Ok but you could do better
She's wonderful for 2d but not as fun for drawing II -- 2d had the best projects and she was open to anything. the only thing i didn't like were the tests b/c the seemed pretty pointless and her grading was pretty random
OBJECTIVE GRADING
ashley was alright. i had her several years ago. but i'm not very good at drawing, and when we did the unit on pastels she was not very encouraging at all. it was a very frustrating class.
She seems like she would be a fun, easy-going teacher, however, once the class starts she becomes a completly different person. Her grading and critics are brutal at times. It can be a very frustrating class because she is not very good at giving instruction.
loved this teaher. if you come to class and actually put forth effort and follow instructions you will do fine. I think that her tests are easy. she GAVE us the answers. if you do all the homework and practice tests you will do great. she is a stickler for craftsmanship.
She's a great 2-D Design teacher. The projects are really interesting (although by no means easy). She gets a little picky about craftsmanship, but she's nice about it. Her critique sessions are always great. Recommended.
Not a proactive instructor in the least--pretty much every day of class, she doles out a bit of note-taking or instruction, then spends the rest of the period on her computer. She comes off as being friendly and easy-going, but she's a very different person in certain moods. At the end of it, I don't feel like I learned anything.
I entered this professor's class enthusiastic and ready to learn, and was immediately confused by her obtuse assignments. She sits on her laptop through 99% of class doing little else. Presents herself as being extremely open-minded and free-thinking until her buttons are pushed the wrong way. Gave two exams on material she didn't really teach.
I think Mrs. Waldvogel was a really good professor, contrary to the other comments. She is funny, and laidback. She does focus a lot on craftsmanship- but thats a main point in doing art/design! I really recommend her.. She gives u practice tests a week before the tests and the practice test pretty much is the actual test! She is really good!
Assignments are very open ended and allows you to do whatever you want to within the guidelines. Just make sure the craftsmanship is perfect and actually spend some time on the assignment. And don't treat her midterm and exams as a joke. Study at least some for them. I really enjoyed this class, maybe not the people in the class though.
She expects you to work and homework assignments. She grades craftsmanship and creativity most of all. I didnt liked assignments, I have learned something. However, you will not learn much from her because she doesent participate in the class. Most of the time she will be sitting at her desk browsing myspace or somthing...
She sits at her desk most of the class and only talks to make some snide remarks. You do learn a lot, which is useful in the classes to come afterward. Just ASK QUESTIONS. Craftmanship is a must of course, and talking during critique is highly recommended
Waldvogel is definitely hands off, she explains the assignments and then sits on her lap top for the rest of class. She will give you as much help as you need but you have to ask for it, she won't come to you. She is also really good at giving second chances! If you do a quality job and have things on time you'll do just fine!
One of my first professors here, and she is not open-minded to alternative methods to solve the problems she laid out.
I took her for 2-d design as well as color theory and found her to be a very nice and open minded professor. Yes, she does spend most of her time in class on her laptop but if you have a question she will always be glad to answer it to the best of her ability. She is also a great person outside the classroom and will help students anyway she can
She is a great teacher. Creativity and craftsmanship is a must. I took her fore 2D and she is a fair grader but she rarely interacts with the class except for critique day. On those days it is best to just add as much as possible.
The projects were pretty boring and had lots of rules. Which she expects and encourages you to bend, although she never explicitly tells you that. Whenever I asked for help, she said, "Do whatever's best for your design," instead of giving me actual help and critique. The group critiques are the most helpful thing and my favorite part of the class.
She tell's you what you've gotta do, and leaves you to it. But she is very specific of what she wants, not vague or hard to figure out. Her open class critiques are very helpful and a good motivator to produce your best work. Be inventive, clean (crafsmanship-wise), and involved, and you'll ace easily.
Very nice however this professor can hurt your gpa if you can't understand her directions, which are confusing. Relies a lot on book reading for tests and doesn't answer e-mails even though she sits in front of her computer the entire class. However she does hear you out if something comes up for a project.
Professor Waldvogel a really sweet woman, without a knack for teaching. She teaches using a textbook not her skills. Her quiz answers are random and she does take points off for spelling even though she says she doesn't. Plus the quizzes are worth 30% Not counting the midterm. I got all A's and a B on projects but failed all quizzes.
She is very nice and understanding, but plays on laptop the whole class. If you want help, just ask and she is more than willing to help! She appreciates hard work and definitely tells you when you did awesome! Her critiques were great- lots of feedback from her and peers. Sketchbook counts for a lot of grade. Take Her!!!
Her 2D design class was the most difficult class I took last quarter but it was the only class that I felt like I learned anything from. It's definitely not an easy A but it's a very satisfying one. She's a very nice lady as long as you're a.) on time, b.) always do your best, c.)have fun with your designs. I'd definitely take her again!
She was extremely rude and intimidating. She also refused to answer questions on projects when I needed clarification. If you are looking for a professor that is going to give you a little bit of extra time if you have questions or are looking for someone who is helpful, she's not your girl.
TERRIBLE TEACHER. You will come out of the class with nothing but elementary looking projects, nothing you will be proud of. She will only help if you ask lots of questions but even then her assignments are not always very clear. Although her assignments are so ridiculously easy she is a really tough grader- don't expect an A.
Ashley is very sweet, but gives little direction in projects. The one thing I didn't like is that you have NO idea how you're doing in the class. With that said, the quizzes were stupid and didn't add anything to the content of the course. I also agree with another reviewer, in that her projects are more like elementary school art projects.
I felt like I wasn't allowed to be creative in her class. Projects are more about color than painting WHICH IS NICE but, you won't be proud of anything you do.. I learned more from the book than from her. She doesn't teach. Projects are too complicated, and you have no idea if you're doing it right half the time. Any professor would be better..
She's rude. She will not help you with your assignments unless you make her. her tests are random and she never reviews for them. boring projcts. She only sits on her computer... She did give us a lot of extra credit opportuneties at the end though, which was nice. and I think she tries to be nice to some people,But I wouldn't ever take her again.
I don't understand why she has such poor ratings. I learned exactly how to make any color and about color relationships. We mostly used gouache and the projects weren't super creative, but I learned a lot about color. She encourages you to figure things out on your own, but will answer your questions. Her directions were very clear as well.
Ashley is very motherly. She is the most caring professor I've had. Her projects may seem "lame" but it's not her job to make *you* shine; It's up to you to make her projects stand out. If you can do that you will easily have the best project in class. I came away with at least 2 pieces I'd put in my portfolio and that is saying something.
Great class, great professor. She tells you exactly what she wants and gives you PLENTY of time in class to do it; there are usually skip-I-mean-work days for bigger projects. Best of all, I actually learned about color.
her assignments seem simple and self explanatory, but her grading is objective, as she compares the projects and assigns grades accordingly. she does not grades from her rubric (if one is ever given). her only redeeming quality is her personality, as she was very sweet and tried to make friends with everyone.
Kind of an uninvolved teacher... and not always clear on assignments. on some projects she sticks by the instructions to a T and then on others she expects you to break the rules. all in all, just show up for class and critiques and follow instructions. it's boring but it's design 1
Took her class in a five-week summer semester. I think I would have learned a lot more had I had an additional five weeks in her class... we didn't even get past nonobjective projects.
Love her! She's like your favorite aunt. Really pushes you to do you best. At first you have no idea how your going to pull off the assignment, but halfway through everything just clicks. Really helpful. Spent a lot of time outside walking around and at the park. Work load isn't too bad. Really easy to talk to.
Took her twice she was that good! I wish I could take her again. She allows for a ton of freedom. Some projects are not as exciting as others but she is still fantastic! Highly recommend her!
This is the second time I've taken Waldvogel and she is somehow worse the second time around. There's a lot of work, she grades harshly on painting technique even though this is a required class for non-painting majors, and what little technique she teaches is outright wrong. The color theory is solid, however. Do not take.
Took her for Design I, her work was pretty fun and balanced! She's a pretty kind grader; pulling off an A isn't very difficult. Make sure not to get on her bad side, she can be pretty brutal.
She's not the worst teacher I've had, but not the best. She teaches like you should already know what shes talking about. She does'nt say much which is intimidating. I didn't really like the assignments and shes tough in critique compared to the amount of effort SHE puts into getting the best out of you as the student. I wouldnt take her again.
This woman is amazing! I loved her so much. She is so sweet and kind, and her class is amazing, too. I loved every single project. Every project allowed a good amount of self-expression whilst still having you learn a ton. I would really recommend her. Wonderful professor!
I loved this woman!!! She was very friendly, and you could really tell that she supported her students. As far as her class, the projects were easy. She was tough at critique, but she wasn't a horribly hard grader. I plan on taking her again for Color Theory.
She was very nice, but her class seemed like a waste of time to me. She gave us days off quite a bit, and we had so many days of just "brainstorming," which equated to the entire class trying not to fall asleep as we doodled in notebooks. Not worth the money paid for this class.
You can grow a lot from one of her design classes. She really emphasizes making mistakes and really will not let you absolutely fail. She may give some tough feedback and expect extremely high quality, but it is definitely worth taking her.
Do you like to write? Then this is the class for you! You are forced to keep a blog and write something about every project. If you want to pass, that means a full essay per project. The blog is 40% of your grade and is checked at midterms and finals. Beyond that, the projects are simple but methodical. Pay attention to craftsmanship. Overall, fun.
I took her for Color theory and she was the best!! If you know nothing about color (and believe me, you might not know much) you'll definitely learn. She makes you understand the process before you get to the final projects. Her grading criteria is very clear and if you follow as she says you'll be fine. I'd totally take her again. Best professor!
Expect to keep a journal blog and write about every single project and brainstorm you do in class. Scad blog system is buggy, fun professor to talk to, very friendly until Hell Week where she gets a little more strict in class to push us to do even better work. She makes you come up with literally hundreds of ideas for one project, be prepared.
Her class was the 1st class I took at SCAD. She'll constantly push you out of your comfort zone to do your best work. If you aren't the greatest at time management(like me), then you'll probably pull some all nighters for the projects. Especially the final project. If you keep up with the blog it's an easy 40% added to your grade. Super nice lady
I thought this class was pretty easy, especially compared to other classes that complained about their assignments. During the Savannah Film Festival, we got to go to movies instead of class to write about them on our blogs. Oh yeah - expect a TON of blogging. This made up the majority of the course load. Overall, I liked her, she was so sweet!
This class was amazing. She gives a lot of freedom on assignments and isn't super strict with the directions. She wants you to play around and learn. Her critique's in class help a ton. Watch craftsmanship because she grades a lot on that.
Ms. Waldvogel is very sweet, but she doesn't give hand outs. Her projects are fun, and they make you think. She gives puzzles, she won't give you the answer but will ask questions to get you there. We didn't have a midterm, we used everything on the material list she asked for, and our final was a vocab test. She also gives helpful feedback.
She's perfect and inperational. She always gives helpful feedback and she even gives extra credits!
Shocked to see that she doesn't have higher ratings bc she is the best teacher I've had in my life! Treats students like equals & gives clear instructions that are easy to understand. If there is any confusion she clears it up because she cares about helping her students. Assigns fun projects that make u exercise your creative muscles. Learned ALOT
I had absolutely no problems with this professor. It was an easy class, i didn't even have to try and the final test took me all of 15 minutes.
She is awesome. Easy class. She is the sweetest person ever!!!!
I really enjoyed color theory with Prof Waldvogel. Her projects are fun and she gives you a lot of creative freedom. She lets you out early a lot too which is nice. If you have any questions or if you cannot make it to class one day you can text her and she will reply within the hour. I would 100% take her again.
Waldvogel is a total sweetheart. She cares about her students and their progress. You don't have to be an excellent visual artist for her to pass you or even care about you. She just cares about your progress.
She has quite of bit of painting to do outside of class, and in class is mostly used painting. It's not horrible and it helps you learn. She lets you choose the topics of your projects mainly. She's sweet and understanding.
Love her sooooo much! so down to earth and fun and easygoing! Allows so much creative freedom and helps you dive into the science of why you want to design something! basically arts and crafts for college students! Most of my assignments were star wars themed and it was all good!
Her classes require your dedication like any other class. Assignments are very interesting and free of exploration. She is an amazing teacher, does her best to be clear in her explanations and has your best interest at heart.
Mrs. Waldvogel was a great professor! She is really understanding of her student's situations, and she can be flexible in emergencies. I really enjoyed the creative freedom in her assignments. I would love to have her again.
It was really a pleasure to work with this professor. She's very patient and really wants each student to find what works for them. I never felt like I couldn't complete an assignment in this class, either. The workload was manageable and she was eager to help us out.
She doesnt really actually TEACH. Youll learn by doing the same thing over, and over, and over again. Shell talk for about 5 minutes but youre pretty much in your own.
Waldvogel is such a sweet and humble professor. Everyday was such an inviting experience. She DEFINITELY has a passion for color and the application of color. The projects were super fun we arent even done with the class and Im excited for the next project! Gouache is a pain, however. Her intentions for gouache are respected, however.
This studio class being online made it extremely difficult to keep up and understand what was going on. The directions were written in long paragraphs and it was very easy to overlook and confuse some instructions. Although this professor tried to make herself available, it did feel as if I were in this class alone and hoping for the best.
I enjoyed all of Professor Waldvogel's projects, however, painting with acrylagouache is a nightmare, and incredibly expensive to keep up with. Once you get out of the "foundations" of color theory, there is freedom of media. Only issue is there was barely any heads up from project to project. No structured syllabus like many of my classes.
AMAZING! I absolutely loved Prof. Waldvogel. She was very sweet and caring, and genuinely a wonderful person to get to know. She taught very well and her projects were all very fun and pretty open-ended as far as medium and subject matter.
She's very nice and her projects were really fun. We only had to work with gouache for a few weeks and then we were given the liberty to work with any media we'd like. She's not a tough grader and I did enjoy going to this class. She does require you to buy the text book but don't do it. I never read it and learned everything in class.
She is super cool professor and she gives really good feedback, you will learn a lot in her color theory class. Her projects are really fun to do
Professor Waldvogel is such a fantastic professor. She will always be very transparent about what you need to improve in your work and is more than willing to help you and answer any questions you ask. She's a super nice person and sets reasonable deadlines with a managable workload. Great class!
A very easy professor. Seems like she doesn't really know what she's doing, but that makes her way easier compared to other color theory professors.
Super sweet professor. She's clear with what she wants from her students and she assigns very fun yet informative projects. She did recommend reading the textbook, but honestly it isn't completely necessary.
Professor Waldvogel was great! she was helpful with critiquing, although she grades a little bit hard with mostly craftsmanship. Little to no homework, most of the non-project related work is simple and is done in the first few weeks. great experience and lovely personality.
This was my favorite class first quarter. Professor Waldvogel is super sweet and makes class a lot of fun. Very laid back and cares about her students. She's easy to get in touch with for questions and makes sure you understand project criteria. She will give you feedback on your work whenever you need and makes sure her student succeed.
I had Professor for my first design class in the first quarter of 2020 but I have heard since then she has became a tough grader. When I had her she was very helpful and generally lenient with deadlines and "perfection" of work. When got to the last project I did get marked off because I didn't feel like the instructions were clear enough.
Professor Waldvogel is such an amazing professor, I had her for Color Theory and it was one of my favorite classes ever. She gives really good, in depth feedback and is easily accessible outside of class for extra help.
Prof. Waldvogel is a pretty good choice for color theory. She's very knowledgeable on the subjects and her projects are pretty fun and interesting. The painting is a pain and there's a LOT of it at the start of class, but after that she opens up media choices. Can be passive-aggressive and she is a tough grader on craftsmanship though.
She is good, I really liked her. She can be really mean sometimes and just act like a mom but overall good feedback and good class.
Professor Waldvogel is one of the best professors Ive had on campus. As a non-visual art major, she is very lenient on drawing/painting abilities and just wants to make sure that you understand the assignment and try your best! Actually cared about the students well being outside of class too. Very caring when I got Covid.
Prof. Waldvogel is the laziest teacher Ive ever had. Shed sit at her desk staring at us while playing a pre recorded video of her teaching us. Do not take her if you actually want to learn about color theory!!
Professor Waldvogel is a nice woman who gives very fun projects. It was an easy class overall and we were allowed to use digital as our medium for most projects. I am terrible at painting but she never gave me anything below an A. There are 5 main projects and nothing extra. Super easy class and she always answers your questions!
If you can take a class with Professor Waldvogel, do it!! She truly wants her students to succeed and is flexible and understanding.
Professor tends to treat classes as if we were in high school by making certain parts of a project take 2.5 hours when it takes 30 minutes for it even to be homework outside of class. Professor Waldvogel also has pre recorded lectures that she MAKES you look at don't try to look away or at your computer or she will call you out.
The projects for class were easily understandable, and a portion of the class time was spent beginning the projects and able to ask questions and receive feedback before we left. Her feedback was normally balanced with positive and critique, and always tried to get us to engage with each other and color.
Professor Waldvogel is a very good professor. She genuinely wants you to understand the material and get something out of the class. As one who doesn't have experience in this, the class was not a struggle for me. She understands that every one works on a different level (which is something not all SCAD professor seem to comprehend).
Knowing what other people went through in their color theory classes, she is the best choice for this required credit. She makes what is typically an extremely tedious and annoying credit a really fun and rewarding experience! She gives great feedback and if you work hard to improve, you will definitely get an A.
If you have 20 minutes of focus when the professor is explaining a project, it will be really chill class with interesting projects. One thing that you should be aware of is you'll need some money for the required materials about 150 bucks, and you might want to have an iPad to do your work da igitally later to make your life easier.
Very caring and understanding Professor, creates an easy environment to learn in. Assignments are easy enough.
Great professor! Spends twentyish minutes explaining projects and the rest of class time is given to work. Very chill class. Allows for a lot of creativity on assignments.
Loved her! Total of 4 projects (color explorations, pattern project, bezold effect, and physocological self-portrait). She does a great job of setting clear expectations by making a PowerPoint of exactly what each project is and what she wants. She also has student examples for every single portion of the class.
Professor Waldvogel was a great color theory professor. She was sweet, laid back, and very helpful. I was really grateful to have her when I saw my peers painting color swatches for 5 weeks and I was already done with 2 fun and engaging projects. Best color theory professor around as far as I know!
I loved Professor Waldvogel! I already knew a lot about color but I still learned a lot, especially about painting. The first 4 assignments are mixing gouache which is hard if you struggle with color and painting but she grades easy and you'll get better in class! Also you can do any medium including digital for two assignments which was great!
Theres 4 hw and 4 projects. they aren't too bad, fun projects but the course is alot of geometric things. Shes easy to talk to out of class and cares about you. Her lectures/teaching you how to do things is fun as she lets you try it with her along the way. Would definitly take her again.
I loved Professor Waldvogel! She made the class super fun and simple, her goal is to make things as least stressful as possible and makes herself easily available outside of class by giving out her phone number in case you have questions that can't wait. Shes super kind and gives great constructive criticism on projects and makes sure you feel safe.
Loved her! The projects weren't super exciting but I got at least one portfolio piece out of it! Super accessible outside of class and wants her students to succeed. There are only in-prog critiques so there's a bit of pressure to present something decent on time, but the projects weren't too taxing. Plays Pheobe bridges and keeps the room cold!!
Clear Expectations. Color theory can be challenging at first but you learn a lot! You also don't need to be the best artist to succeed in this class. Just do your best, ask questions, and follow guidelines.
Ashley Waldvogel is one of the kindest and most approachable professors I've ever had. She's very understanding and she gets right to the point in lectures. The homework was never challenging but I feel I still learned a lot! I had no problems with her, she was very resourceful and had a good balance of professionalism and being laid back.
Professor Waldvogel is great! Projects are fun and creative, homework is light, and I genuinely learned a good bit. I wish the material was more high brow, like having to do color swatches all the time starts to feel boring and simple, but she gives you space to really explore in the projects. Plays good music in class and is easy to talk to!
I LOVE Professor Waldvogel! We did a few weeks of swatches and jumped straight into projects, which I appreciated! Lets you have a lot of creative freedom and the work wasn't too overwhelming. Amazing feedback, plays great music in class, and overall just a kind and wholesome soul! I benefitted so much from her class!
Prof.Waldvogel was an amazing zoom teacher. She always came with a positive attitude and was supper sweet to her students. Her assignments did require effort but just the right amount of work. She was great at giving feedback and always answered her emails. If you put in effort you will get an A.
I was so lucky to have her as my professor in the fall, great introduction to SCAD. She's very clear on what she wants, and also allows the class to have fun and explore many different topics through their assignments. I met a lot of amazing peers within that class, and the homework never felt like too much. Wonderful professor!
I was terrified coming into color theory, I can't really draw or paint so I thought I would struggle in this class. Prof. Ashley, is super helpful and gives good feedback. She did not tell me my projects were awful and give me a bad grade, instead she encouraged me to make changes to my work.
Professor Waldvogel is super nice and will answer any question you have. She understands that not everyone is a design genius and give really great feedback. Answers emails pretty quickly too. She made class very enjoyable and I would take more classes with her in the future.
This professor is very kind and does her best to help provide feedback to students. She wants students to do their best in this class, even if you have no drawing experience. She is accessible and will help in whatever way that she can for you to succeed in her class! The work is tough but she makes learning about color theory fun!
Honestly I did not like this class and dreaded coming in each day. The course itself was pretty boring and I was lost for weeks on what we were learning. The professor for visual design systems was honestly pretty rude and discouraging to me during critiques. I did not feel welcome and thought it was unprofessional how she treated me at times.
I love Professor Waldvogel! Her class was really enjoyable and she even tried two new projects which were awesome, there was a good amount of creative freedom. Just make sure to follow all instructions in the process books, it's crucial to getting a good grade. She is great with communication and I highly recommend, I hope I have her again!
Took this profs DSGN 100 course. She's AMAZING. Her class feels like you're just doing arts and crafts and playing the entire time. She's really nice! She'll take time to come over and you help individually. Don't need to come in being amazing at art and design (cause I sure wasn't). Just DO THE WORK, and you'll literally have fun and be fine!
She was really nice and caring, but can be passive aggressive at times. You start off by doing color swatches and then jump into projects. You have a lot of creative freedom when doing the projects, and you don't have to be the best artist to pass, just understand what she wants with color.
Prof. Ashley is an amazing color theory teacher. Her projects are fun and creative, and she gives clear instructions. Attendance is mandatory, but the workload is manageable. I found unstuck study super helpful for study prep.
I actually enjoyed going to her class during the fall. She found a way to make Design enjoyable and always had a positive attitude each day of class. She's also understanding about most things and the workload wasn't too bad either. Overall an amazing teacher to start off my freshman year with!
TDLR: -Caring/Inspirational -Clear on what is expected/needed/required -Creative freedom -Good/clear critique -If you can't draw don't worry -Holbein paint needed -Projects are fun -Ok homework -Wants to ensure you succeed
She gives confusing instruction. For one class she told us to turn in the work a certain way so we did. The next class she told us something other way and we had already done the first way. She took points off for turning it in wrong, but would not change the grade when we remind her she had told us the first way to do it. This is only 1 example.
She is such a sweet heart and an amazing foundational class teacher
