Very interesting class! 1 semester is not enough time to learn the many aspects on Ancient Mexico! Mr. V did an excellent job at breaking down the literature. He's approachable, very helpful and sincere about teaching. (More than I can say for most teachers!)

Very good teacher. I enjoyed taking his class since the first day. He has a lot of stories to tell that are funny and interesting. That makes it easy to remember the lectures when taking tests. I took the course over the summer and got an Am, you just need to be there, listen, take some notes and be there to take the quizzes and tests.

A very good teacher. I don't regret taking Mexican-American Culture at all. I really learned a lot. He's always there during his office hours, and he gives very good lectures. You have to buy the books though, because the quizzes are based on them.

He is a great person and a great teacher. He does not prefer his Mexican students (I can say this from experience) People just don't ask for help. They are probably just afraid that he might not help them, but he will always help a student that needs it and of course one that ASKS for it.

Professor V is very easy to understand, he knows his stuff and is very humorous about it. Class is pretty much mandatory because the test are based on lecture. Text book seems useless haven't even opened it up all semester. Overall, if you go to class and take notes you should pass with an A.

Mr. V is an excellent instructor and makes each class interesting. The textbook is required to pass the class. Be prepared to do LOTS of reading. There are four exams that are multiple choice and you must submit a research paper and do a brief presentation at the end of the semester. Attendance is a plus!

Mr. V is the coolest professor I've had thus far. Not only is he as wise guy (he's a comedian), but he's down to earth as well. His teaching method is his way of life. He's comfortable w/who he is, that he wants you to be comfortable with the subject he teaches as well. I'd highly recommend him.

I took this class over summer. It's the first C I've ever got. I had a lot of difficulty due to the class being so short and they didn't provide a book for summer. You had to study from your notes. He's a nice guy though. I just hope other people had better luck.

I took this teacher for Intro to anthropology and because of him I plan to major in archeology. He is a very nice teacher and helps you out a lot. Very approachable and willing to talk after hours.

Recommended. I never read the text and I got a B on the exam. He gives you a handout for the Latin exam. He lets you know what will be on the exam during lecture. He tries his best to keep the class in engaged.

Very likeable professor, he really knows what he's talking about, you will learn a lot from this man! His class was something I looked forward to. Very few tests are given so you must pay attention to his lectures, which are VERY interesting. Be studious in this class, even if he does give out a studyguide.

Easily one of my favorite professors at EVC. Every class session is funny and minimal homework is given. Mr. Villarreal is so passionate about his ethnicity and class it makes it that much more interesting. The tests are a little harder but as long as you show up to class every day and take good notes, you should pass easily.

His tests are quite easy, almost too easy. On the other hand he guides you through the lectures and helps others along the way by following up with "Any questions?" after each slide or section of the lecture, only to be repeating the information to those that were missing the information.

He is very passionate about his job and he actually cares for his students. He is very helpful, always answers questions students may have. He has a sense of humor too. His tests are easy, just take notes in his class. He doesn't give a lot of homework but he does give 3 essays for the whole semester but they are very easy to write. Take his class.

He is very good, take good notes and do not spend too much on new books you would be fine...be prepare for a life history project as an interview with an elderly Chicano person, so if you do not know one, find her/him as soon as possible, then you will be fine in this class.

I took him during inter. spring 14 and it sure paid off I got an A the only things you have to do is take good notes do two research papers that do take some serious effort one is an interview seven page historical life paper. Pro. Villarreal is the freaking greatest! He's way funny and so passionate about Chicano Culture. He, himself, is a chicano and so he provides great stories and insight about the topics. The class is really easy if you pay attention and take notes. Make sure to address everything he asks you to on the papers and you should be fine! I got an 110% !

You can tell Villareal is extremely knowledgeable and passionate. His lectures are backed up by experience and he knows how to make it interesting. Easy tests and covers the material thoroughly.

This teacher is very good. However his study guides do not help you for the test. some of it yes it on the test and some i have no idea where he got the questions from. Very funny and yes helpful but his test are not very organized or well put together.

Great teacher, he sincerely cares for his students, he is an expert in anthropology, and the only assignments are 3 tests throughout the whole semester. I really recommend him but I also recommend Ethnic Studies because you get to learn about the world and yourself.

Best teacher on campus. From day one it made me depressed to know this class would one day end because it's so fun and he's hilarious. He makes everything so much easier because he has a review test right before the tests. It's hard to fail. Grades are negotiable under the right circumstances of course. He's a sweetheart and there for all students!

He is a great teacher! I personally slacked at the beginning of the semester, but managed to get a good grade! Take notes on his lectures and there is no way you can fail! Gives two writing assignments, one quiz, midterm, and final. All questions come from his lectures. It was definitely a fun and eye opening class.

Villarreal, is very layer back & nice. I had him for Chicano/a Culture & I've was amazed about my roots & learned a lot who I am. There's no homework besides 2 assignments, but only 2 quizzes plus a final. Don't skip class cause each class meet you take notes & you'll need it to study for the exams to pass because questions are confusing.

I took him for 2017 winter intersession for chicano studies, it is easy if you take the time to study before a test. He did offer extra credit to anyone who wanted it and does accept late papers (but don't take advantage of that). Only had two papers to do and they were super easy and one quiz, midterm, and final. Not too hard for a 3 week class

I have taken two of his classes at Evergreen Valley College and wish I could have booked more. The content of his material is essential for a California resident. He has a jovial and honest persona. The content of his material allowed me to further appreciate diversity and my ancestry.

Villarreal is a great professor. I took his Monday night evening class and he made the class interesting. He always had great life experiences that made class fun! The key is to attend class and study notes for the midterm and final. I definitely recommend him!

Mr. Villareal is funny & is clear with his expectations. In regards to his lectures he goes by pretty fast and just tells you it's in the textbook (which isn't even necesary) however, he gives a study guide and helps you prepare for the midterm or final. Professor Villarreal is very funny and easy to understand. He is a little unpredictable at times when it comes to reviewing for tests, but he does emphasize the things you absolutely need to know for the test. The only problem is that majority of his tests are made up of trick questions, so watch out!

I took this class for mandatory requirement. I hated the course content off the bat, it didn't interest me, it didn't concern me, and it didn't engage me. By the end of the semester I was truly bummed out that it ended. I looked forward to it every week. The class and professor ended up being my favorite I've ever taken in my academic life.

Loved learning about my culture and it helped that he thought it so well that it is easy to grasp. Also hes very funny and can connect his life to the lessons.

The class consisted of one quiz, a midterm, two papers, and a final. There is no homework. Make sure to take notes on everything he lectures on because it will be on the tests! If you attend class, take notes (use these to study for tests),and complete the two papers, you're pretty much guaranteed an A! One extra credit opportunity,if you ask him!

The only way you can fail this class is if you dont try. He uses inexpensive books and gives study guides which I always appreciate In a teacher. He tries to throw some jokes in here & there but lectures & assignments/ projects are not hard at all. You cant go wrong with him.

Personally, Ethnic Studies is not a class that I would generally enjoy. However, Professor Villareal is very clear and concise by thoroughly explaining topics along with the details. Professor Villareal does provide exam study guides but I would say only 75% is viable on the actual exam so study everything. You must take notes to pass the class.

He's a pretty decent lecturer and he makes people laugh. He gives great extra credit opportunities and I learned a lot of cool things from his lectures. I dislike how politically biased some things are though and if you wanted to politely discuss the opposing viewpoint, you will be attacked, no matter how polite you are. :(

Great class and great teacher! show up to class and take notes and youll pass with an easy A. He sometimes goes to fast through the slides but just take pictures of each slide and you'll be set! don't wait till the last minute to finish your papers , he gives you more than enough time to finish them.

Mandatory attendance. Super nice and has great lectures. But you only get graded on the tests in the class. Theres no hw so make sure you study for the tests and youll be fine. He does have extra credit that make a huge difference on your grade, so dont skip out on those especially the easy ones where you just have to listen to a podcast

I would recommend this professor. He doesn't give HW, class is just based on one paper and three tests. They are pretty hard but if you study you MIGHT pass, the reason I say might is because test 3 had errors. So I got a worse score when in reality he selected the wrong answers. Thankfully it was fixed. Fun Fact: he's the same teacher my mom had.

I first encountered Professor Villarreal in ETH 10, and I must say he truly is a great professor! He's not only funny, but he is also a true expert, and I'm super glad I learned from him! Take any of his classes because you can't go wrong!

I can always appreciate a teacher who presents more facts in his lectures than personal opinions. Honestly, his co-professor is hard to listen to but he was worth it. 3 exams make up your grade. If you're taking Chicano/a class take this professor. Lectures are brief and to the point. take good notes and you will pass quizzes. 4 quizzes total and one interview paper due 7pg double spaced. He lectures a review before quizzes. If you just watch the test review lectures you will pass the test/quizzes.

Love this course, would take it again. You only have 4 main checkpoints/assignments that sum up your knowledge of content. One of them is a paper (relatively challenging) and the rest are exams (I found them manageable). He is very kind and thoughtful professor, class act.

Super easy course. Lectures were great and informative. I took his hybrid course, lectures were in person and 3 tests were online. You can retake the test 3 times and it'll save your highest score. I bought the textbook but it was not needed. Lectures slides are also available on Canvas during the test. Just 3 tests, no homework. No participation

Professor Arturo Villarreal, is an amazing professor and I've learned so much taking his ethnic studies class. In this class, there is no homework, zoom meetings and discussions. Overall, there will be three exams but they are OPEN BOOK/NOTES. Also, he provides a lot of EXTRA CREDIT opportunities for anyone to boost up their grade :) !!

Prof. Villarreal truly is wise in this subject, so it is hard to get off easy when it comes to the material. So many of my peers did not buy the book with the class, and I recommend you not to do the same because it will come in handy for the exam and papers! do not take the shortcut! over all 10/10 would take him again.

I really enjoyed this class. Quizzes and test were multiple choice. He gives out study review papers. He was very helpful on my research paper. Very responsive and the pace of the class was good. There are a few papers, I think it was 3 papers and one research paper. His lectures are straight to the point.

I took his online late start course fall semester of 2023 and it was very easy. 3 very easy papers and two exams. He posts old zoom videos for lecture and asks that you read the assigned textbook. I did not watch his lecture videos or read the text and still got an A. TAKE HIM. Easy A.

Professor Villarreal's material is clear cut. The lectures may be a bit outdated, sometimes what he wants you to study if a bit off course from your book but the material is easy to locate.
