A very good math professor, she give lots of extra credit and her tests are fair. she gives lots of homework but it really helps to do it b/c its the best way to learn the material and she give many quiz and test questions that are like the hw. She gives a quiz every week and will help you if you need it. Very fair professor.
Shes a good professor compared to the others that teach pre-calc. Shes fair and gives hw and quizes weekly to boost your grade. she offers extra credit, and is willing to help you as long as youre willing to ask for it. she may seem mean but she really isn;t. If i were choosing betwen her and the others id pick her trust me
She doesn't explain anything when giving notes and pulls things out of her butt. You have a quiz daily and 4 tests. One good thing is that she drops the lowest test grade and two lowest quiz grades. If your not good at math then don't take her
Not the easiest teacher or the nicest teacher. However she teaches well, gets the point across and is fair. Pretty helpful, if you attend office hours you'll do well. Best math teacher I've taken here.
Shes tough but do extra credit & homework & it will help your grade. Shes very helpful in her office hours. SHe also gives take home tests sometimes. Study old homework& Quizzes& tests for the final.
worst teacher ever. went to tutoring center 2x a week and it didnt help. most insensitive teacher i've ever had. refused to answer questions during classtime because she rushes through notes. definately do not take if you are bad at math
Very good lecture class. Let us discuss things that concerned us. I looked forward to going to the class. She was very nice and I left the class with a lot of good advice from her.
Great teacher. Gives quizes about once a week which help with the tests. If you need to take calc take her.
Great teacher! I loved her class and I enjoyed going. She lets you talk about what ever you feel like. Everyone would eat breakfast in her class and just discuss. Don't bring your laptop she thinks its rude, and attendance is mandatory just because your grade is based on participation.
she is an awful teacher and she doesn't explain things well at all. i had calc my senior year of high school and thats the only way i got through the class...don't take unless you enjoy teaching yourself
Really easy class! little work required, one simple paper about your identity, and weekly discussions. She's a math teacher, so she doesnt really care about english, so the papers are really easy. Highly recommended!
If you like math, or have taken calc in high school, the class isn't bad. Takes the top ten quiz scores and drops any additional ones. Tests aren't too bad, but they do require some studing. Overall, I really liked her.
needless to say, i had to drop the class. if u end up having her, good luck, hope u like teaching yourself calculus, especially fun if u didnt have calculus prior !!!
This is the worst teacher i've ever had. She think she is so nice but tries to screw everyone over. The problems she gives in class are so easy but then she gives a test or a quiz with impossible questions. Doesn't give any partial credit. Oh and have fun with the online quizzes. They blow.
Best teacher ever! So clear and if you pay attention you will do well! People think they will get a good grade without doing any work and that is why she gets poor reviews. Tests and Quizzes are easy..Take Her!
If you have never taken calculus in your life, you are better off trying to learn calculus from the bible, a newspaper, or an atlas. I pulled my hair out over this class.
She is terribly unclear and not very helpful. Her projects are long and difficult, often not having to do with what you're learning currently. There is a quiz EVERY week, she drops the lowest 2. 4 tests and the final is cumlative. Doesnt check homework, but you need to do it to understand. No attendance..doesnt know names. Do not reccomend at all!!
I started out doing SO badly in this class, it was a struggle to stay awake. I was basically failing a class I had already taken in high school, she just confused me even more. Then I started going to the learning center a lot and everyone in class begged her for take home tests and quizzes and she gave them to us. That was the only good thing.
I took 110 thinking it would be a breeze...we its not. I was never any good at math and always banked on partial credit...well in this class, there is no such thing. You answers are right or wrong.
Most insensitive teacher I have ever had. Paid attention in class and still had to go to the learning center twice a week. Gets annoyed when you ask questions and always has an attitude
Very challenging class for a 110. I did well, but had to do a lot at home. Doesn't explain well, unless you push her. Use YouTube referenced in the text with sample tests for better explanations. For those that complain about 'partial credit' - math is an exact science so basically it's right or wrong; you shouldn't expect anything if it's wrong.
Already took this class in HS, started off doing well, but she is horrible at teaching so that students can grasp understanding. Don't take this class thinking it will be a breeze, people who have already taken Calc in HS are failing! Quizzes every week, and her exams are extremely difficult! Puts material on quizzes/test she has not gone over.
Prof. Dawson is a strict lady. She has a tough love personality, which isn't necessarily bad, but when you don't understand something, she doesn't always offer help. She does give quizzes every week which might seem annoying, but they help you remember the material. Overall she is a fair teacher and it wouldn't be horrible if you took her.
If you have not already been exposed to pre-calc DO NOT TAKE. Wednesday is Quiz Day. If your class fails everything she will make the quizzes take home. Be prepared to take notes and then reteach the material to yourself after class. Gave one take home exam-took me 4 hours(legit)to complete. Nice lady but tough class. If not good in math DON'T TAKE
great lady
She wants the best for the class. She gave 1 take home test, 5 take home quiz (out of 12) and then dropped the lowest 2 quizzes and lowest test. How can you complain about that? She teaches quickly and leaves alot to be done on your own as you would in any college level class The textbook and answer book is helpful.Do the work and you will be fine.
If you pay attention and take notes its not as difficult a class as it seems. Take advantage of her office hours for extra help.
Love her! She's super cool, papers are never really more than a page or two and not very often at all. Annotations are recommended for class discussion since it gets awkward if nobody read. Class discussions are always fun and talk about common topics we all relate to.
She was fairly easy, Wednesday is quiz day if you take her. She assigns homework after every class and it is usually beneficial for tests. 4 tests, 10 quizzes count, all lowest dropped. She takes an attendance quiz the friday before Thanksgiving or Spring break, make sure you are there for an easy A!
Terrible teacher, she rarely teaches during class. I usually teach myself by doing the homework's. Oh and the homework's are done online and take minimum 2 hours to complete. Don't take her...
The material is dry and can be difficult and I ended up having to teach myself most of it. She assigns a lot of homework and weekly quizzes but they're for your benefit. She prohibits calculators as they are her Kryptonite, and she has not mastered basic English linguistics, eg. she pronounces "formula" as "formaluh." Forgettable.
not an easy A but if u already took precalc in HS like me u will by fine. all the HW are online which can get frustrating cus the computer want the exact answer. her test are not that bad. study the quizzes and do the review questions before taking the test cus sometimes she puts the same exact question on the test.
She assigns homework everyday, which involves math lab doing 30 problems of math daily. this is the equivalence of 2 to 3 hours of math depending on how good you are at teaching yourself math through out the course. She replies to no emails, not one!! so don't bother emailing her. Rely on going to tutoring heavily if your taking dawson.
The worst math experience I have ever had was in her class. She never gave the title of the lesson and homework was never explained and always online. She gave 3 question quizzes that everyone failed and put formulas on the quiz that did not apply to the lesson to trick people. She gave an online test after not holding class for a week.
Avoid her at all costs!! Def my hardest and most time consuming class. If you like spending 20hours a week doing homework on my math lab and another 15hours studying class notes weekly then have at it and take her. She also has a bad habit of pushing off emails and not replying to any of them Also she doesnt show up for her own final review session
AVOID AT ALL COSTS. I took her for MA118 and it was absolutely horrible. She doesn't explain the problems going through them and the problems on tests and quizzes are usually much more challenging than what is on the homework or done in class. Also, doing all the homework online is very annoying and taking a quiz every Wednesday is a pain.
Do not take this class. Shes is terrible. Hard grader and does not care about you at all. I learned nothing and had a terrible experience
She is extremely fair and the class is not that hard. I am not good at math and still was easily able to get an A. If you do the homework you will most likely be fine. She is funny and gives extra credit. Only 4 tests and you can retake one if you want.
I'm going to start off by saying that I am horrible at Math. With that being said, quizzes are every Wednesday. The quizzes are not difficult but the tests are more challenging and are not the same as the problems from homework class. Never went to her office hours however, I was able to get an A in the class doing my own studying.
I took this class online over the summer and I guess I didn't really think about the amount of work that had to be covered within a 5 week course in comparison to having a whole semester. I do not recommend taking this course over the summer, you will spending your days struggling through youtube videos and endless homework assignments. Good Luck
Dawson is very helpful if you go to office hours and ask for help. She almost never responds to emails so if you need to communicate with her do it in class or office hours. Her class is very hard because the amount of homework that is given makes it impossible to keep up. A quiz every Wednesday is not as bad as I thought but it is not great.
Do not take for Calculus! She gives an insane amount of online homework that is completely irrelevant to what she teaches in class and what's on the test. Even the peer fellow doesn't know whats going on. No calculators on tests. Quiz every Wednesday. She's very sarcastic and can get a little rude sometimes. Worst math experience ever
Dawson has good intentions for her students, but she doesn't communicate well and sometimes she's not even sure of what she is teaching. Quizzes every wednesday, four exams that are really hard but she allows a notecard if you ask. Never went to her office hours but I heard that they helped. Had to mostly learn the stuff on my own.
Yes, there is a quiz every Wednesday and the homework takes about 2-3 hours to complete. However, she gives extra credit on every exam and some of her quizzes are attendance quizzes. You can also use a notecard on every test and retake one if you want! She is really straightforward and I enjoyed her enough to take her twice.
Possibly the worst math class I have every taken. She is rude and doesn't care if you understand the material or not. We had to purchase the online textbook to do homework that took 2-3 hours every night. She told us to purchase the textbook for a lifetime instead of just the semester because we would probably have to retake the class.
Dawson is the worst math teacher I have ever had. In the class she isn't that bad, but if you don't understand something it's an inconvenience for her to help you. She will say "Go to learning commons." I strongly do NOT recommend if you don't completely understand calculus.
Do the homework and you'll be okay. She is so nice and explains everything so well. Really like her even though I don't like Calc
Professor Dawson is one of the coolest professors I have ever had. She genuinely cares about her students and is extremely kind. However, her tests are difficult, she does not allow calculators, and she moves quickly in lectures. She is very accessible after class, but has quizzes every Wednesday. Overall I'd recommend but be ready to work
She is the best math teacher I have had in a long time. She explains lessons in a very clear manner and provides many examples to make sure students are understanding. She makes sure she gives a class day in between homework assignments so you can ask questions to make sure you do okay.
if you have to take her its not the end of the world. her as a person is fine she's nice and caring about her students but as a teacher... she needs a new job. only passing because my highschool teacher was amazing and the info stuck with me. online homework everynight basically. keep up with it... or else. drops lowest grades. has extrahelp hours
quizzes every wednesday and tests almost every week with no calculators. i never took calc before this class and still got an A but definitely had to work for it, which she warned us at the beginning of the semester about having to work for your grade and she was right. funny and honest person overall. dont be afraid to take her!
Weekly quizzes on Wednesday using calculator, but only counts best 10. 4/5 tests, but allowed note card, not calculator. Long & difficult online homework assignments on Webassign, but can get 100%. Fast lectures, but very nice & always offers help. Seems intimidating, but if attend class and work diligently and understand, then not a hard class.
expects you to have prior knowledge in calc but is very straightforward. all homework assignments are online and there is a quiz every wednesday. easy class as long as you pay attention in class
Overall the class is not terrifying, however it is very stressful throughout the semester. I found that concepts which I typically thought I was solid on became much harder during the course. She loves to put really challenging questions on exams to test your strength. She allows a notecard on exams.
I had previously taken calc and thought it would be a breeze. Very hard class with a lot of homework but overall she was very helpful in class and let me make up some unfinished homework at the end of the semester. Quiz every week but she comes across tougher than she is. Overall I would recommend her class.
Assigns homework online due about 3 times per week. Quiz every week so be prepared. If you put in effort and study outside of class you should be fine.
The class is not that hard as it seems. As long as you attend class and focus you will be fine. Yes, there is lot of homework but it is doable as there isn't much penalty and homework grade can make your overall grade better. (she lets you even make up the missed hw to bring up you grade). Tests are not so hard- no calculators-allows notecard.
Overall, she is a good professor. Calc is not easy to begin with so you have to put in a lot of studying and work. Lots of hw but it's definitely an easy grade booster. Quiz once a week and 4 tests (+ the final) throughout the semester. She drops a few low quiz grades and tries to help everyone get a good grade, better than other professors.
Calc it self is not any easy class, and if you are willing to put in the time to learn you will do good in her class. Khan Academy is really good at giving examples she will also give. Shes very clear on what she expects for the tests and the final. Weekly quizzes and homework often, long as you are willing to put in the work you will do good.
She made Calculus, which I was completely dreading taking, an absolute breeze. It wasnt fun or anything, but it was definitely much better than it could have been considering the material. Calc is hard, but she makes it easy and makes sure you understand whats going on. Dont let her scare you off on the first day, because shes really the best.
the only reason I'm doing well is because I took AP calc in high school and ask my teacher from high school for help. the homework is all online and has problems that we never even learn in class. if you've never taken calc before don't take professor Dawson. she also likes to mock you if you ask questions and call students out.
Please take Professor Dawson! Im someone whos always struggled with math, but shes straight forward in her lectures. Only thing is you do need a lot of background math from algebra and precalc. Shes also very nice/helpful in office hours!
She went pretty fast and did not start giving good examples until the end of the semester. I had to go to the learning commons twice a week. She gives you one quiz a week, told you what was on it, helped bump up grade. Dropped the lowest test and quiz. If you already have a good background in Calc you will be fine
I felt like this class was taught as if the students had already taken AP calc. I really struggled at the beginning of the year bc I had never taken it before. She is really nice but the class did not get better for me until the second half of the semester... Going to the peer review helps
Professor Dawson was a pretty good professor. There is a lot of online homework, but you get used to it after a while and it's not bad. The exams are also pretty easy. She doesn't really answer emails so it's hard to get in touch with her. Taking AP Calculus in high school definitely helped because sometimes she goes kind of fast
Professor Dawson seemed like a great option at first. What wasn't enjoyable was her boring lectures, little walkthroughs for examples, and generally boring teaching style. I was disinterested the entire class and if you messed up on a test it was hard to come back from. Stand clear unless you like boring lectures.
Professor Dawson is great. She is a great math professor for hybrid learning. Learning in person and on zoom was very easy for her class. The material is challenging but is not too hard if you take notes and pay attention in class. The tests are taken on your own time and they're on a lockdown browser for covid purposes. I 100% recommend her!
Don't take this professor if you do not have a good background of Calc. Some concepts I grasped fine while other concepts I struggled with and had to teach myself because her explanations weren't clear. HW can take ages but is a grade booster. If you're good with Calc, I would recommend her though. Not an easy A and you have to work for your grade.
used a flipped class learning style. hard to get her to actually teach the material. Unclear and was very difficult to follow in lecture. would jump all over the place in class and wouldn't have a lesson plan, would just go about class based off of the questions people had. she was a nice lady, but shouldn't be teaching math.
Professor Dawson is super down to earth and loves when people ask questions. No matter how simple the question she is happy to help and I have never seen her talk down to a student like many other professors do. She gets a bad rap just because calculus is really hard, but she makes it a warm environment and is pretty funny too!
Professor Dawson is great! If you pay attention and participate in class, you shouldn't have any trouble. She leaves time at the beginning of class to answer any questions you may have, but if you don't ask them then, she's hard to reach outside of class. The homework assignments have helpful videos and tests are based off of lecture material.
If you aren't good at math or did well in pre-calc or have a hard time with calc, don't take this professor. Boring lectures that drag out example problems, changed the exam structure every time, and did not bring enthusiasm into class.
Doesn't teach at all and expects you to know certain untaught concepts. I've probably taught myself everything or had to be tutored. The only pro is that she is very friendly. 45% of your grade is based on tests. Quizzes are somewhat easy and so are tests if you understand the material very well. She also assigns and absurd amount of homework.
Professor Dawson is a very nice woman, but when it comes to her teaching style it can be very hard to follow. She starts every class by answering questions, but other than that she doesn't really have an organized lesson plan. There is a lotttt of homework that doesn't really reflect the tests. Overall, she is one of the better calc profs.
- tests and quizzes were much easier than they should have been - her irresponsibility as a teacher made me have to learn all these tough concepts by myself - borderline verbal abuse students overall 0/10... why is she still a teacher?!
friendly but isnt the quality for a teacher.. if you're taking one of her courses you'll see she fools around most of the time & doesnt teach. shame.
Expected more from QU...she always mocked students when they got the answer wrong
its not calc, its her teaching style. she cant explain things. personality was OK, she just should not be a math teacher imo
Used to be a 5 star review, then I took her for Calc...
I took Professor Dawson for Calculus and it was not fun. I took calculus in high school and this class was still pretty hard, couldn't imagine what it would have been like if I didn't. There is so much homework and like four exams in the semester. She doesn't really have a lesson plan, we just write down the random problems she does on the board.
Allows notes on tests, homework repeats, easy grader. Nice, funny, and caring teacher.
Very disorganized, doesn't announce changes to schedule or days where she is available. She was not available outside of class at all. You are allowed to have a note sheet on all exams but she doesn't give any help on review materials and doesn't believe in giving the answer keys to review.
Her classes were sooo disorganized. I think the only reason I got a good grade in this class is because I took AP calculus in high school. She gives note sheets for tests but when she posts a review, she doesn't post an answer key so it's basically useless. Overall, she's a nice person but I felt like I was teaching myself most of the concepts.
1. Quizzes every Friday and lots of homework. 2. She's a nice person but not a great teacher. 3. If you ever email her don't expect a reply, she never replies. 4. Depending on how you learn you may not like how she teaches, which requires a lot of self-teaching. 5. Does not give review sheets for quizzes but allows note sheets on tests.
Professor Dawson is a nice lady. However, she shouldn't be a teacher. Doesn't explain topics or concepts well and will give a sloppy response to your questions. There is a lot of homework (around 21 problems split into multiple parts) due anywhere between 2-4 days and the problems are much harder than work in class. Do not take this professor.
Professor Dawson is an ok/good professor. Her teaching can sometimes be confusing, but the content is just hard sometimes. The homework's are so long and awful, they take HOURS every single week to complete. She is not accessible outside of class. Attend the peer fellow and a tutor and you will be fine. I would suggest taking another calc professor
Personally, I'm slow at math, and taking her was a mistake. I did not like her way of teaching. I felt that I had to teach myself all the material. She occasionally does group work, so beware of that. Don't even get me started on the homework. It would take me hours to complete. Take another professor for calc !!!!
While in her class, she lacked the ability to teach a lecture properly and instead had us refer to the textbook and engage in assignments almost all the time. Any worksheets/handouts she provided for us would not be anything like the test. Her syllabus says to devote at least 9 hours a week to her course, and for good reason. SHE CAN NOT TEACH!!!
Very nice teacher, but doesn't teach at all. Tests are really hard, gives lots of HW, doesn't notify you of any tests or upcoming homework assignments. The only good thing is that she allows a one sided piece of paper on tests, which can be a life saver. Would not take again.
awful professor. so mean
She is such a sweet lady and so nice to talk to. Sadly, she just isn't a great teacher if you don't have a good calc background. She moves very fast and doesn't really explain things, just puts problems on the board and does them out. You emailed her? Don't expect a response. Homework takes HOURS and she takes FOREVER to grade tests.
Prof Dawson is a nice person, but she isn't a good teacher if you don't have a STRONG calc background. She moves very fast and will teach brand-new subjects right before the exam. Not everything is on the test reviews (which is the entire point of a test review?) Do every single homework. Her tests quiz you on more difficult problems than necessary
She was a good professor and gave plenty of opportunities to boost your grade and give free points. If you took calc. in high school then you'll do good. If you haven't, go to the peer fellow sessions bc although she teaches, it's very face paced.
Nice lady, but not a good teacher at all. Explanations are unclear and hard to follow, and she breezes through subjects quickly. Most of the work is done outside of class in the form of hours and hours of webassign homework questions that you barely get a few days to complete that ends up burning you out instead of teaching you. Would not recommend.
Professor Dawson is quite literally the worst professor I have ever taken a class with. DO NOT take this class if you are not strong in math. She does not hand out any type of notes/packets to follow along with, and lectures the entire 50 minutes of the class. She is very passive aggressive and rude. Quizzes & Tests are on paper and extremely hard.
Shes a cool person but she does not teach just reads her paper of notes to you.
Literally just reads off her paper of notes for 50 minutes. So disorganized and extremely rude. Online quizzes, but paper tests that are nearly impossible.
Honestly, this course is pretty tough if you don't have prior knowledge of calculus, but she allows notesheets in tests. She is nice for the most part, but very inaccessible outside of classes. She is not good with accommodations, and will not allow you to make up tests or quizzes that you miss even if you have valid reasons or doctor's notes.
Should avoid taking this class if you can. Most people who take MA110 are taking it because they are bad at math and are required to take a math credit. She will make your life miserable and make it hard for no reason. She also never responds to emails and doesn't grade anything.
She is AWFUL. Avoid at all costs if you have no prior calculus experience. I would take anyone else, genuinely. Tests are impossible, lectures are uninformative, and you'll walk out of every lecture scratching your head because she just slaps problems on the board. I felt completely lost and unsupported all semester.
She was very nice but a TERRIBLE professor. She's good if you're a visual learner but terrible if you're a slow learner or if you're weak in math. She speeds through lessons and is not good with explaining. She's also terrible with responding to emails. My classmates were the only redeeming part of that class. Overall, I wouldn't recommend her.
I just finished taking this course and I barely passed. I failed every exam except the final. I'm already not good at math, but she made it worse. She's very fast-paced and explains things in a complicated way. She's not a harsh grader though—if you get a question wrong but approach it the right way, she will give partial credit.
She is funny and nice as a person but when she's teaching she can be a little harsh. She also goes really fast during lectures and often runs out of time while explaining concepts. Overall, she's one of the better options and she give a lot of partial credit. Test reviews are a little harder than the actual exams.
Do not take her unless you want to fail. She doesn't help you at all neither does she feel encourage to help the students she sees struggling
Dawson is not accessible outside of class and rarely responds to emails. Exams are much harder than the practice problems. There are over 40 homework assignments and they take forever. She only announces exams about a week in advance. I had to study so hard just to get a B+. Overall, I don't recommend taking this class.
