Very helpful and funny. Explains things well especially during office hours. Doesn't give too much homework. Even when you are totally confused on a quiz, you still manage to do pretty well because of the magnificient guy who grades them.
Awesome class, made me actually like math again. Covers everything in class. As long as you do the homework you'll get an A. The grader is the MAN. Uses really funny examples and actually shows interest in students.
real nice guy, i sleep through most of my classes independent of how the teacher is, but he's pretty good and spits out a few funny lines here and there....The grader is ridiculously easy
He's so cute! You have to get used to his accent but he tries to be funny and it cracks me up. He's so nice and he's such an easy grader... you don't even have to listen to him... you can get away with teaching yourself with the book... that's what I did!
This is the best damn class I have ever taken! He makes it so much fun and he is one of the funniest professors I have ever had. I likes what he does, he cares about the students, and he really makes the class fun to be in. TAKE THIS CLASS!!!
He tries to hard to be funny. He makes the stupidest jokes that make you want to scream and run out of class. Lectures are easily slept through.
He's kinda boring but if u do all the assignments it's not that bad. His test are manageable if u studied and did all the hw. The only thing that sucked was the 8 am classes!
He's a really cool guy with a peculiar sense of humor, but Professor Moorthy really tries to teach us something. He understood that at eight in the morning many people were not even awake yet, but still tried to make class entertaining. Take this class.

Really funny lectures, explains really well. His jokes and accent alone make the lectures worthwhile. Has the ability to actually make a math class fun. If you ever see a class he's teaching, take it.
BEST PROFESSOR EVER! I absolutely love this man. He taught lecture and discussion which was extremely helpful. Always available at office hours. He was funny and made me look forward to going to math class! We all loved him!!
Professor Moorthy is the MAN! He makes awesome jokes, and has very effective lectures. He's an easy grader, and very fair. If you're going to take calc, get Moorthy!!

This guy has absolutely no idea how to teach, if you ask a question hell indirectly answer it or try to confuse you. He doesn't go over anything unless you hold his hand the whole time. I actually had to ask to be taught for the first time years. Avoid.
Moorthy is a good guy to talk to and tells amusing stories. However, the notes given out to the class often make no sense and are completely random. You will spend ample amounts of time in his office begging for his help, which he is happy to give. HW5 was so long and tedious. You must love stats.

Moorthy is a nice guy but has no idea how to teach intermediate stats method. Basically, you have to teach yourself so be prepared. The notes the department provide don't really help either. :(

I have always loved math, but this class is close to ruining that. Totally unorganized, quizzes every week that change in format, homework AND assignments, inconsistency everywhere. Moorthy is a nice guy, just can't teach...Bottom line: DON'T TAKE THIS CLASS, IT EATS YOUR SOUL.
he teaches a big class, so that might hinder a few. but he's a good teacher, he explains concepts and methods pretty well. he honestly wants to try and help you get a good grade
Moorthy is a nice man; he really wants his students to do well. I thought his lectures were clear and he was easy to understand. His tests are straight from the HW problems. Sure, there may be a few tricky questions, but what math test doesnt? Just make sure u ask questions and do lots of problems.
I really thought I failed the final, but I somehow got an a. he really wants you to do well. I found individual practice to be the key to doing well in the class. The homeworks, although annoying, did help me in the class (not so much the professor).
He is without a doubt the worst professor I have come across at BU thus far! He is extremely unclear and unhelpful. He doesn't teach the material well, he doesn't make up tests which accurately test your knowledge and understanding of the material, and he administers the tests very poorly.
Thought he's nice according to the rating. He's not bad....just sometimes his jokes werent that funny. Thought I was doing good in the class until the final...it killed...i'm sure not everyone did good on the final. The first 2 exams were basically on HW...so make sure do your HW on a timely manner. By the way, HW took up all of my time.
THE WORST CLASS YOU WILL EVER TAKE AT THIS UNIVERSITY!!! Professor Moorthy and TF Pradipta Seal really put Boston University to shame. This class will make you suffer all semester long. Do not take this class unless you are prepared to A) spend four months in agony over how Moorthy and the TF treat you AND/OR B) have your GPA completely ruined!
8am class--as if that weren't enough, the lectures are the driest math lectures i have ever endured. moorthy not very available since his only office hour is usually at noon when everyone has class. tests hard, but curved. thankfully i'm not moving on in math because i didn't really understand any of it, i just rehashed everything for the tests.
I decided to take Moorthy because i read all these "fabulous" ratings about him on what a great professor he is but honestly, i was let down & deceived by my fellow colleagues. I'm not saying Moorthy is terrible, but you REALLY need to have taken Calc to pass this class. I did, thankfully, but you may not be as lucky since i even had many struggles
This class tanked my GPA, and i really tried hard. He is a nice guy, but the final was really unfair and didnt allow me to show him how much i studied for it. If you are a mathwiz you like his class, otherwise make sure you keep up and get yourself a tutor.
This class single-handedly destroyed my scholarship. There was no feedback - he didn't hand back homework or exams until it was too late. He didn't let us use calculators, and neither he or the TF could speak English. I would NOT recommend this course to anyone who actually needs to learn Calc 2
He is possibly one of the worse teachers i've had, simply because u cant understand him. he doesnt explain well and his accent confuses us all. i hae taken the equivalent of this class before, and i still did not do well on his test.
I never thought going to a class would hinder your understanding of the material, but this class definitely proved me wrong. his teaching methods make no sense and actually confuse you more. On the upside, if you can read and understand the material from the book, going to class is completely pointless, so skipping is no big deal.
This class was much tougher than I thought it would be, but as long as you can pay attention in class you should be ok. Moorthy puts a pretty big curve on all the tests, but it still seems like some people don't do very well.
He is a really nice guy and will always help out his students he just gets kind of confused during lectures! Just read the chapter ahead of time and go to office hours if you are confused and you will be fine!
His accent is hard to understand, he doesn't explain new concepts very well, and he regularly goes off on tangents. You get your homework back after you take a quiz on it, so if you screw up the homework, you screw up the quiz too. If you are not a "math person" and don't want to shell out $$$ on a tutor every week, do not take Stats with this man.
This is a horrible teacher. It seems as if even he doesn't understand the material and constantly gets confused. Not only is he bad explaining the material, he's bad explaining everything else. You might want to go to office hours but they do nothing and are not helpful at all. I recommend, if you don't need to take this class, don't.
Not the best teacher. Hard to hear what he says and when you can hear it you can't always understand him. He is a nice guy though and wears cool sweaters.
Moorthy is awful. He comes to class late, messes around and lets us out early, wasting my time and money. He doesn't answer his emails, doesn't help explain anything in class, sometimes doesn't even come to his office hours! DO NOT take this class unless you want to figure EVERYTHING out on your own. You also can't understand his accent.
Moorthy is hands down the worst professor at Boston University. Not only does he deviate from the other stats classes (which let you use your book during tests and both give and grade tests fairly) but his teaching abilities are non-existent, poorly organized, frustrating, and unfair. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS WITH HIM IF YOU WANT TO DO WELL.
Concept of stats is easy. He teaches it well and isnt hard to understand if you pay attention and take notes. Disussions are helpful and reinforce what we learned in class except its VERY hard to understand the TFs. Accent is so strong that you have to pay attention very carefully. Grading isnt too bad though
moorthy is the worst educator ever. he barely speaks english, let alone is able to explain and comprehend the concepts. at the beginning the class will seem funny, but you will soon find that it is only to your loss. he is not helpful, organized, or knowlegable. the TF's dont even attend the lecture let alone hlep you. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!!!!!!!
this guy sux. usually im good at math but i dont understand a single word hez trying to say. he has no clarity...he goes off topic and he makes easy things confusing. something as easy as mean..he cant explain. hez not organized, he comes to skool late, and the grading is a bit unfair.
He has the worst accent ever. Sitting up front helped a little but it was mostly hopeless from the get-go. There is no structure to his lectures and he doesn't get to know students at all! Tests were hard but he gives you formula sheets and there is a slight curve. Don't take this class if you're GPA is already in jeopardy.
Ugh! This class is horrible! I am convinced he hasn't a clue about what he is talking about. The quizzes and homeworks aren't too bad the the tests SUCK! Furthermore, there's just a bit of a language barrier sometimes....he may be good at stats, but he def. can't teach them! DON'T TAKE THIS CLASS! It killed my GPA!
This man is an absolute disgrace to the insitution. Professor Moorthy is without a doubt in my mind the most incompetent and pathetic professor that I have ever encountered at Boston University. This man should be removed from the university ASAP!!! Never take a single class with Professor Moorthy!!!
Moorthy teaches by going over problems. He does have quite a thick accent, but if you can get by that he's not that bad. If you're good at following by example then he's very good, otherwise he probably won't be that helpful.
this professor is terrible. he has no ability whatsoever to explain anything statistics related. you will have to learn everything yourself. and the tests were impossible to finish in the 50 minutes allowed. do not take any class with this professor ever! you will regret it.
Dr. Maroothy is the most unreasonable professors I have ever had. The material is not hard, however, he does not understand that a 50 minute test should only take 50 minutes. Very few kids finish, and only stats majors do really well (which the teacher has no major affect on). Maroothy should not be allowed to teach at BU. DO NOT TAKE HIS CLASS!!!!
Professor Moorthy is a miserable professor. He is a disgrace to the institution. Do not take any classes with Professor Moorthy if you value your sanity or your gpa!!!
Worst math class taken so far at BU by far. Professor is terrible at explaining concepts and doesn't come prepared for class. Tests are impossible to finish in the given time period, often contain typos, and are unfairly graded. Homework is not relevant to course material. A little bit more helpful in office hours, but a terrible experience.
I found the class easy, others didn't. He has a thick accent which just adds to his lack of clarity in explaining some topics. Definitely go to discussion and read the book. The problems for HW will help you. And you get to make your own formula sheet.
Moorthy is no good especially at 8 am three times a week. Must go to lectures to do well in class because he tries to penalize kids who don't come to class by putting example from classes on tests. Not very good at explaining any type of mathematical concepts. Example based teacher. STAY AWAY FROM MOORTHY!

So I got an A in MA 213 with another teacher so I figured I should take MA 214, no problem ... BIG MISTAKE. I understand everything but the way he words his questions suck. I wish I had withdrawn from the class before I could get a W. I hope I can pull off a B- with some miracles and not kill my GPA.
He's not too bad but hes really unorganized. Teaches by example and doesnt even bother explaining where anything comes from. He just gives examples all of class. He seems to know what he is doing he just doesn't know how to teach it effectively and really sucks at answering questions. Really long exams that are way harder than the quizzes.
He did his best with attempts at humor, as well as teaching a course that not many are interested in. His explanations were clear, however the tests were difficult. Go to his office hours and ask questions, take good notes, and you will be fine. He is a sweet man, but he can be slightly awkward
i can't believe Boston University even hired such a bad teacher. Not only does this class bring down your grade (whether you come to all of the classes or not because he has absolutely no skills as a teacher) but he is probably one of the worst human beings i have ever met in my life. Horrible, horrible teacher. I really hate this guy. Went to his office hours and basically told me to leave because he had more important things to do... Such a bad teacher another one of those teachers at Boston U that just love themselves and not much else. Takes attendence in lecture with over a 100 kids to catch the kids sleeping at 8 AM.

ummm def the worst class ever i almost failed because he is such a horrible tteacher....i went to his office hours and it was a waste.He is unaware of grades and is completely unorganized.Unless you want your GPA to drop dramatically you will not take this class.Sooo annoying and you cant understand a word the man says and his TF is unhelpful aswel
did his best to explain the concepts. didn't exactly hold interest, but he's not as bad as the previous comments say. read the book carefully and you'll do fine on the exams. homework and discussion quizzes will only help to boost your grades.
I'm pretty bad at Stats, it's basically from the book in this class. He doesn't grade anything so if you have a dispute no point taking it up with him. Graders tend to be really anal too. Wasn't really helpful in office hours and tries to be a hardass but eventually folds about late hw and makeup exams. hope for a good TA
i'm not very good at math...but this class was very easy. straight from the book and class. MAKE SURE you go to class though because he likes to test specific things he says in class. also, while he doesn't do attendance every day, he does do it like twice during the semester so if you miss it, you're screwed.

Worst class I have ever taken in my life. I had to take it for my major and was stressed the entire semester. He can't explain any of the topics, frequently loses his notes, and repeats lectures. I was glued to the book the entire semester and I passed the homework by vid chatting with a friend and comparing answers. DO. NOT. TAKE. THIS. CLASS.
This class will ruin your GPA. It does not matter if you know the material or not. It's ridiculous. He does not explain concepts well at all. Unfortunately he is the only teacher for MA116 at this time and it is a required class for CAS students.
The worst math professor I've had my whole life. He doesn't answer emails, doesn't show up for office hours, asks things on the exam he has never taught, and is rude when you ask a question. Advisers were telling students to not take MA116 until a new professor came because he's THAT bad!! He'll find a way to take off points no matter what!
DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS!!!! He lost 2 of my homeworks and than wanted to just put them in as zeros. During a timed final with 8 pages of math computation to do, he went around interupting people and asking for ID's. He has no knowledge of how to teach and interact with students. He is rude and does not realize that WE PAY HIS SALARY!!!
Posting just to say, if you're avoiding taking 116 because of Moorthy, then don't listen to the reviews. He teachers by example, which is extremely helpful, and his curving was very, very normal. He' funny and nice; he let me turn in my homework late, even though syllabus says otherwise.
Awful. He is disorganized and dodges questions instead of answering them. He has a very thick accent and is hard to understand. The text he uses is dry and complicated; it's a biostat textbook even though a lot of lib. arts majors have to take it. I had a 5 on AP Stat test but dropped this to preserve my GPA. DO NOT TAKE THIS CLASS.
Explains concepts very well. I never had to read the textbook. Slightly awkward and strict at times, but as long as you don't take advantage of him when he's lenient, you'll appreciate him and his teaching.
Moorthy teaches by example, which is very helpful. I never read the textbook - his class notes are excellent. Tests aren't too hard either.
Moorthy is an abomination. Absolutely awful. Purposely tries to make tests overly difficult and likes to include abstract material that was never covered in class. Horrible, horrible class. It's disgusting than our tuition goes toward paying this man. BEWARE MOORTHY!
Moorthys NOT that bad. First exam- 1/4 of the class got 90+. A lot of students don't ask for help until the discussion before the test. This is stats- it's math (barely) the topics build on each other so you have to keep up. He always answers qs, emails, and holds extra office hrs before the test. If you do what you're supposed to, you'll do fine.
Moorthy means well with his teaching, but he does not work in a coherent manner. His exams were extremely hard considering what he said was going to be on it. He also has this annoying habit to keep saying, "are you following this?" He knows his stuff, but does not convey it well to others.
If you can avoid this class, do. Moorthy is very difficult to understand and really did not teach me anything. Thank goodness I had a good TA, otherwise I would have failed that class.
Moorthy is not as bad as the other raters claim. He teaches by example, stresses what he wants you to know, and is always willing to answer qs in class and in office hours. There has never been something on the exam that was not taught or was not in the book. The class average was always over 80% so idk why everyone complained so much..
Moorthy knows what he's talking about and gives you a ton of opportunities to come in for extra help or questions. he goes over what will be on tests and is a fair grader. He's a pretty good professor and not that difficult to understand once you get used to his accent.
To describe moorthy in one word: AWFUL. HIs accent is heavy and he is hard to understand. He teaches with an overhead projector and is very unclear when explaining concepts in class. I recommend staying away from this professor, unless you enjoy teaching yourself straight from the book.
