Dr. P this one is for you! Dr. P is a very good professor, chemistry in general isn't easy. She is very helpful. Does not give multiple choice midterms, but once you take her class you will understand why. Overall great quality! Highly recommended! Take advantage of office hours, it helps alot!
Dr. P is the best teachers I have ever taken! She is so passionate about chemistry, makes you feel the same.I have never seen a teacher give a lecture with a rhythm. She is willing hold your hand if you think that you need it.Her goal is to make each student in her class become a chemist. Use her office hours! PS:her blue high heal shoes rock!
Awsome! Took class over summer. Class was Mon/weds, she had office hours tues/thurs, and if we needed help made herself available on skype fri. passionate about a subject she's been doing since 6th grade. The most emails I ever received about staying on top and practicing problems to really grasp the formulas but well worth it. hate chem/love her!
I took Dr. P in the Spring11 so this is overdue; however she is a really enthusiastic teacher who genuinely wants to help you. If you put in the effort she will help you, if you have a difficult time understanding the material she will come at it from a different angle, she truly knows her stuff and is dedicated.
No scantrons on the exam, but that will work to your advantage; quizzes for lab everyday and a lot of lab write up, but if you?re a good writer then that will just add to your grade... Mission College is lucky to have her!!!
Chemistry is obviously not the funnest subject you can take, but Dr. P makes its super fun. She's always enthusiastic & wants all her students to succeed! Going to her class is a must, you're not going to understand anything by just reading the book. Go to her study session! SUPER helpful, & she also has office hours! Take advantage of her kindness
Best chemistry teacher ever! Dr. P was super nice and helpful, not only to her students but also to those who are not in her class. Having her for CHEM 12A & 12B totally changed my opinion about organic chemistry. Rated 2 for easiness not because she was difficult. It's just that her tests were not easy. If you wanna get A, you'd better study hard.
Attend class for participation pts. She also gets offended if you don't come to her class (she notices!). Weekly quiz, hw not manditory but recommended, lab/worksessions due weekly. If you do the hw and understand it, you'll do fine on exams. Cumulative final. She makes herself very available to help students.
So took this class over summer session 2012, and I must say, SHE WAS AMAZING with teaching all the concepts in so little time. Also, she is very helpful - goes through problems step by step. Also, she tries her best to explain clearly as possible. Most of all, GREAT TEACHER - really passionate and really there to TEACH the material in a nice manner
One of the best chem teachers here! Very passionate about class and tries to get to know all her students. Do the hw and study your quizzes/tests and you'll be fine. ASK QUESTIONS when you don't understand! Explains step by step and as many times as needed to help learn the material. I took class during summer and got a B. Highly recommend her!
The workload for this class is very high. At time it seems unreasonable, but be ready.
HW assignments are not mandatory but highly recommended in order to pass the class. Tests are not scantron based which allows for partial credit. Dr. P is organized, clear, tests what she teaches, and very willing to help students. I worked full time and took her class and got a good grade.
Ochem is a very tough class requiring alot of work and dedication, but Dr. P always offered help if we needed it. She explained concepts and problems great and did not rush through the material, she helped us learn it before moving on. She LOVES her students and really really cares about them and their success. Tough tests though.
Dr. P is a very demanding and at times very unreasonable. he assigns lots of home work and journals to write which is quite unnecessary. She hates when she doen't have answer to the question. Very harsh on grading. She acts like a teenager!
DR p. does not help students in terms of preparing them for the exam. The exams are extremely challenging and nothing like what so ever she teaches in the class. If you don't study on your own, you set yourself for a failure if you rely on Dr P's instructions.
Dr. P is amazing and what I love about her teaching style is that she is always willing to help you out. Oh she also sets aside tons of time outside of the classroom for further clarification, I always attended her office hours and if that didn't work she'd try to make as much time as she can outside of office hours. She'll always help you out!
She records her lectures and posts them for us to watch again at our own pace She's super helpful, I always attended her office hours, homework is not assigned but recommended for further practice, you get enough practice during the work sessions the journals seemed extreme at first but she just wants you to read before class, understandable!
ENTHUSIASTIC. Acted like a teenager sometimes (in a bad way) She gets easily upset with you. Tests are very difficult if you don't obsess. Journals are pointless. But overall, I think Dr P is MUCH better than the other organic professors around. She really wants you to learn and love Chem. I would recommend, but be prepared to work ALOT.
She is the best Chem teacher in Bay area. She has charming and kind personality. Her teaching is very clear and easy to understand. It always amazes me how much she cares about students. She spends so much time outside of class trying to help out. Recording her lectures and offering extensive office hours. My advise, be respectful and be prepared!
I loved Dr. P! Ochem is such a hard subject- i felt like losing it! but Dr. P was always so happy to be teaching which helped me get through the days. She plays music during lab and work sessions are super helpful. Tests are hard! Ochem requires alot of work (be prepared to put off your other classes) but Dr. P is a great teacher. TAKE HER!!!
She is so knowledgeable and enthusiastic about organic chemistry( i took 3 courses with her), very great at explaining organic concepts; she records her lectures and post them online for students to watch again. She has really helped me prepare for my future; I cannot thank her enough. If you want to have a good chemistry knowledge, take her!!!!
She looks more pretty than the profile picture. I guess glasses did it. Very hard-working teacher and you can actually learn from her. she is passion and eager to teach students. So, just take her class or you will regret.
Without a doubt in my mind, Dr. P is my favorite professor at MC. Although ochem was very challenging, she does her very best to teach her students. Her devotion and care for her students really shows. I will definitely miss those emails Dr. P!! Mission College is lucky to have such an amazing professor.
Dr P is very nice when you meet her but she's also very demanding. She's too serious about everything and is there to teach only. I felt intimidated to ask questions especially before an exam because she made it seem like I should know the material already and wasn't much of a help. Hard class wouldn't recommend it to anyone new in the subject.
Pretty harsh when it comes to grading tests, yet very relaxed with everything else. I wouldn't say she's easy. However,an A is close enough to wear if you reach for it, you can definitely grab it. All in all, I would say she's my number one pick for an Organic chem teacher at both West valley and Mission--in regards to clarity and ease.
Dr P is really energetic in teaching lecture. However, she is too energetic in providing difficult exam. Very hard class and very tough exams.
Organic 12B is not an easy class .My first test was a complete fail around 50, but then I started getting help from Dr. P and she was very accommodating she knows her material well. She's pretty foxy too, It beats looking at an old ugly man in the morning.
Dr. P is a very enthusiastic and supportive professor. She provides you many opportunities to do well in this class! So long you follow her lecture, instructions, and practice questions, you will earn the A at the end!
EXCELLENT TEACHER, LOOK NO FURTHER. Dr. P is an excellent Ochem teacher who not only has awesome online lectures, but is extremely willing to help students understand the class material. We did not do very many labs because we did work sessions instead which actually help enforce the material that was just taught. She GIVES LOTS OF EXTRA CREDIT!!!!
Dr. P is the best teacher ever. Organic Chem is not an easy subject but once you understand something and able to answer the questions, it kinda feels awesome. Dr. P gives extra help with explanation during office hours so make use of that. Do ALL extra credits if you can and have time because this IS the class you must get an A in!
By far the most helpful and enthusiastic professor I've ever taken. She takes hard material and makes it easy to digest. If you're motivated and alert in class, there is no reason you shouldn't walk out feeling confident that you learned something.
Dr.P is very knowledgeable, energetic and You will feel her passionate with Chemistry. Just pay attention to the rule and try your best. I think you can get good grade.
Dr.P is very knowledgeable, energetic and You will feel her passionate with Chemistry. Just pay attention to the rule and try your best. I think you can get good grade. If you really interesting in Chem, I would recommend you to enroll Honor session. It would be fun!
Dr. P is AWESOME!! She is very well organized and is very approachable. She is probably the happiest teacher I ever had. She made everything super easy and the test is the similar to the worksessions, which she provides answer. I wasnt sure what I wanted to major in, but she inspired me to go toward the science field. I would love to take her again
Hi Dr. P we love you here at UC Davis!!!!!!!!! - Old Student (Ochem Class of 2014)
Dr. P is one of the most fantastic lecturers of any professors I have ever taken and I graduated from UC Berkeley and even those professors do not compare. Considering the difficulty of the material she makes learning and understanding EASY! She is super approachable and seems to live on campus. Hilarious person and inspirational! SHE CARES!
Get ready to commit the next year of your life to ochem! Dr. P is really genuine& nice, but there's A LOT of material to learn! Tips: Don't take too many classes w this one bc almost all of your time & energy will be spent studying. & she doesn't like slackers! Be ready to study on weekendsholidays because that's what it's gonna take to do well!
Dr. P is amazing. She focuses on understanding of mechanisms behind the reactions so you have better understanding of the material. She has a lot of passion for teaching and respects those who have passion for learning. Fair grader and gives partial credit but you MUST work hard and practice. Read the McMurry book & practice ACS study guide often.
I LOVE DR. P!!! It is an absolute understatement to say that she is the best lecturer I've ever had in my life. Hilarious. Passionate. Empathetic. Knowledgeable. (Did I mentioned hot?) I can go on and on about her. Yes, she is a tough grader but it IS her duty to be since this is ORGANIC Chemistry class: you won't learn anything if she's easy!
she is very nice and understanding. I took both chem 12a and 12b with her. 12a was very easy but 12b was way more challenging. she is very passionate and makes her class fun to go to. don't be scared and ask her questions, i did and learned a lot. ochem is an amazing and important subject. listen to her and practice acs.
Dr.P is an extremely nice person and she is always willing to help if you ask. However, her lectures were very confusing and I always felt as if she did not provide students with a strong understanding of the basic concepts. You can easily get an A in her class but you've got to put in a 100% effort. She gives a lot of partial and extra credit.
A lot of fun was had in this class. If you show up and do your work, a good grade will be coming your way.
Pros Nice, helpful, coherent. Cons Can be fast in lecture (but are recorded), some exam questions weren't covered in lecture, lose points for turning in lab reports late, must participate to get points, lab write-ups take 1-2+ hours, too many homework questions. Work sessions rushed. Pro tip: watch youtube videos for better explanations.
She's a really good teacher, no lie. She has online lectures there for you to learn on your own time and has office hours. Her tests were super hard and more than half the class dropped for 3B ), not kidding. For 12A she's superb! For 12B it's a night mare *cries
In general, she's a good teacher and really tries to make sure you understand the subject material. This class isn't easy, so don't think you're going to get away without studying. (She herself recommends that you study every day!) She records lectures so you can re-watch them; however, it's still useful to come to class anyway.
She is cool; she loves her subject and all (knows a lot about chem., passionate, etc...), but I do not think she knows how to teach it to the students very well. I felt too hesitate just to even ask her questions because she would answer with the same thing she had previously said over. While I wanted, I guess, a clearer or easier understanding.
A lot of homework, a lot of time to prepare in this class. Exam is very difficult.
You're going to spend most of your time copying labs onto a carbon copy notebook. It's a huge waste of time. Unlike Dr. Piekarski, not everyone learns by copying the material. She emphasizes the need to copy labs so that students look at the material. No one learns by copying.
Dr. Piekarski is one of the liveliest educator that I have taken and she's amazing. She has a ton of passion of her field and is willing to help you out when you ask. Her tests are tough, but he does her best to prepare you in every step. Definitely do the homework, don't procrastinate lab reports, and study everyday. You won't regret taking her!
A lot of ppl say she's hard but that's because they don't attend office hrs or do her suggested book problems ahead of time. I did the ACS book chapters that correlated with each section. I found her lectures MORE clear than the textbook. Her tests aren't easy, but by practicing mechanisms you can easily do well. It was a lot of work, though.
Dr. P, is the best person to teach any chem class. I wish she could teach BioChem too. She is fun and nice and make the material extremely easy to digest. Exam are challenging but if you watch her videos and go to reviews (she gives hints), you will do fine. Take her if you are a Chem major or planning to take exams with chem in it. (PCAT.. Etc).
True: In a carbon notebook, you spend HOURS copying lab techniques into it. Aside from the recorded lectures, there is not much teaching. Worksheets are completed in groups of 2-3 students and she will come by if you need help. She will answer questions during her office hours. I had an A in her class but felt like I could have learned more ...
Countless hours spent copying textbook content to notebook - this is REQUIRED. When you ask her what to focus on for exams, she tells you everything is important. Do all homework assignment listed in back of chapters. Everything is important in chapters and techniques. If you do well in an exam, you get a ... wait for it ... STICKER! YAY!!!
This was a pretty hard class but Ashley makes it fun and makes sure to highlight that areas that will be useful to students in various majors. There is a lot of 'busy work' filling out carbon copy but it is good practice for possible actual lab work or at least a exercise in attention to detail which is a worthwhile skill to acquire.
she is a nice lady. but her class is hard. her lectures are very easy and on work sessions, she solves the easiest problem and she will give practice test before the exam and they are so easy. exams are so hard and so long. I always have a hard time to finishing the exam. so much writing , she is very hard on grading.
she is very hard in grading, and by end of semester, she doesn't care about students and leave them alone. she forced us to study 5 chapters by our self.
I honestly believed O chem to have been the most challenging but most fun subject I could've ever taken. The class forces you to take responsibilities like watching the lecture on your own and doing the optional homework. Definitely attend office hours to clear up stuff. You won't find a more caring and inspiration chem professor than her :)
A nice person, but below average TEACHER. Requires you to work with different people to improve social skills - not everyone needs help here. Requires you to copy text info into carbon book - silicon valley meets cave people. Lectures are on videos so you don't get the teacher-student interactions. Not diff to get an A but I am here to learn OChem!
This is like taking an online class. Lectures are all on videos (with many errors). When you show up to her office hours you either have to wait in line, or she rushes you through your list of questions because there is a line at her door. There is minimal interaction with her in class. And yes, copying on carbon paper takes forever .. *sigh!*
focused on national standard test
It's absolutely true that she gives a lot of work. I dreaded doing the lab presentation, but in the end it was worth it. She gives a lot of points so it's not hard to get the grade you want, even if you get disappointing test scores. She teaches OChem so you don't have to memorize! I feel like I actually understand the electron flow.
One of the most empathetic and enthusiastic teachers I've ever had. She really loves her students! Perhaps the hybrid-style class is not for everyone, but I have definitely benefited from being able to watch the lectures on my own schedule, when I feel the most focused and ready to learn!
She is a great professor that cares a lot about her students. She is a hard grader but it is because she wants everyone to actually learn and understand the materials, not just memorize them. She prepares you for your future profession so if you want to earn an A, you need to put effort into it and keep practicing problems.
Dr. Faris is incredibly well-versed in organic chemistry, and she fully prepares you for your future classes and tests. She focuses on helping you understand the reactions and mechanisms rather than purely memorizing content. Yes, her class is hard, but that is also the nature of the subject. You will learn more with her than anywhere else.
Odd that she rotates people into random groups to "improve their social skills". Got stuck a few times with people who didn't study ahead of time and relied on me for all the answers! I shared these issues with her but she just smiled and said it's for the best. Avoid Mission College if it's important for you to learn OChem.
Dr. Ashley Faris is really nice and tries to help you succeed in her class. There are only 3 Tests including the final, she does not assign homework but there are 10 quizzes, and a bunch of work sessions and experiments. The lectures are enjoyable, her skeleton notes make it really easy to follow. At the beginning of this course, it was really tough but it gets easier. If you need to take a chemistry class, take it with Dr. Faris.
Dr. Faris is amazing! I would highly recommend her. The lectures are clear and straight forward. she is well organized and knowledgeable in the material. Dr. Faris really cares for her students. I wouldnt recommend any other professor for chemistry.
I loooooove Dr. Faris!! Her lectures are super organized and easy to follow along, and she's really good about answering questions. She doesn't make anybody feel stupid, and it's clear she genuinely cares about the success of her students. The honors section has a research paper and presentation as well as different tests, but it's not bad at all.
Amazing and inspirational professor. Cares greatly about the success of her students. Always willing to help and go the extra mile. Learned a tremendous amount in her class.
Dr. Faris is a wonderful, charismatic, caring teacher. She puts a lot of effort into her students and actually cares if you pass or not. Not only does she care that you pass, she also cares about how well you understand the subject and takes time to explain it without seeming annoyed. She is also not intimidating, so if you have questions, ask her!
Dr. Faris is an enthusiastic teacher. She cares about the student and wants you to succeed. Her lectures are clear and she encourages questions. I'm genuinely impressed by her energetic spirit in teaching and her dedication for the students.
Dr. Faris is the professor you wish you had the privilege of taking early on in your college journey or at any point whatsoever. She truly believes every student can succeed in her chemistry course and lectures in a very conducive and accessible way for learning. Her class is straightforward and exams and quizzes are very fair. Highly recommended!
One of the best overall professors that I have ever had. Dr. Faris is very approachable, caring and knowledgable. She makes herself available for her office hours and she actually cares if you understand the material! I would definitely recommend taking her for Chem1B. It is not an easy class by any means, but Faris sets her students up to succeed.
She truly cares for her students and wants to see them succeed. She enjoys the subject and is so knowledgeable about it! Take her class, and you will not regret it.
Summer 2019. Dr. Ashley Faris really shines. She took the time to go over the material she felt important to our education. Where the class struggled, she would spend more time on the subject and ensure we understood the concepts we needed to get further. She is a true motto of "nobody gets left behind." I got a C, but hey I'm a bio major. )
She is a wonderful professor. You have to work hard to earn an A but that is the point of the course. She always explains the material deeply and carefully. If you have any questions, she is willing to help you till you understand it. I love her lecture because it is really detailed.
One of the best professors I've had. CHEM 1B is hard, you have to put in the work for it. Exams are hard but doable. I reviewed her skeleton notes BEFORE class so you can follow, do the work sessions diligently, DO THE HW - DO NOT SKIP THIS!, ATTEND EVERY OFFICE HOUR even if it's just to review the lecture. She cares for her students.
Mrs. Faris was a great professor until the Wuhan-Coronavirus pandemic forced us into online learning. Ever since, she made the class much more difficult than it had to be. All quizzes and tests were proctored and when I told her that I did not have a computer, webcam, and a quiet place to work at home, she told me to drop the class. Not helpful.
Easy class (then again i'm a Physics person). Didn't like her lectures. She will play youtube to teach some of the materials. Not able to explain topics with details & example. Homework are for just practice (but a lot) so do those & work session(WS) problem you'll get an A. Exams and WS are mostly math so make sure you understand them. Good Luck!
Do not take her class if its online.. Im sure shes better in person. First of all she uses proctorio (if you dont know what that is look it up). The exams have almost nothing to do with the actual material but more-so side notes from her youtube videos. shes making it almost impossible to pass. All her files online are super confusing too
1B is hard so if you don't put in the effort, you won't pass. The HW is optional, but she gets her exam Qs from it so do the HW! She's extremely accessible willing to meet outside of office hours if needed. She cares about her students and tries to make boring lectures engaging, she wants you to learn. Exams aren't easy and really make you think.
Im going to be super real, I saw that she used proctorio and I dropped the class. Proctorio is messed up, I dont think she realizes that online classes are actually harder because its harder to really learn the material. Online tests should have access to the internet, thats real life. The only good thing about Ashley is her voice sounds sweet.
Im currently taking Dr. Fairs online summer class and I love it! We get to watch lecture videos on her YouTube channel instead of having to watch her live on zoom. There are quizzes every Thursday and the thing I like about them is that they are proctored. It really keeps me honest and on top of my studies. I hope to take her for Organic Chem
Professor Faris literally makes chemistry soo clear and understandable. Now it may not be the easiest class but for the quality of her lectures I would definently try to take a class with her again. Each lecture teaches you everything you need to know, even if it's a difficult subject. So grateful to have learned so much from her.
Currently taking her online class. I believe it wouldve been better to take her class in person, but online i feel like im basically teaching myself the material. Quizzes have nothing to do with what she goes over in her youtube lectures. Video lectures seemed scripted like read off a book. Really got to understand theory behind the chapters.
Dr. Faris is a cool professor but her online class is so hard. Her lectures are on Youtube. The quiz are weekly on Thursdays and the questions are not even related to her lectures. It was hard for me to complete the WS then sometimes we have research paper due and lab which takes time. I barely had time to study for the quiz. This class is HARD.
Chem1B is not an easy course anywhere but she cares so much about her students and this subject. I watched her lectures, did WS, and tbk problems before each quiz. Went to office hours each week with questions. Getting an A is not impossible but does give a lot of unnecessary (but easy) busywork. Finished the class fully understanding concepts.
Took her class over summer. It was really hard. She gave so many work to do. This was the only class I was taking in summer and it was challenging. Her videos are so long and she gave so much information but it wasn't related to the quizzes. Her exams and quizzes were hard. I didn't like the format of the course it's so much pressure
Take Dr. Faris if you want to learn chemistry. She's not an amazing lecturer, but all you need to do to pass the class is attend lecture and fill out skeleton notes that she prepares, complete work sessions, do the recommended homework, and take your own notes from the textbook. If you don't understand something, she is extremely accessible too.
Taking Chem 1B honors with Dr. Faris was awesome this semester! Her lectures are very clear and wholesome, with real world examples provided to make concepts easier to understand. SUPER ACCESSIBLE. Personally, coming from a university setting, this is exactly the kind of teacher you want in a heavy class like Gen. Chem. Highly recommend.
a teacher that really cares about her student and although the course was asynchronous offered a lot of ways to make up work, extra credit and improve on the material being taught also had great office hours to assist in the lectures as well as mental services, and internship resources.
Dr. Faris is a literal angel. She's not the best explainer, but she really really cares about her students and wants them to succeed. Attend lecture and fill in her skeleton notes for sure. Also, read the textbook and complete the homework and you have a guaranteed A.
Lovely professor, very understanding about extensions, turning in past midnight/deadline, accessible outside of class. Reasonable expectations and friendly demeanor. 100% would take again. Made a very quick (8 week) class feel not as daunting. Lecture heavy, and make sure to take practice quizzes. Have to work hard but doable. Uses proctorio though
Ashley was an amazing professor for Chem 1B this summer! I went through some tough family stuff while taking the class and she was always so understanding and flexible. If you have the chance to take a chemistry class with her, do it!
I loved Faris' Chem 1B class. The lectures were all on youtube and as long as you watch a little every day and stay AHEAD of your work, do textbook practice, and the practice quizzes MULTIPLE times, you will do great. Understand the theory of the topic and do multiple of the practice quizzes. Office hours are accessible, you can also schedule one.
Dr. Faris was great! Weekly discussions, 3 article responses, HW packets, Labsters, reciprocal teaching, & 7 quizzes & final all w/ Proctorio (all open note & hard, but do optional practice quizzes & textbook problems). Attend office hours - 3 days/week. She's caring & lenient - lots of extra credit! Lectures are all on YouTube w/ fill-in notes.
Professor Faris is so sweet and genuinely cares about her students. Labs were fun and interesting and she grades very easily on them. Quizzes are frequent but short and simple while midterms were slightly harder. Lectures are great and informative and her skeleton notes are the best. Highly recommend!
Dr. Faris is a very caring person and also a great teacher, however, sometimes, felt like she didn't understand that we had other classes besides hers. Her tests and quizzes are hard, but they pertain to the lecture/work session content, so if you practice, you'll do fine. Great class, just be prepared to be studying for it almost every day.
I haven't studied chemistry in 10 years, and Dr. Faris made it easy to understand. Her skeleton notes were super helpful, and she is very good at explaining and simplifying things. I wish all my professors were like her. Tough class, but she was fun and caring while helping us not get overwhelmed. 10/10!!!
Organic Chemistry is incredibly difficult, but Dr Faris explains the subject very well: why reactions happen, what patterns to look for, and why it's important to know them. She is incredibly kind, cares deeply about her students, & has a ton of very helpful office hours. I feel way less scared of the MCAT because of the foundation she gave me.
I haven't taken chem class in so long, and I feel especially lucky to take Dr. Faris' class. The lectures are clear and she's readily available if you need extra help. Do the extra credit!
Loved her
she lectures at a nice pace
she goes slowly and takes time to explain the concepts which I appreciate
This class was in person lab once a week and the rest of the course was taught online. The whole online structure was very organized. Dr. Faris does an amazing job with her video lectures and communicates often between the students to make sure everyone is on the right track.
Had Professor Faris Spring 2024. Clear grading criteria, explains material well, test/quizzes are easy as long as you out in the work. Offers extra credit, 3 day grace period for most assignments, notecard cheat sheet for all quizzes/exams allowed. Very lovely and caring towards student 10/10 would recommend
I was not a fan of the online lecture format but she does amazing in depth in person reviews. The class was hard but if you stay on track and spend just a couple hours a week doing practice problems you can very easily get an A. She gives a lot of extra credit, very understanding, and sweet. Tests are all free response no mcqs. Take her!
Dr. Faris was very sweet and caring, she's pretty understanding and her grading isn't really the most test heavy which I did like. There's also lots of extra credit opportunities that you absolutely need to take advantage of because the exams were actually brutal, but tbh that's just how it is with chem. I'd take her again.
Professor Faris is kind, understanding, and passionate about her students' success. While the class is lecture-heavy, she provides office hours and extra materials to help. Labs are important, and there are multiple ways to earn points, including extra credit, so exams aren't the only factor. I recommend her for Organic Chem, she's one of the best!
THE BEST CHEM PROFESSOR!!!!!! Dr. Faris is very easy going and a very caring person who really cares for the success of her students. She lets you choose your grading format so that way if you are a bad test taker, your bad exam grades won't really drop your grade. She also offers a lot of extra credit and she offers a lot of 1 on 1 office hours.
Dr. Faris is the best teacher I have ever had. She is incredibly kind and you can tell that she truly wants her students to succeed. Her passion for ochem made me love organic! Content is going to be difficult and the lectures can be quite long. She loves to help and provide as many resources as possible! Take her for ochem if you can!!
Absolutely stunning professor. Dedicated to helping students grow, offers plenty of help outside class and explains topics clearly and nonjudgementally. Encouraging, gives lots of good practice problems to practice organic chemistry concepts with. The subject is difficult but she gives you everything you need to succeed if you want to learn.
Professor Faris is great - organized lectures, helpful reviews, and generous with extra credit. Definitely put in the work, but unstuck study was a game-changer for exam prep. Overall, a challenging but worthwhile class.
Dr. Faris is an amazing and caring instructor. She gives anyone the opportunity to pass these courses with an A as long as you stay on top of your studies. The organic series is a tough and rigorous course that requires 100% from your part. Aside from that, Dr. Faris is a great professor for anyone, especially those who find science difficult.
She's really caring and her exam are the same as the study guides and work sessions, just study and you'll be fine, I studied a lil bit and got 114 in my final lol, she's caring and wants you to succeed. There's also always 5-12 extra credit points on each exam. There's quizzes are harder than the exams but she gives you chance to make up.
