I love history & I hated this professor. Even though I read the material & followed along online I still had no idea what I would get on each assignment because it was totally random. I'm taking this class in this semester with a different professor & I'm getting 100% with the same material. Avoid at all cost unless you can accept random grades.
This professor doesn't ask you to simply memorize dates and events but to analyze them. A different approach to history that I greatly enjoyed!
He is confusing on assignment dates. He'll give one date in the syllabus, but then assign a date two to three days earlier. Does not provide instructions as to what he desires, then gives arbitrary grading. Professor Arevalos, this system only works in Special Forces selection, not community college assignments. He's too focused on his ranch.
This is not a class for the lazy, His class is meant for individuals that are looking to achieve their goals and are education oriented. His class is hard but full of knowledge and historical principals that will make you think twice about everything going on in the world. I suggest this class to student who are ready to work hard for a grade.
Class is not easy but definitely worth it if you want to expand your thinking. He assigns "The World is Flat" on top of the textbook and it is an AMAZING book - I'm glad I took his class just for that. ID quizzes are tough, I got all A's but had to memorize sheets of facts. Chat with him during office hours, he's a brilliant conversationalist.
Dropped the class. He is not clear in what he wants from students. Asks you what you think, then barks when you give your opinion.
Extremely difficult to understand lectures (online course so all lectures were written). Disorganized, and ineffective professor. Spent many a Sunday night shaking my head and laughing at the disgraceful written lectures. You will be frustrated, prepare. I honestly think the department needs to re-evaluate him as a professor.
If you like Communism, Socialism, or the new Nationalism, this is your class. If you disagree with anything he says then prepared to be ignored or barked at. Don?t bother asking questions, they will be ignored or if he does answer, it won?t be relevant to the question. If he wasn?t tenured, he would have been fired a long time ago.
Arturo is such a joke. His class is all about "searching the websites" to learn history. If you "search the websites" you should do fine in the class. His exams are a joke. He asks essay questions and rambles on and on about writing a "strong thesis statement." He doesn't tell you what his idea of a "strong thesis" is. Totally a joke of a class.
Professor Arevalos is certainly not a joke. That's a bit harsh. What I've learned taking his HIST class: the more you put in, the more you get out. You've got to be a bit more self-motivated (then you would be taking a class in the classroom for example) to enjoy his teaching methods.
Mr. Arevalos contradicts himself. He says he has high standards for grammar and punctuation, however he does NOT hold himself to the same standards. He's unorganized and not clear on most of his instructions beyond "write more than a sentance about what you learned." Don't take him if you don't already know the cirriculum. He's pretty useless.

Not a good professor. He is not organized or clear in what he wants from students. His grading scale is based on previous students from previous semesters' to determine if you are "up to par". When asked specifically what he's looking for he will give another student as an example. Homework consists of finding websites pertaining to his lectures.
This teach is extremely easy. I took the class online and didnt really put much effort into it and I got an A.
Teacher was so disorganized that it was impossible to understand what he wanted from the class. He tests on the textbook yet never lectures on the material. He goes of on random streams of thought that do not even relate to the lesson or to history. He was often late and didn't seem interested.
As an online professor, Arevalos is clear and easy to understand in his requirements and directions. His assignments are not hard at all, but do require some reading and outside research (online). I found Arevalos to be very helpful and I appreciated how frequently he interacted with his students. If you put in the effort you will def get an A.
I took his history of the America's class online. Arevalos' directions are often times unclear and vague which makes it difficult to know what he expects of you. I took both semesters and recieved an A at first, but this semester if all adds up, I am supposed to get a D. Same amount of effort if not more. His grading scale is WAY OFF.
I did not find him to understand or follow and I appreciate the incorporation of real-world examples. For me history was a daunting class but I like the format of Professor Arevalos' class. I appreciate the method for which he grades your comprehension of the material and the nontraditional format of the class.
I found this instructor, to be extremely disorganized, and often quite argumentative, and more interested in challenging and arguing. It is unrealistic to imagine, or understand how on earth this person has tenure ? I find he needs counseling and extreme help emotionally as his behavior(s) interferes with his ability to perform well provessionally

This was my first time taking his class and I don't think I would take it again! In my opinion he seemed to be rude and not as helpful as he should have been. Do yourself a favor and don't take this class.
I liked Mr Arevelos so much I had him give my deploma.
His class requires a lot of writing. I submitted an average of 5 pages typed every week along with weekly discussion posts, and two essays (including one book report). He expects excellence out of his students and will not give points when weak effort is evident. His low score is likely due to those expecting an easy class. I recommend taking him.
Professor Arturo is a passionate teacher of history and writing. He def has a little attitude, don't we all? He wants to see his students learn. My interest was sparked in history from his course, I also learned how to write essays MUCH better. Take his class if your a mature responsible student. You will learn from this man. thnx Arturo!
his class is easy and says he is there to offer help whenever needed, but not once did he respond to my questions. He often thinks an intro class is a graduate level and expects excellence in many assignments that are complete bs. He is easy, but also unclear as to what he expects from students week to week.
Teacher is not graduate material. Cannot comprehend his job as a History 101 teacher. Very confusing on what is required from his class. Would highly NOT recommend this teacher.
This teacher is ridiculous. No matter what you turn in, he constantly criticizes your work as if you are writing your thesis on it. His directions for his assignments are brief, yet he takes points from you for things he didn't previously specify he wanted. This teacher has no idea what they are doing. His classes are a total waste of time.
I had Mr Arevalos in '93 after getting out of the Marines so whenever the military was mentioned in a lesson Mr Erickson was sure to be addressed to me for input. Unless his format has changed readings were a written test and orals were a verbal test. Great teacher had him for 100 and 101 Surprised he has retired to Colorado yet.
Lots of reading and writing but just do the assignments and you'll get an A.
I took the online History 110. Received an A. There is a lot of reading and writing as well as a book review. It's not hard , just a lot of work. Well explained assignments and tons of extra credit. I didn't meet him but the love of his subject matter came through even in the online class. Just do what's asked and you will do great.
Professor, is one of the Best!!!! He pay's attention to detail with all his students and is willing to work with you. If you habr a problem he is there! All you have to do is be a student that is practical and understanding for he will be understanding to you as well. All he asks is your honesty within yourself. Best Teacher by Far!
Professor Arevalos assigns long papers which are heavy on the textbook, his lectures (while interesting, they're not his (borrowed from his old professors or other Historians), as well as a weekly website collaboration. He offers extra credit if you (HINT: Read his announcements) and you're able to work ahead, making it easier to stay ahead.
Great class but a lot of writing.
This was his online course; relatively easy, so long as you did the reading. He has his students read multiple books throughout the class and if you apply yourself in the homework (long papers) you can skip the final and still maintain an 'A' in the course.
he is awesume
The class is well organized, easy to look and work ahead on assignments. The class does require lots of reading and writing, and I believe this class is only for the dedicated college student, who takes pride in hard work and who has a passion for learning. Five for easiness as Arevalos offers a full letter grade in extra credit points.
This was a great class! He is super fair with grading and gives you plenty of opportunities to do well. There are a lot of extra credit opportunities as well. Since it was online, it was a heavy reading class but honestly it wasn't bad at all. It's fairly easy if you just do your homework! Great lectures and feedback!
This was my first online class and it really set the standard for me going forward. Mr. Arevalos was a fair grader and provided more than enough chance to students to receive an "A" for this course. Do the reading; do the postings; you will do great. He is a good teacher and encourages you to think for yourself, applying what you are learning.
This class seems easy on the outside, but deep down it's tough. There is a paper due each week along with the reading. Don't like papers? Don't take the class, he gives good feedback to help you succeed and answers emails quickly. I would take his class again, as long as I don't have an english class along with it.
I have this professor before, he does give good lectures, yes he is hard but hi topics are great. He does give good feedback and will let you know how your doing in class. I love his novel choice. He is very understanding if you just let him know whats up.
I did not like this class at all. It made me very angry all semester. He is not very clear on explaining to you what your grade is in the class and is not a good communicator. When I asked him for office hours, to discuss my grade, he never gave them to me. He is a very tough grader as well. Ive never taken an online class as bad as this one.
While I appreciated some aspects of the class (no tests, his caring demeanor), the lectures were sub par. He told us that the lectures often consisted of notes he had written in history classes he took back in college, and that showed. They are unclear and frustrating to follow. I enjoy history normally, but I did not enjoy this class.
Would not recommend this class at all, he does NOT give full credit for what you are asked. I have been a straight A student all throughout my life and got a C in this class. He is very unclear about his assignments. One time I identified 6 key terms instead of 5, I DID EXTRA CREDIT! and he marked me down to a 4/5 for that. YOU WILL BE FRUSTRATED
Nice guy, however he runs his online course in a pretty confusing way. He began consistently giving me half credit on weekly assignments because I refrained from the weekly extra credit.
He inspired me to live history. Because of him, I went on to UCSD and majored in History and enjoyed getting my degree. He spent time with me when I needed it.
This was a great class. The professor wants you to reflect on what you've learned, not just spit facts back out. Don't be scared-he doesn't want you to write an essay for weekly questions, just a good paragraph or two. No tests. No quizzes. Minimal discussions AND he lets you make up for missed assignments if you just ask. Easy A.
Read the material, read the instructions, do the assignments and you will get a A. I did all of the work plus all extra credit which was EASY and I got 109% and he let me off the hook for the final I didn't have to take it. Great Professor just do the work and you'll get an A
Update- I am taking history with this professor, in one of his assignment (Discussion #9) he asked if we (The students) are antifederalist/ pro federalist - he only gave half credit to those that were neither or anti federalist. Never have I dealt with such a weird behaved teacher.
Very tough grader, did let you resubmit low score assignments for a higher grade. Tons of homework and all assignments are due at 11:00 pm. His a harsh grader so be very detailed on work. Does give back feedback on assignments. Easy class. Homework only no quizzes, no midterm, only final exam. Last assignment is novel with detailed QA answers.
This professor was okay, it was just more work than I would have liked. Lots of lecture videos but he does provide the outline. Wouldn't want to repeat this course but would do it if I had to.
