He is an interesting teacher. In this class you get to learn about ww2 and L.A.
Very interesting, smart teacher
He's the best teacher I had at this school.

He is so HOT!!

DAMN HE IS ONE EDUCATED AND INTERESTING PROFESSOR
Absolutely passionate about the subject matter. Keeps a great pace during lecture and keeps you're interest for the semester in high gear. If you're going to take history.....TAKE HIM. 'Nuff said.
In my class, he went off about a lot of stuff that while interesting, had nothing to do with our class. There were a few questions on tests that never got discussed in class...
Verge is a GREAT teacher, his LOVE for history makes it so interesting - keeps the class entertained. The class is basically lecture & note taking. Tests are pretty easy if you show up everyday, b/c the test are based on his lecture
one of the best teachers i have ever had. i wish i could take him for every history course. go to class, take notes and you will be fine.
He is a GREAT proffesor. His knowledge and passion of history is astonishing. I wish i could take every class with a teacher like him. He keeps you interested and does a lot of name dropping, but it keeps your attention. TAKE HIM!!
i didn't like him. he goes off topic way too much about his life and his tests are really hard even if you do study. he seems sorta fake to me.
Absolutley the best professor in my opinion at El Camino. While he makes history really intresting and fun to learn he goes off on huge wild tangents that are hilarous. EASY A
He is a great professor. He is the one that opened my love for history. Because of him, I am also going to follow his footsteps and be a history major.
Best teacher I've ever had. Gotta take every history class with him even if I don't need them. He's that good!! Awesome Guy.
Very fun and well educated man. makes going to class worthwhile...just have to pay attention and take notes to pass.
great lecturer!!!
A really good professor. He makes History interesting and not boring. You definitely have to read the book and take good notes though in order to pass. You can pass the class with flying colors as long as you go to class and pay attention. I definitely recommend him!
This is by far the easiest class I have ever taken! Very interesting and an easy way to bring up your gpa. Perfect attendance= guaranteed A. Absolutely no assignments, just 3 tests, one of which he drops. Don't need to even open the book, all from the notes which are very interesting stories
He's very smart and interesting but maybe a little ****.(He's a guy's guy)But really a fun teacher. A little easy, but there are essays on every test that you can totally b.s.
Can't tell you how great this teacher is. Totally a great guy. Never met a teacher/LA County lifeguard before, but boy this is one great man. He even sold me on the study abroad program which i'll be going on next year to Vienna.... definate must take class!
Very good teacher! He knows his stuff and is fun to listen to. He cares very much about the students and how they are doing. You take 3 tests and he drops the lowest score. Take notes and you'll do great!
He is an EXCELLENT professor. He lectures with passion, and integrates it with interesting stories. He does require that you bring in newspapers on certain days, and you can get extra credit for talking about articles in the LA times.
This is not a class to take if you are not a native speaker, since he speaks real fast. He assures that he gives test qeustions based on his lecture, but most of the questions come out of the stuff he emphasized least. Fun lecture but never tries to put stuff on board.
Sooooooooo easy. The only thing you have to do is take good notes and study them for the tests. There are only 3 and he drops the lowest test score. Lots of videos too. He really enjoys the subject and makes it very interesting. I highly recommend taking him.
I thought this class was unfair because he takes points away if your grammer is bad on the essays. I got like 1 or 2 wrong on the multiple choice, but since I'm a bad writer, I got Cs on his test because I wasn't able to write good essays even though I knew all the stuff. He is fun and intersting.
He is the one reason that I got into school, He is sooooo awesome!I showed up every day and tried hard and I passed with a B!!!! I hated school before I took his class! He makes history fun!!
Great teacher and a great class. Trying to fit another one of his into my schedule.
He's a whacko. He talks a million miles an hour and constantly digresses into his life stories making it hard to follow. He name drops more than he teaches and his tests arent that easy either.
One of El Camino's finest instructors
I am soo happy I never have to see him or listen to his irrelevant opinions again. He is often demeaning and arrogant. He demands student etiquette but severely lacks any teaching etiquette. This guy thinks he could work at USC but I think he is lucky to be a college professor at all. His book is very poor in my opinion and is a waste of time.
Great Teacher! Helped me decide to be a History major. He does go on tangets about his life story, but they are very interesting stories and they usually somehow relate. Three test, multiple choice and essay. He drops the lowest score. Just take good notes and study those.
Hist 1b was the best gen ed class i've ever had. He made learning fun and interesting. Alot of people **** about his tests, but they are very fair. C'mon, all we have is 3 tests!I just got back from the study abroad program with him and it completely changed my life! You are missing out if you don't have him at least once!
a man who is passionate about life and the area he lives in. makes you pround to live where you do. if you get an a on the first two tests that is your grade. notes every lecture and the la times. dont buy his book it is a waste of money. i didnt even open mine and got an a
I thought he was a cool guy until i had to spend a month with him in europe. verge is kind of an ****. i totally agree that he has no teaching ettiquitte. he's disrespectful and puts down other's opinions but demands that u listen to his. easy a if you r willing to sacrifice your dignity while he rambles for an hr and a half a day
Unbelivable teacher.... very inspiring. Even went on a study abroad program with him. Must take!!!
i was not interested in history at all, but i took his class and i was interested in learning history and i liked it. you do have to take notes, but if you do and study it, or memorize the facts, you will past no problem. he does go off alittle, but it made it interesting for me.

I've always had trouble with history, but Professor Verge was sooooo awesome! He made things really easy to understand! He's also a super-nice guy!
Verge is an awesome teacher. His lectures made the class very fun and he always had good stories to go along with the lecture. The test wernt too difficult, just as long as you study the lecture notes.
The most bias, subjective teacher you would find, very white wash.
Great class! Go on his Europe program! Best time of my life!
Dr. Verge is a great and wonderful professor. He is very funny and great personality. When he talks about his travels, he can get side-tracked. But you will learn alot of thing when you take his class. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED PROFESSOR!!!
Verge is an excellent teacher, one of the best at ECC in my opinion. He knows very much about History and is very passionate about it! There is never any homework besides reading and your grade is based on 3 tests only. Not hard to get an "A" just show up everyday and read the book.
Dr. Verge is an excellent professor..one of the best at ECC. he knows History and has the gift to make you want to learn more. Key to his class is read the books, come to class, take notes, read the L.A. Times and participate in class. You will do well if you work.
Verge is awesome! I loved his classes. He is probably the best teacher at ElCo. He was fun in class, and he had extra credit trips to old movies and stuff that were fun, too. If you go to class, read the book and the LA Times, and take notes, you should pass. I can't recommend him enough!
one of the best teachers at ECC.
Great class, hilarious teacher. he tends to get sidetracked a little, but if you do the reading like he says you'll be just fine for the test. gives an essay with each of the 3 tests. watch out grades a little hard on the essays (as in, he also grades on grammar, punctuation, and proper paragraph sizing not just content) but truely a GREAT teacher.
This man will ruin your life. He is extremely boring, with random tangents every day about how he loves his doctors because they are well-rounded individuals. If you don't have brain cells to kill, then great; by all means take his class. Otherwise, avoid his class like the plague.
at first you might think he's arrogant and will tend to lead off on his personal glory days...however he has a lot to say about California and he truely brings a connection to our lives in mondern Los Angeles. I personally think he's stuck up but he is one hell of a teacher and I appreciate him as a professional educator.
Easy A.
GREAT Class! very fun and positive teacher. the course is easy its based on 3 exams. just review the study guides he gives out before each exam and u'll be fine. and the extra credit at the OLD Town Music Hall was a blast!
Supportive, friendly, and engaging. Totally involved and knowledgeable. Listen, take good notes, and study. You'll learn a lot!
U R a coold guy Mr. Verge : ) One of My favorite teachers at El Ca, and shoot I've been going there a long time. U make even history interesting, and U were a bomb lifegaurd. U R one of the great El Camino legacys, my hats of to U Sr. Much better than the lame Math Dept they have selected on this campus. U R Truely a great teacher though.
Verge is a historian who really knows his stuff. However, as a professor, it's another story. While his tests are easy if you study, his lectures can be an exercise in annoyance. He wastes a ton of time with personal anecdotes that DON'T MATTER and gets bothered very easily by little things. So take him if you have to, but be aware of his ticks.
this guy is so boring. he has favorites in class. he gives 3 tests so if you get a really low score on 1 test its hard to bring yourself up. he goes off subject sometimes and it takes about 10 mins to get back on subject. he barely repeats what he says and talks fast, you have to have super fast writing skills. i never had such a boring class.
dont buy his paradise book. its a waste of money. he is just looking to make a profit. save yourself 30 bucks.
Dr. Verge is one of the best teachers at El Co. He really gets into his lectures and that makes it very interesting. Even if you don't read the books I guarantee you'll still learn alot from his lectures. The people who give him negative feedback are the slackers who sit in the back of the room and have no motivation to learn anything.
i took him in the summer&didnt rly need the books becuz i took good notes, has TOO many personal stories sometimes but he makes the class really interesting.goes off on TOO many tangents about his life&opinions so if you dont like that, then find another teacher but he was enjoyable. dont rly need that paradise book if you're taking him4 the summer
verge rocks. his class is pretty easy, you just need to take notes and actually study. I got A's on the test and i just studied my notes, he gives some extra credit as well, he's really excited about history and teaching it. he talks about a lot of really cool personal experiences, and its just a fun class, but its not for the slacker type.
Professor Verge is a great teacher. Even though he talks about random things sometimes, but it's alright. Some of them connects with the subject. Everything needs effort and this class is one of the class that requires you to put huge effort, but at least two hours. Just go to class, take good notes, review it and you'll pass the test with A's.
great teacher. clear, only grades 3 test, no homework, 2 extra credit assingments, make sure you study for test(read the book, also read the l.a times before class for particpation
Class is all lecture. He makes you do current events. His extra credit is simple. All you have to do is go to movie filmings and thats an extra 7 points or so. Great teacher. But, he likes to call out on students, so if you dont like to be called on, dont take him. otherwise, go for it!
The only good thing out of this class was the text book. His tests are very difficult and there is too much information to comsume. You have to read like 7 chapters between tests. His test consists of 25 multiple choice and two essay questions. Each question is worth 2 pts and the essay questions are worth 25 pts each. He's not very help eithe
Great Teacher, puts alot of heart into his class. Interesting class. I highly recommend this prof
He gives 3 tests with 25 multiple choice qts and an essay question. The essay question is worth 25 pts and each multiple choice qt. is worth 3 pts each. He grades a lttle hard on the essays though. He usually shows up 5 minutes after class is suppose to start. He gives two extra credit offers worth up to 14 pts altogether. I got a B in his class.
had him for honors.great teacher, makes history interesting!i liked listening to his stories too.no homework. 3 tests, 25 questions+essay.if you take notes in class(and you should)then these tests are EASY!+he gives extra credit opts that really help. really good class, if you arent lazy or incompetent then take him. youll enjoy it
obviously the person below who gave him a bad rating didnt pay attention, cuz the questions are worth 3 points. take notes and you'll be fine. i never read the book and got an A. great teacher, im taking him again for 1B.
I took California History and 1877 to the Present. He's the best history teacher I've had yet. He's a stickler for spelling & grammar on the in class essays but a pre-write solves that issue. If you come to class, take effective notes, and enjoy history lectures, you will love this class. Out of the six tests I took,I only found 3 unexplained Q's.
verge is fair. never read the book, got 2 B's on my first test and an A in the last test and got an A in the class. 3 tests, no hw or papers, just LA Times current event 3 times. 2 extra credit opportunites (go to the movies twice for 14 pts). just take notes and show up and there is no way you cant at least get a B
Prof. Verge's class is fairly easy.. He explains topics clearly.. He is very straight-forward, tells his opinions in class everytime.. Gives out 3 tests including the final, tests are straight from the lecture and book but he does not use the book. Gives tons of extra credit opportunity... Great teacher!
He is okay. He knows his stuff well. His lectures are clear. We only had 3 tests throughout the semester. He requires you to read the LA times. He gives a lot of extra credit that would definitely help your grade. Overall a good class. =P
Very pretentious. Name drops a lot. Class attendance is manatory. His tests consist of only 25 questions, meaning that if you miss 3 questions, you get a B. He gives you the essay questions ahead of time & says he'll have a choice of 2 on the test. But, on 2/3 tests, he had one of the study guide questions & one question you couldn't choose.
He name drops constantly and he tells the same stories multiple times. His tests are ridiculous (25 mult choice and one essay). He grades the essay like an English teacher. I really didn't like his class. Surprised I passed with a B. He takes attendance every day. He incorporates absences into your grade. You have to read the LA times every day.
Dr. Verge was always understandable, informative and enjoyable to listen and learn from. He made History and Socio-Economics a pleasure to take.
Dr. Verge has good intentions. Sometimes though class lectures are a bit embellished and do not match facts in the book, making him lose some credibility. Definitely learned a great deal about the state's history and enjoyed his lectures.
Well,I took Dr Verge for both His 8 and His 1B.I enjoyed both of his classes. He gives you a clear understanding of history in his lectures,so take good notes. However, make sure you read the book. If I needed to take another History class,I would take it Verge. He offers extra credit too.I got an A in his class. I highly recommend Verge.
Take lots of notes for his class. essay questions on test suck because he acts like an english teacher. gives you a sylabus but does not really follow it himself. attendance and being on time are factored into your grade (he was rarely on time-usually 3 minutes late everyday)
Tests are based on both lecture and reading from the book. Make sure to read the L.A. Times everyday for those points. The class is easy. I didn't enjoy the essay questions on the test but I found his study sheets very helpful and made flash cards to help myself out.
Awesome teacher !!! Best I ever had R.C. Court
He goes off on too many tangents in his lectures. Scribles notes on the board that are not very clear. Great guy, but boring and CONFUSING lectures.
not a good teacher when he would lecture he would go rely fast but if your a fast learner then this is your guy
LOOOOOOOOOOOOVED this teacher. yeah he goes off on tangents but theyre kinda relevant... somtimes =] try taking notes from what he says cuz the board is not toooo clear. NO MIDTERM! NO FINAL! just 4 tests. do the study guide it gives you most of the answers!!!! multiple choise easy. essays... =[ but its not hard to get an A. im in his class right n
i dont know what this people are talking about but mr. verge was a terrible teacher, his lectures were unclear and his test although are short but were confusing I DONT RECOMEND THIS TEACHER BUT IF YOU ARE A REAL FAST LEARNER THEN TAKE HIM
Wonderful Professor
Best teacher at EL CO. Dr. Verge is the reason I was a history major. Went to Europe with him twice, had the time of my life.
Dude, I don't know how anyone could not LOVE Dr. Verge! He is so interested in the subject matter and teaches history like you're sitting around telling a story. I was DREADING this class when I signed up, and now I wish I could take it again. Dr. Verge is the only reason I am going to miss El Co.
A very nice professor who knows his stuff. Although I didn't really enjoy his style of teaching.
i didn't like his method of teaching but i could stand it for a short summer session only...u spent most of the class taking about LA TIMES n the rest is just listening to him talk about CA n what he did (boring) i am a history major n still didn't like his teachings but he did offer extra credit
This is one of the most boring classes ever! I didn't like his style of teaching. There are a total of three tests so every test counts! Verge is a nice guy, but he definitely has his favorites. This class requires you to learn most of the information on your own. There is a lot of stuff to memorize! I didn't like him
I took his honors course and got an A. He makes history very interesting and he isn't boring. Everything is off his notes and lectures. Don't need book. If you love history Verge is your man. Best history teacher at El Camino. You have to work for your grade but he does offer extra credit if you need it.
A must take Professor. Dr. Verge made this class very interesting. Gave a study guide with the information needed for the exams. Very funny and nice individual. Passing with an A or B is not difficult in this class. Just have to show up to class and participate a bit. Would not take any other professor other then Dr. Verge. Very easy class.
i love you dr. verge! take this guy!!!!
I am a veteran of every class Verge teaches. He's fantastic. Tip for anybody unsure: When he lectures and heads for the board to write something down, write down the term, and take the related notes. That's what is on his tests and a few from the book. Great professor, his life experience is invaluable. Anybody who doesn't like him must have failed
He only gives 3 tests which include 25 multiple choice questions & an essay question. By the end of the semester I'd learned more about his wife, the lifeguards & his personal connections than I had about American History. His study guides don't connect with the tests at all. He is nice, but has favorites & preaches his opinions on everything!
Prof. Verge made me enjoy and appreciate history more than ever. I took the Honors class. You do have to study and read the book and re-read the notes taken in class. It becomes an easy habit. You have 3 tests 25 multiple choice and an essay to write. On top, you have 4 site reports. You do have to spend $$ on the L.A. times. I got an A! Take him!
Very interesting teacher and class. His way of teaching gets you interested and you retain a lot of information needed for test.
absolutely the worst teacher i have taken at this school. i love history and i came out of this class knowing more about his family than history. he tests are 25 multiple choice and 1 essay question that he grades harder than my english 1A teacher did. he claims words are not real words or that you have run on sentences when you don't.
The lectures were really interesting I took him in th summer you have to read the book take good notes and dont be late!3test final included picky on the essay but i manage to get a B two of exta credits oppurtunities that really helped
Basically, i didn't buy the book and got an A by taking notes, didn't miss class, did extra credit, studied & finished the study guides. Such an amazing Professor, the bst! He isn't playing around though, get yourself together and act like a college student should, and you will be fine. seriously, TAKE HIM! LA Times=easy pts.
Come to class and pay attention and you'll be fine. I learn a lot. Verge is far more interesting than the book and makes more sense than the book.
Excellent! Knows his stuff and very friendly to students that appear to apply themselves. Side stories are entertaining and allow a moment to catch up in your notes. Have to work for your grade, but lots of point opportunities and extra credit. Exams are easy, but has high expectations for the in-class essay portion. I recommend the class!
Extremely friendly and knowledgeable professor! Listening to his lectures were very entertaining because he made it sound like a story. I liked everything about this class except that he doesn't give enough info to complete the essay questions. And there were a few questions on his tests that we didn't go over in class.
I took his honors section in the spring and loved it! He makes history extremely interesting. You will learn so much from him and not strictly about history. He is the best history teacher I have ever had. His exams aren't bad, just prepare for the essay!
I took his 1B Honors course and loved it! The subject is so interesting and his stories are always entertaining! Attendance is super important, and you'll need the book to have enough info for the essays. He has high expectations for his honors students and with good reason. Hint: Write out the essay answers from the study guide AHEAD OF TIME!
The best for the subject. Easy to work with and offers extra credit to help boost your grade. Highly recomend him.
Best teacher I've ever had at el Camino! Very passionate about history! He keeps you intrigued. Take notes during lectures and you will be fine!
Great professor!! Knows so much and always has his own stories to tell. He grades the essays kind of hard, but makes you improve your writing. Fun extra credit oportunities. Would definitely recommend.
Great teacher, better person. Had him for California history. He helps immensely, however his class is basically all lecture with some videos. He has students bring in periodicals from the LA Times to share articles about whats current. Also, has extra credit opportunities. Smart guy, wrote the book, TAKE HIM!!
Verge is a great Professor! He lectures alot, tells interesting stories and makes class worth sitting at a desk for 2hours. Pay attention to lectures, take notes and bring the required newspaper to discuss articles. He's a tough grader on the essay part of exams, he's strict on punctuation, grammar and spelling other then that I LOVED THIS CLASS!
Best Teacher ever! Helpful, kind, friendly, polite and funny. Loves his students. One of the treasures at El Camino!
Professor Verge is such a great teacher! In class, we didn't use the text book at all but he says we need them. We really don't. He tells many interesting and funny stories to entertain the class. He gives extra credit chances and he really wants to see his students pass. Overall, you will NOT regret taking him. One of the best teacher at ElCo.
Best professor ever. His lectures are more like stories which makes learning about history fun and easy to remember . He Gives a study guide for the test. The test itself wasn't that hard it was just hard trying complete the essay and multiple choice in an hour . But overall this class was extremely fun.
Great teachers. Take advantage of all the extra credit and attend class and he may sway a border line grade in your favor. Well spoken. Well informed. Great stories. Funny impersonations. One of the best professors at El Camino.
Great professor. His lectures are very easy to understand. U wont need the textbook if u take good notes. On the exam, u will need to write an essay in an hr and although u will have time to prepare it, it can sometimes be pretty hard. He does give u study guide so u know what will be on the test. Make sure u try to get to class on time!!!
Talks about his life/current events for the first half hour, and then spends the rest on the lesson. Makes learning the material easy and simplified. Frequently makes impersonations which make the class laugh. Doesn't use textbook as a reference at all. Tests and essays ridiculously easy and gives extra credit opportunities. A fair teacher.
I took Verge twice. He is one of my favorite professors at ElCo. At one point he actually made me think of minoring in history. He loves history and knows so much about it. He's very interesting and has loads of fun facts and stories to tell. Do YOURSELF a favor and take his class.
He's a really enthusiastic, passionate teacher who cares for his students. He says a textbook is needed but if you take good notes, you won't need one. His lectures are filled with funny stories and wisdom. Tests can be difficult, but he hands out helpful study guides. Strict on cell phone use and attendance. Doesn't assign homework.
Great teacher. Grading consists of 4 tests, all of which are from his own book and class lectures. Must study hard to receive an A. his lectures were very fun to observe.
pros: knows what he is talking about. Great lectures No homework Tests are easy Cons: mentions too much about his personal life, although his life stories are interesting. Tends to pick on a few students.
Professor Verge is a great professor. He just lets his personal life interfere with his lectures. His favorite phrase is " i'm just telling you how it is" get old, but other than that you will learn a lot of great facts. He grades the essay part of the exams very hard, but it does prepare students to transfer easier. YOU WILL HAVE TO STUDY.
Verge is an amazing storyteller! Lectures are filled with material, life lessons, and stories. Gives some extra credit. 3 tests consist of 25 MC worth 75 points and a 25 point essay. Gives helpful study guide ahead of time with the possible prompts that will appear. 2 books, both sort of needed. Also need to complete 4 site repots for honors class.
DROP EVERYTHING AND TAKE VERGE'S CLASS- He is truly a great guy and an even better Professor (You wont come across many guys like him at JC or a University level). Super easy class, as long as you have good attendance. I would recommend getting the book but if you are on a tight budget make sure you don't miss a class(You won't want to anyways).
If you aren't the essay type of student don't take this class! Each exam has a huge essay portion (I found that if you wrote anything in a poetic manner Verge won't get it!) So stick with solid facts!! No homework and you won't need the textbook if you take good notes! I recorded all of his lessons secretly, since he doesn't give you the best notes
Idk what kind of teacher youre looking for, but Ill tell you it was the best class Ive taken at El Camino. His passion for the subject is expressed in his lectureslife lessons that are relevant to the material. You will have to study and you will have to read, but tell me a class that doesn't have this and Ill show you a class I didn't learn in.
This class only consist of three test. As long as you take good notes and have the book you can do great in this class. He sometimes does not cover topics too well therefore the book is necessary to study for test. His study guides are a good road map to what to expect on test. Extra credit is fun! Pay attention, good notes, and you are good to go
Best history class I've taken. He tells stories and gives wonderful lectures. He makes you really interested in the subject. There are 3 exams so definitely make sure to do the study guide and take good notes. The extra credit movie nights are extremely fun! I would definitely take again.
This was the 2nd class I have taken with him (1st was History if California). Show up for class, take notes (what is written on the white board), attend the couple of extra-credit "gatherings", and you should be good. He gave 3 exams in this class; 2 had an essay answer portion. Don't be late, he locks the door. GREAT Professor!!
Professor Verge is the sweetest and he is so adorable. His stories always start out with "I shouldn't be telling you guys this" and he tells them every day. You get extra credit for having the book. Just go to every class and take good notes, study the terms on the study guide. 3 tests. Have enough respect for him and DON'T TEXT IN CLASS EVER
Verge is an amazing professor with very intriguing, personal stories and smart opinions. Even if you don't need this class, I highly recommend it. I didn't use the book, but I took good notes everyday and studied and got an A.
Amazing professor . He really cares about El Camino and his students. Great lectures.
Never enjoyed History but definitely enjoyed it because of Verge! Definitely a must to take with him if you're considering.
I took his summer class, and they were a bit easier, especially because he had a lot of things to do during the summer. I really loved his lectures! His lectures are very interesting, so the information is really to remember. His test are easy since he gives out a study guide, but sometimes you need to search up some things on the internet.
History 102 Honors- Lectures are very interesting. He never makes it boring. Test includes 25 multiple choice and 1 essay portion. He's a pretty tough grader on writing. For honors he assigns historical site papers (4). He allows for extra credit if you go to a movie night at Old Town music hall. Overall, great class. Got an A.
Wonderful professor, and even better person. He wants to see all of his students do well and gives easy extra credit. Only had 3 tests during my whole semester and were all relatively easy. Passed with an easyish A, and would reccomend taking again if possible. He gets off track easily, but he will always relate it to what we are learning.
Verge is probably my favorite professor at ELCO. Lectures are never boring and he tells it like it is. He's a great story teller which makes his class always interesting. Love the guy!!!
Dr. Verge is an awesome instructor in History, he really knows his 'stuff.' He starts off class with a small discussion about current events, then proceeds to lecture with some jokes to make it interesting, and usually ends class with a short film that is relative to the current lecture material. Challenge yourself, you won't regret it!
Verge is a solid professor. He does drone somewhat, but he combines his lectures with personal, fairly relevant stories and insights into why historical figures did what they did. You'll need to visit a few historical places. Exams have multiple choice and essay components; if you read and prepare (and are okay at writing) you'll get an A.
Best professor at El Co hands down. Love the guy. Funny, clear, and just an overall a character. I still hang out with him to this day. Honestly if you are one of those students that tries he will see(you know who you are). He's a real dude, and real recognizes real. His test are covered by his study guides. Take him, he's the man. Love this guy.
Great teacher. His lectures are engaging, relatable, and hilarious. If you pay attention to his lectures and take good notes, then you don't really need to use the book that much. His study guide tells you exactly what is going to be on the multiple choice, so it's pretty easy to get an A on the tests. He doesn't give out that much homework either.
He's an amazing professor. His lectures are entertaining and informational. He talks a lot about his life but he manages to tie it into the material. If you pay attention to the lectures and take good notes, then you don't really need to use the book. He gives you a study guide that clearly tells you what will be on the test.
Fantastic professor who you can see has a real passion for history. His lectures help you remember quite a bit for the test which are pretty easy. Definitely go to his extra credit which is quick and easy. Tests are also very easy, but depend a good portion on writing. Thankfully my writing was good enough for him. Made me want to take more history
Knows a lot of stuff that isn't from the textbook. If you want to learn history that you don't normally hear from a typical history course then you should definitely check him out. His lecture is so good that it made me want to get up at 6 in the morning to go to his class. Also, he is one of the few professor that truly cares about his students.
Prof. Verge is quite interesting to say the least. There's little to no homework, and always expect a test after he finishes a section of the material. The book is needed if you need more insight. PAY ATTENTION DURING THE LECTURES AND TAKE LOTS OF NOTES!!!! Go to his extra credit locations they help loads!!!
Amazing proffesor! Hands down he is my favorite prof at El Camino. He is very passionate about history and he always includes a little bit of his personal life in his lectures. He cares about his students and pushes them to do better. He's a tough grader so you definitely have to write a good essay to get a good grade on your exam. Take him!
Very passionate about history. Exams fairly easy. Gives you a study guide before each exam that's basically all of the exam. Multiple choices are easy. Be sure to spend time on study guides for the essay portions. Four site reviews due at the end of semester, make sure to not procrastinate on these. Take good notes and don't be late to class.
The book is not necessary to get as long as you learn the history which is usually a quick google search away. He's silly when it comes to grading the essays on the exams. Spends way too much time talking about his personal life that does not relate to the class.
Don't get me wrong, Verge teaches, but he spends a lot of time on stories not tested on. I felt that the test grading was skewed with weighting the multiple choice so heavily. You will learn what you need, but prepare for half of the class being anecdotal.
Great teacher! He is definitely one of the best lecturers at ECC. He really knows how to make history really interesting. He 's a funny teacher and he definitely looks out for his students. His honors class consists of 3 tests and 4 site reports which aren't too bad. There's also some extra credit opportunities as well.
Love this professor. Would take again.
Professor is very experienced and cares about his students. One of the best history professors Ive had so far
Interesting lectures. Grade is based on 3 tests. Each is half multiple choice, half essay. Study guide he gives is helpful for multiple choice part. Essay part is graded ridiculously hard. He gives prompts asking for a diary/journal, then gives you a bad grade for not writing "a college essay" which is impossible if it's a diary/journal.
3 tests make up your whole class score. If you screw up one test, you fail. He grades the essay portion of the tests brutally. When I asked how to do better, he said go back to English A (I aced all of my English). Never dropped a class before, but I'm dropping this one.
this professor is very especial with having sick students in the classroom . if your sick dont even go to class or else he will kick you even if your just taking notes .
Great professor, makes history fun to learn and explain it elaborately enough for you to truly retain the knowledge, the only thing you gotta do is read the book for a high grade. Going to every single lecture and not reading the book should be an easy C
I don't care what anyone says about Professor Verge he is hands down the best professor I have ever had. He loves the subject and he has tons of stories to tell about the topics he is teaching about on any given day. On top of that his life advice is amazing too. He cares a lot for his students and I would recommend him any day of the week.
If you're actually interested in history, you will never be bored in Verge's class. No homework, grade is based on only 3 tests which are easy if you study, but he does grade pretty harshly on the essay portions of the tests. He gives a study guide a week or two in advance and he gives extra credit opportunities that really help with your grade.
I love professor verge he really cares about his students and history. His lectures are super interesting. His tests are a little difficult but if you study you'll be fine. Go to his extra credit nights too they're a lot of fun. I would definitely take again and I'm not even a history major
Dr. Verge is a great professor, but beware, test scores are your only scores, so you really gotta study for them. They include multiple choice and an essay, both of which are highly specific to the material. Mesmerizing dates is not a big part of it, but remembering events and what happened throughout are. Extra credit is super fun! Recommended!
I recommend taking Professor Verge. Cares about his students. He exams are easy if you study. He does give you a study guide. Plus extra credit is easy and fun to do.
Professor Verge is one of few professors' classes I looked forward to attending. He gives amazing lectures that comes with life stories and interesting information. All you have to do for this class is show up, take notes, and read the textbook a little and you'll be fine. Also don't fall asleep or use your phone in class he hates it.
Amazing teacher!!! Verge's lectures actually have the class laughing and caring about history! the way he teaches the material makes it easy to remember for the exams, which he also gives you a study guide for. Overall easy A if you really make sure you know the information on the study guide, also for extra credit you get to go see a movie!
He's really nice and you can learn a lot from him in life. He makes history interesting.
My favorite professor during my time at El Camino. The class is based on the tests which are super easy if you study his study guide. He is very passionate about what he teaches and is an old school kind of guy.
Professor Verge is hands down the best of the best when it comes to lectures. He is very knowledgeable about U.S. History. He offers extra credit and grades fairly.
Professor Verge is clearly very knowledgeable, active in his field, and passionate about history. The exams are relatively easy, but because of the essay sections I would recommend passing English 1A before taking his class. He does like to talk about his life for the first thirty or so minutes of each class, though, so be prepared for that.
He isn't very flexible with grades and he also grades the essay portion harder than an English teacher would. There are only 3 tests and 4 site reports that make up the grade. Only extra credit is going to the 2 movie opportunities offered. If you aren't good at history, don't take this professor. He is the worst professor I've ever had.
Take his class!! His lectures are really good and he's such an understanding and great professor. He gives you two chances to get extra credit (14 points total), but your grade depends on the tests! He gives out the study guide for each test about a week before, so make sure to study the notes! You also have to write essays for the tests, so study!
Mr. Verge is an amazing professor and a really good person. The only grades were three different tests (two of them had essays) but hes an easy grader. Theres also multiple extra credit opportunities, I highly recommend him!!!
he's alright, i guess. 3 tests and 4 site reports make up the grades. the tests have essays and he's a hard grader, so prepare for the essays. there are 2 extra credit opportunities, but they're only 7 points each (i still recommend doing them). his lectures are interesting, but he often goes off topic. just prepare for the tests, seriously.
Verge's Class is not for everyone but if you just show up to class and study for the test you should be fine. The Exams are split into two portions. One portion consists of 25 multiple choice and a handwritten essay. Like every else has mentioned he is a tough grader so you'll need to prep. for the essays. 4 site reports and 2 extra credit.
Great teacher the class is based off of three tests that are pretty easy. He also gives lots of chances to get extra credit.
If you are trying to really learn history then do not take this class. All he does is complain about things and talk about how narcissistic he is for the first hour of class, then briefly gives a history lesson. Never opened the book once and he told us to google everything for the exams. Tries to make you feel dumb, do not take his classes.
He has interesting personal stories that remotely relates to the topic although that's half the lectures. 20 points extra credit to go watch a movie but other than that grade is based off 3 test and final. You'll have 3-5 chapters per test and close to no help on the study guide. Basically you'll have to be a pro to be prepared for the tests.
One of the best professors I've had by far. I enjoyed taking his 101 class so much that I decided to take his 102 class too. His class is pretty easy as long as you show up for class and listen to his lectures. And his lectures aren't even boring. He tells personal stories for half the class which gets you engaged to what he's talking about.
I probably studied a total of three hours all semester, one hour for each test he gives, and using the study guide I easily found the information in the book. That plus showing up every lecture and going to the extra credit movie he offers, its easy to get a good grade in his class.
The Worst Professor I Have Ever Had!
If you are trying to really learn history then do not take this class. He just talks about his personal life and do not help you in office hours
Professor Verge is the best!!! All you need is a textbook for $90 dollars. Make sure to take good notes because his test are based on his lectures, book, and google. 3 exams for the whole semester and he gives a study sheet for each exam. He let me redo the essay when I did poor which is nice he really cares about his students.
I did not like verge at all. he gives a study guide which are only some subjects we see on class and the others you have to figure out on your own. the extra credit is nice but the movies are hella boring. talking about boring, his lecture are the most boring ever. he can spend half of the class talking about his personal life or advice.
Verge was an overall OK teacher, I respected him because of his long line of education and achievements but his views are something to look at. Anyway, the class was cake. The test was very straightforward and the site report, in the end, might've been a pain, but it is easy. You do not need the book, all of the tests are based on the lecture.
He integrates a lot of his personal stories in with what's he's lecturing for the day, which makes the class much more entertaining. He has interesting viewpoints and reactions to certain situations which annoys me sometimes. I took him for the winter session and I would 100% take his class again. His tests are so easy if you read the study guide.
Honestly he's pretty funny most of the time (suddenly super mean at times), but hes a total narcissist. his lectures are interesting and easy to follow, and he has cool stories to start the day. Impossible to please on the essay portion of the test, but the multiple choice is straight forward. Has extra credit opportunities
Dr. Verge feels to be a bit much at first but he definitely grows on you. So grateful for the love advice and it only costs $46 a unit! What a steal. The lectures are easy to follow and its amazing how he weaves in stories from his life.
Dr. Verge met expectations and I was satisfied with learning the curriculum that he provided. Every life lesson he gives also reflects the subject and topic he is about to teach. The only homework you have is to study for the exams. I prefer taking English 1A before taking his course due to the essay writing involved within this curriculum.
Excellent attitude about education. Starts each lecture with life lessons (really good ones). He only grades Site Reports and Exams. If you write good notes, use his study guide, and review your notes well, you'll do fine. If you show him that you're really motivated and willing to work and improve, he'll spoil you. Work hard, and you'll do great.
Dr. Verge is a bit much at times but he has great stories and life advice. As long as you take notes and review them for an hour or two, you'll get a great grade on the multiple choice. Doing at least an outline for the essay portion is necessary because he grades it harder. The site reports are a hassle but everything is worth the easy credit.
As a teacher I thought he was great. He starts of telling stories and giving advice but then he gets into his lesson. All you need to pass is take notes and study off the study sheet. I didn't have any trouble with the essay portion but it helps to outline beforehand. Make sure to attend movie nights for 7 extra credit points.
Dr. Verge is the best professor at El Camino he really cares for his students and is willing to help with everything. Has great history's to talk about and his books are just amazing he is a great writer also take this professor for history he is the best. His exams are pretty easy and the site reports is a bit Hassel but study and you will do fine
TERRIBLE
Dr. Verge is one of the BEST professors i have ever had at El Camino he is very passionate about his students. All he grades is 2 exams and a final (not cumulative), he gives study sheet for each exam, and i believe lets you have an index card for one of the exams.
Prof. Verge is an absolute GEM. He truly wants his students to succeed and is genuinely interested in furthering your education and helping you succeed in life. If you are a good student and respectful, he sees that. You can tell he surrounds himself with the best of the best & just listening to him talk inspires you to push yourself.
Professor Verge is very caring. The book is not required in class quite frankly I never purchased it and still got an A. Amazing lectures that is based on the exam, so listen to him and don't fall asleep in class. Enjoyed his stories about Maryann, his dogs, and brother. He offers 2 movie nights for extra credit which is so kind of him.
Probably one of the best professors I have had. He had his lecture fun and there was 2 extra credit opportunity and the class isn't that hard. You just need to study for the tests and pay attention in class.
One of THE BEST professors I have had at El Camino! He cares a lot about his students and wants them to do well! He offers two extra credit opportunities. So full of knowledge and shares great stories about his family and his past. I rented the book, but I do not think it is necessary, the notes he gives are enough. TAKE HIM!!
This teacher is absolutely hilarious. I've had many history teachers before and he is the best by far. He describes history very clearly and puts his own spin to make the information interesting. The only issue that I had was that the class was not interactive. I wish I could have talked to my seat partners or had a discussion.
Dr. Verge's courses are one-of-a-kind. You'll never end up bored in one of his lectures. His explanations of history and the connections he makes to the present day always leave you wanting more. As long as you attend class and pay attention (and study a tad before each test), you'll do just fine. Great humor, great advice, great information.
highly recommend this class, easiest history class and his lectures are really entertaining. He gives extra credit and is great in general.
Verge definitely is not for everyone. Takes a while to warm up to but in the end, is a great choice for a professor. His in-class lectures were amazing and a true gem. He suffered a lot due to the switch online due to his age and had very little contact with students. The class is extremely easy even if you don't like history.
Dr. Verge is a very eccentric man, his way of teaching is not boring and feels like he's telling entertaining stories. His lectures aren't as structured though, so beware of that. His lectures are fun, will make you look forward to being in his class.
He was out of the country up until last week. He was very unresponsive and no one had a grade until week 14, some not even until this week (week 15)! We only had 4 assignments, fine with me, but it originally was supposed to be 6 but because he was so unorganized and only emailed us like twice a month, he gave us a "covid break" and brought it down
He was out of the country for most (if not all) of the semester and only gave 3 assignments. The assignments are all essays but for the most part, he gives you creative freedom for these essays. Easy class and polite teacher.
Dr. Verge has an incredible way of teaching. I learned so much about how history connects to the city we live in. Do not take this Professor lightly, he knows exactly what he is looking for. Do the work, follow his instructions and you will do great. Otherwise, he is a tough grader. Love, love, love Dr. Verge!
You definitely might want to rethink and pick a new professor if your are taking HIST128, especially online. He doesn't respond to emails... none. You also actually learn absolutely NOTHING about California in a CALIFORNIA HISTORY class. Would never ever take this class again.
Easy A for sure. Just do well on the essays and you'll pass. No homework, no quizzes, no exams, no extra credit. Just 3 essays for the entire semester. Gives okay feedback. He says the textbook is required but I don't think it is necessary. He gives articles and videos to write about. Also, he does not respond to messages or emails.
I didn't get to know Professor Verge as I took him online, but he is caring but firm from what I could gather. He assigns three assignments; the first two require you to write 2-3 essays, and the final, just one (in total about 6 essays). However, I'm not sure if this is the exact structure of his class, as others have reported differently.
Inspiring and hilarious professor. No hw. It's only 3 exams wan essay included and 4 historic site reports. Tough grader when it comes to essays. Get ready to read the textbook and listen to his lectures. Attendance is mandatory. Site reports were fun. Just go to musuems that are close and interesting to you!
Taking this class was great experience. Lectures feel more like exciting stories than lectures. no homework. 3 quizzes with very simple multiple choice questions and a pre-given short essay quest. No stress and genuinely enjoyed coming to class. Textbook is required but we are barely tested on it. He allows 1 cheat sheet notecard per test.
Professor Verge was AMAZING! This was the first history class I've taken that I actually enjoyed and learned a lot in! His lectures are very interesting, combining American history with the history of Los Angeles and local culture. He gave us 3 exams throughout the semester, and one writing assignment. Pay attention in class, and you'll do well.
I enjoy history, and this class was no exception. I liked his lectures and came out of each class feeling more inspired and knowledgeable than when I arrived.
I took the course during winter, 3 exams, the mean was your final grade. Provides study guides for all three exams. The best part about this class is probably the fact that you finish the class with a ton of knowledge in the subject (American History from 1877 to present). Prof. Verge's lectures were genuinely interesting.
Great professor, very caring and wants you to succeed. Is willing to talk to you after class, and gives you real life advise which is rare for professors. Will go over class material when needed, and is always open for office hours Overall great professor, take him you won't regret it, because I know I didn't.
Very knowledgeable about history. Take advantage of the notecards he gives you. He requires a textbook but you don't need it, just take good notes and use those to study. Exams are the only thing that makes up your grade; they're easy but don't mess up. Great man and great professor, 10/10 would recommend and take again
He is a great professor and funny. He makes the class fun by telling silly stories. get ready to take a lot of notes and listen to his lectures carefully. he gives you a chance to get a good grade by giving you a card to write notes that could be on the test. really easy, just 3 test in total. And show up all day for extra points.
Dr. Verge is an amazing History Professor. He always comes to class excited to teach and his lectures are very helpful for his tests. He gives all the information you need to succeed in his class. He's a great Professor who teaches a lot about history and life as well. I would highly suggest taking him even if you don't need a history class!
excellent storyteller, mentor, and historian. he is an incredible teacher and truly understands the value of education. very fair and accomodating. he is entertaining and makes history so easy to understand. certainly a diamond in the rough. would take him again in a heartbeat
Most of the exam material came from the lectures so if you show up to class and take good notes you will be fine. He says we need the textbook but I didn't look at it once this semester. Gives great life advice and his site reports were very interesting. In total 3 exams and 4 reports no other assignments so make sure to study for the tests.
By far one of my favorite professors. He makes his lectures enjoyable in many ways, such as telling funny stories and giving plenty of life advices. 3 exams + essays which are 100% of your grade, so do not mess up or you might be done for. Gives 3x5 card before every exam. TAKE ADVANTAGE OF YOUR OPPORTUNITIES. He might average only the top 2 scores
One the best profs at ELCO. Near retirement but still full of life and passion for his subject. He goes on tangents to inspire students to think, but he has been my favorite professor in all my college experience. Make sure to take notes! Participate. Don't be shy. He has so much wisdom and experience. Ask questions. Or coast. He's a chill grader.
Awesome teacher. I took him over winter and he was very excited to be there. His lectures were very interesting, and it seemed like he always had a way to relate to them. The exams weren't very hard, all of the material covered was in the lectures. The site visits were also very fun, and the reports were very easy. I recommend this class a lot!
Professor Verge's 102H class is a must-take! His lectures are engaging, and he provides great life advice. For study prep, I found ChatGPT and Unstuckstudy super helpful. Attend class, take good notes, and you'll do well.
Only grades exams, gives flashcard cheat sheets for each exam. Lectures were amazing very engaging. Doesn't use canvas much and hard to contact via email. Attendance is important it counts toward final grade. Overall he was an amazing professor, it was the first history class I actually liked and learned.
he's retiring now, but if he ever comes back make sure to take him. he's one of the greatest professor's at Elco. he cares for his students and shares valuable life advice.
Best professor I've ever had. He makes the class so engaging, and don't get me started on the stories he has to tell it makes you so entertained and makes lots of jokes that are ACTUALLY FUNNY. It's sad he's retiring but might teach part time, if he does his classes are a MUST TAKE!
