His method of presenting lectures is very unclear and makes concepts very hard to grasp. Homework assignments are difficult. Not very helpful in office hours.
You study concepts in class but the midterm is almost all calculations. Hard homework, and not very helpful. Doesn't give good enough examples of the calculations which makes them difficult.
Dont take this class with him. He tried to trick everyone into not dropping by saying the class is easy but it isnt if you want an A or B. He is a HORRIBLE teacher and he spends most of the time on conceptual ideas is class but then gives all quantitative math problems for HW and tests. He thinks he is teaching a graduate Genetics/statistics class.
Everything people have written so far is totally true and it's no joke. HE DOES NOT CURVE EITHER! So over half of us will be retaking the class!! If you're not an evolution major, take another professor.
Yeah he was hard, but it was his first time teaching the class; he is willing to change how he teaches. The homework was hard, but you worked in groups so someone would know how to do it. No curve, but the grading scale was very low(30%C-) Lectures didn't make sense the first time around, but they were posted online & were understandable afterwards
Absolutely hated his lectures and assignments. Powerpoints full of unnecessary details and bloated to over a hundred slides. Seemed resistant to change teaching style even after lots of criticism. Skimmed over concepts and assumed we knew stuff that we never covered before. Grading scale makes it easy to get a C but difficult to get higher.
He was a difficult teacher, and his lectures were very boring, but he did use real examples and he kept asking how to improve them. The class is almost completely conceptual - no amount of memorizing will help you. He ended up curving in the end (the other people posted too early) so hardly anyone in the entire class failed (a LOT of A's too!)
Professor Kopp does not lecture on what will be on his tests at all. He will spend several lectures covering a topic, and that topic won't find it's way onto the exams. Avoid him at all costs. I enjoyed evolutionary biology going into the quarter and had a bad taste in my mouth by the end of the quarter.
Dr. Kopp's class is very challenging, but he's always willing to discuss questions/concerns in office hours. If you lose points on an assignment, but can argue your point well, he might give them back to you. This is class is tough; the material is dense, and there's a lot of it, but he does all he can to help you succeed.
The lectures were terrible. This is the only professor that I have ever had that i would recommend not take.
The man stood in front of the class with devil horns and a pitchfork Powerpoint clicker. Definitely hot.
Fairly difficult course. His teaching style was different than most professors and had to adjust at the beginning of the quarter. You have to go through his questions with at least 2 fine-tooth combs. One of my most difficult classes at Davis, but probably the MOST rewarding in terms of looking at problems scientific or not, in a different way.
This was the worst learning experience I've ever had. If you can, take it with a different instructor. Text book was difficult, class lectures were not clear and quizes questions were hard to decipher. Extremely frustrating. He teaches this introduction to evolution class as if we were all grad students.
This is a hard class with tons and tons of info, but Dr. Kopp genuinely cares about his students and wants them to learn. Use his office hours!
This class had an incredible amount of work, but the material isn't so hard to learn. There is tons of reading, online quizzes, homeworks, huge lectures to keep up with. He is a pretty good teacher, and enthusiastic. He just lectures too fast and tries to cover way too much material. This class took all of my time for the quarter.
Very interesting class, but a lot of work: quizzes, homeworks, and mandatory clicker questions every lecture.
Super accommodating to students. Really enjoys the material. Lots of material, but it's generally interesting. Have to connect big ideas yourself, but group work/brainstorming is encouraged. Makes it easy to get as many points as possible, though still tough. You're really expected to know the material. Can't really bullcrap your way through it.
Dr. Kopp is a charismatic and enthusiastic lecturer. He is very nice and helpful to his students. His questions can often be confusing, due to wording, so seek help if you need it. Read the articles he gives, and do the extra credit, it will boost your grade; I was able to get an A+. My TA was nice, though we joked that she seemed stoned.
This class is easy to pass/get a good grade because a 50/100 is a C-. The material is fast, sometimes interesting, and there's a lot of work involved (clicker questions, online quizzes, homework). Midterm and final were pretty easy in comparison to other work.
He really cares about his students and wants them to do well. He provides lots of office hours (GO TO THEM!) for help on the HW. There are 3 HWs, 1 extra credit HW, 1 MT and final - all are demanding and difficult. He provides in-depth lecture notes, but they are long and take LOTS of time to go through. Got to work hard to do well in this class.
He's a good teacher and this class is interesting and engaging. You do not HAVE to show up for class, but he uses clickers that are about 10%+ of your grade. The homeworks are time consuming. I didn't read the text book, or attend discussion but still got an A. I liked this class and I liked his lecturing, you just have to pay attention to do ok.
He is really hard and his class goes pretty fast
His lecture is really hard, and his test is really tricky. Most times it's hard to figure out the answer in his test.
Interesting material, tests are not that difficult as long as you learn the material more deeply than just memorization, professor is very approachable and a pretty kind and chill guy. I'd take him again if I had the opportunity.
He is really passionate about his lectures. GO TO OFFICE HOURS. He is super helpful. Getting a good grade isn't hard just put in time reading, online quizzes, reviewing etc.
Prof. Kopp is a really nice guy. His exams aren't very hard if you take the time to REALLY understand everything. Read the textbook and go over his ppt slides before exams. Ask lots of questions too! Grading is really fair. Plus, he gives a lot of extra credit clicker questions that add to your final grade! I would take him again.
If he wasnt hot I think this class would have bored me to death lol. He's very very smart and really passionate about science, but his tests are pretty tricky at times.
Amazing teacher! Not too hard as long as you review and keep up with the reading. He is as clear as any teacher can be. He is also super entertaining with his Russian accent.
He is a good speaker and I enjoyed his lectures and how he taught. Looks at a things from an evolutionary perspective (eg metabolic lifestyles). He talks kind of fast though, so I would bring a laptop to take notes with. Tests aren't easy, make sure to review past ones for the final. It helps to go through slides and listen to the podcasts.
He is knowledgeable and his powerpoints are very detailed so reading the textbook isn't really necessary, but he is a tough professor. In comparison to the other profession teaching BIS 2A, his tests are harder. Tests are based partly on application of concepts which you get a feel for in lecture with clicker questions.
Awesome professor. He is amazing and really interesting. His tests are difficult but he gives out a ridiculous amount of extra credit points. I would recommend him to everyone. He keeps you engaged and is very clear. No surprises with him.
Although tests are VERY tricky, lectures are very informative and interesting. His class isn't curved, but an A- does start at an 85%. Offers extra credit points, mostly thru in class iClicker questions. Stresses concepts and application, not much memorization. Read lectures and textbook before class! Has Russian accent, but wasn't a problem.
Very good professor. Lectures were easy to understand and helped reinforce the information from the textbook. Both lectures and textbook reading is incorporated into exams, which can be difficult if not prepared for. He doesn't curve, but there are A TON of bonus points to boost your grade.
He's really passionate about the material and made the class very interesting. Tests are difficult- 33 questions all multiple choice, so it's hard to do well, but the ridiculous amount of extra credit clicker points and bonus exam questions will balance out your grade. Would take again.
I started out scared about getting a C in the class from 1st midterm. But since the course is out of 500 points, doing kinda bad on the 1st midterm had a really minimal effect, even though there was no curve. He gave out a TON of extra credit through clicker questions and test questions. Pretty sure clicker questions make up like 10% of my grade.
I think Kopp is good at explaining things but his tests are pretty ridiculous. Way harder than it needs to be.
He really wants his students to focus on learning biology and not the grade, so he has a generous grading scale and EC opportunities to ease some pressure. Note that even with the lower grade standards, though, his class is still challenging! Still, I liked BIS 2A more and did better than I thought I would. He was a good professor for sure.
Kopp knows how to teach very well. Although the material is difficult, he is good at making it interesting and fun to learn. Provides the material to prepare for exams, which are straightforward. If you don't put in the effort, you won't pass.
Professor Kopp is very enthusiastic about the subject which makes most of his lectures pretty engaging. He goes into detail with many of the topics which can become confusing. I highly recommend you read the textbook before going to each class. It will make his lectures much clearer. Exams are tough but doable. EC is helpful!
Artyom is incredibly knowledgeable about evolutionary development and he thoroughly approaches a variety of different focuses in the current field. Lectures were backed up by current knowledge and research. There are three papers for this class which were difficult, but thus far has been the most rewarding class of my undergraduate experience.
Midterms and finals are all multiple choice. The class is based on a point system: 2-100 pt MT's, 1-100 pt discussion, and 1- 200pt final. If you read, do all the online activities, and study the lecture slides, you'll do great! The class is difficult because memorization isn't enough; understanding the concepts is key to doing well.
He is the best prof I've ever met in here. He is so nice and helps students a lot. He always encourage students to think critically because he welcomes students to talk about science (even not related to the class) during his office hours. Although test are tough, he tries his best to explain the theory. Clicker points really help to boost up grade
Engaging lecturer. He is passionate about biology and emphasizes understanding concepts over memorization. Tests were very hard. I went to office hours once and he seemed a little mean, sort of laughing at people's questions. He gives extra credit for clicker questions.
This class made me realize that I'm not cut out for science. it's a very hard class is the gist of it. The tests are really tough and there is a lot of material to cover. If you like science, you'll probably be fine.
Prepare to understand a lot of material. He is an amazing lecturer, I felt like everything he says during the lecture is very important so I always listen. However, exams are really hard, but as long as you understand the concepts, and put a lot of effort, you'll do fine. Probably the hardest class I've ever taken.
Fair in grading and teaching. At first when I saw his ratings on rmp, I knew immediately he was going to be hard. Turns out that he's hard in a good way and not in a bad way. What I mean by this is he gives extra credit through clicker questions in class and he emphasizes a lot on learning not memorizing the material. Take him for BIS 2A!
His exams were very hard. Even though I read the textbook, I still didn't understand his questions on the exam. He does give bonus points during lectures using the iclicker, but they don't help that much.
Yes, this class is very hard. But Professor Kopp is such an incredible teacher. He made me excited about biology and life and learning. No curve, but there's extra credit. If you're a hard worker, you'll do well in this class. The exams are difficult but the extra credit makes up for it. His love for science is inspiring and I'm so glad I had him!
KINDA glad I didn't pass his class. Gives x-tra credit for clicker points, but you get points if you correctly guess the confusing questions. Not really "learning". His exams make u question your major ha. He is very passionate, but I literally learned nothing and would have had a crappy foundation of biology for BIS2b. Take Dr. Igo instead.
Very hard class. Tests were super hard.
He made the class unnecessarily difficult. He expects you to read the chapters, read the lecture slides and online material, and remember everything in lecture, each part having completely different material but all were tested. He does not teach well and I suggest avoiding at all costs.
This class was incredibly difficult for me. If you can avoid him, it would save your GPA and time. I don't hate the professor, but it was just really hard for me to understand the abundance of material that was given to me every lecture. Before I get time to digest even half of it, more is thrown out. :(
I really wish I had listened to the ratings here telling me not to take his class. Please AVOID him! It will definitely save your GPA. This isn't one of those classes where you can work hard and do fine. He purposely makes the class extremely difficult for no reason and on top of that he does NOT curve. His lectures are also really boring.
For BIS 2A, this is one of the best professors. People need to realize how hard BIS 2A is, they want it to be hard. He gives an INSANE amount of EC. If you aren't on top of any BIS 2A class you will fail. But Kopp gives you a better chance of pass. only 10% of the class failed and 1/3 of the class received A's. It really isn't that bad.
He does a great job in lecturing and feeding you the material of Bis 2A. People need to realize this class in general is hard and it can be challenging. That is why Kopp gives the material so you can succeed. He is very organized and he also posts all his lecture and notes on canvas. Be prepared to do a lot of thinking and understanding the concept
Overall, I'd say Kopp is a good professor. He's very clear during lectures and is organized. His tests are difficult but definitely doable if you stay on top of the reading, lecture notes, and take advantage of resources. He gives out a TON of extra credit, over 100 points throughout the quarter (around 10% grade boost).
Kopp is a solid choice. He does consider his lectures as "commentary" on the material you should be learning by doing the reading and going over slides before lecture. His class is a lot of work and test questions aren't super straightforward, but I appreciated that he is an engaging lecturer. Clicker points are extra credit!
There is no curve in his classes but many extra credits. Although his tests are relatively hard but the main point is only about testing whether we understand the theory or not instead of testing whether we rememeber all data. He makes his own way of teaching and if you want to pass the exam easily, you'd better read books and his slides carefully!
Avoided meeting me for office hours, great teacher otherwise.
Dr. Kopp is probably one of the better choices for the options of who to take BIS2A with. The test are very difficult but there are other places to gain points (discussion, participation, etc). Most of the class passed when I took it, so as long as you put in the effort you should end up fine.
Dr. Kopp was a harder professor, but he made Bis2a enjoyable. His clicker questions are tricky, but they do help the grade. He has good slides and listening to podcasts helps. Also, he gives good extra credit opportunities.
I think that Kopp is a wonderful professor for BIS2a. Its not an easy A class regardless of whos teaching, but he gives lots of opportunities to get points (online quizzes, clicker qs, etc). His tests are fair and he is a good lecturer. I would definitely take him again!
Makes the class more difficult then it needs to be. Test questions are extremely confusing.... you can memorize the textbook and the slides and still fail.
Kopp made bis2a very enjoyable. He's a really great professor and I actually looked forward to going to his lectures. The exams are definitely difficult, but they're manageable as long you look through his lecture slides. The extra credit clicker questions really help boost the grade.
Kopp is honestly the best choice for bis 2A if you really want to learn the material. He teaches in a very unusual manner, to us that is, because he genuinely wants us to retain information and develop good habits. I definitely would not hesitate to take Kopp.
The best professor for BIS 2A because of his "unorthodox" teaching style and test questions. His exams are indeed tough due to the amount of creativity involved, but clicker questions are extra credit to compensate. 1/3 of the class got A/A- due to the myriad of ways to earn points. I got a D on the first exam and manage to come back to A.
If youre taking this class and trying to see how it works out for a few weeks, then I would not recommend. Beginning of week 7 and nothing is in our gradebook.
This class is a joke. His teaching style and structure is all over the place, even the TAs are confused. He still hasnt submitted our grades yet and its more than halfway through the quarter. Would not recommend.
I didn't know I could hate a class this much. This class has made my quarter a hell. He has ridiculously long and dense lectures and homework that is too difficult for even the TA's. The study questions are long and in-depth but there are no answers given out. The tests are too difficult and long and, as of week 8, I still don't know my grade.
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS WITH THIS PROFESSOR. His lectures are extremely dense, he gives long homework assignments that are almost impossible to complete, he gives very difficult study questions and then never provides the answers, his tests are almost impossible, and he is very unapproachable. Stay away from this teacher.
Dont take this professor!!!!! He is very unreasonable! Some of the homeworks are insane and the TAs dont even know what hes doing. Its week 8 and we have no idea what our only midterm grade is. He tries to "train" you to think a certain way and goes way too in depth with the subject when this class is an INTRO class. 11/10 do NOT recommend
I had to do a lot of self teaching. The class is curved, but the averages were Fs on exams. He makes this class way too hard for an intro to Bio, and did not come across as caring about his students (told us only to come to OH if we had a science question). Has clicker questions. You have to read the chapter(s) before class and take a quiz on them.
Honestly despite what everyone says, I don't think he was a bad professor. Never went to class and studied for 5 weeks worth of material for final (using study guide TA filled out for us) in a half a day and got a B+ in the class. Do the extra credit to help raise your grade. Some questions on final were directly from study guide lol
Best teacher I've had in my educational career. I'm taking BIS2A during my 1st quarter at UCD & didn't take AP Bio in hs. The class is difficult but he explains concepts so well and gives great analogies. I feel like I really understand life on a chemical level now. He cares about learning, not memorizing and grades are based on many assignments.
He was an okay lecturer but there's a lot of miscommunication between TAs and the prof and no helpful study guide so you're on your own on choosing material to review; did terrible on all exams but survived with discussion assignments and online quizzes. The class is terribly hard and complex so don't be fooled by thinking "intro" represents it
DO THE CLICKER QUESTIONS Kopp is extremely difficult, but he really enjoys the subject. You will not get a good grade doing the bare minimum. With extra credit, I would have had a comfortable C, but I list my clicker, and barely passed with a C-.
Great professor. I got an A+.
I became an LA for bis 2a after taking his class, after talking to TAs and students. I'd say he's definitely the best bis 2a professor out there. His exams are a little tricky but getting good grades in his class is definitely doable. But most importantly going to his office hours is an absolute delight if you love biology. An inspiring professor.
Great Professor! Challenging, but I learned a lot from his class.
Literally doesn't teach 75% of the material. He expects you to learn the foundational material from the textbook and then apply it to his lectures. You literally go through one chapter each day of lecture. Since the class goes so fast you can't learn the material nearly as well so if you are pre-med you will have to self-teach all of BIS 2A again
This class was so much reading and none of the information was selected on the midterm. The midterm average was an F and he admitted to making the test 20% too hard but didn't do anything about it and would not curve it. Thankful for chegg.
I want to start off by differentiating his teaching style from his grading. He's a fantastic teacher, his lectures are engaging and he gives plenty of optional reading, if you're interested. The tests are absolutely awful, though, and the average of our third midterm was an F.
Kind and helpful, but super unfair. His midterms were not at all reflective on the material that was covered. One of those classes in which the work put in does not reflect your score. Avoid if possible.
His lectures are okay but his midterms/exams DESTROYED ME. He seems like the sweetest guy but his exams had nothing to do with what we learned in lecture and he didn't have practice exams either.
creates tests that are not representative of what he's taught us. He's nicer than Singer but is still just as awful at teaching. I self-taught everything with the book.
I really enjoyed Professor Kopp. He covered the second part of my BIS 2A course. He was much better than the professor that covered the first part. He loved to have a conversation with his students, and he always seemed very organized with his lectures. You do also have to read the book as well to do well.
Kopp is one of the only professors I know that requires you to know information from the textbook that is not included in the lecture, so this class has a lot more work than similar classes. Tests tend to be pretty tricky and difficult to get great scores on, but not difficult to pass.
Good lecturer and a real repository of evolutionary knowledge. Weekly modules helped you check your knowledge and were multiple choice, but tests were all written and made you really prove you knew what you were talking about. Grades are set at the beginning, e.g. A is 450 points or more. Great guy and pretty funny too.
Graded by 2 midterms, final, discussion participation, and online homeworks. Lectures were difficult to comprehend and tests were unlike some of the course information learned. Overall just a difficult class and requires lots of effort. TA for my discussion section was helpful.
Kopp really wasn't as bad as I expected. His exams were challenging so you need to really understand the concepts before the exams or you're screwed. He aims for the test average to be 60% so if you do all the busy work you can still do well in the class even with poor test scores. He is far from traditional but his class wasn't that horrible
I enjoyed Prof. Kopp's class, I'm not that great in bio, but I still managed to do well in his class. He's a really cool guy but you will definitely have to work in this class. It was graded on two midterms (multiple choice), discussion assn, clicker q's, mini canvas quizzes, and the final. Super doable if you're ready to put in the work.
AP Bio really saved me in this class. It was basically a review for me but more difficult since more material was covered. This class is based on the number of points you get so the more points you have the better. No curve except the iclickers. Study for the tests and study the Achieve quizzes because it'll help a lot on the test trust me.
Bis 2A is a hard class already so you have to put in effort to stay on top of class. Kopp tried to make his lectures engaging and interesting with real life examples and it is an interesting if you like biology. The Midterms and Exams were extremely hard for me but he gives a lot of extra credit and drop lowest quiz grade to make up for it.
Please avoid this professor if you can, very first day of class he told everyone that he makes the class difficult on purpose because he gets a kick out of it. Textbook and online questions dont make sense, lectures go too fast & the fact that his exam averages every year are 60% speaks more about this guy more than anything. TAs taught better tbh.
Kopp was an okay professor, I feel the main issue with him is that there is way too much material to digest from every lecture and textbook. I would study for days and still find something I wouldn't know on tests. The class average on exams was always below 70%, which gives you an idea on his difficulty. Wouldn't have passed without the TAs.
Professor Kopp is clearly passionate about what he teaches but the workload is very demanding. He expected the text book chapters to be read as well as a pre-lecture quiz to be completed before every lecture as well. Lectures were made mandatory by iclicker questions that are graded upon accuracy. Does not curve tests despite a 60% average.
His lectures were usually interesting, and the homework and discussion assignments were generally pretty easy. The exams were hard though, but going to the TA's lecture reviews could help you study the material to do better on the exams. There were a few extra credit opportunities.
Loved the way this professor taught and material was interesting. Definitely a lot of work and readings are necessary if you want to understand the lectures in depth. Iclickers are not super difficult and good to have people around u for help. TA discussions and office hours are very helpful. Does offer extra credit
avoiding this instructor.
very hard class but kopp is one of the better bis 2a profs he grows on you
he is cool but i am failing. he has purple sneakers. he puts much weight on assignments. he wants people to get 60-65 on exams without a curve. but it's ok. unless i don't pass. then i'll be pissed. he does iclicker. it sucks. exams are multiple choice. prepare to have a coin to flip (but in your imagination)
Lectures are clear, don't follow textbook and homework so they can be difficult to do. Go to lecture reviews w/ the LAs, necessary for learning material to the level needed for exams. Graded iclicker, you lose points for skipping or getting them wrong. Exams are multiple choice and comprehension, so you have to really know the material to do well.
Greater professor, reveling something deep of biological concept. It is always so intriguing to take his class.
Kopp is a great professor it's just a hard class. Lots of material you need to learn for each exam: two midterms at 12.5% & final is 20%. Tests are multiple choice, not curved, but final grades and iclicker are. Attendance mandatory cause of iclicker. Easy class to pass if u do the online quizzes and lab manual each week and average on the tests.
It's a hard class with difficult exams, attendance mandatory due to iclicker. I only went to lecture 4 times this quarter but manage to did well on final so I pass (extremely hard imo), it's super stressful tho.
As someone whose never taken a proper biology class, this class was definitely hard. A good chunk of your grade relies on the take home assignments and discussions which are easy points. He's a good professor, it's just hard to keep up with the heavy material. All exams were difficult, but it's still possible to pass. No curve, just point cutoffs.
Dr. Kopp is an amazing lecturer and tries to make lectures engaging by tying in evolutionary concepts into biochemistry and molecular biology. His test questions are difficult, however, they are doable if you go to lecture and discussion as they are similar to the iClicker in class. One of the best professors I've had at UCD!
Not an easy class however it is doable. Very easy to get at least a B in the class since a lot of the points come from at-home assignments - doing well on the exams and getting an A is hard. The exams/final are pretty hard I would say. They require A LOT of deep thinking as he tries to trick you. Overall, good professor and great lectures.
I took this class my first quarter (not recommended) and still did pretty good. don't read the textbook, just focus on the lecture slides. lecture and material were really interesting but the tests really sucked. he aims for a low average so many questions are complicated and tricky. discussion participation is mandatory, and iclicker is graded.
Dr. Kopp found a way to make every lecture very engaging through using his evolutionary biology background. Through explaining the evolutionary significance of why certain aspects of cell biology developed the way it did, I was genuinely excited to go to every lecture. Discussions are very chill but exams are on the harder side.
Overall, an okay professor. Not very helpful in office hours, explains everything in a highly complex way. All the tests are based off of lectures, not the textbook. Highly recommend going to the head TA's lecture reviews and pre-exam review sessions.
Kopp definitely cares a lot about both biology and teaching. His lectures are required because of graded iclicker questions, but they're really engaging and most exam questions will be based on them rather than the textbook. Exams are difficult and not curved, but grades are heavily supported by other categories. Getting a good ta matters a lot.
Professor Kopp was a goldmine for me in BIS2A. He's by far the best of all the BIS2A professors. He gave detailed lectures and presented the material in a simplified, understandable manner. Read the textbook to stay on track!!!! If you want to get an A, read the textbook, go to evening lecture review, use your TAs, and find a GOOD STUDY GROUP!
He is very passionate but challenging for no reason. He makes it clear that he expects 65% avgs. I would say to take the other professor teaching if you're worried abt your gpa. What really helped me were the TA review sessions and doing the readings.
To do well, review lectures, Achieve summative quizzes and maybe read the textbook. His lectures were interesting, class had 2 midterms and one final. multiple achieve summative quizzes were due each week. He makes the material interesting and I could understand how everything we learned through the quarter came together at the end. Tests were hard
Great professor with, a clear and understandable lecture. A lot of textbook readings and discussion manuals are due every week. Study with lecture slides and textbook readings would guarantee decent grade.
Kopp is a great professor. He is clearly passionate about what he teaches. His lectures are very interesting and his midterms are based heavily on his lecture material. Also study the summative quizzes as they are reflected on the midterm/finals. He is hilarious and approachable. One down side: he aims for a 60-65 average on his midterms w/o curve.
If you suck at bio, don't take this professor. The exams were actually painful, and he aims for the class average to be a D.
I think he was a really good professor, his lectures were interesting and fairly easy to understand and he was kinda funny which made it easier to go to lecture every day. The exams were multiple choice and had some difficult questions but overall doable. The textbook wasn't that helpful for me and you don't need to read everything to do well tbh.
Kopp is a challenging but engaging professor. His lectures are worth attending to understand the material. Doing the readings, using Unstuckstudy, and joining study groups are key to doing well in this course.
I took Bis 2A with professor Kopp my first quarter of my first year, I had no previous chemistry knowledge other than what was provided in highschool but even then I couldn't remember a single thing from my chemistry class. However, professor Kopp made the content easy to understand and his lectures were very engaging and very easy to understand.
