Easy tests so far. Watch some movies. Pretty biased.
Great Class. He is a good teacher and is helpful if you seek him out.
Good teacher, very knowledgeable, tests are pretty easy and straightforward if you take the time to prepare for them. mandatory attendance but class time tends to go by pretty quickly. interesting lecturer, and great choice of movies to watch. highly reccommended.
Very good professor, very intelligent and knowledgeable. Tests are easy if you study. Mandatory attendance. Lectures a lot, but is not boring - able to keep your attention. Great speaker. Uses power points but doesn't just read off the slides - just used for reference. Shows movies in class which is a nice break. Strong global knwlege! Must take!
Knowledgeable and interesting professor. The lectures are well organized and structured. Connects ideas to real life situations and makes the class easy to follow. Always available for help and responds to emails within an hour. The tests are easy and he makes sure that students learn from their mistakes. Take his class, you won?t regret it.
The course was on the Middle East and it included a lot of information. had to do tons of work for the course (readings, papers, exams) but overall learned a lot. definitely take this course if interested in the middle east
This was a summer class, more intensive than a regular one but it was enjoyable. the lectures were well organized and clear and the work load manageable. the prof managed to make things interesting and relevant
PPTs are from a teacher's bank. Gives a study guide but you need to read in order to do well on the tests. MC, T/F, and Fill in the blank with no work bank. The group project is easy and will bring your grade up if you do poorly on his tests. Knows his stuff but isn't the best at teaching. Just lectures directly from the PPT.
He knows a lot and throws tons of information at you. the movies (somehow relevant) and PPP(well prepared) help the class. the exams are relatively hard but he provides a study guide to make things easy. instead of a paper he asked for a group project which actually helped bring my grade up. I recommend the class but not at 8:30 in the morning!
the teaching is clear and he spends time explaining concepts which are difficult. the exams are easy as he gives study guides a week before each exam. no paper but a group project which is relatively easy. uncompromising n it comes to negotiating your grade but is a fair grader.
very easy class..
Great professor! He knows a lot and class is easy to follow. He gives a comprehensive study sheet before tests which makes it easy. You will learn A LOT in this class. My friends with other professors learned nothing compared to what I did. Definitely take him.
If you are good at memorizing, take this class, that's all it really is. I still know nothing about comparative government. Class is the most boring thing ever, no laptops. Slides are useless; if you miss a class he'll ask you to get notes from a classmate. I am horrible at memorizing so I got a 64 on the first test. Books not touched, don't buy!
this is the second class I'm taking with him and haven't been disappointed yet. spends a lot of time explaining if a student asks a question. the lectures are always posted online and he provides a study sheet for the exam. I got upper 90s for both my exams so far. take him you won't be sorry!
Pretty fair teacher. I had him for GLS 116. His course consists of powepoint lectures and a few movies. His tests are almost strictly vocab, so they're pretty easy. He lets you know everything that's going to be on the test. I would definitely suggest taking him.
Definitely not my favorite class or professor at Bentley. Powerpoints every class, which he basically just goes over. The 3 tests are extremely hard.
Super fast in responding to emails and willing to meet/discuss anytime about the course. the lectures are clear and powerpoints are posted online ahead of class. gives exam study guides and asks questions from there. Hates it when students text/chat online in class. no paper just a group work which was ok.
Most pointless class ever! I feel I could have learned soooo much more from someone else. Nice guy, a bit cocky. Asks for our opinion on the class and then shuts them down. Whatever, it's a requirement anyway.
His classes are a mix between ideas and real world. Learned a lot about Russia and neighbors. Easy going and helpful. At first he came across as arrogant but once you meet with him in person to discuss projects papers he really makes an effort to help. I?ll look him up for future courses.
Want to know how much the extra credit was worth? 4 points out of 600, which equals .66 of one point. If you have 2.7 (80), there's no way that .66 is going to bump you to a 3.0. Tests are all memorizing things that DO NOT matter whatsoever. Most pointless class ever. Find someone else. Ugh!
I got a 3.3 in his class and the extra credit (which is actually 4 points out of 100) bumped my grade up to 3.7 (out of 4). I can't see how the evaluator below did his/her calculations. the class is a bit dry but he keeps asking us for feedback. he's ok.
the course was on Russia and former Soviet states and it was interesting. a good mix of movies and a guest lecture. he knows his stuff and is always around to help out in papers/projects. take him
I took 2 courses (both 240) one was on Middle East the other on USSR. he knows his stuff. not only he knows the topics but supplements the lectures with anecdotes and personal experiences. opened up my eyes to a whole new world and a new way to look at those regions
spent a whole semester talking about different countries and their forms of government. it was interesting and full of fun facts. had 3 exams, the class average for the first two was low so he gave us the option of an extra credit to add 4 points on the final average just for submitting 9 questions. he listens and helps if you go to his office.
Based on the good reviews, I took him and don't regret it at all. I merely used the laptop and went on FB and such during class. I always crammed and studied the book. He gives a study guide for each exam, so you know exactly what to study. If you are good at memorizing, this is a really easy class.
This was a great class. He lectures on everything you need to know and gives you a study guide before each exam. As long as you pay attention in class it is easy to do well. There is also a group paper that encompasses the entire semester but it's not bad because you are in a 5 person group. If I could I would definitely take him again.
Awesome Prof! Exams were easy, just memorize the definitions of all the key terms (its all MC, matching, & fill in the blank). Stories are interesting & projects are easy. Definitely worth taking.
Really good professor. Always gives you a study guide for each quizz. You learn a lot of information that will be handy for your future life. I recommend him !!
Very rude and cocky. Asks for students' opinions in class just to criticize it. (but you must participate every class because its a big part of your grade as well as attendance). Did not end up learning anything about the subject. Quizzes were basically memorizing a million slides and confusing historicalgeographical material from book and ppts.
Long lectures using power points. quizzes are from the slides and the book. always got back to my questions on time and was available to meet with my group even rarely had discussions in class but mostly because the questions asked were from the book. easy grader but your have to work for it. always available and accessible.
A positively fair professor. You will know what to expect from him, grades and assignments wise, and all tests are fair-game (AKA from lecture and book). He is organized, is by no means a mean grader, and it is obvious he knows his government stuff. One of those professors whom I feel bad for when I fall asleep in the class. I highly recommend.
This was the second course I took with him and wasn't disappointed. always starts the sessions by collecting questions from students and then incorporates those into the lectures. Was available for my questions, even gave his phone # to the class to contact him.
Clear expectations, helpful professor. many opportunities to increase your grade if you don't do well on one of the assignments. gets excited when we challenge him and goes into long discussions. I enjoyed learning a lot on a topic I didn't know much about and thought might be boring.
Asbed is absolutely the man. Swears in class enough that it's kinda funny but not so much you're like "ok we get it you're cool". No tests, not even a final (Final is a simple group project/presentation/essay). 4 quizzes that're pretty tough but gives you a study guide. Powerpoints aren't super but he livens them up with comments, personal stories.
One of the most interesting professors at Bentley. His power points are brief, but always adds so much excitement to them. 4 quizzes which are each worth 10 percent of your grade, but he gives you a study guide. You have a couple of movie reviews and then a group project. Would definitely suggest taking him
Professor is a good guy. Class isn't hard at all if you do the readings, very straightforward of what is expected.
Very knowledgeable. I recommend taking any of his classes. You'll learn alot.
He is very knowledgeable and really pushes for participation. His grading system is quite straight forward. However, his quizzes are very difficult and at many times subjective. He has one big project at the end that requires a presentation and essay, but he completely destroys you if your content is not fully flushed. He is not an easy 4.0 imo.
This class is all about how well you can take notes in class because he power point slides are slim so you have to take notes when he talks.. 4 quizzes which are pretty basic if you take really good notes. Gives movie reviews and on the day of the movie you dont have to go to class. Project and paper as final. I would suggest him, he is a nice guy.
So, he is amazing and you can get a great or at least decent grade in this class if you do all the movie reviews (which he doesn't seem to actually read) and explain yourself in the presentation/paper, even if you don't do super well on the quizzes. Would def recommend to anyone who wants a little grade boost.
4 quizzes (with study guide beforehand), 4 movies and a group project. Enjoys it when students participate. Lectures are predictable and to the point (w powerpooints). A lot of travel stories and global experience. Definitely take his 102 and 262 courses.
Very rude and unfriendly.
Kotchikian is fairly rude to students and requires participation despite insulting the students that participate. Although the class is fairly easy to get a 3.7+ in, I would not take him again.
He's a pretty solid guy but make sure to know what you're talking about before you speak. He genuinely wants his students to learn which was unfortunate because I had him at 8am when I was half asleep. Overall, it was a decent class and I'm glad I took it. No final. No tests in class. only online quizzes. recommend for gls102
He really wants students to participate but make sure you know what your talking about. met with him 3 times to discuss group project and he was very helpful. made the effort to meet outside of office hours. knows a lot
always available (on and off office hours). a lot of stories, sometimes funny, uses swear words but not in a vulgar way. helped a lot with our group project.
energetic, funny and informative lectures on the Middle East. he engages us all the time. grading is relatively easy but you need to put effort on the group project. a lot of personal stories about work and travel around the world
Easiest 4.0 I've ever gotten. Hes very knowledgeable and clearly has many relevant life experiences. Class work is really easy. Hes actually a really pleasant and funny guy.
He is the man! Grading structure is 4 Movie Reviews, a Take Home Essay, and a Group Project. He really knows his stuff, so try not to bs your way to a 4.0, although its fairly easy to get a 4.0. He is very helpful outside of class, and really helps you strengthen your group research paper. He is a must take professor for GLS.
TAKE HIS CLASS!!!!!!!!! You will pass with a 3.7/4.0 GPA. Five movie reflections and four take home quiz and you don't need to go to class when it's movie day or quiz day. HIGHLY HIGHLY recommend!!!!!!!!!!!! TAKE HIS CLASS!!!!! The easiest class I've taken.
Extremely blunt but also knowledgeable about everything you talk about. He tells you what is on the online quizzes but can still be tricky and there are 5 movie reviews which are easy 100's. You also have no class on those days. No final exam or any exam (just the quizzes) and one huge group paper. Participate and he considers that while grading
Evening class but he made it interesting and active. very engaging and fun class. always around for questions and helped with our group paper a lot. definitely will take him again
easiest 3.7 I got. has over a dozen grading assignments (quiz, movies, group project) so even when I bombed the first two quizzes I managed to make up for it in other assignments. always available for feedback (after class, office hours or even by phone). definitely will take his other classes.
an evening class but managed to stay awake. uses powerpoints but reading helps for tests. he enjoys when we participate in class and is laid back. missed a quiz but he counted my other quiz twice. overall good class and prof.
Easy 3.7, no reason to get below 3.3. No classes when u have to watch documentary or take quizzes online on your own (10 classes). Very blunt guy but just participate and he will like you. He provides you with all the tools to do well on quizzes and the final project is a long (13 page) team essay. Use his suggestions and u will get 85-95 on that.
Great guy who knows a lot about what he is talking about. Gives little amount of work, a few movie reflections which you don't meet the day of the class they are assigned and he barely grades them, and quizzes that are done online. Participation to him matters, participate when you can, do the reflections and its an easy
Wasn't planning on taking GLS 102, especially at 8 am on a Friday morning. But he's a great teacher and makes class interesting and it's almost impossible to get below a 3.3. I definitely recommend!!!
While Professor Kotchikian was nice with giving quizzes and film assignments on Fridays so we didn't have to go to class, he was pretty rude during class. Basically he would demand participation, then roast the students that did participate. I would not say this class is an easy 4.0, but you should get a good grade if you do well on the quizzes.
Had us write an 800 word essay on readings for every class, which were randomly collected every 5 papers or so. This was SO much work but did force you to read. His lectures are enjoyable as he talks about his experiences/what is currently going on. I think he boosts grades at the end because I never participated once but got a 4.0 in the class.
Very organized lectures, intersting discussions. demands participation and discussion in class. he gives group projects and provides feedback before submission.
60% of your final grade is based on 4 online quizzes throughout the semester. very knowledgeable guy with interesting experiences, but comes across rude in class when students answer a question incorrectly, and criteria for final paper VERY unclear.
graded by 4 HARD quizzes based off lectures, 5 movie reflections, and a group paper. showed up to every class and got a 60 for participation.
Do NOT take his class. Professor Kotchikian makes you participate and when you do he is completely rude and condescending. When you try to justify your response he shuts you down and makes you feel like an idiot, which I'm pretty sure is the complete opposite of what an instructor is supposed to do. His grading is completely subjective.
This was a morning bomb but the professor kept the class engaging and relevant. He added a lot of fun facts and statistics to explain the topics being discussed.
the teacher gave a lot of real world examples by talking about what was going on in the world at that time. for the group projects, we had to learn details about countries we were assigned to, which was a great learning experience.
The class was pretty easy overall. A few movie reflections, four online quizzes you could take at home, a group project, and a group research paper. When classes are over, he's the first one out the door. It's really hard to get ahold of him outside of class but just email him. No midterms nor finals. Would recommend taking him.
Morning bomb but enjoyed all the classes. made each lecture interesting and whenever possible, full of discussion.
This is the best social studies professor I have ever met. I took the winter session and probably it is the easy one. The four quizzes is very cleared explaining in the study guide. I highly recommend this class!
While the work was overwhelming (winter intensive class), the instructor engaged the students in discussion to make sure we got a thorough understanding of the subject.
Loved this class, even as a morning bomb. Super engaging discussions and he always wants to hear what students have to contribute to the material. No midterm or final exam, solely 4 quizzes online in addition to a final group paper and a couple movie reflections. No class on day of quizzes. Really passionate guy about the subject, 100% recommend.
He is the worst professor I've had in my life. He is disrespctful and rude. He gives long lectures with out any kind of student interaction. Gives a lot of homework and grades toughly. He grades based on how he thinks of you. He does ont accept any late work. I believe he should not be allowed to teach any more.
Took 2 courses in the same semester and loved them both. Laid back, informed but demanding. Before switching to online, classes were interactive and full of discussion on current issues. Always available for feedback and even setup a late office hour to accommodate my teams time zone.
He presented information in an interesting way which kept me paying attention. Also, the movies shown in class were interesting and correlated well with the material we learned. I enjoyed the fact that it always seemed like he knew what he was talking. Anytime anyone posed a question for him, he always had a reasonable answer.
There was a lot of great info, and I really feel as though I learned a lot about the Middle East in a non-biased manner. The professor is obviously very knowledgeable about the entire world, and is able to answer any questions that come his way. I liked the fact that our reading assignments covered the history of the countries or topics we studied
Loved the interactive nature, asks a lot of questions from us and interacts with us. aside from just providing facts, he also gave his opinion when he felt it was necessary. interesting subject, knowledgeable teacher. Final project was a good way to solidify what was learned
I took this class because Im really interested in politics so, I was expecting this class to be engaging and very interesting. I felt this class met my expectations and sometimes exceeded it. The professor really was on top of the material presented in class. The exams were straightforward and you do good if you study.
he has alot of knowledge on nearly every global topic so he is able to provide some great insight and we had some really good class discussions. Even though Im from the region I learned new stuff even on my home country
We covered very interesting information about different countries and learned facts I never would have learned without taking this course. Also, I liked that we went over recent and current news happening all over the world. I also liked that the lectures where supplemented with discussions and movies.
He always starts the lectures with interesting information to stimulate students thinking. He challenges us with questions that youd think are easy but then makes you realize they are much more multifaceted then you would first assume. I definitely have learned a lot about international relations and have enjoyed my time with him
The teacher would always ask students to explain what they said which forces them to think more about what they actually said and in turn helped them better understand the topic of conversation and why their answer would make sense. He relate what we learn in the book to current events. Through taking his class, I learn much more about politics.
I very much appreciate how the classs lectures are interspersed with questions that require genuine critical thinking rather than just checks of knowledge about random trivia. He brings excellent personal insight and experience that helps deepen the context of the class. Also, the film Waltz with Bashir hits like a freight train.
the class structure is extremely well with not too many quizzes and exams. He is very knowledgeable about the topic and passionate about the region as well. Provides a lot of real life examples and allows questions to be asked regularly.
Friendly professor. The course was structured in way that made it so no single assignment carried a large chunk of the weight for the final grade. He added fun facts that related to the course and helped us stay engaged. I also liked how the class kept me more up to date on current international events than I usually am.
I dont care for politics but I loved the professor as he made the class interesting and made me want to learn about different countries. I liked how the assignments were broken up and how he is always willing to give feedback and accommodate students. Also having a lot of discussions in the class increased student engagement towards class.
Way too much work to be a GLS class. He knows a lot and class is very interesting. If you just want an easy gls class don't take this one. You have to do comparison papers (800 words) of every chapter that are collected randomly. Tough grader on group projects as well. Overall nice professor, but you have to put in work.
He has a dry sense of humor always keeping the class entertained. The students were free to talk, ask questions, and share their experiences. I actually wanted to come to class because the professor explained things well and didnt completely lecture us to the point of putting us to sleep.
I enjoyed the movie assignments and the intense discussions. I thought the professor put a lot of time into choosing films to properly fit the material that we were examining in class. It gave another perspective of the information and examples. The material that was on the quizzes was for the most part covered in class.
Very interesting class. The prof. is extremely passionate with what he teaches and goes out of his way to explain and discuss each country. Talking about current events made me feel like im more connected to the world, and it was good how he would always ask us to read the news because I downloaded an App. and picked up the habit to stay connected
Hard, but worth it. I got so drawn into his lectures that I just can't put my mind elsewhere during his class. Although I'm not getting the good grades, I'm actually learning and that is the most important aspect to me.
Avoid this professor. I was fooled by the false reviews that he has clearly given himself. The worst!
Its sad because he is interesting, but his grading is skewed so low which makes him a poor choice. Avoid.
Do not read any good review. I was manipulated by those. He is a fun professor but very tough grader. He doesnt give extra credit and he is tricky. Exams are tough and he doesnt change your grade. Movie reviews a lot and the group project is the worst. AVOID HIM.
Prof K is a real one. Brilliant guy, fantastic teacher, funny, super knowledgeable and always establishes a good rapport with his students. For assignments we only had five short movie responses, a take-home essay midterm, and a final presentation. All were graded pretty generously. 10/10, would take again!
I don't get the bad reviews about him. True he is a tough grader but he is super fair and provides plenty of grading assignments to make up for ones we don't perform well on. Always willing to listen and help and always available.
Took this course as an elective and was planning on turning off the video during class time and work on other stuff, but from the first lecture his passion to social justice and information about hte world captured me. Always gives study guides before quizzes and stays online after class to meet with students to talk about their projects.
The grade is broken down between 4 quizzes, 5 movie reviews, and a group paper and presentation. The movies are super interesting but you have a short turn around to write a review. Good class but if you are looking to take an easy gen ed this isn't it.
Makes sure you know what he expects. Teaches well and cares about students, gives lots of opportunities to ask questions. Very lecture heavy. A few quizzes where the information is straight from the book, and one group project thats not too bad. Easy GLS course.
The class is made up of quizzes, movie reviews, and a group final presentation and paper (he lets you pick your group). The quizzes and movie reviews are fairly easy. He can be a bit rude sometimes and has a rude attitude at times. If you are in his bomb, as soon as he finishes the slides he will let you leave.
He would assign a 2-3 page paper each week. A slightly tough grader. The final is a short presentation to the class on a country in the Middle East. He also made us watch 2 movies and write a paper on them. Overall I liked his class/thought it was interesting. Not hard to get an A, just have to do all the work/on time and be a decent writer.
