Wonderful! He's available for any assistance, explains the assignments thoroughly and encourages you to do well and improve your writing in a positive manner.
Arun John was definitely one of the best teachers I've ever had. He was funny and encouraging and I actually wanted to go to class. The class is challenging but I was glad that he expected a lot from community college students. I actually wanted to attend his class every week.
Face it-ACC's English department requires you to write 4 papers and take an exam...so take his class. He is engaging, funny, and has reasonable expectations of his students. He is a little disorganized, but don't consider it a flaw. Students and professors both feel disorganized in a once a week class. I know I will take him for 1302 in the fall.
He is an amazing teacher. Always available to help if you have questions. He's a great communicator on blackboard. You always know what is expected of you. I loved going to his class. Very engaging discussions, if you do the readings. Highly recommended
I hate English. But I really enjoyed his class. He is very helpful. Taking him in summer for ENGL 2
I came into this class dreading english but it turned out to be one of the better classes I have taken
Other than him being a good teacher. He is very strict on having to deal with our papers. If you want challenge he is the one to take.
read your stories, turn in your papers on time you will do well. attending class regularly helps, he does do quizes that help your grade. nice and passionate about the readings. take all the advice he gives you, it is useful
Anyone who says his class is hard didn't realize that BOTH english comps have to be completed before this class. He is so helpful and you should be able to keep up with him after taking both comp 1 and 2. one of my favorite teachers ever.
I'm only half way through the course but professor John is awesome super nice guy all you have to is attend class and participate
Professor John is Amazing! He is very clear on what is expected and will do what he can to help you understand. I took his 6 week online class and it was very challenging, but he made it fun and very educational. I did not know I could learn so much in 6 weeks. He is kind to a fault. You will not regret taking him, but be ready to work for your A!
Professor John is great! He is very clear on his instructions and is always available if you need help. Reading all the stories is mandatory. I took his 6-week online class and managed to walk out with an A. This class has its challenging moments but it's not impossible. TAKE HIS CLASS IF YOU CAN!!! You won't regret it!
Fantastic prof. Did 6 week DL. A lot of work because of the short class, but he was very helpful. Very, very quick in e-mail responses and returning grades. Always available to call/visit during office hours. 4 papers, dept exam, A/B papers, just like ALL engl classes at ACC. Guided our discussion board in the right direction when needed. Take him!
Professor john is fair, but firm. Expect to write a lot. If you complete all your assingments and have them turned in and accepted on time, you will be successful.
He made my very first college class enjoyable, yet challenging.
Read the assigned stories because quizzes are given from them! Arun cares about this class and his students. He is a very nice guy but teaches in a way to challenge your thinking patterns and push yourself. He is a great teacher!
Very opinionated. Then again he is an English Prof. Lots of work in this class. Discussion board posts 3 times a week and 5 (I think) papers. If you like to write then this class will flex the right muscles for you but otherwise look elsewhere.
Love this class. The readings are interesting and I really enjoy the classroom discussion. Prof is engaging, and encouraging. He makes himself available to everyone for help outside the classroom, and works on every level. Very patient too. Nicest guy ever.
He is a very nice guy, he makes the class interesting however he is pretty firm. He expects you to do your work and cuts you no slack. The class itself is not all that easy. Make sure you take it seriously.
This is the first online class I have taken where the professor actually cares. Professor john works endlessly to help his studemts and he honestly cares what you take from the course. He is am exceptional professor and is very fair and flexible, would take the course again if I could :)
Mr. John's lectures are very interactive and lots of fun. I thought I'd hate this class, but I've really enjoyed it. He exceeded all my expectations. The papers aren't easy, but you can rewrite most of them for a higher grade. Mr. John chooses very interesting stories, often from recent literary journals rather than the textbook.
He is confusing as he will post and say one thing, but then on the test expect a different answer. Very strict on analysis and does not leave much to open interpretation. Easy grading style. does not help develop analysis skills. Just says what you did wrong no suggestions to improve analysis.
Professor John used blackboard and made sure to constantly update the class. His instructions were always clear, and he replied back to emails promptly. As long as you follow his instructions and do the readings, you should do well.
Mr. John has by far been my favorite teacher at ACC just because he's so passionate about the subject and he REALLY does everything he can to help you understand the material. His essays push you to think and he makes you so much of a better writer by the end of the semester. It's not easy but it's a good challenge. I'm taking him again in the fall
Prof. John was extremely helpful throughout the semester, but if you're a slacker and don't go to class you most likely won't pass. He's a tough grader on the papers, but very fair and more than willing to help you improve. He's a really nice teacher and you can tell he truly loves what he does.
Mr. John gives good lectures and genuinely wants you to grasp the concepts of the reading material. He grades participation and there are pop quizzes about reading so show up and put in effort! The papers are easy to write when you take good notes in class. A group project requires meeting with classmates outside of lecture and moderate research.
Professor John is a very insightful teacher. He will make you a better writer, if you do your work. You have to get a text book for his assigned readings, he usually has a quiz over it the next day.
Wonderful teacher! Great lectures that make you think. A lot of reading with quizzes but they're easy (just making sure you read the material). Tough-ish midterm. Plenty of writing and 1 group project. Even on a paper with a 98 he gave insightful feedback which caused me to think and learn, whereas some profs get lazy when you get an A+.
Professor John has made me a better writer. He gives incredible feedback even though I take his class online, he is very clear and concise about what needs to be done, and he gives enough time between each assignment. I would definitely look out for his name if you are given a choice on which teacher to take.
I will open with saying that English is my passion and lifeblood. That being sad, there were students in my class that seemed to struggle but genuinely enjoyed the stimulating conversations we had. Fiction readers are generally more empathetic--you'll learn why if you take this class. Phenomenal professor, wish I could take another class with him
Prof. John provides an organized schedule of assignments and deadlines, timely and helpful feedback, and is generous with extra credit and make up opportunities. Do not procrastinate, think deeply about the material, and submit your honest thoughts while also following the detailed guidelines that he provides for each assignment. Enjoy the class :)
will keep busy
Arun John is a great professor, and I highly recommend his classes! He gives great feedback on papers, as well as plenty of time to correct them. He is very organized, helpful with his many notes, and involved with his classes. He also replies to email in a timely manner, so it is easy to get your questions answered.
Professor John is an amazing individual! He's the pride of the English department at ACC in my opinion. I know for a fact that others feel the same way too. Consider yourself lucky if you get to take him. I was initially scared of English 2 and this was by far the best college class I have ever taken. Do yourself a favor and take him. Trust me!
Professor John is one of the best English professor at ACC. Show up to class, read the assignments, revise your papers and you will get an A. He rewards those who put in the time and effort into his class.
I'm no writer, but I was able to pull an A in this class. I took the six week summer session, and it was a little packed, but not too bad. Dr. John was available by phone and by email whenever I needed help on papers. He's a very good professor. The focus of the class is short stories, so the reading wasn't bad.
If you take the time to reach out, Professor John is accessible and his feedback is helpful and clear. If you show that you are invested in the class and your grade, Prof. John will give you all the help you need. The online class is extremely well-organized and easy to follow. I'd take another class with Prof. John again.
Professor Arun John is a great professor. He is very respectful to all students and has a clear grading criteria. There are four essay's for this class. He gives every students the chance to rewrite ALL four essay's for up to an A. Make sure to use definitions from the book in your essay. He will give more points for that!
Professor John is very involved in his class, he is always available if you have questions. He gives detailed & timely feedback about your writing, and lots of opportunities to improve grades if you put work into it and participation. He gives clear lectures in videos and discussion board wrap ups. You will enjoy this class and learn a lot.
He is a good professor. His lectures are good. Very helpfull and caring but you need to work really hard in the papers and read very much.
TOUGH GRADER!!!
I honestly wasn't expecting this level of engagement from a distance learning class. Professor John makes sure you know the material, and he's amazingly quick at answering questions. He also offered lots of extra credit options :D Because of him, I enjoyed English 2 way more than English 1. Take his class if you can -- it's worth it.
Syllabus and assignment directions very clear, there's no confusion on due dates or grading criteria. He is a high quality teacher who gives honest and helpful feedback and answers any questions. The points are spread out so there's no reason not to pass this class. His class was honestly one of the MOST enjoyable for me so far! Don't pass him up!!
Professor John is One of the BEST professors at ACC. He allows you to rewrite your papers until you reach your last one. His lectures and discussion boards REALLY prepare you for the exit departmental exam. He is ALWAYS accessible to students. CLEAR grading criteria for EACH paper (read carefully). The only reason to fail is not TRY. Take him!!!!!
Be prepared to dedicate a lot of time and critical thinking to the assignments. While this is the case, the professor is very flexible, can be contacted easily, gives helpful feedback and is very descriptive. One of my favorite things about this online class were the video lectures that the professor posted.
He's a good teacher, but likes to treat his students like kids regarding attendance. If you don't do the reading, you will be lost, & he luvs to do pop quizzes on the material he assigned. 4 total papers due + the departmental exam. Get help early if you feel lost. He does make himself available during office hrs and by appt. Be prepared to work!
He requires a lot of dedication from you like tons of reading assignments and they matter because they have random quizzes! Also requires you to read an article as you will also be randomly asked about it and graded on what you say. Aside from all the work he is helpful and really tries his best to guide you and actually teach you something
I took professor Johns distance learning english 1302 class this summer and he is the best professor i have ever had! He is always available. I emailed him multiple times and the longest he took to reply was an hour. I called him many times to go over my paper (that he lets you redo all but the last) and he was very helpful. Highly recommend!!
This professor is extremely well worth it. Yes, you do have to work for the grade, but welcome to college. This is one of the few ACC professors that actually challenges you the way a professor at a 4 year university will. Professor John gives you the opportunity to revise most of the papers up to 100%. Take his class, don't slack off, and LEARN!
I took Professor John for a 5.5 week Summer semester online and really enjoyed the course. He gives really specific and great feedback on papers and grades extremely fairly. Also, he gives EC and revision opportunities throughout. You can tell he really cares that you become a better writer individually. I would definitely take again!
I took AP English and had an A all year, but in Prof Johns class I barely had a C. This ACC class was horrible. He grades so hard and barely gives out A's.
I had to drop the class bc he was too much to me.
Professor John is AMAZING! I took his 8 week online class and learned so much! He lets you revise 4/5 papers for a higher grade after your fist attempt and lets you know exactly what to correct! TAKE THIS PROFESSOR wish all of the professors at ACC were as involved as he is! He really wants his students to succeed. I put in the effort and got an A
You do have to put in work for this class, but I personally loved this professor. I feel that I learned a lot and he is approachable.
Professor John is an excellent teacher at ACC! He's a tough grader on the papers, and he holds his students to a higher standard. If you truely appreciate the subject and care about bettering your writing skills, then Prof. John is a good pick. If you just want to receive an easy A and get by, I would recommend looking for a different teacher.
Professor John is one of the best english teachers I've had! He does a great job of helping you understand the stories instead of assuming you know what they are about. Make sure you read every story assigned because there are quizzes over the stories. There is also a lot of class and small group discussion which really helped me!
Took his online course. He is very available to answer questions and guide you in the right direction. He gives great feedback. The class is a lot of writing and if you dont nail it on the first try, you can rewrite all but the final paper. It is very important to participate in the blog discussion.
Be ready to practice critical thinking. He is not an easy grader and if you want to just sit in class without thinking and contributing to discussion, it will reflect on your participation grade. This class is meant to teach, so be ready to learn and enjoy some new perspectives, otherwise take another class. Learn literature, it's important!
Professor John wants the student to take away analytical concepts from a broader perspective using this Literature course. His discussions are brilliant and can really captivate the students. Be ready to write, he does expect a higher level of competency in his papers.
Very challenging class. English has always been my strongest subject, but I had to seriously work for the grade I wanted. Professor John makes you think deeply, critically, and carefully about the stories assigned. Don't expect A's first try on your essays. Apply genuine effort toward improvement on the revision essay and then you can.
Professor John is an excellent teacher. He cares about his students and provides great feedback on your papers. But don't expect to skate by in this class. It requires a lot of reading and writing. Put in the effort and you should do very well. Get behind in the reading, and you won't make it.
Do yourself a favor and take it in class. The extra credit saved me, but this professor grades hard and does not provide you with much help to succeed. It is so hard to analyze the essays, and his response for questions is not through even whatsoever. I have no clue how I succeeded in this class.
Professor John is a gem. He is the most organized online professor i've ever had. He provided extremely helpful links and commentary on the reading assignments. He knew just how to get you to understand the stories and analyze them without handing you the answers. He always picked up the phone when I called and was able to help me. He truly cares.
Professor John teaches and prepares you for higher levels of learning. He is very reasonable in his grading and emphasizes each literary concept to develop your composition skills. He provides great feedback and often times allows you to have an opportunity to correct your mistakes for full credit in a second draft. Overall great human being!
do yourself a favor and choose another professor. hes a tough grader, his feedback doesnt help, and expects you to think and analyze stories the same way he does. Beware of pop quizes. Attendance is mandatory. and prepare urself to read.
Professor John is chill and gives good instruction. He provides the resources and help needed to write the papers that are required for the course. He also does quizzes, so be prepared to read. His class is designed to prepare you for a four year college and has helped me be successful in my first semester at Texas State.
As an engineering major, I was DREADING having to take another writing course. It had been over 5 years since I had taken ENGL1301 and I was convinced I was a bad writer. Professor John easily helped me improve as a writer. He's an excellent, humorous lecturer and wants you to succeed. I'm currently taking his World Lit. course and loving it!
Professor Arun is amazing! I have had a huge break from school so I was very nervous taking English comp 2 as a starting class. Professor gives great feedback, communicates with his students weekly (if not more). I feel much more confident about my writing now. Some of the readings are tricky but theres always fun in a challenge. Take this class!
Took world Lit and thought I was gonna hate it but it was a great class! He makes the reading and lectures interesting and really gets students thinking. Theres ALOT of reading and writing but hes not too tough a grader, some pop quizzes anda ggroup project with 4 essays and 2 mid terms. So a lot of work but a great class
WORST PROF EVER
I took English Comp II with professor John and I recommend him. His way of teaching makes you put in all your effort and think critically. This is a good way to actually improve your writing and reading skills. Thanks to his methodology, I learned to appreciate an english course. He's the kind of professor that will help you to actually learn.
So annoying with grading literally looks for any little things to cut points off. Its 1302 an intro course not a graduate literature course like seriously lay off. Worst english professor to take for an intro course
I took professor John's online class and it was great! He had very specific grading criteria, offered great feedback and there were opportunities for extra credit. Additionally, he was accessible outside of class and his blackboard page is extremely organized. The class wasn't that hard, if you put in the effort you';; be in good shape.
I took this professor for a Summer 5.5 week distance learning course. The work load was very reasonable, and he gives good feedback on every paper. He's quick to respond to e-mails and is good about answering phone calls. I would definitely recommend this guy for someone who likes to work hard and to put in the effort.
Professor John is an outstanding professor who cares about his students being successful in this course. He is very accessible to contact if you have any questions, and allows rewrites for majority of the papers. This course is not a blowoff class, as it will feel tedious. However, an A is very achievable if you are willing to put the work in.
Professor Arun taught me a lot. I took his 6 week online course . My best advice is to read the syllabus, read the stories, do your homework and you will pass. He gives many opportunities for extra credit as well. He is also easy to get in contact with and he responds pretty fast! Best English teacher ever!
I signed up for another class with him. He is incredibly patient, a lot of kids in the class were struggling and he really gave them a lot of grace. It was my first college class in a few years and he really helped me get back into the groove of writing and analysis. The stories and poems are interesting, class is never boring, just put in the work
worst professor ever im just writing this comment to save other students from this evil creature. hes a super tough grader and expects to see the analysis that he wants without considering of others opinions. if you dont care about ur GPA take him
Professor John is one of those life-changing professors who is truly unforgettable. Do not expect to be given a grade, he will make you work for it only because he wants you to be able to communicate effectively in the professional world. Course material of the pilot curriculum was incredibly engaging and related to real world experience.
An amazing class with an amazing professor. Definitely the best English professor at ACC. His class is tough, but he never holds back in lectures; you can tell that he not only cares about the material that he teaches, but he also cares about your success. But you have to put in the effort. If you don't slouch you'll pass and learn a great deal.
Like others have said, Professor John, is pretty chill. Although you do have to do your work. Put in effort and you will most likely get the grade you wanted. I took advantage of revising my papers to get as many points as possible to help get me an "A". The selected readings are cool. You will have so many available resources, use them!
Arun goes above & beyond for his students. He encourages the class to participate & think outside of the box. Arun builds the class up, he gives people confidence to speak up about their thoughts. He's motivating, always there for his students at any time, he genuinely cares. Topics in the class cover poems, a play, short stories, a book & movie.
One of the best professors you can take. Truly cares about his students. A lot of reading & writing, but the material is very interesting, and if you like literature, it won't seem like much. The class is very philosophy-based & you will gain a lot of critical thinking for how you see the world. Take this class if you can.
Professor John is one of the best teachers I have ever had. I took his Comp ll class during the fall semester, 2019. This was my first class back after taking a couple of years off, and it was an excellent decision because he made me feel so inspired and empowered. His class was very challenging, but in an extremely fulfilling kind of way.
Professor John has been one of my favorite professors I've ever taken. I was a dual credit student at ACC and he helped me revise my college essays. He cares about his students and his material. He's not too tough, as long as you go to class and do the work, you're sure to do well. Highly recommend.
prof John is a good and dedicated professor. But he gives a lot of homework. Expect a lot of writing and analyzing and discussing.
I absolutely loved his Humanities class and him in general. He was so funny and you could tell he really loved what he teaches. Interesting assignments, easy A. Would definitely take him again.
Tough professor to deal with. I have received A's for all writing classes except for this one. Beware of his student self-assessment. If you fail on the first try, the final grade will be a C even if you pass it the second time. Fail it the second time? You'll get a D only. Don't do it? You get an F as the final grade.
Class was difficult but Prof John is a great instructor. He's very clear on your objectives and what is required. There is a LOT of work for each module but its doable if you schedule the time. His lectures are clear and there is lots of reading and lots of papers to write. (It's a comp class people!) He cares and will help you if you ask for help.
He is a very amazing professor, lectures are very interesting, gives very good feedback on all of the papers. There's many things you have to do in this course, but the thing is that you will get better each time all thanks to the feedback he gives you. It is all on the student if they go to class &' pay attention. He cares about his students a lot
I took his Comp II class online and it was the only class that I did not completely dread. It's not so hard that you're guaranteed to fail but don't expect to get an easy A without effort. I genuinely enjoyed this class and felt that I also improved as a writer as a result of this class.
He really cares about his students and making sure that you are learning. I hate essays and had to do 3 of them, which by the 2nd one I had no more writing in me. He had readings each week and they were great but just make sure to have good probing questions for them and read. The first 3 essays he gives you a chance to correct them.
Prof John was is a great teacher. He really helped me learn a lot. He gives great feedback on all papers and tells you things to improve on to help your grade. This class is basically all reading and interpreting, be ready to read a lot!You have like 4 major essays all about 800 words each and they are pretty difficult. Challenging class but good.
This was more than just a literature class. If you love history you would enjoy it. Prof. John can be a tough grader and is not very clear on what you did wrong. Will say you did great in his audio feedback then give you a C in your rubric. Wouldn't recommend if you're trying to have a high GPA.
Professor Arun gives pretty good feedback, although sometimes I'm not entirely sure what I was counted off on. The class is challenging, but helps you build and strengthen your analyzing skills. I'm not usually interested in literature classes, but this class piqued my interest several times throughout the semester. I enjoyed this class!
I loved Professor John's ENGL 1302! He is super cool and cares about whether or not you pass, but he is going to make you do your work. Class participation is really important to him. You get to revise your first two papers and then meet with him before submitting the third. It is a great challenging class that you will pass if you apply yourself.
Prof. John is very informative in his lectures and provides many tools to promote success in his class. His lectures are short but cover all of the material needed to write the papers you need. His grading style focuses on you reviewing a paper you have submitted and redoing or improving it for a higher grade. Doing that will make your life easier.
Prof. John's genuine enthusiasm and passion for literature is contagious even through an asynchronous online course. I wish I could take more classes with him, he's very understanding and kind, gives thoughtful feedback, and truly cares about your success which can be a challenge to convey via online courses. A wonderful man, highly recommend.
Overall I enjoyed Professor John's class. Yes, he's tough, but I've learned a lot of things in this class and have become a better writer. There is a lot of writing, and he warns you upfront that if you want to do well, you'll spend about 25 hours a week on this class. That part was accurate. If you communicate with him often, you'll do better.
Tough grader, but does so with clarity and care. Revisions are accepted on the essays. I loved all of the short stories we read, too. I definitely improved as a writer by taking this course, which is important for any student who actually wants to learn, and not just take a class for credit. Professor John cares about his students.
I was privileged to be in Professor John's ENGL1302 distance learning class. He gave excellent feedback, resulting in a monumental development in my craft. He genuinely cares about his students and has many office hours that students can utilize. He is one of a kind!
I had professor john for comp II and i had a wonderful experience. He is really smart and gave great lectures. He made reading/writing very fun. It was a really immersive class! Everyone got to be included.
I took this class for Comp II; it was incredibly immersive. Everyone was included and got to share their thoughts during his lectures, which made it very fun! As long as you follow the rubric, you should make a good grade in this class!
Professor John is amazing. I loved the essay prompts and the way he teaches lectures letting everyone be involved and being energetic. He made reading and writing creative and a great learning experience. His feedback on essays and journal responses are detailed which helps you improve as a student.
I had Professor John this semester, and it was by far my favorite class; he makes it enjoyable and engaging. If you follow the rubric and put in real effort, you will do well in this class. He is very understanding and is there to help when needed. This class boosted my confidence and writing skills immensely. I highly recommend taking this class!
The grading was unclear in many of the instructions, and when I brought it up the response was highly rude and negative. It seems this professor is super sensitive to any thing they don't agree with in their BB structure. excessive amount of writing too, practically 6 pages a week. not worth it, take an 8 week creative writing class versus this.
Professor John was really cool and I loved the class discussions he led at the start of the semester. For the two essays he gives you really good constructive criticism to improve as a writer. I really enjoyed the end of the year project and peer class discussion. 10/10 professor in my books !
