He's alright as a teacher. Funny and kind of laid back. If you pay attention and take notes in class, you should do fine :)
He's a good teacher in Math Div. Funny and relax a bit, allow open notes during the exam. You wounld be able to pass this class if you pay attention and take a good note.
He's a great prof. really smart and knows his stuff...but you have to keep up on your part as well...pay attention and do hw!...he's funny..or tries to be..haha..sort of charming as well
This was not a really great teacher, his tests was not really based on the notes or hwk he went through, and he wasnt really clear explaining things. He would skip steps while doing examples on the board, and would expect everyone to catch on. If you have no background in MATH 5B don't take him! ^^
He's a pretty laid back professor and throws in a lot of sarcasm. He knows his math, but lets you use your book & notes for some exams. He requires you to correct your tests. Just attend classes, do homework & you should be able to pass. There is a high percentage of the grade from homework which can help or hurt you.
I'm a good student, I had to drop this class because I wasn't getting it and his lectures were useless to me. He made up tests at the last minute, they were too long and didn't reflect the material. His personality seemed ok at first but he was to narcissistic. Best look elsewhere if you aren't a math genius.
He is a great professor. =] really smart, funny, really cares about his students, very helpful. I highly recommend him to everybody who wants to learn the material and at the same time to enjoy themselves =]
hot, easy, funny and total helpful
He teaches. He give us homework, but his homeowrk is nothing compared to the test. His test is freaken long! Although you do have a cheat sheet too.
bad teacher. don take. lecture not clear.always skip steps when hes teaching. you couldn't learn anything from him.always laid back.during final time, rush, and hard. don't take.
he doesn't know how to teach. it doesn't look like he's really interested in teaching. gets distracted easily. his tests are pretty good, but he teaches very fast. HE LOOKS INTIMIDATING AND A PERFECTIONIST.
I had no interest in attending this class because I couldn't understand his teaching style. I ended up with a B in the class but only because I did alot of studying on my own. He spent most of class time talking to one of the girls in class rather than teaching. Final grade basically comes from hw, tests, and final with some e.c. opportunities.
he was very easy. take him if you want A. he does not really lecture but the material is in the book. do hw and ask questions, you will be fine.
Good teacher EASY... a lots extra credit.
oh my god. i can't keep my eyes off of him. other than being absolutely gorgeous he is extremely helpful and funny! he tries to be cocky and all that but deep inside he's a real charmer. cute smile too <3. anyways, i recommend you take his classes because he really cares about his students and does anything possible to help them. Very easy. =)
I wouldn't recommend taking him if you're not good at math. I had to drop. He is pretty clear but teaches as though everyone already knows the material. He does help you step by step if you are struggling. He sometimes he would show how math works in real life rather than just teaching it. Then he would have us do a problem on that same theory.
He is confusing but helpful; he would cancel class or have boring lectures and I got behind, but he really helped me get back on track. I couldn't stand him at first but he definitely grew on me throughout the semester =]
Too cool and laid back. I had to study by myself The thing is that he let's you go home early most of the time 45 min to 1hr early. And he cancelled class all the time
He's cool. I liked his class. Treat him with respect and he'll return the favor. I'm good with math so it was easy to pass. I recommend you read the book before each class. Homework is online and it's kind of tough to get in his office hours. Take the class seriously and the test won't be hard. Promise.
he is a great professor.he gives lots of extra credit.hws are online and most tests are online as well.he is a chill prof.his class is actually fun.
One word: LAZY He made up tests at the last minute, they were too long and didn't reflect the material. Let's you use notes and book for some exams, so students do not complaint. He wants you to correct your tests. LAZIEST PROF I HAVE EVER HAD.
he is a cool prof.hws/quizes/some tests are online.in class exams are easy.he is very funny.chill class.
Good teacher.
not the best class. Boring and goes fast through the book. gives quiz every week wich. 1st test was from the chapter test in book and quizes are from quiz on book but unless u know Math take him cause if you don't he will confuse you. I have a 4.0 and his class is definately going to screw up my GPA sucks. he seems lazy and arrogant
He is a very nice teacher. Ofent lost in his own world tho. But quiz and test are very easy.
He a very smart guy, one of the easy quiz professor I have ever seen in PCC. class was boring, but just make sure finish your homework, the exam will exact same as what you have done in homework. lots of extra credit.
WORST PROFESSOR EVER!!!!! Do not take unless you want to get more confused. The way he teaches is just lazy always using his laptop to write notes he uses MathXL which SUCKS!!! and seems to be the type that gets distured everytime you ask a question and when you do makes you look dumb.So please save yourself by NOT TAKING HIS CLASS!!!!
This is a difficult class no matter who you take. Dr. Asher is a good teacher, but you have to have to be strong at Math to begin with to understand him. He uses Math XL for homework and quizzes. Tests are very difficult. He puts his notes up on a blog. If you suck at math, don't take this class. I got an A in Math 125 & 131 and I just passed.
An alright teacher i guess. He cracks funny jokes quiet often. Was his 1st time teaching 7a, so it went a bit slow. Very strict with classroom rules.
He's funny and seems like a good guy but the lectures were a bit boring. I wish he had covered more and the final was WAY too long.
Doesn't lecture on the nuts-n-bolts of a concept. Simply picks the most arcane example he can find, then treats the class as though we've known this stuff for years and the material is review for us. I'm a straight-A math student so far, but I am learning nothing in his class, and will drop it before the 1st test. I'm lost! Avoid him.
Although he sucks at teaching, his class is not that hard. HW worth 45%, tests 25% and final is 30%. his tests are not tricky and we can use a small cheat sheet.
The tests are easy, but he is not helpful at all. He always skips classes and doesn't teach much.
Teaches from his laptop. He doesn't like gettin up to use the board. He expects you to tech yourself and he talks to you like you know the material. Avoid him
This guy jumps straight into theorems and doesn't care for basic concepts. If you are a calculus person without any prior knowledge of vector spaces-beware!. He is lazy and loves to use words like "trivial" tensor notation" "basis" etc. Writes in his little tablet and projects it onto the board and that's how he teaches. He wasn't a good teacher.
I took math 5a. His lectures were quite clear, and there were only 3 tests, including the final. He rarely took attentdance. Quizes and homework are online. Possible to get A if you study for the tests.
Only 2 midterms and 1 final. Lectures are quite concentrated. A professor cares about his students.
I suggest you to take Math 5C before math 10 with Shamam. His lectures are clear, sometimes boring, but most of the time intuitive and easy to understand. He can be too unorganized sometimes, but doesn't really harm you. Tests are easy, unless you only study from the previous tests from last year. Do the homework, it will help you!
As long as you do your homework, not just study the previous exams from last year, but actually learn the material, you should be fine. His lectures can be boring sometimes, but most of the time is okay, and sometimes can be intuitive. Nice guy, unless you broke the classroom rule.
Does all his lectures from laptop and goes into lecture notes from previous semesters. Uses examples only from the book never his own. If you enjoy teaching yourself the material he's the teacher for you because he discusses the material like if you came in with the knowledge of it. Good luck. Take him at your own risk.
I suspect all good reviews are from himself. He doesnt teach but write his blog during class. Often cancle class and end class much earlier than normal. Worst professor, if you do not believe, just ask someone who have atttended his class.
Possibly the laziest and worst math professor at pcc, is never in class, everything is online, does not go over work or homework, if you are good at math and teach yourself while doing lots of busy work online, enjoy.
Amazing teacher. Knows material in and out and will clarify when asked. Doesn't teach much out of the book, rather, instills the knowledge you need to do book homework. Laid back attitude, but serious about teaching and explaining the material. Be prepared to work and learn as he does not let you use a calculator for stuff that can be done by hand.
He is the worst, everything is online and when he is in class on rare occasion he might as well not be, he expects you to know the subject already, he is not a professor he is only a presenter.
Not a hard class or subject, but professor Shamam makes it a horrible expierience, he is no help and extremely lazy, skips out on teaching the basics. The only way you will learn is from yourself, a tutor or other classmates, save yourself the frustration and take ANY other professor. He is a nice guy but he should not be teaching period.
So glad to be done with this class, worst professor I have ever had, don't take him!
If you take a course with this professor make sure you do all the homework and online quizzes because there is no other way you will learn, he is no help.
If you aren't already great at math and actually want to learn, don't take this professor, if you do, you might as well go open your book and teach yourself, or get tutoring sessions( which you shouldn't need with any other professor) avoid him.
THE WORST PROFESSOR. All I can say is do not take his class. You will end up wasting your time and money. Avoid this professor whatever it takes.
If you are comfortable with learning on your own then you will do fine in this class, otherwise find another teacher. I only understood the lessons because of the online hwk & quizzes. Other than that he isn't a good teacher and is indeed lazy as everyone says.
Make sure you know what you're getting into before enrolling with this professor, he is going to seem easy at first but his laziness will come out later. It is not a hard subject so if you're good with math than you should be fine, I not I would suggest a tutor.
I took linear algebra and differential equations with him. For the complainers out there realize that when you get into a university level class a LOT of self teaching is expected from you. In that respect I believe his intent is to compel you to teach yourself. Verily when you get to a (good) university there will be no more spoon feeding.
Very nice professor. Easy to approach. Very helpful. He uses online lectures. Follow his rules. Study hard and do all homework he assigns, you will get an A.
worst
Dr. Asher goes so fast and expects students to comprehend immediately. He assigns lots of homework. Tests are tricky and too long. When he cancels class, a substitute with a difficult to understand accent is assigned. The textbook is badly written. Sorry I took this instead of Algebra 3.
While Dr. Shamam is nice, he's not good at conveying the info to students (had a diff. time learning anything from his class). His HW assignments weren't much help either (too many HW problems that didn't require much thought to solve). It wouldn't hurt if he created his own proof based Q's for us to practice on before exams.
If there is an award for "Least effort put in by professor", he would definitely be in the running. Cancels class all the time and makes it pretty obvious that he doesn't want to be there when he does show up.
Most of the classes were either cancelled or subbed (the subbed classes might as well have been cancelled). When he was there, the lectures were short, disorganized, and not very clear. Stat is not a very hard subject, but I would strongly recommend taking another teacher. The class felt like a joke.
The best professor ever. Most caring and flexible instructor I have ever had. Although he was sick during the semester, he assigned us the best sub teacher and attended most of the sessions himself. Most homework is online and exams are fair. Take him and do whatever he assigns and you will be fine. Enjoy the class since he has a cool personality.
AVOID AT ALL COSTS! unorganized professor, doesn't really seem to like teaching. doesn't show up most of the time, instructions were confusing and unclear that's if they were given. he's pretty chill but I didn't learn much from the class. If your major involves a lot of math I wouldn't recommend his class.
Avoid him - barely passed 'cus it was saved by a substitute mid-semester. I needed this class to transfer & without the sub take over after Shamam left I would have been deprived of math credit for transfer & would have gotten my acceptance revoked. I've never been so unsure, nervous & scared from a college course for all the wrong reasons
he's cute and i call him doctor :) his class is not bad at all.
I agree, he is a cutie. His lectures are not really lectures, which is good. He has you work out problems and if you have questions you can ask and he will help. He's also entertaining so class is not boring at all. I would take him again.
Just like everyone is saying, Shamam is an OKAY teacher. Homework was really weird, it's almost like he didn't really know what to assign. All our quizzes were online and the tests were extremely easy. If you ask him for help on the tests, he will basically give you the answer by telling you how to solve it. He was over an hour late to our final.
Highly wouldn't recommend unless you're willing to teach yourself or have taken this course before. Very bad at explaining problems and expects everyone to be on the same level. I've learned more from the examples that are given in the hw than in his actual class itself. Also VERY rude at times, calling students out on simple things he doesn't like
This guy is straight-forward and moves at a slow enough pace to follow. Sometimes I think he gets a little tripped up in his thought processes, but for the most part he is chill and gets the information across. Nice guy :)
Not a good Stats Professor just keep talking never actually explains anything. His tests are tough and he is super sarcastic and rude. He hand writes all of his power points so good luck reading that. Also all homework is online and the test are worded very confusing. Take a different professor if this is your last math course, I wish I would have
Hmw is easy and its done online. There were only 3 tests and the final. The tests have nothing to do with his lecture or the homework; at some point during the semester studying wasn't every worth it anymore. His lectures are boring and feel like torture. Half the class dropped, but he passed the ones who stayed with at least a C.
Not a fun class. He expected way too much and didn't take the time to explain things. Was very sarcastic towards peoples questions. Only people who passed the class, it was their second time taking the course. The test were completely different from the notes and what he told us to study. There's a lot online homework, book work and quizzes.
He isn't very well at explaining things and tests are very hard so if you struggle at math this isn't a teacher I'd recommend taking. I had to teach myself through out the semester and hw was all online so I had a hard time being ale to complete that. I was supposed to pass with an F but still gave me a C for showing up to class and participating
Such a nice guy and I actually enjoyed his class a lot (not sure why he has such bad reviews on here). He's super approachable and you're pretty much guaranteed an A if you do most of the homework.
I say that Dr. Asher is not an easy professor, but he's really high skilled in Math. If you are really into Math or math majoring, you have to take his course. In Professor Shaman's class, you are going to feel like taking really high and advanced math courses. In addition, he really likes to answers and makes student to think about it.
Excellent teacher. Does a great job at explaining things slowly, and repeating himself. Extremely patient, down-to-earth, and seems like he really cares. Very charming guy.
To be honest, he is pretty knowledgeable. However, being knowledgeable is different from having the ability to pass the knowledge to his students, and cancelling classes more than three times and rushing through first few chapter in a week or two is definitely not a good thing to do. Also, he tends to assume that we already know the term he use.
He will pass you as long as you show up to class at least 90% of the time. He assigns online homework (a lot of it). Very theoretical but does give you plenty of opportunities to get an A. He tells you what exactly is on the test (sometimes the same problem). Study what he tells you to study and do 90% of homework and you can get an A.
Shamam was 30+ min late the first day of class and cancelled at least once a week. He was rude and creeped on certain people. Shamam was VERY unprepared and his lectures and attendance only got worse throughout the semester. His tests were typically open book and always were allowed a 'Formula Sheet." TONS of homework+quizzes given online.
took him for Calc 3 and linear algebra. Didnt learn much but passed lol
30 min late to class on the first day. Cancelled classes, all hmwk/quizzes online however, it's A LOT of work. Lectured as if we were already knowledgeable in the material. Class is pretty much self-taught. The text book used is not helpful at all neither is the online program used (MyMathLab). Examples in book say things like "use technology."
Great Professor, definitely gives you the chance to pass regardless of your circumstances as long as you put in the effort. Higher level material of course, but you don't have to kill yourself with studying and homework as long as you tackle the concepts.
If you're majoring in CS or CE AVOID AT ALL COSTS!!! Linear Algebra is a hugely important part of mathematics, especially for those majors, and with this guy you won't learn at all. He gave us a different professors test for our final that was 12 questions. Most people answered 1 to 3 total. I answered 2 and got an A...
Late on the first day 20+ min. Hits on students. Assigns lots of homework. Grades leniently. Requires the online textbook in order to turn in hw. Has Ph. D but cant teach. He knows the material but cant convey them. Hold on to tests until the end of the semester. Allows test corrections. Find a different Professor.
the worst. easy A as long as you participate in class and attempt the homework. but if you actually want to learn anything dont take him
One of the worst profs I've ever had. Constantly late to class. Cancelled 6+ times. Very smart, but BAD at teaching. Does not let you take notes. Constantly walking out of the classroom. Does not return tests on time and grading is not clear at all. If you want to LEARN calculus, then take another class. You will be teaching yourself here.
this proffesor was great. had a lot of online homework but was always there to help if I needed it. tests and lectures were easy to follow, just pay attention because its easy to get lost. he is sweet, funny and a very leanient grader. cares a lot about his students. if you thought this class is hard you did not put in the work or pay attention.
Dr Asher is a quality professor. It's clear that a lot of the reviews on here are from haters who got a bad grade. He lets you use a cheat sheet, the textbook, and another test was even a take home. He's very lenient with due dates and just wants you to pass the class. You work with him and he'll work with you.
My only complaint would be that he did not lecture enough. He was clearly extremely knowledgeable, but if he did not find the topic interesting, he did not spend much time on it. When he did lecture or if you look at his lecture notes, you gain some extremely valuable insight to the topic.
worst prof ive had so far, had to teach myself everything. he mostly just sat there and told us weird jokes. everything is online on his own website please dont take him youll regret it
Professor Shamam is a great teacher. Before Covid pandemic, on campus lectures were very interesting and I did not feel bored and sleepy like I usually do with math classes. He makes you understand the concepts rather than punching and crunching numbers on a calculator. Very funny at times and he wants his students to strive success. Don't be lazy.
This is the only review you will need to know for him. If you want to learn; don't take him. If you want to pass; take him.
Take this class if you want to pass, dont take this class if you want to learn. You have to teach your self, all the homework, tests & quiz are on webAssign. All the answers are on chegg. Once again take this class if you want a easy A and dont want to learn.
If I can give this professor a 0. I would. Unfortunately, he seems like a great professor, but he cant teach at all. To be fair, he always answers your questions if you need help, but he will teach as minimal as he can. If you took calculus 1 a while back and forgot everything, do not take him. He teaches in a way, that you SHOULD know most things
This felt like a pretty easy A, but don't make the mistake of not putting in any effort at all because you will need to know some of the material. Exams were pretty simple, mostly based on HW. I think prof Shamam means well but comes off a bit brash. Also, lectures felt futile and you will be watching prof Socrates' videos if you want to learn.
Professor Shamam is very knowledgeable about the course material and cares a lot about the well-being of his students. Always allowed extensions on homework and encouraged group work. Homework, tests, and quizzes were posted on WebAssign. Lectures were not very clear at times but he was always available outside of class for help.
Very lenient with deadlines and he lets you know what questions will be on tests and quizzes.
you'll be teaching yourself here. must understand concept if taking in person class or you will get your cheeks absolutely obliterated on the final. i do not recommend taking in person, lectures are futile. all work is online. 16 weeks of hell is what this class felt like.
Great teacher, great class.
Avoid this professor at all costs, because he did not teach this online class at all, and all he gave is a youtube video of other prof. The exams are in class (even though is online) and its worth 40%! Quiz, hw, and final exams are worth 20% and its on webassign. So if you do take him, be prepared to study by urself.
What a joke. Imagine signing up to teach a class (along others) and bailing halfway through the semester. Who does he think he is? Easily one of the worst professors ever. If you end up with him, don't stress too much as he'll probably drop out and you'll get a better replacement anyway.
Surprised he's still employed at PCC. He doesn't teach, barely engages, and acts like he'd rather be anywhere else. It's confusing why he even signed up to teach if he clearly has no interest in doing so.
