and Jewish Thought and I have to say it was worth every second. Professor Dobrin is always open to questions. This class taught me a lot in just one semester! TAKE THIS CLASS!
easy class, lots of reading and writing, easy grader, not the best guy though
Took MGT 200 with him over Summer 1 session. He assigned now hw, tests, or projects. Simply asked us to read, participate, and show up. Such a great trade off! The required reading was simple and easy to read. The class discussions and lectures were insightful. If you have to take the class, try to take it with him. He is beyond fair.
Materials were interesting. Strongly recommended this professor.
I strongly recommend this professor. I took his summer class. If you answer the questions and participate actively in class, you will be fine.
Great Professor and would recommend him for an intersession. No exams, or papers just weekly readings. The readings are interesting as well as the lectures.
Dr. Dobrin is an amazing teacher and role model. He is the teacher that I learned the most from and will remember most warmly when I reflect on my educational experience at Hofstra. I will miss this class.
The class isn't particularly exciting, but it's an extremely easy class. As long as you show up, do the homework and participate a little bit in class, you should receive an A in class. There are no tests or quizzes, and a majority of the class is discussion based. I highly recommend Professor Dobrin for Media Ethics.
Dr. Dobrin is an amazing lecturer. Expect to do homework (it will enrich your life). What worked for me were the assignments given, along with class discussions and best of all, was the switching up on class small groups. You get a great perspective of your classmates and also, different points of view.I missed several classes so my grade suffered
Dr Dobrin is truly an amazing professor. I have not had the ability to bond with a professor the way I did with him in many years. It doesn't matter what kind of student you are, you will find yourself thinking about the concepts discussed in class outside of the class. If you want to learn and open your mind, take his classes! Easy A and fun!!!
Took Dobrin's MGT200 ethic class in January, definitely recommend the condensed version. Gives short answer homework based off of his book. No TESTS. Do the homework, show up to class and get an A.
If he decides he does not like you, don't worry he will lower your participation grade right before final grades are due (after you have had an A before he changes it without telling you). Dont even think about skipping or being late, he lowers your final grade. Very easy, but boring class. Would not ever take a course with this professor again.
Very nice guy, easy class, and has many interesting stories. He's been all around the world and he knows fair share about what is ethical and what is not. Would 10/10 take him again.
Excellent and clear professor! He is organize, fair, do your reading assignments, easy A. Would take him again!
Great professor if you like courses that involve a lot of class discussion. He's BIG on participation and adapts to each individual class to make sure he gets the right environment going to get everyone to speak up. His system for submitting assignments takes some getting used to. Not a heavy note-taking class. He WILL deduct points for tardiness.
Don't take this class if you know you won't be able to participate and talk in groups. DO take this class if you're looking for a professor who isn't interested in grades and essays and really wants to listen to and learn from his students. Dr. Dobrin's class didn't feel like class at all, and I urge everyone to experience his method of teaching.
Fairly easy class as long as you show up and do your work on time.
Great class! No tests or papers just a lot of homework. However, if you do the homework on time and put effort into it, you're guaranteed to get an A. Professor Dobrin is extremely knowledgable and every class is filled with great discussions. He's strict with latenesses and absences so make sure you go!
He is an awesome professor. I am a journalism major and took his media ethics class. You will get an A in this class as long as you show up, he takes attendance very serious, participate in class and do the homework assignments. There are no tests in his class which was a great way to learn because instead of lectures we learned more about life.
Professor Dobrin is by far my favorite professor! His Media Ethics class is very easy. Make sure you don't miss a class or late because he will deduct points from your average. Otherwise he's a overall great professor. There's no tests just a lot of readings and papers. Hand your assignments in on time and you're golden! Easy A if you do the work.
Class should be taken seriously in order to get a good grade. You need to have the assigned textbooks. Very interesting subject matter and one of the few classes I've taken where the professor allows student conversation/participation to run the class most days.
He's super nice! I loved his class. You do have assignments every class but they're easy and help you be more careful of deadlines.
Interesting professor... No tests or quizzes which is nice. Class is purely discussion based, and you are graded on participation and weekly assignments. Weekly assignments aren't hard, usually 2 or 3 assignments per week, each 400-500 words. Overall its a good experience, but beware ABSOLUTELTY NO EXTRA CREDIT, that's the only thing I found weird.
He is an inspirational professor and has so many stories to tell. This class is good if you like writing instead of taking tests. There are multiple writing assignments due every week which can sometimes be monotonous, but are fairly simple. If you want to really learn and think critically, he pushes you to delve beneath the surface.
Professor Dobrin is one of the best professors I've ever had, when I say this, I mean it. No matter what profession you are thinking about venturing into , you will need to understand what Ethics is, and why it is important. Whether you are going into medicine, PR, or journalism etc. Ethics, is the foundation of all decision making.
If you want to learn take professor Dobrin, he has a kind soul and is extremely smart. Yes, there are readings, papers, participation, and deadlines. This is the real world, he is trying to prepare you for life. Without an understanding of Ethics, it will be hard to succeed. Do your part, learn and you will pass with a very nice grade! TY prof D!
The best professor at Hofstra, Hofstra got blessed when professor Dorbin decided to be a part of this University. Do your work, make your deadlines & you will learn, communicate and participate and he will help you. He is not out to get you like most professors take him he really is great. Not a boring class, not harsh grader if you do your work!
THE BEST! THANK YOU PROFESSOR DOBRIN, YOU TAUGHT ME AND YOU ARE THE BEST. GOD BLESS YOU and YOUR FAMILY!
Dorbin is an amazing profosser. This class is an easy A as long as you show up and participate. There's no test, the entire class is based around assigned readings then corresponding online assignment. In class you discuss the assigned readings. Some are boring and others are super interesting. Overall this class is a super easy A, take it!
Dr. Dobrin was one of the best Journalism professors I have had at Hofstra. He is very kind and is an approachable teacher. He will give you feedback on the assignments you do and it is very helpful! Yes, the book is required. However, some of the stories really push you to think. I highly recommend taking this course. You won't regret it!
10/10 would recommend. The nicest most knowledgable man at Hofstra. This course really opened my eyes about the media world and ethics. No tests, easy class, but homework generated &you must keep up with the weekly assignments.
This guy is VERY ethical. Beyond that he does not really relate to journalism but overall is a pretty easy grader. You get three absences so SHOW UP or your grade drops like mine. Also turn in assignment at 3:30, graded with an A by 3:35, class is so easy
If you show up to class and do the readings, you will be perfectly fine. No tests or quizzes, just ethical discussion of the reading and current events. Attendance policy is a little strict but other than that Dobrin is one of the nicest people on Hofstras campus
Professor Dobrin is a great guy. He really makes you think about ethics and helps guide you to make ethical reasons. There may be many short responses for the class, but no tests or final makes up for it.
Such a great professor! Very chill and makes you think about ethics. Has many guests speakers who actually talk about the field too. Do the work and come to class and youll get an A, no doubt. Highly recommend.
Professor Dobrin is probably one of the nicest people Ive ever met. His discussions are meaningful, Assignments are fair, and his class is so enjoyable. He really makes you think about ethics from perspectives people dont normally think about. It was privilege to take him, and he has honestly changed the way I think about the world.
I really enjoyed media ethics. No tests or quizzes, just weekly home works due Monday and Wednesday which honestly is really good. He is the most interesting person around and you will learn a lot taking this class.
I want my money back, I didnt learn anything
A lot of homework assignments but there are no tests or papers. Just go to class and sit through discussions and do homework and you're good.
Graded on only homework. Really easy.
Professor Dobrin is the most inspirational professor I have ever had. He is so understanding of personal issues, and will work with any student. He explains things in a fantastic manner so that it is easily understood. He brings interesting points to the class, however it is completley student run. It is a MUST that you take Professor Dobrin.
Truly the best professor I've had at Hofstra. Homework load is heavy but consistent throughout the semester, so you get used to the weekly write up's--and once submitted to blackboard you receive your grade within ten minutes. Clear and straight forward.
10/10 would take again. Super funny without even trying. His wife is the cutest thing to ever live. Honestly seems like such a genuine person with a huge heart. Great human. Exceptional professor. Has a Cat, A few Kids, Grandkids, a Book and great style.
He only cares about his own opinions and has a tendency to cut people off if hes tired of them talking. He likes to ramble and youll only learn like 4 things over the course of a whole semester.
Ok, for all the people upset because of his attendance policy, I do agree it is a little harsh but you JUST have to show up. You dont have any tests or quizzes. He lets his opinion be known sometimes a little too much but he also listens, for the most part. Honestly an easy A. Just go to class.
Dobrin is a great professor of ethics. He continuously is challenging his students to think of things from a different perspective. JRNL 001 is writing HEAVY and you will be expected to write at least 2 written assignments a week, but this is worth it for no tests or quizzes (not even a final or final project). The class makes you think. Worth it.
I dropped my Journalism minor because of this class. It's a waste of money. If you have to take JRNL 001 with him, don't take it as your first class. He's narcissistic and does not really care at all about students' opinions or experiences. Believes he is all knowing because he was in the Peace Corps but is really just obnoxious.
Professor Dobrin is a real jem. He makes you purchase and buy his book for the textbook; however, his stories can ethically challange any mind. He is a kind soul and if you do your assignments his class is an easy A. I would highly recommend him.
he's very unethical
This professor is amazing. I love listening to what he has to say during class. All the homework is on Blackboard and be prepared to read short stories from a book. News articles are due every week and in class we discuss the article that raises the best ethical issue.
One of best teachers I ever had.
Professor Dobrin is a great teacher for journalism ethics. His syllabus is jam packed, but keep you on your feet and aware of the present day news. He brings in a lot of guest speakers who really are inspirational like himself. Professor D, is a generous man and his discussions are truly an enjoyable part of any day I could be in class with him.
