What Students Say
“Horrible teacher, made me buy a book he published for 100 dollars and the online code didn't even work, I had to call in to get it fixed, even after I saw the website was poorly done and we only had 2 online homework assignments which I paid 100 dollars for, it was infuriating, he grades really poorly too, I ended with a C- when I did all i could”

He's a really nice guy. Talks a lot. But you really got to keep an eye on his grading, he forgets to record hw all the time! His lectures have nothing to do with his tests so he's really not a very good professor.
He make the class fun.He is funny and his lecture is more informative then the book. He is a nice professor and he is easy to talk to when you need help.Tests are a little bit hard cuz his lecture does not have nothing to do with the tests some time.
Very good teacher. Takes time to help you in whatever you need. Goes over midterm and final in details. I will recommended to anyone who's taking this class.
he is a nice professor and all, but if you are an accounting major, don't take him, you won't learn as much as you would with other professors. If ur just looking for a grade, than he's fine, be a teachers pet for a great grade!
not good
He is a great teacher who cares about his students. He is very funny and makes accounting easier. He works with you to make sure you pass the class. Very lenient with homework, and gives great studyguides for tests.Everything on studyguide is on the test.
Actually makes math fun...believe it or not! Cares a lot about his students and is very approachable. Has a PhD and an MBA...very knowledgable about the field. I would recommend him to anyone...gives out extra credit points like its candy.
he is a good professor but if you are taking his class just to pass take him but if your major is accounting like me, do not cuz he is not clear. doesnt teaches well. bad thing he does not grade on a curve. midterms are final are quiet tough. wasted my class time cuz i learned nothing. thinking on taking it again with anther professor.got a B+ =)
The first business class I took at CSULA was Acct 201 with Dr. Yavari, and I loved it. He is a great and fun teacher who makes the topic extremely interesting. With the information I learned in his class, I went on to finish my bachelor's degree in business, and I am currently pursuing my MBA.I strongly recommend him.
I wouldn't advise taking him. He doesnt explain the material clearly and when studying for the exams you'll find it very difficult to follow along. He lies about what to study and what is actually on the exam. Change professors if you can. In the future I
its an easy class but u dont learn much about acct, if u care about the grade then be a teacher's pet cuz it works well with him, but if u want to learn stuff i wouldnt recommend him at all
He is easy and doesn't lecture a lot. too much time wasting on guests and practices, but the tests are not difficult. U won't learn but the grade should be fine and u can pass the class easily.
Excellent professor! We need more professors like him. Friendly, helpful, teaches well.
I like his teaching style. He seems to be genuinely interested in us learning. I find that he goes over the material over and over.
Easiest ACCT professor in maybe the entire country. only need to study his note to pass the tests. almost everything is based on tests and the tests are easy, no homework and group project. if u r looking to just pass ACCT, take him. if u wanna learn seriously, find someone else.
Do not take him if you are an acct major! You'll not learn much.
He is a great teacher. In the beginning it seems like your not learning at all but in the end you realize that you actually know something. He has a way of having you learn the material without even knowing it. Very fun and sweet.
There are no words to describe this professor. I will put it simple for you HE SUCKS!! I mean if you are not an accounting major go for it, you will get a passing grade without studying. If you are an accounting major, you are on your own. No matter how hard you try, there is no A if you don't kiss up to him.
he's great.... easy tests. give the answers b4.
Man everybody who says this guy sucks, needs to shut up. This guy takes you step by step through everything and really helps you understand the not so easy world of numbers. Good Suits. Great Guy
unprofessional, unfair to students (has favorites) and most importantly, does not know how to teach. to everyone who wants good grades and wants to learn, do not take him. if you feel as though you deserve an A, you'll receive a B and so forth. trust me, you'll get annoyed.
horrible.
He is a great prof. If you do bad on the tests you still can get a B in the class.
Helpful and understanding, and tests were based on book which worked out for me since I missed a lot of days. Presentation was a walk in the park and at the end, he didn't even need it presented in front of class - we just turned it in and got full credit.
Great professor i strongly recommend him.
Nice guy. not a great teacher but tries his best to see you pass. if you are concerned about your grade, he wont fail you
Pretty good prof. Test is multichoice/problems/mini essay. His problems (mini financial statements)are sorta confusing if you over think. If you dont get go ask him during the test he gives hints and for me he gave me answers to the problem twice! :) AWESOME, but would be better if he just make it more straight out to understand and not confuse us.
I took his Acct 300 class and it was ok. He is a good professor if you are looking for someone easy to pass the class but u'll not learn a lot from him. I took his class at night time and he let us go early and sometimes very early. I liked this. He gave the questions that came in the midterms and final.
Best Professor at this crappy school
best acct teacher, very smart, TAKE HIM u will never regret, his classes r always "sold out"
I like this prof, he is an awesome funny guy but he doesnt seem to care about the lower division classes.
Take him if you are not accounting major. You learn very little from him, but the good thing about him is he give you hints, aka direct questions from the exam before you take it so I guess it's alright.
TIP/HINT/ADVICE: Easy A, attend MIDterm 1,2 & Final reviews *THIS IS A MUST, tells you EXACTLY whats on the exams, ExamContent: 3-4 prblms (75-80%) & about 35 M/C (20-25%). Ask ALOT of Q's during reviews. MY REGRETS: i didnt study the prblms he gave they were EXACTLY the same but diff. figures, I should have taken another prof & i LEARNED NOTHING!!
ok, i got a 33 on the midterm. and i know i failed the final. but he gave me a C! he'll pass everyone! i still dont know anything
u don't need text book for this class but i suggest u 2 attend class cause his lectures are really helpful for ur tests. 1 project, 2 midterms, 1 final (not comprehensive). he gives the Q&A that's gonna be on the test. he goes step by step (slowly) & wants u to completely understand the material. he's such a sweet gentle man, super nice and EASY!
he's cool, and he is really one of the easiest teachers on the campus. If this is not your major and you just want to get bye than he is the guy for you, his class is chill, because he has a life other than school, and he is very smart, and really cares about the students, test okay easy grader, and he doesn't give alot of work
He'll go over specific exam topic before the exam day. Very easy going
Horrible teacher. Has no idea how to convey ideas, then tests you on the textbook without ever going over the type of problems. No point in going to class. Additionally, he screws up the tests by keying the scantrons wrong. If so, he'll give everyone bonus points, but since he grades on a curve, that's tantamount to doing nothing. Do not take.
Take very good notes cause its very useful in the future. Highly recommended to take this professor cause he teaches and gives us what is very useful. Gives good examples related to the real world.
Easy. You can fail a the tests and still pass the class. He is very generous.
Prof. Yavari is the reason I changed my major to accounting. He really cares about his students and makes sure you understand the subject. Take good notes of the examples in class and DO the homework and you'll get an A.
he is like a very busy person, so he will let u go early every time. anyway, easy grader
every time leave early, easy class just do some review and problems. not much helpful.
This Prof. is very easy. I did not use the text AT ALL and the final was easy. He seems like he doesnt like to teach, you leave early all the time. If you don't want to learn and have an easy quarter, take him. If you don't want to waste your money and learn something, take someone else.
I don't know why people made bad comments about him. He only teaches the essentials in accounting. Some professors just talk bs that may or may not relate to the class. but this professor gets right to the point, gives a lot of examples, goes over all the HW.. He tries to teach the hard material in the easiest way. 1 final,1 project,1 presentation.
it is very nice to have professors that cares. the class is easy, you just have to listen and take good notes of his examples. HM, you can take your time and he will take it as long as you did it. I will take him again if I could.
Likes students asking questions if they don't understand the material. Nice professor, easy to talk to. No mid-term which is good and bad because you will not see his testing style until the final. Easy to pass but not easy to get an A. Mostly review and not enough teaching of new material.
Take this teacher if you are a non accounting major. The professor just goes over the basics and makes accounting really easy to understand. Theres just one final, so you need to really prepare yourself for it. Notes are provided at the bookmark...(you dont really need it) So theres one final, one internal control paper, and one group project.
Horrible teacher.Makes you copy a lot of things from pptslides, refuses to email them and then as soon as you finish copying it all, says that you don't need any of it for final. Lectures on topics and once you copy it all, says he's required to teach it but it wont be on final. Says final will be easy but then gives you problems he never went over
He is a great professor. If you're an accounting professor, take him. You'll learn a great deal from him. He is awsome, funny, and knowledgeable.
He is truly a great teacher. He is the reason why I changed my major to accounting. He cares a great deal for his students. He is the only one in this school that respects students. Extremely helpful and knoweledable in accounting.
Professor Yavari is one of the CalState LA's best. Not only he is extremely helpful, but a very kind individual. I respect him very much. If you're an accounting student, definitely take him. He cares about his student. I wish we had many professors like him in the world. Very Handsome!
He doesnt teach the information that you need in order to do good in the cases that he gives you. He is easy, lets you leave early, but i will never take another class with him. Non-accounting majors, take him.
Did not learn anything in his class, his lectures are irrevelant to the tests, so class will be a waste of time.
Easy professor, easy class. Dont mess up on the final since your whole grade depends on it!
He's nice to everyone, but his lectures are not clear. 2 midterms and a final, confusing. one presentation in the end of the course.
NOT VERY GOOD.
Final is hard...He asked the problems that never went over in the class..His TA is not much helpful when you ask him a question..Not an easy "A" but "B"
This guy is the best. I believe about the Final; its ridiculous to assume we can memorize everything he covered over the entire course. But this guy is very nice and very knowledgeable and I would take hime for every ACCT class if I could
Unprofessional, lazy, and biased professor. Doesn't teach nothing at all. Doesn't prepare us for the exams, his lectures have nothing to do with exams. Waste of time, better off learning in the book's website.
I enjoyed being in the class all the time because he teaches the material with a humor manner and relates every aspect of it to a real aspect that are happening in the economy.
Take the class if you want to "just pass". Not the best class to take if you're an Accounting Major since you really have to know the material in the future and he doesn't really go over everything, probably just the basics. He's a nice man with a good sense of humor but you can't take him if you want to get something out of the class.
I'm not a big fan of accounting but this class was pretty easy (marketing major). Teacher is a good genuine guy. Offers his private number for you to call (which I used) and was helpful. Everything is group work so if be "people friendly" or else.. It's basically a recap of Fin/Man accounting. If you don't like presentations, don't take this class.
Funny teacher, let's you partner up to work on the in-class assignments. Midterm is easy, Final is number crunching. Be sure to know your formulas. Only one 7-10 minute group presentation, one 7-10 pager on the presentation topic, and one paper on a company that you interview, all due on 10th week; bombed final, I still passed.
He is a very knowledgeable Professor - The class is hard if you do not like ACCTing, but he's a great teacher. The project is really easy - He's tests are very hard, but he's flexible - Highly Recommend you take him!
Very nice to every student. Encourage group study. 1 Midterm is easy. Final a little challenging. But do not teach much. and he forgot to teach one topic which appears in the final...
Professor Yavari is a nice, wonderful teacher. He has prepared lots of useful information related to the lecture. He cares his students and will help them go through their hardship, but as a student, you have to show you have done your work. I recommend anyone who wants to learn the subject take his class. Easy exams and homework if you study.
He doesnt try to make the subject hard and confusing like the other professors. He uses very reasonable, real life approach to teach you the basics and make it very easier for you to understand. The whole class athmosphere was so relaxed and fun that it makes it really enjoyable to come to class and do the homeworks. Although he doesnt cover that much, you will end up learning a lot because it will stick with you.
He is nice, but I learn nothing in his class.Easy to pass, not easy to get good grade. If you feel as though you deserve an A, you will get B.
Avoid this man at all cost.He doesn't know anything about this subject very lazy, unprofessional , and unhelpful. this man shouldn't be allowed to teach!
I would take him again. The good: he is funny, makes everything very simple, allows all work to be done as a group and goes over all answers. The bad: book is expensive and not very useful, he is pretty lazy. Overall he is pretty good.
Cool teacher that will pass everybody.
Like someone else said, the book is very expensive and not that useful, though for a few key things you can't do without it. New, it gives you access to the class website, which is completely useless. Try to buy it used if you can. Other than that, Yavari is fair, and tests aren't that hard, though there is a considerable amount of homework.
Cool guy, easy going lectures, I did learn quite a few things in his class. If I were go grade him overall, I would give him a solid B. Not a tough grader, but class requires a decent amount of work to be done on your part which all ties into exams. Class had 70 students enrolled!(limit was 35)OUCH!
Highly recommended!!!
Prof.Yavari says in the beginning of the class"this class will be easy, don't worry about the tests, just have fun with it." well nohe skims briefly on the book and teaches that to the class.2 midterms (he took the highest scores &doubled it) and one final. 15% hw online took me forever. KNOW income st & balance sheet well (most points);3Pts mc x30
30 multi choice thats 3 pts each. income and balance sheet a lot of its on test just 2 ques on that. know COGS is part of expenses in Income statement. know whats an asset and liab. it tells u in book! participate to write stuff on board, he likes that. YOU WELCOME!!!!
Easy A
30 multiple choice questions for the midterms worth 3 points each.Finals is 30 multiple questions "4 points each". Make sure to do the HWs, Case Study, internal control paper, and extra credit. You do not need to buy the book new as long as you know people that can send you the links needed. He lets the class out early. Fun and interactive class
My first B in accounting, NOT an easy A, you do not need to buy the book new even though he says so, no reading, just do all the assignments, most work done in class, make sure you get good partners for your group project, MC tests plus a few written questions, 1 Mid, 1 Final, group project, individual project, and a case study, gives a study guide
Lectures have nothing to do with his final exam or midterms. He tells you what to study on...but his tests include other items as well. What he tells you study on IS NOT enough. Lectures are pointless. His tests are basically definitions of words in the book. Teaches the basics, tests on the advanced. Take at your own risk. Do not recommend.
He doesn't teach anything just basic material and the tests are too hard.u need read whole books!
Book was worthless. Worst Acct. book I've had. Had to refer to ALL my other Acct. books to figure things out. Homework was not explained. Tests weren't bad but a TON of the class failed the midterm (no curve). Teacher is super nice and class was interesting enough. Would take again, not super difficult.
This is the most relaxed and nice teacher you will find. The book is not very helpful. There's a couple of team projects. The class is forgetable and you're not gonna learn much, but it's also not very demanding. If you want to learn, you might want to pick a different professor.
His tests are based on the book, not the lecture. He doesn't explain the debit and credit well, and his tests are HARD. I learned NOTHING from this class. Pick someone else if you want to pass ACCT 211 and Acct 310!!
Professor Yavari is by far the worse professor @ CSULA. I learned nothing, syllabus changed constantly, isn't approchable, doesn't provide clarity & simply expects you to know EVERYTHING! 1 midterm, Internal Control Paper, Group Presentation/Paper. Class VP does ALL his clerical work. Time consuming & students expect the VP to have all the answers!
Acct Majors. Match this with acct 320A for easy A. I did this accidentally and everything in acct 310 was about 1 or 2 weeks behind acct 320a and easier. Yavari is extremely friendly and does his best to help out the students. The first test was easy, the final left me saying wtf where'd that come from? Group projects were very easy. Take him
Easy class
The class wasnt all that easy. a lot of homework and classwork. You kind of have to figure everything out on your own.
Dr. Yavari is by far one of the best accounting professors I've had. He's approachable, intelligent ,and really passionate about his material! Definitely a great human being too and will miss his class!
Accounting is not my strongest suit, yet I was able to get a B in this class. Yavari takes his time explaining the material, he's helpful and passionate about accounting. Class was not easy. I studied and made sure I understood the material. Don't miss class, ask questions, and be ready to work hard. If you have all that you will pass this class.
Kind, helpful, considerate and respected professor. But he seems to have a lot on his plate and seemed rather unorganized. Textbook had 17 chapters and he covered only 11. His syllabus doesn't state properly what chapters will we covered each week nor the due dates of assignments and homework.
Prof. Yavari knows his craft and is passionate about it. He is understanding and will give credit for late work. The course has 5 HW, 1 Paper, 1 Group Presentation, 1 Case Study. Sounds like alot of work but its really not as it very easy to complete. Just show up to class, come prepared, and work hard.
He is a good professor in the sense that he knows the subject very well. That being said as stated previously he has too much on his plate. He picks an assistant the first day of class and you have to basically trust that he/she does a good job at recording grades correctly. He was unorganized as much as the assistant, too many grading errors.
Horrible teacher, made me buy a book he published for 100 dollars and the online code didn't even work, I had to call in to get it fixed, even after I saw the website was poorly done and we only had 2 online homework assignments which I paid 100 dollars for, it was infuriating, he grades really poorly too, I ended with a C- when I did all i could
Very intelligent man but he is SO unorganized. Incorrect grades make sure to review them! Late at grading.. Tests are based on the book! He found mistakes on our mterm & had to give us extra points.. Approachable but not very clear
Yavari would be a great speaker, encouraging students about their futures, or helping people as a life coach. His grading is inconsistent. He gave me an extra 10 points on my paper for waiting for him... not cool... i had no idea what my grade was going into the final because the 2 assignments that weigh heavily on your grade weren't graded...
Class is straightforward and you can easily pass the class if you do the work! He encourages you to do the work with your group and he checks it! He is preparing you for the REAL WORLD!
Yvari is disorganized and all over the place. I never really felt the need to go to class because he wouldn't explain much. He assigns a group project, and about 4-5 take home assignments. You need to buy his book just to get the code for two assignments. Went into the final not knowing my grade because he made three big assignments due that day.
Take professor Yavari if you want to feel lost all semester. Doesn't know how to manage a class. People would be laughing and talking very loud the entire class and he would say nothing, what a joke. He would also have a student keep track of grades and assignments which is very sloppy and lazy. You basically have to teach yourself for this class.
He is very nice.
Do NOT take Asad Yavari. He is the professor who wrote the ACCT 310 book, yet he can't even teach it correctly!!!! His lectures make you CONFUSED. I have witnessed him get SO rude with students. I am enrolled in his 5 Week Summer Course, he is adding ANOTHER test and randomly assigns homework. Worst professor I have taken in college.
Not very organized, laid back, helpful if you approach him. Pretty much have to teach yourself. Textbook & Online code for 1 or 2 assignments-$100. I recommend you stay on top of your assignments, the syllabus, and what he tells the class. Can be some confusion in communication with the class. Just talk to him, he's a nice man. Allows late work.
Not a good professor. Understands and knows his material very well, but lacks the ability to teach it. Tests and homework were ok, but the final was very unorganized (like himself) and covered everything from start to finish. Be careful with this guy.
DO NOT TAKE HIM whether you hope to learn something or to get good grades. He just assumed everyone already known everything about the class. Once approach to ask question, he told me that I don't need to understand. what? He is so confused and unorganized, so were his tests. I will not waste my money and time on him trust me, stay away from him.
He knows what hes teaching but doesnt explain right and assumes everyone understands the topic. Doesnt provide study guides for the midterms or final.
No powerpoint, no quiz, 2 midterm, 1 final and homework online. Do really understand this class but I pass
He is a good teacher I honestly dont know why so many complains. Honestly this class just depends on you on what you make of it . Your decision to follow the croud or do your best. Study. Attend. And do all hw.
He's really nice but the material is hard. At the start it was easy but its lot of information and it just got harder as the semester went on. He's very knowledge and passionate since he is a real life accountant. He'll help you but you have to ask him for help. This class is just hard.
no daily hw, its online, due before final. two midterms, one final. gives study guides that are not very helpful for tests. basically have to teach yourself since he throws you into the subject even tho this is a beginning accounting course. missing one lecture can throw you off unless you study on your own. overall, he is kind but should not teach
You literally get no homework, it's all on wiley plus (which you have to pay for) it due at the end of the semester. 2 midterms. 1 final. he literally talks all day as if we know what he is talking about. WE DON'T unless you read the chapter everyday before coming to class you will get a clue of what he is talking about. Does not communicate at all
3 tests, being 2 midterms and final. Homework was online and due at the end of the semester. WARNING.. Heavy lectures!!! Make sure to take very good notes and read the textbook if you want to pass. Take good notes and study all the material on your own because he won't help you with his useless study guides. Trust me!
Although he is an accounting major and understands accounting, he does not know how to teach to students. Many students have never taken accounting before and he thinks everyone has. He does not use any powerpoints and is very boring and confusing. He also does not input grades until the end of the semester. He will help students if they ask for it
Worst professor to ever walk this planet, doesn't give any assignments, badd at explaining. he thinks you already know everything he is explaining. the only time u see the actual questions of accounting is during the exam which will make u fail. dont choose this guy hes horrible.
This class is the professional ethics class. Definitely one of the useless classes you have to take as an accounting major. Prof is completely unorganized with useless class discussions. This was taken during the pandemic and thank god it was online because I just can't fcking stand listening to him lecture at all. For your sake, don't take him.
I didn't like his teaching style. I never knew what chapters we were meant to read. I also hated when he would say "whatever I say is gonna be on the test or is very important". When he would try to explain the word problems he would jump around different topics.
Don't be discouraged by the negative reviews, He's a great professor. He's very helpful in answering any question and his lectures are very throughout. You need to be a willing student to learn accounting in order to fully of your materials, participate in lectures, and most importantly ASK QUESTIONS.
Amazing professor; he is very straightforward and easy to talk to. There is only one group project worth a lot of points, the only way to get a good grade on the project is to keep your team members on track!! He makes you purchase readings, make sure you present to get those points. Just give a summary. No midterms, just one final.
Love Professor Asad response time and helpfulness prior to starting a class. Professor Asad is insightful and knowledgeable in regards to accounting in all fields.
Inspiring to achieve my goal. Professor Asad guidance will be helpful and knowledgeable in the accounting field. Put in the work and you will earn what you get. People need to understand that rate my Professor is skewed either really bad or really good. But this professor is responsive and understanding.
This professor is understanding. There will be lots of textbook assignments on cengage and those assignments will take up a lot of your time.
Professor Yavari is an amazing professor. You will need to purchase WileyPlus in order to take his exams and complete homework assignments. His lectures are easy to understand if you pay attention. He is very approachable and is extremely helpful. He wants his students to succeed in his class. Do the work and you will be fine.
All homework, assignments, quizzes, and exams are assigned online. Quizzes are weekly, timed, and multiple-choice. Midterms (2) and final exam are multiple-choice and timed. Readings are helpful for exams and quizzes. Lectures: no comment Readings: LONG but doable WileyPlus & textbook are required. Complete the week's module to stay on track.
Professor Yavari is chill, but I didn't learn much from his class. He's a tough grader and gives no feedback; the class is easy just don't expect to get an A. Attendance is graded so try not to miss class. Each week's assignment is simple, read an article and present what you learned from it in a group. There are 2 papers, but one is with a group.
You learn nothing from him only the book, and everything you learn from the book is different from what is in the exam. The only practice you will get is from the Wileyplus Hw's but they are different from the exam. Take this class if you want to fail.
Doesn't know how to teach undergrads. Supposed to be for accounting & non accounting majors but he rarely gave good lectures and went off topic. The homework isn't do-able unless you're an accounting major because the readings are so long. Gave low effort & a week before finals assigned 3 more modules that aren't on the final. Choose another prof.
When taking the course online everything is done through Wiley Plus. Every week there are 2 practice assignments, 1 homework assignment, and a quiz. But, the professor gives 3 opportunities on assignments to get the most points per question. Everything is strictly online and it's pretty much teaching yourself everything at your own pace.
Professor Asad's class is a challenge, but if you put in the work and use helpful resources like unstuck study, you can succeed. Attend lectures, complete WileyPlus assignments, and don't be afraid to ask questions. The grading is fair, and Professor Asad genuinely wants students to learn.
Doesn't explain topics well & skims over a lot of info. Relies on students asking questions during lectures but doesn't give helpful explanations, just refers you to your notes. Canvas access requires book purchase. 3 lengthy assignments + a quiz weekly but open until end of semester. 6 assignments for content not on the final or covered in class.
