I had an A half way through cause I took a Accouting class in High school, but then he became very unclear and very boring. He is not a bad teacher if you like lecture. But he was hard.
Ash will make you learn the stuff whether you were going to from the start of class or not. He's one of the hardest professors at NCC. He is willing to take the time to explain it to you after class or during office hours. Tests are reasonable but you need to study a LOT! An A is reasonable.
Ash is a very good teacher and explains things so you can understand them. I took this class before from someone else and did not get it and I could understand with him. The class is tough and you have to go to lecture and keep up with the work to do well.
Good teacher, explains things very thoroughly. A lot of homework and tests can be hard though. He is very nice and is willing to go over things until you understand them. But, when he gets frustrated that the class is not doing as well as he thought they would, he will say things like "why would you do that" and stare off wondering what went wro
Not helpful, gave quizzes without time to learn material
Very good teacher, he is good at explaining everything that is going to be on the tests. He give homework and quizes but they help a lot with your grade and with your understanding.
Very good teacher, obvious experience in the field. Howeverwhen you have been worn down by the other teachers in the business department, or need further explanation on items he is impossible to learn from. He will not accept mistakes and when you have a question it needs to be specific. Overall great teacher but i had difficulty with his style.
Ash is a very good teacher and helps you to understand material that is difficult. He explains it way better than other teachers I have had in this subject.

very easy class. the teacher knows how to explain things that you can understand them and do not need read book anymore. it's easy, just time consuming.
I tried really hard in this class, but I had to drop to keep my GPA. He is nice if you understand it quickly and don't ask questions. Numbers may not be my thing, but he could have been a better help. I asked him for help many times after class and he would basically make me feel like and idiot and I went away feeling just as lost as before I asked
I learned very little in the class- I found I had to teach myself if I wanted to do well in the class. Partly because of his teaching style, partly because the subject material is profoundly boring. Anybody who found the class easy: it wasn't becasue Patel was easy. It was because those people have a natural knack for accounting.
Not only is he a good teacher, he is a great guy. His English is not perfect, but is very understandable. He is very knowledgeable in the field and worked in public accounting for numerous years before teaching. If you are willing to put in the time and effort, you should have no problem with the class.
He even said he is the hardest grader at Normandale! Insane amounts of homework and time expected from him. I had a 3.5 going into his class, and earned a C afer I spent 12 hours a week studying outside of the 12 hours of class time. Does not teach material before assigning; he only teaches after homework is due.
Attend class everyday or you will get behind!!! He's a good teacher but challenging.
nice friendly guy; multiple choice questions are often very difficult
He is a very good teacher. He does his part by explaining the material and then do your part - work hard to do well in class!
hes crazy dont ever take him.. very hard teacher. pop up quizzes and hard tests. warining you!!!!altho explains things slowly but clearly.
The worst teacher I ever had! I wouldn't take a class with him again. Very unprofessional (shows up to class late, doesn't email back). His tests are also very difficult and must studying and learn information yourself. Please don't take this teacher!!!
He is a very hard prof. but if u get a b in his class, u will have a very good foundation for life. you also have to do your part by studding and showing up to class.
Hard Grader. Tell his class it will be one of the toughest classes you will ever take. terminology is very different in class than in the book. skipped chapter 24 but tested on it. wouldn't recommend him.
I had to drop because he doesn't speak english very good. Late everyday for class. Nice guy and will give breaks on homework. His grading is the hardest i have ever had. We started with 60 people in class, at the end before i dropped, there were only about 15 people left.
I didnt do well in the class but he did help me through it. I worked hard out side of class and didnt do well. I think it didnt help I had a night class. I would recommend him if your 100% dedicated.
Not punctual at all. Always late. Hard grader. Handouts are very poor. Does not email students back at all. Attend him everyday or you will get behind!!! Tons of homework! Tests are very hard. You will write quizes every class. Guys if will get B in his class you are set for life! Good luck! :)
None of my classmates had trouble understanding his english!Take him if you are 100% dedicated, accounting is your major and you truly want to learn!THe best teacher!Very thorough, clear and encourages questions!Lays a very strong foundation & easy to understand!
tells u exactly how to go about! I would take his class in a heartbeat coz you'll truly learn and get an insight! but if you just want an easy A and are doing this just for a requirement stay away because its a lot of study hours and workload outside class!Definitely not an easy 'A'.
Very Tough Class, Took it in the 1st Summer Session and Passed with a B. Must go to class in order to understand, quizzes are not that hard, but tests are tough, put about 12 hours outside of class for homework, could have put more and got an A though. Class started with about 28 and had about 16 people when it ended.
Very hard class, he is always late, and attendance is mandatory. His quizes are somewhat easy, and his tests are tough. Homework is a must do in order to understand topics, and are very long. He does not accept late assignments, even if absent the day they are due> i simply do not recommend him for any reason, unless it is your only class.
Good class to take if you really want to learn accounting. Can be hard if you are lazy and dont do the homework or goto class, he will help you if you ask for it. Not an easy A, but a good instuctor.
Ash is great! He is not an easy A, in fact the majority of students are happy with a B or C. I found him very insightful and helpful in class. he goes over material slow enough for anyone to understand. If you do not od your homework you will be LOST, so keep up and earn your A!!
Ash is a great teacher if ur willing to put in work/time.. u must show up to class every time or else u will get sooo lost.. test r very hard, but if u listen in class and do the HW, you'll do fine.. make sure to do HW, very useful.. VERY... this class isn't an easy A, but for accounting majors, this is the BEST teacher
Take him if you are 100% dedicated, accounting is your major and you truly want to learn! THe best! Very thorough, clear and encourages questions! lays a very strong foundation & easy to understand! but if you just want an easy A and are doing this just for a requirement stay away because its a lot of study hours and workload outside class!
Don't EVER take a class w/Patel. He speaks softly & he's often late. His syllabus had nothing re attendance or missed test policy, but he would be mad if you missed tests & wanted to retake-even in family emergency cases. He doesn't help much in class & yelled if the class wasn't with him. NEVER answers e-mails & very slow to grade tests. Skip him!
Do not take Patel unless you have a strong edge on Accounting. VERY, Very tough Class. Heavy work load and lots of time needed outside of class. Lots of notes, if you get lost and you will fail. No sense of humor or compassion. Weekly quizzes are hard, if you don?t have everything memorized you will fail or just pass. This class has a major drop, w
Took the accel Acct II summer course. Wish I had taken his Acct I and the reg. Acct II. Necessary to do the homework and really know the subject. Tests are college level/challenging but will prepare a foundation for later courses. Offered insight to real world questions, and included useful info. Not as responsive outside of class. An asset to NCC.
Demanding instructor, only take if you intend to be an accountant. He will help you if you first prove to him that you made an effort. If just a requirement for another major Take Mary Ellen Seth, she is much more helpful.
Good teacher. Takes some getting used to dry sense of humor. He really wants you to succeed. Do what is asked, and you'll do fine. Difficult but not impossible.
Honestly, not a bad guy here. Outside of school, I'd be his friend. But be his student? Never again. Extremely difficult class with an unfair amount of busy work. If you have a good grip on accounting and need the class, go for it. I'd recommend either online or a different professor though if you're looking for a "good" experience. Otherwise no.
Ash is one of the best teacher I experienced at Normandale. I took both ACCT 1 and 2 with him, and laid wonderful fundation! His hw and tests are helpful as well. Highly recommend.
Ash will make you thoroughly learn the material. If you are planning on an accounting major, he will assist in prepping you for the accounting field. His tactics are questionable at times and he also displays somewhat of a short fuse occasionally. If you want to know the material inside and out, take him!
I will never recommend someone to take a class With Ash Patel. He is mean, rude, not a good listener. There is usually a random quiz two minutes before the end of class. A lot of homework, very hard quiz and tests. You get lost when you use the text book. If you miss a class or test you are doomed. NEVER take his classes. 10 students in his class.
took this class online. i got A's on all 4 exams worth 100 pts each. A's on 10 pt quizzes that total 50 pts. I didn't do any homework which adds to 50 pts. In the end, i got an A for the course even though i should've gotten a B
great teacher if you really enjoy learning. don't take the class for an easy grade. show patel that you really care about learning and your grade and he will see to it that you succeed. genuinely cares about his student's success!
I really thought Ash was a great instructor. I thought he used a lot of his real life examples when teaching. He's not an "easy A." But it's not difficult to earn a good grade as long as you do the homework. I will be taking another class from him this fall.
His exams are easy if you understand the material well. However, he spends a whole class to explain homework. It's just a waste of time because you can come to his office and ask for helps. He also lets you go early too. He doesn't cover everything in the books too. Not recommend him!!!
If you are an accounting major and are interested in the subject i would recommend taking him. If you just need the class as an elective I would try and find someone else. The class is challenging and is a true test of your knowledge. The way he teaches can be confusing at times but manageable as long as you go to class and do the homework.
Great professor. Really clear in his explanation and helpful when you need help. Definitely a challenging class but if you want to major in accounting this is definitely the class/professor to take!
He is a horrible teacher. He goes way to fast. When it comes to tests you need to memorize all of the criteria and formats. You can't even read his handwriting on the board, it's so sloppy. Also his practice problems for the chapters never match the actual homework assignments so then you're completely lost.
Ash is not an easy teacher, but he knows what he's talking about. He's not the type teach you a specific way to do a problem. There's often more than one way to get an answer, depending on your approach. He's a bit slow to respond to e-mail, but is good about office hours. You'll need to study and work through all HW assignments. Be prepared.
Very difficult class, but accounting is not my forte either. Quizzes and tests are extremely difficult to take in time allotted. Does offer some extra credit. Must grade on a curve but doesn't say so. I passed with a C barely. I worked hard on the hmwk and studied for the tests. I felt like the hmwk and tests were from 2 different classes.
The homework assignments don't always go along to what he is teaching in class, Usually only grades one problem from all the homework which is annoying if you did the rest of the problems except for that one because you didn't know how. Schedules office hours to which none that I could attend because the times are horrible.
Immensely knowledgeable. If you don't understand content ask. He will further explain. Makes time out of class to help students. Must attend lectures to understand content.
This class is terrible. It is four hours long and Ash lectures incessantly for the first 2-3 hours of class. I am done with the semester next week and can barely use tax software because he hardly teaches it in class. Huge emphasis on tests and homework. Homework takes about 7-10 hours per week (no exaggeration) and tests are extremely hard.
His classes are hard! He does not reply to your emails on time and is rude in class. He tells the class to ask questions but doesn't like to answer them. He is impatient and always in a bad mood. Tests are tough and you have to make sure to do the extra credit.
I think he is a good guy, good heart, you can tell he's trying. He knows his stuff like a textbook. You can see him go into his head when he is explaining anything. He is very knowledgeable and a good wealth of information, however, he is not a teacher. He will not get you excited about accounting. I will not take him for another accounting class.
He knows what he is teaching and can tell you the answer right away. But if you ask a question he'll raise his voice and ask you what you don't get. He has a sense of humor but can use it at inappropriate times. Some of his "humor" is used to put down others. As long as you stay quiet, read your book, follow directions you shall pass the class.
You will need a textbook! The content is difficult, which makes sense since it is income tax. However, he is very knowledgeable on the subject because of his previous experience. He isn't very accessible outside of class. In fact he shows up late to class every week. The feedback from quizzes and homework is very helpful though. Although he doesn't collect homework, it helps a lot to do it to understand the material
This was the first class I've had to withdraw from. 4 tests are each 20% of your grade and there are NO MAKEUPS. I took this class online and had issues with my computer and missed a test and two quizzes. Absolutely no chance to recover. Withdrew so it wouldn't affect my GPA and will be taking it again with a different prof. DON'T EVEN CHANCE IT!!
Ash was a terrible teacher. He lectured for only 15 minutes on the entire chapter and then we were left to do the homework outside of class. Rely on the textbook to figure out what is going on. His tests are extremely hard as wells as his weekly quizzes. Homework is usually really long, but mostly graded on completion. Grade is based off of tests.
Ash Patel is the most terrible teacher I have ever had. He spent majority of time going over homework solutions repeatedly. He spent little time on the lectures and expected students to understand material from the books by themselves. What is the point of being in the class for 4 hours one night a week? He doesn't want to help students success.
if you are knowledgeable to teach yourself and have some background knowledge then yes take it cause the exams are 80 percent of your grade, but I didn't know much about tax and it was extremely difficult for me to understand the material. I recommend choosing a different teacher that will actually go over their exams.
I took this class because I live far away from campus. Accidentally submitted quiz instead of going on to next question. Resulted in a test score of 20/100. Emailed her right away, and she responded next day saying could only retake on campus within 5 hours. which was not an option for me. Does not participate in class, expects you to be perfect.
Ash is a phenomenal professor. He is one of the best professors at Normandale. Do the homework and rework the homework and you will be successful. He is clear and concise in class. Take notes and this class will be great for you. He teaches you about the basic accounting principles and sets you up for success for other courses! Ash is the best!
Ash was fine. He definitely knows his subject material. He could improve his course through finding a way to make the material more relatable. He also does seem to be reasonable in terms of grading, if you do the work and put in the effort he does reward that, but be prepared to be your own advocate.
75% of Ash's grading is exams. Unfortunately, the average for his exams hovers around the 50% mark. Most of the lecture is simply him reading from his Powerpoint slides. Once again the caveat is that he doesn't take attendance until you leave the class. He is also the only professor that teaches this class...
I would strongly advise you to reconsider taking his online courses. Patel seems like a very capable prof but rarely communicated with his online class. No discussions are open for questions to be asked about material and he did not respond to any of my emails during the semester. If you understand the material you will survive, barely.
This guy is the worst professor Ive ever had! He didnt even realize he was using the wrong textbook until class had started! One of the students in class knows more about tax than he does. So many have dropped! I just found out I can take the tax class at Century and it transfers to Normandale. Its online and SO much better! My friend took it!
Im surprised this guy teaches at Normandale! He has a horrible reputation at the school. I wish I knew how bad he was before I took him. Take the advice of the 4/10/19 review of this professor and take it online at Century and save yourself from a horrible experience. Im sad there are such low quality teachers we get stuck with :(
My tax class was the worse thing I have ever experienced! It was until 10pm! He does not reply to your emails on time and is rude and annoyed in class frequently. He tells the class to ask questions but doesn't like to answer them. He is impatient and always in a bad mood. He also never replied to a single email. SO HORRIBLE! I am so disappointed.
I took tax class this man. He get mad when you ask question and do not teach well
This professor teaches like his students are supposed to be Accounting experts. He experts you to learn how to do things without giving the proper tools to succeed. All of his tests are timed, and it doesn't give a student enough time to do the work to find answers. He gets annoyed when you ask too many questions. Don't take his class!
This was the worst class I've ever taken. Yells at students, and only a few things to be graded off making the test and quizzes extremely important. That would be fine if they were easy but they are not. Insanely hard class
Ash is one of the best professors we had this semester for computer application. he really cares about students and lectures are so good. I wish he could teach another course too. you will learn every single part he teaches.
Awesome professor, very funny, lots of jokes. But it's a serious class pretty hard. Lots of reading, homework isn't graded so all your grade is quizzes and exams. But do the work and you can manage to pass, unless your some sort of robot
Seriously, avoid this professor. There is an online section by a different instructor. Most of our class was very unhappy with this man. Hes a nice guy, but not a good teacher.
This professor doesn't respond to emails. Don't take him for online classes. We need professors who are engaged and know how to teach online. There is no teaching going on here. I have friends with other professors in accounting and they are all better. I recommend avoid. There is no way I will take him for managerial or tax.
Fantastic teacher. Very reasonable and is there to answer questions. Quizzes are tough, but all of the information needed is clearly outlined in his lecture videos. During the Covid-19 crisis, he was very reasonable with expectations of students and was understanding with time constraints.
WORST professor ever. I only took this with him since it was my only option. Never responds to emails. Quizzes and tests are the only thing graded so if you don't pass them, you won't pass the class. Took online due to COVID and didn't have hardly any communication with this guy since he would not reply to emails. Avoid this prof if possible.
He is your average professor. I wouldn't take his class again though because he rarely responds to emails. He doesn't grade things in depth. He's honestly just a grader, not a teacher.
Never responds to emails. I got covid and he didn't respond to my numerous emails about asking for extensions. Gives bad feedback, 3-word responses at best.
Maybe he would be better in person but online 100% would not recommended. I took him because he was the last teacher available but I wish I wouldn't have.
The absolute worst teacher I have ever had at any level. If you have no other choice but his class wait until next semester and any other teacher. If you wait last min to signup for classes, he'll probably be the only one left with room and that's for good reason. Seriously he is really really bad and has no business teaching. You have been warned
The class is the hardest Ive taken in my 3 years of college. But the professor is incredible and will do everything to work with you and help in any possible way. I thought there was no chance I would pass this class because I had failed almost every quiz and test, but thankfully this professor worked with me through out the semester and I passed.
He was late (20-30 mins) to the two zoom meetings I scheduled with him, not tech savvy at all. Also, he didn't add anything to the material, just ripped it straight from the publisher. I would avoid him if possible.
Says to ask questions then gets mad when students ask questions. Doesn't show any signs of understanding the concepts himself. If you need the tax cr for your degree, transfer out.
Runs the asynchronous online course terribly. No new content outside of a purchased Cengage course or lectures that are old and don't help with the course material, no engagement opportunities or discussions with other students. No D2L discussion boards or conversations facilitated by the professor to see student needs. No curving of tests.
His lecture videos were hard to follow (a video of him teaching a class). You can only see about 1/2 of the board because of the glare. He grants zero extensions and was generally hard to reach (my aunt died, and I asked for an extension on the homework and was denied after he didn't respond for a week). He also has a tight time limit on quizzes.
A real doozy indeed. Recorded lectures that are difficult to follow and monotone. Professor shows no personality, relatability, or willingness to help students understand material through real-life examples. Information conveyed to students comes directly from the textbook. Only graded on quizzes/tests. The best bare minimum there ever was. Next!
Not the greatest. Quizzes and tests are the only things graded. May not respond to emails as quick as you'd like. One of the hardest classes I've taken. Taking notes while watching the lectures and reading the textbook is a MUST. There aren't many examples and practice problems to work through which can make it hard to grasp the content.
Responded once to my emails, then never again. Horrible teacher. Never answered my questions. I got logged out of a quiz once half way though and couldn't do anything about it or change my grade because this professor never responds.Definitely wouldn't recommend him, I will never take a class of his again.
High expectation for personal study skills to succeed. There are homework questions for practice with solutions, but without any grade credit. You MUST take DETAILED notes, I recommend digitally, so that you can quickly find info during tests. Short time limit, cannot afford to get any questions wrong. Once you "hack" the studying, doable class.
Every test and quiz closes the first day that week, as a PSEO student I missed some because I do my work the days I'm not working. I tried to communicate with him asking for a different day because of my work and he took a week to respond and it was one sentence saying it my fault for not reading the syllabus. Frustrating professor to work with.
