Arthur is the coolest hippie teacher I know. He teaches an awesome class.
The lectures are really boring but the teacher's pretty cool. The tests are impossible. But i guess i would reccommend this class to someone.
He tells you everything you need to know for the tests, just make sure that you go to class regularly. He's fairly interesting and the class material itself is really easy.

Dr. Trese is very knowledgeable and has a passion for teaching. I loved this man to death and will try to take more classes with him. He is very fair and helpful.
Great professor. He keeps class material interesting and varied. Some will find lectures boring I suppose, but I thought the class was very interesting. The tests aren't hard...Just study the notes!
LOVED this class. Nicest, funnest guy. Topics are interesting too. Great tier class.
GREAT TEACHER, he makes class fun and interesting
Very interesting class! Nice and funny teacher. He tells you whats going to be on the tests just need to study!
does an all around great job!
Waste of time, the class is over 200 people, the guy makes you swipe your id to take attendence everyday, if you miss one day you start missing points. Someone needs to tell this hippie to go back to the sixties.
I had him for Pbio 100 too. The reason Im taking 103 is because he rocks and I wanted him again. I'm sad someone told him to go back to the sixties because hes the coolest prof Ive had!
This guy is awesome! He is so energetic and enthusiastic about everything. He makes the material so interesting. The tests are not hard as long as you take notes. He always does something fun. I am going to take him again for PBio103, because he is the best prof I have had here.
Tries to be funny and hip, but annoys. He goes through a lot of material, so you'll be writing a lot. And then on an exam he'll ask for small details re:something he might not have touched on much in class. You have to swipe your id everyday, so you don't want to miss. Big plus: no books required!
Amazing teacher, keeps it interesting. Loved the class, and it was very fair as far as testing was concerned.
This guy is cool but he asks the most random questions in class. He'll pick out one student and ask them where maple syrup comes from. He loves to talk about sugars too. If you have him in class you'll notice he pronounces it shugarr. But the class is easy and is a good one to take.
To clear things up--HE IS NOT HOT! Anyways he is clear and had very detailed interesting power point lectures, but his test are impossible--he picks out the smallest details and they have lots of short answers and essays.
Art Trese Is the Bomb!! His tests aren't impossible at all. I slacked off a lot and still did decently. He makes everything so interesting and he won Prof. of the year last year...sooo oviously he is doing something right. He's really helpful and fun!! My friends and I all love Arthur!
Trese is awesomeness personified! His class was so interesting and he really wants his students to succeed. Take him if you know what's good for you!
Very interesting teacher, i recommend him to anyone.
Great professor. If you come to class, pay attention and participate, there is no reason you should not get an A. I just study the notes the day before the test and it works. He is very reasonable and listens to his students
Actually, to clear things up, he IS hot. Arthur Trese is awesome. He is such a cool guy, really nice and funny. You need to know a lot of dates and numbers on the tests but it's not hard. Dr. Trese, if you read this, you rock.
ART IS AMAZING...IF U PAY ATTENTION IN CLASS AND HAVE HALF A BRAIN U WILL GET AN A. IF U NEED PBIO TAKE THIS CLASS!!! I HAVE NEVER BEEN THIS EXCITED ABOUT PLANTS.
He is an amazing professor. If you have to take the cours, take his lab. It's not hard it's focus is for things teacher's can do with students from k-3rd grade. It's a lot of fun. Really study for his tests- he will pick out some details to focus on. Don't study the review sheets to much.
I LOVE ART TRESE!!!! This teacher is simply one word: ****! Take as many classes as you can...He is so fun and engaging
Take this class even if you dont need it along with the lab. It will open your eyes to how important plants are to us and how useful they really are. By far the best Prof @ OU
I did not like this class. I went everyday but didn't do well on tests. I learned alot of interesting random facts but ended with a C. Same note taking and powerpoints everyday. I dozed off alot. However, Art Trese shows great enthuasium for his subject matter. I wouldn't take another PBIO though.
Really great guy, interesting class, you will walk away knowing something!

I love his classes. As long as you took notes you could easily pass his tests. A lot of the course material is really interesting too. I'd highly reccomend him to anyone.
Best professor I ever had! Presents interesting material, very fun to listen to, great sense of humor, I remember almost everything he ever said in class to this day. HIGHLY recommend!!
you will learn alot but your either getting a B or a C. i thought this was a freken blow off class..but how i was wrong. his tests are hard there is no way to study them besides going to every class and taking notes on every lecture. there is not text to follow.
Just a word of advice: this isn't a blow off class. It is relatively easy if you actually go to class, take notes, and study a little. He's a really nice guy and it comes through in his teaching. He presents the material clearly on powerpoints and he will stress the important stuff you need to know. He is an excellent professor.
He is an EXCELLENT professor. I agree that it is not a blow off class, but he spends time on his lectures, is very informative, and just a lot of fun. Just study and come to class and you will be fine. He's great!
Great teacher, very enthusiastic and well prepared. Lectures are easy to follow as well. I don't care about plants at all but I still thought his classes was fun and interesting. Take as many classes off him as you can.
Arthur is so happy to be teaching. He is a very nice professor and relatively easy to understand. I havent studied much, and have managed to pull a B-. Studying would get you an A :). Overall, good class.
This is the BEST teacher i have ever had! he's very insightful, open minded, creative, and is an great public speaker. I learned a lot in the class and the material is interesting. i would highly recommend the class to anyone!
If you take him, GO TO CLASS. I went every day but my friend didn't, I got an A and she got a C.
Everyone else has described him well. He's smart, a good lecturer, interesting, and entertaining. Sure you have to write a lot of notes, but this is COLLEGE so get used to it! Sure you have to GO to class, geez what do people want?! I've taken both 100 and 103, and they were both extremely interesting and straightforward/easy (A's in both).
Great Professor!
Awesome class. Take the lab too. Great professor keeps my attention every day. I love PBIO!
No textbook, just a lot of powerpoints (that he doesn't just read) that are used to get your notes. Attendance is required, which isn't a big deal because you have to go to class to get the notes anyways. Great guy, excellent lecturer. Tests are kinda tough, just be sure to take the notes and study well.
Good teacher, makes a boring topic really fun. However, go to the class! I didnt go and lost points on random inclass assingments I ended up with a 75, had I beent here for the 20 missed points I'd have gotten a 80.5 GO GO!
Definitely the best way to start out my freshman year! He's an awesome prof who is obviously passionate about his subject. I would definitely recommend him and the class. Lots of interesting info to use in the real world.
Very interesting class. Lots of useful information. There's no book, it's all powerpoint notes. As long as you go to class everyday and memorize the notes for the tests, you'll be able to get an A. Take 100 and 103, they're both good classes.
my favorite professor at this school
He is easily my favorite professor at this university. He could be telling you when and how you'll die and it'll be fun. If you see his name next to a class, sign up for it!
I absolutely LOVE art. I have taken 3 classes with him so far because I just love how he teaches. He is such a cool, down to earth teacher and I would recommend him for every class! Tests aren't hard, easy in class points just for being there, and no book! SO NICE! :)
AMAZING, amazing teacher. He cares so much about the topic, which makes you want to be there and listen to him. The tests are very easy if you study the notes and do the external links. I learned many useful things from the class - would recommend it to anyone even if it's not required - but be sure to take Art Trese!
Art Trese is a great man, this class is truly interesting. It will open your ideas. If you attend class, its mandatory, and read the online text he gives you. There is no reason not to get an A. However do try and put the level effort and interest into the class that he does it was worth it.
I loved this class and Professor Trese. He is genuinely interested and involved in what he teaches. There is no book and all of his lectures are on power points so you need to go to class. The lectures are VERY interesting and made me more conscious of current environmental issues. He is a fun guy and jokes around so the class is very enjoyable.
He's got a great sense of humor! You will die laughing- he really tries to make the art of powerpoint interesting, and it rocks.
Art Trese has a good sense of humor and has a pleasant vernacular. Only problem is that this class is extremely note-intensive, and the tests are a lot harder than you would expect. Make sure to read the external links!
I appreciate his sense of urgency when explaining current environmental issues to his students.
He is always very enthusiastic about what he is teaching which makes the class fun to attend. There is no book which is really nice. There are some articles that you have to read. Tests are easy if you pay attention in class. Only downside is that is that basically the only thing done is class is take notes everyday.
He's a goofball, but the class was great. He is fun and does wacky things to spice up the lectures. He even let me right a paper on a stoner movie for extra credit when we studied marijuana. Cool guy!
Great teacher! Great guy!
The only class I've actually looked forward to attending
I have had Art for three classes and each and every one has been wonderful. He is so genuine and nice. The content of his classes is interesting and easy to learn, as long as you make the effort. I am in journalism, and I am in his tier 3 right now and it's not hard to understand at all. He's my favorite professor EVER!
He was a good teacher and kept me interested but his exams are pretty hard u deff need to study for them. He also gives out external links, my advice is to do all of them because a lot are on the test. Once u get used to his test they will get easier. He also allowed us to do a small amount of extra credit. The class doesn't just cover plants.
Theres only a select few professors I can take and he is one. Im a business major and he makes this class awesome. Cool guy and has easy tests, a must take.
The class is easy and half of it doesn't even have to do with plant biology. Tons and tons of notes and he only puts a select few on blackboard. No textbook. Tests are all about memorization. but they are easy to ace if you study. Trese is kind of sarcastic and rude half the time, but he's not too bad.
Love this class! I learned a lot of random things and my roommates loved the stories of what I had learned in class that day. No textbook is nice too. Take notes. His tests consist of a lot of matching and one word answers.
AWESOME teacher! He makes the class more interesting because of the content he chooses and his lectures are informative. He doesn't usually post powerpoints on Blackboard, so I would recommend going to class or bumming notes. 103 is essentially about poisons, medicines, drugs, and their history. Very interesting, great class! He is a very chill guy
Great professor/great class. He incorporates a lot of other topics/ideas into the class because lets be honest, who wants to be lectured on the biology of plants? Don't listen to the person below who isn't open to any ideas other than their own. Go to class=easy A.
His powerpoints werent very organized, so it was hard to study, and his quizzes/tests were difficult. However, he told great stories and was very entertaining. I would still recommend the class though! no textbook!!
I took 103 with Trese also. 103 is a great class but 100 is not. It has nothing at all to do with plants and the entire class is all about how terribly people are ruining the environment. After about 2 weeks it becomes a chore to go to the class because you know that all you will be talking about is another type of pollution.
Art Trese is the man. This is the greatest class I have taken at school so far, and it's all because of him. He is a great teacher, interesting to listen to, and very down to earth. Super approachable and will help you with any problems or questions you might have. Take this class. Excellent.
He truly is knowledgeable of what he is teaching. He is very helpful and easy to talk to and ask questions too. It really isn't about plants until like 5 weeks in though, which was cool with me.
I really love this class. At first I was hesitant about a class called "World of Plants", but Prof Trese is truly an Excellent teacher. I am definitely going to try to take more classes by this teacher -even if plant bio isn't really my main interest- just because of Mr Trese.
He is a great guy that is a very interesting lecturer. He talks about things that are actually currently happening in the world and you learn things that you can actually use in the real world unlike bs math and chem. Gives extra credit and participation points. several exams that are average difficulty. Got a b- in the class. I recommend it!
a really interesting man, clearly passionate. grade really on based on exams which were usually on random information and quite difficult. his personality was the only good thing about the class that was quite difficult for 100 level
If it were socially acceptable for me to have a crush on a 60 year old man, I would have one on Art Trese! Take the lab with PBIO 100, they are SO FREAKING FUN!
Loved him! Take PBio 103 Plants and People with him its a crazy class that definitely reflected the spirit of Athens. Trese is great.
Art Trese is my favorite professor! He is very passionate about his class and makes the class fun and enjoyable. Great sense of humor and good looking! Highly recommended class!!!! but you must take it with Art Trese!
I LOVED Art Trese! He was so fun and has a GREAT personality. I always looked forward to his classes, and his tests werent that bad either, as long as you take notes, and do the online questions, your good to go!! Oh, and he made our class homade banana bread when we were talking about bananas!!!
RIdiculously easy. Didn't have a book, but make sure you answer all the questions he puts on Blackboard because those are about 40% of the tests. The syllabus doesn't really talk about what actually happens in the class, but oh well. Real laid back and easy going guy- loosey goosey.
Trese is an awesome prof! Extremly laid back guy, and you can tell he loves teaching! He tries so hard to explain everything. just make sure you do the articles he puts online, because they are about 85% of the exams! but overall, my favorite prof so far!
Class is all power points which are so random and make no sense. Doesn't use a book and gives no study guides. Exams are a complete guessing game. Take this class online if you can. Class is much harder then anticipated.
Easiest class ever. No book, attendance isn't mandatory (though he gives pop assignments worth five points that are all opinion based) Posts most of the powerpoints online. Exams are mostly from the questions he posts about the articles on blackboard. I skipped the last two weeks and aced the final.
Easiest class I've ever taken, and I'm not a science person at all. There is no textbook. Exams are solely based on the lectures and a few online readings. If you show up, take notes and study a little the night before, you'll easily pass
Arthur Trese is one of the best professors I've ever had. Class is interesting, despite the boring topics. He make connections to more relevant things to keep people into the lecture. He really truly cares.
He is an amazing professor. You really need to attend class everyday to get all of the information or else you will probably not do well. That being said, class is not mandatory. He really makes your going to class worthwhile though. He makes a topic I originally thought would be boring, really interesting. Love this class.
This Art Trese is AMAZING. Super chill, really helpful, very interesting, and extremely passionate about what he teaches. Attend class, study a bit, and do his external links, and you'll have no problems. In Pbio 103, we learn all about the history of LSD, weed, opium ect. Best science prof I've had. Hands down. I absolutely recommend his classes!
He is really nice and can be very funny. His only downside is that he gears his lectures toward his viewpoints and get unhappy when people argue against his views.
This class is incredibly boring and his Power Points make absolutely no sense. His quizzes are very difficult but his tests are super easy. It's an okay class if you're looking for a science credit. There's no textbook.
He's a nice guy. Attendance is not mandatory, no textbooks. but he gets angry when people dispute his views, and gears the entire class towards his viewpoint. i did learn a lot, but you have to attend class to get the information and have an open mind or else you'll be miserable.
Do not be fooled, this class is not at all an easy A and much more difficult than you would assume based on his general care free attitude. However, attend class and study and it is very possible to get an A. Trese is also very helpful and provides extra credit.
Art is a cool guy who is really passionate about his class. No book. Attendance not mandatory but does do five point response questions in class every once and a while. Everything he's says in class is fair game. You never know what will be on the quizzes and tests. DO the out of class readings. Very important.
EASY! take this class with him! go to class and take decent notes, do the out-of-class readings (ALWAYS), and take the tests. simple as that. just do what he expects, and you've got yourself an A. and there's no textbook!
This class was insanely easy. But, be warned. This guy is a total hippie. I would have appreciated listening to something that wasn't him telling me drinking starbucks made me the devil, him talking about how important organic things are, and how evil corporations were.
You will hate yourself after this class. Plain as that, he hates everything that ever existed. Except Communism and Cuba. :(
He not only provided power points in class to give a visual during his lecture, but also put this power points online for if you missed motes or class. His ability to appeal to all styles of learning was very helpful and powerful in getting his lessons across. The only homework was hardly ever checked and was perfect study material for tests.
Trese is one of my favorite professors! His lectures are engaging and become more interesting throughout the semester. Just read the online articles and go through your lecture notes and you'll do fine on the exams.
this was my favorite teacher. I really learned things in his class and was actually interested. as long as you review your noted and read the articals he posts, you will be fine. also, he will put a test review on blackboard and review with you some in class.
If you are interested in the environment you would probably love this class. If you are not you will want to ask the person next to you to hit you over the head with a shovel. Whether the material is interesting or not, his powerpoint slides are the most confusing, unorganized ones I have ever seen. It is extremely difficult to take good notes.
Arthur Trese was okay, I didn't hate him, sometimes I really liked him and then other times I felt like he was too passionate about his beliefs that maybe the truth of things got berried. I learned a lot of new things and to be honest, I'm terrible at science, but have an A in the class. His lectures are a little too long for my liking.
This was the worst class I've ever experienced.
Really good freakin dude, teaches a great class that isn't even a Pbio even though its called that.
If you have any interest whatsoever in the environment or how we can affect the planet in a positive way, take this class. If you want a class that is super easy to pass, take this class. His power point questions and test questions are identical. He literally copies and pastes them. If you decide to listen, you will find it interesting guaranteed.
His class is pretty easy. Just show up and takes notes and it should be an easy A. The textbook is not needed and he only checks for attendance a few times.
He has very clear, easy-to-understand PowerPoint lectures. Also gives you a short study guide of specific numbers and facts to memorize for the tests. You have to read short articles for the tests, but he only asks questions on the test that he posts along with the articles. Show up, take notes, and make sure you can answer the study guide. Easy A!
Mr. Arthur Trese has been my favorite Prof. by far I absolutely love him! He is very inspirational, and makes exceptional points. He'll keep you very interested, in his class you learn a lot of useful and practical things about the environment that will come in use in the future. Take this class it's awesome!
Art tells you exactly what is going to be on the exam. If you're conscious during class, you'll pass them. He has a great sense of humor and made the content of the class relevant to us. For example, when talking about fair trade coffee, he referenced our local shops so that we knew which ones were most responsible. He's passionate about the class.
Impossible to take good notes... his power points are basically questions & answers. very unorganized. Art is hilarious, a hippy for sure. He doesn't post notes online so coming to class is essential to passing.
This is the easiest class I've ever taken. It would be impossible for him to be any clearer. He posts questions on Blackboard that are the exact questions he uses on the exams and he uses exact questions from his powerpoint in class on the exam as well. If you just learn the questions online and write down the notes, you're good to go.
Not sure why people are saying this class was an easy A. I normally get A's in all my classes and received a B in this class. He's not a bad teacher, but the powerpoints are very unorganized and sometimes hard to understand exactly what you need to know. I'd say don't expect it to be a breeze like some of my friends and I thought.
He may not take attendance every day, but if you miss class you miss 50% of the material. Half the material is the articles that you read on blackboard out of class, but he doesn't put his lecture ppts online so you really do need to go to class. It may be boring sometimes, but really, just go to class and read the articles and you will do fine.
Dr. Trese's classes are not only hilarious but inspirational as well. He makes the class a lil easier by providing sample questions throughout the lectures and on Blackboard. As long as you pay attention and show up to class you'll get by, study those sample questions and you'll do even better. Love this class! Would take one of his classes again.
super chill dude, extremely knowledgeable
If you do the work, show up to class, and study.. you'll be fine.
Trese is just a kind guy who loves the planet. He teaches passionately about his stuff and I dig it. It's an easy A because he's a good teacher. Science major or not, it's a class worth taking. Also, no textbook so. Just listen to a chill guy talk about the planet and how to treat it better. Good times.
Art is a great guy who cares a lot about what he's teaching. He understandably gets upset by students who do other work or go on their phones during class and will probably call you out on it. Lectures are fun and interesting, and he is a very funny guy. As long as you show up and pay attention, you'll pass. Would definitely recommend.
Seriously an amazing class. You have your own garden (off campus so have a bike or car) and thats a portion of your grade as well as quizes and tests on articles, movies and class lectures. Lectures can be a bit long but are always about interesting and important material. Art knows so much about Sustainable Ag. and PBIO in general, appreciate him
