Interesting class, I learned new things. He is not organized and does not follow the syllabus. He tends to let the students take over. He plays favoritism, which is not encouraging! A group presentation is required.

Quite on the contrary, of course you have to partixcipate that is a part of your grade. The man knows his stuff, I think he is a good teacher. Too bad some people don't like class discussions, then they need to take another class.

If you want an easy A or B, take his class, but on a personal level, most of his classes are sheer nonsense. Picture the Ricki Lake show. That's how his class is run, total chaos. Also get prepared to be assaulted with questionable facts.

The best professor i ever had!You will learn a lot while having so much fun. Very interested in everyone's opinion. Great class for all races.

He is a very good professor and DOES give EVERYONE a fair chance to perform well REGARDLESS of race. He is very open to challenging the facts that he distributes and those who think he is nonsense never had the gull to challenge a thing.

He teaches 2 classes at Baruch, I have taken both. Great class I STRONGLY SUGGEST TAKING HIM. You walk away from his class learning a great deal.

One of the best classes, and professors I have ever taken. He is not **** at all like others say. I'm white and Im doing very well. Very interesting. Must do the work but he rewards you for it. I look foward to every class.

Great teacher! Definitely will come out of the class learning a great deal. Even if you do not agree with the material, he teaches the importance of not accepting everything at face value and you should do your own research to confirm or refute what is presented to you.

Ok, let me break it down for you. Prof. Lewin may seem a bit pro-Black but if you can get over the fact that he thinks everything is rooted in Africa, then you will definately have fun in this class. An easy A class, all you have to do is 3 short papers and take 3 easy 25 question tests. Real easy

This class was not as interesting as I'd hope it would be. If you are into history than it's probably the class for you provided that you are open minded to Africa being the original mother land. The professor is not hard and will give you nothing less than a B if you come to class, particpate and do marginally well on exams and papers. Good luck!!

some ppl hate this class, others love it. If you like participating in class and discussing things, you will like it. Class is from the top of the professors head. He is a nice guy, but this class is surprisingly alot of work. He does give good curves, but it is not an easy A.

just show up for class and never leave early or come late. if you talk to him a lot, you dont even have to bother taking the tests. i missed 2 of the 4 tests and got a B+

Very good teacher. Class is always interesting. Most if not all the classes revolve around open discussions. 3 tests and 1 group presentation. Can make up ANY and/or ALL of the tests during finals week if you do bad the first time! Highly recommended

Dr. Lewin fosters an incredible learning environment. His class is fun, engaging, informative, and encourages differing points of view. I highly recommend this class to any serious students. Less-serious students may not get as much out of the class, however.

Dr.Lewin's class is without exception the class to be in if you seriously want to learn something about your culture. We need more professors like Dr. Lewin

VERY GREAT!! His lectures are so interesting that you want to attend. He makes you read alot, but you really learn. Even though he changes the direction of his discussion, its fun. His tests are easy if you read, three exams and three papers. If you miss any or all, he let's you make them up at the end of the semester.

Great Professor and interesting class. Great grade booster. You become culturally aware after taking this class. 3 quizes and yur good but make sure you read the books or talk alot in class in order to get the highest grade. Great honor having him as a prof.

Arguably one of the best professors in Baruch History. Classes are fun and you can take EVERY TEST over if you don't like the grade you get the first time. More than enough opportunities to get an A and you will have a lot of FUN.

Doctor Lewin is one of a kind, seriouly he is going to change your world!

Where can you find a teacher that let's you retake exams for better grades?..Professor Lewin wants you to succeed and he will help you to succeed. The reading material he selected and recommended was very credible and well-sourced, and boosted my knowledge of the subject. Both in and out of class, he's very helpful and kind.

What does his exams consists of, quizzes, essays, papers or projects?

In "Black Economic Development" class, exams were based on the previously assigned reading material. Review questions were provided. Exams were multiple choice and short answers. A few separate essays were assigned during the semester. DON'T worry, Prof. Lewin is VERY helpful and actually lets you re-take exams if you don't like your grade!

Prof is very good. He will make you work and make sure you come to class every single day. Also, you should speak up a lot. Make sure you do all the readings; he is a wonderful professor even if a little biased on Africa.

Greeeeeeeeeet professor! I can honestly say that I learned a lot from his class. The only problem I have is with his guest speaker, Persaud who keeps coming to our class and talks about things he cannot back up. Persaud is not credible. We had to read Persauds book "Making it through college" and it was full of grammatical errors.

extremely helpful, fun, respects his students and encourages everyone to participate and get to know one another, for such a anti-social school, our class was very social and cohesive it was a great feeling and hes a great professor, and he does not hate white people thats ridiculous..im white and he was nothing but encouraging and supportive!

I very much enjoyed this class; the work required was interesting and not difficult at all; the professor is very interesting and gets the class involved; he's humorous and easy going but very serious about this subject; I would recommend this class to anyone and I haven't even received my grade yet.

Great Professor/Class. Learned alot and the books were interesting. Easy to get an A if you do the work, i.e. read the 3 books entirely, take notes and participate in discussion, write good essays and memorize for test. I got an A. FYI, I've heard that the make-ups at the end are harder than tests during the regular semester, so don't miss a test.

Professor Lewin is a great professor - informative, engaged, funny, unbiased, and genuinely seems to enjoy his job. It is a black studies class so it will be about Black culture. Overall, if you are interested in actual learning, take any of his courses.

this is the second class that I took with Dr. Lewin. hes a very knowledgeable teacher, loves controversy and heated class debates,very engaged in a students opinion and even has discussions/debates going on in his office! hes definitely one of baruchs best professors, highly recommend even if you dont need the class you'll learn something new!

Prof Lewin is a great prof as in extremely informative - you will learn! You have to read books he assigns for the class and exams are based on them (he gives out review questions). Also, papers are assigned which is part of your full exam grade. Attendance and participation are also part of your overall grade for the class. He a fair grader.

I took 3 classes with Professor Lewin, and he is by far the best Professor in Baruch college and probably new york. He has inspired me in ways other professors have not. The books are great and he is amazing and smart. Take him if you want to learn and be inspired. He is justttttt brilliant

Love him!! He is a lot of fun and the books are not soooo bad, and he loves to take the class outside and do little tours of the park and stuff. The class debates do tend to get a little racially heated though. But its still awesome!

The BEST!! He is so nice and funny. Some people might think he is racially biased but he is not and remember that this is a black history class so the focus is on black history and economic development so keep an open mind. The books he gives are not that bad and the exams are based on them. The class discussions are fun which makes the class fly.

Prof Lewin is a wonderful teacher. He encourages learning through class discussions. Several books are assigned for reading. Would highly recommend taking a class with him. He is encouraging, helpful and willing to listen to all voices in the class.

This guy is such a great professor and man. He's also very smart, he's like a walking encyclopedia! haha. 3 tests on informative novels that we read throughout the semester. Also, there's a lot of heated discussions, which help you not only learn more about the topics at hand but also about your classmates. Really fun and enjoyable class.

Lewin is a smart guy. Encourages discussions. There's a lot of reading, some easy reads, some hard with a lot of dates and numbers. Tests are fairly easy and he curves. Class requires a lot of work. 3 papers. 4 tests on 4 novels, no final. Allows you to retake a test during finals week if you want. You will leave this class feeling smarter

Great guy; all he does is want every single person to participate in class discussions. If you are naturally quiet, get over it because he will find a way for you to participate. An exam for each of the 3 books assigned; gives a study guide for each- memorize those answers. + a final group presentation. Great guy, interesting class, easy A.

This was my second time taking him and I must say, you'll have fun in his class if you participate. There are a lot of interesting discussions and time tends to go by fast as a result. His tests can be annoying though because the questions are vague at times. But the books he assigns are interesting. I recommend him if you want to learn & have fun.

Hands down one of the best professors at Baruch. You will leave seeing things in a different way. Encourages class discussions, don't be afraid to speak your mind you will have fun in the process. 3 Tests, 3 papers, you can retake the tests and resubmit papers for a better grade. Great professor that makes the class really exciting. He wants you to basically have a better future. Gives you the option to retake he exams and redo the papers if you didn't get a good grade on them. Really enjoyed his class.

He is one of the best. he will make you talk in class. had to read 3 books. exams are bases on lecture and the books. 3 exams,3 papers & 1 presentation. he gave a makeup exam on final day if you miss an exam. very nice and inspirational prof. you will not get bored in his class.

Hes so inspirational. I was not interested in this topic before i took this class and I learned so much. I had to drop the course as I was hospitalized half way through but i plan to retake the course with him. The class is basically an open debate so you will have to speak up. This class will change the way you think about a lot of things.

AMAZING PROFESSOR! He is the first professor that I've had that took the class on a small field trip to study the area of Baruch College and teach us its history. Also I had a great time discussing debatable topics on subjects that isn't talk about as much. He is very considerate to students. He is unforgettable.

He is the best professor in Baruch! The ability to make the class to get involved in the tasks, group discussion and extra credit assignments makes it easy to study. The materials that he covers touch all the issues that people are having these day. Will give 3 tests for the winter session, 1 lowest will drop. All tests you can do make up.

The class is based on both the social and economic issues that plague minorities and subjects like real estate, investing, etc. The lectures are immersive and open-forum, so everyone participates. There are three tests but he allows redos at the end of the semester and three papers that don't have strict rules

Very knowledgeable on a wide range of topics. Will have discussions in and out of class. Very keen on attendance. Overall, a gem in Baruch . Would definitely recommend taking him if you are looking for an elective as a Finance, Econ or Accounting major.

Prof. Lewin is very insightful and the class is all around a joy to be a part of. Your grade will be based on a combination of few papers and tests, along with a group presentation. The tests are mostly centered around the assigned books while the papers are more so about class class discussions.

Prof Lewin was definitely the best professor I've ever had at Baruch. He taught us things that we will need for the real world. This was the only class where I learned about stocks and how to buy a house. He also had a seminar on careers and graduate school. No other professor really went over topics that mattered. He was also very accommodating.

Life-changing professor who is authentic and genuinely cares about his students. His expectations are clear so if you have the CHANCE to take one of his classes? Take it like nsssss! And yes, you of course have to do work (essays and tests on the content) at some point but it's always interesting and personalized.. I'm def taking his economics next

I took the class over 20 years ago and its impact on my life and career is still relevant. One of the only classes I ever took that prepared me for a true view of a career in media, marketing and beyond.

Best professor at Baruch! Professor's lectures are easy to understand and occasionally hilarious. We were graded 2 papers, 3 tests, and a group project. His class changed my life and provided me great life lessons. If I had to take his class again I would. He is an amazing person to talk to after classes too as he responds quick to emails.
