Really easy, just make sure you go to lectures...He tells you not to read the book, just memorize the definitions...
if you go to class and read the vocab for each chapter the tests are not bad. but he doesnt reply to emails, doesnt speak loud, uses a lot of graphs and math, and reading the book is a waste.
to say this class is a JOKE would be the biggest understatement. my pet monkey mojo can probably ace his class. and on a side note, he constantly walks across the room while he lectures. i bet he totals like a mile each class.

go to class and everything is mad easy, no need to read book, just know definitions at end of chapter
HAVE to go to class and get notes...and kno vocab at the end of chapters...if u do those two things..its the easiest class ever
Probably about a week's worth of material spread out over an entire semester. If you don't get an A, you should transfer to clown college.
Easiest A at Rutgers. All exams and final are 20 M/C questions, and the answer is never ever none of the above. Gotta come to class though, especially for the computational models in the latter half of the course. Book is useless except for vocab (hint)
Go to class and take notes and memorize the definitions in the book, thats all you need to get an A. He starts class 20 minutes late and always ends at least 10 minutes early. His lectures are repetitive too, so the material overlaps every lecture.
The exams are quite easy as long as you memorize definitions and paid attention in class.
15 years later, I bet he's still wearing the khaki pants with the white short sleeve dress shirt and the dark blue sleeveless pullover sweater...am I right??? anyway, he's a good guy. and if you pay attention in his class you'll do well.
don't really need to book. If you don't go to class go to first class and buy the notes. They proved to be very helpful for a class I really was not interested in.
Stay away from this guy. He is arrogant and completely unapproachable. He makes everything a lot more complicated than it needs to be. You can study your butt off and still get a B(I went to class). YOU HAVE TO GO TO CLASS!
If you go to class and study the vocab. from the book you will do well. He is not friendly though. Also, he wears the same clothes EVERY SINGLE DAY.
exams r semi-difficult. study the vocab n go to every class. MUST GO TO CLASS FOR NOTES!! lots of charts and mathematical equations. sumtimes confusing. ends class early half the time by like 30 mins. DONT TAKE THIS CLASS FOR AN EASY A!!
Class is not very easy.the mathematical models he uses are very confusing.he does not seem to be very approachable.Must go to class & know vocab at the end of each chapter.
he looks like overweight jackie chan... easy course, he pronounces somethings funny and it makes you laugh, easy, example before = befowah! and people run around naked in the class.
he does not do well as a professor in my opinion. Needs to stick to the research.
Dont go to class you will sleep ...HARD ... pay for semester first class notes share with friends to split cost and photo copy notes ..ohhh and there is math ...alot for no damn reason this is not quan meth, the devil is rapant in the psych department
Yeah, he's a pretty bad professor. He has an arrogant aura about him. Tells you straight up he'll delete your emails asking for help unless in yes/no format. Boring, a little tough. Must go to class and study.
I thought that, at best, some of the lectures may have been a bit interesting but he did say not to email him or he wouldn't answer it, he always seemed rushed and uninterested in answering any questions and the exams contained miniscule details. Horrible
Horrible, monotonous, repetitive, boring teacher. don't bother to read the book at all, just read the definitions at the end of the chapters. One of the worst classes ive taken at rutgers.
He is an arrogant and overall just a mean human being. He thinks his rats are the only important thing in psychology. Class in boring and repetitive and you won't take anything useful away from this class. I definitely recommend taking another professor!
#1 **** in the psych department. I came 20 minutes early to his office hours and he made me leave w/o answering any questions. Definitly looks like a fat jackie chan w/ a pompus attitude. Constantly talks down to class about how mostly everyone will drop out. He should not be teaching
Dont take this class if u think its gona b an easy A...definately wasnt- hes mean and hard, he repeats himself every class and ull def fall asleep in alllll his lectures. take another professor.
He was boring and hard to understand. His exams were based on memorizing the def at the end of ch. Waste of time dont learn anything but voc words.
SUX...
His exams were half on vocabulary. Long as you go to class and take notes, you should be good. He's really boring and sarcastic.
he is an ass and what not but the class is INCREDIBLE easy with him. just know the vocab and take notes. the math involved a monkey could do. dont buy the book just photo copy someones vocab pages at the end of each chapter.
I took this prof 4 years ago, and he was so rude and obnoxious. He lost one of my exams and balmed me for it. I agree with the other postings, he is a horrible teacher.
hard, horrible professor, no curve, no online notes, exams mostly from lecture,"text" book doesn't cover the same material he talks about in class, can't lecture, obsessed w/ certain topics. he shouldn't be teaching.
HE WAS TERRIBLE! HE USED THE SAME GRAPH FOR EVERY EXAMPLE AND WAS VERY MONOTONE! HIS BOOK AND LECTURE HAVE NO CORRELATION AND I WASTED MY MONEY TAKING HIS CLASS! HE IS EXTREMELY BORING AND HE MAKES NO SENSE HALF THE TIME. DON'T TAKE THIS TEACHER!
Besides Deborah Bryant, probably the worst psych professor at Rutgers. Book and lecture dont correlate. BEWARE exams are 20 questions and are worded in the negative ("Which of the following is false") with very minute detail seperating the answers, which make them very hard. PLEASE take with sumone else! I wish sumone warned me about the tests!
Not only is Tomie a horrible professor, he is also a heartless person. My father died the week of the final and Tomie had the most disrespectful, inhumane response to my situation. I inquired about help several times while my father was sick, and he never responded or attempted to help.Do not take him and encourage him to continue teaching
I thought the class was cool. He goes over and over relevant info. No attendance(lecture). Don't need 2 read book, only study definitions at end of chapters-i got an 'a'. 4 tests-drops lowest and u have the option not to take one + a final. all tests 20 questions(even the final)and they get easier as the semester wears on, but u must attend class.
I liked the class. 4 exams, drops the lowest, and a final, all MC. Don't need to read the book (though I did), just study vocab at end of chapter. You really need to go to class, he goes over and over the relevant information. Largely math based. I never missed class, read chapters, and got an A.
DO NOT TAKE HIM!! people say he's easy but isnt! his exams are worded very badly and are NOT easy! the book is irrelevant to what he teaches! all he cares about is vocab. Hes dry and boring but u HAVE to go to class or ur screwed...take another professor or u'll regret it...hes the worst! 4 exams and he drops the lowest..but they will ALL be LOW!
he really wasn't that bad.. he definitely knows his stuff. offers researching opportunities. short and easy tests, all you need from the text is the vocab, the rest are from his lectures. you MUST attend because you're gonna write alot, but the notes are really straight-forward. might switch projections fast, but will slow down if you ask him to.
do not take him test are extreley hard and uses huge words for not reason...
VERY easy class, just go to lecture and pay attention. Make sure you UNDERSTAND the concept, which should be easy since he goes over everything like 3 times. Just pay attention in lecture, and all you'll have to study is the vocab for the class, I got an A, with at most an hr of studying before each exam, even the final.
Most definitely the easiest class i've ever taken at Rutgers as it has dethroned the reigning champion, Jan Molhman's Abnormal Psychology, in a landslide. Every other lecture is a review, exams take 15 minutes, and the book is only necessary for the glossary at the end of each chapter. I often asked myself, "how is this a college level class?"
His exams are worded very tricky, but if you actually go to class and read the glossary of terms for the exam you will be out of there in 20 minutes tops. He isn't very interesting but does drop the lowest test score, i did badly on one test and still got an A in the class...thank you Dr. Tomie!!
This class was really hard.. concepts are very far fetched and even if u go to every class you will still struggle.. you only need the vocb from each chapter so don't buy the book, just photocopy someone's.. 5 exams, 20 ques each, 1 test is dropped.. overall i would not recommend this class
Class easy as hell but still kinda interesting - studied 30 minutes for each exam and got three perfect scores and one 18/20 - easiest stuff ever. I know prof. Tomie from lab and he is a lot more personable in lab, but in class he is kinda dry. ALWAYS wears the same blue vest - lol. Overall, just study a bit and read vocab before class - easy A
ok this class is not as easy as other people make it sound. I took this class after checking the ratings and found out that the glossary covers only about 6 questions out of the 20 on the exams. the bigger portion of the exam is from the lectures. so make sure u attend ALL lectures. he repeats everything (it gets boring) but its good review!
This class might seem easy but its not. He gives 20 question exams so its very easy to get a couple wrong. Vocabulary consist of only 5 to 6 questions, everything else comes from the lectures. So it is very important to attend every lecture and pay attention. He repeats himself a lot and that helps. Take good notes and study well before exam.
His tests are impossible, the text book does not correlate with the class, and the notes in class are ridiculous. You have to go to class, and I went every time and still managed not to do well.
It's not so bad. If you've already taken 313 or are taking them together, it's cake, really. He tends to pick a point and beat it to death for an entire lecture, so at some point in the hour and a half you're in there, you're bound to figure out what's going on. Read the few pages in the book that he tells you to and you've got an easy A.
Tomie is honestly the best professor I've ever had...He explains everything very clearly and the class is actually really interesting...His tests are a little difficult but as long as you go to class it's pretty easy to get an A.
don't buy the book get the copy the prof. has on reserve & copy vocab. 20 ?s, 5 testa:6 vocab, mainly the rest r from lecture. He's monotone, but good @ explaining! May seem redundant, but that's b/c he wants you to get it! Study group leaders tell u what's on the test (prof. tells them) + it may help ur grade. Tests r wordy so study lecture notes!
Go to lectures and pay attention. He doesn't post notes online so you must attend class. Doesn't follow the book, just uses the vocab. Tests are wordy and tricky and a lot of repetitive questions. Attend the review sessions and it should help a lot.
he is a bit boring and dry but his tests are fairly easy...told to read the book but only uses the definitions for the test...1st two tests are ok but last 2 tests plus final is EASY--just need your calculator and the definitons...drops one of the tests (not the final)...if you can add two plus two and do simple formulas, you'll do fine
Little repetitive in lecture but only because he's very adamant about making sure you understand . Math involved is mostly equation plug-ins and knowing how to read tables. Go to lecture, take good notes because his tests are mostly lecture based. (when I took the class, book use was very light) Also, he's hysterical when he tells family stories.
Not a bad class, just a little hard to pay attention in lecture. Go to class. Don't buy the book, just borrow it at one of the libraries and copy the key terms. You won't use it for anything else.
Had him for Conditioning and Learning. It's not so bad. 4 exams, drops the lowest, plus a non-cummulative final. You MUST attend lecture, because he doesnt put the notes online and the tests are all about the notes, plus 5-6 questions from vocab- don't buy the book. The first exam is the hardest. I studied well and went to class and got an A.
His class really isn't that bad. Just make sure you actually go to class to get the notes. There's four non-cumulative exams and the lowest is dropped, and a final which (also non-cumulative) can't be dropped.Go to class, take notes, go to the study groups and you're guaranteed a B+. The textbook is only used for vocab. Would definitely recommend.
The exams can be tricky, lot's of 'which of these statements is false' questions. It helps if you find someone to study with. He's a riduclously boring lecturer, but gives all the notes in lecture. He wears the same sweater vest everyday lol. 4 midterms, drops the lowest, which really helps. Not my favorite class, but it's doable. I pulled out an A
This is a no-nonsense Prof. Show up, take notes, tow the line and there won't be a problem. The guy is a brilliant mathematician, but he's not an entertainer. If you're expecting fun and games this isn't your class. After all, the guys a war hero. He's not there to tap dance.
Worthless class. I've never had a professor who knew what he was talking about be so bad at teaching. I learned close to nothing in this class, and became so fed up with it that I just stopped going. The lectures were unbearably boring, but at least the class itself was pretty easy. Nonsense material...horrible orator.
Lectures are quite boring, mostly just because more than half is reviewing from the previous class. Exams are very easy though because none of them cover much material. Seems like a nice enough guy and definitely very smart. So what if he's not exciting? Class was easy, doubt it would be much more interesting with anyone else anyway. Just take it!
Easiest class ever...really dried but who cares;vYou learn what you are suppose to. 4 hoursly (20 MCs) and a final (20 MCs)NON CUM...can drop one. I studied 1 hr before each one. Scored 19,19,19 and a 20 on final. Skipped one exam.
I am an econ major first off. This class is somewhat neuro based. 3 hourlys (20 MCS) and 1 20 MC NON ****final. Got 17, 20, 21, and 20 on final. One extra point is usually given for the level of difficulty of the exams. Average is 15 and 16. Seriously, just gotta go to class and take notes. Never went to reviews either. I recommend him.
Very Monotone. Easy A class if you are good with simple math! His lectures are very dry and boring and he talks more about his own research more than anything. The only sad part about this class is that you have to attend his lectures and take notes and learn the vocabs from text book!
He's a really easy professor....if you just memorize the vocab, you're good b/c that's most of the exams....30 ?'s MC....4 exams....drops the lowest, there's also a final but it's not cumulative... material is very easy to understand and if you know all the math models he talks about u would definitely get 100% for that part of the exam.
Incredibly easy. Non-cumulative exams and drops the lowest. I found the concepts to be simple... If you're no good with math, then I can see this being more difficult... but seriously. easy stuff.
don't buy the book! go to the library & photocopy the vocab at the end of each chapter! simple math is used in this class. 4 tests [one is dropped] and a final. he uses the overhead a lot. i liked this class.
Extremely boring, but also really easy, test based on notes.
Okay professor, a little boring but explains very deeply and clearly. Repeats his stuff over and over again so students will really understand. This guy goes at a pace even slower students can follow. Easy if you study (even if just a little).
he is a bad prof. He turns learning into a game show & u really do not learn anything. Doesn't mostly base material on book. Mostly his math graphs; sort of like a bad economics course(except u draw the graphs!) Its elitist/degrading that he takes our top classmates for studygroups.
This class has to be one of the easiest classes at RU. Four 30-ques exams (the lowest is dropped) plus a 30-ques "final". All non-cumulative. Exams consist of half vocab from text, half material from class. Best part is the study groups before each exam where sample questions are given, some of which are the same as the exam ques. Prof is good.
He is super clear and makes sure that people thoroughly understand the material. Exams are easy because they are half vocab and half materal. Plus he offers these study groups where the leader gives you 8 answers to each exam! I got a 100% on the first exam and only 1 wrong on the following exams. TAKE THIS CLASS WITH THIS PROFESSOR!
Really, really boring. Exams are easy and they only require the vocab from the end of the chapters + course material. If you don't go to class, you may find the math (especially the later exams) tricky, but not difficult. Go to a review session for each exam and get anywhere from 8-15 questions.
Easy class as long as you learn the math and the vocab at the end of each chapter. Not necessary to read book. Go to class to learn the math..I'm not a math person and I found it pretty basic. Go to review sessions and 10 exact questions on the exam. I got an A.
If you need an easy A/B, take it. Material stinks, but Tomie provides study group sessions with "sample" questions that will greatly help you on the tests. Material seems outdated, and boring. Not a class to take if you want to be intellectually challenged, but one to take if you are overburdened with hard classes and need a breather.
the only class i have taken at RU that i literally got NOTHING out of taking it. the lectures were unbelievably boring...i had uncontrollable passing out episodes 5 minutes in. psych classes are easy...wish i took something a little harder but learned smthng. also, he stretches out a 30 minute lecture into an 80 minute one. that was very annoying.
Nice, chill guy. But I thought the subject material was kind of hard and a science background would of been helpful. If it weren't for the review sessions before every exam where you're pretty much given half the test answers, I prob would of failed. Ended up getting a B+ but for a Psych elective class, I thought it'd be easier.
this might have been the EASIEST class i have ever taken in my life. the review sessions are extremely helpful. class is not mandatory. little effort to get an A ... anything lower than a B+ then theres something wrong with you..
... never paid attention to one lecture.. not a very good lecturer.. don't really need any prior knowledge for this class.. don't really need to use your brain.. just memorize vocab and calculations. go to study sessions for 10 free exam questions. and you'll get an A.
Got an A without paying attention/understanding anything he was talking about. GO TO ALL THE REVIEW SESSIONS! Memorize the 10 questions they give you, memorize the vocab, and hope for the best on the rest and you should be fine.
Loved him! He is the most considerate teacher I've had in such a large lecture! Really cares about his students and about helping them make the most of the their time here at RU. Very straight forward class, study vocab, get answers in review session and study slides and lecture notes, guaranteed A.
Amazing professor and a great mentor. He's very considerate and patient. Provides opportunities for students to learn further and he's an overall wonderful person.
This class is a business transaction - Tomie gives you a boring but easy class, you take it, and he gets to continue his research at Rutgers. Tomie doesn't even try to hide it - study sessions are provided with half the answers to the test. Ridiculous, but good if you need a light class. Just dont think you can skip class - material can get tricky.
Rude and egoistical. Doesn't explain anything clearly and expects you to know it! Most boring lectures ever! EXTREMELY LAZY WHEN IT COMES TO MAKING NOTES OR EXAMS...Practically gives you all the answers on the exam! He should just post his exams online instead!
Easy class. but this guy has no respect for his students. he treats students like they're just pieces of meat. also, he's the most boring lecturer i've ever seen.
Honestly, the easiest class I've ever taken at Rutgers. I went to class a total of two times the entire semester and got an A. He gives 10/30 questions on each exam during the review sessions (except for the first exam). Exams are online except for the final and come straight from his notes. You will learn nothing but are almost guaranteed an A.
Extremely easy. 3 online exams, 1 in class final (all non cumulative). Gives 10 answers for each exam (except the first one) in review sessions. Some students have all the exam questions for all the exams. Ruhomework at hotmail sells them. easiest A ever at rutgers
Teacher is apathetic towards teaching and students. Little to no interest in teaching or student learning. If your still considering taking this course, it's an easy A or B.
Go to study groups, you learn everything there. Pretty easy class, 3 online exams drops lowest 1 midterm and final. Just study definition (you can find online dont need book),slides and what questions u get in group
Worst professor! Having exams online sounded great at first but all of the exams were very difficult, not to mention that the final was much more difficult. He does not respond to emails or curve. The TA is the only way of contact. His lectures are very boring and tedious since he just repeats the material over.
Very straightforward class if you go to class and attend the review sessions you will do fine in the class. He is a little boring but explains things very well.
He isn't as bad as people say. 5 online exams and drops the lowest one. Answers for exam are straightforward from the textbook and notes. A little bit of easy math which seemed to haunt a few psych majors lol. Overall easy course
Great Professsor, really knows his stuff. Three midterms and one final. Drops lowest midterm score. GO TO HIS REVIEW sessions before his exam, very helpful!!
3 open-book online exams and one is dropped, and one final. I did not like how he would not answer questions during lecture. He doesn't even look at his students, he talks to the back wall. Go home and take organized notes of the slides, and use them for exam. Don't even have to show up. I would fall asleep anyway from boredom.
Boring.. so, so boring. I struggle to stay awake in class (if I even go) with his monotone voice. Also, he doesn't have 5 online exams anymore!! Three online, one midterm in class, and one final in class (in class exams are hard because you obviously can't use notes...) The study groups really don't help too much either. Just take a different class
3 online tests and 1 is dropped (EASY). 2 in class exams (mid-term and final) -- SUPER EASY --- but you HAVE TO GO TO CLASS and actually pay attention, dont be on FB and other nonsense. Review for exams helped, he gave you questions straight from the test. Lectures are a bit dry but you learn, easy A. Also- enough opportunities for extra credit.
He was gorgeous. I love him
I recommend Tomie. I find myself fascinated in his lectures. He does not make it hard to follow his lectures. In fact, he goes out of his way to make sure you understand in more practical terms (Through the uses of multiple examples on the subject and example exam questions). Very articulate. Pay attention and you'll get the grade you want.
He's a really knowledgeable, albeit sometimes boring, guy. But he wants his students to do well. He wants you to know the information. He isn't out here to trick you. Exams are fairly easy, he reviews, and drops a poor grade. Fair as could be. Go to lecture. It's a must. But overall, he's not as bad as people say. There are far worse professors.
I think he's the worst. I took him for M&E and C&L and he taught the same material for both. He just lectures on his current research which does nothing to further addiction studies imo. He only does this for the research money it's so obvious. If you're into an incredibly easy class though, where you learn nothing this is the place for you.
A pushover for grading. Half of your grade is 2 online exams, plus an insane amount of extra credit. Just memorize the book vocab and go to class and you'll get an A. His lectures are interesting at first, but become long and redundant. The final was based on one lecture he kept repeating. You also have to read some awful children's book he wrote.
Tomie is a friendly researcher. Lectures are boring but straightforward (if repetitive), and tests (2 online, 2 in class) increase in difficulty (in PSY364). He offers many extra credit opportunities- take them all. Helpful in office hours. TEXTBOOK IS A MUST- a good 2/3 of the tests are from it. He's just average. You need to go to the class.
Overall a great professor,& his lectures are quite interesting if you actually pay attention to them. His knowledge in the process of drug addiction is out of this world. He gives 2 online tests and 2 in class, both which consist of 30 MC. He is extremely generous with extra credit points that could be earned. Take him!!
first of all he doesnt teach anything about motivation and emotion. he uses this class to speak about his research and requires us to buy 3 books he's written. the only time we learned anything about emotions was from the book that he never went over. it is an easy A but miserable class
Stop complaining about having to go to class and actually having to listen to the lectures. That is what you're paying for when you go to college right? Repetitive? Maybe. Welcome to psych where you will continue to hear the same big names and big research studies in most of your classes. If you don't like it now then change your major.
I absolutely loved this class. I especially loved the material that he taught us. We learned about basic neuropsych things in terms of emotional disorders AND drug use. yup, the motivation is about addiction and drugs! I thought it was fun. Seriously interesting material, and he practically gives you the answers to 10 questions on every exam.
Tomie is a decent guy, but a horrible professor. I am taking learning and behavior with him this spring semester; to put it bluntly, he can't teach. There are 2 online tests and 2 in class tests, and 6 points worth of extra credit that determines your grade. He is terrible at explaining material, and will barely tell you whats on the exam.
At first, the class seems like it's going to be interesting. However, as you progress throughout the semester, the material tends to be repetitive and dry. This class is not so bad 2 online exams 2 in person exam. Beware that you on sakai you can't go back on a question. He gives a lot of extra credit so it's not so bad! Overall, decent class
I took Tomie for Learning Processes. 4 exams, 2 were online. His lectures are a bit dry and repetitive, but he clearly is so passionate about this subject. His class was centered around drug addiction, so take him if that interests you. Also heavy on math modules. Fairly easy class if you learn the simple math and memorize book definitions.
I HATE THIS PROFESSOR!!!! He is incredibly rude and only cares about his stupid raccoon books (which are horribly written by the way). If you want an easy grade take him, but you won't learn anything, he even makes kids "donate" money to his book cause for extra credit, he will not care about you or your grades
After taking this class, I must say one thing. This teacher is one of the worst I have ever had. He actually yells at students for stupid questions and he teaches some of the most boring things. My recommendation: take this class for the easiest A ever and forget about this guy immediately after. Easiest class ever tho!
Easy A but he is pretty rude. You have to read his children's books as he puts questions from them on the exam, but overall it was easy. Recommend if you need a GPA booster.
his lectures at first seem boring and hard to understand. But you HAVE to go to class because some of what he lectures about is not in the textbook. he takes attendance randomly for extra credit. Posts power points on Sakai. 2 online exams 2 in class exams is your grade. If you go to class and read the book(key terms) you will pass.
Most boring professor ever. I learned more from the power points than I did going to class. Class is optional but you get extra credit points just by attending, which really boosts your grade. He emphasizes his raccoon books and the textbook in his tests. overall, if you can avoid taking this class, please do.
Tomie talks a lot about drug addiction. That's really the topic of the class. Makes you read his raccoon stories. I went to lecture took semi decent notes some days, he give 4 EC points for coming to 4 of 5 random lecture attendance events during the semester. Exams are from lecture and the book 2 ONLINE exams, 2 in class cumulative midterm & Final
I took this class thinking it would be an easy A... nope. Very dry lecturer, extremely repetitive. The material itself is interesting but not explained in the best way so It was very hard for me to pay attention. An A is doable if you read the textbook ad know the vocab, which he rarely discusses in class. E.C for random attendance checks!
This class was my hardest for the semester. Professor Tomie simply reads over the difficult material instead of actually teaching it, and the material is repetitive. There are 4 opportunities to get extra credit based on random attendance, but other than that your grade is entirely based on your 4 exam scores. Wouldn't recommend this class.
Absolutely boring, his lectures are repetitive. He repeats almost every sentence over again, and repeats lecture once or twice. Monotone voice. Exams are based off of lectures and key terms from the book, but the book and the lecture never cover the same material. 2 extra credit opp. but he gives points on the in-class exams. 2 online exams.
Professor focused on material about "addiction" when the class is not about addiction at all. Very boring and repetitive, I believe he used the same lecture slides for three lectures in a row without introducing new material at all. Doesn't even require the textbook other than the end of chapter terms and asks for them word for word.
Boring lecturer obsessed with drug addiction, voice will put you to sleep. Fair grader, and if you attend class tests won't be too difficult, but lectures can be mind-numbing at times. Go to office hours for math explanations (also, he's the only professor who teaches 311 with math, no one else does. Attendance gives extra credit. Eh class overall.
I'm not one to often be bored in class, but Dr. Tomie's class was the exception to the rule. He speaks slowly, monotonously, and in a condescending manner. He does not teach what the class is supposed to be about, rather discusses his drug addiction research ad nauseam, which could be summarized in 3 classes max. A bait and switch if you ask me.
There are 2 types of students, those who just care about earning grades and those who want to learn. If you are the former, then take this class (311). You will get bored sure, but easy A if you memorize well. If you are the latter, however, then avoid this class. He teaches hardly anything course related but rather only focuses on drug addiction.
I've had Dr. tomie twice already and he teaches absolutely nothing. If you come to class & pay attention you'll be okay. He goes on the worst tangents that you forget what universe you're on. He is very one of those professors that only cares about research. If you took him before then take this class again bc it's almost the same lecture again
If you go to lecture and take notes you will be fine. He leaves blanks in his powerpoints so I would suggest going to most lectures (especially for class attendance extra credits points that add up which is super helpful). His lectures are very dry but you will eventually get the hang of his teaching style. Most of his exams are based on lecture
Very, very dry lectures. He gets extremely off topic and will talk about the same slide for 45 minutes. He is generous with extra credit points though. This class wasnt what I expected to learn, since all he talks about is drug addiction.
Great
The class was not at all what I expected. It was all about drug addiction. He tends to rant a lot about the same slide + repeats the same thing in multiple classes. He was a little bit dry but he knew his material. Generous with extra credit and as long as you go to class and take notes, you'll be fine. the exams are easy and he covers everything.
Professor Tomie is very passionate about his research and makes that clear in his lectures. I personally struggled to stay focused in lecture because he will occasionally go on tangents that are hard to follow. His exams are straight forward for the most part if you complete the readings. Also offers many extra credit opportunities.
He's not a bad guy but a terrible teacher. He gives lots of extra credit which I would definitely recommend attending. Went to lecture just to get the notes because the slides he posts have missing info so people go to class to get it. Online exams are actually challenging. You have to read his own poorly written childrens books for exams.
Boring, dry lectures that make it hard to pay attention. Online tests are taken straight from the slides (so go to class and get the notes) and his books are mandatory. Textbook was expensive and not worth it. He gives extra credit which saved me in the end! Heard he can be rude to his TA's, otherwise he was alright. Would not take him/other course
honestly I wouldn't waste my time taking this class. there is no clear agenda and he will literally talk about the intro slide for 25 minutes and then fly through the rest. you can't even look at his powerpoint online because he takes out slides so you come. DONT TAKE THIS CLASS IT HAS NO RELEVANCE!!!!
Most dreadful class I have ever taken. Would rather watch paint dry. talks about same thing over and over and over without even putting up a single slide. Help yourself and do not take.
will never take another class with him again. He mumbles everything and you cannot hear or understand him. Drags on and on for one slide then has to rush everything else, leaves things out of the powerpoint he puts on sakai. Only grades are based on exams and attendance which is taken randomly. One or two extra credit opportunities.
BORING
Im not kidding when I tell you hes probably the worst Professor at Rutgers. Most boring, irrelevant lectures and has absolutely nothing to do with the title of the class. He loves talking about biology and drugs thats literally all you learn. whatever you do GO TO CLASS BECAUSE THE EXTRA CREDIT MAKES A DIFFERENCE. Missed an A by 2 points DO EC.
Lectures are really boring, but sometimes comes out of nowhere and says some very deep things, how this course material could help with grad school, how we should try to be friends with smart people, those talks really shook me. Other than that, I did 0 effort and got a B, any decent student who takes notes and know's what's going on should get A.
I loved him. All those people who write how boring he is probably have no real interest in the course and its contents. He is an extremely clear, coherent, intelligent, gives relevant and real life based examples. 4 straightforward exams, he also gives an extra group presentation credit that will bump you up a letter grade. You will LEARN!
Unnecessarily hard class. The last two exams are based off a book he wrote (he just wanted students to put some money in his pockets because it was essentially a repetition of his lectures), and I can honestly say I have gotten nothing out of this class. Grade is based off 4 exams, with horribly worded questions. Would not recommend lol
I took Dr. Tomie for two courses this sem; LP&ME. I feel like the majority of the lectures were about drugs. He does offer extra credit that essentially raises your grade by a letter grade, highly recommend doing it because his exams are weirdly worded. You do have to work for the A and I still feel as though I didn't learn much at all, unfortunate
