She is very lazy. Comes in late all the time. Speaks low with an accent, very hard to hear. She wanders off on a tangent 95% of the time. At the end, she hits you with a ton of work. 4x 20 page papers and of that sort. Nazi with anthropology form papers.
It's true comes in whenever, GIVES YOU A REMINDER AT THE END OF SEMESTER OF WORK SHE NEVER EVEN MENTIONED basically does nothing all semester as well...stay clear

HER ASSIGNEMENTS ARE VERY UNCLEAR. HER LECTURES ARE IRRELEVANT TO WHAT WE ARE SUPPOSED TO BE DISCUSSING. SHE ASKS FOR HER STUDENTS TO PURCHASE SEVEN TEXT BOOKS AND NONE OF THEM ARE EVER NEEDED.

Not only is everything else true (always late, chronically vague, dumps a huge paper and a final on you out of the blue) but she dosen't grade the work you do and will then lose your grade happily give you an incomplete or a D.

I learned nothing in that class. She spent the whole semester talking about things that had nothing to do with the subject. Then she waits until the last 4 weeks of class to start teaching. The worse class I have ever had.
she makes you fast during rammadan....if you love to eat -do not take her.
She is an excellent Professor, however, if you do not like to write research reports do not take her class. I found the course material excellent and Matias helpful with information on many subjects.
Glad to see I'm not the only one that feels that way..she should be FIRED!She does not know how to conduct a college level class..Comes up with things I never heard of..I have not learned ANYTHING..Taking a class with her is a waste of time..

The Professor opened me up to information which enabled me to successfully re-evaluate the unhealthy ways I was living my life and how the medical world profitted from this unhealthy way of living. Lots of writing. Info recieved is priceless. After taking this class, I quit smoking (20 years).
Her office door says "lecturer" but i've yet to hear a lecture from her. I'm mad because i paid for this class and learned nothing. The dept head should be notified of this and all of her students be given good grades just for dealing with her.
this is the worst class ever, she is so unorganized and leaves all of the assignments for the last two weeks of class. find another professor to take this requirement with and dont waste your money on the books cuz i never even opened mine.
Definitely a snooze class and she always makes you sit in the U formation which is a pain in the ass but she doesn't ask for much. Her 10-20 pg paper at the end is really easy to do from the format she gives you and she misses out alot.
A very good lady and will always help you to pass her class. Accessible at all times.

Dont even think about taking this class unless you plan on wasting your time and money. She doesnt do anything throughout the whole semester but at the end she assigns 100 different assignments. I dont understand why she's teaching at a college, wait, did I say teach...she doesnt. Dont even waste your money on the books, she doesnt use them.
Samad-Matais is amazing and helpful!! Yes, she always late. And yes, you SHOULDN't buy any of the books for her course. However, if you do your work, have a great topic for your paper, you'll earn an easy A. Word from the wise...schedule her class as your last class of the day. I guarantee you'll be going home early for most of the semester.
Professor Matias was very helpful with her vast knowledge in various areas of study. She also was helpful on topics outside of the classroom for everday life encounters. She made me aware of how many vilations of human rights are out there. I appreciate her going out her way to get to keep us informed. I wish her the best. I highly recommend.

Don't list to some dumb and lazy people! Take any of her class and get an easy A. Don't buy all her books, or buy them at www.half.com. Very clear, just pay attention and you will be fine. If you ask for help, she will help you. Stay after class for 5 more min. and she will explain everything in details. Very easy. She knows a lot and I mean A LOT!

Pretty much all her classes are easy A's so if you just want to boost ur gpa and not learn anything she's the way to go. However, if you are sincerley interested in the course choose another professor. Also don't waste ur time and money on buying any of her books I gaurantee that you will not use any of them.
For some reason, she is very unorganized. She jumps from one subject to another. She doesn't make her assigments clear enough in class, the whole class is always up to her desk by the end of the class. If anthropology is not your major, then dont take this class.

I hated her class. I hated her. Nothing was ever going on in class...she didn't explain any of her assignments at all. She gave all this work and handouts but didn't make anything clear as to what she was looking for. Although she is very knowledgable, she could not teach. I wonder how she became a college professor. I thought she was great! She answered all of my questions, helped with any assignments I ASKED about. She is extermly intelligent.
Don't listen to any of the other ratings. Believe me this is an Easy A. Take it to boost up ur GPA. Not much HW and the ones u recieve are super easy. Just one major paper due at end and that is fairly easy to.

She was a great professor. Yes a lot of work was due at the end of the semester, but it was a lot less than a whole semesters worth of work for any other class. Only one paper, and one take-home exam. During the semester she will tell you specific things to write down once or twice a class. Those are the exam questions.

she gives a good amount of work there is like a 15 page paper but you have all semester ,article reviews and a take home final there is no midterm i got an A and bearly ever went because people can just write you in. Its seems like a hard class but its really not ,its an easy A

I went to frist day of summer school and droped her the next. She assigned 1 20 page paper,6 pgs mini paper, 4 interviews,8 article discussions,4 site visits need to know the map and so on, all this in 3 weeks. That was unthinkable, and yess she came in 15 minutes late to class but let us leave 20 minutes before. I recommend you DO NOT take her...
She is very disorganized! Her topic of the day is from out of the blue (random)-- the syllabus only exists in her head.. One day she gives out an assignment and right before its due, she will add things she NEVER mentioned before! Her class is total BS and makes it all the more unmotivating!

Very intelligent and interesting, very unorganized. Syllabus completely useless. Don't buy books. Has arrived 45 minutes late to class. Can be very helpful one-on-one. Assignments or exams that she say will happen may never happen and others will come up without notice. Not all actually need to be completed - almost impossible to tell.
I had high hopes for anthropolgy class b/c I had a vague idea of what that course was about. After taking it I can now say that this course has erased my enthusiasm. The professor's explanations are confusing, and she gives so much work and does not keep track of the class' progress. She is not a good teacher. She agitates me!
Not recommended for Anth majors. Knows her material well but has NO IDEA how to teach students. Frequently late, very disorganized/forgetful, hard to understand, adds/changes assignments randomly, and expects a ridiculous amount of work for the amount of effort she puts into teaching it. Completely useless professor. Unfortunately, she actually does know alot, but I can honestly say I learned nothing of what she knew. There was a syllabus but it was never followed and I also bought all the textbooks and ended up just wanting to take a flamethrower to them all because we never used them. If you get her, get the hell out fast.

This class was a joke. She gave us a huge amount of useless busy-work assignments and I feel like I learned hardly anything at all. She didn't even show up some of the time. She seems smart, and obviously knows a lot, but I wish she would put in an effort.

The7textbooks assigned are not used.Always arrives late.When she has nothing to teach(which is often)she puts on a film and leaves to her office.The films are often stupid.She puts no effort into teaching,evident by the assignments that are never returned or commented on.If you want to actually learn something,then don't take her class.

She talked through the entire final she gave us! 1 of 3 btw, one being a take home and the last part that she didn't bother to show up and for we had to wait 2 hours for her. She often forgets assignments/deadline. I like her as a person she's a wealth of info, just not as an instructor.

Unprofessional, unorganized, no lesson plan, does not follow her own syllabus, creates extra assignments on a whim, same final for all courses she teaches, no contact info. Is very knowledgeable, but not everyone who is knowledgeable can teach. You learn nothing. Good Professors are struggling to keep and find jobs and she is employed and teaching.
I am SHOCKED by how judgemental students may be!!! This professor is one of the best I've EVER had at CCNY. Just because she is lenient/flexible with due dates doesn't mean that she is unorganized. TERRIBLE. This professor knows everything about the world, but is terrible at organizing it into a classroom setting. TOO MUCH WORK (10-20 page research paper, 10 article reviews, 10 interviews, 4 site visits, 2-4 page paper, 2 final exams and a million other little assignments). VERY UNORGANIZED.
DONT TAKE. Very knowledgeable but can't teach. Tons of last-minute assignments and EXAMS with no prior notice (in addition to the other extensive projects assigned). Came to last class for a final and she told us we had ANOTHER final and 3 short papers (based on books we didn't read) due in a week (DURING EXAM WEEK). TERRIBLE>

This class is easy to pass if you do the work. You need to ask her a million questions about deadlines on the first day and make sure you write them down. She accepts late work as well. She assigns alot of work and does not even remind students about it. You have to read A LOT so make sure you work with a classmate and split the work.

She is the worst professor I have experienced. She doesn't ever have a lesson plan, we take no notes, she shows movies that sort of relate to the topic. Assigned 6 textbooks we didn't use. Assigns an excessive amount of work. 4 site visits, a 10-20 pg paper, 4 interviews, a healing remedy, a traditional food recipe, a 2-4pg expose.
Easy as long as you participate. Do your wallet a favour and do not buy the books. If you really want to buy a book, buy the one that you'll write about. She's not very focused but very knowledgeable. Kinda anti-Western, so a little progressive. If you like easy going but smart professors, then is perfect.

Take this class for an easy A. You don't even have to show up. Just make sure you hand in everything by the end of the semester, make it look nice, make it look alot and you'll get the A. Piece of cake!
Very disorganized. No syllabus with a breakdown of what would happen on a weekly basis. The assignments were given out of the blue. You can hand in work late. Its easy to pass the class as long as you do the work and show up. She requires that all homework have a specific outline format. Easy A but you wont learn much about the topic.
Even though, the professor is a nice individual and very intelligent, she is a very mediocre professor. If you ask her one thing, you'll most likely end up in a different conversation with her. She's that confusing! Her lectures also go off-topic. I felt I learned more from the textbooks. Plus, I didn't get a single assignment back.

She is a good person however she is not good at teaching. She has no clear syllabus and her lectures vary. She gives homework but doesn't really collect them. She will however give long assignments that won't be hard to. As for textbooks, you just need the first 2 for the assignments. If you wanna learn you might wanna just read the textbooks.

She gives a final exam yet you didn't learn much in her class. She is very knowledgeable but does not know how to teach at all.
Don't! Just don't! She is a very nice person but seems like she has no idea how to teach! This is not about "too much" assignments but simply about her abilities to teach. I did not learn anything from her classes (she randomly takes attendance so be aware). Her lectures are open and she seems to enjoy talking about the day to day news.
Don't expect to learn anything, but if you show up and do all the work, which is a lot btw, easy A.
Professor Matias is very experienced in her field and she passes that on to her students; she is a wonderful professor. Hand assignments in on time, actively participate, and put effort in to your papers and you will get an A (unlike many other professors who make it impossible to get an A when you do everything that was asked/expected of you!!!)

Professor Matias is a very intelligent woman, but all you do in her class is talk about current events. Desn't give you time to work towards the research paper and other assignments, which there are many of. No hard deadlines so work will pile up, must manage your time well! Got away with not doing a 15 minute presentation and still got an A.
SHOW UP PLEASE, talk current events, then she'll try to relate it to the class. 4 book summaries 10 article summaries 4 site visit summaries 1 research paper 1 essay and final exam. final is EASY! papers are easy, but take some time. SHOW UP! didn't hand in 2 of the book summaries and got an A. my papers were also poor quality

Professor really takes time to make sure you understand the lectures in class. Class is very interactive and knowlegeable. Just follow her criteria and youre good!
Awful! I had to drop the class within the first week. Want to know why? She waited until the last minute to give out the guidelines for all the required assignments (interviews, summaries and papers). It's too much work and you need ample time to get it done. It doesn't help when the professor gives out instructions at the 11th hour!
Completed nearly all assignments except 4 chapter summaries which were 20% combined and she gave me a C. Would you like to know why I'm not surprised? Well its because from Day 1 she and her syllabus were a mess and I was told by her former students that you must keep copies of your work because SHE LOSES IT and claims you never submitted it.
Hands down one of the worst professor's I've ever had. Clearly has no clue what she's doing, absolutely no hard deadlines, no lectures. I've learned nothing all semester. What a waste of time and money. DO NOT TAKE HER CLASSES.
Sweet older lady, but very unprofessional regarding organization and communication. My class received our syllabus a month after class started so what were we doing the first 4 weeks? Absolutely nothing. She tends to talk about everything else besides the class and before we know it, time has run out... TOO MANY ASSIGNMENTS, NOT ENOUGH FEEDBACK
This class was an absolute waste of everyone's time. Samad is unable to facilitate a class and relies on the class to teach. The first month of class was spent introducing ourselves over and over. This was the worst professor I have taken at CCNY in my four years here. BEWARE!!!!!!
AVOID THIS WOMAN. She assigns SO MUCH WORK just for it to be on Blackboard ungraded when there's a week left in the semester. She's always changing requirements and due dates on assignments. In class, you never understand exactly what you're supposed to be doing, and we spent a month talking about random current events instead of any lesson plan.
Professor Samad's classes are easy, but also a nightmare. I suggest not buying all the books in her syllabi, as you won't be even using any of the material. Most of her classes start with questions on what is going on in the news and then it becomes tangential. My course focused on Peoples of the Middle East, but we barely learned anything.

In an online settings she isnt very good at keeping track of deadlines, lecturing or grading on time. That being said it is a very easy class to pass. As long as you hand in all the assignments and complete it how she wants it done then youll pass. But Im not really sure if she actually grades the work or if she grades by whether you did it.

She focused more on current events & discussions about the news rather than actually teaching. We worked on one paper the entire semester & her directions were rather confusing, but she wouldn't give feedback or be accessible outside of class. There was never anything presented to us & she'd sometimes be rude when it came to answering questions
Her class is not what it sounds like. She will go off topic and talk about other things and current news rather than teaching what the name of the class implies. We worked on one paper through out the entire semester PLUS a final exam which was too much. Take the reviews seriously. Although she can be nice, she does not have the skill of teaching
The class looked as if it was structed well but she merged her worksheets with other classes so some of the questions had no relation with the assignment, you were left asking more questions than given. She is not going to respond to your e-mails, goes off-topic frequently. Although the class was tedious, I did somehow end up learning new things.
She is one of the worst teacher. Very bad professor. She is old to teach, should retire. She forgets a lot.

The professor passed away, cutting the class short with a tragic and abrupt end. While challenging, this course could have been rewarding if completed. unstuck study may have helped navigate the difficulties.
