He is a hard grader on papers. The tests are directly from class notes.

Good teacher, helps students, but doesn't give them the answers, makes you think

Omigod, terrible. Definitely hid from him.
the web class for mass comm is good, tests are essay, t/f, m.c, fill ins all from notes and he grades hard on papers.
I love Dr. Lizie! He's a really nice guy who is really interested in his material and the enthusiasm spills into class. :oD
Dear Lizie, (Lizard) You are the most insensitive person in the world. All you do is walk like a peguin and you woddle your way home and lock yourself in you bedroom watching movies, listening to music and **** over powerpoint. Get a personality
Interesting class discussions, but papers aren't as easy as they seem. He really grades them harshly. Tests are no walk in the park either, but try your best and you'll do fine.
The worst professor I've ever had and I will never take another class from him again. He needs to get a life and stop taking out his miserable attitude on the students.
This is a good easy class, hes a great guy..but he gets a little nervous when u ask him for help, its like he doesnt wanna help you.. i did well in the class cuz i did all the work.. if u dont mind writin 3 page papers, take this class, he isntveryhelpful
I really like Arthur Lizie's class a lot. I took the web based class and found it to be much better than sitting in a classroom. I think that he was very helpful and his papers that you have to write about are actually interesting. Overall good guy.
A little short on personality but a good teacher who got me hooked on PR. I like that he had lots of experience in the field. I don't remember having to struggle very hard through this class. Pretty straightforward but useful stuff, I still use info fr
I have a huge crush on him! I can't help but agree with every other statement posted on this bulletin board. It's all true. But I can't help but be absolutely in love with Dr. Lizie . . .
Worst teacher. Gives too much work. Thinks he knows everything. He is a nerd.

Good guy
One of the worst professors that I had in college. A VERY Hard grader.... Harsh! Not very professional by way of favoring certain students! Doesn't appear 2 give help and assistance,be careful.I would advise students not to take this professor.
I really like Arthur, but he can be very condescending sometimes. He is obviously a very intelligent person, he just can be intimidating sometimes. He at least teaches interesting classes like Film or Music. Take him, do the work and use your brain and you should do well.
Boring. Informed. Intelligent. Tough grader, beyond what is reasonable. Not helpful. Too much homework. Wouldn't take the guy again. Smart guy, not a great instructor.
Lots of reading, instructions aren't always clear, exams are super hard, grades papers HARD, he doesn't follow his own grading policies so make sure you double check that you actually got the grade you deserved! Don't be intimidated by his constant criticism, its his personality.
I've taken every class he has taught. He is one of very few teachers at BSC that actually challenges his students. He makes them work/earn the grade. He favors originality, creativity and enthusiasm so if you've done poorly it's on you. Take his classes if u want a challenge, he's a great teacher.
horrible horrible horrible! *Don't Do It*
He's one of the best professors on campus in the Comm. dept. so get a class with him and work harder than you usually would. He's not the best professor you'll ever meet, BUT he will work with you at your level and push you in the direction you want to go in. a valuable asset to BSC and education. !
he's the best comm professor at BSC. timid and unsure of his teaching method at times, but a fantastic comm professor at base. Also, he used to hang out with the Murder Junkies of GG Allen!
LIZIE CAN BE TOUGH, BUT FAIR! INTERESTING MOVIE CLASSES, YOU NEED TO KNOW HOW TO WORK HIM!
he's kinda creepy.. he seems really nice though
Lizie is THE MAN. I swear to God that guy must have lost a bet to be teaching at that school to all those goons. He wants to push kids to their academic limits, but unfortunately lets kids get away with it when they don't. Honestly, the only kids who don't like him are the ones who don't bother to do the reading, or watch the movies (what kind of a jerk can't watch a movie for homework). If the student body could catch up to this guy, and appreciate what he's doing then BSC would be the next Emerson.
don't do it to your self... i was .01 point away from a complete grade and he wouldn't even give me the grade... monotone and pretty boring
class is very stupid, pointless. very tough teacher, a lot of work: papers quiz reading films handouts.
Lizie is a fair teacher. Takes attendance, quizzes are multiple choice. Doesn't answer questions all that clearly - but takes the time to try and make you understand. Has a somewhat creepy quality, but is really a nice guy under it all. If you miss a quiz, he'll let you make it up. Essays are easy.
If your a dude dont even think about taking a class.

hes not a very approachable person and he thinks he knows everything but if your a hot girl your in the clear
this guy is an **** and basically had no idea what he is talking about, if you can take a class with someone else then i recommend it. You basically need to be roger ebert to get a good grade in this class and this guy is a major creep and treats girls better then guys, i have no idea how this guy is teaching......mosse

Lizie is awesome online! Cyberspace and digital media is his world! Weekly chapter questions and comments to group members- need substance not just I agree. 1 final unique comm research paper with about 3 separate graded components ea. Take 295 first, but if not Lizie is incredible! Super helpful, clear, always available via email and office hours.
Lizzie is a hard tacher and thinks he always right even if your a hot girl it doesnt matter he calls everyones work sloppy and like to make u walk all the way to class to talk for 5 minutes n then leave, I would recomend not taking his class
need detailed answers
I would highly recommend NOT taking this class. This applies to online/in class. It may be the worst experience of ur life considering this man is a total D.BAG. He is a stiff prude who hates life and would like to bring his students down with him. The Work is not hard however dont expect to get anything but a nasty grade and a load of critisism.
Terrible. Doesn't teach, just asigns essay questions. Tons of them, and doesn't participate in class (on-line) so you don't know what he means or if you are on the wrong track. Doesn't apply himself which is a double standard he sets between himself and his students. I could learn so much more if he would actually teach. So much for communication!
Ugh... he's such a boring lecturer. Sitting through class is like torture, and then he expects you to remember stuff he talked about that wasn't on the PowerPoint. And his tests are HARD - he doesn't tell you what you're going to need to know, yet you're expected to memorize dates and directors for everything on the test. Not recommended.
He makes you work for your grade. Do the homework and pay attention and you'll do fine.
This is the worst Professor you will run into at BSU. He is rude and nasty if you question a grade that you received. Even if you work hard and watch all of the films, he only grades the discussion based on whether you completely agree with his opinion. FYI to all you comm majors - he's about to be the Chair. Good luck.
This is a really dry class but it's a good one to take if you're a Film Studies minor. The problem is, not many people take it so the class ends up being less than 10 people & while Lizie leads informative classes that are very casual, they're often very awkward. There's a 12 page final paper but it's fairly easy to write if you do the research.
Lizie is a great prof to take if you're super interested in film. He really knows his stuff & he's very open to others' thoughts & criticisms of film. He might respond w/ a challenge, but he wouldn't be doing his job if he didn't. Don't take it personally or be so sensitive. He's merely trying to make you think more critically. Great professor.
the class was amazing, I love film therefore I love the class. however Professor Lizie makes you practically beg for a good grade. you have to write paragraph long answers for one question, and he doesn't directly answer your questions either. you are basically on your own so get ready for a lot of research, and tough writing. grading is hard
Toughest grader I've ever had. You could put the same amount of energy into your homework every week, but one week you'll get a 60 and the next an 85 (but mostly 60's). Makes no sense and very discouraging. This was by FAR the class with the most work I had this semester. He's very vague with what he wants from papers but expects perfection.
Hard grader. Ask for you opinion on discussion board and somehow your opinion can be wrong?
This guy he isn't completely bad, he'll most def make you think outside the box however he's such a harsh grader and will rip you to shreds because he will ALWAYS expect more out of you. If you take this course prepare for a lot of homework, harsh grading and minimal response. But he can be cool sometimes and the films are cool.
I liked Professor Lizie. Although he is on the tougher side when it comes to grading papers, he really like tore my papers up, I still think his class was manageable. Each week we had to watch a film and answer a series of discussion questions, which I got 100s on almost all of the time and they weren't that difficult.
Would not recommend this class or Professor. Overwhelms you with so much assignments especially towards the end of the semester I couldn't even enjoy the class. Most of my time and energy went towards this class considering you have to watch hour long movies, answer long discussions, reflections, papers and even a final paper. Honestly hated it.
Great guy, very tough grader when it comes to papers, but otherwise a fair grader when it comes to participation assignments. I like reaching out to him to ask questions, and would recommend this teacher for Communications majors. If you are interested in analyzing film, have Dr. Lizie for a teacher!
I took film in Comm with him, and it was the worst. Literally working my ass off for basic passing grades. Doesn't explain what he wants at all, especially with the weekly open responses on films, and notes. If you forget to do a response you grade will sink. Honestly, if you forget about stuff and/or are busy with your ACTUAL LIFE, don't take it.
Dr. Lizie could very well have been one of the most boring professors I have had during my academic career at BSU. His film history class was enlightening but that's really about it. Dr. Lizie's profoundly neutral and monotone personality made his class very lack luster. His grading criteria and expectations are also relatively unclear.
HORRIBLE! NEVER AGAIN. DOES NOT GIVE OUTSIDE HELP! WOULD ONLY GIVE YOU NEGATIVE FEEDBACK NOTHING POSITIVE!
Professor Lizie is the WORST!!! He overwhelms you with so much work, between readings and very boring and dull movies, and essays that he's very unclear with what he wants from it. I do not recommend him. HE IS TERRIBLE!!!!!!
The thing about Lizie is that he knows what he's talking about, but he's just not a great teacher, nor is he very enjoyable. He gave me some clear feedback but I've heard from so many others that he's not clear enough. It's also just a ton of work, even for an online class. You basically have to teach yourself. Only take him if you have to.
Arthur Lizie as the chair of Communications is NOT fit to lead the COMM department . His emails are short and rude, he does not resolve issues when it comes to professors or issues in the department, and he does not care about the well being of students or their journey to graduation. I hope I never have to come in contact with him again.
Tough grader and not friendly
He's knowledgeable, but he's not good at what he teaches. With quizzes on every movie you watch, along with 2 exams, 2 papers and a final paper. It may seem easy but his unclear expectations make it pretty difficult. He's the only professor I've gotten a C in my major so far, I feel if it was with any other professor I would've got a better grade.
Avoid taking this teacher if possible! His essay guidelines are ambiguous and confusing, and you might as well not even bother asking for any clarification unless you want a rude email in return which completely disregards your questions.
Was one of the few who got an A in his Film History class. The lectures were a must-attend, and the two tests given (midterm and the final) were the two hardest tests I've ever taken, but I felt rewarded by effort I had put in. Requires more effort than your average class, but felt he provided good lectures and clear grading criteria.
Totally contradicts everything he puts on the rubrics just to make it impossible to get an A in his class
I've never met professor Lizie personally since I took his course online, but the work he laid out for the semester was easily accessible. He is a tough grader, I have received mediocre-at-best grades on all papers I turned in the semester I took his course. The guidelines for his papers and what he wants out of them can be confusing.
I took his Film Theory class in place of the senior seminar. For his online classes, you'll do fine if you keep up with the discussions but its the essays is where I struggled the most as he is super unclear about what he wants out of them. I think he's better at teaching higher level classes because I did good on the discussions for the most part.
Worst class I have ever taken at BSU. He was extremely rude and didnt care about anyones personal lives or feelings. I worked so hard in the class and never got above an 80. Only comm class I have ever almost failed. Terrible professor and would never ever take again. Avoid at all costs!!!!!!!
Harshest grader Ive ever experienced and a very uncommitted teacher. Some of my best work received C grades with no feedback. I was also accused of plagiarism and when I refuted, I was met with insults on my character. The entire curriculum used is from another person and couldnt even find the time to tell students why they received their grade.
I took 2 classes with Lizie in 2021 and both were virtual, so Ive never met the guy, but he always came off passive aggressive on BB and emails. The prompts were difficult to write about. He is an incredibly harsh grader and never really gave good feedback. The textbook was pointless. Its safe to say Ill never take another class with him again.
The workload isn't crazy but he is not flexible at all. I went to him for help and he was really rude.
Took 2 classes with him. Terrible at teaching a college course, despite knowing what he’s talking about. Assignment prompts are vague (as well as answers to questions about said papers) and you will be graded VERY harshly. seems like he should re evaluate his position as a professor (or at very least his attitude and curriculum)
This class was online so attendance wasn't mandatory but participation in weekly discussion posts was. He gives clear feedback and outlines what he expects from his students. Sometimes the essay topics can be tough but he was always available via email for questions and was willing to help. This class is a fun class to take for credit.
Horrible Professor, he is one of least understanding people I have ever met.
i took this course in the summer and would only recommend that. 4 weeks is probably enough. its a lot of reading and a ton of discussion posts (around 9) His grading is fine but his comments are kind of rude. id rather get constructive feedback than what he put. i wouldn't take another one of his courses unless i had to.
When it comes to writing directions for essays its so much but it tells you so little. Its super vague on what he actually wants you to write. I'd rather just take a test than write a paper with confusing directions. With his monotone voice and punishing you for thinking outside the box makes it incredibly hard to care about what is being taught.
I thought this course was really easy. There is a new movie almost every week, and there are quizzes on them, but if you watch them they're super easy. To be honest I didn't watch any of them I just crammed it the day of by looking up summaries and I always got an A if not a 100. I think he is a really easy grader. Not a lot of work either
I took film history with Prof Lizie, and I will never again. Attendance is NOT mandatory. I got a 44 on his midterm after getting 100's on all quizzes because the exam info isnt on the study guide he gives. He sent an email shaming me for poor exam grade and was passive aggressive in it when I asked for a make up quiz due to missing class for Dr's.
He grades easy on quizzes and then extremely difficult on essays. He made attendance not mandatory, then changed it halfway through the semester. He is rude, and doesn't at all help if you email him with a question or clarification. Instructions on essays so unclear, exams don't have the material that he gave on the study guide either. Don't bother
My last rating was removed but he is a terrible professor. Does not care about his students, especially their wellbeing. Don't take him.
took his Film History course over winter break, easy peasy I don't really get all the bad reviews seems like a super simple course, maybe it changes drastically over spring/fall. but for winter its an easy way to build your credits.
I took my First Year seminar online with him. He will post a discussion board every week different essays throughout the semester. However the minimal mistake you make over the assignments get ready to lose at least 20 points in the assignment. His instruction for the essays are not clear at all, making you lose points. No extra credit or review.
DON'T TAKE HIM!!! He could care less about your grade and it almost seems like he wants students to do bad. He is not understanding and is grades extremely hard, I took what was suppose to be an elective and it ended up as a very hard class, there are much better options then him.
Doesn't answer questions, somewhat rude. Nothing is on the syllabus, don't ask him for help. Don't take him, many other great professors.
if you ever need help in a semester, this is not the professor for you. unclear grading and assignments. not personable.
I second what everyone else here has said which is a shame because the course content is actually very interesting. Additionally, I did pretty well on all the essays yet received a B for the course, no idea why. Additionally, he does not give good, constructive feedback whatsoever: instead, he makes pretentious, borderline rude comments.
Dont take this guy!!! This is the only review I have ever done and I felt like it was needed. He was not a good porfessor at all, he was rude, and didn't want to help his students at all. Stay away!!
