Awesome teacher! Always positive and encouraging!! Wish he taught more classes because I had a blast!
He has a very quircky in your face style. And that keeps me focused and interested. He awakened a new interest in writing for me.

One of my favorite teachers ever! Awesome guy and totally got me into writing more. A lot of the writing is about having a personal connection with it. Totally have him as a teacher, he is awesome. I have taken two classes from him and I have learned a lot.
EXCELLENT TEACHER.VERY HELPFUL.FUNNY GUY.I GOT MORE INTERESTED IN READING BOOKS WHEN I TOOK HIS CLASS.
very very very very very good teacher
Really good teacher. Class is not very mandatory, but it's fun to go. He is very enthusiastic and fun but doesn't alwasy clarify he's random assignments. I thought it was pretty easy if you do the work. Gives a lot of extra credit and is very easy going. I definately recommend taking his class.
Very good prof. would take his class again if I could. Everyone has fun in his class. Prof. Sund can become a little crazy at times but his jokes are always funny. He very understanding if you have to turn a late essay in as long as you have a valid reason and tell him in advance. I would email him in advance for the book list. Very good prof.
Very nice and inspiring teacher! very funny but can be confusing with class instructions at times. It feels like home. :) Make sure to attend SI sessions and do extra work for extra credits. Be imaginative, unique and stand out-- he likes people who thinks outside the box :)
A very fun, passionate, and out-going teacher. Encourages a lot of participation and discussion. He is very open to people's opinions and experiences and uses that to propel his lectures. There's room to push yourself and learn but also to slack off and do the bare minimum. Good teacher overall.
hes amazing. makes you want to learn. passionate. funny. cute. gorgeous smile. keeps your interest. what more could you ask for!!!!
Mr. Sund is the most influential teacher I've ever had. I took him for two semesters (English 1A and 1B). He made me want to write again and challenged me in my creativity. Even my views of the future and achieving my dreams were altered. He is the only teacher that I feel really taught me anything worth any value.
I took Asher's English Mo1A class at Moorpark College. One of the greatest teachers I ever had in college, no joke! He makes the class a lot of fun, as well as he is a very laid back teacher and has lots of fun with his students. Great essay topics to write about. Highly recommended for sure!
Awesome teacher!!! Always thought of writing as something really hard to reach.. Until I had his class!! :) Great atmosphere! Great teaching method! Wish I could take his class again :)
Really good guy. Made me enjoy writing, and I used to hate it. Makes you rethink alot of your previously held steriotypes. His class was never boring, and he gave everyone a fair chance to excell. He also wrote a letter of recommendation for a scholarship for me. Really awesome person.
Awesome guy, super helpful. I found his essays to be a little difficult because he goes into phil a lot, but he is willing to talk the extra time to explin it outside of class. He helped me get into writing a little bit (not my thing tho). Plus he's waay easy on the eyes. I wish he was teaching V01B next semester!
His class was very interesting and pretty easy. I wouldn't mind taking his class again
he is the BEST english teacher ever!!! i am even taking him next semester, very fun guy. love professor asher, dont hesitate to take him!
SUPER EASY TEACHER. I LIKE THE WAY HE TEACHES. INTERACTS WITH STUDENTS REALLY WELL.
Pretty cool teacher. Weird but cool. I love the way he teaches. He makes the class fun. I definitely recommend him to anyone who doesn't like boring, serious teachers but will totally help you if needed. So,just TAKE HIM! you won't regret it.
He is the best teacher i have ever had!! I hated english before and sucked at essays and he made the class enjoy it. He is very outgoing and cool. He makes the class feel like they've known each other forever. Everyone is friends.Theres a lot of small group work but its not awkward at all.If you have to opportunity take his class!Very easy and fun!
BEST TEACHER EVER!!! LOVED HIS CLASS. MAKES IT FEEL LIKE A FAMILY. LEARNED A LOT. WOULD TAKE HIM AGAIN IN A SECOND!!!
Really good teacher. He is very enthusiastic and fun but always clarify he's random assignments. I thought it was pretty easy if you do the work.
Absolutely amazing teacher, he is incredibly kind and willing to help you whenever needed. Also, he is very quick witted so be on your toes if you engage in banter. Overall great class, this man is the way to go for English! Oh, make sure to get the edition of the textbook he uses, old won't work.
Professor Asher is a awesome instructor. I didn't care for writing essay papers until I took his class. He makes the class fun and enjoyable and before the essay is due there is group participation and we go over the assignment so we can understand it. He is very helpful and easy going and I really loved him and his class!!!!! :) Enjoyable
I love this professor and really enjoyed his class. He actually makes it fun. I would definitely take another class with him. I really enjoyed coming to class and learning in his class. He made it very enjoyable and interesting to write and learn. :) :) :)
Dr. Sund is easily one of the best teachers I've had at VC! He's really quirky and a bit weird at first but it totally makes the class more interesting. We all felt like family by the end of the class, as long as you put effort into the papers he's an easy grader. He usually offers extra credit or a way to revise your grade. TAKE HIS CLASS.
Dr. Asher is easily the best professor I have had at VC. He's totally eccentric and quirky, but makes your class feel like a family. His class is exciting so you don't want to miss it. He will help you become a better writer and enjoy the process. So if you have the chance to take him, do it.
I agree with all the good posts. BUT, do not take his class if you aren't interested in reading and writing about a book on PHILOSOPHY. He takes 25 points off if you miss a class, has a class policy about tardiness, and requires unnecessary group workGROUP PROJECTS. I think he's a great professor but his teaching methods aren't exactly my style
He is a good professor BUT he is not teaching English. i took this class based off of his amazing reviews an d he is really great but again he makes no sense about English and is so caught up on psychology. WHY DIDNT HE BECOME A PSYCH TEACHER!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Asher Sund is a wonderful teacher who is very interested in his students gaining insight into how to actively learn and explore themselves, rather than simply writing boring papers.
The best professor I've ever had at VC. He makes you think and he'll go out of his way to help you. He even gives you his phone number. He'll definitely make you work for your grade, but after the first essay, you'll know exactly how to follow his methods. Above all, he's hilarious and keeps students engaged. Take his class. You won't regret it.
Dr. Asher Sund is one of the best professors I've taken so far! He gives amazing lectures and you'll always be looking forward to coming to his class. His work is not hard, as long as you keep up and go to class you'll be fine. Wish there were more professors like him!
Amazing teacher! By far the best English teacher I've had at VC.
He's a psych teacher not an English teacher. Super rude to his students and makes fun of them. The reviews were excellent while he was NOT.
By far the best professor I've ever taken. Honestly, I didn't learn a whole lot about english composition (which is boring anyway), but I learned an invaluable amount about myself and my life. He's very open, eccentric and passionate and made class something I looked forward to. Be authentic, keep up with the reading and you'll do well.
He makes the class feel more like a family, even if you're totally shy like me. He can kind of pick on students but it's not serious, he does it more of a joking manner. Work is easy and the essays aren't that bad. Can seem like he takes something before class for all the energy he has though.
Asher is such a weirdo. his class was really entertaining, he is hilarious. we read a few books, not too difficult. He really wants all of his students to follow their dreams so be prepared to watch a lot of cheesey videos. just go to class and do the online responses and you should be good.
Dr. Sund has to be one of my favorite professors of all time. He's intelligent, empathetic, inspirational, and unorthodox. Our class became a family this semester. We learned so much about ourselves, each other, and life lessons in context of the course material. I feel thoroughly prepared for V01B at this point. Also, he's a talented musician ;).
I would recommend for anyone to take him! He uses his job to actually help people with their lives and paths. Probably the best teacher I've had period. Write in the darn journal because it sneaks up on you, everyone was panicking the last week, and don't skip any discussions. Your grade pretty much depends on discussions and attendance.
BY FAR THE BEST PROFESSOR I'VE HAD! He's awesome, just take his class, stop looking at these review, NOW, and take my word, you won't regret it! :) GO!
He is definitely one of a kind. Super eccentric in the class, which makes it very entertaining. His lectures are more about psychology. But he is there to help you outside of class with any questions about your essay. Don't miss any of the discussions or class and you will do fine! I would take another class by him he is a solid choice!!!
I genuinely enjoyed taking his class and if given the opportunity would gladly choose him as a brofessor again. He gave feedback on all my assignments which I value, and was easy to approach with any and all questions/concerns I had throughout the duration of his course.
He's pretty awesome guy. However, this is not a traditional English Class. Most of the class is about chasing your dreams / being a better human I guess. You read a couple of books and he teaches you the sandwich method but that's it. The readings aren't very big and all you have to do is answer a few very easy questions online after each reading.
Hands down one of my favorite English instructors. Hes very clear on what he wants you to get done and very consistent on making sure you understand the material. He gives great feedback for every assignment that is given to you which I found to be very helpful and encouraging through the semester.
Hands down, the best English prof., I've had so far. He is really inspirational, gets real with you and is honestly hilarious in his lectures. He also makes you get to know your fellow classmates fun, you will need to read the books he assigns so you can do a 4-6 page essay about once per month. He does make the class difficult at first on purpose.
He has a great personality! He is very energetic. His topics on essays are very interesting. His lectures as well are interesting.
Was testing out criteria on class. He also said that he worked more on topic with his other class thats why they did better...
He made class super fun and always shows that he cares whenever you need help in anything. Definitely would take him again !
Asher is by far the best English instructor I have ever had. He is clear from the very beginning on what he wants and how he wants it. His personality and jokes make the class feel like a fun environment. I seriously recommend his class. Asher goes above and beyond for his lectures and really gets involved with his students. I highly recommend.
Very good professor I'd say. His assignments are straight forward and aren't complicated. He is very energetic but has one of a kind personality. I think people have fun taking his classes in my opinion. If you're a student athlete I recommend to take cause it's easy.
easy teacher hated English, took all my science classes and left the Englishes for last. online so I wouldn't be as embarrassed when I got my papers back. glad I found this teacher. he's willing to help, understands writing isnt for everyone. take him if you aren't confident in writing papers. 5 papers, 3 books, midterm final. participation must.
Very nice guy & smart, he goes beyond the meaning of English class. Writing and reading is a must but there's a life lesson that comes along with that. He inspires students to speak and talk about the real issues in life. He truly helped me understand what the class was about. One of the best Instructors I have taken
Please do yourself a solid and take Asher's Class. He will have the entire class applaud you if you come in late.. or leave early. Very easy to listen too, and learn from. He brings up valid points, original thoughts, and well thought out inter during lectures, and lets his students lead if they feel confident enough.
very helpful and doesn't critique your work.
Asher is a character. I took him for both English classes and he is not a hard grader. He knows most of his students are taking the class because they have to. If you just participate in the online discussions and do the assignments you will get an easy A. Do not come late to class he will make everyone applaud you!
5 essays, midterm and final that were also essays that were 60 minutes timed, 8 discussion boards, 5 reading assignments, 5 video filpgrid assignments. Lots of work and you should like psychology because that is the main focus of the written assignments. Owning your own shadow, The Alchemist, Man's search for meaning were the books covered.
The topics covered were in searching for life's meaning and dealing with suffering. The Professor is great overall but there is a lot of assignments due; reading, 5 essays and 2 finals (also essays but timed). He does provide good discussions which help out a lot but beware he requires Flipgrids (video responses). Do the work and you will pass.
I already despise English but this did not make it any easier. I basically got a C because I refused to do his flipgrids which are assignments where you take videos of yourself. He is also tough on grading. You have to write absolutely flawless in order to get a full score on any essays. Do yourself a favor and find someone else.
I have taken two english classes with this Professor and I want to take more. He makes learning/reading fun and exciting, which is not easy to do. This class is easy as long as you don't fall behind on your reading. He is also very genuine and not to mention funny. 10/10 this will be your favorite class of the semester.
Dr. Sund is an amazing professor. I'm really sad our classes got cut short because of COVID because his lectures were great! He gives excellent feedback on every single assignment, not just essays. He's also very understanding and you can tell he actually cares about his students. Would definitely take again!
His essay "prompts" are indecipherable. I am currently writing an essay for his class that has to be narrative, persuasive, AND a research paper. The prompt says to write it as if the audience is your family and friends after you die, attending a will reading. It also has to be seven pages. I have to back up personal anecdotes with quotes. Terrible
This professor should not teach English. He never gave a clear essay prompt. Instructions were extremely frustrating and impossible to follow. He would ask for a narrative essay to have an argumentative component which makes no sense, and he never taught anything about proper quote integration or any essay writing methods whatsoever. Do not take.
I really enjoyed this class. There were quiet a few papers especially towards the beginning of the semester but he was super willing to help with any questions that I had if I was confused on anything. Only negative comment I have is the prompts for some of the essays weren't very clear and I would have to go to him directly for clarification.
I took his Creative Writing class, and he is so nice. He's funny and takes the time to help his students. The textbook is not a textbook, but rather a chapter book. Wonderful teacher.
Professor Sund provided us with three novels and related writing assignments which were engaging, interesting & encouraged self-reflection. He gave thorough feedback which made the writing process feel fresh. I signed up for another of his classes in the Spring. Prepare to enjoy the process of improving your writing & reading skills; he's a gem!
Asher Sund is one of the few teachers left in the world that actually cares about his students. He actually sees good and potential in his students and is a really helpful and impactful teacher. I actually learned in his class and it was something useful! It wasnt all just about read this and write that he actually thought us very valuable thing
Professor Sund is an outstanding teacher. He makes the readings sweet and short with clear directions on how each assignment/essay should be done. He's very accessible outside the class if you need the extra help! Very understanding and willing to help in order for you to pass. I'm so glad I took his class, would totally recommend taking his class.
Professor Sund made me actually like English. It is very psychology based with the books read in the course being self help books. Sometimes essay prompts weren't very clear, but he was more than willing to help and further explain if needed.
Very down-to-earth professor. He always gets back to you fast when you message him. Tells you exactly what you can do better and how to do it in all of his feedback. An all-around great teacher and a great guy!
Professor Sund was one of the best teachers I've ever had. He was organized which was really helpful because the class was online. He explained every assignment in detail & how to get a good grade on it. He also made it really clear that he was always available to help. A good amount of reading and essays, but the books were interesting so nbd
No textbooks required besides reading materials (which are quite interesting!). I took Professor Sund's online ENGL V01A class and absolutely loved it, Professor Sund is a very kind and caring man. He is very organized and a clear grader. If you are having any issues or confusion the best way to fix it is to speak with him. Best English prof ever:)
I really enjoyed his class, allowed me to be outspoken about my faith in Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ, enjoyed his class, and would recommend him, and I look forward to taking his class for the Spring 2022 semester God Willing.
I love Professor Sund! If you have the chance to take him, do it! He gives out a lot of writing assignments but he prepares you for them. You can tell he cares for his students success. If you put in the work this will be an easy A for you.
Professor Sund really goes above and beyond for his students. I was hesitant about his class at first, but I'm so grateful that I saw it through. He's always willing to lend a hand and gives some amazing lectures that really make you think. If you're at all interested in creative writing, take his class - you won't be disappointed.
I had him 3 times. For Spring 2022 we were online w/ zoom meetings & went back in person. I love Asher he is a great professor & person. He gives EC, he doesn't want anyone to fail, he gives feedback, & he is not strict. I recommend him & I looked forward to this class. I recommend turning in all assignments to pass.
Such a great professor! Got to read some great stories and he gives assignments that encourage creativity. Very easy to reach by email or through Canvas. Assignments were discussion posts, Flipgrids, and some papers.
I love having him as an English professor. Introduced me to so many good stories and poets, I kept the textbook lol. I wish I could have taken him in person. You won't fail as long as you put in the effort.
He was fine- nice and generally understanding, but it made me realize I don't want to be told how to creatively write. Says there are no rules, but that there are rules, and only sticks to the ones he wants to and ignores the ones he feels like. If you share his writing style, you'll do great. No matter what though, just try and you'll be fine.
This class may be my favorite I've eve taken at any level of education. This class came at a time when I needed motivation of direction in life. The reading we did was so helpful for my growth as a person. The rubric was always clear and I never felt like I wasn't set up to succeed. Work load not too much. Love this guy!
Professor Sund has clear grading criteria. He encourages self-growth and is a very caring professor. His assignments will push you to learn about yourself and the shadow within. He is the best professor I had, I definitely recommend taking his class.
I really like how understanding he was and his assignments were actually fun! I would definitely take one of his classes again! Hes gives a reasonable amount of work!
Professor Sund is an amazing professor. In my opinion Professor Sund's assignments are easy to understand and not difficult at all. He is a flexible grader and understanding. He gives great feedback on each assignment that can help an individual later on in other assignments. I would highly recommend his courses.
Theres not that many assignments and i love showing up to his class because hes really funny and it doesnt even feel like boring school and lectures. He encourages you to make friends and participate.
One of the most respected and wonderful professors in the English department at Ventura College. There couldn't have been any better professor than him. He was so lenient with people's struggles when it came to approaching deadlines that he would go out of his way to extend them if people needed it. Would strongly recommend him for V01A and V01B.
after taking a difficult professor last semester, mr sund is refreshing. he doesnt assign alot in a week, he is lenient with deadlines, and a super chill professor. he is so lax, he doesn't really provide good feedback on your work, he'll simply send u off with a pass. his class, to me, felt like a break from the stressful experiences ive had.
I was enrolled in professors Sunds V01A class in the past and now V01B and I had to come back and give him another 100% recommendation! He is the absolute best professor and is caring and really passionate about his teaching! You will not regret his classes.
The BEST English prof in the department easily. He's so caring and respectful, his class felt like a huge weight off of my shoulders from my other difficult courses. Very accommodating to the students and understands that life gets in the way sometimes. The work is super good and easy. Register early so you can take him for both V01A and V01B!
Asher Sund was a very comical guy who gave a lot of care to everything he did in class. We read poems, then short stories, a novel, and then a play (Hamlet). His assignments were fairly easy mostly discussions or reading posts which did take more than a few hours each week. Overall, a funny teacher who was pretty kind on deadlines.
Best professor i've ever had, he's super funny and caring about his students. He made classes enjoyable and his assignments were pretty straight forward and easy.
Very boring class, stickler for showing up on time. Didn't learn any English, just focused on very basic reading comprehension. Gets weirdly angry at class easily. Lots of busy work, doesn't enforce due dates, and we never got any feedback. Brought up a lot of traumatic subjects in text/with students just to be a bit insensitive/tone deaf. Easy A
Best English teacher ever! He is always excited and full of energy. Not your typical English class, as he incorporates the books you read into amazing lectures that correlate to the real world, giving great advice. English is not my best subject but I really enjoyed writing his essays. He has 5 major ones and you read 3 books (parts). He's funny!
If you do the assignments and put in effort it should be an easy class if you don't do the work it's a harder class but still pretty easy
Asher Sund is a fantastic professor who makes his English class engaging and enjoyable. With minimal assignments and lenient deadlines, it feels more like a break than a chore. unstuck ai has been a helpful study tool alongside the free course materials.
Actually the worst person I'd ever met at Ventura College. The workload was normal, but my issue with him was with the snide remarks made by him every single morning in class, whether about me or different students. He could have been going through a rough time outside of class, sure, but so was I. Proceed with caution.
His work wasn't interesting, nothing was fun the videos and reading he chose bored me. Gave credit for completion.
Overall his class was easy, if you stay on top of the assignments you will get credit for it and get an easy A. I suggest not to slack off on the assignments as it can seem like a work overload trying to catch up. Deadlines are also flexible and is understanding if you have any issues or questions with assignments.
I took this course online and it honestly went smoothly. Lots of discussions and assignments but were not time consuming. I loved the material that we covered. Assignments were super straightforward with step by step instruction. He always came off super caring and genuine in emails and in feedback. Just do the work and you will pass. Great Teacher
Credit for completion, in poetry there is no wrong answer, so just do your best with assignments and you will pass and even get an 'easy' A. Very understanding and communicative professor, someone said his class felt more like a break than a chore and I couldn't have said it better. Stay on top of weekly homework.
